| | The Spirit Room The door to a mysterious door on the fifth floor swings open to reveal a dank and dusty room which has clearly been vacant for years. White sheets cover the furniture, cobwebs fill every nook, cranny, corner, and everything in between, including a cup filled with wooden potion stirrers. The heavy scent of mildew permeates every aspect of the room. For some reason, all you can do is stand and stare inside.
Though the door swung open easily, a strange barrier once again prohibits the living from entering this room. The barrier was put in place by Marcella Riddle the term after her unfortunate demise and protected the peace and quiet of the ghosts still residing at Hogwarts. The room has on off since laid quietly in the years since the young Hogwarts ghosts reattained their bodies. For more details on the former residents of this room, please read Hogwarts, A History, chapters term 5 to term 7). |

Peeves and Miffy had announced their upcoming nuptials? Sir Nicholas was not quite sure what to think of this peculiar development. His semitransparent face was etched in thought as he stared at the wall, floating around in circles within the Spirit Room.
He was waiting for Lady Helena, The Friar and The Baron to arrive so that they could discuss their thoughts. A betrothal between two poltergeists was not something one saw everyday... or century.

Alfred was still reeling from the feast. Upset by many things, he turned up to this meeting of the ghosts reluctantly. His mood brightened slightly when he saw Sir Nick, though, and he gave the Gryffindor ghost a nod of his head. "Hello, Nick. How are you fairing today?" he asked softly, dreading the moment the Baron walked - or rather, floated? - into the room.
The Friar also still did not know how he felt about the marriage between Peeves and Miffy. The two were trouble enough on their own, but joined together in something he, as a Friar, considered so holy? However, it was love. And love was love was love to him.

Lady Helena did not like the goings on in the Feast at all. From the ketchup fiasco to Miffy being Miffy to the announcement of marriage, of all things, the ladyship felt that it had ruffled her feathers more than anything else had. Did they understand the sanctity of marriage? The deep connection between two people in that situation? No. All they understood were pranks and she was not standing for it.
So it was with a small huff that the ghost of Ravenclaw Tower floated into the Spirit Room. "Hello, Sir Nicholas." Her lips stretched out into as warm of a smile as she could get it. "Hello, Alfred. I take it you're both well?" Ever poised, her hands were clasped in front of her as she looked around to see where the Baron had gotten to.

The Baron had little reason to be around certain company following the Feast fiasco. But this was important. Although Peeves would follow his command, that Miffy was a threat. Them being joined in marriage would only cause reputable harm to all. Their offensive announcement on an important night was just the beginning.
"Lady Helena.. Nick.. Alfred. Apologies for the wait." He glowed more at the sight of the Grey Lady than the other two as the rattling of his chains diminished as he stopped. "Now what are we do to with Peeves and Miffy's..marriage." The thought of them doing such a thing was so offensive to him. "It should not happen." He had a good reason for why, but of course, their thoughts had to be shared.

Nick came out of his trance like state at the appearance of the Friar. "Good Evening Friar," he said. "Fine, thank you, and yourself? How are your Hufflepuffs after the dismal interruption of your toast to our Late Professor Botros?" Though a Gryffindor he was, he still cared deeply for all students, past and present, of Hogwarts.
Nick felt his un-beating heart skip a beat as Lady Helena floated in. He, himself, floated ever so closer to her. "Good evening milady," he said to her. "Well as could be, and yourself, dear Lady Helena?" "Baron," Nick said simply at the arrival of the Slytherin Ghost. He listened to what the Baron was saying, but felt a slight change in his thoughts. "Well well now let us not be so brash. Why not let them do what will make them blissful? At the risk of declining their wish well, perhaps we will turn this situation into a revengeful plot against our houses."

Alfred nodded at Lady Helena as she meandered into the Spirit Room in that delicately graceful way she usually possessed. "As well as I can be," he said softly. Instead of pacing, seeing as he was a ghost, the Friar was floating to and fro when the Baron arrived. He said nothing to the Baron besides giving him a nod of his head. His hands rested atop on his rather round tummy as he floated!paced. "I think they're all okay. We will live!" Not him, not literally. The students, though, would live. They would be fine, even if it had been very rude.
The Baron wasted no time, though. "Baron," he said softly. "I am frightened of what they will do if we deny them this right." That's right, he said a right. Everyone had the right to love and be bonded, even poltergeists.

It was hard to miss the clanking of chains, she mused as the last ghost drew nearer and floated into the room. She gave the chains a once-over, wishing dearly that he'd dispose of them already. "Baron, good to see you," she said, giving him a small smile in return.
Her eyes were averted first to Alfred, who received a small bow of her head for the news about his Hufflepuffs, and then to the Gryffindor ghost floating towards her with his head intact, thankfully. "I'm very much the same, thank you for asking, good Sir." There was no use upsetting the males present over her ruffled feathers and general dislike towards the poltergeists in the castle. Not least when they were due to talk about matters.
But the answers? She looked over at Alfred and Nicholas with sharp eyes, not believing her ears. "Surely, you're not suggesting we let them continue?" Didn't Sir Nicholas have good judgement on these matters? "Frankly, I agree with Baron. We cannot let them get married. It's preposterous! What do they know about these matters of the heart?" They would besmirch the very name!

What was this? Not only a welcoming gesture from the Bloody Baron's longing love, Lady Helena but an agreement too? He couldn't help but feeling chuffed over the matter.
But of course, being the gentleman the Baron had to exercise the act of modesty or at least not show his swelling pride over it. Even if it meant not outright dismissing such a mushy reason. "I hear your words Sir Nick and Alfred. Considering the havoc we already endure from them I do say we must consider the amount of havoc that the school will endure if this is allowed. The two of them joining in an union." The sanctity of marriage ruined, he most certainly agreed. "It is outrageous. They already find joy in disrupting our peace separately, what's to say they won't even more when officially together?"

Nick puffed up his semitransparent chest. "I believe it not matter what they believe the matters of the heart, in this day and age the sanctity of marriage has been quite tarnished. If it be a matter of upholding the holy meaning of marriage, over the protection of our students well..." Nick shrugged. He believed there would be dismal consequences for Hogwarts if they continued to say no. "Baron, we know you have some authority over Peeves, but what about Miffy? Can you honestly believe you can control the two? Think of the chaos they will cause. You heard them at the feast, I believe. 'You will regret this,' shall we really take that chance?" He was miffed. Simply miffed as to how Lady Helena and the Baron could risk this.

Alfred glanced at Helena with his hand over his heart. "All beings can feel love, my lady. Surely even Peeves and Miffy can?" While he did have his doubts about the trueness of their love, he felt it presumptuous of Helena to assume she knew how Miffy and Peeves could possibly be feeling. "I'm sorry," he said softly, disliking the tension in the room. "But I must agree with Sir Nicolas. The chaos that would amount from our denial...of their love...whatever love it may be...would be paramount."

Dare she say it, her ladyship was starting to become peeved with this conversation. She tightened her clasp on her hands and looked at Sir Nicholas and Alfred with a sharp look in her eyes. It was surprising that the Baron was making the most sense in this scenario. Why did he have the best view on the matter but the other two couldn't see the predicament they'd be in if this union continued? "I don't deny their love, Alfred," Even if she despised it. "But I don't think they understand what a marriage means and entails. It's a huge step forward." She was most surprised with Sir Nicholas, whom she turned to next. "We do care about the protection of our students, Sir Nick, which is why we're opposing to the idea of them getting married," she huffed, "If we give them this chance, they're going to use it to make other, more ridiculous demands. Together, unified, they'll be far beyond anyone's control. I cannot risk that."
Frankly, the Grey Lady was feeling more hurt by the Gryffindor ghost's comments than anyone else's, which is why she floated a little further away from Nicholas.

"Non-beings such as Peeves and Miffy are not capable of feeling love, I must remind you. I do declare that they are only using it as an act." All this love talk was irking the Baron. If it were truly love, they would have no reason to show it off to those who already despise them. This was an institution for learning and high standards not for... love. As for controlling them, tut. "Peeves will see in time that I am right. She has been nothing but a horrible influence on him. We have all noticed his disturbances even more since her appearance."
Concurring with the Lady, "I completely agree!" Lady Helena was the wisest of them all with her intellect and beauty to boot. If she didn't support it, why couldn't the other ghosts? "I can not see how two poltergeists marrying would stop them from creating more even chaos than usual." The sight of his darling Lady hurt made him visibly upset, "Look at this Sir Alfred and Nick. They have already created havoc with just the announcement, if this all goes through then this school will have nothing to stop their united antics." Mark his words.

So it was only the Friar who was in agreement? Nicholas sighed. He listened to Lady Helena and the Baron's reasonings, but remained with his opinion. "My dear friends we could muse over this for all of eternity and still get nowhere. I must take my leave, for I fear saying something in which I will regret." He bowed his head, which flopped to the side. Nick pulled it back into place, continuing to float out of the Spirit Room.
He would discuss the matter with the students. Surely they would offer other perspectives?

It seemed they would not agree. Alfred disliked disagreements, especially amongst friends, as he saw his fellow ghosts as such, even the Baron. He sighed, sadly at the waning figure of Sir Nick.
"I think you both have ruffled his feathers, now," he told them gently. "Whatever you all decide, I will support, of course!" he rested his hands on his rotund stomach. "But I do believe we should let them get married. But seeing as Nick has left us, I do believe the discussions has come to an end! So if you will excuse me, Lady Helena...Baron...I will go check on Sir Nick." He managed a smile before floating out.
Sir Nick seemed very upset!

While Lady Helena always thrived on a good intellectual debate, this was far from that. This was a falling out and her ladyship wasn't pleased in the slightest. She sucked in her breath and watched as Sir Nicholas, whom she always got along with remarkably well, had decided to drift off rather than stay in their company. That was hurtful.
The Grey Lady didn't say anything to him or Alfred when they departed but turned to Baron next when it was just the two of them in the room. "I'm afraid I must take my leave too," she said with a small sigh, "Thank you for taking the wiser route in this, Baron." And with that, she drifted off with as much grace and poise as she could muster.
