Selecting a tank in random, she picked it up and headed over to a spot somewhere close to Junia. "Hey." Etta smiled at her before setting the tank down and plopping down on the grass. She observed the toad for a moment or two. "It looks rather adorable, doesn't it?"

"Hey there." The third year smiled at Etta, glad for the Hufflepuff's company. They were becoming quite the class buddies, had she noticed? Junia approved. "They do, but looks can be deceiving. I fear mine might be a bit defiant." She nodded solemnly and turned her attention back to her small toad, expression thoughtful.

Sort of. He was trying NOT to be late and SPRINTING down from the castle because he had GOOFED and sat in the Transfiguration classroom for a solid 15 minutes before remembering the change of location. OOPS!

"HIPROFESS-SS-SOR!" he chirped as he grabbed a tank and flopped down on a mat next to an older Slytherin who was whispering sweet nothings to her toad. "OH NEAT! Mine's-s-s a Natterjack! What's yours-s?"

Standing up again to peer into his tank and take his toad out, Derf was completely HELPLESS to the tank flying through the air after being summon by a Gryffindor and TWACK...smacked riiiiiiiiiiight in the head and down went the Hufflepuff with an unceremonious YELP.

A Natterjack? Junia glanced from her toad to the younger boy and raised her eyebrows. "You mean your toad is a Natterjack? Interesting name. I'm not really sure what mine is. I'm not an expert or any-OH!" OH MERLIN!

The Slytherin squeaked and flailed and moved closer to the younger boy, just to make sure he wasn't dead or anything. That happened sometimes at this school, did he know? He seemed alive enough, though. Plus the professor had witnessed the unfortunate turn of events, so she was off the hook. Mostly. She definitely hadn't caused it, so that was a plus.

Err...

What was the question again?

Oh. Yeah. She had no idea what they'd get up to, but she really hoped she wouldn't be turning into a toad.

"Is there any way we can transfigure the toad into an ice pack for the kid here?" Because okay, still feeling a bit bad for him. Did Etta see that?

"Defiant?" Etta repeated, slightly amused. She turned to look at her toad, tilting her head a little to the side. "Hmm.. Mine seems to look quite comfortable. I wonder what we are going to be doing, though.."

O_O Derf! What on earth, even?

She quickly moved a little closer to him, making sure that he was okay. Okay, phew. The relief that had washed all over her face turned into one of annoyance, thinking he needed a stern talk talking to, one of these days. So reckless. Even IF it wasn't technically his fault but still.

"We can try a healing spell. An Episkey, maybe?" She replied to Junia before turning to look at Derf. WAS HE OKAY? Talk, Derf.

Also, the professor's question.

Etta wasn't sure why they had to guess. But she was bad at guessing.. and even if she did, it was the wrong answer most of the time. So what was the point? Um. "I don't know, professor." She simply said, raising a hand.

ChanceCoeur 03-24-2017 12:30 AM

What were they going to do with the toads in the jars?? Noelle looked over at Olly and scooted over closer to him with her jar. She gave him a weak smile before turning back to Professor Stewart. Transfiguring a toad would have been the obvious guess but they were wearing comfortable clothing plus clothing that they could get dirty... that seemed too easy.

"My guess would be transfiguring the frogs. But that seems too easy." She said with half a grin. What else could it be though?

Shanners 03-24-2017 01:57 AM

Rooney was very taken by his toad right now and wondered why he had never wanted to have one for his school pet. They didn't seem to be as much trouble as Pomegranate was. Maybe he'd have to switch out the cat for a toad next year. That was...if he decided to come back next year. There was an offer that he would be stupid to turn down for the second time, but honestly...his mother was insisting he stayed in education.

He raised his hand. "Well, Professor, we're outside. You're either sick of seeing us wearing ties, or we're going to be dealing with water and dirt and getting filthy." Or she was going to throw something over them. He wasn't sure which he preferred.

Holmesian Feline 03-24-2017 03:53 AM

Yeah, she was certainly curious about all that Professor Stewart had mentioned, her gaze falling to the tank before her and the toad within. Likely said toad wasn’t going to remain a toad for the entirety of the lesson was Cass’s first thought to the questions, the clothes part being rather obvious as well. “Because we’re likely going to be doing something messy, perhaps in the lake, and need to move around more easily than we might be able to in our uniforms.” Skirts weren’t really conducive to active activities.

Especially messy ones.

"And the toads...the toads are our transfiguration medium." What the would be transfiguring. Not unlike a rat into a water goblet.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 03-24-2017 04:03 AM

Sure, they were apparently going to be getting dirty during the lesson, but Rula still wanted to sit on a mat instead of the grass today, so that's what she was doing. And she was also leaving her toad in its tank for now. She wasn't afraid of or grossed out by them or anything, but why should she touch one when she didn't have to yet?

And now the lesson was starting! And...what was a good guess for what they might be doing today? Hmm...

Rula looked around, eyes on the lake and then turning to each student as they spoke, trying to figure out her own guess. Finally, she raised a hand. "Maybe we're going to transfigure the toads and the tanks into a small boat? So we can go out on the lake?" Probably not, now that she thought about it, because that didn't sound like something that would be messy. But oh well, just a guess!

Suziella 03-24-2017 04:24 AM

Juno crinkled her nose up in a grin at the new nickname...she actually really liked it. Jun Bug! It was just so cute! But before she could blink class was being started so she turned her attention to the professor....no matter how badly she wanted to stare at Leon instead.

Juno listened to everyone's ideas. They all sounded like fun and very possible activities that they could be doing. Juno raised her hand and when called on replied, "Well,
working with toads isn't particularly easy. I am sure we are going to get messy and dirty and we will be moving around a lot...especially if our toads get loose. So it is better that we are wearing comfortable clothes that we don't mind getting dirty than our school robes that really need to stay neat and tidy."

Yep. That was her answer. No idea what they were going to be doing with the toads though...

"Good afternoon everyone! With the weather warming up and the sun out shinning today I thought today would be the perfect day to get outside and have some fun." Nothing was better then fresh air and sunshine while learning expect maybe having a bit of fun while doing it.

"I bet you're all rather curious about what we're doing today so I won't waste to much time with getting things moving along. Why do you all think I asked you to wear comfortable clothing and things you wouldn't mind getting dirty? What might we be doing with the toads?" This was a very open question leaving room for guesses of all types. She was simply curious as to what they thought they might be doing.

OOC: The students are welcome to answer one or both questions! This is the time for their imaginations to explore the possible options on what they might be doing today! I'll be moving on again in about 24 hours!

***SMALL NOTE! Also I just realized in this post that I made an error when I posted the lesson on the noticeboards... Not only should they all be wearing comfortable clothing but clothing they don't mind getting dirty! You may edit your first post if you like or just add that bit into your next post or even act like your kid forgot! It's completely up to you! I'm really sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused.

You know what Charlotte liked? Toads. Getting dirty. Being outside. MAGIC.

All of these things were present and accounted for, so she was pretty well happy about being in class (or technically OUT of class) today.

Her toad she kept in its little tank because honestly, she didn't want to freak it out or start it secreting anything out of fear or self-preservation. It didn't need any unnecessary human contact - especially since she wasn't sure exactly what she would be expected to do to it today.

Char looked around and noticed the four large tanks, wondering what they were to do with anything. So far anything she could come up with didn't seem relevant to those tanks that was for sure.

She put her hand up.

"Are we learning to conjure something that the toads will eat so that we can coax them into one of those four tanks, maybe one is there for each house, by leaving a trail of things toads like?" With the winning house being the one that gets the most toads in the tank?

Well, at least she was trying to work the tanks into her answer.

sweetpinkpixie 03-24-2017 12:21 PM

Ow...ow ow ow oooooooow....

Rubning the back of his head Derf glanced around and heard the voice of the Gryffindor who had summoned the tank say something. An apology he assumed...but his ears were ringing a little too much to reeeeeally know for sure. And yes pretty Slytherin girl, he was alive. Thank you for the concern.

Oh hello Etta HI!

"I'M OKAY!" he assured everyone, including the professor. Although going to see the Healer may not be SO bad since the man had DOGS and he could maybe play with the dogs while holding an ice pack to the back of his head..but there were TOADS here and, no offense fury friends, this Hufflepuff preferred their company.

But now came a topic that...Derf had feared. Using creatures as a medium for magic...and he already did NOT like it. He was not very skilled with a wand so what happened if he...you know...made his toad go KABOOM?! HE WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO LIVE WITH HIMSELF!

So he was going to protest if that was the case. Yup.

"Oh! I like Charlotte's-s-s ans-s-swer!" he chirped in response to the question, still rubbing the back of his head and feeling the bump forming there. "Can we do that?!"

"That's a good guess but not what we'll be doing today," Cami smiled. That would make for a good lesson sometime though.

James couldn't help but gave a small exasperated sigh before quietly moved himself under the shade of a tree. Yes...finally he could see much better now. Eh, toads? Interesting. What were they going to do with them? He shrugged. He had no idea. It wasn't like they expecting a prince or a princess suddenly appearing in front of their eyes once they kissed the ugly toads, right? Ridiculous.

Yes, she saw you moving to stand beneath a tree James. Just so he was at the lesson, with the group and not causing trouble she had no problem with him sitting in the shade.

He wanted to lay down, but that probably wouldn't be acceptably. Instead he sat quietly, running his hands over the grass and looking down at his caged toad. They were probably going to be transfiguring the toads, considering this was a transfiguration class. After a moment Olly decided to name his toad Alfred. He wasn't sure exactly why, but it felt like a fitting name.

Why were they going to get dirty? What were they going to do with the toads? Olly had absolutely no idea. Why were they supposed to guess what they were doing in class before they actually did it? He heard someone suggest they might be turning the toads into tadpoles, but that didn't seem like something that would get them dirty. "Are we transfiguring ourselves into toads?" Probably not because that sounded very very hard, but it was sort of an amusing thought.

Transfigure themselves into toads? Camilla smiled but shook her head. "Not today but that would be rather amusing, wouldn't it?" An entire class transformed into toads hopping around outside.

She chewed her lip as the other's spoke not really sure what to say for an answer. Her brain wasn't working as sharply as she would have liked, but she was blaming the NEWTs on top of everything else.

Finally raising her hand she quietly spoke, "Could we be transfiguring it into furniture?"

"Very interesting guess but that is not what we'll be doing today." Toad skinned furniture. Very interesting indeed.

They were going to be getting dirty, but what did that have to do with toads? The only thing he could think of that was dirty that you could do on a nice, spring day was gardening...

He raised his hand. "Um, transfiguring the toads into gardening tools?" he suggested. That sounded even stupider when he said it aloud...

Gardening tools? Another creative and out of the box guess. This was why she enjoyed open ended questions, allowing the students free range of their thoughts for a bit. "As useful as that would be we won't be needing gardening tools for this lesson," she smiled at him.

And he stretched out on his mat a bit, leaning back as he glanced up at the professor when she started class.

Oh... no offense, professor, but he didn't really want to play a guessing game. Not when there was really nothing to go on. Obviously, they'd be transfiguring their toads into something as this was Transfiguration class, but it could be literally anything. There weren't any clues that he saw, so he didn't want to just make a random guess. Instead, he occupied himself by peering into the tank he had chosen at the pudgy little toad inside, wondering just what a transfiguration experience was like for animals.

Another silent student didn't at all bother her. Maybe he would give the next question a try.

He turned his attention to the Professor as she started class and started to ask questions.. hmm why has she asked them to wear comfortable clothes that they could get dirty.. It was obvious they were transforming the toads into something..

But what?

He listened to the responses.. furniture? Really? He shook his head and thought for a moment before raising his hand. "Because whatever we are doing requires us to have full range of movement and since we are near the lake.. we could be getting muddy.." That was all his brain had for the moment..

Professor Stewart nodded her head at this. "There is a very good chance you'll all be moving around quite a bit in a few minutes as well as getting muddy." So yes, good guess Leon.

She actually really didn't have a clue what they would be doing. But she could try and give a good guess anyway. The blonde thought for a few minutes before she raised her hand into the air. "Could we be doing something near the water? So we might get wet?" Which would mean they could get dirty.

"Another good guess! There is a good chance you will be getting wet as well." Just not from the lake.

"WHAAAT?" He yelled all the way from where he was, more for the sake of being loud, noisy and possibly obnoxious than because he wanted to hear the lesson.

He didn't care THAT much about lessons, really. Especially if they revolved around the lake.

The brunette professor let out a breath her eyes focusing on Matt and how far back he was away from everyone else. "If you are having trouble hearing my lesson, Mr Meriwether, perhaps it would be in your best interest to move closer," she called out to him. That was the one and only time she would suggest it. If he didn't hear what was happening during the rest of the lesson that would be his problem.

"Professor... He looks like our neighbour Bertie." Something about the eyes, ya know? "Is it him? I mean- Are they people? Are we turning them back into people?" In all honesty, he liked Bertie better as a toad than a human but he didn't voice this out loud just in case it really WAS him.

What?! His neighbor Bertie? Camilla couldn't help but grin at this interesting answer. "I can most certainly assure you that the toad you have there, Mr Lewis is not your neighbor or any other person. That was a very good guess though."

Seeing as to how he got up and appeared steady Professor Stewart kept an eye on him for a few moments. He was talking and not falling back over which were good signs. The fact that he was answering her question was enough to say he didn't need the healer either, however he was rubbing his head. "Mr Ashburry-Hawthorne, would you like an ice pack for your head?" That was most important. Second, "We will be needing those four much larger tanks." Something nearly everyone else had missed or wasn't thinking about.

As each student gave their guess of what the lesson might have in store for them everything appeared on the board beside her. All it took was a wave of her wand for this to happen. The students didn't need to write any of this down just yet but she wanted them all to be able to see what each other had said.

"Amazing answers everyone! I would like you all to focus on a few details for me though before we get to our first little task of the lesson. Mud. Water. Those things make our little toad friends slippery. Not to mention they can jump all over the place. If our toads got loose and were hopping all about we would need to get a hold of them which might not be so easy here outside where it's an open area." She paused taking a moment to let them all think about that before continuing.

Was anyone catching on yet? "Rather then trying to catch them with your hands it would be much easier to capture them in a small cage. Which is what we will be learning right now. It's fairly simple and easy to do. The incantation is Incarcolvo and the wand movement is just a jab of your wand at whatever it is you're aiming to catch. If done correctly a mesh-like net will burst from your wand tip and around your target. On contact with the ground the netting will transform into a proper cage which you can easily pick up carry." Did that make sense?

Professor Stewart waved her wand on the board making the words appear..

Quote:

Incarcolvo - Cage making spell
Wand Movement - A simple jab of the wand aimed at the target
How it works - A mesh-like net emerges from the tip of the wand around the intended target. It then turns into a proper cage once making contact with the ground.
Just so that everyone got the proper understanding of it Cami knelt down and removed a toad from one of the left over tanks. She set the toad down and aimed her wand at it. "Incarcolvo!" she cast the netting bursting forth from the tip of her wand and around the toad just as he went to leap into the air. As the toad and netting hit the grass the netting changed into a perfect cage with the toad inside.

"For the next couple of minutes I would like you all to give it a try on your toad friends. Remember it's pronounced In-car-col-VO." She would be walking around in case anyone needed help.

OOC: Here's the mini activity! It's a fairly simple spell so the students shouldn't have much trouble with it. Feel free to have them mess it up or be unable to cast it though! Only one post is required for this but you may post more if you like! I will be moving on within 24 hours!

Mini activity!

Ohh so they were going to be making cages hmm? Well that made things a bit easier! Cause quite frankly, the seventh year wasn't looking forward to chasing down a toad in the mud..

He was a big guy.. toads were small and cages would make them better to handle!

The wand motion seemed pretty simple, just a simple jab at the target.. so he only practiced that a few times! Didn't need to go overboard on a simple things..

Next he tried out the Incantation itself.. "Incarcolvo, Incarcolvo..In-car-col-VO, In-car-col-VO!" He rolled the word around on his tongue, making sure he got it correct..

Now it was time to put them together.

He closed his eyes for a moment, centering himself before opening them and then jabbing his wand at his toad and saying "Incarcolvo! "

Sure enough... a netting shot out from his wand and encapsulated his toad, turning into a small perfect cage as it touched the ground..

Chinese Fireballs that was cool!

*catching up* x3

Oh oh oh oh oh he can use his own pet toad? "Quark is all that and would be cool with this Professor!" he replied excitedly and was already zooming back to the castle. He couldnt quite accio Quark to him unless he wants to drag the rest of his pets in that makeshift menagerie he created.

.... And finally he's back. Just in time for the Professor to start with the discussion. Honestly he wasnt quite sure what they were really using the toads for and as for the casual wear-- well heck he felt this is what they should wear everyday for school. So he stayed quiet for that question, besides Quark was getting excited seeing the Lake so close by now, and he had to make sure his toad wouldnt escape.

Ok time to do some spell practice "Incarcolvo....".

littledhampir 03-24-2017 08:43 PM

Olly understood the concept, but he had a lot of questions. He raised his hand before starting to practice. "Professor, how does the net know how big to be? If I tried to trap Noelle, for example, could it tell the size of what is being captured and be larger if it had to? Also, I was wondering how this is transfiguration?" It was probably pretty simple but Olly was just wondering at the moment. Didn't transfiguration involve changing one thing into another? This seemed more like just confusing something from nothing. Was that transfiguration too?

Okay he was ready to start practicing now. What was the incantation again? Incarcolvo? There were a lot of different sounds in it. Olly said it aloud a few times to make sure he could say it properly. He wanted to practice without the frog so Alfred wouldn't just hop away, but he realized he wasn't sure if that would work. Olly raised his hand again. "Will the net still make a cage even if we're not trying to capture anything?" It sort of related to his earlier question too. If it did work, how would it know how big too be if there was nothing to put inside it.

RachieRu 03-24-2017 09:34 PM

New spell alert! She was going to learn a new spell! That was amazing! Hattie loved the learn new spells. It was half the reason she was at school of course. There would be no point being at school if she didn't want to learn lesson. Obviously she was going to try and not get eaten by some monsters, but she was also pretty excited about learning new spells too. Hattie listened intently, wanting to get all the information she could. She didn't like failing too much, so wanted to make sure that she knew everything about the spell before she started trying to cast it.

First of all she practiced jabbing her wand in front of her, wanting to make sure that they got the wand movement right. That was the right thing to do. Because she wouldn't get the spell right if she didn't have the wand movement right. She spend a few minutes doing that, and that was good. She was pretty confident that she could do the wand movement. Now onto the incantation.

She spent the next few minutes repeating the incantation. "Incarcolvo" She said, and then repeated it a few times. It felt a little weird in her mouth, but after a few attempts she was pretty sure she could do the spell. Or at least that she was saying it right anyway. She repeated it a few more times, just to make sure that she was saying it right.

Hattie now stepped forward, and tried to put the incantation and the wand movement together. She spied her toad, jabbed her wand in it's direction, and then said "Incarcolvo" And nothing. "Oh." Well that sucked. She shook her head, composing herself. And repeated it, jabbing her wand a little hard.

And...

"Yaaay" It had worked. But now. How did she undo it? Surely it wasn't very nice to keep her toad in the netting. Maybe she should work on that now....

Bazinga 03-24-2017 09:58 PM

As she sat quietly and listened Natalia let her hand go down to the frog and touch it. She felt a bit sorry for it all caged up like this, but she couldn't help but feel like the frog right now. She felt enclosed in a cage with people just staring. Her mind went to other places she'd rather be and places with people that actually seemed to care and seemed to think she was doing a good job. She wondered what Joe was doing and Diar, then she started wondering what Roman was doing. She sighed and looked out at the grounds while the class continued.

Soon she heard the professor again and turned her eyes back on the woman as she spoke about what they were doing for the day. So they were going to put a cage around them. How appropriate it seemed. Moving her wand out of it's holster Natalia did the movement, "Incarcolvo"

Easy enough the net came out.

ChanceCoeur 03-25-2017 03:01 AM

Were they practicing on the toads now or just practicing the spell?? Because Olly made a good point. How did the net know which size to grow if they didn't have anything to catch? Maybe it was like the expandable tents she's seen at wizarding games. Looks small on the outside but once you get in, has lots of room.

Noelle was going to try it nonetheless. Pointing her wand at Olly first because he'd used the example of pointing her in a net. She gave him a teasing wink before turning her wand at her tank. "Incarcolvo" She said strongly and watched the net come from her wand.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 03-25-2017 04:25 AM

Her guess hadn't been right, but she'd expected that. Ah well.

They were moving onto the actual spell now! That was nice actually. Rula scribbled down the notes quickly, then pulled out her wand to practice.

"In-car-col-vo. In-car-col-vo. Incarcolvo." It was a little tricky at first, but once you got the hang of it, it wasn't too bad. She repeated it a few more times before she decided to move on to the actual casting. No need to focus on practicing the movement beforehand - a jab of the wand wasn't too hard, thankfully. The main difficulty was in the incantation and concentration parts.

She picked up her toad and set him gently on the ground. "Incarcolvo," she said, quickly jabbing her wand when the toad hopped forward.

Nothing appeared.

Rula had to repeat this a few more times, at first unsuccessful and then partially unsuccessful as a bit of rope came out of her wand but not in net form. Then she finally had to pause to grab the escaping toad and set him closer to her again.

"Stay, please." She eyed him, and he stared up at her...

Now! "Incarcolvo!" Jab!

The mesh net appeared, neatly capturing the toad, before turning into a cage. Yay!

Suziella 03-25-2017 04:43 AM

Oh, this could be fun! Making cages appear out of nothing was interesting that was for sure.

Juno took a deep breath and closed her eyes, as she usually did when practicing new spells. She took her wand and practiced the jabbing motion a few times. There were many spells that you had to jab with so this she didn't practice as much. When she felt she was ready, she set her wand in her lap, and began saying the incantation over and over again, "Incarcolvo, Incarcolvo, Incarcolvo, Incarcolvo, Incarcolvo." As she said it she moved her hand as if she was holding the wand. This helped her memorize the wand movement that belonged to the spell.

When she felt she was ready, she opened her eyes, and opened the lid to her toad's tank. With a quick jab of her wand, she said, "Incarcolvo!" A small netting instantly came out of her wand and trapped the little toad. She watched as the netting turned into a cage.

Magic was so cool.

This is a catch up post / sitting next to Rula.

Levi had been there the WHOLE time, ignoring his chosen toad (???) and looking like he was very much focused on the lesson at hand. In reality, however, he'd only been half listening as he just stared at Professor Stewart, who was looking particularly pretty today.

So. Business, as usual.

His one complaint was possibly that the woman had advised them to wear clothes they'd be okay getting dirty. Or rather, his one complaint was at himself for even listening as, presently, the boy was sporting the same beat up jeans he'd used for Professor Myer's vineyard field trip. Except that now, of course, the jeans were sporting permanent grape stains all over, which was just. Fabulous. Sarcasm implied.

As he slowly began to re-acquire some autonomy over his ability to actually focus in class, Levi became aware that his classmates were not only participating in class but also seemed to be practicing some kind of spell. Inca--what? He blinked, realizing he'd appropriated the mat next to the Slytherin girl from the library research whatever (he was trying not to think about that) whose name he'd either never learned or had forgotten. Typical.

The boy scratched his chin as he tried to be subtle about watching her work. And listening to how she said the spell. Then looked around to see the rest. Incarcolvo. So... a cage for the toads? Or, he supposed, potentially for anything. Maybe.

"Stay right where you are." He instructed quite sternly at his toad, wagging his index finger at it. Levi plucked it out, made a face at its skin texture against his palm. Miraculously, the toad did not move after Levi set it on the ground.

He jabbed his wand at it. "Incarcolvo!" The toad blinked, and Levi frowned. "I said--" He took a deep breath, once again jabbing the wand at it, "Incarcolvo!" It worked, right as the toad became bored enough and seemed ready to make a run for it.

"Professor Stewart," Levi called, raising his hand (and wand) and watching the toad just in case the spell decided to stop working. He'd run after it if he had to. He actually had some questions. Or rather, one question. For now. "Does the spell only work on animals or can it be used on human beings, too?"

This was the time when Camilla always walked around. Up and down the rows of students or well in this case she did more of a zig-zag motion through the grass depending on where someone was sat. "Very nicely done, Mr Kenendy." She smiled nodding her approval before moving on.

To say Cami was surprised with the speed that Tenacius moved with in getting his toad from his dorm would have been an understatement. The boy was gone and back in a matter of just a few quick minutes and hardly missed a thing. This earned him a very approving nod and smile. It wasn't a problem that he didn't answer the question as he probably needed to catch his breath but she was happy to see him working on the spell now.

Oh, questions! The Transfiguration professor came to a stop near Olly as she walked around. "Very very good questions in which I will do my best to give you straight answers for." The best she could anyhow. Transfiguration was a tough subject to understand and explain at times due to all the different branches of the subject. "The size of the net has to do with your focus and intent as well as what you are capturing. Since this is only a toad the net doesn't need to be very large but say you did try to capture Miss Summers...which I don't recommend,"she laughed softly before continuing, "If the intent, focus and strength was there the net would grow around her to height. However this is best used on smaller animals or objects." She hoped that made some sense to him as for his next question that was more complicated. "It's a simpler form of transformation and conjuration. While you aren't entirely doing the transforming yourself the intent is there and takes place once the creature is captured." There was a lot involved with Transfiguration. She would let him continue to work on the spell now and carry on checking on the rest of the students.

Or rather, one question. For now. "Does the spell only work on animals or can it be used on human beings, too?"

Levi didn't appear to thrilled with having to pick up his toad. That was alright by her, not everyone liked toads but he wasn't complaining and he was seemingly working on the spell. So yes, props to him for this. She watched him give a go at the spell getting it on the second try. She smiled and nodded in approval opening her mouth to compliment his work when he asked her a question. The same on Oliver had asked earlier. Camilla directed her reply not only to him but everyone this time. "The spell is intended for mostly animals typically those small in nature. Those that are more advanced in the subject or have incredible strength and focus could use this on much larger animals or human beings. It is also very much possible to create a cage with a door so that you don't have to cancel the spell or wait for it to wear off."

After making another round through the grass to see how everyone was doing Professor Stewart returned to the front. "Amazing job everyone! To remove the cage all you have to do is cast a simple 'Finite'. Or you can wait for the spell to wear off." It was really that easy. "Go ahead and do that now if you like or you may leave your toad in the cage for now."

"Before we move onto our main activity there's something missing. We need more toads." Hint hint. Professor Stewart looked at all her students before her. "Who can tell me how we can fix this problem? What transfiguration spell can we use to create more toads?" She was sure that most of the could already. "Tell me the name of the spell, what it does and if you like go ahead and give it a try on your toad." Yep, another mini activity before the real activity. Only this activity was attached to questions they all should know the answer too. There was a small smirk playing across the professors face indicating that she was asking this particular question for a good reason.

OOC: Here we go guys! So there's a few questions here along with a small activity. You can have the kids answer the questions and try out the spell or just have them answer the questions or do the spell itself! It's up to you. Those that do the spell can fail, can make more then one copy  or whatever else you like! I'll be moving on again in about 24ish hours! :D

TeafortheSoul 03-25-2017 03:16 PM

Wait, did the professor mean the doubling charm? Maybe! Char put her hand up. "Geminio? Or the doubling charm. Though, some of the copied toads probably wouldn't last very long... or even like.... work very well. Depending if people know the charm or not yet." And honestly.... she wasn't so sure she'd be able to do that good of a job at it. Like she knew the charm and could cast it and everything, but what if half way through the activity the copied toad just disappeared or something?

Oh and she had better actually practice this cage thing. Phew. Got a bit sidetracked by her toad there.

TakemetotheBurrow 03-25-2017 03:18 PM

catching up! <3

Junia was still mildly concerned about the small Hufflepuff, mostly because she was fairly certain he was friends with Abey and Abey would be crushed if a friend were to get hurt badly. The thought of a crushed Abey just didn't sit well with her, you know? "If you start feeling dizzy or nauseous, let me know. I'll go with you to the healer." See? She was being helpful. "Also, aim away from me if you think you'll throw up." ...Mostly helpful, anyway. She'd done that when she'd hit her head during a duel and it had been gross.

...

The spell they'd be using seemed easy enough and the Slytherin figured her toad would cooperate now that it wasn't going to be transformed into something. "See, this will actually be fun for you. You get to be free." If only for a moment. Really depended on how good she was at this making a net thing.

"Incarcolvo...Incarcolvo...In-car-col-vo...Incarcolvo." Mouthful, that was. Yikes. She said it fast, she said it slow, she said it while clapping out the syllables. She wanted to be comfortable with the way it rolled off her tongue before moving on and eventually, she was.

Letting her toad free, the brunette trained her wand and said clearly, "Incarcolvo!" Ugh, not fast enough. "Work with me here, okay? Please?" The toad was still moving, probably as fast and as far from her as possible. They really didn't seem to be a good match. "Incarcolvo!" ...Merlin. "Toad, I said, Incarcolvo!" HAH! Got him!

The thirteen year old skipped over to the little cage and peered inside, a smile in place. That was--

Oh, they were moving on.

...

More toads? Junia eyed her own for a moment, wondering if having more of him around would be wise. Hm... "I was thinking of the doubling charm, too. Just like Charlotte said." Wasn't that spell rather tricky and couldn't you make lots of copies or just one, depending on what you wanted?

Okay, so Brent still hadn't caught a toad, which wasn't a good thing seeing as the rest of the lesson apparently replied on him having one. He had the incantation and wand movement down pat. He just needed to get close enough to a toad to actually have a chance.

Brent scurried around until he finally came upon a loose toad that hadn't been caught. "Incarcolvo!" he shouted at it, giving a jab of his wand. It hopped away, causing the fourth year to hurry after it. He caught up with it quickly and gave another jab of his wand. "Incarcolvo!" he said again.

This time, it worked.

The mesh-like net burst from his wand and closed itself around the toad. When Brent spotted the little cage, he picked it up. So...about that next question. "I'm thinking Geminio, too," he said, raising his hand. So was that what he needed to cast now?

Noelle got a praise from Professor Stewart and smiled. But she was also taking notes on what she said to Olly. So it could be used for larger items. Or people... or things. Hmmmm....

Noelle looked up from her notes to listen to what Professor Stewart was saying about doubling the frogs. Charlotte was the first to answer. Yep. That would have been the spell that Noelle went with too.

Others were answering too. Noelle nodded at their answers because they were the same as Charlottes. Instead of following suit, Noelle just nodded and kept quiet.

Ah…conjuring.

They would be conjuring spells, cages, around their little amphibian friends. Cassie had to admit she was grateful for the professor planning ahead and making it easier to catch the toads in the cage’s grasps. She’d had more than enough experience in trying to catch toads or frogs to know they would have had a much harder time practicing the spell. After several minutes of trying out the spell, the Ravenclaw had finally managed to catch the toad in the new cage within the tank. And then she waited…waited until she was aware of how to reverse it.

Finite…nice and simple.

Then she didn’t have to wait to move on or try again. “Finite,” she cast, the cage fading away and her toad friend free to hop around again. As for the issue about needing more toads…Cass had to think on the spell options. The doubling charm or Gemino curse others were saying made sense but wasn’t it considered more dark magic?
