SEMINAR 1: Yeti Challenge :: The Abominable Snow Run An hour and a half after the school's lunch break, Healer Reed who was decked in his full winter gear paced back and forth at the Entrance Hall with his hands tucked behind him as he waited for the students to arrive. As he reviewed the activity in his mind, he could not help but grin once in a while, thinking that he never imagined that he will be back in Hogwarts to teach, and execute health and wellness activities. |
Leon, decked out in his winter jacket and pants, made his way down to the entrance hall and smiled as he saw Healer Reed and his two dogs. "Hello Healer Reed, how are you this afternoon? " The seventh year asked with a warm smile as he smiled down at the dogs. They were pretty cool and they looked bundled up for the adventure as well. The older boy had his hat and gloves in his hands as he waited for other people to appear. Running in the snow? Sounded super fun! Leon wondered if a certain blonde was going to appear and he tried to keep the smile from his face. Merlin.. |
Etta, properly dressed in her winter clothes, entered the entrance hall... realising that she was WAY too early. Whooops. And she was already feeling a little nervous. Forget running, Etta couldn't even walk in the snow without tripping. "Hello, professor." She greeted with a smile before her gaze wandered down to the dogs. They seemed to be dressed for the outdoor activity as well, so adorable. Could she pat them? Scratch the top of their heads? Yes? No? She wasn't sure. Her smile widened to a grin as she turned to look at the fellow student. "Hi." |
Zoryn was here. She was bundled. SHE WAS REAADDYYYYYYYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!! Sort of. It was really hard to walk around in all of these layers. She felt super stiff. But.... She was making it work. Sort of. Currently she was doing a cute little waddle, moving one leg in front of the other veeeeeeeeeery slowly. But, uh, she was working on making it to the healer. Slowly. But surely. Almost there. Sort of. After a very long time and lots of hard work (her little legs weren't made for this ok), she FINALLY made it to the group. "O-M-G," and the dogs. "THEY ARE SO FLUFFY!!!!!!!!" She squealed, bolting (or trying to) towards them. HERE, HAVE A HUG!!!! uh oh. or not. Ahem. Man down...... "Help, please?" She had face-planted. Right in the snow. Great way to start. |
*answers Zoryn's plea* She had gone back and forth with her decision of if she wanted to join in on the Healer’s program. The thing that had pushed it over the edge into participation for Elle was the fact she assumed it meant going outside. No matter how cold it was, fresh air was nice. Plus, most plants were outside, or at the least, out in the green houses. She couldn’t stay holed up in the dungeons. Even if she’d wanted to, it wasn’t exactly that much warmer there, aside from the fire. She’d made the trek up to the Entrance Hall in her winter gear, blonde hair mostly covered by a well-wrapped Slytherin scarf, only to find herself faced with the scene of a face-planted first year. Well, that and a few other students along with the healer and two large dogs she assumed were his. They were awfully attentive toward the healer if they didn’t belong to him. She’d gone over to the first year in any case, reaching down to try to help her up. “Careful,” she said gently, with a smile. “Zoryn, right?” She thought she’d heard the name in connection with the girl, although it was kind of hard to be sure under all those layers. |
Harvey arrived, as instructed, in full winter gear. Well, almost - he'd put his gloves and coat on when they actually went outside. He didn't want to overheat or anything. There were a few people already there, and... whoa, those dogs were massive! |
Woww did everyone else see that adorable dog--- oh and THAT adorable dog! TWO DOGS! So cute! So BIG! And cuddly! Charlotte arrived in the Entrance hall, wrapped up warm and READY. She came to a stop right in by the healer, not approaching the dogs right off but obviously admiring them. Look at their little outfits! They were working dogs? Char adjusted her fluffy ear muffs and looked at the Healer. "Hello Healer Reed! Are the dogs running with us too? They are so handsome! What are their names? Are they working dogs? Does that mean we can't pat them?" Did they need to warm up? Because Char was amped, and already bouncing from foot to foot. This sort of thing was right up her alley, she always had energy to burn and she wasn't going to let anything ruin her day. |
Sinead still wasn't entirely clear on what this seminar thing was that she'd been roped into, but apparently it was 'highly recommended' and somehow she'd ended up here before she really had a chance to back out. It couldn't be that bad though, right? Seminars were a type of lesson, she was pretty sure. And she liked lessons. Most of them didn't start out this way, though. She was bundled into various layers of school jumper and house scarf, a black and green blob with a small and skeptical face peering out somewhere near the top. The arrangements in the entrance hall didn't give her much more clue as to what they were doing- though the dogs seemed to be wearing something first-aid related, so maybe they'd be learning healing? That would be pretty cool. |
So the announcement had said something about a run. Carlton couldn't even walk in the clothes he was wearing. It had been a struggle to get from the dormitory to the Entrance Hall. But he'd made it in time. Which was a miracle in and of itself. He spotted Healer Reed and the small group of students AND THE TWO DOGS somewhere in the distance. He puffed. "DOGS." He continued to waddle forward, sloooooooooowly inching his way towards the group of people. Carlton noticed Sinead and tried to give her a wave when he got closer but he could barely move his arms. He did give her a finger-wiggle though but she probably didn't see it. FINALLY. He arrived. Students had actually passed by him when he made his way forward. He was not moving fast. "HellohealerReed". His voice was muffled due to the three layers of scarves he was wearing. He wiggled his head to free his mouth but he was bundled up too good. "Hello Healer Reed!" Better but not perfect. At least he tried to be polite. "I made it." He murmured to himself, beaming looking around at the other students at the dogs of course. Although, no one could see he was beaming because he was practically wearing all the clothes he had. Everything he owned. Right there. On his body. Anyone else getting warm? No? No one? Just him? |
Derf was stoked. STOKED. YETI! THEY WERE GOING TO RUN WITH YETIS! The first year could hardly contain himself as his sprinted from his dormitory upon changing into the appropriate attire and his excitement only escalated when he saw not one but TWO dogs. And not just any dogs...but Newfoundland dogs! THEY WERE GOING TO RUN AND SWIM WITH YETIS! Did yetis even know how to swim? He had never stumbled upon THAT in his reading so he was already learning something NEW about creatures and that automatically made the Healer a-okay in his highly impressionable book. "Good day, Mister Healer!" the blonde chirped with more than a few extra eager bounces to his step. Aaaaaaaaand making a beeline for the dogs. Yes. Hello. Here was his hand to sniff and get acquainted with. Hi. He really needed to start packing dog treats in his pockets. |
Yeti. Thats it really. He didnt even get to the end of the sentence before deciding he's gonna be right here bright and early. And given the turn out, apparently so did a lot of other students. Tenacius made his way to the entrance, all bundled up and ready to go. "Goodafternoon Healer Reed--" the Curly Top started when he saw the doggehs! Naturally he gravitated towards the adorable pooches. Can he pet them pleasssssse? |
Whoa, man. Yeti Challenge. A YETI. C H A L L E N G E. Of course Matt would be there. CHALLENGES were one of his FAVOURITE THINGS. And a challenge to do with Yetis. Man. This healer person was already in his good books. When the Gryffindor arrived at the Entrance Hall, the very first thing he saw were the two highly fluffy dogs. Heck, they were ultra fluffy. Look at all the FUR! Who dat. The man pacing back and forth was probably the healer. Matt had NEVER EVER had to go to the Hospital Wing so he wouldn't really KNOW, but he had a brain and therefore assumed that was the guy. Nice choice of dogs, he had to say. AND! They had the first aid thingies on them. Like in them Muggle films. OH, were they going to learn how to perform CPR??? WOULD HE GET TO RESUSCITATE PEOPLE? That sounded super heroic and Matt was totally up for that. HE WAS SUPER EXCITED. "Hello, Mr Reed, healer Reed... sir." He knew the man's name at least, for obvious reasons. The fourth year gave the healer a quick 'salute!' "Nice dogs. Tell me, are we going to SAVE some people today?" Did he have to say he was ready? Because he WAS! HE WAS READY TO SAVE PEOPLE! And do the challenge. YETI CHALLENGE, HECK. Yeah. |
Her stomach was still filled for her lunch as Kay made her way to the Entrance Hall. She was going to lend her support to her friend today. Dressed appropriately for the weather and fixing her gloves more comfortably, she greeted the kiddos with her familiar smile. “Hello, everyone.’’ She was pleased to see all the students that had showed up so far. “Hello, River, Roscoe and Bumi.’’ Did Kay feel out of place? Not one bit and she knew very soon there would be at least one other staffer joining them. She simply stood next to River. She hoped Rose would get there before the seminar began. “I can’t wait to get started on the chall- oh, Ms Spinnet! Are you alright?’’ At least there was a concerned Slytherin (Elle) there who was willing to help as well. |
Hirsch was not going to miss this for the world. Why? For one, it had something to do with fitness and stamina and, if boxing was involved somehow, he was all up for that. And for another, a certain resident here knew far too much about his health and lifestyle for him to be casually skipping this event. Not naming any names but we're looking at you, Healer Reed. And so, decked out in winter gear, the tall man jogged down a few staircases and landed in the Entrance Hall. A dimple-showing smile crept up on his lips and he waved over at a few students that were already gathered there as well as Kaysha (was she assisting?) before making his way towards the Healer himself. "Everything ready?" And when could he hang out with the dogs? |
"Hello everyone!" Junia L. Botros in the house, dressed for the winter weather and ready for whatever Healer Reed had in store for them. She wasn't the best at activities requiring great strength, but she was quite quick, and she did like the professors in attendance so far. There was also the small fact that she liked to prove she could do anything her classmates could do, so that was an added incentive to participate. She wasn't as quick to cozy up to the dogs because from what she understood, big dogs often meant lots of drool and ewww! She did stand in front of them, though. Her gaze was kind and curious as she imagined herself riding in a carriage pulled by such pretty, large dogs. That'd be a pretty cool way for a princess to get around in the snow. |
Layers. That was how Daisy intended to get through this. A whole lot of layers. Thermal, cotton, wool, the coat her Mum had made her get when they had gone skying, beanie hat, gloves, snow boots, tights and snow trousers. YES SHE WAS READY FOR THIS. She just wasn't that sure if she could run in all these layers but she was definitely warm. "Hello, Healer Reed!" The Slytherin greeted the man with a grin and a wave with her gloved hand. She liked Healers, they always reminded her of her Mum and how useful it was to have someone around who could heal broken arms.BUT LOOK - DOGS!!" "Oh, what are their names?!" She asked, excitedly bouncing up and down and looking at the dogs. They were service dogs, right? Was she allowed to pet theeeeeeem? |
Woah a Yeti challenge? This head boy was def in. He loved the aspect of a challenge and plus his favorite weather was the snow. He loved the idea of playing in it and just having fun. The noticeboard said he needed to dress in winter gear, so he called some small favors and got his winter gear sent over. He got his snowboarding gear which was warm. Really warm in some cases. He got his googles, hat, gloves, his suit and snow boots. He came all dressed in the great hall and he was already sweating. He saw his other classmates ready for the challenge as well. He nodded and waved to all of them. As he turned around, he noticed dogs! Woah they were gonna use dogs on this adventure? This was getting better and better. He saw the healer there and he gave him a polite nod. "Liking the dogs healer Reed.." he smirked and walked over and put his hand out for the dogs to sniff. |
This was similar to one of those 5K runs, wasn't it? You know the ones muggles took part in sometimes... Huh, it might've been a bad idea for Olivia, considering how lightheaded and dizzy she'd been getting lately, but by the same token... the castle felt stuffy and sort've like a prison these last few months. The fresh air was pretty much a requirement, considering. Dressing down in her warmest wool clothing, beanie, gloves... WITH additional warming charms in place, thanks to one of her more steady-handed housemates, the blonde Gryffindor sashayed down to the Entrance Hall. You know, it actually felt nice to sashay. It'd definitely been a moment, right? "Hello, everyone." It was sad a bit louder than intended, but... Well, whatever. The sentiment was the same. Also, there was Carlton. The cutie... AND HIRSCH?! |
WELL of COURSE Skylar was out here for the seminar. FOR ONE, it was being hosted by the OH-SO-ADORABLE Healer. And two, it was just what she needed since there was zero quidditch, this 'run thing' might be just what was needed ... She wasn't as bundled up as she should have been, considering the cold Scottish Winter air, and her mother would probably be disappointed but she honestly was NOT cold between the huge adrenaline rush she was having right now and just yea... but judging from the snow outside, she was sort of glad she DIDN'T need the layers because it just made things difficult to move ... as evidenced by that annoyingly loud first year Zoryn who was face-planted in the snow. No sympathy from Skylar though, as awful as that was; she was nice to people who were nice to her. The end. |
Hi Char <3 Olly was definitely decked out in his winter gear. After a nice big lunch he had headed back to his common room to dress himself in all the proper attire for spending an afternoon in the snow. He was not positive how long they would be out there so he wore the warmest clothes possible, more than he might if he were planning a casual excursion outside. He had his coat, his hat, his mittens, and the warmest pants he owned. It had been really hot wearing it up from his common room, but at least he hadn't had far to go. Except then he still had to wait in the entrance hall until the activity was actually going to start. He maybe should have thought it through a little and put on his heavier coat and other winter things when he had gotten upstairs instead of all the way down in the dungeons. He couldn't take it back now and just hoped they would be heading out soon. When he entered the entrance hall Olly glanced around for some friends. He made his way toward a familiar blond Gryffindor and smiled at her as he approached. "Hey Char. Are you ready for this?" Not that Olly knew exactly what they were doing. Running? Not his favorite thing. That was more suitable for Remy. Speaking of...where was he? Olly glanced around for his boyfriend, but his eyes landed on the two large dogs instead and was of course immediately distracted. He moved just a bit closer. "Hello Healer Reed. Can I pet your dogs?" |
Eeep! There was a seminar, and Rose was not going to miss it. On top of the fact that she wanted to support River, the whole idea sounded fun and as a good way to be active. Too bad it was cold, though she of course was wearing all the appropriate attire for the weather! No way was she going to freeze out here. "Hello everyone! Roscoe and Bumi!" Waves for all the people, and some loving for the cute little doggies. She sent a smile towards River before going to join Kay. Where was Gaston? Rose hoped that he would be here with her! |
Henry was SO pumped for this Yeti Challenge! Really anything even remotely athletic sounded fun to him and he bounded towards the Entrance Hall at the appointed time. He was decked out in some of his winter gear, but not tooo much. He didn't want to get too overheated which could be a possibility with running. And he wasn't sure if there were going to be any actual yetis joining them today, but it would be really cool if they saw some. And he really hoped there would be! Oh, there were dogs coming with them too? Henry drifted over towards them, taking note of their winter outfits too. He didn't want to overwhelm the dogs as there was already quite a group forming around them, but he did want to have a turn petting them if that was allowed. Dogs were pretty much the best. Also, hi everyone! |
SPOILER!!: Look at that turnout! Individual Replies in here ^^ A minute later, River went back to where his dogs were and clapped his hands twice to get everyone's attention. "Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to the first Healer's Seminar. To those who still don't know me, I am Healer River Reed, Hogwarts' resident school nurse." He gave a brief pause to breathe, and then continued. "Now, I was told that activities such as this one has not been done for quite some time now, or not at all." and if he remembered it correctly, they didn't have this sort of thing when he was still a student. "Now, I want you to remember that the topics I have lined up for you this term aren't entirely about hardcore Healing. Considering our setup for today, I wish to address some other concerns that are equally important to you aside from learning some and all spells." River encircled the group, and wondered who among them will survive the run. "With that in mind, I am happy that Professor Hirsch is here with us. He is a clue, after all." Sorry to put you in the limelight Roderick, but River can assure the man that his presence would greatly inspire everyone. "Now tell me, what do you think is important in spell-casting? Particularly in duelling?" River stood opposite where the professors were, and waited for some of them to give an answer. "Remember, this isn't Charms or Defence Against the Dark Arts class. Aside from knowing and mastering a long list of spells, what else should be in your arsenal as a witch or wizard?" OOC: Seminar One is now in session! Please do not post your characters arriving late, however, you are more than welcome to still join! Just post your character as if they were there all along. We'll move the discussion in 12-24 Hours after this post. Thank you! |
Leon was pleased to see how big the turnout was and he was looking forward to running with the rest of his classmates and the Professors.. Also.. something has struck Leon's attention.. The names of the Healers Dogs.. Roscoe and Bumi.. they sounded familiar.. he would have to talk to the healer soon. He kept his eyes on the man as he started to speak and he smiled a little at his question, before raising his hand to answer. "Good reflexes are a must in dueling, as is a fast reaction time as well as being fully aware of your surroundings.. " The older year said with a nod. You could know every spell in the books but if you had bad reaction time, there was no point. |

Oh and they were beginning! ...... giggle. Hardcore healing? How was that different from healing in general? But this was defnitely up her alley. Some older boy that she didn't know responded with an answer of reflexes and Charlotte nodded enthusiastically along with that before turning her own thoughts to answering the question. As a witch or wizard. Hmmm. So it wasn't exactly about dueling even if Hirschy was there.... and it couldn't just be fitness since that would include muggles right? Charlotte decided on an answer and put her hand up. "An open mind, professor! So you can adapt to new situations, and learn something new whenever there's an opportunity!" Yeah! That would do! |
