| | Office of Professor Hirsch If offices were meant to show the essence of someone's personality than boy oh boy, did this room show what Roderik Hirsch was like. Everything was sleek, from the orange tables to the seats and even to the teal coloured desks. There was a certain gleam to everything, as if it had been well polished in advance.
Upon entering the room, the first thing you see is the desk sitting towards the middle of the room. Sitting upon the desk are a number of things: pieces of parchment, quills, ink, your everyday mundane wizarding equipment. What wasn't mundane was the picture of the Hirscch family gathered together at their most recent holiday, where everyone had been forced to wear ugly jumpers. (Thanks Ma)
The one thing the office seems to be in abundance of are chest of drawers. They seem to be everywhere from along a side of a wall to behind the desk and underneath the desk itself. There are also a few Defence books stacked up along the shelves on the left side of the room. Ask nicely, and you might get to borrow some. Might.
Hirsch himself can usually be found sitting behind the desk with his feet propped up onto the desk and shuffling through some piece of parchment or another. Please make sure you've posted in the Seating Area first and have been told that you can enter, either by Hirsch or by me. |

Besides, the man also had a question. A question in the form of a certain gift the young Ravenclaw had given to him during the Opening Feast. One that was, actually, sitting on his desk this very minute. He picked it up and carefully examined it for the umpteenth time. No new feature or hidden message sprang out at him. It was just a tube filled with some soft, squashy balls.
Confused? Hirsch certainly was.
At the sound of the knock, the man placed the tube down on the table and looked up at the door. "Come in!" If this was someone other than Hadley Denaker then he had some explaining to do. OOC: CALLIEEEEE You're welcome to post in the office thread now! It was a tad bit disappointing that Hirsch didn't come open the door himself. That would have beautifully served Hadley's idea. But it wasn't that big of a deal honestly. Hand still on her own tube in the pocket of her robes, the fifteen year old opened the door, shut it behind her and plopped down in one of the chairs in front of the Hirsch's desk. "Sir Knight." Hadley bowed her head slightly, a small smile itching to form at the corners of her mouth.
She noted the Professor's own tube on his desk and before Hirsch had a chance to ask the question burning inside him, Hadley pounced. In a flash she pulled hers from her pocket, brought it to her lips and quickly took aim at her Head of House's forehead. She blew, hard, into the small tube. With a small POOM!, one of the foam balls shot from the tube, flying directly at Hirsch's forehead.
Hadley's smile grew wide, filled with mischief and amusement. "Constant vigilance, Sir," she reminded him. Did Hirsch get what the gift was now? Hads lowered her tube to her lap, but didn't put it away, just in case Hirsch wanted to retaliate. She leaned back in the chair, carefree. "You wanted to see me?"

What in the name of? "....... Rooney?!"
All thoughts about coffee and a visit to the Bistro left as he just looked at his Prefect. In fact, the pacing student looked like he needed a visit to the Bistro more than he did. What was causing the pacing? He had no idea but somewhere, in the most ridiculous part of his brain, he couldn't help but wonder if someone was trying to demolish the common room as a way of protesting the start of the school year.
See? Ridiculous.
He shook the thought away and moved towards the door instead. "Come in," he said, opening it up for the young Ravenclaw. OOC: SHANNERAMA Feel free to post in the office thread! At some moments, he even paused to consider kicking out at a nearby object or wall, but went against it completely. He had too much respect for the Professor to do that.
But the anger was there and so was the upset. "I'm assuming that you saw my grades, right?"

He doubted whether the girl could actually think about destroying him using a toy - and it would be a poor method of destruction. Just saying. But he didn't exactly trust it either.
And then Haddie showed him why.
His reaction was instantaneous: one minute Hirsch was sitting at his desk in a calm manner and the next, he had ducked his head sideways, doing a small wave of his body as he let the ball zoom past his head and hit the wall behind him. All of this was done in a very quick motion, as if the movement had been programmed into him for this kind of situation. "Constant vigilance, indeed," he said, sitting back up properly and adjusting his glasses as he did so. "So that's what this thing does!" Once again, he picked up the toy and glanced at it with more interest than he did so before. Huh. She'd given him a toy? Why? Had he ever mentioned wanting one? Or was this some sort of prank from the girl? "So this gift...." How should he pose this question? "You're not pranking me, are you?"
The next statement from the young Ravenclaw was enough to remind Hirsch why he'd asked to see her here. The toy was placed down and he tried o look as casual and carefree as she was looking right now. A hard task, mind you. "I wanted to know how you're doing."
Anticlimactic? It was. Quote:

Er.
Hirsch, who had been on his way to taking a seat by his desk, found himself turning around midway and shooting the Prefect a confused look. Take it seriously? Why wouldn't he? The boy was clearly distressed and surely it was his job to care for him? Being his Head of House and all. "Yes, of course I will...." he said slowly.
If this had anything to do with girl problems, Hirsch was going to become very confused and uncomfortable.
Seat? He should go and take his own. Rooney can...... walk out whatever it was he was feeling.
Grades? Oh, he should've seen this coming. "Yes, I have." It wasn't long before he found himself on his feet again and rummaging in one of the many, many drawers. None of them had labels on them but they seemed to make sense to Hirsch, who had found the right drawer and the right folder to pull out. Rooney's folder, actually.
Returning to his seat, the man started rummaging through the file until he came towards...... aha! "Your grades," In case the boy had been watching. Green eyes scanned the list quickly before he let out a low whistle. "Rooney, these are some exceptional grades! Nine O's and three E's? I'd be surprised if you weren't jumping for joy at that." His eyes lingered on the O next to a particular subject that made him smile the widest. A smile that was shot at Rooney when he looked up at the Prefect again. "I have to say, I'm very proud of you. Especially with your grade in my subject."

Dora pushed the door open once invited in. Peeking her head around the door, the blonde smiled crookedly at the man. "Professah! I was wondering if I could have a few moments of your time."
Not that she was ACTUALLY giving the man an option... as she walked in and started peering at all of his things. Maybe she would touch it all again. Hehe.

Three. Three horrible subjects that he couldn't bring himself to love as much as he once had. "Charms was my best subject until my grades came in, Professor Hirsch. If he thought that his confusion was going to be cleared anytime soon, Hirsch was very much mistaken. Not only was he becoming more and more confused by the second but apparently he'd said something wrong? Was something being lost in translation?
........... Five years?
FIVE YEARS?!
Rooney had been thinking about the OWLs since his first year?! That was quite a lot of dedication right there. Hirsch, as pleased and proud as he was, wasn't sure how he should respond to this. It was interesting to hear about the boy's future plans but surely, he wasn't giving up?! Because of an E?! "Rooney, look: you're an exceptionally bright young man and the fact that you've been working on these amazing grades," Because they really were amazing. "for five years shows a strong sense of dedication and hard work. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about when it comes to your future."
Hirsch paused momentarily to glance down at the grades list again, this time focusing on the Charms grade and not the Defence one. "An E is not a bad grade. Never." Green eyes found his Prefect once again and he said, in a slightly softer tone, "You didn't get the grade you wanted, yes, but you're doing the NEWT and this means that you can work even harder for the Charms NEWT. If you secure that O in your NEWT and send off an exceptional application, you won't have any trouble continuing Charms until you're ready to pick up your role at WADA. They'll focus on your NEWT grade, your application and a letter of recommendation from your professors more than anything else. And I certainly don't have a problem with you."
Just saying. "There's also the matter of the Duelling Club. Taking part in a club like this shows how excellent your charms work is, even under pressure, and you've proved that by how well you've done over the past few years. On top of that, you're a Prefect," His Prefect. "and that says a lot on it's own." There was a slightly smug expression o-

The tone changed. While the precious topic was one that a student and professor would go over a number of times, this was new. Yes, he knew some details about Rooney's family history and it was probably because of this that he found himself staring at the boy in disbelief. "What?! He's........ he's getting out?"
Pause. "Are you going to go and find him?" Quote:

Her explanation of the weapon that sat in front of him was an interesting one. His green eyes kept flicking back and forth between the young girl in front of him and the gift she'd given to him. Take out the other person? It sounded almost as thou they were in one of those muggle video games but the weapons were far from deadly and the contestants would take it better than most of the characters did.
And then she mentioned constant vigilance. Oh, it was like music to his ears! "So you want to stay alert at all times? And make sure that I am as well? Test our levels of constant vigilance?" Now that sounded like it was his kind of game, even if the foam balls made it look slightly childish.
Fine. Years of growing up with two sisters had taught him that 'fine' was anything far from okay. He doubted whether she would do anything bad but there were still alarm bells ringing towards the back of his head because of that one word. "Well, that's good to hear." He hoped. "The reason I was asking is because of your extended time spent in the Room of Requirement. What happened last year?"
And yes, it could be a long story. He could listen to it all.

Holding it out for him to see she set it on his desk and sat back. Might need to get comfy... seeing as that wasn't her wand and the Ravenclaw it belonged to was currently in the hospital wing. Ahem.
Did he see how sweet she was? And responsible and honest and stuff?

Yes, he knew some details about Rooney's family history and it was probably because of this that he found himself staring at the boy in disbelief. "What?! He's........ he's getting out?"
Pause. "Are you going to go and find him?" It was perfectly in Professor Hirsch's nature to tell him over and over again that this whole thing with his grades was not a bad thing and not a big deal, but Rooney could not bring himself to agree with him despite all of that. It was disheartening to him to actually have worked so hard for so long to have let things slip for such a short time with being in a relationship and then his dreams were gone. He didn't blame Olivia, not at all...even though he knew she thought that he did. He blamed himself for being so easily influenced and easily distracted. "You know that I always wanted to be Prefect, Professor? Ever since before I came to school here.. My Mum was one." On that note, he opened up his robes to show the Hufflepuff Prefect badge pinned to the inside, close to his heart. Nothing corny about the positioning, it had just been where he pinned it today. "Would you be upset with me if I didn't continue my Defence Against the Dark Arts education after Hogwarts?" Because right now..his heart really lay with Herbology and History of Magic and deciding between the two was going to be a difficult decision to make. That wasn't something to bother his Head of House with. Just Professor Newton and Professor Myers.
And then...there was the Daddio problemo. With a sigh, Rooney shifted in the seat he had finally taken, wishing that his body weren't as long as it was so he could pull his legs up in front of him and hug them tight. "I'm unsure, Sir. Everyone says I shouldn't, but that it's up to me. And...I don't know. He's my real Dad, but I love my Dad now." Dex had been in his life for so long that he really was his Dad. "I just don't think he's changed. Or maybe he has."
Sigh. "You know my sister, right? Brinlee?"

He just had a few of her quidditch trading cards - one of which WAS a collector's item with the metallic border and everything. He had got it from a pack of standard cards by chance...and was just a little disappointed that it wasn't an Alice Odessa Fischer one...but he could have done worse. She comfortably threw herself into a seat and beamed at the man. "You wanted to see me right?" Right? And she had something to SHOW him so she fished said something out from beneath the front of her shirt, looped it over her head, and plonked it on the desk. See how pretty that bronze medal is! Especially considering she didn't even have to come do the right thing... but she was doing it anyway.
"And after we have sorted that, I wanted to ask you if you could help me with a particularly difficult type of magic. For my age anyway. I think I can do it, though. With some help and practice. " Cue her sweetest smile!! And this smile came as she sat opposite the man and pulled the wand from her robes.
Holding it out for him to see she set it on his desk and sat back. Might need to get comfy... seeing as that wasn't her wand and the Ravenclaw it belonged to was currently in the hospital wing. Ahem.
Did he see how sweet she was? And responsible and honest and stuff? ................... What?
If there was one way to confuse the man, this was surely it. What the students did in their own time was none of his business and he vowed to never meddle when he could help it but this was pushing it slightly. If the girl had something that belonged to one of his Ravenclaws, why didn't she go directly to said Ravenclaw? Why come to him?
Yes, he did have some questions.
At the mention of spells she wanted to learn, the curious look that had been on his face disappeared somewhat and he sat up a bit. "Difficult type of magic?" Now she was talking! "What do you want to learn? Which spell?" Because if it was an Unforgiveable, it would be an immediate no. Sorry, Miss Umbridge.
...........
And what was she bringing out? A wand.
Pause.
Green eyes flicked between the girl and the wand she had presented and then back again. "I think I need some kind of explanation." Go on, he could wait. Quote:

He didn't blame Olivia, not at all...even though he knew she thought that he did. He blamed himself for being so easily influenced and easily distracted. "You know that I always wanted to be Prefect, Professor? Ever since before I came to school here.. My Mum was one." On that note, he opened up his robes to show the Hufflepuff Prefect badge pinned to the inside, close to his heart. Nothing corny about the positioning, it had just been where he pinned it today. Oh, Rooney Bronwyn, you cannot just come in here and make something pang in his heart like this. No. Not at all. Green eyes flicked from the boy's face and then towards the badge that was sitting so well on the inside of his robes, right close to his heart. If this wasn't a way to make the man cry, he wasn't sure what was. "That's...." he started softly, "That's very nice of you. I bet your mum is very proud of you."
Upset? Hirsch shook his head before continuing, "Not at all. If it's not part of your life's plans, there's no point in you continuing with it. I would be upset if, in five year's time, I found out that you're on the streets with no ambition in life." Which wasn't going to happen.
While the Ravenclaw talked, his Head of House pushed his glasses further up his nose and listened to the answer. Apart from a small frown on his lips, the man's expression didn't change much. It was natural for the boy to be confused but....... hmm. "Well, they're right: it's up to you. It depends on if you want to go and see him or not. Do you have anything you want to say to him?" Pause. "If..... say you did want to see him, I could always come with you. I won't listen to the conversation, won't even be in the same room, but if it makes you feel more secure, safer, we could make a trip out of it."
Brinlee? "In Gryffindor? Yes, I do. Why?" Quote:

"Do you fancy her, profes-s-ssor?" He'd have been lying if he had said that the boy's words, short as they were, hadn't intrigued him. Eyebrows furrowed, he glanced at the boy, who.......
........ became distracted. By Ariadne.
Hirsch glanced over at the laughing poster that he still hadn't gotten rid of - thanks, Airey Flamsteed - before raising his eyebrows at the boy. "I take it you're a big fan of hers, then?" Since he knew so many facts about her. He wouldn't be surprised if the young Hufflepuff knew more about Ariadne than he did. But here was something he did know that the first year didn't seem to know. "She retired to do a doctorate at university. She seemed to be enjoying it, last I heard from her."
And....... there it was. A question that made the little part of Hirsch's cheeks turn slightly pinker. How was he meant to answer this question? Because this kid was too young - far too young to understand whatever it is that he and Ariadne had. He wasn't going to get letters from parents telling him that he has tainted their child's mind. Nope. "Well, uh, yes, I guess you could say that. Why do you ask?" And why was he talking about this to a student in the first place? Quote:

But before he could continue with what he was about to say, the girl had fished something out and laid it down on his desk. He picked it up slowly and examined it, not quite believing his eyes. He was going to ask her about her tournament over the summer and yet, here was the conclusive proof as to how she had done. Turning it over, the Defence Professor let out a low whistle before saying, "Charlotte! This is...... this is amazing!" He looked over at her and grinned widely, dimples on full display. "I guess congratulations are in order. Very, very well done. You've made a lot of progress since you've first started out and I'm proud of you." Really. A bronze medal and some ribbons! He still couldn't believe it. "Who knows, it might be silver or gold next year!"
Just saying. "Well...... this is what I wanted to ask about. How was the camp? What did they make you do?" And she could have her medal back as well.

He had to admit: the buttering him up with a slight compliment seemed to be working, much to his displeasure. Sure, he wasn't exactly going to say no if she had proposed the idea normally but he wasn't about to tell her that. Instead, the man smiled widely, dimples on full display, as he said, "Of course! Non-verbal magic is very difficult," She probably knew that. "But with certain spells, I think you'll master it fairly well. Especially fire spells." Had he forgotten the ice and fire lesson from last term? Not at all. "When do you want to start learning?"
Mason? "Mason Winslow?" Hirsch raised his eyebrows slightly as he listened to her story. This was bordering into a category he didn't like to go into: interfering with his students's personal lives. But when one comes to present him with a wand of another student, it wasn't as if he could do anything about it. "I see....." he said slowly, looking back at the wand she had presented and then at the Gryffindor again, "In that case, thank you for being sensible in this situation and bringing the wand to me. I'll make sure it gets back to him safely." Pause. "Should I ask how badly hurt he is or should I remain blissfully oblivious?" Quote:

That his jokes weren't as bad as Junia Botros seemed to think and, more importantly, it had made Rooney laugh. It was lame, sure, but the boy was laughing, at least. He smiled in returned before saying, "I would be disappointed if you didn't."
If he was completely honest with himself, Hirsch wasn't exactly sure why Rooney was telling him all of this. It might be something to keep in mind if Brinlee ever suddenly got upset about her, er, real father but he failed to see where this was going. "Are you going to break the news to her?" Letting him talk it out sounded like a much better option, in his opinion.
Think about it? "Of course. Whenever you're ready to." Quote:

Last he heard from her? Well, if that didn't get the Hufflepuff's ears twitching...

"Pers-sonal gift to you, profess-sor? Do you fink she fancies-s you?" Oh, well there went his theory about the Hufflepuff being her biggest fan. He would have had a laugh telling Ariadne that he taught her biggest fan who had to have the latest poster of the woman and was dying to meet her.
Alas.
But the questions? They left Hirsch blinking, slightly perplexed and feeling himself growing even more hot. What was he meant to say to the boy to preserve his innocence? Their relationship wasn't something you could explain to a first year. Besides, weren't there rules about him sharing his personal life details? "Uh, just a bit hot. This weather change, you know. I'm used to colder climates." Outright lying to a student probably wasn't in the professor handbook but right now, he didn't really care. "You must be a really big Quidditch fan, then." Since he knew what was in the shops and what wasn't. 'Do you fink she fancies-s you?'
The question rang in Hirsch's brain as two sides of him battled on what the best answer should be. One side wanted to smirk and be prideful of the truth but the other knew that the owls would come swooping in from the Hufflepuff's parents before he could say the word 'Defence'. "Well, uh, I've known her for a while now," he said, making work of wiping his glasses on his shirt, "We've......... actually been dating."
Why was he saying this? He had no idea but it was better than saying........ you know.

Coming to a stop at his desk she took a seat in one of the chairs. She had been to his office a few times and knew he wouldn't mind if she sat right down. "I think the duels have been going pretty well professor." She had done pretty good against that Head Boy at least. "I've been still trying to do the extra practices as well, well when we can have time now that we've been so busy with portal watching and escorting." She was still determined. "Professor I was hoping to discuss something with you. Something we spoke about last term. It's about... It's about if I'd ever be able to preform a patronous." There she said it.

"Should I ask how badly hurt he is or should I remain blissfully oblivious?" Oh man. That smile. THAT SMILE! Dora couldn't help but beam back at him immediately. This guy was pretty awesome, he was. " You think so, Professor? You really think I could master some nonverbals? " Cue a intensely dreamy look from the Gryffindor. She had always been fascinated by people doing nonverbal magic. Watching her father perform it just to make her smile was one of her favorite memories of life! " And I know it's difficult, but I think I can do it. With a lot of help and focus, that is. And I'd like to start right away if we could." That's, of course, where the man came in... and during the summer where her Uncle came in, also.
The next line of questioning -if that's what you would call it- made the blonde squirm a bit, but she nodded anyway. Indeed it was Mason Winslow she was speaking about. " Thank you, Professor. Sincerely. I... have to say, though... plausible deniability might be the best course of action here. " A lovely term she had picked up from her father, that was. And despite the situation, Dora smiled crookedly at the man. Surely he could read a bit between the lines. No need to incriminate ones self, either.

And no, he didn't mind her helping herself to a seat either.
Ah, duels! "You've been doing exceptionally. Your extra practices have really helped you for these duels." He still remembered the first time he bumped into her in the practice room and how nervous she seemed to be at the idea of having to perform a spell in front of him. "You're very determined, I don't think it's something you'll let die without trying to master. And that's the kind of strong determination you need for these types of spells." Levels of concentration also helped, of course, but that was something they could go into more detail when they started. " I think... people underestimate me a lot, professor. It's kind of a bummer," she said with a shrug. Did he understand what it meant when someone believed in you when so many doubted you or broke you down? He probably had times of doubt in his life, right? Everyone did, didn't they? Or that was what she told herself, anyway. As a means to deal with her self doubt. " And I am determined, sir. I love magic and want to do my best at it and push myself," she agreed with a nod. Her smile hadn't faltered either... until he started to laugh at her.
That was...
Rude.
And hurtful.
She hadn't meant to be exactly funny about it. PD was a thing, after all. But whatever. " I will say that he isn't badly injured. I am sure the Healer fixed him up with no problem," she said in a more somber tone. But she wasn't going to let this dampen her spirits for long. Nope. " And if you have the free time, I would love to go ahead and start now, yes. Should I start with Incendio? Since it is one of my best spells." She wondered aloud as she stood and gave the wand one last look.
Hopefully Mason would forgive her some day. But he had totally started it, so she didn't feel too bad about it really. |

He hadn't been sure where she was going with the topic back then and, right now, he wasn't sure where she was going with this topic either. "Yes......" he said slowly, furrowing his eyebrows at her, "Are you..... concerned, by any chance?" Oh good he wasn't too busy. She wouldn't want to bother him, she knew all the professors were keeping a tight schedule with classes and this portal. She knew her own schedule was getting busier as term went on.
She couldn't help but blush a bit as he spoke of her duels. She was really trying. "Thank you for noticing sir. The extra lessons and your tutoring have helped." She'd never be where she was if he hadn't been here to help. "You are part of the reason I got this badge." She knew it, she wasn't going to deny it either. Without his mentoring over the past few terms she wouldn't have been caught up enough to be a leader nor would she have been ready to be one.
Time? She was struggling with time lately, time and focus. "It's going fine." It wasn't though. She knew it was a lie. She was feeling overwhelmed and very stressed out. The portal worried her, but she tried to make it out that it didn't. No point and scaring others with her concerns. She thought it should be gone by now and then there was class, homework, and NEWTs that had her worried and stressed. The biggest stress though was Cal quitting school. Leaving and she worried about him. She couldn't say that aloud though, she knew that. "It's quite busy with the extra portal duties and things, but hopefully we'll figure that out soon." "Sir I'm very concerned." She wasn't going to lie to him, she had been practicing for over a year, A YEAR, and still no patronus. "Sir I dont' think I can make one. I mean I know I can't, but I don't think I'll ever make one. I think I'm one of those people we talked about last term. I try and I try... I feel like a failure at Head Girl because I can't do one. Professor Vance told me to do one when Mr. Flamsteed was here with the ministry if something happened at the portal and I can't, so I wouldn't have been able to get anyone quick enough." She felt like a complete failure because of it.

Hopefully Mason would forgive her some day.But he had totally started it, so she didn't feel too bad about it really. Underestimate? Hirsch furrowed his eyebrows at her. "Don't let them," Simple. "It might be easier said than done but don't let someone underestimate your abilities. Or, if they do, show them why they're wrong." Not that he was telling her to set people on fire, mind you. At her answer, however, he couldn't help but smile. "Then, I don't doubt that you'll do well in it. It'll just take some practice so persevere through it and you'll be fine."
And then his smile vanished.
Uh, had he said something? The man blinked at her before deciding to move on to the topic at hand. It wasn't something to worry about, was it? "In that case, I will remain completely oblivious," No questions asked. "Incendio would be the best place to start, since it's your strong suit. You might find that it'll come a lot easier to you, even in non-verbal form, than some of the others," While he was speaking, the man had gotten up from his desk, wand in hand, and made his way towards the door. "After you, Dora," he said, holding open the door. Quote:

She felt like a complete failure because of it. He wasn't about to sit there and say that it was part of his job to notice these things. No. Instead, he smiled back at her before saying, "Well, I'm glad it has. You've come a long way since we first met." And that was something he always liked to see: progress. At her compliment, the man did something he hardly ever did: blush. An odd pinkish tinge filled his cheeks and, in an attempt to hide it, he simply pretended to be busy pushing his glasses further up his nose. "That's very nice of you to say, Natalia. You have shown leadership skills and you've come out of your shell quite a bit, especially recently." She deserved some credit too, after all.
Fine. It's going fine.
Did Hirsch believe this?
No.
As it were, the Defence Professor sat back in his seat and waited for an elaboration to that answer. He always had it in his mind that she could tell him anything and anything she did say would stay between the two of them but he wasn't about to bug her for an answer. "Hopefully," he agreed, nodding at her, "Hopefully, you'll be back to your usual routine in no time. It must be frustrating to no end."
.............. Oh.
This admitting of feelings changed the tone completely. For some reason, it made Hirsch feel bad for not being able to teach her how to cast a patronus properly. As if he'd let her down or strung her along because, yes, not everyone can cast a patronus. "Natalia," he started in a softer tone, sitting up slightly, "The Patronus Charm is a very complicated piece of magic. Not everyone can cast it and that's fine. In fact, there are people in the Ministry that can't cast it but they are still competent Ministry workers. If there's one thing I want you to take away from this meeting, it's this: you're not a failure for not being able to cast a patronus. You're only eighteen, after all, and this is a very complex piece of magic."
Pause. "Besides, who's to say you might not be able to cast one in the future? Maybe you need something very happy to happen to you before you can use that strong surge of happiness to drive your patronus out. And if you can't cast one, that's nothing to be ashamed of. In the meantime, patronus or not, don't consider yourself anything less than a competent witch."

Natalia couldn't help but smile a little knowing she made a professor blush, especially this professor. No one would ever believe her. "I've come a long way since I've walked through these doors. I know I can be self-destructive, but I do know how far I've come. I wouldn't be sitting here with you if I hadn't." She wasn't one to trust anyone and now she fully trusted most of the professors here. She had been behind and now she was exactly where she needed to be maybe even a little ahead, she had no friends and now she had plenty, and she had her band. So much had changed in the four years she had been at Hogwarts. "I try everyday sir. I don't want to go back to the way I was. Some days are easier than others, but that's life."
She just nodded with his hopefully speech, yes hopefully things would settle down, but she just had a feeling they wouldn't. She was just ready to graduate, but at the same time scared to leave the comfort of the castle.
She put her head down as he spoke about how many did not do a patronus. It didn't help knowing how many could even younger students that seemed like they shouldn't be able to could do them. It truly felt she was the only one in her year at Hogwarts that couldnt' do one. "What if nothing that happy ever comes? I'm not sure my path is allowed to have happy." Not to that extent at least. Everything she always cared about got ruined in one way or another. "I just think with this portal and all the dangers maybe I wasn't the right fit. They need someone that can get a patronus out as soon as danger is around. If something happens I have to go find a professor not be there to help and just send a message. It's so frustrating."
