The house-elves have been hard at work, leaving the Great Hall spotless, the tables set with pristine silverware, and delicious smells floating up from the kitchen. Your stomach might be growling, but it isn't quite time to eat yet.
Hopefully the Headmistress will make her speech before you chew your way through your House table.
"Hello Lady Helena," Kitty greeted the Grey Lady with a wave and smile as she entered the hallway. "It's great to see you again. How was everything at Hogwarts while we were gone? Are Miffy and Peeves behaving?" She hadn't seen them yet. Maybe now that they were married they wouldn't be causing trouble?
Then directing her attention back to Charlie, (who Kitty found simply adorable) she said, " You're going to love it here, Charlie. Do you have any siblings at Hogwarts?"
Was it just her, or did Katherine turn away right when she was about to take her picture? Huh. Well, if she didn't want her picture taken, Kitty wasn't going to force her. Maybe later she'd give her permission to take a picture.
Kitty turned her attention to the feast and began sipping tea.

Leon had a small smile on his face as Kitty started to speak excitedly. He sat back and let her words flow over him, his grey eyes focused on the dark haired girl as she rambled on for a few moments. "I'm glad to hear that your summer went well " He said with a nod as he titled his head as she spoke about muggles. "I wouldn't assume you would do things any other way. " The 7th year said with a nod. Sure Ravenclaws may be smart and crafty, but at least the prefects wouldn't stoop to any illegal means of doing things..
He hoped at least.
Her question pulled him out of those thoughts though and pushed new ones forward in his brain. How HAD his summer been? "It was informative." It wasn't everyday that one leaned they had a half sister, and he had heard the information from an absent father whose curt and acerbic letter had left him wanting nothing to do with the man whose name he currently bore. Though it had put a drive in him to protect his younger half sister and made him even more grateful for his step father. Who was ironically a cousin of his actual dad.

Leon smiled at the wave back from Cassie and in an effort to distract himself from the thoughts whirling around in his head as well as the gnawing hunger in his stomach he decided to speak to the younger girl.
"How was your Summer? " An innocuous question really, one that seemed commonly passed out at the beginning of term, but at least it was conversation.
SPOILER!!: Charlie

Wow.
"Thanks!" She directed this towards the boy who welcomed her, accompanied by a grin. Charlie almost wanted to say "you too," but that wouldn't make any sense at all; Therefore, she just kept to herself after that.
Leon tried to hide the small smirk on his face as the little Ravenclaw spoke to him excitedly. He remembered his first feast and how he had been awed when a 7th year had spoken to him. And now he was in the same place.
"I'm Leon, and you are Charlie right? " He asked the small girl. "Are you happy with where the Hat put you? Ravenclaw is the best house there is. " The grey eyed boy had some pride in his voice as he spoke. He loved his house.
"Feel free to ask me any questions, I've been here a long time. " Going on his seventh year in fact..Merlin, where had the time gone?

Her eyes took in the young eaglettes, from the very shy to the very enthusiastic, before she decided to address all of them.
"Hello and good evening, everyone." Her voice might not be as loud and boisterous as some of her ghostly counterparts but it was one that carried. "To those returning, I welcome you back to another year of magical education. To the newcomers, I welcome you to the house of the wise and creative. I hope you grow to love the house of my mother's. If you need any ghostly assistance, call upon me, Lady Helena," Or the Grey Lady as some others put it. "your resident house ghost."
With introductions out of the way, Lady Helena gave them all a soft smile before perching herself on an empty seat between two of the students.
Ahh there she was. Leon always looked forward to the arrival of the ghosts and today was no different. "Hello Lady Helena, How are you? Did your summer go well? " He asked curiously.
"My summer was great!" Kitty replied to Leon excitedly. "I became friends with several Muggles around my age and learned loads from them. It's really motivated me to try to change how things are with the Statute of Secrecy. Legally, of course." Just in case he thought the Ravenclaw prefect was talking about dark magic, which she was NOT. "How was your summer, Leon?"
Soon the table started becoming crowded. "Hey Cassie. Have a good summer?" She didn't think she'd get a response since Cassie had already moved to sit down and probably hadn't heard her but it was nice to ask anyway. Ooh and there was Haddie. Kitty waved excitedly back at her as she passed by. Later she planned to tell her all about her plans for this year. Would she be able to convert her to her cause? Hmmm...
Kitty felt someone patting her on the shoulder and turned to see Rooney, who was just walking by. "Hey Rooney," she greeted him as he passed by. He looked tired. Also, Katherine had moved to sit down at the far end of the table. Kitty waved at her out of politeness.
Speaking of recruits, Ravenclaw was getting loads more students this year. Kitty felt it was her duty (and pleasure) to welcome all new Ravens. First came a very likable girl who introduced herself to the table. "Welcome to Ravenclaw, Charlie!" she said with a smile, standing up so she could see her better. "I'm Kitty Valentine, Ravenclaw prefect. If there is anything you need help with you can ask me or Rooney. Or anyone really, we're all friendly, but Rooney and I are the prefects." A gesture to Rooney nearby. "You're going to love it here Charlie, I just know it." She gave the cutie a warm smile before noticing another new Raven. "Welcome to Ravenclaw, Jacob!" He had probably heard everything she said to Charlie so no need for her to repeat.
Now that all that was done Kitty took out her camera and began snapping pictures of everyone.
Jacob started as someone began talking to him. He had been caught up in his own mind, still thinking about the differences between the Ilvermorny sorting and the Hogwarts sorting. He made a mental note to go to the library and look up the origins of each... He knew the house origins but not the actual ceremonies' origins... Must figure that out. Anyway, right, someone was talking to him.
"Oh, erm, yeah, hi," he said, blushing just a bit and hoping she didn't realize he hadn't the foggiest what she'd just said. He noticed a gleam of light coming from her robes and glanced down at a shiny object pinned to them. Ah. Prefect badge. So she must be... He racked his brain, trying to remember the names of the prefects he'd been told by someone on the train. Cat? Something like that? He would just wait to hear someone else say it before he dared to call her anything. At least she seemed nice.
And then she whipped a camera out. He ducked instinctively, his mother having been one to subject him and his brother to incessant photo shoots as they grew up. He loathed having his picture taken. Still, he realized that that was probably a strange reaction and raised his head cautiously, the beet red blush spreading further across his face.

Glad for a distraction from the camera hubbub, Jacob straightened his tie and turned as the Grey Lady began to speak. He had begun to get used to the presence of ghosts around the castle last year, but he had almost forgotten over the summer. He tried not to look apprehensive as she settled beside him. "Nice to see you again," he said to her. "I hope you had a good summer." The Grey Lady was one thing. She was nice. The Bloody Baron, on the other hand... Jacob was terrified of a little freaked out by him still, even though the ghost had never done anything to make him feel that way. He just seemed scary, what with all the blood and chains and whatnot.

Ok so Hadley left in a huff, and he was confused by what set that off. Is this one of those weird things girls do? Because Mell would occasionally do the same thing. It confuses the boy ok?
But he knew the value of friendships and good people, so as soon as Tenacius could find some free time from his Prefecty duties, he went to the table of the blue and bronze-- his could've been home, had he chose it-- and went to look for the headstrong blonde.
He waved hello to his fellow Prefects and was about to ask where Hadley was when he spotted her himself. He walked beside her and gingerly leaned into her line of vision. "Are you angry with me?"

Hads tipped her head toward the spectre. "Hello, Lady Helena. Did you have a pleasant summer?" Lame. She knew it too, but what were you supposed to say to a ghost? What's new? How's the afterlife treating you? See any good movies lately? Somehow, Hadley had a feeling that those questions wouldn't go over well. And Hadley honestly didn't know Lady Helena all that well to ask more specific questions.
Oh, a distraction! Perfect. Truthfully, Hadley was not angry at Ace. A bit hurt, maybe, that he didn't tell her right away. But that was on her more than it was on him. Natalie was her best friend, in truth, and had been all her life. And as twins, they told each other everything. As did Rachel and she. But, it wasn't reasonable to expect that of everyone and Hads knew this.
So, no, she wasn't mad, she was just having too much fun messing with him. Which probably meant it was time to stop messing with him. Still, Hads couldn't resist messing with him just one last time. She turned and gave Ace a sharp look, the corners of her mouth threatening to break into a grin and spoil the charade. "Friends tell each other things," she said, just as sharply.
Then Hadley relaxed, quite noticeably, and flashed a wide, toothy and way too amused smile. It was that signature Denaker grin that announced with no room for misinterpretation that she was all too pleased with herself. "Dude, relax. I'm not mad. Just messing with ya."
Katherine counted to ten. Kitty didn't look like the type to force her, or sneak up to take a surprise photo, so after she believed she made her point, she turned around. Yes, good, Kitty was already doing something. While looking at the older girl, she spotted Haddie out of the corner of her eye and waved back. She, too, was getting impatient. She eyed the staff table. The Headmistress was a new one too. She wondered who she was...
She politely waved back at Grey Lady. She wasn't about to offend a ghost, after all, by ignoring her. Then, thankfully, the Headmistress sat up to deliver her speech.
...
An American... headmistress for a British school? The woman could as well be a British, of course, but that chance was slim. Well. Katherine couldn't go ask her that, could she? So she shrugged, noted down the new names at staff, and got herself some food. She quickly ate without looking up at anyone as if she was in a hurry, got some fruit into her pockets and... left.

Zara was rather tickled that she finally knew she was an Eagle like her mum and Mina. They had told her so many stories about their times at Hogwarts and knowing that she was going to following in their footsteps made her very excited and happy!
Scanning the length of the table, she headed for an empty spot and sat down. "Hello, I'm Zara." she smiled brightly as she gave a small wave to those around her. They all looked to be a nice bunch and it wasn't like she wasn't a nice person. First impressions were always a good thing and she was going to try to make good impression from the start.
Glancing over at the other tables, her eyes settled on the Gryffindor table as she looked for her first new friend. Zoryn was a Lion but so was Bale, at least they were in good company. She would have to make sure he was nice to her or else. Giving a small wave to the Lion table, she glanced over to the other tables just as something shiny caught her eye.
GLITTER!
There was all kinds of shiny happening over at the Slytherin table and that totes had all of her attention! If there was one thing that she really LOVED, IT WAS SHINY GLITTER. Okay, she loved all things SHINY! Glitter was just near the top of the list!
In the midst of appreciating all the shiny glitter, the appearance of the Grey Lady caught her attention. Turning her attention back to her own house table, she smiled. "Good Evening, Lady Helena." This was all kinds of awesome! She heard stories of the house ghosts, but she didn't think she would see all of them the first night!
