Office Of Professor Kaysha Stewart Thanks to Kita for the pretty banner! Once invited into Kaysha’s office, you enter to find she had decorated it simply. The walls have been covered in amethyst coloured wall paper, her favourite colour. Over these wall papers, there are many framed photos of persons precious to her. One frame holds a collage of her at various ages, another shows pictures of herself and her father and yet another shows a picture of her beautiful, deceased mother. Most of the photos, however, contain pictures of her previous students from the Muggle Primary and Secondary schools she had taught at as well as from the little volunteer group she had formed so that kids who needed extra help in school could get it. On one corner, there was a huge, wooden bookshelf laden with an assortment of books for her to read in her leisure time. Would you be interested in borrowing one? You simply need to ask! Just ensure that you return them back in their proper condition. In the opposite corner sat a sort of kitchenette dedicated to store refreshments for her guests. These refreshments were provided by the hard working elves of Hogwarts. In the middle of the room sat Kaysha’s desk which was always so neatly organised. Across from her desk and chair, sat two comfortable chairs. Choose one and make yourself at home! There is no need to be shy! |
Cool beans, she was inside of her office at the moment so without waiting any longer, the sixth year opened the door and entered. Once he stepped through the doorway, he always took a second or two to look around. His eyes had been immediately drawn towards the huge bookshelf at first. Something that always and automatically happened. It was his dream to own a small library some day. Maybe in his basement when he lived alone. "Hey Professor, i like the colour of the walls, its one of my favourites" He said after closing the door behind him and made his way towards the desk in the middle. |
SPOILER!!: Mason! <3 Her visitor was Mason. Kay smiled. She loved having visitors, you see. “Hello, Mr Winslow! Why thank you. Amethyst happens to be my favourite colour.’’ She gestured to the chairs before her desk. “Have a seat.’’ She had also not missed his glance towards her bookshelf. “Are you fond of books? If you like, you may have a closer look at them.’’ She was curious and if he was fond of them, Kay was quite willing to lend him a few. She had a variety to choose from so there was bound to be something that Mason would like. Sharing knowledge was quite fun especially if she were doing that with her students. “What can I help you with today?’’ Did he want to know how a particular muggle object worked? Or did he just visit for a chat? Whatever the reason, the woman was here. |
SPOILER!!: Before the office ^^ Oliver glanced up at the door when he heard a voice from behind call for him to enter the office. Her voice sounded nice, but that didn't make him any less nervous. At least his first two meetings had gone well, so the chances of this one not going well was unlikely. He just had to remember that. Getting up from his seat, he slowly walked to the door and opened it. Ollie peeked his head in and smiled at Professor Stewart. "Hello, Professor." Honestly, he hadn't really thought past that. He was expecting for the professor to come to her door just as the other two had, so he was a little caught off guard by having to talk first. He could do this though! He was somewhat sure of it. "I hope I'm not bothering you or anything? I was just wondering if I could talk to you about...teaching Muggle Studies and whatnot." This probably seemed out of the blue for her, it was actually kind of out of the blue for him too, but this was on the list of his best classes, so he figured he might as well find out all it took for Professor Stewart to get to where she is today. |
SPOILER!!: Oliverrr! <3 When the head popped in, Kay couldn’t help but smile. It always made her feel all warm and fuzzy when she got a student visitor. “Hello, there. Come on in!’’ It seemed he needed a little encouragement because the Professor recognised that look. The young man was nervous. There had been many a time she saw that look on faces. “Oh no, you’re not. I was actually trying to decide what genre of book I should download next.’’ This gave Kay an idea. “Do you have any suggestions?’’ This was a good way to receive a suggestion plus learn a little about this student since she was quite sure he would recommend something that he liked. This was unusual. It wasn’t everyday that someone asked her about teaching Muggle Studies. “I’ll be happy to answer your questions, Mr Finch! Why don’t you take a seat? Would you like tea, fruit juice or water?’’ |
SPOILER!!: SUCHANICEPROFESSORSHEIS Seeing the professor's smile definitely helped Oliver relax a bit. She had always been nice in class, but he never knew what to expect from professors when they weren't in a classroom setting. He was happy to see that Professor Stewart was still very nice. Closing the door behing him, Ollie walked over to stand in front of her desk, still just a little nervous. Thankfully, the last two meetings he had had warmed him up for now. Oh no. Now she wanted book suggestions though? Oliver had never really been one to read recreationally...though he probably should have picked that up a long time ago while he was doing nothing all those years avoiding people... Think, Ollie. Think. What genres sound cool??? "Umm...well, I don't read much, but I feel like biographies or autobiographies might be cool?? You get a glimpse into someone else's life and how they see things...and it's not fiction." He was sure fiction books were great, but life wasn't a fairytale. If he was going to read anything, he'd want it to be more realistic and other than textbooks, there wasn't much that was more realistic than biographies. And now he could sit, which was good because it would help him relax a little more. Awww and she was offering him a drink. How nice. That would definitely help him too for whenever his mouth went dry. The struggle was so real. "If it's not too much trouble, just a water, please?" He offered Professor Stewart a smile and then looked around the room. His eyes ran across the many many books she had and then went over to all of her pictures on the wall. Amazing how much students didn't know about their professors... |

The colour of the walls wasn't the reason why he had entered this room though. Nor the bookcase she mentioned but he did answer her question by nodding his head. "I can?" he said, his eyes seeming to twinkle as he walked towards the bookcase. "I love them, they're so fascinating. I mean, there are so many worlds that people created" he said as he looked up to read the titles of the books on the top shelf. "I could only read 3 books during the summer vacation though" he sighed because that was a low number for him. "What kind of books do you like, Professor? Or are these just for decoration?" he asked with a light tone of accusation. Walking back to the chair and sitting down, Mason turned his gaze away from the books and instead focused them on the Professor. "Well, this is probably going to sound ...odd" he didn't know how else to describe it. "But i was talking to Hadley during the summer and she mentioned that she was going to California in a ...what's it again?" he thought for a moment "Ah! Flyplain! But isn't that dangerous? I mean, i have seen flyplains before and how can those massive things stay in the air without any magic?!" It was crazy! |
SPOILER!!: ANDHEISSUCHACUTIE! <3 Oliver relaxed somewhat, Kay could tell and was rather pleased. She would hate it if her students were uncomfortable around her. But putting him on the spot was not she had meant to do. “What a brilliant suggestion, Mr Finch. You know, it’s been quite a while since I’ve read a biography.’’ Indeed it had been. “Your suggestion is much appreciated. And I would encourage you to read a little more. Having much knowledge is never a bad thing.’’ She was quite willing to share any books she had if he wanted. “It’s no trouble at all.’’ Kay got up and returned a short time later with a tall glass of cold water which she set on her desk before Oliver. “How are you, Mr Finch? Is there anything in particular I can help you with?’’ SPOILER!!: An equally adorable charrie! <3 Kay gave her soft laugh. “That’s quite fine, Mr Winslow. They are almost the same. You can say purple is one of my favourites too.’’ She nodded. “You certainly may.’’ Kay smiled as she watched him move towards the bookshelf. “You couldn’t have put that better. These books let us travel to many other worlds and I think that’s something special.’’ It was certainly a downer that Mason hadn’t gotten to read more books but there was a plus side. “Better three than none, don’t you think? I’m assuming you had a busy summer?’’ Then if this was the case, it would be understandable. “All kinds,’’ Kay said brightly. She was always so much more cheerful when she spoke of books. And crups. “I do have a special place in my heart for crime novels. Do you see any type there that you like? You’re quite welcome to borrow a few.’’ Flyplains? “Oh, you mean airplanes, Mr Winslow,’’ Kay corrected him. Flyplains made her almost laugh but she didn’t want Mason to think she was laughing at him. “Excellent question! You see, a plane's engines are what moves move it forward. The air flows quickly over the wings, which in turn, pushes the air down and towards the ground. This makes an upward force called ‘lift’ that overcomes the plane's weight and keeps it up.’’ That was just condensing everything to give Mason enough time to wrap his head around everything but she would be launching into a deeper explanation soon. |
SPOILER!!: LOLNOWAYOKAY At first, Oliver smiled because Professor Steward had actually liked his suggestions (What a miracle!) but not long after, his cheeks turned pink when she suggested he read more. "Yeah...I know. I guess I hadn't thought much about it. During breaks from school, I'd rather be out with friends." And while at school, he was busy 'studying' and whatnot, of course. "I'll try my best to read more once I graduate though." Surely there was a biography or fiction book out there he would find interesting. "Thank you." Ollie picked up the glass and took a few small sips. He would have taken a big gulp but he felt like that would make things weird. "I'm okay, thanks. Um, I just...I was, I mean, I am trying to figure out what exactly I want to do in the future, after I graduate, and I was interested in teaching...so I was wondering what teaching muggle studies is like for you." Clearly, he knew what she did, sorta. He had been in her class and he listened |
SPOILER!!: YAAAAASWAY :) Kay nodded. She really did understand. “No need to explain, Mr Finch! Summer hardly is the time one decides to pick up a book. I remember when I was a student just like yourself, I’d love spending time with my friends. Not to mention a few trips here and there to occupy my time.’’ She was so pleased to hear that he would try to read a little more. “That’s the spirit!’’ "You're welcome.'' The woman sank onto her chair once more, listening attentively to Oliver. “Why, that’s a wonderful idea!’’ She was always excited whenever someone told her they wanted to go into the teaching profession. “Teaching Muggle Studies is like a hobby for me. Actually, you can say teaching in general is that way for me since I used to teach at Muggle school prior to applying at Hogwarts.’’ Kay gestured to the photos she had around her office. “Those are some of my past students. It warmed my heart every time I had to pass knowledge down to them and it’s still the same way I feel at present. I find that teaching is rather rewarding.’’ From the way she was speaking, one could tell she was quite passionate about her job. |
SPOILER!!: SHHHHH So Professor Stewart really did understand! "Do you still do that now?" There was no judgment if she didn't. Oliver understood that some people just enjoyed staying home to read, he had never been the type though. He was always out doing something with someone, even his family. Now Ollie sat quitely and listened closely to everything the professor had to say. He really really wanted to know everything so he could make the right decision in the long run. He thought it was really cool that she saw teaching as a hobby. That was the way to konw someone really enjoyed what they were doing. He had heard of teachers doing the job just for the money and how much they hated it. Ollie never understood why they would work somewhere they hate. And the fact that Professor Stewart had taught at a muggle school before Hogwarts really interested him. Maybe he could do that! Though he wasn't sure he'd be too good at any of their subjects. He just wanted to be as happy with his job as she was with hers. "I've never heard someone talk about their job the way you do. You really love it." He smiled and took another sip of water. Then he looked over the pictures on her wall and noticed how happy all of the students looked. "And you're really great at teaching too. I want to be like that. I want to enjoy what I do and be good at it..." He had no way of knowing whether teaching would be that for him though. |
SPOILER!!: This precious pea! <3 Kay considered the question. Given that she was trying to balance her time alone, spending time with her friends and teaching, she hadn’t been reading as of much. Not even when she taught Muggle kids. “To be honest, I do. I try to balance my time as much as possible so I try to read at least for one hour each day.’’ Mostly she would get that done before bed even during the summer time. The woman nodded rather enthusiastically. “I do. It’s the only thing I’ve been doing since I graduated and it’s the only thing I want to do.’’ Then she was smiling. “Why thank you, Mr Finch. I always wanted to be the best professor that I possibly could be.’’ But enough about her. “What is is that you would be interested in teaching? I would suggest that you start small to see if you like it. Choose something you’re good at and give tutoring to persons who need it.’’ |
SPOILER!!: he's a lame-o pea lol An hour every day? But what if the book was too good to put down? And then she stayed up all night reading and wasn't ready for the next day? Obviously, Oliver had never done that, but he had heard people tended to do that when reading a good book. But what was more interesting to him, was that Professor Stewart was so good at managing her time to be able to read an hour a day. "I don't think I could ever do that...I'm not very good at balancing my time. Should I be good at that already?" Was that something he was supposed to learn while at Hogwarts? Because he didn't and he was leaving soon! "Really? That's so cool...so you got a job right after graduating from uni?" He had assumed it worked that way, but what if it actually took people YEARS to find a teaching job??? He supposed he could go into charms developing until being a professor, but what if he couldn't get a job doing that either?? Oliver smiled at Professor Stewart when she said she was just trying to be the best professor she could be. She was definitely succeeding at that! "Well, my best subject is Charms, which is what I've been mostly looking in to, but I'm pretty good at muggle studies too." And he had never really thought about tutoring other students...he didn't even know people needed to be tutored in Charms because...it was just so easy for him. "That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of that. But how would I even let people know I'm offering to tutor them?" Of course he could post flyers in his own common room, but he couldn't really get to the other houses' common rooms... |
SPOILER!!: ISHALLKEEPHIM! <3 Kay smiled at the question and shook her head. “You’re not. It’s something you develop over time and if you haven’t already, then you will get there eventually. Trust me, I speak from experience.’’ She hadn’t learnt time management until after she had graduated from Hogwarts and it was better late than never. “Yes and no. I organised a group of other teens like myself to help to provide extra lessons to children who needed it. There were some that struggled during school time and needed a boost but some attended for the extra knowledge and recreation. We taught them almost everything including reading, music, sports and basic computer skills. While doing this tutoring, I fell in love with teaching. Soon after that, I took up programmes that would qualify me to be a teacher. I taught at Secondary and Muggle Primary school for eight years then applied here at Hogwarts.’’ “Charms! How wonderful! And I am happy that you’re great at Muggle Studies. You’re quite an excellent student, Mr Finch.’’ She had observed him; he was always so diligent and hardworking. “A few notices on the school and Common Room notice boards would be sufficient. You can let one of you friends from the other Houses place them on those boards. In addition, you can also spread the word by telling younger students and your friends.’’ Was this helpful to him? “Have you studied any subjects from the Muggle world?’’ |

Kitty sat up straight when Professor Stewart came out, closing her magazine as she did so. "Hi Professor," she said cheerfully. "I don't mind waiting. These magazines are fantastic." She gestured to the magazine before putting it back in its proper place. Then she stood and walked in through the open and into Stewarts office, sitting down in one of the chairs as soon as she entered. "How was summer?" she asked politely. "My summer was great. Remember how last year you assigned us to write a poem or essay to a Muggle or Muggle-born in our lives, and how I wrote it to one I didn't have yet? Well last summer I finally became friends with some of the Muggle kids from town. I didn't give it to any of them, but I know I will someday." |
SPOILER!!: Kitty! <3 Kay held the door open for Kitty. She was so pleased to have another visitor. She then moved to sit behind her desk, card still clutched in her hand. Her dad’s birthday wasn’t until tomorrow so she had time for it to be delivered. “You’re always welcome to borrow a few, Ms Valentine.’’ Given the fact that Kay would always ensure she put the most recent magazines out there, she didn’t mind if the older ones were borrowed. “My summer was quite lovely but I must admit, I did miss you lot.’’ This always happened to be the problem whenever the school break came around. Luckily she would have her muggle students to occupy her time. “Oh, that’s so wonderful to hear, Ms Valentine! I am very proud of you and the efforts you make to befriend muggles.’’ Surely with persons like Kitty to lead the way with this, others would follow her example. “So, tell me. How did you meet them? Did you spend a lot of summer with them?’’ |
Quote:
"After a few lessons, people started asking me questions and I started getting to know some of them. I can honestly say right now that I love them and they love me. Of course I feel guilty about not telling them who I am, but oh well." She sighed a little sadly. "Anyway, I'll look forward to seeing them again next summer, but I'm happy to be back at Hogwarts. I really missed you and your classes too." And all her other friends and classes, of course - though Muggle Studies was her favorite. Kitty settled herself more comfortably in her chair. "Hey Professor, I was wondering...what do you think of Carlotta Pinkstone?" |
SPOILER!!: Kitty! <3 Kay smiled as she listened to what Kitty said. She really could imagine the girl observing the muggles. Some might find it creepy but the woman would look at it as people watching. “I understand. I find it sad that there’s this stigma attached to persons who love things gothic. But remember, Ms Valentine, never to let this discourage you. You appearance is one of those traits that make you unique.’’ Maybe Kitty needed to be reminded of that sometimes. “You know what yoga is,’’ Kay beamed. Yet again, Kitty’s love for muggles was shining brilliantly. “How did you find yoga in general?’’ She was finding this conversation rather interesting and so far, she was loving Kitty’s approach to getting closer to Muggles. Of course they loved her! The professor was not in the least surprised. “It’s impossible not to like you.’’ Kitty was one of the most kindest students she had ever come across. “Yes, I very much agree with you. It feels like we’re betraying them, doesn’t it? It’s okay to feel that way but for our own safety and peace, we must continue to protect our true identities. It is possible you won’t have to wait until next summer. That is, if you are planning to go home during the Christmas and Easter breaks.’’ “Interesting question, Ms Valentine. You see, I am on the fence when it comes to what she stood for but overall, I think of her as a very strong and confident woman to be standing up for what she believes in. I admire that about her. Have you been reading much about her?’’ Kay asked as she got to her feet. “Have some cookies.’’ She graciously set a plate of cookies before the prefect. |

Stewart's comments about the Statute were interesting and she did have a point, but Kitty wondered how she would respond to her next question about it. "What if there was an even more advanced group of people than we are, and they were hiding from us and the Muggles?" she asked. "And imagine they knew magic or science or something even stronger than both of these, and they were able to cure any sickness. We'd want them to share, right? Well isn't it just like that with the Muggles? I mean, I agree that SOME Muggles are bad and would try to destroy us, but not all of them. It seems very unfair to not share our healing magic with them just because of the bad ones." "Yeah, I started reading about her this week. I mean, I knew about her of course, but I hadn't read any of her speeches or gone into very much depths until recently. I also admire her confidence, and really, I can sympathize with her goals - at least I think. I'm not 100 certain where she stood on Muggle rights. But it's kind of related to the thoughts I've been having recently about always having to hide." |
SPOILER!!: Kitty! <3 “You’re quite welcome.’’ Compliments were always given when Kay thought they were deserved. She listened with continued interest before offering her opinion. “I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Perhaps one day you can show me a few methods. I myself feel the same as your mother.’’ She did. Working up via push and sit ups were her type of thing. The professor did understand what Kitty was trying to say. She really did but she was bound to help protect the Wiazarding world’s greatest secret. “I would want them to share,’’ she admitted. She was not going to lie. Kay shook her head sadly, “We need to learn from our past, Ms Valentine. Yes, we have come a far way from those days where magic was fear but that fear still exists.’’ She spoke softly. “Take a look at the Salem trials or trials in Europe. We don’t want a repeat of this or anything else that Muggles think they can do to exploit us. Maybe some day the Statue of Secrecy will be amended or removed but I don’t see this happening for now. “You and Carlotta have a lot in common.’’ Kay suddenly had a vision of Kitty protesting for exactly what she believed in on a wider scale. No doubt this was one of those students that Kay would hear a lot about after she graduated. |
