Study Tables
|
At least twice a week, Declan took out two or three hours to do some independent studying. It wasn't on anything that was required for class. It wasn't like he was taking Advanced Divination yet. Still, even if he was, he highly doubted the kind of stuff he was trying to compile would be useful for the school's predictable curriculum. In reality, Declan had pretty much read every book dedicated to Divination and similar subjects that the Hogwarts' Library allowed him access to. The Restricted Section had its allure. Often Declan had found himself standing in front of the gate, disoriented and numb, unsure of how he had gotten there in the first place. Now the librarian gave him odd looks whenever he entered even if he was just looking up books on plants and herbs. Charlotte laid on top of his velvet bag containing his casting bones. Her eight legs remained still but Declan could hear her distinct voice, a gritty grainy thin voice he couldn't really decipher. "You got something on your mind, sweetheart?" he whispered to her, stopping himself half-way through writing down notes on the relevance of planetary alignment when it came to prophetic dreams. "You know I'm no good at reading you yet. Sorry. My incompetence knows no limits, huh?" His tone turned sweet, and he rubbed at her fuzzy belly. |
For Declan Zelena needed to distract herself and doing some reading on her favourite subjects seemed like the best thing to do. She headed for the study tables and after grabbing a couple of books each on the subject of Charms and Transfiguration, spotted a fellow Sixth-Year surrounded by charts and was that a spider? How cute. "Hello there. Can I sit next to you? Nice spider you've got there." |
A voice he could actually discern startled him. Declan jumped slightly and withdrew his hand from Charlotte. Again, he was struck with how bad he was with attaching names to faces. Her hair was a particular shade of grey that told him she was neither a "Daisy" or "Etta" type. "What color is your hair?" he asked her bluntly before realizing how rude he was being. "I'm sorry, yeah, it's fine. You can sit," he added quickly, moving his charts, books and notes further to one side to allow her room on the table. "I'm just..." Being an absolute weirdo. Declan cleared his throat, drummed his fingers on the table nervously, and kept his eyes on Charlotte. "She's sweet." |

"Declan," he introduced himself simply and nodded. "Well, I think mostly, it's just the one that holds my interest the most? I don't know about favorite." He allowed a moment of silence before daring to ask again. "I'm sorry, what hair color is that?" he asked pointing at her head with a nod of his chin. |

"I was just wondering if you were perhaps, colourblind. It is just that you seem focused on the shade of my hair. I am so sorry if I offend." |
Declan leaned back a little. He frowned and hummed as he thought back to when he first met Charlotte. "Uhhh, I'd sayyy," he drawled trying to figure out a more accurate number but coming up short. "About three years? It was my third year and I'm finishing my sixth year here at Hogwarts so I think that sounds about right." He wondered if he had been very obvious or the girl was very clever. He wasn't sure but he was taken aback by her guess. Declan nodded with raised eyebrows. "Yeah, I am. Not offended though. It's not a big deal. It's just something that's true." |
