Default Ancient Runes Lesson I

If you have taken Professor Sokolov's class before you would see that it hardly ever changes. Desks and chairs all in rows like an normal classroom. The only thing different this year is he tried to make the chairs as comfortable as he could without risking them falling asleep even though it was the afternoon. He wishes someone would. It would be a fun distraction for him from lecturing.

Also like usual there was an a design on the blackboard hinting of what they will be learning today.

Professor Sokolov was waiting by the door for everyone to enter.

Please do come in and take a seat.

There are no assigned seats.

OOC: Hi Everyone I'll be starting the class in around 24 hours

Carlton tried his best to scribble down notes, especially answers Charlotte suggested because she was so smart and nice and smart and nice and smart.

Again he focused on professor Sokolov. Maybe Carlton would understand this next question. This was probably the class he'd been the least active at. He tried though! He really did try. He was just dumb. Tentatively, he raised his hand. "Maybe it's important because smart rune people can come up with even more powerful runes if tested at other materials?" Like the materials his smart class mates had mentioned earlier. "And maybe when the runes work a different way they can be countered differently. And- And- And new uses of old runes can be found." He blinked. His head was spinning a little bit, but he hoped his blabbering had made at least a little sense. "And new runes."

New. Old. RUUNES.

Head spin.

Basically, don't stop testing spells and runes because knowledge people! Knowledge. Something Carlton didn't have a lot of in this particular class.

Olivia couldn't help but feel a smidgen of her self-confidence pouring back into her body. This was a good discussion they had going and she felt like she was properly contributing. So, all in all, the lesson had been a success. On top of actually learning something... it'd given her a million galleon idea. Well, perhaps not a "million", but maybe a few hundred; which was still more than what she currently had.

Huh.

...Oh? They weren't doing a practical portion today? Shifting her gaze around the classroom, Liv couldn't help the slightly disappointed expression upon her face. It was neither here nor there, but she'd been ready to make some attempts. Actually, it was probably best, given that she still felt sick. So, maybe this was a blessing in disguise, where the Gryffindor wouldn't be forced to miss any of the material. In addition to last term, she was still trying to keep this academic streak going. For her own self.

"For the sake of progress? I mean, we're always evolving as a magical race, right? Maybe the standard methods will become outdated at some point." Short, sweet, and to the point.

Closing her eyes for just a few seconds to clear her mind she hoped to find the right answer for the question because… She wanted to at last know SOMETHING about this subject! While opening her eyes she rose her hand and spoke slowly but sure of herself. “I think that it’s important because every object can carry traces of power or even magic in it, some objects more than others so… That’s way I think that it’s important to use many different objects for you runes” she said, thinking back at some of the muggle TV program’s she had seen while her mother had been watching the TV.

Kane didn't know why anyone would use ANYTHING to read runes, but he knew that wasn't going to earn him any points here. All he learned so far from this lesson was that there were a LOT of different things you could use to carve runes in to.

He thought about it for a moment before raising his hand. "Well, each person probably reacts differently to the type of surface you carve a rune in to. So you could try a bunch of different surfaces to see what works best for you," he explained.

Skylar was really trying to focus and listen, despite her boredom with the subject overall. The professor was decent though, so it definitely made it worth it. Yes, some materials worked better than others, she'd gathered that much. She did sit up straight though when he said 'before I let you go'; they were done already? Well she supposed it was an interesting discussion that they all had, but still... Sky was kind of surprised how fast the discussion seemed to go. She didn't think she'd even once closed her eyes and fallen asleep.

Yes, she agreed with what someone had mentioned about evolution but surely there was something else maybe that the Professor was looking for in an answer? "Um well like, despite the fact that there's methods that work well, we can't even learn and grow unless we try new things and try to think outside the box. It's part of the learning and growth curve." At least that's what she presumed to be correct.

Viktor crossed his arms and listened to all their opinions and he was impressed. Actually all them understood it and that was all he was hopeful. Even that weird but correct analogy with peanut butter.

"Seem like you guys are getting it. Its to try and experiment and see what can be used besides the tested and true. I don't think the three i keep going back to will be outdated anytime soon. But depending on your circumstance you might find a different material will suit you or you can see how different items react to you when you try and invoke them. In the end is all personal. That where the fun is in it for me. Or you know never use anything and just stick with your wand. That can work too depending on whether you trust or like Runes"

Viktor said grinning.

"Try and keep an open mind and on that note class is at an end. Everyone is free to leave"

Now he could finally sit down if he wished.

OOC: Thanks for coming everyone. I will leave the thread open until tomorrow just in case anyone wants to catch up. Thanks again for coming

"Because new materials are being developed all the time, so what was avaiable to wizards and witches when all this started is different than now. And because people might always come up with something new and we shouldn't just take such things for granted but try to, you know, test the boundaries and stuff. And also to learn why some things work and why some things don't? For like personal reasons, it's usually more effective to learn through practice than just theory," though Harvey didn't actually agree with that so much. He loved theory.
