Harriet was really excited for her next duel of the term. Duelling was one of her favourite things in the world to do, and to be honest it was a nice distraction from all of the stuff that was happening in the school at the moment. So now she was going to focus on her duel, and hopefully win it. She wanted to work her way up the duelling table, wanting to try and get to that number one spot.
Her second duel was going to be against Junia. She felt quite confident. She'd duelled with Junia before, so she kind of knew what was going to do. She just hoped that she could win. She needed to win so that she could move up the duelling table. She smiled at Junia, bowing before taking the stance for duelling. This was going to be good.
She began by sending a Cornflake Skin Spell at Junia, followed by the Bat-Bogey Hex. That would do for now.

She didn't like feeling like a loser. She also didn't like letting people down. Sadly, the first duel had caused both things to happen and Junia felt the weight of that leading up to this duel. Now she had added incentive to win. She'd been first in her year last term, for Merlin's sake. She could do this, she just needed to remember who she was- a Botros. A Botros didn't give up and didn't give in. This was going to be a battle. It was.
After the paces and the bowing-both which she payed little mind to as she was already gearing up for her first move-the third year cast a Feather-light Charm on herself. Just in time, too, as the first spell was already headed right for her. She ducked, feeling how quickly her own spell had started to work, and popped right back up to cast a "Protego!" Her shield blocked the hex, though it didn't hold for long. Maybe because of how quickly her mind was shifting from one move to the next. This was like a high speed chest match and her opponent wasn't going to go easy on her, it seemed. "Serpensortia!" The snake she'd conjured landed right at the feet of her friend and Junia just hoped that it'd cause Hattie enough trouble to give the Slytherin an upper hand.

Harriet adored duelling. It was a great thing. Though she was starting to feel more competitive now. She wanted to win. She wanted to be one of the best duellers, if not the best dueller in the school. She figured that wasn't very realistic though, and so she aimed to try and at least be better in her year. She could work on being the best in the school when she was a little older. But for now she just needed to concentrate on trying to win this duel.
She frowned, not happy with how Junia had missed her spells. She needed to work on a better aim, or have a better combination. Oh. A snake. It threw Harriet a little, but not a lot, and she instantly took a step to the side to avoid the snake touching her. She wanted to give herself some space between that snake and herself, so that it would not touch her at all. She did not need that to happen. She couldn't lose the duel so soon.
Now for the spells. "finite" She cast almost instantly, wanting to get rid of that snake. It wasn't that she was scared, she just didn't want to get hurt. Now more attacking spells. She cast Melofors and then followed it up with the Ventus charm. Hopefully the quickness might get one of the spells to hit it's target.

Junia had read that somewhere-like maybe on a park bench or written on the wall in the loo in one of the restaurants in Diagon Alley-and it felt very true in this moment. She was constantly moving, anticipating, and ready to react to whatever Hattie decided to throw her way. It was easier now, too, thanks to magic. Like when the Hufflepuff tried to turn her head into the pumpkin, she juuuuust missed the Slytherin. It was the closest call yet, but Junia was going to consider it a win.
What was not a win was the fact that though being lighter made it easier to move and react quickly, it made it incredibly hard to withstand the gust of wind that was now pushing her backwards. She staggered a bit before she got her footing and the momentary setback was enough to make the thirteen year old furrow her brow. "Flipendo!" The brunette said loudly and clearly, focusing all her energy on the blonde. She followed up quickly with a "Gaudeo," which she said with just as much force. The combination was a one-two punch, and she had felt the power of them as she said them, which was AWESOME.

Harriet felt quite good. But she needed to do better. She was bored of losing duels, or not having them be interested. So she was determined for this one to be better. either that or she needed to learn some new spells. She needed that anyway. They tended to duel the same people, so if she kept using the same spells she would be easy to predict. So she would need to get some new spells before her third duel. Being predictable was not good.
She got a bit distracted though, and found herself being pushed back by a charm that Junia had cast. Opps. She needed to respond quickly. Thinking back to her last duel, and how she had defended Hattie quickly cast "Protego Fianto duri". She knew that was a good defence spell, which would hopefully give her a little bit of an advantage in the duel. She could not lose. She was bored of not winning any of her duels.
And now she needed to aim a spell back at Junia. Hopefully one she wouldn't be expecting. Aiming her wand at Junia's hands, she cast "Furnunculus." Hopefully that work out for now. Surely would be hard to cast spells with boils on the hand. Hattie was content with that for now.

Seeing Hattie knocked back by her spell felt good, really good, even if there were some conflicting emotions thrown in there having to do with the fact that they were on good terms outside of this arena. They were, and she liked the Hufflepuff well enough, but maybe not as much as she liked winning. She needed this. Her family name was involved, didn't the blonde see? She needed a win.
...Except her spell working was a very short lived victory as the third year suddenly felt her skin changing, SPOTS surfacing, something she hadn't yet had to deal with. HER PERFECT SKIN! THE SKIN SHE SPENT AGES CARING FOR. POR-CE-LAIN SKIN. Anger surged inside her and despite the discomfort she was feeling, and relief that there were no mirrors in sight, the thirteen year old called out, "Immobulus" in combination with the Homing Spell and waited. WAITED to see that spell work because no one-NO ONE-messed with her skin.
...And it hadn't even occurred to her that she could just get rid of said spots herself with a simple finite. OOPS.

Harriet was feeling pretty confident, about her shield charm anyway. It had that nice blue sheen, so she could tell that it was working. That made her happy, she wanted to do good. She wanted to win this duel. Because well she needed to. She hadn't done very well for the last couple of years, and so she wanted to do well. She got along pretty well with Junia, but she still wanted to beat her. Nobody came into a duel to lose, so she was going to do all that she could to win. Hopefully her bumper shield would help with that.
She had to bit her lip, to stop herself from laughing as she saw that spots were appearing on Junia's skin. She didn't want to laugh, because she could see that Junia was already looking a little angry. Opps. Sorry? It was only a duel! But Hattie was glad to have her bumper shield that that they learnt, because it meant that she was safe from the spells that Junia used.
Now to use her own. She moved, quickly casting the bat-bogey hex, before following it up with the Herbifors. That would do. She was happy with that.

| urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse The level of concentration and determination in this room was at a high and Hirsch could feel it. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing and simply meant that the two girls were passionate about duelling but, well, it was noticeable. That was all.
As the duel progressed, the man couldn't help but notice a few things that made him smile. For one, Fianto Duri was being put into practice again. And for another, the level of spellwork had advanced somewhat. Both girls weren't just using basic spells for this duel, they were going all out. And Hirsch loved it. Keep it up!
Or, well, not.
When the time of the duel was up, the Defence Professor struck up a shield between the two girls before considering it safe to head out of his safety zone. "Excellent! Really excellent! I'm pleased with the level of spellwork here." And that no one had thrown up this time. "It's a very close call but the winner of this duel is you, Miss Botros. Congratulations! And well done, Miss Paton." Smile. Stats: Harriet Paton: 73% Junia Botros: 78%
