As always with Professor Hirsch's style, the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom wasn't set up like your everyday classroom. Anyone who's been taught by the man long enough might know that he just doesn't structure his lessons in that kind of format. Not when the subject asked for so much physical activity.
This lesson was no different: the classroom was empty of desks, chairs and any other indication that it was an actual classroom. In fact, the only part of the actual classroom that seemed to have survived this sweep is the large board on one side of the large room. Instead, some cushions and mats have been placed on the floor near the board for people to lounge sit on.
The only indication as to what the lesson could be about can be found on the other side of the classroom, opposite from the board. A few long tables line that section of the room with a cloth covering the oddly-shaped items underneath. Want to take a peek? Sorry, kid, the large bubble surrounding the tables just won't let you do that. You might even get a tiny zap from it, if you try to.
Constant vigilance, anyone?
Professor Hirsch can be found standing near the board and his desk. His arms are crossed across his chest, his legs crossed at the ankles and a small, amused smile playing on his lips.
So come in, grab a cushion, and wait for the lesson to begin.
OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Hirsch's rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. Class will continue tomorrow (late eveningtime GMT) Class has officially started but you're more than free to jump in if you want to! Just pretend as though your charrie has been there the entire time. Hope you have fun! ^^

Hehe.
Olivia beamed at Dora's response. Terrific! A partner? They'd make a dynamic duo for sure. [insert superhero pose of your choice here!] This would be fun!!
Dora's question made her pause slightly. Conjure birds or butterflies? Why yes... she knew of a spell. But..... what was its name? O... Obiddy? Obird? Obirdo? Aha! "Oppoguno!" she exclaimed, rather excitedly. That was it! Those were the birds! She remembered it now. Oppugno. "I do! Want me to cast it at you?" Or should she just cast it?

Noelle listened to the responses that were being said throughout the classroom. She agreed with the companion spell. But.. like Olly, she didnt understand it. How did you do another spell when your concentration and wand work was needed for the spell you were already doing?
"I agree. Its a companion spell. It helps with your offensive spellwork, giving you that extra help you need. Not that I understand how you do it. " She'd have to work on that. .... Another thing to work on. But it excited her that she had something new to work on. "Maybe... you could use it in conjunction with.... " Her voice lowered at the last part because she wasnt confident in her answer. "Fire charm?"
OKay. Noelle was expecting that they would be trying it out next. Before she moved her things though, she jotted down what was on the board before pushing her things in her bag and then putting it to the side.
"Olly, you wanna team up?" They could practice together. Give each other some confident boosters. Noelle learned that the more confident you are in a spell, the better it works. She pulled her wand from the holster and twirled it as she waited.
She had a few spells up her sleeve already? Ones that came to her naturally? "That's remarkable, I have to say," he said, failing to hide a proud grin from spreading across his face, "I think it's time to give you a bigger challenge, then." And he was going to leave it at that. Let her guess what kind of spells she'd be working on next.
Her answers weren't bad and were made note of but really, Noelle, speak up, okay? Have a bit of confidence in your answers. After all, it wasn't a bad one.

After a long pause, he began an answer with what seemed like some difficulty. So she hadn’t been wrong, then- but- “Dangerous and horrifying?!” she echoed, with some alarm. With a distinct sense of alarm, it occurred to Sinead that she may not have fully understood the effects of the spell. Or, like- at all, really. Biting her lip, she tried to look subtly through her textbook as the Professor paused a moment and then spoke again. There was another long silence as she scanned the glossary, before slowly looking back up at the Professor, a deep flush overtaking her face. She could hardly admit to not having known what the spell was (for reasons of pride, if nothing else), but…
This was absolutely the worst first impression she could have made. Not for the first or last time, she cursed her luck at having a half-muggle, half-wizard upbringing, desperately trying to think of something to say to the Professor and, most of all, trying extremely hard not to cry.
“Um- yes, Professor. I just… wondered.” She tailed off lamely, ducking her head, and tried to go unnoticed for the next part of the lesson, burying her face in her notes.
It was the first lesson where Sinead had ever been reluctant to move on to the practical portion, but hopefully the professor would be busy and she wouldn’t have to face him again straight away. In the mean time, she stacked her things neatly at the side of the room and, centering herself with a deep breath, began to rehearse the incantation and wandwork under her breath. She’d read all up on Shield Charms, of course, but never actually cast one before- that wasn’t going to stop her, though.
Feeling she was ready after a couple of minutes, she spoke the incantation aloud- and sure enough, a faint shimmer burst through the air before her. Unfortunately, it dissipated almost straight away, and Sinead could feel her awareness of the spell fading with it.
Not exactly the effect she was after.
So, she needed to stay more focused on maintaining it? Maybe she’d been so keen just for the spell to work in the first place, she hadn’t followed through properly. Trying again, she managed to keep a wavering shield for a couple of seconds before it faded away. An improvement- but she could hardly cast Fianto Duri without a strong shield to start. Looking around again, she wondered if there might be somebody who could give her a few pointers on the spell- difficult as it was to ask for help, this was clearly a bit more advanced than other magic she’d been working on- and maybe pair up to test their barriers afterwards.
Despite not knowing what the cause of the flush in her cheeks was, he couldn't help but smile softly at her. She was young, much too young to be knowing what this spell does. The fact that she knew wasn't alarming but if she decided that she wanted to use it in the future, that was a completely different story.
"That's fine," he said, shaking his head, "As long as you're not planning on using it, it doesn't bother me."

Oh, practical! Katy stood, shifting her bag away from the center of the room. She pointed, considered, and then turned to the professor. She wasn't her cousin, but maybe he liked students other than Kettleburns? "What's the duration of the spell? Like maximum duration? Is it possible it will continue indefinitely, or does it burn out?"
But anyway. Katy pointed her wand at the air immediately in front of her. "Protego." Easy enough, right?

But it raised another question that he wasn't sure he heard the answer to. So once he got up from the mat and stretched his arms and legs a bit, he raised his hand to ask. "Professor, just how much longer does Fianto Duri make another spell last?" Was there a definitive time limit or was it one of those that needed to be consciously stopped. It would make a difference when it came to dueling, he thought.
Glancing around, he noticed a few people pairing up which he was definitely cool with. But he should probably practice the spell a few times on his own. Whoa... disintegrate? Hopefully no one took a step in the wrong direction and bumped into an enhanced shield. Moving to a more empty space of the room, Henry pointed his wand slightly above him and cast Protego. Another point of his wand at the already cast shield and he commanded, "Fianto Duri!"
And then there were two very similar questions posed at him. Kill two birds with one stone?
"Very interesting questions, I have to say," How had he not mentioned any of this during his long tirade of information? "The duration depends on the intensity of the Fianto Duri that you've cast. A weak one has been known to last a few precious minutes. But if you're looking for a quick getaway, those few minutes are all that you need."
"Stronger versions of the spell have been known to last indefinitely. The protections around this castle being an example. No one has the time to be casting defensive spells at every hour of the day." Shrug. "But just remember that your shield is still prone to attack, even with a Fianto Duri in place. If a strong enough attack occurs, it'll break the shield and the Fianto Duri as well." That was known to happen. "But if your magic is advanced enough and you can cast exceptional versions of the spell, you won't have trouble making is spell last for a long time. You just have to make sure to check up on it every now and then to see if it's still doing its job."
Pause.
"Does that make sense?"

See, Liv wasn't infallible when it came to Charms. There were some that just didn't work out for her yet. She was only a Fourth Year. There was still so much to learn and accomplish.
Like the Patronus Charm.......!!!!.... Could this spell work with that?
While she made with the standing up and working out of her bones and joints, which were decidedly less achy these days given that her growth spurts seemed to have stopped completely (her mother had named stress as the culprit), Olivia raised her left hand; withdrawing her wand with the other. "Professor, could this enhance a Patronus Charm?" He'd mentioned that there were some spells it simply did not work with. Obviously, Olivia couldn't pretend to know everything about Patronuses, but they seemed to be ongoing... "Like in a dangerous situation, could you produce your patronus and have it kept nearby for protection...as you carried on with whatever else you needed to do."
Oh.
Oh. This question! If Hirsch was that type of man, he would've been jumping for joy right now, simply because of this question. But since he wasn't, a wide smile would have to do.
"This is a truly excellent question, I have to say. Really!" Focus? "I haven't heard of it being tried but I doubt it. Patronuses are a moving representation of the hope in your soul, Fianto Duri is only going to make it more stationary than free moving and you wouldn't want that. Patronuses themselves require a lot of magic and effort to cast so it might be better to save your remaining energy for something else." Just saying.
"That was a very good question. Well done!"

She added to his words about attacking a creature.
Exploring? Playing Quidditch in the dark? Hirsch let out a small chuckle at those words. "Those are some more adventurous options but yes, that's the general idea."
But exploring....... like Indiana Jones? That would be a nice feeling.
During this portion of general spellcasting and testing out of the shields, Hirsch walked around the class, occasionally pausing by a student or another to see how they were faring. Some could do the Shield Charm already so casting it again was probably a piece of cake. But Fianto Duri made things harder and, he had to admit, he was glad about that. Leave them with a challenge, not something that was too easy.
.................. He spent too much time in the Ravenclaw Common room, didn't he?
And he should think about moving on otherwise this was all hey were going to get done today and that wouldn't make for a fun lesson.
"Tiiiiiiiiime's up!" he called out, clapping his hands once to get everyone's attention, "Well dome, everyone! I hope that has helped you to practice how the spell is cast in relation to another spell. Now, we're going to put your practice to the test."
There was a knowing smile on his face and a pause for dramatic effect. They were going to like this. Hopefully.
"So I'd like everyone to form two lines along two sides of the room and face the people in the other line. Make sure there's a large gap between the two lines. That's important." Leaving them to it, Hirsch moved away towards the part of the classroom where the tables had been. Upon his approach, he cast away the shield charm - didn't want to be zapped, that would be embarrassing - and levitated the tables towards the students. Some came to a rest before one line of the students and the others directly opposite and in front of the other. Perfect.
Approaching the two sides and stupidly standing right in he very middle, Hirsch called for everyone's attention again. "Okay, so the task is simple:" There was a short pause while he flicked his wand at the various tables. At once, the cloth covering the objects lifted away, revealing lots and lots of food. Enough to feed everyone in the room five times over, in fact.
"Food fight!" Was he proud of himself? He was.
"Some rules, though: you have to use Fianto Duri and a shield charm to defend yourself. Otherwise you'll be covered in food which is not the best of fashion choices." Was that a good joke?
No?
Carry on.
"Three....... two........ one......." Let him move away quickly. "Let the battle commence!"
OOC: I'm so ridiculously sorry! Portfolio stuff kept me away, that meanie.
But we're onto the main activity! YAYAYAY!
The task is simple: a food fight where you use Protego + Fianto Duri to defend yourself. Full creative license is up to you guys! Just have fun with it <3
I have some RULES though:
- No hurting each other. I mean it *angry unicorn face*
- If your shield + Fianto Duri gets hit three times, it'll disappear
- Yes, you CAN throw food through your own shield
- Food coming in from an opponent and into your shield will disintegrate. Play it how you will
- HAVE FUN ^^
You'll have until 20th January at 11:59pm GMT. Tons of time!
If you have any comments/questions/concerns, please feel free to come to me whenever wherever.
Thanks so much!

Professor Hirsch didn't seem to be angry with her- actually, he seemed kind of nice now, so no harm done? Oh well. She'd make sure to look up a spell before mentioning it next time.
Her shield was beginning to look a little more like how it was supposed to by the time that they moved on to the next activity, but she still felt a little trepidation as they moved into lines. Clearly their shields were about to be tested- hopefully hers was ready.
This hope only grew stronger when Professor Hirsch explained the activity. A food fight?! Was he serious? Apparently so- well, there was motivation and a half to prepare her shield. She wasn't exactly keen to go chucking bits of food at her classmates- it seemed pretty juvenile, actually- but she supposed the whole point of the class was being able to maintain a shield while doing something else, so she collected a couple of bread rolls as projectiles before taking her place in line and casting a shield with deadly intent.
She didn't know any cleaning charms yet; these robes were not getting dirty today. Her shield wasn't exactly the icy blue-white that some people had managed, and it just barely covered the space before her, but it was a kind of pearly white now instead of the transparent one she'd managed before, so that had to be an improvement of sorts.

Man, this lesson was AWESOME. Even if only because Daisy now knew how she could play Quidditch at night without super expensive lights. She sort of had an idea that this wasn't exactly what Professor Hirsch had had in mind but hey - Daisy really hadn't seen that many Dark Arts that she needed to defend herself from okay?
She didn't really need to end the protective shield around her before getting herself into a line because the shield sort of did that himself. But that did not matter now because Professor Hirsch was dividing the class into two lines, and bringing a table full of food to stand between the lines. Oh yes. Daisy bounced excitedly in her spot as she waiting on baited breath for the words she knew were about to come.
YESS! FOOD FIGHT!
Someone seemed to be as excited as she was because she felt, rather than saw, something coming towards her and quickly ducked, but not before feeling it brush against her hair. NOOO. Was that mashed potatoes?! She looked at the other side of the line with a huff, saw the Gryffindor Prefect mouth apologetically in her direction and squinted her eyes at him. Not. Nice.
The Slytherin clutched her wand tighter, looking over the contents of the table and listened to the instructions. Oh, right. Charm. "Protego!" She intently said, pleased to feel the shield surround her. Time to make it blue! "Fianto Duri." The shield around her assumed a blue glow and she smiled, pleased. Hirsch was making a joke now - or attempting one and Daisy shook her head at him. He was a riot, he was.
Anyway.
As soon as she heard the word, she reached forwards to the table grabbed a bowl of yoghurt and threw it as hard as she could.
Standing on left side.. We're coming for you Ace! lol mentions of Daisy

Janelle knew that Natalia would have no problem with the spell. She had seen her do it when she first approached her about being partners. Bye bye chocolate frog.
Nat laughed as the little frog poofed at her shield. That was quite cool if she was really being honest. "Great Job!" Now it was her turn she lifted her wand to do her shield when she heard the professor. "Whelp I guess we will see if it works during the activity." Though she really hoped that it did since the activity was throwing food.
"Want to stand by me?" Maybe she could use the help if her shield didn't really work. Moving to the left side of the line she chuckled when she saw who was on the opposite side. "Well well Mr. Prefect, think you can get it past my shield?" Ace was a pretty cool Gryffindor, she'd admit that, but no way was she getting hit with food.
WHELP!!!
Before she could put up her shield she was hit with.. custard? It was now dripping in her hair. She stood stunned for a few moments before looking at him and that's when she noticed another Slytherin had ducked. If she wouldn't have ducked the head girl wouldn't have been it.
Hmm.. could they hit someone on their own side??
"Thanks.."
Moving her wand she cleaned herself up, though some might still be in her hair. "Protego....Fianto Duri Once the shield was up she picked up her own bowl and started to smirk. "Go ahead try that again."
Staying on her line she tossed the contents at the other side.

A food fight? That was amazing. They usually got in trouble for throwing food. So this mean it was totally okay now. And she loved it. Hattie though hoped that she wouldn't get too covered in food. She really didn't want her hair to get wrecked. That was okay though.
She got up, and lined up on the right hand side. This was the best side, and she was opposite Daisy which was great. She couldn't wait to tell her mother that she'd covered Daisy in food. The girl beamed, and as soon as they could go she set about casting "Protego" nice and confident. She could do it. It was easy. And then came "Fianto Duri" And then she had a blue shimmery shield.
Just in time because she nearly got hit by yoghurt. "Nice Try Daisy." She giggled before grabbing a handful of jam and throwing it at the other side of the room.

It's the end of the show. Of the historemix. We switched up the flow. And we changed the prefix
But we want to say. Before we drop the curtain. Nothing is for sure. Nothing is for certain
Once Henry cast the enhancement spell to his shield, he squinted at it to see if it worked properly. He thought he could see a hint of a bluish white cast to his shield, but it didn't seem very prominent and he wasn't so sure he did it properly. In fact, he wasn't that happy with his shield at all so he cast Finite so he could try again.
Had he said the spell properly? Henry glanced up at the board again, repeating the incantation in his head - fee-AHN-toe DYOU-ree. Yeah, he totally had it this time. Maybe just needed a tad more confidence. He cast Protego again, in front of and slightly above him. Then a pointed cast of Fianto Duri. Yeah. That was better. He could see a more prominent bluish white sheen to his shield.
And he was just about to test it out too, when Hirsch announced that it was time's up. Aw, man. Finite. But at least he got an answer to his question and yes, it did make sense. Perfect sense.
Normally Henry did not advocate the wasting of food. Not when he could be eating it. Unless the reason for wasting was a food fight! Dodging the mashed potatoes, he hurried over to the right side of the room over by Ace. They were bros, yeah? They could totally work together.
Casting his shield in front of him, Henry took the briefest of moments to concentrate before casting Fianto Duri. He did have to focus, but he didn't want to spend too much time focusing or else he'd get hit by food before the enhanced shield was up. Now.. grabbing a handful of chocolate pudding, he threw it over at the girls on the other side. Let's see how good their shields would hold up.

Janelle was just about to unwrap the chocolate frog so she could test Natalia's shield, when time was called. It was too bad that the Head Girl didn't get to have a turn, but at least one less frog had to die. Handing the candy back to Natalia, Janelle responded, "Sure, I'll stand by you." The seventh year followed her partner over to the left side of the room and watched as the tables' contents were reavealed. A food fight? Well Janelle was in. Hopefully she wouldn't have to worry about getting messy........if her spells worked.
Well maybe not, because food seemed to be flying before the fight was officially started. There was no time to waste because the professor had started the countdown. Janelle had her wand out and Protego had just left her lips, when custard came flying in her general direction. "Fianto Duri", she said quickly. Unfortunately, Janelle was not quite quick enough. While her shield was up and functional, some custard bits had landed on her shoulder. It seemed as if Natalia had taken a direct hit though. Maintaining her shield, Janelle scooped up a handful of mashed potatoes and sent it back in the direction from whence the custard had come. Oh this was going to be fun.

Waving his wand towards his bag, he summoned a couple of parchment over and crushed them. He watched her produce the protego charm. Not bad, she could do better, though. James nodded,"Alright then. Ready?" He levitated a few and tossed the crushed paper balls over to her.
But her shield charm had added strength now, didn't he know? That was the part she was eager to see tested. That was the part that excited her, causing her to nod enthusiastically at his question. Didn't she look ready?

She gave Janelle a wink to show she was fine and smiled, [b] "We can't let them do that again. Her shield still strong and glanced around until she saw a new target. Bending to scoop up some of the potatoes this time she glanced around.
"Hey Henry"
Making sure her arm was ready she was hoping saying his name would make him surprised by her actions, but since it was a planned food fight maybe it wouldn't be all that surprising. "Hungry?" Tossing the potatoes towards him she giggled a bit. This was fun.
Left side of the room! *Not afraid to get dirty here*
What?????! A food fight? But THAT sounded cool! Ha! If she had know that this lesson was going to be this fun then she would have prepared herself better before coming here! And, for the first time she was actually happy to wear a school uniform because, even if her clothes will get dirty, and she was absolutely convinced that they would get dirty somehow, then it didn’t mattered because it were just school clothes and not her own! Her smile widened and she took her position in the line and she eyed a few of the other students before her, still ginning widely. A second year or not, she was going to do her best into using her charms correctly to make the others even more dirty than she herself would get! Quickly pointing her want she Protego spell and seconds later the Fianto Duri and then, when she was safely behind her protection spells she RAN toward the table with food, laughing loudly!!
Daisy had been trying to not get hit by food and had ducked. Quidditch reflexes and all that. What she hadn't considered in that split second - because, of course not, her mind didn't work that fast - was that someone had to get hit by the custard she had avoided. And in this case, it happened to be the Head Girl. Of whom Daisy wasn't scared of. At all. No, sir!
For a few seconds, she stood there wide-eyed staring at the older Slytherin. She wasn't going to curse her, was she? Or remove points? Oh Lord, she really didn't want to go to detention. Why was she surrounded by badged-people??!! What had she done to deserve this? With a grimace, she mouthed a brief 'sorry' at the girl. That was when she felt something hit her shoulder. Turning away from the older Slytherin, she looked down at her shoulder to find some strawberry jam sticking to her uniform. She hadn't really noticed that her shield was no longer set in place, which was understandable because let's face it, her concentration had slightly been broken by thoughts of the terrifying Head Girl yelling at her.
Her free hand moved to her shoulder and she scooped a bit of the jam with her finger before popping it into her mouth. Yummy.Hattie, however, was standing in front of her with a suspiciously looking red hand. Aha! She quickly cast her shield again and grinned at the Hufflepuff in front of her. "Fianto Duri!" Grabbing a jar of pumpkin juice, she threw its contents at the younger girl. "You look thirsty, Hattie!"

Phew she hoped that she had gotten enough practice in with that spell to do a good job in the next part of the lesson. She was pretty confident in the Dada so that was quite helpful when it came to this stuff. Her attention then went back to Hirsch as he moved the lesson along, Main activity next? Yes.
Food fight, Hirsch say what?
Since she was already standing, She lined up on the right side of the room. She was closer to that side anyway. Using her wand she cast the spell. "Protego Fianto Duri." The blueish white shield was in place and she was ready for battle. Insert her best game face here.
And Go. Kat grabbed both hands full of cooked pasta, you know she was part Italian, right? Of course she would go for the pasta. "Who wants a new pasta hair-do?" Kat actually cackled when she let out a laugh. Where was Phillip? He could do with a new hair do.
Kat spotted a younger Slytherin. She looked like she wasn't dirty enough yet, sh flung the pasta noddles at her.
Incomming....

FOOOD FIGHT!!!!!!
Now this was a lesson that Noelle could enjoy. She grinned at Olly before heading to the left side of the room.
Mashed potatoes whizzed by her but luckily Head Girl Nat was a pro at the shield charm and handled that. Noelle kinda lined herself up with her and Janelle.
Before she cast her charm though... she grabbed peas and tossed two handfuls at Ace and Henry. Opps, Sorrynotsorry
Now for her shield because she really didnt want to go to Arithmancywith pumpkin juice in her hair.

Things were moving way too fast for Elle’s comfort. It had seemed like as soon as the younger Slytherin (Artel) had approached her to ask for help conjuring a shield, Professor Hirsch had announced that practice time was over and they were moving on to the main activity. She hadn’t felt any better about the revelation that they were basically testing out their shields against a food fight. Therefore, she chose to take safety precautions before she’d even moved to get into one of the two lines, sticking close to the first year in case she felt the need to ask for help again. However, she first turned her wand on herself, casting a quick Impervious to hopefully keep herself from dealing with a replay of the opening feast. Food wasn’t that different than slime after all, especially given what apparently was provided for said fight.
Getting in line, she momentarily ducked aside to avoid a hit before swinging her wand around in front of herself again. “Protego!,” she cast, quickly following it with another point of her wand. “Fianto Duri!” Blue-white shimmer in front of herself, all that was left was to take offensive. Reaching forward to pick up a bowl of pudding, she flung it toward the other side of the room, taking cover behind her shield soon afterward and trying to look innocent.

*wants to stand in the middle* Left side. *drags Olivia with*
Before Dora could correct Olivia, Hirsch spoke and... well that was FUN! Grabbing the younger lion by the robes she dragged her to the side with her. [HOPE THAT'S OKAY!] Once on the LEFT side of the room, Dora flicked her wand upward as she muttered, "Protego, Fianto Duri! "
The Gryffindor beamed as she saw the light erupt from her wand tip and create a boundary around her. Well, she let go of Olivia first. Hehe. But as she flicked the wand into place, she let her eyes scan the area. Sabel had taught her all about observing her surroundings before reacting.

It was time to go already?! But Kane wasn't done practicing! Before he knew it, food was flying in ALL directions. What was the point of even doing his hair this morning?! It was all going to be RUINED!
Ducking behind a desk for just a moment so he could get his bearings, he reminded himself that he COULD do the shield charm - he'd done it plenty of times since he first learned it last year. He was just nervous. Not like the life of his flippy bangs depended on it...
He stood up and cast the charm in front of him. "Protego!" he cried confidently, and then pointed his wand straight at the shield. "Fianto Duri!!" he cried again, smiling in delight as the FAINTEST smoke of blue surrounded his shield. BOOM! He knew he could do it!
And then he took pumpkin juice and just FLUNG it into the crowd. Maybe it would connect, maybe not...but at least he was protected for now!

Standing Right Side of the room- Mention of Tenacius and Dora
Stephanoodle || Adorable Nerd
As Colt was asking Leon to be his partner, he heard the Professor call the task was done. They were changing the activity. He shrugged to him and walked over. Wait a minute did he hear food fight? An actual food fight? Oh it was so on. He wondered who would be his worthy opponent. He turned his head and scanned the room. Take in your surroundings winchester. This will get messy. He saw the Professor usher everyone to begin the food fight.
Now sides are drawn.
He thought quick and went to the right side. He went over to his lion prefect buddy. He huddled with him and first needed to cast his shield. "Hey mate.." he greeted him with so he wouldn't freak out. Seemed like the kid that would. He got his wand from his robes and got up from out underneath Tenacius shield and casted his own. "Protego!" and he realized a food came in the nick of time and splattered just a bit just using protego. He wiped off his face and realized the shield was gone.
He casted again, "Protego!, Fianto Duri!!" and then saw the light blue shield. He beamed with pleasure. Now time to aim for his target. He saw his fellow lion Dora and thought why not have some competition? He threw some spaghetti at her and smirked with glee.
Okay, so this was amazing. Hirsch had been right in thinking Dora would enjoy this!! Her spider senses were tingling as she let her eyes survey the other students, the ones opposite herself, and she couldn't hide the pleased smile that stretched her lips as she watched Colt fling some spaghetti... and watch it disintegrate on her shield.
OH!
IT WAS SOOOOO ON!
Dora reached to the table closest to herself and grabbed up a handful of mushy peas as she narrowed her eyes and flung them mostly at Colt... but maybe some found their way closer to Hirsch and some randoms near Colt.
The girl had quite a throwing arm! OF COURSE THE PEAS WENT ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE ROOM.

Oh, good. Etta had no idea what happened in Herbology, which meant there were other people out there who probably didn't either. Perrrrrfect! "That's cool. Thanks," he said. He then turned his focus to the wadded up piece of parchment and watched as Etta shielded herself against it. "Awesome spell work," he commented, glad she had actually performed the spell and not gotten hit in the face with his makeshift ball. The last thing he needed was Professor Myers hearing a rumor that Brent had hit a girl in the face with a ball. He had a feeling he wouldn't be able to talk himself out of that one.
It looked like it was just about his turn, which he was pretty excited about, when the professor changed the course of action into one he was definitely not expecting. Brent joined the two lines they'd formed across the room and prepared himself for some fake creatures to battle or...well, something. He was in no ready thinking they'd get bombarded with food. "Duuuuude. What is it with this school and dumping things on people's hard?" he asked no one in particular. Nobody likely heard him either. The room had erupted into chaos, and Brent ducked just in time to see a tomato slice zoom past his eye.

Running in place, she was. Still trying to figure out what they were meant to be practicing. She and Derf were clearly lost causes here. "Maybe we should just--" But what they should just, she didn't get to finish. Becauuuuuuse that's when she heard the announcement from their teacher.
WAIT WHAT?
DUDE. Hogwarts was SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zoryn threw a fist up in the air and took hold of Derf's arm, dragging him to the RIGHT side of the room. Not because she picked it consciously. But because it felt like the right place to go.
Sort of.
Now she needed to acquire the ammo. Also, there was one problem here. She hadn't figured out the spell yet. So uh, uh oh.

Throwing food at each other seemed like a fun idea, except that it was a little wasteful. The house elves had gone to terrible trouble and they were just tossing things at each other. Worse, if her shield failed her, Katy was going to get gross food in her hair.
Nope. Nopers. All the noping up in here.
"Protego. Fianto Duri." She waited only a moment after snapping a shield into place before following it up with a solid bolstering charm to keep it in place. If someone opted to throw food at her... she wanted to be ready for it.
Katy took up a spot next to Miss Nat. If necessary, she'd hide behind the older (and bigger) girl... she was no Gryffindor. "Protect me and I'll make it worth your while." She hefted two handfuls of plain spaghetti and waved the strands over her head. "DO NOT TEST ME."

Before Olivia could do anything else, she was dragged alongside Dora. Woah. Food fight? What? She decided not to say anything and let herself be dragged figuring that she probably had a good chance of survival with Dora. After all, Dora seemed like she knew what she was doing. Oh MERLIN. DORA let go of her. NO PROTECTION NOW. She watched Dora with widened eyes. Be like Dora. Be like her older housemate. Brave. "Thanks for pulling me out of the center!" smiled Olivia, thanking her older housemate.
And before saying another word, she needed to defend herself from incoming food. She set herself to work. Olivia whipped out her wand, casting the first spell, "Protego" and followed by "Fianto Duri!"
"Nice one, Dora!" Dora had good aim. Yes indeed. But now was not the time to stay sitting around. She had to join in. This was a food fight. She readied herself to fling food at Tenacius, Henry, Zoryn, and Derf when she noticed.... Where was Etta? And Brent? Were they? Ehh.. Nevermind she'd find them later. Instead, she focused on covering Dora, and aimed some squash towards Henry and Derf and tomatoes towards Tenacius and Zoryn. The food would hopefully somewhat match their houses colour, right? Hehe.
