"You don't have to do anything," Sam pointed out. "You'll pass your exams, studying or no." Ace them, well, that was a different question. But pass them? Dora had that easily under control. The girl could talk Mermish! And did extras potions with her Aunt Addy! And knew so many spells to set stuff on fire or blow it up that Sam had lost track. "And anyways, you can study in the morning, a few hours won't make any difference."

What was the saying, all work and no play...?

"Not studying is not an option, actually. To guarantee all O's I have to study. It's a comprehensive exam. There is always new material." And she wasn't taking anything less than O's. NOPE. She was going to figure out how to use Mermish and Gobbledegook to her advantage in the future and really needed all the options for employment as she could get. Gringott's would probably hire her, but she had no clue what she would do there other than speak to Goblins.

Ugh. The prospect of growing up was scary.

But as Sam spoke Dora slowed down. "My Mum got 8 OWLs. All passing. O's and E's. I have to do better. Taking time from studying is not really in my best interest right now. When you hit OWL year you'll understand." Not suggesting that the other girl didn't comprehend the importance... Just maybe it didn't seem like a big deal just yet.

"Anyway..." She was officially feeling awkward for no apparent reason. Meh.

Abey had heard it from some older kids in his common room that Gryffindors were something called 'resilient', which meant, actually, that they were good at 'bouncing back', which MEANT, that if Abey fell, he would probably bounce. He was learning all sorts of things at Hogwarts.

Anyways, Abey went ahead and climbed on up to join the boy, eventually perching there beside him in exactly the same manner. The mention of his accent actually had Abey breaking out into a grin, because yes! Yes! He had one of those! And he had THOUGHT that the other boy sounded like he wasn't from England, actually, but had not wanted to point it out just in case he had been wrong, because he didn't want to look stupid or anything.

"America!" Abey repeated. He had never been there, but of course he had heard of it. He didn't think there were many people that hadn't. "I'm from Egypt, I've lived there since I was born." And then, because he was so so so curious, and because the concept of transferring hadn't yet crossed his mind... "How come you go to Hogwarts if you're American?"

As he spoke, Abey swung his feet below. It was so so so SO much easier when someone else started off all the talking actually, otherwise he would end up fretting about saying something strange or bothering the person, but NOW he knew exACTLY the right topic, because the other boy had mentioned it first!

He would...bounce? Kane had some doubts about that, but he didn't want to freak the kid out and assure him that if he fell, bouncing was probably NOT how his body was going to react. "Well, try to avoid it regardless, yeah?" he chuckled, making more room for him. Despite his confidence, Kane didn't really feel like bringing his new acquaintance to the hospital wing so soon after meeting him.

"EGYPT?! That's awesome, man! Where in Egypt are you from? Like...the part with the pyramids?"
Kane asked, hoping once again he wasn't being too ignorant asking these questions. That was pretty much the extent of what he knew about Egypt - there were pyramids, the sphinx, and it was a desert. Mostly. He couldn't help it, though! THAT WAS SO COOL! He wondered if he lived somewhere where he could like, SEE the sphinx from his bedroom window and stuff.

"Oh, yeah...I transferred here because my dad got a job in the Ministry here as an ambassador or something. My older brother came over too," he explained. "I only went to Ilvermorny one year, though, so it's not that big of a change," he added. Unless his dad made them move AGAIN, this was pretty much going to still be HIS school, not Ilvermorny.

Seeeeee? Abey didn't fall. He was actually a pro at all this playground business. Except not really. But he was good at it. So he was a pro. Actually.

He BEAMED at the enthusiasm from the other boy, and almost started wiggling there where he was perched because it was good to talk about something he knew about AND have other people interested in it, and maybe he did wriggle and fidget just a bit, but only a bit, and not enough to fall off or anything.

"Egypt!" Abey repeated, that toothy grin of his on show. "I live in Alexandria which is right up at the top of Egypt, actually, by the sea. There's no pyramids there, but there is a lot of other historical things too apparently." Something about a lighthouse maybe. Abey had seen it plenty of times, but he had always been more fascinated by the things in the capital because that was the more famous things that everyone else seemed to know about, and he liked to know what other people knew about, because not knowing what other people knew made him feel very not-smart. "I've been to Cairo to see the pyramids lots of times though. And I'm going to be a Curse-Breaker when I'm older so I'm probably going to see them a million more times too."

Okay, so the Curse-Breaking thing was more of a pipe dream than an actual plan actually, because Abey still hadn't realised quite how much work was required, and especially work in subjects that he was not very good at at all. But a boy could DREAM.

"Ohhhhhh... so you're a second year?" Okay, so he was actually talking to a boy older than he realised. "That's cool! You get to compare schools and everything. Hogwarts is the first school I've been too ever ever ever. I almost had to go to Oog-... ug-... uaga-......... the school in Africa, but I actually got accepted here too and I chose here." Abey paused for a moment, and considered something. "Do you like Hogwarts as much as... as... Il-verr-more-knee?"

"That's awesome! I'm from Malibu in California, which is also close to the ocean. I miss the ocean SO much," Kane admitted with a sigh. There was nothing better than just going to the beach at sunset and just relaxing the stresses of the day away. They had the ocean HERE in England, of course, but it wasn't the same. Mostly because it was so COLD.

"A curse breaker? What do they do?" Kane asked. They must not have a bunch of those in America. If he had to guess...it sounded like a tomb raider sort of thing. There weren't many...well, ANY...old tombs in America, really. Being such a young country and all.

"I love it! I mean, Ilvermorny is cool and all and I really liked my old house, Pukwudgie, but Hogwarts is...cozier than Ilvermorny, if I had to describe it in one word," he explained with a grin, legs swinging back and forth over the edge as he spoke.

Abey nodded a lot a lot a LOT in agreement. He missed the ocean TOO, and the only thing they had here so close to Hogwarts which was anything like an ocean was the lake, which was cold and dark and APPARENTLY there was a giant squib named Bartholomew who lived in there. Abey didn't think he had ever met a squib before, but he was pretty sure they were just like regular people and couldn't breathe underwater either, AND he didn't know if gillyweed worked on squibs, so maybe that was actually a lie. The point WAS, the lake was nowhere near as inviting as a proper ocean actually.

And it was cold. Probably. So no thank you very much actually.

"Oh, they..." Uhhhh... um. Well. "Break curses, I think. It's things to do with runes. My Jadd-... my grandfather was one. That's why I want to be one." That all sort of hurt a little bit to say out loud actually, even though it had been way over a year since Jaddi had died. "I think runes can make curses so the people go in and break them... somehow."

Hmmmm. This Il-verr-more-knee sounded interesting, but maybe that was actually because Abey was a little bit curious about what it would be like to go to another school. NOT enough to actually go to one, Merlin no, but enough to think about it. "Are you going to stay at Hogwarts forever now? I think I am actually. Forever until I graduate, because by the time my older cousins graduate I'll have younger cousins here too." Sooooo Abey would ALWAYS have that security blanket here, which made him so so so so so happy.

Playground. Why did this school have a playground? It made no sense to Viktor. He did come here last year so why not see what's here now. Though at least he was not alone in this. Was that seriously a slide. Weren't most of the kids here too big for that unless it was magically enhanced or something. Probably.

So the ultimate question was what could he even do here that would not look awkward for a man his age to be doing

Serious Question.

Serious Question.

Out on a stroll to clear her head Laurel found herself walking over to the school's playground. Why Justin had built one was still a mystery. The students were past their years when they went on the slides and monkey bars weren't they? Unless of course they used the jungle gym to keep fit to please River?

Spotting a very familiar figure standing several feet away observing the playground as she did, Laurel smiled to herself and headed over to him. "Were you a sand castle builder or a slides boy in your youth Viktor?"

Maybe he should just leave and bother someone. It's a playground made for kids, not adults. Though you could use the monkey bars for workouts if you really wanted to. Oh, that voice sounds very familiar so guess he will be staying a bit longer.

He turned to greet Laurel with a smile and nod. Sand castles or slide. Well, he was neither.

"I like the monkey bars and walking on top of them. Dangerous but fun. What brings you down here Laurel?"

Did she want to make a sandcastle or something?

Would she become the hot gossip of the student grapevine if she when the weather got better, started to make regular trips outside to the kids playground to work out on the jungle gym? It was something to consider Laurel thought as Viktor acknowledged her presence with a smile and a nod that stirred a teeny tiny butterfly in her stomach.

Throwing a glance to the monkey bars she shook her head. "I never liked the monkey bars, when I was on them it always felt like I was going to fall down." Not a very nice feeling.

"I actually came out here to make a sand castle to try to make sense of some of my latest predictions. You are welcome to join me if you want?" And with that Laurel walked over to the sand box.

Well, that was part of the fun of being on them. The idea if you mess up you fall and have to try again. Though he could definitely see her as one who made sandcastles.

"Ooo, did i miss a prediction. I'll join if you tell me."

He started walking with her over to the sandbox.

"So magical sandcastle or doing this the old fashion way?"

Heights had never really been her thing unless she was sitting on a broom where she could hold on with both hands and legs. On monkey bars you had to rely only on your balance and hers wasn't exactly the best.

Looking sideways at Viktor she nodded as they walked next to each other over to the sandbox "Sort off. I make predictions every day, you know that, but there is one prediction that bugs me. If i tell you it, will you promise not to laugh?"

Entering the sandbox Laurel sat down, probably unladylike on the sand and beamed up at Viktor. "Doing it the old fashion way. I want to feel the sand under my fingers. It's soothing."

Genny was sitting on the swing idly nudging the ground with her foot. She wasn't here to play per se, but considering recent events she felt like she needed to cling to this side of her for a few more months.

Except she wasn't very enthusiastic about it, she had a pensive look on her face and her mind roaming far far away.

Amazing mood was amazing! And to make sure his streak was still going strong the young Slytherin marked it down on his calendar with a green check mark. So far, the board has more green than red X's. It's an amazing sight considering his summer and majority - if not all - of the first term consisted of red.

Red. Red. Red.

Red.

Taking advantage of a bit of free time he ran down to the grounds. There was too much energy stored in his body and he just needed to let it out. Arriving at the playground he went up the steps and down the slide. At the bottom, he glanced around, green eyes landing on the empty swing. He ran there, too. Instead of sitting on it like a proper person would, like the witch there had, Cornelius jumped, his feet landing swiftly on the swing seat. His body wobbled dangerously, fighting for balance.

"Woah--!" An expletive followed his exclamation. With the help of his hands gripping onto the chains tightly, Cornelius managed to keep upright.

What a rush.

It was a rare occasion to see Genny being thoughtful and quiet like this even if it was happening more than often this term. However, it seemed like the universe just opposed to this unusual series of occurrences because out of the blue, a boy came shooting towards the swing next to hers and jumped up to land his feet on the seat which, in retrospect, was a risky move that could've busted his head had he not regained balance (or not because cushioning spells).

The Gryffindor watched bemused, a small smile decorating her mouth because hell yeah that was something she would enjoy doing had she not been in one of those 'moods'. "Y'know, it would've been a lot more fun if we could swing it all the way around the pole." She interjected, hinting to a circular movement instead of this half-nailed rush. "Buuuut I don't think anyone would get away with it." Even with the cushioning charms, it needed ridiculous speed to achieve, might as well just hop on a broomstick and fly.

Needing a break, Noelle headed outside. It was still snowy and a little crisp outside, but she didn't mind. She needed to get out of the castle for a bit. She eyed the pathways but decided not to go down them alone. Especially since Carlton had been sucked away from there.

Instead, Noelle ventured to the playground and noted that someone was already there. She gave Kimi a smile. "[b]hey Kimi. How are you/{/b]"

"So are they like....tomb raiders, sort of?" Kane asked. He recalled stumbling upon a muggle video game that sounded like that...if the main character of the game was also a wizard. That's what he thought of when he thought of runes being cast with curses, at least. Or maybe he was totally off base. Runes were NOT Kane's thing. "That's awesome! I don't really get runes, to be honest. I try but...it all goes over my head," he explained with a shrug. Maybe someday he'd control his ADD enough to focus on ALL his classes, but right now...it was too hard to try and remember everything. He'd have to get that in check in time for OWLs, but that was also WAYS away...

"I think I am gonna stay here. At least, it sounds like the family is. Although at this point if they moved AGAIN, I think I'd just follow Brent wherever he goes. He's my older brother. Slytherin," he told him. "It's not so bad moving places if you know someone, right?" he asked with a smile. He thought the boy was thinking along the same lines since he mentioned his cousins and all...

That Viktor made the vow to not laugh gave Laurel the last boost of confidence to tell him what she had been seeing in her predictions. If he kept his word time would shortly tell. Watering her lips as she dug her fingers into the sand to start building on a castle, she said "The reappearing prediction that has been bugging my mind and dreams is that off something dark and sinister merging with our world."

How it connected to their hogwarts life she did not know yet. Laurel just knew that reappering predictions had a significance. She just had to figure out what.

Snort.

Well, talk about vague. Did that even count as a prediction? Though if it keeps coming up it has to mean something. Divination was not his strong suit so yeah.

"That sounds like something you would hear in a movie before the villain or monster invades. Still pretty vague, though"

Laurel knew Viktor had vowed not to but it warmed that he didn't and actually tried to take the prediction seriously. She knew that it wasn't his field at all even if Runes and Divination were connected in some ways.

Viktor tried to interpret the prediction best he could associating it with movies. In response Laurel murmured. "Most predictions are pretty vague until they come true or don't." She hoped they weren't part of a movie.

With the base of her sand castle done, Lauel aimed to start with a tower as Viktor joined her in the sandbox and stood hovering in front of her. "Are you going to sit down and help or are you going to stand and just watch me?"

Actually, he wasn't really being serious and was more poking fun at it with the movie thing. But he was fine with however it came across.

"Keeping it vague keeps the person who predicted it safe as well. Lovely system that is"

And look at her just get right down into the sand and immediately start making a sandcastle for merlin sake. No worries about her clothes or getting dirty or anything.

"Standing over you is pretty fun. Feels like I'm supervising. But I need a closer look."
And with that Viktor took out his wand and waved in at his clothes hoping no sand would get on them.

"You're the boss right now. Tell me what you want me to do"

Heh. It was funny that Kimi could tell with just one look that she looked exhausted. "DO I look that bad?" She asked pinching her cheeks to make herself look more awake.

"Im just nervous. All the crazy things that's been going on with that portal." She mentioned.. surely Kimi knew about it.

The boy had started to swing himself standing up. Gaining momentum and only stopping briefly at the suggestion that entered his ear and did not exit the other. Those were the type of suggestions that tended to stay in the Slytherin's head. The dangerous fun ones.

Green eyes looked up before falling on the instigator. Cornelius smirked.

"Has anyone even attempted to in the first place?" he responded. His mind working, the gears turning and twisting. "I bet there's a charm that can help with that. We could do it." He WANTED to do it now. Why hadn't he thought of that before?
