It's morning, but Rosalyn is wide awake and ready to start her lesson. Probably would have been worse if class was super early, but by now she had her coffee and feeling quite refreshed and energetic. Now all she needed was for her students to start arriving!
Sitting at her desk, she waits patiently. There is a plate of brownies laid out in front of her. These are for the students. By now they were used to her having snacks for them since she did this every lesson.
OOC: Hello, everyone! I will be starting my lesson in approximately 24 hours. Maybe a little later since I know it's American Thanksgiving. Feel free to chat among yourselves until class begins! LESSON HAS STARTED! No more arrivals. Please note that unless you want to suffer IC consequences it is best to pretend that you have been here for the entire time.

The seventh year was lingering on the questions posed by Professor Newton, only half hearing what her classmates were saying, and couldn't help but put herself in Harry's position and how she would, or would not, behave differently. As much as she hated to admit it...everything would have been different. Everything. Also, as much as she hated using the term because of it's association with Grindelwald, it was for the greater good...even if it was horribly calculating. But, in a sense, she supposed it was rather like if a professor were to give you all the answers to a test. Would you even bother studying for it? Would you gain anything? No. Not to mention by keeping information from Harry he truly became the Master of Death as he accepted his fate. Without that, well, his defeat of Voldemort would have been impossible really. So...in a sense...that decision saved their world. None of them would be here now like this if Dumbledore had done otherwise...
As for Dumbledore's greatest accomplishment? Well...she rather liked how he took the Elder Wand and proved that it could be used for good rather than destruction and evil. But perhaps that was too much of a Hufflepuff an answer...so she kept it to herself.
Thoughts that had distracted her long enough that they had moved on to the activity.................and Paige just stared blankly at the professor. Write a song...that was easier said than done. Could she opt out of music, something she was exposed to for obvious reasons but certainly not familiar enough with to write herself, and write an epic poem instead? If you squinted and looked sideways it was sort of a song...at least how the ancient Greeks used to perform things.
Needless to say...she was a very lost Hufflepuff at the moment.
"E l d e r w a n d," she said to herself, deciding she wanted that to be a focus once she got to writing...whatever this was going to end up being.

Cassie turned in the direction it had come from, brightening as the boy grabbing his belongings and coming towards her was offering to help and willing to work together. “Awesome...!” she replied in all honesty, hoping maybe between the two of them they would come up with something useful for the project they were supposed to be doing. “I’m Cassie,” she returned at his greeting, “Nice to meet you.” A Hufflepuff roughly her age, she noted as he sat down as she took note of his house patch.
As for said project… “So… do you have any ideas?” the Ravenclaw asked. “What I thought is we should definitely use an old song as I’m not exactly a song writer.” Unless he was of course. That was a possibility she realized and would make life oh so easier in this event if he was willing to supply something to work with. “Maybe something on his dragon uses…” That seemed like something no one else had thought to use and there was plenty of material with how many there were, over ten if she remembered correctly.
"Nice to meet you too, Cassie." Henry returned the smile as he arranged his things and pulled out a quill and parchment to get started. She seemed friendly enough which was always a plus when working on a class assignment together. Hopefully she had some good ideas though, because he was kind of at a loss.
And speaking of ideas, the fifteen year old hesitated as the girl asked if he had any. Not really, and not more than what she did, as he was thinking that much himself before he had come over. "Yeah, I was kind of thinking that too. I've never written a song in my life and I don't think it'd be that easy," he added with a chuckle. "We could just take a well-known song and swap out some of the words to fit Dumbledore's life." Or something about him. That was the best he had so far though. And that shouldn't be too hard, right?
But as for what specifically about Dumbledore to focus on, he really hadn't thought that far either. He looked up at Cassie when she voiced her idea though. "Oh.. yeah, sure. We could do it on that if you want to." Really, he was open for anything. "But I don't think I know all of the uses... there's twelve, right? I know dragon's blood is used in potions sometimes.." And him not being all that knowledgeable about it would mean that she would have to do a lot of the work, though he probably could think of good rhyming words. Songs usually had those. They wouldn't have to do twelve verses, would they?

Azura kept her head down as she worked, occasionally biting her lip as she tried to figure out the rest of the song.. she wasn't going to do ALLL of the song, because that would be long, but the first few verses and chorus should work well right?

Looking around, Rosalyn was pleased to see the students getting to work either by themselves or with a partner. She couldn't wait to see what they were going to come up with! Already she knew that it would be amazing. Yep, she was very happy right now.
"Great job everyone! You have twenty minutes left," she said as she glanced at her watch. "Remember that they can be as long as you want. For those using an existing song... If you feel you can't rework the entire song it's okay." In case they chose something with a lot of verses. There was no way that she would make them write THAT much. Especially not during a lesson.

Ollie couldn't help but beam when Juno said she wanted to do something really fun and goofy and whatnot. He hadn't actually thought his song would work but how could he not suggest it now???
"Okay, it might sound crazy, but I'm thinking Gangam Style by that guy Psy. It could be amazing!" He couldn't help but laugh at the thought of it. He was hoping it would definitely get Professor Newton to laugh too. Maybe a lot of laughing would lead to extra credit! One could hope.
Once he could manage to get his thoughts together he said, "Just imagine it. 'Albus Dumbledore....Dumbledore, Al, Al, Al, Al ALBUS DUMBLEDORE!" And now he was laughing all over again.

Juno was laughing. She was laughing so hard she thought she might pee herself, but she loved this idea. It was going to be fantastic. "OH, MY GOSH, YES!" She laughed some more. This would be perfect! "We absolutely have to do this!" She giggled some more.
She pulled out a piece of paper, "We should include how long his name is somehow and of course the important facts of his life." Juno wrote out the first chorus because that would be the easiest part.
"What do you think about this for the first chorus?" She asked showing him the paper.

Cassie noticed he hadn’t answered her question on his own ideas, but he did seem to be going along with the ones she was voicing. She guessed that was a good enough thing. Meaning she wasn’t completely out there with her ideas and he wasn’t going to be picky and prove that they couldn’t work together in the end. Not that she wouldn’t have given up her own way if Henry had come up with something that could work better. The Ravenclaw wasn’t THAT stubborn.

She looked to the list of accomplishments on the board, noticing the number next to the uses of dragon’s blood with confirmed her partner’s question. “Yeah…” Cass mused, her face falling slightly. Could they really work with all twelve? She too didn’t think she knew them either. “And I believe there’s at least one cleaning use…and a possible cure for some illness.” Her attention turned momentarily to her textbook before she grabbed it to search for further mention of Dumbledore to see if the rest were listed. However, the professor chose that moment to say they were running out of time.
“Bummer…I think it might take longer than 20 minutes to figure out all 12,” she mused with a sigh. In fact, she wasn’t sure they had enough time to do much. “A shame…we could have maybe used the 12 days of Christmas.” The coincidence in the numbering had seemed perfect.
Juno was laughing. She was laughing so hard she thought she might pee herself, but she loved this idea. It was going to be fantastic. "OH, MY GOSH, YES!" She laughed some more. This would be perfect! "We absolutely have to do this!" She giggled some more.

Some time had passed, and Juno was writing out the very last word of the song. It was absolutely perfect, and so freaking funny. She was so excited she bounced a little in her chair. "It's done!" She giggled and gave Oliver a one armed side hug.
She quickly wrote their names and houses at the top. "I'm going to hand it in." She grinned as she rolled up the parchment. She quietly headed towards the professor. "Here is our song, Professor. It's pretty fantastic. We hope you like it!" She gave a small smile and walked back to Oliver.

Nat wondered if they were going to have to sing this in front of the class or even in front of the school. That would be so weird if they would have to sing it in front of people. Not that she wouldn't, no Nat would sing in front of anyone, but the fact that it was a song about Dumbledore and she wasn't much of an on the spot writer. She needed time. Which was showing by her lack of finishing at the moment.
Then something hit her. She began scribbling on her paper and sang quietly to herself as she did. This wasn't the best but it was enough to get through the class. She couldn't help but smile at the song she did it with. She loved this song more then the rest it was one of her favorites to sing on stage and now she had weird words with it.

Henry had heard vaguely that dragon's blood could be used for those sorts of things as well, but they'd probably need to be more specific about the actual use if they were going to write a song about it. Maybe. He supposed they could cross that bridge when they came to it and right now it felt like they were running out of time. And far be it for Tenacius Astor Salander to back down from a challenge
His one parchment from earlier has grown into a small crumpled pile by his feet, having gone through a whole list of songs and lyrics he knew that he had to scrap out and started over. But he finally got a song down, not an original, but quite an apt selection to do a rewrite on, as even some of the original verses fitted Dumbledore to a T.
He heard Lady Newton call out twice now-- oh man how long has he been at this?-- and finished up his final parchment. With a big grin and a sigh of relief, he handed over his work to the Professor

A song? Harvey really wasn't quite sure about his song-writing abilities, but he supposed he didn't have a choice... besides, if a hat could do it, sure he could as well? He would try, anyway. It was for Dumbledore. One of his heroes! Though that was probably true for everyone else too... Shaking his head to make himself stop thinking about the song and focus on it, he took a deep breath, sat up straighter, and began to write.

Harvey read over it, and his expression fell. He really wasn't cut out for writing songs, was he?
Making sure the paper wasn't visible to any of his classmates, he sat quietly waiting for everyone else to finish. He hoped the Professor wouldn't make them share. He did not want to share this!

...but with the somber shift in the information being given, Olivia found herself greatly saddened by the fact that this man had lost so many important people in his life in such a short period of time. It was hard not to sympathize with something of that nature. Death was an unavoidable part of having life. All things died, you know?... And because of that, it was so important to remember to live your life while you had it.
She'd gotten lost in her thoughts.
The Gryffindor seemed to be doing that more and more lately.
Apparently, they were going to be writing SONGS for the late, great, Albus Dumbledore... and not going to lie, Liv was feeling some Disney inspiration coming on. But like, if they were allowed to do adaptations... gah, there were simply too many songs to chose from. And if time and experience told Olivia anything about herself it was that she was the epitome of trash at making decisions. Maybe she'd try something a little different... Different was good, right?
How different did sh want to go, though?
Trying to remember everything she knew about poetry which, let's be honest, wasn't much to begin with, but then recalled the time she'd spent with her mother in Japan. When her mum had been pregnant, she'd stayed there to get away from the stress of England. So, Olivia knew quite a bit about Haikus, which was Japanese poetry.
Flipping to a clean page in her notebook, she set about working on the very interesting 5-7-5 syllable lines. Nothing super fancy like some people might've been doing, but then again, a song (or poem in this case) didn't need to be super complicated to make you feel something.... right?

Rosalyn smiled at Mr Salander as he handed in his work. A final glance at her watch told her that it was time to wrap things up. Hopefully everyone managed to finish, but they would get credit for their work regardless.
"Okay, everyone. Time is up. You can hand in your songs and head out!" She hoped that they would all have a good rest of the day.
