Muggle Studies Lesson 1: Famous Muggles: Pablo Picasso
As usual, Professor Kay’s lesson was held in the morning, 10:00 AM to be exact. She was just about finished making the last preparations for the lesson. The blue eyed woman mentally did a check of these: there was a fire that sufficiently warmed the room which was lit in the fireplace at the back; she had all the supplies they would need for the activity spread across her desk though they were covered by an amethyst coloured sheet. There was also something else covered entirely with another sheet of the same colour. Whatever could it be? Doesn't it poke at your curiosity? It stood not on Kay’s desk but rather to the side of it- the side closest to the door and in full view of the class.
There are no indications (yet again) to indicate what today’s lesson will be about, the professor made sure of that as she liked to keep her students in suspense. Satisfied that everything was set, she moved to the classroom’s door. She was ready to greet her kiddos!
You’re free to have a seat when you arrive as well as chat with your friends.
OOC: HalloooOOOooo, my loves! Welcome to the first OOC lesson for the term! Remember to familiarise yourself with Kay’s rules before posting We shall begin in 24 hours! Please keep chatting to a minimum. Thank yoooou! The lesson has started! Please DO NOT announce late charrie arrivals!

''Since the focus of today’s lesson is more on art and Mr Picasso, I have some information on him. If you could please make notes of these important points before we move on.’’ Kay grabbed her marker then made her way to the whiteboard. “Mr Picasso’s most common name is Pablo Ruiz y Picasso, his real name consists of twenty three names.’’ Which was too long for Kay to remember and was not necessary for the students. “In addition to being painter from Spain, he was also sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright.’’ She made these notes on the board as she spoke. “The first painting he was able to complete is called Le picador which depicts a man riding a horse in a bullfight. This was completed when he was just nine years old.’’ Did the students find that interesting enough? Kay certainly did. Unfortunately she had fallen in love with art in her mid teens. “He is buried in the grounds of a château that he bought in 1958 in the village of Vauvenargues which is located to the south of France. According to the Guiness Book of World Records, which is a reference book in which countless records achieved including those of humans are kept, Picasso created an approximation of 13,500 paintings, 100,000 prints, 34,000 book illustrations and 300 sculpture.’’
The Professor capped her marker then drew her full attention back to the class. “I’ve picked some of the most interesting facts to share with you but I would like to ask you lot if you know any fact of Mr Picasso’s that you would like to share. If not, I would like to tell me what you like or don't like about art. Do you like painting over sculpting or vice versa? Has any of you considered being an artist?’’ Really, this was the chance for art lovers- and the ones who are not fans of art- to share their opinions.
OOC: HI Thank you for all the wonderful replies! The next post will come in 24 hours. As Kay asks, just have your charries give any facts they know of Pablo and or have them talk of their love or dislike for art.
Carlton scribbled down his notes as quickly as his pen could follow. There was suddenly a lot of information about this Pablo. He'd heard the name but couldn't think of any facts about him at all. So he sat silent as the other students' hands raised. He could answer what he liked about art though!
He raised his hand and waited to be called upon. "Movies! I like movies because they can be exciting! Or happy! Or... Scary." Yup. Some movies he'd watched had given him nightmares. Not very nice of them. But he loved movies. And he definitely considered it an art form. He was good at movies! Worse at painting and famous painters...

But first, I would like each of you to come up to my desk in an orderly fashion and take the supplies you will be needing.’’ Some of them had guessed by now that there were art supplies under that last sheet by now, she reasoned. She carefully removed it so that they could all see. “What I have here are plain, white paper about 25cm by 25cm in length and width; watercolour sets.’’ She pointed to the two sets of materials neatly stacked on one end of her desk. “Brushes.’’ Of all lengths. “Salt both coarse and fine.’’ These were set in individual salt shakers. “Water and small plastic cups.’’ The water had been placed in large mugs and had to be thrown out into the cups.
“What I would like you to do is to take a sheet of paper or two, a watercolour set, a brush or a few that you will be most comfortable using, salt- either or both types if you would like and about a half of water. There are enough materials for you individually.’’
Carlton glanced over at Rooney and beamed. He must be pleased. Carlton wasn't very pleased. Painting was fun! If people could guess what it was he was painting. Unfortunately that didn't always happen.
He got up and walked with Liv to the supplies. There was so much to choose from!! Carlton stood watching it all and finally got exactly the stuff that Liv did. That was always a safe bet. He waddled back to his seat, balancing the water and the other supplies carefully. When he reached his seat he neatly placed all the supplies on his desk.

So Noelle wasn't really an art person. She liked coloring as a child but that was about the core of it. But Olly lived for art. She grinned as she watched his eyes light up as he talked about it. Her person!
So, no, Noelle had no idea who this Piblao Picuuso mate was. She oohed and aahed at the drawing though. It was very vibrant in color.
Santa Grahams.
Noelle giggled as several people got Santa grahams. That was cute.
Now back to class.
Noelle got up and in line as picked up each item that she was supposed to. It was amazing that the simplest things were used in paintings. Salt. She headed back to her station by Olly. She made sure she had her water too. She was now ready.

Nodding Leesha walked toward the table where all the supplies were and took everything she needed to bring with her toward her table and sat down minutes later, watching the professor. Were they going to draw something during this lesson? That wouldn’t be that bad! She already had feared that she needed to listen a whole lesson long to talk about paintings and people who were already dead for many, many years. But… If they were going to draw then she wouldn’t mind it at all! It actually would be fun to do! But… She needed to confess that she wasn’t exactly a artist so she didn’t hoped that she needed to show her work afterwards to the rest of the class because that would be really a problem!

Straight up on his feet, Rooney moved towards Professor Stewart's desk and waited for others to go first. He collected paper and watercolours in one hand and then went to peek at the brushes available. It took him a little bit of time to decide on a few. Two, that he knew he could work well with and then another that he was taking just to maybe get use out of it. Or become a little bit more familiar with. And then he got together the rest of the supplies and took them back to his desk.
He could smell the salt in the air for some reason and it made him think of how his father salted the path to their front door over the holidays to avoid them getting snowed in.
Although surprised by her wanting to sit by him, Dalton shook his head at Charlotte's words. He also offered her a little smile, and was about to say something about him not minding, when the Professor closed the door and he turned his gaze back to the front of the room. Finally the silly cloths were done with and some ugly looking "art" - seriously, how was that deemed art? - was revealed. Personally, Dalton didn't get art. The art he liked was photographs, beautiful real-life moments captured the way they were, exactly. Other than that, he didn't have the remotest idea as to who had painted it, or whether or not it was supposed to mean something. And, even more importantly, he didn't really care.
He kept his hand down, his eyes on his desk, until... well, until Santa Claus entered the room.
Dalton's head went up curiously, and he felt the tips of his ears go red when his own name was called out. Taking the candygram silently, and slinking further into his chair to avoid peoples gazes, he read the attached card and felt a smile grow onto his face. "Thank you," he managed, turning his soft eyes on Charlotte. He wanted to reach out and squeeze her hand, but he refrained, instead clenching his fist under the desk and turning his attention back to the lesson.
Had she been one of the two to send Henry one? Had she sent them both? What was so great about Henry that meant he got two? Dalton scowled at the desk as he let the thoughts ruminate in his brain, not even caring that he was supposed to be seventeen and an adult soon, not even caring that he was being unfair.
Thankfully, it was activity time. Distraction time. Time to get out of his seat and be one of the first to collect the art supplies, and therefore was back in his seat quickly, too. He wasn't sure he was going to paint anything, so just kind of ended up drawing lines in blue along the paper, letting his hand wander freely at the same time as his mind.

So, they were going to be painting their own version of what Picasso did like a hundred years ago? At least that was what Skylar gathered from the instructions given by the Professor.
Though she hadn't specifically mentioned what they were doing with it yet, but it made sense to the third year. Waiting for others to collect first, Skylar made her way up to the supply table and collected two sheets of paper - because she needed a backup in case she messed up - a watercolour set, and both types of brushes because who knew which would work better for their unknown task?. And an empty cup. Taking all the supplies back to her seat, she frowned realizing this was muggle studies and using the water conjuration spell to fill her cup would probably be frowned upon. Oh. And salt? What was salt used for? Taking her empty cup back up, she filled it halfway with water, as she took some salt from the table as well.
Okay, she was ready now. And trying to not focus on the fact that no one had given her a santa gram. Not that she'd have trusted the candy anyway, but it would have been a sweet gesture anyway. She guessed those she sent to hadn't thought of her , or just she was invisible to them. No one secretly admired her; perhaps she was too young to admire others from afar.

Oh and look, candygrams! Char sat up eager to see who.... ohhh. Oh. Heeh. She blushed a little and whispered back at Dalton a quiet but sincere 'you're welcome'. And then he was scowling and she looked over as Henry got .... two?????? Her mouth opened and then closed.
... wow. Two.
That was... TWO.
She had a lot of feelings about the fact that he had two. And what if he had more than two? He might have got more in other lessons! Or might still get more!
Um.... yeah. Her... friend was... well liked. That was nice. For him. You know what was easier than thinking about that (or about the fact that she'd only got one herself), focusing on Dalton. Cos she was kind of concerned about that scowl.
She leaned over a bit and poked the side of that scowly cheek with her little finger and smiled hopefully.

OOC: Heya! Just one post is required for this mini activity, guys! You have 24 hours!
Oh ART SUPPLIES! YEAHH! But... um.... what was the salt for? Char had no clue. She went and collected everything though and returned to her seat next to Dalton before her curiosity got the best of her and her hand went up.
"Professor, what is the salt for??" Colour her intrigued!
Lulz. Colour.
She'd picked a few brushes. It was good to have a choice.

Distractions WERE good. And aside from the art making, Dalton was a good one for Charlotte.
"What are you going to draw?" Or... you know, paint.
Char hadn't yet begun, instead she set her workspace up with the paper, arranged the paints and water, and the brushes, and tried not to wonder what Henry's two (so far?) candygrams said.

Etta cheered up a little at the thought. Well, that would be fun! Not that she was any good at it buuuut it was still enjoyable. She grinned happily and stood up, walking over to pick up the materials required.
The girl quickly grabbed a few brushes, a few sheets of paper, salt ---- ( Erm. Why did they need salt, though? That was weird. ) ANYWAY. She dropped them at her desk before she went back for the water. Okay, all done. Etta sat down, waiting for the next instructions. The class seemed quite interesting so far.

Pleased that Carlton had decided to join her in her trek to collect supplies, Liv tried to be smart about the brushes she selected, as well as the paints. They were all the same; nothing differentiating them from one another, but still... She was putting thought behind all the things. Understanding that the salt would be used for textures (because she had a Rooney, just saying), the Gryffindor went to drop off the materials she'd already gathered, so that she could make a second trip. Olivia figured there was no point in testing herself with what could be manageable. It'd be her poor luck that she accidentally drop and ruin everything.
"Thank you for sitting with me, Carlton."... Because she appreciated the smol Slytherin boy. "....What do you think we'll be painting?"

Brent grinned and nodded toward the professor in response to what she'd said to him. Welllllll, he WOULD make some Quidditch banners if this school had Quidditch to begin with. "Sounds like a cool idea," he commented. Making art was probably not his thing, but he was cool with making some Quidditch banners.
...and now on to the mini-activity.
This school was big on art, weren't they? It seemed two things usually happened in most of the classes. They were either tossing out the desks and sitting on pillows, OR they were making art. It was good in a way. Sure cut down on the amount of written work he had to do.
He joined the line for materials and waited for his turn. He collected all the materials he'd need then headed back to his seat. Alright. Let's do this!

She would just hold on to the rest of her thoughts. That was that she liked art and any excuse for a person to express themselves in a positive manner.
When the rest of the class had finished giving their answers, it was time to start on the activity. They had to get art supplies. So they were going to do something artistic today. Janelle was all for it. Oooh and they were using watercolors. She was liking this more and more.
Janelle joined the line and when she got to the supply table, she began to stock up. She took two pieces of paper, just in case. Next she got the watercolor paint and two brushes. Not sure what they would actually be doing, she got a thin brush and a broader one. Janelle decided to take a little of each type of salt as well. She wanted to be ready for anything. Finally, she got a plastic cup and some water. With all of her supplies in hand, or in hand and in pocket, she went back to her seat. Bring on the activity.
“Quite right you are, Ms Guidry! The term ‘Collage’ was actually first used by Picasso himself and Georges Braque at the start of the twentieth century when Modern Art was only then becoming popular.’’

Wait... what? Henry gaped at the painting a bit, hearing the professor's words, before looking to her again. Was she serious or was she joking? He couldn't quite tell. "So.. this woman actually looked like this when he painted her? Her tears actually caused her face to be discolored and damaged?" He had the vague notion that it was somehow symbolic, not actually reality. Like... could tears actually do that? He subconsciously touched a cheek as he mulled this thought over.
From Henry’s reaction, she could tell he was being skeptical about her words. “It’s very much the truth, Mr Whittebrook. But her tears did not really burn her face. That was Mr Picasso’s interpretation of what the model’s tears did to her.’’

Eager beaver, are you, Charlotte? Kay liked this very much. “All will be revealed soon, Ms Kettleburn,’’ was her mysterious reply and that twinkle in her eye. She lowered her voice. “Are you two going to be alright?’’ She meant Dalton as well as the reception of the candygrams seemed to have sparked something with the two. And yes, Kay had also noticed that they both had been looking towards Henry.
* * * * * * *
Now that everyone had collected their supplies, Kay addressed them again. “Today you’ll all be demonstrating your artistic talent in the form of painting.’’ She didn’t want to hear that some of them weren’t good enough. She was not going to judge anyone and if she found it happening in the class among the students today, she would not tolerate it. “For the remainder of the class, you will make a painting of your choice. Now, many of you may be wondering what the salt is for. Well, we won’t be making ordinary paintings today. We’ll be making what are known as Watercolour and Salt paintings. It’s really simple. All you need to do is to sprinkle the salt on the wet paint as you go along. It would be useless to use the salt after the paint’s dried.’’ Kay winked.
“So for example. Let’s say I’m going to be painting a crup. If I decided to start painting its face, I would sprinkle a bit of salt at intervals while painting it.” Was she explaining this clearly enough? “When you have completed your painting and salting, just let everything dry. Afterwards, you will use your fingers to scrape away the excess salt.’’ Kay looked at her watch. “You have the remaining of the lesson to get this done. You may begin, everyone.’’
OOC: Haaaaaai! This activity will run for forty eight hours (until Saturday 11th February, 11:OO PM EST). There are no specific amount of posts required and interaction among your charries is encouraged. Kay will be there admiring the artwork But if you need help, please title the header of your post with 'Professor' or PM/VM/MSN me. Pssst. I used this for help xD
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Once Zelena had collected her supplies, she was ready to begin her masterpiece. She decided to do a painting that showcased who she was emotionally at the best of time and at the worse of times. Zelena had chosen coarse salt because she felt that reflected the fact that emotions can be rough and raw.
Zelena wetted her medium paintbrush with a bit of water and dip it in a shade of pink that reflected the colour of skin. Carefully, she painted a pair of hands that were cupped together with the palms facing upwards. She then rinsed her paintbrush off, making sure it was completely free of paint.
She then carefully put a bit of salt in her palm and sprinkled the contents on the wet paint. She then got a small paintbrush and wetted it and put a bit of orange and painted a ball of flames in her right hand. She sprinkled a bit of salt on the wet paint and rinsed the brush thoroughly. She then dipped the brush in some light blue paint and painted a ball of ice in her left hand. The salting process was then undertaken.
Zelena then rinsed her paintbrush off and eventually came the moment where she would be brushing off the excess salt. She carefully used her fingertips to remove any excess and was quite thrilled with her work.
The fire was a symbol of her feisty, angry side and the ice was symbolic of her calm, rational side.
Okay. Let's see what kind of painting we can come up with! Yay! Jonas snorted at this mock enthusiasm. Though the painting was relaxing. He wondered why wizards never adopted this. He shrugged what ever. At least he could paint something now. Actually,he had painted something before so he knew how to use water color paints. He's just never used salt in his painting. He started by using a blue. He didn't know what he was doing but it looked like some type of river. Taking his papper,he tilted it so some of the water would flow down the page.
Let your light shine || Be the sun || You're important. Always.
Alrighty then.
Why did painting seem so..... intimidating right now? Noelle could throw certain spells in her sleep but put a paint brush and some salt in her hand while the professor was watching and.... she was nervous. Weird.
OKay.... so.... what to paint? Noelle eyed the paint in her hand. She looked over at Olly to see what he was going to do first. Maybe he would inspire her?
Olly was a pro though. NO comparison. At all. Taking the paint brush, she dipped it into the water and then the paint and.....
proceeded to throw the paint at the parchment.

Yes, she had been right and they were going to paint! Well… She hoped that her painting wasn’t going to be that bad although she wasn’t exactly positive about it. Looking down at the things before her she wondered what she would draw because… Well… What was there to do? She absolutely had no idea or inspiration, what was nothing like her at all! If you were asking her to think idea’s about pranks then she would come up with really a lot of ideas but… Something to draw? Well… It cannot be that difficult to do because, well… She knew that she would make a mess of her work if she tried to do anything difficult but… She didn’t wanted to draw something childlike too because she didn’t wanted to look like a fool soooooo… What to do?
Taking the pencil in her hand she sighed while frowning deeply, thinking hard. Her gaze turned outside and for a moment she just stared ahead of her, still thinking deeply. Looking back inside the room she saw the uniform of one of the other kids and then she thought about something she could do, she could make a drawing of her house emblem! That was something she could do without making a mess of it! Slowly she started drawing while looking down at her own uniform to see her own house emblem to make sure that she wasn’t forgetting something. But, it proved to be harder than expected because of all the little details she hadn’t really noticed before! Stopping every few minutes to sparkle some salt over her drawing she realized that she didn’t actually minded it too much to do this, it was actually nice to NOT study that hard for once.
Minutes passed and eventually she was done! Looking satisfied she realized that she needed to wait now and… Well… Waiting was boring! So she hoped that the paint wasn’t going to take that long to dray! Looking down at her painting she counted silently up to fifty to distract herself while waiting but already when she reached forty two she noticed that the paint had dried! Smiling because she now knew that she was done she started removing the salt from her picture to see the end result and… It wasn’t that bad!

Yessssssssssssssss. Salt and watercolours were some of his favourite paintings to do when he didn't have anything exact that he wanted to paint. Actually, he often handmade cards and bookmarks for friends and family using this method. It made a delightful background for any calligraphy he was going to do on top of it. Dee-light-ful. He lined up all of his tools and then leaned back in his chair as he decided to think about what he would like to paint in the time frame he had. He had been dying to recreate the dancer he had painted up on Aunt Elodie's boat shed wall and the salt would really bring the ruffles on the tutu to life if he used them correctly.
And the hair...
Liv had so much texture in her hair now it was shorter and he had always wanted to convey his love for her love of dance in paint form. And this was his way to do exactly that. He just needed to perfect the colour system he wanted... Maybe a light grey right around the outside with a centimetre white border around the dancer in the centre.
YES. That was it.
Now he really needed to perfect the hair colour, which was why he was glad he had a second piece of paper and could test out colour swatches.

Kay slowly made her way through the rows of desks, pausing at each of her students. Look at that! They were doing so well and yet a few of them seemed to think they were not good. She couldn't help but admire the various ways at which they chose to draw. "Very nice,'' she would say to one and then another. Kay made sure she complimented and encouraged them all. This was always important to her. Also equally important was that they seemed to be focus on their work and enjoying themselves.
The professor was glad she had chosen this activity even if it seemed childish. Her muggle students, preteens and teenagers, had all enjoyed it when she had introduced them to it. She glanced at her watch after a while. "Fifteen minutes are remaining, everyone!''

Henry kind of lost interest in that weird Picasso painting, even after Professor Stewart explained that it really was more interpretive. Which was what he thought in the first place. But they were moving on and he wasn't really into art much anyway. Besides, he was kind of preoccupied with his candygrams.
He lazily left one end of a candy cane in his mouth as he waited for the professor to tell them what they were to be doing with the art supplies. But first, he glanced behind him at Char and Dalton as the professor asked if they'd be alright. Had he missed something? He gave Char a half smile and tiny wave with his little finger before facing front again. Time to focus on whatever they were doing next. Art.
After listening to the instructions, Henry wasn't completely sure what he should paint. Was it wide open? Or were they supposed to be painting like that Picasso guy? He didn't much like that style, though he wasn't sure how good of a painting he could create anyway. Maybe something that didn't require a lot of realistic detail. Like.. a landscape? Or maybe he could do a sky with lots of fluffy clouds. Depending on how it went, maybe he could add something flying, but he'd wait to see... He wasn't sure how the salt would fit in, but it sounded kind of neat.

Ohh so is that what they're doing? For a moment he thought they were gonna make colored salts. So there he goes grabbing the paper and laying it flat, trying to think of what he could make.... Since this wasnt his medium he better go for something relatively simple-- like a star field or something.
He grabs the water colors and the water cup and starts getting work. He starts out with dark blue. Paint paint paint. Oh maybe he can add some dark purple? Make it even darker? And this goes over there, which meets with the blue... Maybe he can add some maroon red in there, just to break the monotony yeah? Paint paint paint again....
Oh! He shouldnt forget the salt. So he just sprinkles it around yeah? He should use the refined salt first, less disaster if they're smaller
Nuninuninu....

There were paint splatters over the parchment that Noelle had just thrown on. Taking another paint color, this time a nice purple, she threw it on the parchment again. She was waiting for inspiration to hit. Of course, Noelle wasnt an artist like Olly or.... as she looked around the classroom... some of the other people around here.
She still hadn't used her salt but she would get to it. Taking a nice yellow, She dabbed on bits of yellow here and there. Getting lost in her painting, she began just adding color after color, liking the way they mixed together. She grabbed the salt when her parchment had mostly been filled with paint and began adding salt to it. She watched with interest at what happened.

She gotten everything Professor Stewart had asked them to come up and get. Two pieces of paper…a watercolor set…a small assortment of brushes…plastic cups…and salt and water. Most of the supplies made sense, but the salt was a head-scratcher. Cassie had grabbed some of both types of salt just in case. And then by the time she had settled back into her seat with her borrowed items, the professor was moving them on to the main event.
Creativity time!
Oh goodie! She was going to explain about the salt. Or not. It was just mentioned as a technique that was used sometimes with watercolor painting. Cue slight frown gracing the fourth year’s face as she continued to listen to what was expected of them. Cass might just have to do a bit of research after class about it for more information. Her curiosity about the use of salt had been piqued. But for now she would just paint with the watercolor AND the salt as directed. Only had to decide just what to paint out of all the possible subject matters.
A person…an animal…a place…an item or items.
Ooooo!
Getting an idea, she set up to ready some brownish paint tint. And some goldish color. Oh and some black to use as an edge to draw an outline. Cass then dipped a brush in the brown and started off with soft brushstrokes on the left side of the clean white page, trying to get the look of wings. Here’s to the eagles!
This seemed like a bit of a weird lesson- didn't magical people paint too?- but she wasn't about to call out their teacher. Instead, Sinead collected her materials obediently and laid them out on the table, wondering what she could paint. She wasn't exactly artistically minded.
After a while of staring doubtfully at the blank paper before she, she decided to just go for it and have a go at something she would have a reasonable chance of getting right. Geometric shapes and things were easier than live animals, so she tried her hand at a painting of Hogwarts. It wasn't easy to do from memory, but thinking about walking around inside the school helped her work out where all the towers and things had to appear on the outside. While it wasn't exactly a masterpiece, she thought her work was at least recognisable as she began to piece it together, sifting fine salt meticulously over the wet paint as she went. She remembered that whenever they painted with watercolour at primary school, the paper would end up getting too wet and kind of turning into little bits on the surface- so she took care not to soak it too much, rather feeling that if she had to use a spell to piece it back together, it would defeat the object of the class. How annoying, to finally be able to use magic normally and now come into a lesson where the whole point was no magic.
Painting was hard work, when you got right down to it.

"Noelle, what are you doing?" Olly had turned to ask her what she was planning on painting, but she had already started apparently. But what she was doing was throwing paint on her paper? Was she mad at it? Or was this her art? "I'm sure it will look beautiful." Not that he knew what she was doing, but he was going to aggressively support her anyway.
Okay, time to start on his own painting. Olly stared at the blank piece of paper, trying to think of something. Why was this the hard part? He painted all the time. The problem was that there were so many possibilities. How was he just supposed to pick something? He glanced around the room, and then back at Noelle. Suddenly Olly had an idea. Olly got his brush wet and selected the right watercolor color. He kept his body facing Noelle and started to paint.

Soooo, they were working on texturing watercolors? Not realizing that the salt was required, Olivia trekked back up to the front of the classroom to collect hers. Um, sorry about the confusion, folks... Carry on, carry on...
Settling back at her workstation, still sat next to Carlton, who was working on... something she couldn't rightfully tell what, and Cassie, Liv pulled the clean sheet over to rest in front of herself. Honestly? She had no clue what she wanted to paint. She wasn't the artistic one, you see. That was all Rooney Bronwyn... but flowers? The blonde was a self-proclaimed Jedi master at flowers. Never mind that they were probably the easiest thing in existence to draw (and paint). That was very much besides the point...
Very carefully regarding the colors, the Lion quickly decided on purple. Red for Gryffindor and Blue for Ravenclaw... The perfect mixture of herself and her favorite person... Smiling faintly as she wet a brush, Olivia went about dipping it into the purple color, before putting brush to page... She thought perhaps a Gloxinia, which meant love at first sight... Even if that hadn't been the case for herself and Roo, it had built into that. So, still relevant.
Starting in the center point, she slowly began moving the brush outwardly, not actually picking it up, but nudging it? Liv was sure this technique had a name, but it was totally lost to her. After a considerable amount of purple had been spread around that small area, she go on with sprinkling the salt. Saaalt. The smell of it made her think of the beach, which was probably an odd correlation, but... At one point, she'd been a beach bum. Merlin, a day trip to surf would've done her a world of good right now. Er, right... She was getting distracted with her own thoughts again. Once she finished with that, she rewet her brush and dipped it, again, into the purple watercolor. And then started spreading it out opposite to where she'd started. Hopefully, it would all come together... in a believable circular shape. But then again, flowers weren't meant to be perfect. They had their flaws... So.. she'd be arguing that point if anyone had anything to say about it.
Ooooh, the salt WAS texturing her flower. Probably in an incorrect, inaccurate way, but... Well, she didn't know how to really paint anything else and if Professor Stewart wanted this done, she'd just have to accept what was offered here. At least, she was trying, you know?
Mm, Liv carried on with the purple for the entirety of the flower, pausing to add more salt and then get more of the purple watercolor. Once she'd completed the petals, she blew on the page, hoping to help the drying process along. She wanted to add some white and yellow, too... but they were quickly running out of time, so figured that might not be happening today. Maybe this was something she could have Rooney help her with at a later time. They had worked on that massive ballerina in his aunt's boathouse over summer...
Annnnd she kept blowing on it.

Kay made it around the entire classroom once more before checking her watch again. Goodness! Time sure knew how to fly by. She clapped her hands twice to get their attention. “Class time is up, everyone! Thank you all so much for attending today. If you have finished your paintings and would like to keep them in the class as displays, you may put your name on it and leave it on my desk. You are free to take them with you otherwise. Those of you who are not finished may take the watercolours, brushes, salt and painting of course with them to finish off.’’ The woman beamed. “Kindly clean up any mess on your desks and return what is necessary but the watercolours. You may keep those.’’ As a little souvenir from the class! Plus she hoped that some of them would use this as an encouragement to keep on painting.
