The Greenhouses are all kept neat and tidy by Professor Myers. Each one is evenly spaced out in their residing spot outside of the castle. There are five greenhouses, all of them done up to Professor Myer's idea of organization, which carefully follows past organization of the greenhouses with just a few changes. The air is a little crisper out here, students.
Greenhouses one through three are open to student aid and experimentation. If you're careful and confident, you can feel free to tend to the Venemous Tentaculas in Greenhouse Three or engage in a playful tug-of-war with the Devil's Snare in the Greenhouse Two. If you traipse through each greenhouse, you will identify almost every sort of magical plant that has ever been taught at Hogwarts. Bubotubers, puffapods, fanged geraniums, biting toadstools, flesh-eating shrubs, and so on..... and that's not even mentioning the assortment of Muggle flowers in Greenhouse One!
Each greenhouse has little shelves for cute or ordinary pots, as well as racks of tools and any other necessities you may need in the large corner cabinets. There's plenty of lab tables for setting up your own tinkering station, and sinks to clean up in too. Don't forget to add to the compost pile behind the greenhouses when you're done with your trimming!
OOC: Here's a basic guide of what you might find in each greenhouse; please remember to play realistically based on your character's age and skill level!

She hadn’t been able to forget the fire seeds, but then Elle had also known that there wasn’t r5eally any way to check in her bush without breaking the rules and likely getting caught. She didn’t trust in her luck even if she knew her dorm mates would tell her otherwise. She really did want6 to listen to Nat, Kelly and Echo, but it wasn’t what she was used to. But then, she also wasn’t used to being free to do what she liked, which had led to her heading outside while the weather was still relatively nice and walking over to the greenhouses.
Marvin was with her, and the first thing she had done once she’d decided to visit Greenhouse One was to go set her hedgehog down on one of the lab tables nearest to the Color-Changing Roses. They weren’t the fire seeds, but she figured they were a good alternative. Safer, for sure, and she went over to check on the nearest bush to see if it needed any fertilizer or anything.

Finding time to exercise and breath in some fresh air on the breathtaking grounds was something that Professor Vance had to plan with her busy teaching schedule. Today she had seen from her tower office that the weather outside was relatively nice as they steadily approached winter and Christmas.
Laurel put on a red coat and stuck some gloves in her pockets as she headed down the many stairs and out to pay Paul's trusted greenhouses a visit. If she was in luck maybe her plant loving colleague had some laurel leaves, sage and figs that she could borrow for one of her next classes.
Coming into green house one she soon happened upon Elle Penrose and her pet hedgehog by the colour changing roses. Going closer to the duo with a kind smile pursing her lips Laurel greeted. "Good day Elle," gaze dropping to the hedgehog she asked "And who might this cute creature be?"

Looking closely at the roses, Elle decide they looked as if a little fertilizer might not be a bad idea. At least, the one she’d been standing nearest looked that way, and after a glance to make sure her hedgehog was still safely on the table, she went over to one of the cabinets to collect some fertilizer. She could water the bushes without help, but so far she was unaware of a spell to conjure fertilizer. Filling a small pail with it, she returned to the bush and started working with it carefully.
At least she’d thought she was being careful, until the sound of someone greeting her startled her and she pricked a finger on a thorn. “Oh, hello Professor Vance,” she said, turning to give the professor a smile even as she brought her finger up to her mouth. After making sure it was clean of fertilizer, dirt, or anything other than the small injury.
Her attention turned back to the lab table at the professor’s question, too. “That’s Marvin. He’s usually friendly.” Although said hedgehog looked about as surprised as his mistress was by the new arrival.
“Were you looking for any particular plants?” She thought she’d ask. As it was, she figured the roses could wait for a few minutes before she went back to them. Even so, she still slipped her wand out and cast a quick bandage spell on her finger, just to be safe.

Sam slid the door open to Greenhouse One, and had a quick look around on tippy-toes. She needed to check a certain younger Gryffindor wasn't here. It'd be rather the coincidence if she were, but the Ravenclaw still wanted to check before she went about her very important business.
Business that was totally extra-curricular, yes. And not at all personal with the next Hogsmeade weekend in mind. Cough.
Satisfied she was alone for the moment, she started to wander among the mundane plants, looking for one in particular. She was pretty sure it was the wrong season for them to be in bloom, but maybe with a bit of magic she could at least get a small plant started off? Maybe she should have asked Myers' advice first, but who knew what his office might resemble this year.

"I'm sorry Elle, I didn't mean to startle you. Did you prick your finger badly? Does it hurt?" It hadn't been Laurel's intention at all to startle the seventh year girl so much by her arrival that she pricked a finger on a thorn. She hadn't thought that she had been walking soundlessly, but she knew how it was. If your head was elsewhere then you could sometimes not hear other people approach until they were just next to you.
Eyes turning to look at the hedgehog on the lab table she smiled at it before turning to Elle again. "Marvin is a nice name, do you keep him with you in your dorm?" Many did, Laurel knew but some had their pets in Professor Hernandez barn too.
Looking around at the surrounding plants Laurel nodded to Elle. "Yes, i was actually. Do you know if professor Myers keeps sage, figs and laurel leaves in this green house?"
Okay, so trekking out to the blasted greenhouses had been a horrible idea this time of year. If it had not been for the warming charm she would have frozen to death. Possibly lost a limb! Or worse, a FINGER. Fingers were vital.
And yes, she could have taken more time to think about these things, but her eyes were drawn to her fanged geranium. Since she was unable to bring her familiar to school anymore... after 4 terms... she was spending a lot of time with Lola here. Tugging her gloves off with her teeth, she cooed a bit as she reached out to stroke her lovely leaves. "Oh Lola, I've missed you, love," she said unabashedly to the plant. In response, the plant gnashed her teeth and gave what resembled a grin.
And now. Crickets. Dora had a bunch of them for her lovely Lola. Yes she did. Shoving a hand into her bag she began to dig for the container that they were currently housed in.

Taco was in his glory. Or this is what Sam liked to believe. The lizard was probably in his glory, what with all the plants and shrubs to roam around.
The Gryffindor was sitting casually on a large, upside-down terra cotta pot as he half-skimmed his herbology notes, half-watched over his lizard. But then he heard rustling. Rustle, rustle. He turned his head only to see his classmate and fellow Sam. Girl-Sam. "What are you on the hunt for?"
Were these meant to be in any sort of order? She seemed to be getting into magical flowers now, and she turned back to retrace her steps. It'd be disappointing indeed if there were none at all in here.
Sam was so focused on her search that the voice made her jump. She whipped her head round, only to see boy-Sam sitting there on an upturned pot. "A plant," she answered slowly, and somewhat suspiciously. "What are you doing?"

Well, someone was quite jumpy today.
Sam smiled and ever so slightly lifted an eyebrow. Strange girl.
He stood up off the pot and slipped his hands in his pockets. "How precise. What kind of plant?" As for her question, he nodded over to the pot that Taco was currently exploring. "Letting my lizard roam for a bit." His dorm and the inside of his pocket no doubt got rather stuffy for the little creature.

Of anything she could have planned, making a professor feel guilty over something was definitely not on Elle’s top ten lists of things she wanted to have done at Hogwarts. Not that she actually had a list or anything. Either way, she had shaken her head slightly in response to the questions that had come from Professor Vance. “It’s alright. It didn’t hurt too badly,” she replied. She’d probably not been as careful as she ought to have been while dealing with the rosebush anyhow. Plus she hadn’t been paying attention to the chance anyone might have come in. So she was just as much to blame as anyone else.
Her finger was already bandaged anyhow, and she thought it would probably stop bleeding soon. “Mhm,” she continued, nodding a little as she moved closer to the table her hedgehog was on. “I let him get fresh air when I can though too.” It wasn’t as if the dungeons really had a ton of fresh air in them usually. Not to mention the lack of sunlight.
“I think so. There are mundane plants in here anyway so those would probably be here too.” As opposed to the more dangerous/interesting greenhouses. “Don’t figs grow on trees?”

Yes she was jumpy. What of it? She was here on special business, and hadn't anticipated she was sharing the greenhouse.
"A mundane flowering one, yellow petals," she replied shortly. Of course she knew its name, she just didn't feel like saying it aloud. Maybe she should abort the mission and come back later? She gave a slight smile at the exploring lizard though. "Well that's cool. What's 'is name?"

"Maybe daffodils. Or tulips. Or sunflowers." Those were the only mundane, yellow-petaled flowers that came to mind off the top of his head. "I'm sure Astrea would love any of them, so long as they're from you." And yes, there was a slight twitch of a grin at his lips.
He followed her eyes to his pet lizard. "Taco." Taco was his name. Don't wear it out.
She blushed a little at the mention of sunflowers, a cough catching in her throat. Although it got a whole lot worse at his next words. Colour flushed to her cheeks, and she glared at him. "How'd you know about that?"
She hadn't told a soul that's why she was here. Nor had she let slip of their date.
"Taco's cute," she said after a moment, refusing to raise her gaze back to boy-Sam. A flutterby bush had settled in her stomach, and she didn't really know what it meant. It was meant to be their thing, just her and Ast. A trip to Hogsmeade. How many others knew?
With a frown, she turned back to the bench of flowers, starting to work along it once more. "Thyme...thistle...c'mon Myers, throw me a line..."

There was no hiding the flush on her face after that remark. Although paired with it was a glare. Now Sam had only been doing a little good-natured teasing, or mostly good-natured, but he hadn't any intention of getting her upset. "Legilimency?" Or maybe he should have said it was the magic of being Sams. He observed her for a moment or two.
Taco was cute, yes. The name and the lizard. He glanced back over to make sure that the anole hadn't scampered off too far from him and when he looked back, Girl-Sam was busying herself again with flower hunting.
"Really?" Sam raised a doubtful eyebrow. She might have believed him more if he had said it was due to Sams having a telepathic link. The fourth year shook her head lightly. It really didn't, nor shouldn't, matter.
She needed to get back to task. Looking at herbs, though they smelt nice, was not getting her anywhere.
The Ravenclaw couldn't help herself though, and stopped to turn and look at boy-Sam curiously. "Yeh realleh fink she'll like 'em?" It wasn't too much?

Sam shrugged. It was a simple inference given that he knew she was going on that date this weekend, and he otherwise really wouldn't have expected Girl-Sam to be searching out specifically-colored mundane plants. But legilimency would have been more impressive.
When he heard her distinct accent once again, Sam turned back to her. He smiled a bit at what she said. "Without a doubt, as long as it's from you." Astrea struck Sam as the type of person who seemed to feel things very fully, and after having seen how Astrea glowed when speaking about the Ravenclaw, Sam had no doubts that his housemate was very taken with the girl.

Laurel let out a barely audible sigh of relief as Elle's reassurance that her finger didn't hurt too badly. They were in greenhouse one and knowing Paul then there were no plants in here that could be considered poisonous or lethal to the students welfare. A rosebush thorn wasn't anything to get worked up over but Laurel understood if it hurt and throbbed. Fingers were pretty sensitive too. Eyes on Elle she instructed kindly "Let me know if the throbbing worsens, then i'll escort you to see Healer Reed." It was the least she could do considering that she was part to blame.
Elle showed her practicality by using her wand to bandage her finger up nicely in front of Laurel's eyes. "Has Professor Marchand been teaching you healing spells in class?" If he had then it was commendable of him. But Elle could have taught herself too. Shifting her gaze momentarily to the hedgehog again Prof. Vance complimented. "That's good, all creatures need their exercise and fresh air, just like humans. I let my cat roam the castle and grounds."
As talk turned to figs Laurel nodded as her gaze darted around the mundane plants. "Yes, figs grow on trees or large shrubs. Have you eaten figs before?"

A baby daffodil had been CRYING ITS POOR LITTLE EYES OUT earlier, and Paul had done all he could IN the actual Greenhouse. But it still kept crying out. So he had taken it to stay with him overnight just to...give it some extra needed attention. It was almost like having an infant, he supposed, except a plant was NOT a human, but to Paul, they were just as important.
Stroking the daffodil's petals gently, he swept back into Greenhouse one. The honking little guy was currently quiet, very content. It had just needed TLC. And some nutrients he had to hand "feed."
He heard some voices in there They sounded familiar......
"SAM AND SAM!" Paul grinned as he approached. His LOUD booming voice when he said their names woke the little daffodil up and it started to SHRIEEEEEEEK.
Oops.
Paul instantly began to sooooothe it. "So sorry little one!" he whispered.

"Can I do anyfink to 'elp?" She'd even take her fingers out her ears, if necessary.

Elle thought she heard a sigh, but it was so soft she wasn’t positive she’d done so. Besides, the idea that some of the magical plants were just making some noise of their own was entirely possible too. Just not the roses she was still standing near, as they only changed color to her knowledge. Thankfully she hadn’t pricked her finger on a fire rose. “No, it really isn’t that bad. I’ve had worse, actually,” she assured Professor Vance. Although she wouldn’t deny the help if it was necessary.
Plus, the bandage had helped. The question had come as a surprise, though. “My sister taught it to me a year or so ago.” Ashelynn, not Avalon, although she guessed her oldest sister was just as capable with charms. It made her wonder if Professor Marchand knew any Healing charms however. Maybe she’d ask sometime, or she’d ask Healer Reed. She’d smiled when the attention had gone back to her pet, either way. “Marvin wanders around in my dorm or the common room a lot, but I don’t let him outside without my supervision.” He was so little, after all.
The jump from verification that figs grew on trees to eating them was surprising. “I have.” Once or twice. Maybe more. She liked baking with things like figs anyhow. “Were you looking for them for a snack?”

He also winced some as the shrieking emanated from the baby daffodil. Sam attempted to remove the irritated frown that was on his face, but he didn't exactly do the best job. At least it was less frowny when he turned to Professor Myers.

Paul nodded at Ravenclaw Sam. "Yes--they do honk when they're older, but for now they sound like baby ducks." So lots of small quacking AND some cries. Little cuties! He continued to stroke the tiny flower's petals. It's little quack-cries were getting softer...and softer... "I think I got it, mostly. Have to go put it back..." he said.
"Hi, Samuel!" he supposed he could call HIM Samuel while SAM TYLER was in the mix. "Two Sam's!" he grinned. "How funny. Are you two friends?" he asked, and he immediately started to chuckle. "Sam and SAM!" still amused by it. "What are you two doing in here anyway? Hanging out?" he asked in that 'dad trying to be cool' sorta' way.

Sam cautiously pulled the fingers from her ears as it became clear that the Professor's coaxing to the plant was working. Now it'd stopped making that awful racket, it was actually kinda cute. Those little quacking noises reminded her of the ducklings she'd seen at Dora's, and if she wasn't already so set on her plan for Ast's present, she might have reconsidered right now.
Sam looked at other Sam doubtfully. Myers seemed WAY too enthusiastic about them being here. Together. Although she was relieved he'd opted for Samuel to identify between them, and not Samantha. At least ONE professor knew she HATED the latter. Maybe she should persuade the Herbology professor to share that snippet with the Divination professor.
As for what they were doing? "He's exercising Taco," the Ravenclaw nodded towards the lizard. "And I'm looking for a specific flower."
'I've had worse'. That comment made lots of questions pop up in Laurel's head but she decided to not be too inquisitive. It could for all she knew drag up painful memories. "I'm glad," Laurel responded with a smile. "I remember cutting my finger in herbology class when I went here years ago. It caused some blood to drip from it unlike yours and it actually made the boy beside me faint." It had been something they had laughed at after with the healer.
"You've got a gifted sister. Does your sister that taught you that handy bandage spell go here?" Laurel queried curiously. She didn't think she had encountered another Penrose in the short time that she had taught here but it was a big school and not everyone took divination.
"That's wise of you Elle, everyone doesn't keep their pet under loving supervision, so that's very good of you." Laurel praised. If Jordan knew then he'd share in her point of view. Pet care was after all his field of expertise and loving interest.
Shaking her head she replied. "No I wasn't looking for figs for a snack, but for a potential lesson. Do you think i should save some for eating too?"
