Welcome to your first duel!
This is a key stepping stone into determining your placement in the Tournament so please take this seriously. A list of spells to use can be found HERE while the cost of physical actions can be found below.
Please note that these actions take away from the Fatigue Points section. Also note that these are only taken into account if you're attacking or avoiding a spell. If you're simply moving around the hall, these points don't need to be considered.
_______________ Professor Hirsch will be present to oversee the duels and will only interfere if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.
Please remember to adhere to the Dueling Club rules, the DADA rules as well as the SS Site rules.
Good luck!

| H: 300 m: 300 f: 20 Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent Henry might have been slightly nervous to be dueling against someone older than him, but that didn't really show because he was much more excited than nervous. He had been practicing when he could and felt like he learned quite a bit from last year. Stretching a bit as he walked into the arena, he shook out his muscles, then gave his partner a good-natured grin. "Hi! Good luck!"
Proper etiquette was important and he gave Rula a bow before he took his stance and drew his wand. The first thing he did was to cast Featherlight on himself. Henry learned from both Noelle and Charlotte that it was a very useful and important spell when it came to dueling. Even Professor Hirsch had made a point to mention it in class!
He had been working on his conjuring spells, so he quickly sent a flock of conjured birds flying from his wand and while she was hopefully distracted by those, he cast, "Rictusempra!" Tickling wasn't so bad, but he also knew it was rather difficult to cast anything while you were laughing, so it was a favorite of his to use.

| h: 350 | m: 350 | f: 25 Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia It was funny how last term, when she was a fifth year, she'd been assigned to duel a sixth year, and now it was switched - she was the sixth year dueling a fifth year. Kinda cool! Hopefully she'd still win though. Now that her time this year was somewhat freed up with no major exams to study for, she'd been putting in some extra time practicing.
Aww, it was nice of him to wish her luck. Good sportsmanship was always a very good thing. "Good luck to you too!" Rula grinned.
Once the bows were being done though, that meant the duel was about to start, so the smiles faded away.
Time to focus now.
As soon as the birds were conjured, Rula was ready to cast a Shield Charm for the Oppugno that was sure to follow...but didn't? The birds just floated there in the air? Huh?
And then the tickling started, and she burst into a fit of laughter. Hahahaha...oh Merlin...she couldn't believe...hehe....that she'd fallen for that....
Luckily, she'd been practicing some spells nonverbally over the past few months - not that she'd succeeded with many of them yet, except for one, and fortunately it was fairly useful.
She cast a nonverbal Finite on herself, and the tickling and giggling stopped. Then, quickly pointing her wand at the birds that were still in the air, she cast (this time out loud), "Oppugno!", to send them flying towards Henry.

| H: 300 m: 258 f: 30 Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent Oh, his plan for distraction worked. Henry wasn't smiling exactly for that reason, but more because he often found laughing to be contagious. Or at least brought a smile to his face in this instance. But he knew that the tickling would soon wear off or that Rula would do something to counteract the spell, so he was still on his guard.
Wait... did she use a non-verbal spell? Henry hadn't heard anything so he would assume so. He had been practicing non-verbal spells much of this term so he knew how much focus that took. There was only one he could manage at all himself. But he was impressed that she could gather that much focus while laughing. Maybe he'd ask her for some tips after their duel.
But he didn't have much time to think about that as his own conjured birds were now being used against him! That was pretty smart. The featherlight charm he had cast on himself earlier helped keep him light on his feet as he moved back away from the quickly moving birds, giving him enough room to cast Finite. Not only did the conjured birds stop attacking him, but they ceased to exist as well.
And since he had luck before with a distraction using a combination of spells, he tried for a similar strategy. He first shot purple firecrackers to one side of her, then followed with, "Levicorpus!"

| h: 339 | m: 286 | f: 25 Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia Watching the birds fly toward Henry, Rula braced herself for whatever he might cast next...and the birds disappeared before they could make contact. A little disappointing that it hadn't totally worked, but that was okay. He was a good opponent so far! And having a good opponent to duel against was always best.
The purple firecrackers, aimed at one side, made her step toward the other side - and since she was already in motion, she dove out of the way of the second spell too. "Melofors!" She quickly cast back at Henry, still on the floor from her dive, immediately followed by an "Orbis!" aimed at him too. And then she quickly got back on her feet.

| H: 300 m: 218 f: 30 Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent So his distraction tactic didn't completely work this time, but Henry thought he was at least keeping Rula on her toes as she had to move quickly to avoid both of his cast spells. In fact, he hadn't completely expected her to be on the floor and it took him an extra second to react to her retaliation.
He took an exaggerated step to the side to avoid her Melofors. But in doing that, he nearly lost his balance as he miscalculated with the effects of the featherlight charm on him still in effect. As he tried to right himself, Henry felt the strange sensation of slowly being sucked into the floor, having gotten hit with Orbis. "Whoa!" Never experiencing that spell personally, he looked down at himself a moment, wondering where his body might end up if he didn't stop sinking. Quickly pulling himself out of those thoughts, he cast Finite on himself. "Wow, that was really weird," he laughed to himself as he pulled his feet out of the floor. Still chuckling, he quickly flicked his wand at Rula and cast Fulgari, hoping she wasn't quite ready for it.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Alexander River Hirsch Gryffindor Third Year Hogwarts RPG Name: -- x11 x11
| urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse The reason for this pairing? He wanted to give Mr Whittebrook a bit of a challenge that wasn't just a Gryffindor he happened to be around a lot. And who better than Miss Botros, someone who was adept at duelling and had come first for her year?
The duel was off and it wasn't long before Hirsch found himself raising his eyebrows. The Featherlight Charm? Was Charlotte Kettleburn watching this? He glanced behind him and over at the stands to check before looking back at the pair. It was probably a good thing that the lighting was adjusted so that the duellers didn't get distracted by the people watching.
The duel continued and, in all honesty, the man was glad that he'd paired the two up together. The amount of exceptional spells being thrown out, in a duel setting no less, made him feel quite proud. Especially that non-verbal spell! He had to remember to congratulate Miss Botros for that one.
When the duel came to an end, Hirsch cast a magical shield between the pair, saving Miss Botros from being wrapped up in luminous cords. "I have to say," he started, making his way to the pair, "Those were some exceptional spells used. I'm proud of how advanced your spellwork has gotten." Both of them. "There can only be one winner so, after some careful consideration, the title goes to you, Mr Whittebrook. Congratulations!" Smile. "And a very well done, Miss Botros, especially on that non-verbal spell." Needless to say, he was proud. Stats: Henry Whittebrook: 78.11% Rula Botros: 75.72%
