| | Greenhouses Image by: Pixie The Greenhouses are all kept neat and tidy by Professor Myers. Each one is evenly spaced out in their residing spot outside of the castle. There are five greenhouses, all of them done up to Professor Myer's idea of organization, which carefully follows past organization of the greenhouses with just a few changes. The air is a little crisper out here, students.
Greenhouses one through three are open to student aid and experimentation. If you're careful and confident, you can feel free to tend to the Venemous Tentaculas in Greenhouse Three or engage in a playful tug-of-war with the Devil's Snare in the Greenhouse Two. If you traipse through each greenhouse, you will identify almost every sort of magical plant that has ever been taught at Hogwarts. Bubotubers, puffapods, fanged geraniums, biting toadstools, flesh-eating shrubs, and so on..... and that's not even mentioning the assortment of Muggle flowers in Greenhouse One!
Each greenhouse has little shelves for cute or ordinary pots, as well as racks of tools and any other necessities you may need in the large corner cabinets. There's plenty of lab tables for setting up your own tinkering station, and sinks to clean up in too. Don't forget to add to the compost pile behind the greenhouses when you're done with your trimming! OOC: Here's a basic guide of what you might find in each greenhouse; please remember to play realistically based on your character's age and skill level! Current Listing of Plants Available to Student Care/Experimentation Greenhouse One: the basics- Any and all mundane flowers
- Bouncing Bulbs
- Fanged Geraniums
- Flutterbies
- Honking Daffodils
- Puffapods
- Color Changing Roses
Greenhouse Two: plants commonly used in potion-making- Abyssinian Shrivelfigs
- Bubotubers

- Various Mundane Herbs & Fungi
Greenhouse Three: for upperclassmen to learn- Flesh-Eating Fir

Greenhouse Four: BE CAREFUL!- Devil's Snare

- Bunbury's Marvelous Malignant Gillyweed Maze [from Lesson Two of Term 22]

It could for all she knew drag up painful memories. "I'm glad," Laurel responded with a smile. "I remember cutting my finger in herbology class when I went here years ago. It caused some blood to drip from it unlike yours and it actually made the boy beside me faint." It had been something they had laughed at after with the healer. "You've got a gifted sister. Does your sister that taught you that handy bandage spell go here?" Laurel queried curiously. She didn't think she had encountered another Penrose in the short time that she had taught here but it was a big school and not everyone took divination. "That's wise of you Elle, everyone doesn't keep their pet under loving supervision, so that's very good of you." Laurel praised. If Jordan knew then he'd share in her point of view. Pet care was after all his field of expertise and loving interest.
Shaking her head she replied. "No I wasn't looking for figs for a snack, but for a potential lesson. Do you think i should save some for eating too?" She hadn’t thought her nearly offhand comment would have created any questions. By now, Elle had figured it would have been obvious that she was interested in herbology, and that not all plants in the greenhouses were exactly benign. Accidents happened, and not all of them were simple pricks from thorns. But then, Professor Vance hadn’t questioned it either, so she decided it wasn’t a big deal. Plus, there was the evidence that accidents happened. “That can happen. Obviously a little blood doesn’t bother me quite that much.” She’d never fainted. She didn’t remember anyone else fainting in herbology either.
She’d nodded at the compliment to Ashe, too. “She is. And she did, after she found out I was interested in learning healing. She said she thought I ought to know it,” she replied. “She’s a couple years older than me. Seven years younger than my oldest sister.” In case the professor was curious about that.
“Well he depends on me, so I feel like I shouldn’t take advantage of that trust,” she continued. She’d never thought of her protectiveness of Marvin as wise, although it had logic behind it. She cared about him, so she wanted him to be safe. Not only that, she didn’t want to lose anyone else close to her.
The answer to the fig question received a bit of a surprised reaction from her. Confused, too. “There’s a method of divination that involves figs?,” she asked, blinking. “If you like eating them, then why not keep some for a snack?”

"Hi, Samuel!" he supposed he could call HIM Samuel while SAM TYLER was in the mix. "Two Sam's!" he grinned. " How funny. Are you two friends?" he asked, and he immediately started to chuckle. " Sam and SAM!" still amused by it. "What are you two doing in here anyway? Hanging out?" he asked in that 'dad trying to be cool' sorta' way. Quote:

Sam looked at other Sam doubtfully. Myers seemed WAY too enthusiastic about them being here. Together. Although she was relieved he'd opted for Samuel to identify between them, and not Samantha. At least ONE professor knew she HATED the latter. Maybe she should persuade the Herbology professor to share that snippet with the Divination professor.
As for what they were doing? "He's exercising Taco," the Ravenclaw nodded towards the lizard. "And I'm looking for a specific flower." Santa!Gaston was getting exhausted from delivering candy grams alll over the school and searching the grounds for more recipients. Still, he managed to keep a Santa-ish smile as he approached the greenhouses. "HO, HO, HO!" he called out as he spotted Paul and Miss Tyler... and Mr. Chevalier was there too. The boy got a friendly smile from Santa!Gaston. "Santa's brought presents!" He set the big red sack he was carrying down and pulled out a candy cane. "Here's one for Miss Tyler!" He gave the Ravenclaw a candy cane with the following message: Quote: To: Sam Tyler
Sorry we fought... I love you. You're MY best friend.
From: Dora Then he reached into the sack for another candy cane. "and here's one for Professor Myers!" He handed the candy to the older man; attached was a card that read: Quote: To: Professor Paul
You are very kind.
With your guidance and friendship.
I'm glad I know you.
You master of plants!
With your zen meditation.
You help me feel safe.
This haiku is yours!
To say "thanks" for what you do
From kind words to joy.
From: Your favorite Gryffindor Santa!Gaston reached back into the bag for another candy cane, but there were none left... or at least no more to be delivered here. His smile faded; he didn't want Mr. Chevalier to feel left out. There had to be something he could do. An idea suddenly occurred to him, and he removed the card from the candy gram he'd received from Rose and was still carrying around and gave the candy to the boy. "And here's one for you, Mr. Chevalier; this one is from Santa himself!" he said before turning to leave. "Merry Christmas to you all!"

Of all the things you might have expected to find Aslan Evans doing in greenhouse three knitting was probably not one of them, and yet there the Gryffindor was, standing before the table of teenaged mandrakes with a red ball of yarn coiled loosely around her ankles and knitting needles floating before her with the beginnings of a tiny sweater in it's teeth.
The mandrakes were wriggling in their pots and soon enough it would be time to repot them for the final time, and after that would come the harvest but for now Aslan was focused on keeping them warm and comfortable.
Hence the sweater.
She hasn't yet realized that she could have simply transfigured the sweaters, or perhaps she had and forgotten. Aslan Evans (as expected) was not very good at remembering unimportant details.

Rooney was still stuck on whether he wanted to continue his study of Herbology after Hogwarts and had been frequenting the greenhouses often to be around everything he was potentially going to be with for another three years post-graduation. Today, he was actually just looking for the notebook that he had misplaced when in here yesterday. As he cracked open the door, he was greeted with the sight of someone knitting. Honestly, he thought he might have just walked into Aunt Els' house, because that was normally what she was doing whenever he visited.
Boring old ladies. "I never thought mandrakes were great knitting buddies, honestly."

Boring old ladies. "I never thought mandrakes were great knitting buddies, honestly." She heard him, but didn't look his way. Aslan was trying to focus. Knitting with magic was harder than it looked and the focus she once had (the ability to drown out everyone and everything else) was gone, meaning this hard task was edging closer impossible.
The clicking of the needles stopped abruptly, they were still suspended in air but they moved no longer. It was beyond frustrating and with a harsh flick of her worst and wand the needles jumped and fell to the floor.
"......they're not. It's obviously why this isn't working." Aslan calmly said, half turning to face her year-mate Rooney Brownyn. She raised the cypress wand again, and once more the needles rose up and began their slow work.

His reply came out of his mouth before he'd even stopped to think about it, something which he had been trying to do now more than anything. "Then why do it here then?" It had been an innocent probe, but he wasn't very good at wording himself correctly with Gryffindor girls. And that was what he was faced with right now. A Gryffindor girl.. One that he didn't know all too well, and honestly did not have the intention of getting to know. Introducing a new Gryffindor girl into his life would be disastrous on alllllll scenarios. Yikes. "Isolate yourself. Drown them out with magic. Or increase your focus." Magic had helped him in those situations before. Maybe not knitting around mandrakes, buttttttttt...distracting enough.

| J/Kitty Wowza! Though he was only fifteen, Levi was already in that stage of his education where he felt it prudent to busy himself with worries about his future. looming not quite so distantly in the future, he supposed this was only to be expected. He liked books just fine (this was perhaps an understatement) and his wand work for spell-casting was a actually fairly decent, but he often felt that everyone had sort of made up their minds very early on what they wanted to pursue after Hogwarts while he could barely make up his mind for dessert.
To be clear, he was not actually worried about his current, relatively aimless path yet but he was also as stubborn as any human being could possible be. If he REALLY set his mind to it, Levi was certain he'd be able to cause himself a rash induced by the sheer stress of having no clue what he wanted to be outside of the safe haven Hogwarts provided. A bout of rash was not ideal, but it was better than just lounging about while everyone else chose what subjects to keep or drop depending on what they wanted to do after school. Though he had to admit lounging wasn't such a bad idea. Generally speaking, he enjoyed it.
Levi shook himself. This was not the point. He'd come to the greenhouses to see if Herbology was perhaps his calling. It wasn't like he was bad at it. And if the weather was nice (and it rarely was in Scotland, if he was being honest) working outdoors could be pretty cool. "Hey buddy," Levi said to a flutterby bush. Bushes. "Or buddies? Sorry. Didn't see the rest of you there. Guess I need a new prescription for my glasses. I've had these for like three years already, so it's time, probably."

In between some of the mandrake pots, there was a blinding flash of light. It brought a hole in the fabric of time and space, one that grew bigger and bigger. It wasn't long before the portal was big enough... big enough to take a victim.
The Ravenclaw was sucked up by the portal and transported to the other world. The hole flickered before disappearing, leaving the Gryffindor behind.

It was photography time on this lovely Saturday morning in the Greenhouses. While she had taken pictures of the Greenhouses for her albums for the end of term feast, never before had she actually taken pictures of individual plants - just the buildings and general pictures of all the plants together. This year she'd be including many of the cool plants in her album, along with the proper name in both English and Latin. Click! Click!
The Gothic girl pause when she heard a boy talking nearby. Turning, she turned to watch as he appeared to talk to some bushes nearby. Or maybe there was someone hiding in them? "Are you talking with the bushes?" she asked only half-jokingly, approaching to gaze curiously at the bushes. |

Levi was putting on protective gloves by the time he became aware he was not alone anymore. This was not necessarily unpleasant as he always did enjoy company but it was a distraction he'd not been expected. Nevertheless, he did manage to raise his eyebrows at the intruder who didn't even bother to say hello.
She was familiar. As in his same year familiar. Levi continued to put on his gloves, eyes landing first on the badge and then on the camera. Interesting combination even if the manners needed some work, perhaps. He thought he could give a name to the face, too; prefects were just too unavoidable to not know. "Maybe I was, Kitty." He was ninety five percent sure that was her name. "Were you taking pictures of me?" He was mostly joking. "I heard the camera go off." He had not, actually, but it felt like a safe bet.

In most pictures he'd taken Levi had always been looking around, elsewhere, distracted by the environment. In the rest he'd sported a smile that showed just how painfully aware of himself he'd been right in that moment. He finished shoving in his hand into the glove. His fingers wiggled. "Do you have plans of publishing it, eventually?"

"That's interesting. I also hear playing music helps them grow - especially classical music. At least that's what my mom says." Not that her mom actually did that with their garden, but she remembered her telling her that that was something Muggles and wizards agreed on when it came to plants. "I've never investigated it, though. It would be interesting if true, since plants growing in the forest don't have people to talk to them or music."
She didn't blame him for not wanting his picture taken. Maybe he was a little bit shy. "I've started asking permission before taking someone's picture," she said as she carefully picked up her camera. "When I first came to Hogwarts I would take pictures of EVERYTHING. But I don't want to be sued or anything after leaving Hogwarts, so I'm developing good habits." Katherine was the one who (indirectly) gave her the idea to ask permission. "I always show the photos I've taken at the end of term feast. Um, would you like to see some?" |

Um, would you like to see some?" "Fair point." Levi had actually forgotten he was supposed to get the rest of the instruments needed for gardening. This was the sort of conversation he lived for. Which sounded a little dramatic but it was also sort of partially true. "Do you think maybe the sheer nature of the plants makes their growth pattern different, then? There is so much magic in these grounds, surely not even the grass has remained unaffected." Levi actually tapped his chin with one of his gloved index fingers. "Or I suppose it could just be the centaurs doing all the talking."
Oh. Right. The camera. Levi zoomed in on the object again, head tilting to one side as Kitty explained her project. "Asking first seems like the polite thing to do," He conceded. And also appreciated, for obvious reasons. "But isn't it a little difficult for you to capture people for who they really are if they're always posing?"
He was unclear if Kitty was offering to show him her pictures in hopes of getting a constructive critique and Levi hoped that was not the case. He did not feel good criticizing anyone's hard work, no matter how atrocious it might be. But he also knew that sometimes a photographer's picture told you more about themselves than of the subject at hand, and that appealed to him, so he said, "Yes, of course," as he moved closer, expectantly.

"Hmmm, interesting theory," she said about his theory on magic in the soil. "Come to think of it, I'd be surprised if magic HADN'T seeped into the other plants. Are you good at Herbology?" It wasn't her best subject, but she did like it. She took out her camera and snapped a picture of the bushes.
Ooh, he wanted to see her photos! Luckily, she had one of her compilation albums of some of her favorites with her inside her bag. "Excuse me dear," she said, not to Levi but to her quick quotes quill. It floated out of her bag and waited for her to take out the album before going back inside. "Actually I'm kind of annoyed that the headmistress took away some of my photos," she admitted, folding the album on her lap. "Then again, I said she could, so I probably shouldn't complain. They were phots of the 'other Hogwarts' through the portal. It's too bad I can't show you. But that's not the only scary thing I have. Here, look at this." And she showed him a zoomed up photo of Ursula Black. "I still have nightmares about her trying to eat us," she said with a shudder.
Next she showed him photos of Penelope and Hady, the past two head girls. "I love both of them and I miss them dearly," she confessed. "We still write, of course. Do you miss anyone?" "I'm really sorry," she said then. "But I've forgotten your name. That's really embarrassing but I just can't remember it." |

This was not enough, probably, but he'd just have to work harder for his Herbology OWL. Levi did not like to fail and he did not like the feeling of not giving his best at everything he did. It was also a very good encouragement that his mother did not accept failing or giving up, either. "I just like reading a lot." He went on, which was actually a good explanation for most things he knew about.
He was going to ask why the headmistress had taken any of her pictures, but was immediately too enthralled by Ursula Black. It was--"That's terrifying," He said, though he didn't sound like it was. He moved even closer to Kitty, trying to get a better look. "Do you have any close ups?" One day curiosity was going to kill him. It was fortunate he'd yet to come close to one of the supposed portals; Levi would have jumped into one himself just to figure out what lay inside.
Kitty's musings caught his attention again, and he found himself nodding along to her, though Levi could not say he remembered the head girls. He did not have problems with authority, but it was very true that he often made a point of staying away from older people who possessed it. "I guess I miss my parents," Levi said, quite plainly and without a trace of embarrassment. "And I suppose next year when my brother graduates I'll miss him, but other than that..." He trailed off, gave her shrug. It was a little unfortunate, but he didn't spend sufficient time socializing with people not related to him to actually miss them. But it was a work in progress. Which explained why Kitty didn't know his name. His slight smile carried only a hint of embarrassment. "Uh, it's Levi."

"This is the closest I have of her, if I'd gotten any closer she'd have eaten me!" Which...she did try to do. Twice, in fact. "I took this one from behind a boulder as she was about teach Divination, but her evil little crow spotted me and next thing I knew she was dragging me towards the cauldron." She shuddered again as she remembered that fateful day. "Everyone else thought she was just acting, except for Haddie. So she froze both of us first, before tossing that poor Hufflepuff boy into the cauldron. And then next year she came back and literally dragged me and the same Hufflepuff boy (Brody, I think he was) into the forest and tried to eat us again. Two very close calls for us, but thankfully she'd now rotting in Azkaban." And it wasn't at all mean of her to be happy about that, considering that Ursula was a would-be child eater. "Of course now, there's something else on the loose," she said grimly. 'We didn't get a close look of whatever was in the portal, but I have a feeling it wanted to eat us too. What do you think it was? Not the creature, exactly, I mean that place. I don't understand how something like that could even exist. Do you think a powerful wizard made it, with the same magic used to make the Room of Requirement?"
She smiled when he talked about his family and introduced himself."I miss my parents too, though less than I miss my friends since I'll be able to see them again very soon. My mom's a witch and my Dad's a Muggle. It's very nice to meet you, Levi." Whether or not he agree, she now considered him her newest friend. |

My mom's a witch and my Dad's a Muggle. It's very nice to meet you, Levi." Whether or not he agree, she now considered him her newest friend. Levi leaned against one of the workstations as Kitty went on with her tale, eyes widening as the story progressed until his mouth had formed a perfect 'O.' He did not say anything for a moment once she was done, but did find it in him to grin when she giggled, because, well--wasn't that what he was supposed to do in those cases? His experience making girls giggle was very limited, after all. Were giggles supposed to be always acknowledged or could they be disregarded depending on the situation?
Anyway. "The good news, Kitty," He began, once the shock had worn off, "is that if you ever have kids then that'll be some story you'll have for them, right?" She should totally try writing a book about it, too. Maybe a tell-all or some kind of autobiography? Most people loved those, Levi included. "Hmm." The portal. He pretended to be thoughtful and also mournful. Truth be told, Levi felt bad that people had disappeared but he didn't feel that bad that he wasn't prone to speculation or even a conspiracy theory or two. But he didn't want to sound too eager to share. "Not sure how it could be formed, exactly. But, honestly, I think it might be in another, uh, plane of existence."

Were they ever going to get this portal thing figured out?

Were they ever going to get this portal thing figured out? Isa knew that she wasn’t supposed to go wandering her around on her own, and really she wasn’t. She had stuck around at the end of her herbology lesson to check on some plants of hers that were in the greenhouse. Caring for her plants was one of the things that calmed Isa. With all of the stress and sadness of the recent events, Isa needed to just do something that made her happy. It was difficult to maintain a positive attitude when your friends and classmates were mysteriously disappearing. Not even Isa Wright could be happy all of the time. Everybody experienced sad feelings at some point. It was completely normal to be sad when your friends were missing or hurt. Besides all of that, Isa was going through her own changes in life. Growing up wasn’t always easy. There were good things to be found everywhere in life though, so Isa tried to focus on finding the positives.
Isa was trimming dead leaves from the flutterby bushes when she noticed Juno peeking in the greenhouse. She smiled and waved to her prefect friend. ”Hi Juno! What are you up to?” It was good to see Juno. Isa liked having friends around to talk to, and she would need somebody to walk back to the castle with once she was done here.

Juno was thinking about her summer plans with Leon. He was supposed to be meeting her family when they went to their house in France this summer. She was running through all the possible outcomes in her head when she heard a young girls voices. She looked around, and then smiled when she found the second years face. "Oh, Isa! Hi! I am just coming back from dropping off some first years at Herbology." She smiled, and walked into the greenhouse toward her young friend and housemate. "What are you up to all alone in the greenhouses?" She gave her a pointed glance then a wink. This lock down was hard for everyone, but at least Professor Myers was close enough by. It was a good thing she was here though. Wouldn't want the younger girl to get in trouble for being by herself.

Huh, interesting. "I didn't learn how to prune Flutterby Bushes until fourth year. You must be very good at Herbology!" Oh, the poor dear did think she was in trouble! "Don't worry Isa," Juno said with a smile, "I was just joking. You are perfectly fine. Professor Myers isn't far off and you are right I am here now. Well..."Herbology isn't my best subject, but I love Professor Myers. He is a wonderful teacher, even for those of us that don't have a particularly good green thumb." She said with a chuckle, "So I am not sure if you really want me to help, but I would be more than glad to sit and talk with you while you work. Or hand you things...whatever." She said with a smile.

Despite all of the strange things that happened to students, Isa loved Hogwarts. She would never leave her friends.
Fourth year? Huh. Isa didn’t usually think about what the normal progression of herbology experience was. All she knew was that she wasn’t allowed to handle flesh eaters or other dangerous plants until she was older. Mum had never let her work with anything really dangerous, but she had learned a few safety tips for what to do if she ever encountered dangerous plants. ”My mum is a herbologist, and we have some flutterby bushes at home. She showed me how to prune them. Flutterbies are one of my favorite plants. There have always been loads of plants around at home.” She had learned a lot of things about caring for plants from her mum. Flutterbies were one of Isa’s favorite magical plants. Then again, most things that could be found in her garden at home were one of her favorite plants, and her house was literally so covered in plants that you couldn’t see the actual house. Vines creeped up the walls of the house, forming a thick blanket that completely covered the brick. The uncovered windows and doors were the only signs other than the shape of the building that there was a house beneath all of the vines. Flowers grew up in the spaces between the stepping stones that formed the path to the front door. The garden was so thick with vegetation that it seemed to be a jungle. Every plant in that garden was carefully managed and properly cared for, no matter what it might look like. The rows of plants were organized to make sure that each plant had the space and the type of soil that it needed to thrive. Isa loved everything about her home.
Isa smiled when Juno reassured her that she wasn’t in trouble. ”If you don’t want to help, sitting and talking would be great.” Isa gave Juno a look that said please don’t leave me here all alone because I’m not supposed to be alone and people are disappearing which is super scary. Well, even if Juno wasn’t as crazy as herbology as Isa was, it was nice to have Juno here for company. Who didn’t love Professor Myers? ”I love Professor Myers! He always has creative ways of teaching and is generally kind and caring. Not only is he a great professor, but he’s also an awesome head of house.” Of course Juno would know all about how wonderful Professor Myers was. ”What sort of things are you interested in?” School subjects, hobbies, other interests, Isa wanted to hear about whatever Juno liked. It was always good to get to know people by finding out what sort of things they were interested in. That was how she made friends.

Her mother was at one time in a band but was now a house wife and a very proficient healer, even though it wasn't her profession. She just had a really good knack at healing. "Oh! Well that must be really fun! I bet you always have tons of cool and interesting plants around!" Juno smiled at the younger girl, glad to be keeping her company, and sat down on a stool across from her.
Honestly, Juno really didn't want to prune but she would love to sit and have a chat. She never really got to chat with anyone outside of the prefects, her sister...well and of course Leon...but she could talk to him forever and still be happy. "Well, you name the subject and we shall talk, because trust me you don't want my help." She said with a chuckle.
When Isa started talking about Paul, Juno nodded in agreement. "He is a wonderful person and teacher. He gets a little scatter brained and overwhelmed at times but he is just the best ever. We couldn't have gotten a better Head of House." That man cared so much about their house and his students. It wasn't surprising that he was made deputy Headmaster; he completely deserved it!
Oh, that was a good question! "Well, I enjoy reading, singing, playing guitar and piano, kickboxing, yoga, dueling, karate, MMA, self defense studies, magic, my boot collection, and of course my boyfriend." She said with a grin and a wink. She was sure her interests weren't normal for girls but she didn't care. "What about you? What are you interested in?" She smiled at the younger girl, resting her elbow on the table, and then her chin on her palm.
