The Great Lake, also known as the Black Lake, is a large body of water located to the south of the castle. It is about half a mile in diameter and the Hogwarts plumbing network drains into it. Creatures have made it their home from Merpeople to Grindylows, with even Moaning Myrtle occasionally taking a swim. The most notable is Bartholomew Henry, the Giant Squid. While busy with his kin, it is not uncommon to spot him or possibly receive a helping hand should you slip in after enough callings.
Boats and life vests mainly reserved for the First year's entrance and Graduate's departure still sit by the dock. With Sir McLeod's permission you'll be permitted to use them for a lovely afternoon of sailing. There are also several trees by edge of the lake. A Beech tree in particular with a hollow hole inside is filled with books that have been left there over time. If you take one, be sure to replace one in exchange to keep the system alive.

Zoryn had SO much time on her hands. 'Cause she wasn't gonna do homework and classes were done for the day and she had already gotten so much exploring done. Life was GRAND.
Buuuuuuut Suzy was running out of food and Zoryn was a good inchworm owner so alas, here she was. Out by the lake to replenish the leaves. Of course the Gryffindor was extra picky about which ones she picked up. So far she was holding ONE worthy leaf, whilst bent over and examining another.
It had to have the right CRUNCH, the right consistency, just enough green and just enough sprinkle of yellow. She wanted them to be RIPE, but not TOO ripe 'cause they had to last for a few weeks y'know? And some leaves were already taken by other bugs and Zoryn wanted them to have their food too. So it was all about concentration.
This one was........................ decent.

See he knew he could get himself Outside if it wasn't class related. The bespectacled young badger was all bundled up for the fall weather and felt nice and cozy on his stroll along the grounds. It was nice walk too. The air was crisp and breathable which added some bounce to Simon's step. He hung onto his handbag's strap with one arm and stopped briefly to take in a view of the Black Lake.
The Lake looked almost like a sea. It was larger than any other lake he had ever seen. He could see the tree's rising up from the other end of the Lake but could not see the bank at the other end.
Then his eyes wandered a little further back and he spotted a familiar face. The Excitable Face-Hitting girl, Zoryn.
In a quick decision he moved closer to her and began waving to her with his free arm to get her attention. "Hi Zoryn." He called out to her and then stopped about a foot away from her his feet on top of some nice crisp leaves.
Well, at least the Head Boy seemed relaxed enough about the whole vomit thing. That was good - if her Mother found out that she somehow had managed to lose points by poisoning the Head Boy she would not be happy. Daisy smiled a bit apologetically up at him but that smile soon turned into a grin and all thoughts of those vomit-flavoured beans disappeared from her mind at the Quidditch talk. She nodded enthusiastically at everything he mentioned: the wind through the hair, YES, shoving people around, YES, scoring goals, YES. "There's nothing quite like it, is there? The freedom of flying and the speed of the game!" AAAH, how she missed it. "I'm a Chaser at heart but sometimes I also play as a Beater." She quite enjoyed playing as a Beater from time to time. It allowed her to release her frustration. From Colt's words she sort of assumed he was a Chaser aswell. "What about you? You sort of sounded like a Chaser there." She told him with a conspirational smile in his direction.
Yeah, she was a regular Sherlock Holmes.
He, however, clearly wasn't or he wouldn't think of her as Head Girl material. Daisy gigglesnorted at the older boy's words and shook her head with a laugh. "I really don't think so." You had to be smart to be Head Girl, surely! Maybe not exactly a bookworm because - well, of her Dad and apparently Colt but still, surely you had to be a bit smart. "Pretty sure it takes more than having a Head Boy for a Dad." Daisy frowned thoughtfully and looked over at the water. Well, she sort of had more than that, though. "Although my Mum was also a Prefect... Merlin, I hope that's not the criteria." She added as an afterthought. She really didn't want to be Head Girl. That sounded stressful and Daisy did not like stress. Speaking of which... "That sounds like good advice." She replied to his words about taking notes and paying attention in class. And being calm. "So that should be our plan for this year, then. Don't get too stressed." Although she supposed he probably would have a more stressful year than Daisy, with the responsibilities AND the NEWTs. "Are you sad to be leaving, then?" She looked at him with a raised eyebrow, paying half a mind to the thought that that was probably a very personal question for someone she had just met, but not really caring anyway.
"It wasn't really a challenge, you know?" She asked with a light laugh, blue eyes following closely as he tried another bean. It was a yellow one so hopefully he would get lucky. "It really was just an offer. But YAY for banana!" She clapped happily at that and held her hand high for a high five. No vomit, that was good! That, however, meant that there was a vomit flavoured bean waiting for her. EEK. Daisy randomly picked a bean from the box and held it close to her eyes for inspection. Oh no. She did not like that shade of brown. Here went nothing. She popped it whole into her mouth and started grimacing as soon as she started chewing. "Dirt..." She said through a grimace, but refusing to spit it out. She was nothing if not stubborn. Still, Colt's next words distracted her and she looked over at where he was pointing and saw the giant squid. "Do you think he really likes toast?"
"Nah there is nothing like quidditch. I mean if you talk about it with muggles, they think it is like american football where you tackle people and then scoring goals.." That is what he thought of it anyways whenever he explained to his friends back home. "Yeah even the atmosphere too. There is nothing like it when the whole school comes out and cheers ya on.." He wondered if other muggle schools did it. He knew his elementary school didn't. He was surprised when she mentioned being a beater. He didn't find her to be the one to be...oh what was it?....Aggressive? But looks can be deceiving. "You don't seem like a beater to me.." he spoke what was on his mind to her. "Yeah I am a chaser. I just love the thrill of scoring is all. Sometimes I can play seeker. I have lightning reflexes.." he smirked. Nah not really but he did have an eye for shiny things like the snitch.
He tilted his head when she downgraded herself. He thought she would be an awesome head girl. "Hey don't doubt yourself yet. Trust me I am not that smart. I am only street smart like I said before.." There was a difference. "Usually my common sense helps me being smart." There that's it. Common sense got him places. "Truee I mean none of my family members were head boy...well I mean unless you count my cousin Belle who was a hufflepuff prefect but I don't know if that counts?" I guess it did but Head Boy status was higher than that. "Was your mum a slytherin prefect too?" he was curious is all. His cousin was in a different house but none of his parents were prefects at hogwarts. "Yup that sounds like a good plan of action because think about it? What does stress do to ya? I mean thinking wise?" Let her answer this question. She was a smart cookie she could figure it out.
Now she hit him with a question he didn't really think about yet. Was he sad to be leaving yet? He pursed his lips and looked towards the lake. He had to takev in some really deep thought. "You know I don't know..I am just used to being a military brat and moving from place to place. I never really had a home. This place though it felt different. I actually will miss it here. That is weird for me to say..." he looked at her and then shook off the sentimental moment and grabbed a rock and went to skip it. When he got back, he chuckled and said, "I think you wanted to challenge the head boy. I know your motives.." he said jokingly. "Yeahh sure it was just on offer. You just wanted to high position is all.." he eyed her and then winked.
He saw Daisy chewing on the dirt and he laughed. She got another bad one. First Sardine and now Dirt? "Man you aren't having any luck are you?" He reached into the bertie botts box and then picked another bean. He examined it and then shrugged and popped it in. "Ergghh earwax.." he spit it out. "Alright I take it back. I am the unlucky one.." he tried to get rid of the taste in his mouth. He nodded answering his fellow slytherins question about the squid. "Oh yeah I think he likes toast. Come on let's go feed him.." He got his wand out and said, "Accio toast!" and it flew to his hand a few seconds later and he handed her some bread.

And that's when she saw it.
The most glorious leaf of all time.
As if the clouds had parted ways and a beautiful ray of glorious sunshine had illuminated this beautiful, little green-- "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Her most glorious leaf of all time, she saw the foot coming down!! She saw it happening!!! She made the dive for it!! She almost had it!!! She was right there!!!
She was...
Too late.
And lying right there on the ground in front of the culprit, with her hands outstretched and eyes on the beauty that he had just SQUISHED without a second thought. "How could you!?!?!?!?!?!?!?" She slowly lifted her head up, making eye contact with the evil leaf-squisher.
Who looked awfully familiar and very nerdy.
Whoever he was to her before he did this, that boy was gone. It was evil leaf squisher from now on. He brought it upon himself.

Simon, could not for the life of him figure out what the heck just happened here. His 'All Smiles' face relapsed into his typical confused and shocked face. As Zoryn dove down at his feet the boy tried to dodge her hands and fell backwards onto him bottom, landing on a few more leaves. he could hear their crunch under him. He was not going to enjoy picking at all the tiny remains of leaves stuck to his jacket.
He leaned up and still with his shocked look on his face and his glasses tilted slightly off the bridge of his nose. "H-how could I what?" What did he do? Why did Zoryn try to trip him up!?
D-Did he step on an animal!?
MERLIN PLEASE TELL HIM HE DIDN'T STEP ON AN ANIMAL!?

The older Slytherin was talking an awful lot now and Daisy leant back, supported her weight with her elbows as she listened to him. American football. Right. That was a sport, was it? "I don't really know much about it, but Muggles can get easily confused by magic." She said with a light shrug. "I suppose telling them you fly around in a piece of wood isn't the easiest of tasks." She looked at Colt and chuckled. Surely his friends thought he had lost his marbles. "You are not the first person to tell me that, you know?" She told him with a raised eyebrow, in regard to his comments about her playing as a Beater. Nobody ever believed she could throw some Bludgers around. "The last person to tell me that lost a tooth. Mum wasn't exactly pleased." More like incredibly irritated, actually. "I do prefer to play as a Chaser, though." He was right! There was nothing like scoring goals, getting that Quaffle to go through the hoop at that perfect angle. Now, however, was her turn to sound sceptic. "I really wouldn't have put you down as a Seeker. Even a part-time one!"
But still, it was impressive.
It sort of seemed to her like he had caught the wrong end of the stick when she talked about not thinking she was Head Girl material and Daisy sat back up, shaking her head at him. "It's not that I don't think I'm smart! I am smart."Ish. But anyway. "It just seems like too much hassle. I don't think I'd be good at that." Yeah, that made sense to her. Sure, she wasn't a bookworm but she was smart in her own way. She was just pretty bad at all the organisation and keeping up with responsibilities. Unless, of course, it was something she truly enjoyed. "You seem like a good Head Boy, though! Book smarts or street smarts, they are both important, right?" Yes they were. At least in Daisy's opinion. "They probably aren't looking at the offspring of former badged people to pick Head Boys and Girls. That would be a pretty silly way to choose student leaders." She told Colt with a light smile. His cousin had been an Hufflepuff? That was cool! "Yeah, Mum was a Slytherin too. Pretty sure the entire family was. So that didn't happen to your family?" She was genuinely curious. As far as she knew, all of her family had been in Slytherin. Except for her grandmother, probably. With a smile playing on her lips, she listened as he displayed his self-proclaimed street smarts and talked about stressing over exams. What did that do to you? "Well, obviously you're stressed so you end up over-worrying and then not doing anything that you should be doing. Also, you'd probably lose your hair." She replied seriously, one hand moving to tug at her long hair. Yes, Daisy liked her hair so no stressing over OWLs.
Forget street smarts, the Head Boy was wiiiiiise.
She probably shouldn't have asked him if he was going to miss Hogwarts, however, because his mood seemed to have changed and she watched him closely as he sat in silence, teeth tugging at her lower lip. Okay, she definitely needed to learn how to not ask personal questions. Then he was replying to her question and Daisy nodded silently. She had all these questions that she wanted to ask about him being a military kid - that was such a different lifestyle to hers - but just as she was beginning to formulate the questions, Colt stood up and went to skip a stone. Right. Okay. Clearly, Daisy had overstepped. She saw that he was smiling when he returned so she brightened up a bit and freely laughed at his comment. "Fine, yes, I wanted the higher ground over the Head Boy." She winked at him to show him she had been kidding and watched as he got another bean. Earwax. The poor guy. "I think you should probably try again another day." She laughed even as she got a bean for herself. Well, third time lucky, right? "I'm sorry about that question, by the way. I really had no place asking you that." Yes, she had blurted it out but she really felt guilty, okay? She did not like to make people sad. Anyway, bean now! "Oh! Blueberry! I should quit while I'm winning." And yes, that was exactly what she would do. No more Bertie Bott's beans for her, thank you very much.
Even because it looked like he had taken her comment about the toast too seriously.
"Wait, really?" They were going to feed toast to the giant squid? It seemed they were because the seventh year was now standing up and summoning some toast. Daisy blinked, watching as the toasted bread came towards him. Now that was something magic was good for. Summoning food. Standing up herself, the fifth year took the toast he was offering her and shook her head laughing. "We're gonna feed the squid!"

Just ... no one tell her brother about this okay?
Seriously though. Muggles always got confused by magic. She didn't know too much about american football? That was a disgrace. He shook his head and tsked her. "Such a shame. Well least you know Quidditch though." He will give her that. He snorted with her comment and said, "Yeah they give me weird looks. They are like you fly on a piece of wood? What is the fun of that? I am like heyy don't knock it till you try it.." Even though his friends will never try it. They got better things to do. "Really I am hardly surprised.." he said sarcastically. I mean her small petite frame just ya know, she just look like the bludger could take her out in like two seconds then she would be in the hospital in a fragile state. Probably her boyfriend didn't like to think that way. Oohoo was she threatening him? He raised two eyebrows now and he was impressed. "Oh really? Well if you are gonna punch my tooth you gotta run it by my girlfriend, she cares about my appearance.." he told her seriously but there was hint of humor in there. "Well then we gotta test our skills in the pitch then huh?" he challenge her and he pointed to the pitch somewhere on the grounds. Eehh that is why he was known as the reserve seeker. "They only use me if they need like a secret weapon or something." Hint. hint.
"See there ya go again. Doubting yourself." he pointed to her. "Where do you think that will get ya in life?" he asked her seriously. Come on, our headmistress will always tell us in her speeches to believe in ourselves. "I think if you put your mind to it, you can do anything.." Then he had a realization. Maybe that is why he was picked. The head of house saw that if he could put his potential to the right purpose he could do anything. He smirked a bit. He was now having a big ego with her comments about being told that he was a great head boy. "Aww shucks thanks.." he playfully punched her shoulder. "True there. Book smarts and street smarts sometimes go hand in hand. We all got a unique smart quirk that is for sure.." He was def seeing it with Daisy. He nodded and Daisy was right. They probably didn't go by lineage, they picked people who can prove themselves. Did that happen with his family? He actually didn't know too much about his family. "Well my cousins were hufflepuff, then my sister is Slytherin..." he said listing off. "My mother was a Gryffindor and my father was a muggle..soo...no I don't think it happened with my family but probably my cousins got me the position." He winked. He waved off her concerns. "Nahh you won't lose your hair. You will obvs keep it." No need to worry anxiety ridden girl it seems.
He liked Daisy shared the same sense of humor. That's for sure. "Yeah don't get used to it.." he replied when she told him about being on higher ground. "Yeah I'll say soo I will def test my luck tomorrow.." he went down to the lake and got the taste out of his mouth. Once he walked back up and felt content he heard her apology. That was totally out of left field. He was stunned and then replied, "Ermm really its okay. You were curious and I answered. If it wasn't too personal I wouldn't' have answered.." No harm done. "It help me think that's for sure.." he more muttered to himself. He rolled his eyes, "Fine you win.." and he stole the bertie beans box.
He looked at her like she had two heads. "Ermm yeah? Let's go feed him.." he motioned her on and went closer to the water. He held her piece of toast for her to take it. He used his piece though and chucked it into the water. He wanted to see it.

"Sorry for disappointing you." Daisy laughed and shook her head slightly. "I don't really know anything about any Muggle sport if that makes it better." It probably made it worse but what was a girl to do? The people in her life who knew the most about Muggles were her Mum and her grandmother and none of them cared much about sports, so she really couldn't be blamed for that. Honestly, had it not been for her Dad, she probably wouldn't know much about Quidditch either and that would be a disgrace. He was now talking about her punching him and she looked at him confused before the penny dropped. OH. Right. "I didn't punch him." She told him with a grimace. Honestly, it had been YEARS since she had punched someone! "He told me I wasn't a good Beater before a practise session. So I sent a Bludger his way during a match and he tried to stop it with his face!" She smirked. Honestly, it was hardly her fault! It was a match accident. Still, it had sort of been luck because Daisy truly wasn't that good of a Beater. But that was inconsequential. Ahem. "Oh, a challenge, Mr. Head Boy?" How fun! Daisy grinned widely at him, excited by the prospect of playing Quidditch again. She snorted at his 'secret weapon' comment and shook her head at him once more. "Still, when we play, we'll both be Chasers, right? It just seemed safer for anyone involved.
She didn't particularly fancy breaking his teeth and then having to deal with an angry girlfriend. Or detention for assaulting the Head Boy.
He sort of was deserving it right now and Daisy let out a little huff at his words. "I'm not doubting myself, honestly." She sort of understood his concern because she had made it sound like she was doubting herself and she definitely understood what he was saying but nope. Daisy Carden did not doubt herself. "I just don't think I'd want the extra work." Sure, she would deal with it if it came but naaah. She turned back to him and raised one eyebrow. "I mean, you seem pretty chill and everything but shouldn't you be telling me to go do my homework or something?" Wasn't that what Head Boys!Girls and Prefects did? She laughed again when he punched her shoulder and bumped her shoulder to his. "Alright, alright. Watch your head, Head Boy." He needed to watch his ego or he wouldn't be able to get into the Common Room anymore. "Wait, so Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff." She counted after him, raising one finger after each House. "Why are you discriminating on Ravenclaw, hm?" To be fair, she was pretty impressed that his family got three Houses. Sure, her family wasn't all the same but they did share some pretty specific characteristics.
Just like she had told him, he did seem pretty chill which was why he probably took her question so well - and then accepted her random apology just like that. She nodded gratefully at his words before embarrassingly squeaking when he stole her box of candy. THIEFFF!!! "Okay, okay. I know you said you'd try your luck tomorrow but I'll want that back." She crossed her arms for effect before grinning at him and peeking inside the box. "Actually most of that it's orange beans. Probably vomit. You can keep it." It was a gift! Hehe.
Aaaand they were feeding the Giant Squid. She watched him go and bent down to pull her socks back up to her knees before following him to the shore. "Are you meant to just throw it?" She asked him when she got to the water, hand reaching for the piece of bread he was offering her. This sort of felt like feeding the ducks and you weren't supposed to throw the bread too soon or it'd get too soggy! Who would want soggy bread, that's what her Dad always told her. Frowning throughfully, Daisy looked over at the Giant Squid before shaking her head. Nope, she would try a different approach. "HIIIII SQUIDDY SQUIIDDY SQUIIIID! WE HAVE FOOOOOOOD FOR YOUUUU!!"

THEY WERE IMPORTANT.
And now they were ruined. Just a little cheeky. Fallen behind. Around the rear.

This was fun.
It was a little disappointing but he will forgive her. I mean he could offer to teach her? But he did have far too much on his plate right now. His head boy duties and his NEWTS. Like so much for having free time. "Well you must know about one muggle sport?" Come on let's see if she paid attention in muggle studies. If she said any muggle sport like soccer or basketball she would be happy. Colt snorted with laughter at her explanation and agreed with her whole heartedly. "I mean those faces though....they are always in the wayy." he smirked and laughed some more. Oh man that made his day. "Yeah def a challenge. I mean I know you can take it since you like to face plant bludgers to people.." he smirked some more. "Oh no I was thinking you could be keeper and I could be chaser.." I mean she brought it up. Only fair.
Colt snorted and agreed. "Yeah I am not much of the type of person to do extra work. Clearly you can tell by my personality butt I guess my time has come. I just gotta prove myself.." He said more to himself. He laughed at her comment, "Hah...hah...yeah yeah well I know if I got scolded by a head boy to do my homework, I wouldn't do it. So not gonna do it to you. You will do it on your own time." There simple advice and he wasn't nagging too much. He wasn't necessarily discriminating against ravenclaw....but Daisy did bring up a good point. "It is just my family I guess don't really have strong ravenclaw traits.." Which seemed to be the consensus.
He shook his head, "Nahh you won't get it back. I mean I can trade ya for some...pepper imps or fizzing whisbees..?" Fair trade right. "Woah woah noo they are not all orange beans.." Are they? He had to check. He looked into the box and saw it was multi colored. He saw safe. PHEW! Yeah they were meant to just throw it. Well he thought. He saw her take off her shoes and roll up her socks. Why didn't he think of that. He walked back and took off his shoes and rolled his pants up and went closer to the water. It seemed like his bread sank and was soggy. Ahh well. He could get more.
He turned his head and saw Daisy do like a call for the squid. He snickered with laughter and thought it was interesting. He would never try it. He wondered if it was gonna work. "If that mating call or whatever you just did works....you can have the beans box back.." That was a trade.

"Weeeeell..." Daisy started in replied to his question, stretching her vowels and wrinkling her nose. "I know of football. And rugby. But I don't really know about them." Sure, she was mildly aware of both those sports since she had always lived in areas with a fair amount of Muggles. But could she tell you one rule or even a team? Well, Daisy thought that there was a football team in Madrid? Probably. There were both football and rugby teams in Falmouth but somehow she had never been to a match. Come Christmas, she would drag her Dad to a match! "I know, right? Faces are annoying. Also, easily breakable." As she had proved and Daisy grinned cheekily in his direction. Yeaah, he got what she was saying. She rolled her eyes good-naturedly at him when he claimed she liked to throw Bludgers at people's faces and shook her head. Clearly that one was going to stick. "Why do I have to be the keeper?" She asked him seriously, a frown appearing on her forehead. NUH HUH. She was TERRIBLE at it. "I think that in the interest of fairness we ought to take turns!" Yes, they would take turns because it was the fair thing to do.
Head Boy or no Head Boy, he would not force her to play Keeper. Nope.
"Exactly. You have to go out with a bang!" She told him with a chuckle, amused by the fact that he had actually admitted he didn't fancy the extra work either. Well, it was good to know that she wasn't the only one and that someone with pretty much the sense attitude towards work as her made it as Head Boy. Maybe she would get the badge one day, eh? Snort. Please, Lord, no. He had a point, though. If he did tell her to do her homework she would probably not do it just to annoy him. Or, she would do it, but it would take her aaaaages. "Well, your family probably just finds other values more important than intelligence..." She offered as a way of comment to his family's lack of Ravenclaw connection. Slytherin made perfect sense for the members of her family she knew about since they were all pretty ambitious. Not really in a mean-y, selfish way just more of a 'do your absolute best' kind of way.
Dazzle those Hogwarts professors, her Mum had said. Daisy tried, she really did. It just wasn't working that much.
It seemed like she wasn't getting the box of Bertie Botts beans back but he would swap her some candy for it so she shrugged her shoulders and offering him the box wordlessly. Give the old box, get the new candy. It seemed like a pretty fair trade for her. WOOT. Her little chant, however, didn't really seem to be working and the fifth year frowned at the water, arm dropping to her side. Colt was slightly laughing at her now and she punched him softly in the arm. "Don't laugh! It could work!" Granted, it probably won't but hey - what was life without a little experimentation? Had she not punched him already he definitely would've gotten punched now and the Slytherin girl shook her head at him with a chuckle. "I don't care if it does work, though. You keep that box and get me some Fizzing Whizzbees."
Kat couldn't believe that she was actually talking to and seeing the squid. She sat down next to Henry on the dock. "Its really him, huh?" She said with a excited laugh. She glanced over to see Henry pretty much zoned out for a moment. She giggled and snapped her fingers in front of the older boys face. Earth to Henry. She was completely unfazed that the squid was talking.
She took the squids tentacle. What a polite squid. Mama squid must be proud of her well mannered squid. "Just lovely, sir Bartholomew." His tentacle was kind of squishy. "I'm a fourth year and have been here since my first year." And she was finally seeing the giant squid. Wait until her brother found out that she got to see and talk to him. Yeah, take that Phillip.

Henry still kept his eyes focused on the squid. It was super cool that he finally not only got to catch a glimpse of him, but also got to sit and talk to him. He could hardly hear him where he was sitting though, so maybe he should swim out to where Oliver was.
He'd been around? Must've just missed him coincidentally then, because this was his first time seeing him up close. Or close enough. "I'm heading in!" He turned to Kat as he stood up, letting her know since she was sitting there with him. He pulled off his shirt and left his rolled up trousers on as he dove in. That would be close enough to swimming trunks, right?
Swimming out a little further over to where Olly and the Squid were, Henry reached for his outstretched tentacle to shake it too. That was so cool! "I'm a fifth year too," he said, after Oliver did. Yeah, OWL year, though that was the furthest thing from his mind. Unless Bartholomew would be on the exam? He didn't really think so though. He wondered if he had ever met his parents, since he thought his dad was only telling stories. Maybe the squid wouldn't remember though, if he had met thousands. "How long do giant squids live? Can I ask how old you are?" That wasn't rude, was it? Henry wasn't intending it to be, he was just really curious.

This was fun.
If Bartholomew could smiled he would have been doing so right about then. “You’re both still young ones then.’’ Bartholomew was referring to Katerina’s and Henry’s school year. He only saw them as older ones if they were a sixth or seventh year. “I’m curious as to how you’ve never seen me before. I sometimes sun myself out on the rocks and I do like to stop by for chats with students and professors.’’
Questions were posed to him when Henry swam closer. “We live many, many years.’’ Bartholomew spoke mysteriously. “I am many, many years old. I’ve been around here to see countless generations of Hogwartians, Master Henry. That can certainly give you an indication of my age.’’ Bartholomew could never remember the names of everyone he met but it was safe to say that he had met alot. Bartholomew splashed his tentacles about. He was enjoying the warm weather a little too much.
Hello! Who were these students? “Good day,’’ Bartholomew said in a polite tone to the two newcommers. “Food? I do love food. What have you got?’’

Camilla laughed softly. "Perhaps they just wanted a change in pace today, not everyone enjoys doing the same thing day after day." Herself included. A smile tugged at her lips as she watched Bonsai stretch and flop over purring contently at the rub to his head. "He says hello," she told the Healer with another laugh. Oh, he wanted to join her. Neatly stacking the parchments into a pile and setting them out of the way along with her grading quill she nodded at the blanket she was sat on. "Not at all. Have a seat." Some company would be very nice.
"How's things in the hospital wing? Not to busy yet?" The cold and flu season would be upon them soon enough. Poor Rose having already gotten sick not to long ago was more then likely just a tiny hint at those that would be finding themselves in need of River's care.
"They have been pulling me towards the Lake since we arrived. They are water babies, those two." he said looking out again towards where they were swimming, and sighed contentedly. "I suppose they miss the Brazilian life. It was always nature for us, and beaches in the summer time." And River did miss the warm weather. He liked the fact that he can wear light clothing for a change, and to be able to actually sweat out toxins from his skin was the most satisfying bit. However, it meant bathing more than three times in a day!
"Oh, thank you." River sat near Camilla, careful not to sit on the student's papers and whatnot. "I have attended to broken bones, broken nose, fractured wrist, leech attacks...you can say I have a pretty packed Hospital Wing right now." he said shaking his head in amusement. "I am still thankful that I haven't sent any patient to St. Mungo's." And the Quarantined Room safely locked away, thank Merlin.
"It's a lovely Saturday afternoon. Why are you working?" Shouldn't she be in Hogsmeade or something?

Water babies, hmm. Now that was certainly a cute way to describe the dogs. Camilla turned to watch the two pups play in the lake. "They're smart. Playing in the water is surely not only fun for them but gives them both exercise too." Unlike her cat who was just laying there on the blanket without a care in the world. Hearing that River was a nature lover as well caught her full attention and she shifted her gaze back onto him. "I prefer nature myself. Hiking, camping, river rafting," she told him with a fond smile. She really did miss her traveling days.
"You're welcome," Cami nodded her head taking note of the lack of room they both had now due to all the papers she had stacked about. As she listened to the Healer list some of the problems he'd attended to already she took the moment to begin quickly sorting the parchments into groups. "Leeches? Well that's certainly something you don't hear everyday." Even as odd as it was she knew not to ask more about it as a Healers work was confidential. "Thankfully," she agreed with a nod of her head. "It sounds like you have your hands full already." Never a dull moment it seemed.
"I was simply taking advantage of the beautiful afternoon to get a start on some grading. Nothing to much or that can't be finished later."

Smart?
"Oh, you mean me?" River grinned, and dismissed the idea again with his hand. "I'm kidding." he added with a chuckle. "They have a mind of their own, but still are big babies if you ask me." the man was still grateful that he took the chance to take care of them for good. They were wonderful companions, and made his solitude more bearable. Who said being a full time healer was fun, yeah? River hugged his knees close to his chest, and turned his head towards Camilla, "It's the best, isn't it? I don't know...I just...feel like I can breathe easier when I see nature," and too bad, they were taking it for granted. "You've gone to places then?"
River went back to look back at Roscoe and Bumi, and shook his head. "It certainly is unusual, however, when you've got two...or rather three poltergeists roaming about, leech attacks are quite common. It's a classic act, if I may say so." And...who again allowed this to happen? River could hear his older brother Ryden losing all of his diplomatic cool when word reached him. He had to talk to him in behalf of his nephew Jace for him to stay. "Yes, but this is nothing compared to my time in St. Mungo's. That place is pretty depressing." And it was one of the reasons why he left the institution, aside from the fact that the place didn't offer any greenery unlike Castelobruxo or Hogwarts.
River laughed as he turned to face Camilla. "That is still categorized as working, Camilla. Surely that can wait. Now this," he said gesturing to the view before them, "Cannot wait for anyone. Considering the bloody weather Scotland got." Truth. It was always, always raining in the motherland.

No. She hadn't meant him. She had meant Roscoe and Bumi but it was nice that he had a sense of humor. Camilla shook her head laughing softly, "Nope, I meant those sweet pups of yours...but I guess you might be a bit smart too." Pause. "I'm just teasing too. You have to be plenty smart to be a Healer."
That. River understood. He knew wht she had been trying to explain to people since she was young. "Exactly. I always felt more at home...at ease whenever I was out in nature," she agreed smiling warmly. "I have. I used to travel quite a lot however I've slowed down my travels when I began teaching." It was something she somewhat regretted at the time but she enjoyed teaching as well.
Camilla looked around the area where they were sat curious as to why not many students were taking advantage of the beautiful day. The mention of the poltergeists caused her to let out a small sigh. "Those three seem to cause quite the trouble around here and it's rather alarming I must add. I just hope someone doesn't end seriously injured because of their pranks." So far she hadn't been involved in anything dealing with those three but she had seen what they do. "I can't imagine the things you've must have witnessed there." Hospitals typically were depressing no matter the type of hospital.
"Is it now?," Cami laughed jokingly her brown eyes falling upon River once more. "Mm I would have to agree there which is why I put my 'work' away for later on. Some down time couldn't hurt at all." Relaxing here by the lake was always nice as was having someone to talk with.

The corner of River's eyes crinkled as he smiled and let out a laugh. "Oh you haven't met the rest of the Reeds. They are plenty smart." River wanted to ask if she'd noticed his nephew, but that would show some favoritism, yes? Now that kid was entirely different. Jace had the chance to grow up in an advanced environment, and to have Ryden as a father, he was bound to be a hardcore Ravenclaw like their ancestors. "To be honest, one would only need to be smart to get a foot in the door, the rest would have to depend on passion...and the ability to think on your feet." Because in his profession, lives are in danger if he didn't act with speed and utmost care.
In all honesty, River thought Peeves wouldn't get any more worse when he was still a student in Hogwarts, neither did Ryden, his older brother. "You should've seen the look on my brother's face when my nephew got a nasty head injury because of the poltergeists. I have never seen him so angry that my sister and I had to calm him down for days." And had to talk him out of pulling Jace from Hogwarts. Not that he will not do well in Mahoutokoro, but the fact that the boy already has established his place in his old alma mater, already meant so much for Jace's well-being. And speaking of well-being, St. Mungo's isn't really the place to stay if one wishes to have a healthy mind. "St. Mungo's made me tougher though. But...I can't stand the constricting energy that place has. I also felt that I could no longer grow in that facility." Or yeah, maybe it was just an excuse to get out of there.
River stretched his long legs out as Roscoe and Bumi got themselves out of the water, shaking off the water from their bodies, and started to jog towards him. As soon as the two were just a few feet away, River was quick to cast a drying charm on both of his babies. Bumi claimed a spot near him, and Roscoe went on to investigate Camilla by sniffing out her hair. "That's Roscoe...and this one is Bumi." River made the brief introduction, and started to pat the chocolate brown colored Newfoundland beside him. "This one's exhausted." Roscoe however was busy getting to know River's female companion.
The Healer glanced at Camilla's paper work, "And that down time, is now." he said as he looked at the Lake again, his eyes falling on the boats docked nearby. "I'm sure Justin wouldn't mind...how about we take the boat out on the lake, and tell me all about your travels?" River got up from where he sat, and offered his hand towards Camilla. "The boys can guard your papers." As if on cue, Bumi rose to his feet, then slumped on top of the professor's parchments. Roscoe then barked once, sat on the ground and swished his tail from side to side.

Roscoe then barked once, sat on the ground and swished his tail from side to side.
Camilla smiled softly joining in on the laughter. "I don't believe I have or maybe back when we attended here as students I might have." It all depended on what years they had been here. Being a Gryffindor she had known quite a few people. She did however know Jace from lessons and if that boy was anything to go by she'd have to agree that the family was indeed smart. "Well yes, of course but not everyone can think quickly on their feet in times of need," she replied.
"Is he alright? I can't say I blame your brother for getting upset about it, the students come here to learn and grow not be injured by unruly poltergeist." Honestly, she probably would have been the same way had she had a child attending here. A child's safety is always top priority. "Sometimes you need to do what's best for you in the moment. Taking a chance in a different place could be a great way to start over." Hmm, those words sure did sound familiar. Must've been something Kay had told her when she told her to apply for the Transfiguration professor.
Camilla smiled warmly as the dogs came wandering over towards them. It didn't bother her in the slightly that Roscoe was checking to see who she was. "Well hello there, Roscoe," she held her hand out in a light fist for him to sniff before giving him a light pat on the head. "Hello to you too, Bumi." Can't just say hello to one and not the other. Bonsai took notice and was up on his paws wandering over to check these dogs out. His steps were slow and he looked like he might flee should the dogs move to quickly towards him. "And here comes my guard to check things out for himself," she laughed nodding towards her cat.
"I suppose it is," Cami agreed following River's gaze towards the lake. Oh, well a boat ride wasn't at all on her list of activities for today but she was all about mixing things up and just going with the flow. "I don't see why it would be a problem. I can do that...but only if you agree to tell me about your travels in return?" Cami answered fairly, taking hold of River's hand as she got to her feet. A small laugh escaped her lips as she looked at Bumi laying on her parchments. "Perfect." Between the three pets her things would be safe here.

“I think it was best you haven’t, with the exception of my nephew of course. I am sure he is thoroughly enjoying his time in your class.” Jace was after all Ryden’s son. Ryden was naturally gifted in Transfiguration...but he’d beat him in Potions at any given time. “My brother, Ryden—Jace’s dad graduated in 2065. My sister Renee finished school two years after Ryden...so I am pretty sure you haven’t met any of the two.” And even if Cami did, she’d probably be horrified at how terrible his two siblings were during their youth. They were very smart and clever, and a bit of a snob. University changed them both however, and thankfully, they weren’t as arrogant as before. River remained the same to be honest...the prankster in him was still there, but perhaps time mellowed him down as well. They all had to grow up anyway. “I agree with you there. Not everyone can think quickly on their feet, but, with the right amount of experience, that skill can be gained.” Hours upon hours of scheduled duty in St. Mungo’s really made him fast and efficient. Although it was a taxing job, he found more reason to be outdoors keeping himself healthy so he could continue being the best.
As the both of them walked towards the dock, River waved a hand as he dismissed Cami’s question. “Oh, Ryden’s fine. My brother is a drama queen. A real one, if I may add.” He chuckled as he continued slowly towards one of the boats, “Don’t tell Jace, but he’s one of the reasons why I am here in Hogwarts. Castelobruxo wanted me back after attending to my father, but after what happened to Jace last term, I knew Ryden was going to oppose the idea of sending him back here.” River paused as he stuffed his hands inside his pockets, “Jace didn’t want to go back to Mahoutokoro even if it meant being closer to home. He wanted to finish what he started here, so I had to talk to Ryden about it...and assure him that I will keep an eye on his son.” River grinned as he tilted his head to the side in wonder. “And the rest was history.”
River went ahead to pull one of the boats on the shore so Camilla could hop in. “I have a lot of travel stories. This afternoon might not be enough.” The man gestured his companion to get on the boat, and fixed both of his hands on the hull, ready for the push.

"Your nephew is a delight, he's very into the lessons and always well focused," Cami told him with a warm smile. There was no favoritism at all when it came to any of her students as each and everyone of them had their own set of strengths and weaknesses. "Ah, well then chances are I didn't know him as I only started that year. If anything I'd have simply known of him or known him solely by name and face." As it was she had only been a first year at that time and then a third year when his sister was here. "It's a good ability to have." When a situation comes about there's not always time to sit around and think about the best way to handle it. Many times you have to think fast and do what comes naturally to you.
Walking alongside River towards the dock she listened to him describing his brother and couldn't help but laugh softly. "You can't exactly blame him for worrying about his sons well being though, everyone wants to ensure their child's safety while being here." Another small laugh. "Don't worry, your secret is safe with me." She wouldn't say a word to Jace about what she knew. "Lucky for them both then that you were able to become the Healer here then." She was sure Jace was happy that he got to remain in the school of his choice.
Camilla remained on shore until the boat was close enough and safe to get into. Stepping into it she sat herself down. "Well then, we'll just have to trade stories when we can," she smiled. Getting together and talking every now and then wouldn't bother her one bit. She held out her hand to help him into the boat after it was pushed into the water.

Colt chuckled to himself really. Typical girls don't really know about football and rugby. I guess they got other priorities right? Colt agreed with Daisy on that subject. "Well yeah...I mean there are some faces you can't even stand either. Sometimes you just want to hex them.." He was talking about his brothers faces to be specific. Oh here we go. We got a sensitive one here. She was offended that she got picked to be keeper. "Well I figure that your so tough you can handle it. Besides I got new broom tricks I wanna try.." Sounds reasonable yeah? Well DUH they would take turns. "Yeah yeah..." he agreed with her idea. He obvs needed to work on his keeper skills too. They were rusty.
Daisy said a comment that he would keep in his mind, "Well, your family probably just finds other values more important than intelligence..." That was true. Not everyone had to be smarty pants. "I like what ya said there.." he commented on her words of wisdom. "I'll keep that." Now to go out with a bang, "Hmm I need to go out with a bang huh? Well then I got to pull a legendary prank huh?" He thought out loud to his fellow slytherin. "Alright alright I will get you fizzing whisbees in hogsmeade how's that?" Since that trip is coming up soon sounded like a good idea.
Now that Colt and Daisy were near the water, he couldn't believe her call worked. He was impressed and he walked towards Bartholomew but was careful not to get into the water. He never seen him up close before. "What's up Bartholomew?" the head boy greeted him. "We got some bread if that works..?" he held up his loaf incase the squid was interested.
Jacob settled up against a tree on the short of the Great Lake. He smiled slightly, thinking about what a nice day it was. Before too long, it would be too cold for him to do his homework out here, so he was going to enjoy what was left of the warmish weather before it was all gone.
He did intend to actually work on his homework, yes -- he was a Ravenclaw, after all -- but he had been thinking about writing his brother for quite some time. Maybe he could do that first and get it out of the way, then stop by the Owlery on his way back inside. Yeah, that was a good idea. He pulled out a piece of parchment and his favorite quill and began to write:
Dear Jared,
Hey, how's it going? How are things at Ilvermorny? Are you dating that MACUSA girl you were telling me about yet?
Speaking of which (sort of), I wanted to ask you some questions. I am not looking to date anyone right now, but I am lacking in the friend department. I've met a couple of people who seem pretty cool, but I don't know. I don't have a knack for making people like me, not like you do. So I wanted to know... How do you do it?
He frowned at the parchment. This all sounded kind of pathetic. Maybe he should start over and find a way to bring it up more naturally. And not like a total whiny baby loser. He bit his lip, considering, before crumpling the parchment with a sigh.
Hello! Who were these students? “Good day,’’ Bartholomew said in a polite tone to the two newcommers. “Food? I do love food. What have you got?’’

Daisy wasn't exaaactly sure that she totally agreed with Colt there. Yeah, sure, some people were really annoying but to actually want to hex their ... oh. Oh no, hang on. Yes, she definitely agreed with Colt after remembering some people. Still, hexing was too conspicuous. "You shouldn't hex them, though. Elbow them in the nose during a Quidditch match, that's what my Dad always says." Yes, Daisy was sharing PRECIOUS Carden life advice here, okay? He truly better appreciate. "You don't need to be tough to be a keeper." She told him with a raised eyebrow. He was mocking her, wasn't he? It definitely felt like it, anyway. It was the pressure of being a Keeper that got to her, not how tough you needed to be. She was definitely looking forward to seeing those new tricks he wanted to try. "Hey, I'll even offer to the Keeper first!"
YUP, because then he'd see her TERRIBLE Keeper skills but then would be SUPER DUPER impressed by her Chaser skills.
What a flawless plan.
There she was again, giving precious life advice. Daisy nodded when he said he would keep her words. It was true, that's how the hat sorted the first years, according to her Mother. Not the trait they possessed the most, but the trait they most valued. It made perfect sense to her, otherwise her Mum would have been a Ravenclaw, like Maxton. Dad would probably be a Hufflepuff. Daisy would most likely be in Gryffindor. Instead, they were/are all Slytherins. All this thinking and pondering was making her head hurt and Daisy finally turned to Colt at the mention of a prank. "It will have to be legendary! Any ideas yet?" Could Head Boys even prank people?
LOOK. The Squid was approaching them AND Colt was getting her Fizzing Whizzbees at Hogsmeade. This day was AWESOME. Daisy bounced excitedly on the balls of her feet, watching as the creature approached her and Colt. She had never, ever, EVAH seen it this close. Sure, she had seen it swimming far away in the lake, or even swimming by the windows in the Common Room but this was EXCITING. And it wasn't even the best part. Daisy grabbed Colt's arm tightly and turned to him in excitment, eyes big as saucers. IT TALKED!! The Squid talked! WHAT?!
FIVE YEARS IN THIS SCHOOL AND NO ONE TELLS HER THE GIANT SQUID CAN TALK???!!!
He pulled out a piece of parchment and his favorite quill and began to write: Dear Jared,
Hey, how's it going?
Several fleeting glances out her Divination tower window had told Laurel that it was going to be a nice day for a walk on the grounds. It was still warm, since winter hadn't come just yet to Scotland, so it was a big shame to waste a nice day by being cooped up inside her tower for all of it.
Laurel had work to do, but which professor didn't? Putting on a green cloak over her robes and slipping into a pair of comfortable shoes she left her tower and made her way down the castle staircases in quick succession, greeting students as she went, until she stepped outside and could breath in the fresh fall air.
In a slow pace she followed the path towards the lake, not thinking about anything for a change until she spotted a boy figure settled up against a tree. Curiously Laurel walked closer, recognizing who sat with his back against the bark. With a gesture to the crumpled paper she asked "Who has made you angry Jacob?"
Come one, come all and join us in some holiday cheer! In the mood for some ice skating on the lake? Fancy a bit of sledding? Maybe a snowball fight with all your friends (and maybe a professor or two)? Well, the Great Lake is your home for all outdoor winter activities!
