Default The Trophy Room

In this spacious room, the trophy room houses the various trophies earned by students over the centuries. From plaques with the names of Student House Leaders from the last century along with House Quidditch Cup & Gobstones Champions. Along with those who earned the prestigious Special Services to the school. All the trophies displayed have been kept in special encasing to prevent further dust from ruining them. Feel free to admire the displays, but do not touch or you may find yourself stuck to them with no choice but to clean them until all evidence of fingerprints have been removed.

Actually, nice didn't really cut it. He had a tendency to be extra flirty with her but she wasn't about to say that to his face. Nope. She probably would have before but now things were different.

Maybe it was because she was older. More mature, one could say.

But probably wouldn't.

When he asked about the letter, she quickly glanced down at it before shrugging. "A letter from home." She was still over by the display and he was still by the door, showing no signs of wanting to approach her. He was probably going somewhere or something. "I sort of wanted to read it here." It might be a bit odd but she wasn't really bothered by that. Infact, she was pretty sure that Matt wouldn't find that odd, at all. She paused for a second, watching him closely, before finally giving in. "Are you ... just gonna stand there?"

Yeah, he definitely had places to go.
Matt had to bite his lip to stop himself from chuckling at Daisy rolling her eyes at his answer. At her next comment, he shrugged. "I can't help it. You're really nice yourself." He said genuinely. She was! And nice people should be treated nicely.

Especially if the nice person happened to be Daisy. Y'know. Duh.

"And in case you haven't realised, I do like you." What? They had gone on a DATE! Of course she knew that already. Didn't she?? ...If not, she knew now, lol.

Speaking of that, he should totally invite her on another date. He'd do it soon. Now they were talking about a letter she had received from home.

Aha! He knew it. He had nothing to worry about. Boom!

The Gryffindor looked around, trying to figure out what was so special about that place that made her want to go there to read the letter. He gave her a funny look. "Okay...?" Matt chuckled. What an oddball.

He liked oddballs.

Was he... just going to stand there? Wha? "Why? Do you want me to... do something?" The fifteen year-old was suddenly confused. Was he missing something? WHAT? Was that a trick? What was that supposed to MEAN?

He did take a few steps forward into the room, though, because HEYO, no way was he just going to stand there after what she said. Even if it HAD been a trick, Matt was okay with falling for it. As long as he was NOT just standing there.

Wot.

"Quite right." Daisy shot a wink Matt's way and chuckled. Agreeing with him felt quite weird, maybe because she wasn't wired to be an arrogant, annoying person, but she did feel like she was nice. Not 'better than anyone else, deserves a Nobel Prize' nice but still. "Maybe they should give me an award, after all." Teasing, just teasing. Her eyes moved towards the names of the former Quidditch Captains and she wrinkled her nose unconsciously.

That would probably be the only way for her to get her name in this room, but alas, Quidditch was no more.

Which was so much more annoying than the fact she didn't get awards.

She stopped suddenly and turned back to him. Had he...? Right, well, she had known that. Suspected that, whatever. They had been on a date, which had been hilarious and SO MUCH FUN. Now, though, he had actually come out and said it which made her stomach twist into funny little knots. What did he meaaaaan??? What did any of this mean? She busied herself carefully pocketing her letter, trying to gather her thoughts but once she looked back up at him, she wasn't sure of what to say. "Well. I like you too." Was what she eventually managed to say, trying to make it sound as nonchalant as possible.

It was true. She did like him, she just didn't understand just what that meant.

~FEELINGS~ were terrible things.

Thankfully, Matt was still Matt, and true to himself he made her laugh. He hadn't really said anything in reply to her choice of location but his face had said everything. "I know, I know." It was weird. "But at least it's peaceful?" Well, usually it was pretty quiet. Not much to do, after all, which is why it was a PERFECT place for letter reading.

Again, the sound of her laughter filled the room and this time she actually clutched her side, slightly doubled over. Had the question been that weird? Honestly? He was adorably confused and she finally shook her head, amused. "I just meant ... I'm standing over here. You're by the door. Yet we were having a conversation." The laughter stopping, she looked at him and smiled softly. "Also, you could have stuff to do!" Clearly not, though, since he was coming in.

Merlin, were they weird.

The laughter stopping, she looked at him and smiled softly. "Also, you could have stuff to do!" Clearly not, though, since he was coming in.

Merlin, were they weird.

Matt laughed at her response. Some things she said reminded him of his cousin, and that was a very good thing! "They should! I'll have a word with the Headmistress." Lol.

He noticed her wrinkling her nose and his gaze went to where she was looking at. "What's that?" He wasn't hawk-eyed, but he could tell she was in the Quidditch awards session. Quidditch Captains? "Do you know these people?" She was into Quidditch, so maybe she knew all the people of Hogwarts Quidditch history too! That sounded mental as there were probably WAY TOO MANY names to be memorised, but he guessed it wouldn't be that big of a problem if she really loved the sport.

...

All the fourth year was able to do was chuckle. The fact she acknowledged she liked him too made him more aware of his own heartbeat, which he thought was very strange, and he could feel his face warming up a little. "Happy days!" He exclaimed happily. Was that such good news or WHAT?

The Trophy room was peaceful. "It is..." Matt said, looking around before looking back at Daisy. "Way too peaceful, if you ask me." BUT that was only his opinion and he was aware of that. "Why did you need peace and quite to read that letter? Is... everything okay?" Even Matt thought it was weird that he himself was asking those questions. Since when was he observant and sensible?

WHO HAD DONE THAT TO HIM?

Oh, right. Daisy, of course. He told himself he was still Matt SOLO, though, no matter how 'mature' he was getting.

Ahem.

LOL, oh THAT. Matt laughed as he sped up a little, making his way to where she was standing. "Well, you said the room was peaceful, so I thought that, you know, I should make it nice and loud by talking from the other side of it." Peace and quiet was no good, everybody knew that. He chuckled as he finally got close to where she was. He thought about her last comment for a second. "I do have stuff to do." And with that, he closed the gap between them and kissed her.

Pretty busy, wasn't he?

He'd what? Honestly, it was impossible for her not to laugh whenever he was around. She couldn't really be bothered to try and keep herself from laughing, but she was pretty sure it was impossible. "I'm pretty sure she's busy with the portal, y'know. Maybe just sent her a letter." Daisy was kidding here, alright? She briefly wondered if there was any need to specify that but ended up deciding against it. Matt wouldn't really talk to the Headmistress about her, would he?

Would he?

Her eyes moved to his Gryffindor tie and she wrinkled her nose. He might, actually.

"Errr ... some of them, yeah." She replied when he asked about the student leaders. Most she only knew by name, of course, but some were impossible not to know. Honestly, half of the Falmouth Falcons team when she had been younger was in there. "Some of them became professionals." She paused there for a second, watching him closely, before finally making a decision. They were .. friends. Friends who had been on a date, but yeah. Moving towards the Slytherin student leaders, Daisy turned to smile briefly at him and then nodded towards the Head Boys and Prefects area. "My parents are in there." No. That sounded weird. With a chuckle, she tried again. "I mean, their names. Are there." Let him try and guess their names. That would be funny.

Potentially hilarious, even, knowing Matt.

She would ignore the slight pink tinge his face had decided to gain for now; she was sure it was just mirroring hers, anyway. There were some things that she honestly rather not think about, so she was more than grateful when he changed the subject to the letter. "No! Everything is fine! It's just the rest of the birthday wishes." She rolled her eyes good-heartedly at that. Honestly, her birthday had been a week ago and she was still getting happy birthday letters from her family. The Cardens were ... intense for lack of a better word. As to why she needed peace and quiet... "It's not so much that. It's the room itself." Given that she had told him about her parents' names, it wouldn't be too difficult to put two and two together, right? Yeah, no need in explaining it again.

He seemed to have understood what she had meant and she chuckled even as she watched him walk closer to her. Make some noise, eh? "That does sound like you, actually." It sounded exactly like him, really. Things are quiet so let's make a mess. She grinned widely at him, all of her pearly whites on show, as he finally reached her. She was still thinking about how he probably had to go somewhere -- most likely another Gryffindor house party -- before she realised that he was getting closer. And then her lips were on hers.

!!!!!!!

So that was unexpected. Surprisingly, the first thought that crossed her mind was her friend Eddie kissing her in the playground when they were kids and how she ended up punching him. But this wasn't the same. She wasn't eight years old and she liked Matt -- however confusing those feelings might be . Curiously, she pressed her lips closer to his for a second before pulling away, cheeks burning.

Okaaaaaaaay. What was happening?

"So." She cleared her throat, suddenly incapable of looking at him. Nope, this felt weird. WEIIIRD. "Quite busy, then."

.....

What?

What?

"A howler might work better, actually." Matt said and the laughter he let out echoed through the entire Trophy Room. "Imagine that!" He managed to say while trying to catch his breath.

The boy could picture it in his head and it was HILARIOUS.

He'd definitely consider that. If not fo the award, then just for the lulz. HAHA! Amazing.

"Mhmm..." Matt nodded as if he knew what she was talking about. He didn't, really, because he was not THAT into Quidditch. Fun to watch and all, but only to a certain extend. Sometimes he got bored quicker than the game ended. But the next bit of info she let out was kind of interesting! And the extra line she added to the fact her parents were there made him laugh out loud again. "I know it's their names!" He cracked up. "I didn't know they played here in the school." He had heard they used to have Quidditch and stuff at Hogwarts, but that was backkkk in the day. Like, over a decade ago or something. His cousin Sophie was in school in the last few years they had Quidditch and she was ANCIENT!

Lol.

Birthday? "Is it your birthday today??" What day was that? Matt didn't have a clue. Monday, was it? March or April? Heck, he didn't know. Oh well. "Happy birthday! Or belated birthday? Or early birthday, maybe!" There, all bases covered. All good!

Matt also didn't really understand why the room was so special and why some peace loved peace and quiet, so he just shrugged. "If you say so." Alrighty then!

Once she pulled away from his kiss, he had a half smug, half cheeky smile on his face. He could see her face was pink and for some reason that amused him to no end. That fact made his own warm face go back to its normal colour a lot quicker.

She hadn't pushed him away or any terrible thing like that, so he was happy and a lot more at ease. Maybe a little too much. "Of course, I can't not see my girlfriend on her birthday!" Never mind he wasn't even sure that was her actual birthday. Matt would never get that right anyways.

Gryffindors.

Yes, Daisy was imagining that and she was currently shaking her head at Matt, even as the boy's laughter seemed to get hysterical. He probably wasn't even paying attention but Daisy widened at her eyes as her mind pictured the scene. The Headmistress in the staff table in the Great Hall, receiving a Howler from Matt yelling at her about Daisy and an award.

Oh no.

"Promise me you won't do that." Daisy said quite seriously. She had no trouble making a fool of herself but she'd rather not get in trouble over a silly offhand comment. Hawthorne definitely looked like someone who did not take a joke lightly. Still, he seemed really into the idea so she sighed. "I mean, send a Howler to the Headmistress if you want to, but don't get me involved." And as much as she tried to deny it, as long as it didn't involve her, it did sound pretty funny.

Was that selfish of her?

Right. Yes. Of course he knew it was just their names. Daisy grimaced a bit at that and let out a chuckle. How would he know her parents had played there, eh? She raised one eyebrow in his direction before nodding. "They did. Well, Dad more than Mum." Honestly, Daisy still didn't fully believe that her Mum had been part of the Quidditch team for a term. It made no sense. It wasn't that she was bad, it was just that she did not enjoy it. She turned back to Matt. "They were both Prefects. Slytherin." And if there was a hint of pride in her voice -- well, it was because she was proud.

Oh. Her birthday. Daisy chuckled lightly at the questions rolling out of Matt's mouth. At least he was being thorough. "No, not today." Not that he was late by many days, anyway. "Belated, but thank you anyway." She told him with a wide grin in his direction. After all, it was decidedly not his fault that he hadn't known her birthday.

What was his fault, though, was how confused she was at the moment, because without the kiss that would've not happened. She risked one peek at him from the corner of her eye but the grin on his lips made her feel slightly uneasy for some reason. Why had he done that? Here, of all places?? Frustrated at the fact that one of her favourites spots now had awkwardness written all over it, she turned her back on Matt and ran one hand through her hair. Should she run? Her mind went to Noelle and the story of her second kiss and Daisy could've almost laughed. Yes, maybe running away would work.

Except Matt spoke again and, without a second thought, Daisy turned around once more and found herself staring at him. Again. Girlfriend? "No. No, no, no ... I am not your girlfriend." See the enthusiasm with which she was shaking her head? Definitely not his girlfriend. Why did he think that? Was it because of the date? Nervously, she started looking down at her shoes, only so she wouldn't have to look at him. "And ... I think that was a mistake."

Sorry.

Her question made him laaauughh even more. "Do you think I'm THAT reckless?" HAHA! How hilarious! To be honest, Matt wouldn't really put that past him, but only in extreme circumstances. He did not want his wand broken and being kicked out of Hogwarts. No way was he ever going to live like his Muggle father, thanks! And to him sending the Headmistress a howler but not getting Daisy involved... "Maybe one day." He said with a grin. One could never know.

Oh boy, both her parents had been prefects! "Impressive! I don't reckon they got in too much trouble then." Matt said, but then he thought for a bit. Chewie was a prefect and he wasn't the type to necessarily keep away from trouble so... maybe being a prefect didn't always mean you were the perfect student. Though Chewie could totally be a teacher's pet! "Sounds like a lot of responsibility. No, thanks!" He added truthfully.

NOT her birthday. Noted. Not that he'd remember the actual date, but yeah. For that year, he was late. "I won't even bother asking the right day because I'll forget." He informed her. The only birthday he could ever remember was his own. And maybe Ollie's, but that was only because his little brother reminded the entire universe his birthday was coming up about a month prior to the date.

Anyhow, he should've seen it coming. He had to stop himself from sighing and rolling his eyes when Daisy turned around. Matt prouded himself in not being hurt easily, and truth be told, he wasn't too sure if he was hurt or simply annoyed. Why couldn't everrrrrryone be straightforward like him? Life would be so much easier.

A mistake? "Wha!?" How could she say that? Okay, reason here, Matt. REASON! "Daisy, we've been on a date and we had loads of fun, didn't we?" She couldn't deny that and he knew itttt for a fact! "Besides, I just told you I like you and you said you liked me too." Literally, just a few minutes prior to this conversation now. Surely her memory wasn't as bad as his? And even if it were, HE remembered it very well, alright, and he knew she did too! Again, she couldn't deny that. "But fine, fiiinnneeeeeee. I know I can be um..." What was the word he was looking for? "Blunt? Straight to the point?" Impulsive? A little irrational? A bit crazy? Yeah, all that, but STILL. "But doesn't that just make things more simple? I mean, we don't have to beat around the bush! We like each other, why don't you want to be my girlfriend?"

Wait, he hadn't even ASKED. Duh. "I mean, do you want to be my girlfriend?" There was the question then, if that was important to her?

?? Was that what she was expecting? Matt literally had absolutely no clue what she wanted to happen before they were official.

WHY COULDN'T LIFE BE AS EASY AS HE MADE IT TO BE? If it were up to Matt, everything would be super easy and everyone would know what the other person expected and it would all be wonderful and easy.

Sweet Merlin...

Was that a rhetorical question? "Yes!" She deadpanned, looking at him with one eyebrow raised upwards. Daisy had only known him for almost a term and yet she already knew that, given the right circumstances, he was perfectly capable of doing just that. The boy outGryffindor'd every single Gryffindor that had ever lived. She couldn't really help the small chuckle that escaped at his words. Look at him there, almost giddy at the thought of sending the Headmistress a Howler. Honestly, if that wasn't reckless, then someone give her a dictionary.

As for her parents, she thought on it for a little while before shrugging lightly. "Well, I don't think they would tell me even if they did get into trouble." It wouldn't be very parenty of them, would it? Maybe they had gotten into trouble, but she had no way of confirming or denying that. Still, Noelle was a Prefect and at times she was quite ... insane.

"Do you mean you don't know anyone's birthday?" She asked him, genuinely surprised. It was impossible to memorise the birthdays of everyone one knew, of course, but surely he could handle a few? Maybe he just didn't care. Daisy watched him with a smile and nodded to herself. Yes, he probably wouldn't care about something as trivial as that.

At that moment, however, she would rather try and memorise the birthdays of every single one of Hogwarts' students than be there. Matt suddenly had a whole lot to say and as soon as he mentioned the date, Daisy opened her mouth, ready to interrupt him. But he was still talking, loads, so she closed it again and listened, trying to keep her eyes on him and not on the floor. Her hands twitched nervously as he spoke and she unconsciously started gnawing on her lower lip. So. She had made a mess out of things, hadn't she?

Oh. She had really made a mess out of things.

"Okay, look. You're right." She finally started after he said his piece. "We went on a date and it was really fun." She wouldn't deny that, not that she could, anyway. He knew they had had fun. That bit was simple. She squeezed her eyes tightly shut for a second and massaged her temple as if that would relieve the headache that was forming. He wasn't wrong, she had said that, and that part was definitely on her. If she was completely honest with herself, for once, she would admit to knowing that saying ... what she had said ... was a mistake the moment she opened her mouth. "But I don't think we like each other the same way." She murmured, quietly. No. She had thought that; but now, after the kiss, she was pretty sure. "And I like that you're that straightforward! It cuts through a lot of unnecessary stuff." Honestly, before all this mess, she had believed herself to also be quite straightforward. Clearly, age was changing that.

Why did he keep asking that?? And mentioning that word???

Cursing under her breath, Daisy did look down at her feet then. Okay. He wanted her to be blunt and keep things simple, right? No beating around the bush. Right, she could do that. Looking back up at him, she straightened her shoulders and slowly started shaking her head. "No, I don't." Pretty straightforward, eh? "I thought maybe I would .. one day?? But then you kissed me and ...." She shrugged once more, not really knowing what to say. It felt normal and I do not have time for normal. That just sounded mean, however truthful it might be. It was true, though. She had OWLs coming up and then summer would kick in and it'd be a whirlwind of practices, games, workouts and family. And however trivial that all sounded, it wasn't for her and she refused to get distracted over something she wasn't wholeheartedly commited to. Another sigh. "I think we're better off as friends. We're good at that." Well, had been, because this was probably going to put a stop to that.

"I'm sorry."

Matt looked at her as she explained things and... he wasn't sure what to make of this. He frowned, as he thought she was losing it. Maybe she was just nervous because she wasn't expecting him to kiss her?

Or maybe all that rubbish that people said about girls being confusing was true after all. Yeah, that made sense.

One minute she said she liked him too, the other she was saying that it wasn't the same way he liked her. "How do you even know that??" He blurted, still not sure if he was feeling hurt or just plainly annoyed. Probably both.

Her comment about liking his being straightforward because that cut through a lot of unnecessary stuff was met with a head shake and his eyes rolling as he drifted his gaze to one of the trophy shelves. No, he wasn't really looking at the trophies. He bit his tongue before he could say 'it would've been much better if you could've done the same'.

The Gryffindor suddenly felt like he had wasted a lot of time. And effort, for that matter.

'I thought maybe I would .. one day?? But then you kissed me and ....'

WHAT? Wow. Not only was she literally crushing him with her words, she actually managed to fit that into it as well. So he was a bad kisser, then, was that it?

Hurt and annoyance suddenly started to grow into anger. 'Better off as friends, they were good at that.' And she was sorry. "Yeah, I'm sorry too." And with that, he turned around and left the Trophy Room without looking back.

Daisy hadn't been expecting him to be delighted at what she had said. It would probably hurt him a bit, but then he would be fine. Maybe sulk a day or two? Yeah, and then he'd realise that they truly were awesome friends and everything would go back to normal. Hopefully.

And then she wouldn't feel this guilty? Because she did feel guilty. Not for not liking him in the same way he liked her -- it wasn't like she could help that, after all -- but for having to say it. And for maybe stringing him along a little bit, fine. As she stopped talking, she watched him closely. He did seem a bit hurt at first, despite the fact that there was also something else there, but then something changed.

Daisy tilted her head. He looked angry. He looked pretty mad.

That she had not been expecting.

What he was apologising for, she had no idea, but it didn't feel like much of an apology to her and she frowned. So that was it? That was the deal? They had been friends until he had kissed her and since that hadn't worked, they clearly weren't friends anymore. Friends didn't storm off on other friends, did they? "Really nice.." She said to his retreating back, more as a way to get the last word than anything else. If he got to storm off, she got the last word!

Sort of.

She hung around the room for a while longer, giving Matt time to disappear and giving herself time to calm down. After a few minutes, and a few looks in the direction of her parents' names -- who CLEARLY never had to go through this -- she finally walked out of the room. She shouldn't even be here, anyway, and she would definitely get in trouble if she was found.
