Jordan listened to all the students' opinion about the reason why having a license to own a fwooper is necessary. He just nodded when each of them gave their opinion. Some other students decided to keep silent and took some notes.

That's an interesting question. "The fwooper's song doesn't drive animals insane, Prefect Valentine." He answered her first question. And for the second one... "The effect's of its song will last a maximum of two hours, so no magic required for that." Don't worry, Jordan wouldn't make his students became insane.

"Great opinion, everyone." He said and nodded to the student. "The purpose of having a license is to show that the owner is capable to handle and taking care of the fwooper. Just like muggles need to have driving license in order to show that they are capable to drive a car." Simply like that. "One of the requirement to have a fwooper owning license is be able to perform the silencing charm, and that's what we're going to do today. You guys no need to worry to get affected by the fwooper's song because I provide the earmuffs to protect your ears. Also, we're gonna use the young ones." He said as he wrote down the incantation of silencing charm on the board.

Jordan then took a box of colorful earmuffs and put it on his desk. "I suggest everyone take an earmuff and put it on. Because he's gonna demonstrate to them how to silence the fwooper. Putting his earmuffs on, Jordan then lifted a disillusionment charm on his desk and reveal that there was a singing fwooper in a cage. He made a sharp jabbed movement with his wand and cast the spell. "Silencio!" Until there's no sound coming out from the fwooper even though it continued to open and close its beak.

"Now you guys can practice the wand movement and incantation first before we're moving on to the main activity." He announced to the class.

It was an actual Fwoopers!! Azura was practically bouncing up and down in her seat as the Professor lifted his disillusionment charm.. and there it was.. sitting there in its beautiful Fwooperness. Gahhh..

It was amazing..

"Fwoopers. " She whispered out in awe..

Azura grabbed a pair of ear muffs after she was done with her awed staring and blinked a little in order to figure out what they were going to do! Oh right! The silencing charm!

She needed to learn this if she was ever going to own a Fwooper. Which she was. So there was that.

She stood up and did a few jabs with her wand.. the movement was fairly simple enough..

Just an explanation from a shopkeeper was all that was necessary to own a fwooper? That seemed awfully lenient to the fourth year, especially if the professor related owning one to getting a driver's license. Henry knew that took a lot of learning and practice, because he was planning on getting his as soon as he was able.

But he didn't give the matter any more thought because his attention was soon focused on the fwooper that appeared once the professor lifted the charm. So they would get to work with the magical birds... that was pretty cool! He didn't really see a reason to practice the jab movement or to repeat the incantation though. He knew how to cast this spell. In fact, he thought it might come in handy for dueling if he decided to do that again. Instead, he simply sat watching until it was time to do something else.

Aoife was surprised that a Fwooper had a regular song birds' voice. She would expect some awful, dramatic Mandrake cry or something like that. Her attention soon averted to the fluffy ear muffs, and she picked up herself a lovely pink pair, of course. Silencing Fwoopers. HOW EXCITING. Aoife adjusted her ear muffs comfortably, and then stood on her tip toes to get a real good look at the bird that was revealed behind the cage. They weren't very pretty, were they?

After a substantial gawp at the creature, she pulled out her wand and watched the professor's demonstration of the wand movement.

Jabbing. Easy. Meaning hardly any practice necessary.

She gave her practice jabs a pretty pathetic and lazy effort, to be honest. She would just wing it when it actually came to the spell work. How difficult could a jab motion really be? Moving onto her pronunciation, Aoife watched the other students with interest before she embarrassed herself even further. But it sounded quite mute across the board, so she muttered the word very quietly to herself.

"Si-len-see-ohhh..." Every syllable was very elongated to begin with. "Silence-ioh." So, basically - Silence, with an 'IOH' on the end. Kinda funny that she was whispering the silencing charm. Hehehe. "Silencio." Aoife was pretty sure she had it right.

A fwooper? That's what they were going to be working with today? Sounded way cool! Jonas smiled glad he didn't say that outloud. Alright. He got a pair of ear muffs and then came back to his desk and started to jab his wand a bit. Simple enough. Now for the words....what were the words? "Si-len-see-oh. Oh right." Jonas muttered.

Olly was not really surprised that there was a real fwooper. It was the subject of the class so that would only make sense, right? He was a bit worried right away, because of how the sound can drive someone insane and whatnot. But the professor had brought earmuffs and they were practicing the silencing charm so there was really nothing to worry about. Olly went and grabbed a pair of earmuffs for himself, a pale purple one. They were very soft and comfy against his ears.

Silencing charm. That wasn't too hard. Olly knew that one and he had performed it before so he wasn't too worried. He didn't even feel the need to practice. He knew the incantation: silencio. And the wand movement was just a jab. Easy. He just wanted to get to the exciting part of the lesson. Were there more fwoopers? Were they all going to perform the charm?

All right..now that she had got the wand movement down.. it was time to practice the incantation!

"Si-LEN-see-oh...Si-LEN-see-oh.. Si-LEN-see oh.."

Azura was very carefully working on the pronunciation of the spell as that was one of the most important things.. that and intent.. but she had leaned early on that you had to say it right in order to get it to work..

She closed her eyes and rolled the word around in her head a bit.. Silencio! Silencio!

All right!

"Silencio! "

Okay, she got it! Let's hope it worked!

Silencing Charm. Paige was quite confident in her ability with that charm, but did go through the motions a few times to humor the professor after she rose from her seat to collect a pair of lilac earmuffs for herself. She may even be able to perform this particular charm nonverbally - which would be a beautifully ironic situation - but that was not entirely necessary. Once she was presented with an actual fwooper she would need to make the process as uncomplicated as possible. Mandrakes she could handle almost in her sleep...but fwoopers...well...that remained to be seen.

Twirling her wand between her fingers, Paige glanced around at her classmates as they practiced and, well, the only way to really know if one had done enough practice was practical application of the charm...right?

"If...anyone wants to practice the charm on me before applying it to an actual fwooper..." Paige offered meekly. Even in a worst case she was confident she knew the proper method for spell reversal treatment in this case. She could certainly handle reversing any swelling up to immense size and and any deafening sound making she may produce.

Better her than a fwooper, right?

As usual, Brooklyn had kept to herself during the discussion. Not that she had anything against birds. She did own one now, but she didn’t particularly have a fondness for creatures that could drive her insane. Certain people having that ability were enough, really. Therefore, she had stayed quiet, ostensibly listening even as she didn’t take many notes. She figured most of the information could be found if necessary. But back to the whole ‘song making people go crazy thing.’ She was all for studying interesting things, but that was a bit much. It hadn’t taken a lot to convince her to go up and collect a pair of earmuffs, green of course. She’d nearly had them over her ears by the time the professor had revealed the fwooper in the cage.

Giving the bird a bit of a glare, even as she acknowledged that it had been silenced, she took her wand out. In one respect, she didn’t really feel as if she needed to practice the charm, but on the other hand it gave her something to do. But she merely kept her wand in her lap, silently repeating the incantation in her head over and over until they were instructed to do something else. If anything, she could pretend she was silencing more than just the fwooper.

Char felt kind of ADORABLE wearing earmuffs, and it was distracting her, to be perfectly honest. Did anyone else feel this way or just her?? Earmuffs were great!

But she was happy to practice the spell, of course. Spells were always fun.

She did a few sharp jabs just to warm up, and then practiced the incantation too.

Bella sat quietly and listened as others gave their reason why someone needed a license to own a fwooper. She fully agreed with all the answers that was given because it would be very dangerous if someone didn't have a license and didn't that the necessary precautions to make sure their song didn't cause others to go insane.

She quickly wrote down a few notes, just in case she wanted to look over anything later. Once the earmuffs were placed on the desk, Bella grabbed a pair of light purple ones and put them on. So, they will be learning the silencing charm.

Bella watched as Professor demonstrated how to use the charm on the Fwooper, eager to try the spell for herself. She didn’t think the spell would be too hard to master. When the demonstration was over she started practice the wand movement. She made the sharp jab movement with her wand a few times until she felt comfortable with the movement.

Stuff was being said. A fair amount of stuff too, all of which was getting written down for future need. All that was being said was noted on her parchment and set aside once she was finished. Really though shouldn't there be more to having to get a license to own a Fwooper? She had to pass a test in order to own her crup that and didn't even seem like a problem creature to her. Strange the way some of these rules worked.

Taking a pair of earmuffs, pink ones to be exact she put them on. Tapping down the flaps to make sure the earmuffs were in place as they should be. Pulling her wand out of the holster on her wrist she gave it a little jab to prove she knew the movement needed. The incantation was also muttered several times under her breath. Not that she needed the practice for this charm but just to prove that she was indeed keeping up with the activity.

Walking around the students' table, Jordan observed the students if they needed any help with the practicing or maybe asked more questions. So far they had been doing good, although he should see if they could successfully do it on an actual fwooper.

There was a real life Fwooper sitting there in front of her! Oh it was so pretty and amazing and.. asdfghjkl!!! She couldn't believed it! They are actually going to work with Fwoopers!

This was pretty much a dream come true.

Okay! She needed to focus! She had a spell to do and a Fwooper to silence! She could ohh and ahh over it later when it wasn't singing and trying to drive her insane. Azura adjusted her earmuffs and smiled at the bird in front of her..

"Heyy there. I'm really excited to get to play with you, but I need to do this spell first okay?" She asked it with a smile.. Fwoopers! She just wanted to snuggle it!

Chill Azura! Spell first, snuggle later. She told herself as she took a breath.

She knew this spell wasn't easy, but then again she had learned Incarcerous and Oppungo not that long ago and those had been pretty simple. so! It was time to try! Though first she kinda wanted to try something...

Feeling incredibly sheepish in the moment, Paige tried to stick by her motivation for said tribute despite feeling slightly mortified at the professor's gentle reprimand. "Just...felt it would be safer," she admitted shyly. "Rather human loud noises than unpredictable risk of a fwooper's song being amplified with an accidental failed attempt..." Maybe? She knew how charms worked and the potential risks there, but not when it came to the make up of a creature. Fwoopers could cause insanity though...who was to say a failed Silencing Charm couldn't have the same long lasting effects of an adult mandrake or...

Buuuuuuuuuut moving along.

Paige slipped her earmuffs on, making sure that they were sufficiently covered, and readied her wand for the activity. Thank Merlin they were working with charms today, so Paige felt confident that she would not unintentionally inflate or otherwise harm her fwooper.

Smiling to hers - a vivid lime green colored one - Paige pointed her wand at it as it hopped closer to her. She saw its beak open and close, its plumaged throat vibrating and indicating to her that it was indeed singing, but she could hear nothing thanks to the earmuffs. "Silencio," she said softly, her voice coaxing and soothing so as not to spook the magical bird that seemed entranced by the "stick" being pointed at it - even going so far as to peck at the tip.

Kitty was relieved to hear that the song's dangerous effects wore off after a couple of hours, earlier she had been under the impression that you could only get your sanity back with magic. This made her feel better for all the muggles who might stumble upon a Fwooper by accident.

She tensed as she retrieved a light blue pair of ear muffs and placed them on...

"Ooh!" Kitty exclaimed as the professor revealed the young Fwooper and cast the silencing charm. So that's what a Fwooper looked like up close. The only pictures she had seen were drawings in books at the library, and it was fascinating to watch a real live one so close.

What? What was the professor thinking?? Jonas was only a third year! How was he supposed to use the charm? Then again, he had practiced the incantation but still. Jonas sighed. He guessed there was no harm in trying right? He sighed and looked at the fooper on his desk. He looked very phoenix-like with red feathers and such.
"Alright, let's try this," He said.
With the ear muffs securely on his head, he jabbed his wand towards the bird.
"Silencio" He called out. But nothing happened. He could still (Though muffled through the muffs) the bird's call. Jonas frowned.

Perhaps it was foolish on Az'a part to non verbally try a silencing spell when she hadn't even done it verbally yet, but she had been getting better at non verbal spells.

Okay.. so she could do all the first year spells.. and not all the time at that. But it was a work in progress, yeah? After all, she would never know if she didn't try right?

Right!

That was the uhh.. Ravenclaw Spirit? More like the Gryffindor Spirit,but alas

Azura smiled fondly at her Fwooper and adjusted her ear muffs a bit. She could tell it was singing cause its mouth was moving but thankfully her trusty earmuffs were keeping her sane for now.

The Ravenclaw jabbed her wand and then thought Silencio!

Did they really need the earmuffs? Nat was enjoying the way her hair looked today and she wanted to keep it that nice. No it wasn't a hat, but earmuffs still had that bartish thing that sat over your head. She looked around and noticed most were putting them one. Sighing she slipped hers on and went towards the fwooper. They seemed harmless enough. Looking at it she wasn't sure if the silencing charm was on yet or not, but as soon as it opened it's beak she knew it didn't.

"Silencio"

Seeing the bird singing, but no words made Natalia smile. She had studied the charm for her OWLs last term so the sixth year had known before coming that would be beneficence to us all to know.

Jonas looked over and saw an older classmate...well he thinks she was older anyway.
"Hey, can you help me?" He asked.

She gave the professor credit for not bothering her about her apparent lack of feeling as if she needed to practice. Brooklyn did appreciate that, even as she’d questioned certain other incidents during the little practice activity. Namely, people offering to be silenced instead of the fwooper. In all honesty, she didn’t think Paige was generally annoying enough for anyone to want to silence her, but she also didn’t see why Professor Hernandez had needed to officially decline the offer.

Maybe it was just because she had the earmuffs on, so she really wasn’t hearing much of anything. She’d slid them just slightly off of her ears when it appeared they were getting further instruction, but they were returned to their original position as the fwoopers had been revealed. She didn’t care if the effects only lasted a couple of hours. She wasn’t planning on letting a bird make her go crazy at all. As she’d thought earlier, some people did that well enough that she wasn’t about to give a bird the ability too.

She’d tilted her head a fraction to eye the fwooper on her desk, however. Amusingly, it seemed just as curious about her, but she wasn’t planning on letting it get too close. Instead, she raised her wand just the tiniest bit, giving it a warning as to what was to come. Thankfully, she couldn’t hear the response it gave her.

Oh so they be handling Fwoopers today? That’s exciting! Maybe not as exciting as flying monsoon hatcheries but living on the edge of the insane abyss exciting anyway.

So right practice they go. Tenacius wasn’t really much for silencing anything-- cooing and shusshing sure, but not gagging anything or anybody, magic or otherwise. So admittedly his skill level with this is pretty much beginners level. He made a few sharp jabs in the air with his wand while he mouthed Silencio to an imaginary fwooper. A few more minutes he got the hang of it, so much so that he was actually uttering the spell. But how would he know if what he's doing actually works?

Well he'd soon find out, because now they were being made to actually use it on baby fwoopers. He grabbed an earmuff and slapped it on his head.

Now for the baby fwooper. He stared at it for a moment, clearly the thing was already full on squawking what with how its beak and neck was stretching up. Ok so now the moment of truth. He pointed his wand at the little feather ball, jabbed the wand in front of it and uttered "Silencio!"

Did it work?

Did anyone else acctuallyyyy find it kind of tempting to like.... try being insane? Knowing it would only last a few hours and all that, wouldn't it be interesting? It was kind of safe right? AND Char wouldn't hate missing the next class....

.... ahem. Okay. No. She was going to behave. Maybe the previous year she would have taken the (very cute) earmuffs off just to see what would happen, but given this was a spell that she'd quite like to master to potentially use in duels, it was kind of in her best interest to apply herself, right? Right. Also the baby fwoopers were cuuute. Totally cute.

Anyways.

She examined the one in front of her. It.... wasn't singing though. How did you make them sing if they weren't? Was it better to wait to cast the spell?

Over the years Hadleigh had learned many charms 'silencio' being one of them. It had been learned a few terms back and mastered for her OWLs. So really her lack of practicing just then was somewhat justifiable, though she had went over the incantation and gave her wand a few small 'jabs' for the movement. It was something and probably more then she really needed to do anyhow.

The professor was saying something again and Hady had to push one of the muffs off of her ear just enough to be able to hear everything clearly. They would be silencing some very young Fwoopers today, this was okay with her. If the charm didn't work the effects of the birds song would last roughly two hours. While that wasn't all to bad in itself she didn't fancy being affected by the singing and going insane for any amount of time.

Down went the muff over her ear once more and it was patted in place just to make sure as was the other side. Prefectly in place. Just in time too. It seems each desk held a cage with a young Fwooper inside. Rather cute really the little one was. A small smile tugged at her lips as she watched it walk about in circles at the bottom of the cage. "Hey there...don't mind me much I'm not going to hurt you..." she whispered softly to it.

Raising her wand at the bird there was a small jabbing motion given along with the incantation, "Silencio." There wasn't any indication that her charm had worked though she knew it had until the Fwooper turned around and began to make noise. Only there was no sound just the sight of it's beak moving.

Was it just his imagination, or did the fwooper grow quiet?

Hard to tell yknow, what with the ear muffs on, ambient noise and his fwooper suddenly just staring at him with such an accusatory look that says-- you dare point your little wood at me??

What to do? Well what Gryffindors usually do when faced with the unknown-- crack their knuckles, grit their teeth and just GO FOR IT.

He lifted an ear muff off on one ear…. there is no sound? Slight relief showing on the Gryffindor's face… then again the baby fwooper was still just giving him that LOOK. Maybe his spell worked so well his fwooper couldn’t even open its beak? Is that how awesome his spellwork is? Psssh of course he's awesome, after all Gryffindors are--

*Fwooper whiiiiiiinnee*

GAH! FWOOPER WAIL OF DOOM! ABORT ABORT!!

He scrambled for his earmuffs again at the same time casting the Silencio spell this way and that, flat out panicked! "Silencio! Silencio! Silencio!"

Did it work this time? He could swear he could still hear it? Or is that just in his head? Is he insane now?.....

…. Then again, Tenacius Salander. Would anybody be able to tell the difference anyway?
