So it was another lesson in History of Magic. If Kat was being completely honest she didn't like it too much but who would say no to a class where you got chocolate frogs. She headed into the classroom. "Hello, Professor Newton." Did else still get confused by the fact that there was two Professor Newton? It was a little weird.

Anyway Kat was feeling just a little on the sweet tooth side, so she took two today. She slipped one in her pocket and kept the other one in her hand. Kat looked around for a seat. Upon looking she opted for a empty quad of seats. Anyone coming in after her could sit with her. Maybe they were afraid to take the fourth seat of something silly like that.

Yep that was her mood today, not that it was a bad mood. She was just in History of Magic mode which meant the less distractions the better. Also sitting only could be a pass to make a new friend or two or three. She nommed on her chocolate frog happily either way.

Without much of her usual fanfare, Olivia had entered the History classroom and slipped right into a seat beside her favorite Newman. The day was a weird one, and she just didn't feel like being her... typical extroverted self.

She didn't even care about the chocolate frogs.

"Hey." It was said lowly so that only Chlo could hear.

Kimi walked into the history of magic classroom and said "Hello Professor Newton" Kimi took a seat that was free and waited for class to start

Oh! It was a Liv. Chloe liked a Livvy. And she noticed (and appreciated) the lack of fanfare, too. It was a nice change of pace all things considered.

Chloe smiled at her friend, "Hey yourself." Her tone was just as low.

Liv liked Chloe, too. Very much. Probably more than many, many others. For good reason, too. No one could draw a wing like this Ravenclaw.

"How are you?" The low tones persisted.

Running his tongue over his split lip, Tak entered the History of Magic classroom with his head held high. He wasn't embarrassed or shy, or even proud of his current appearance - split lip and slightly bruised face - he just didn't care. Eyes lingering in the Professors desk he didn't say a word before reaching into the bowl and grabbing about four of the chocolate frogs. Taking a seat at a random desk he started tossing his frogs in his bag. Everyone was doing the greeting their friends thing an that was cool. He just didn't want to.

Waaarrrrm classroom. That made for more attention to be paid to the actual lesson versus the nippiness of the surrounding area. That was always good and the Ravenclaw felt with the heated charms could loosen her scarf around her neck. Winter was one of the times Cassie was sure the boys had it easier with pants in their uniform versus skirts. It tended to make her want to break the rules sometimes…but usually only for a short time.

Making her way further inside, the girl took in her surroundings, debating where to sit. “Good day, Professor,” she greeted the womam before making her way towards Olivia and a fellow Ravenclaw in their set of desks. “Mind if I join you two?” Cassie asked, not wanting to just sit down.

The slytherin made his way to history of magic just to take a stab at it. He thought it can't be too hard. He liked a little bit of history. As he walked to the classroom, he saw the others have made it here already. Man did he take that long to eat? He saw the Professor was watching the class and he nodded to her. "Hello Professor.." Then he saw chocolate frogs and he smirked. He was impressed. "Nice sweets ya got there I prefer pumpkin pasties though.." he joked giving her a hard time. When he grabbed two chocolate frogs, he made his way to the table with his fellow slytherins. He felt he might as well hang out with his fellow housemates.

He nodded toward Natalia and Dalton. "Do you mind?" I mean not that he cared he would sit anyways. He wondered why they needed to be in groups but ah well.

History wasnt Noelle's favorite class but she needed it. She briskly walked into class and was surprised when the class was a nice and toasty warm. Mmmm... she hoped she didnt fall asleep in here. She'd been working too hard lately and her schedule was a little over-crowded. So sleeping had been a chore due to her mind running.

She pulled off her cloak, she wouldnt be needing out with the charms in place. Noelle's eyes searched for a spot to sit. She had started to make her way over to Olly, Char, Henry, and Owen, but bugger.... only a four person desk. She gave them a little wave and a smile, all of them being her friends.

She changed directions and headed to sit by Kat. "Hey Kat." She said brightly and sat down beside her. "Mind if I sit with you?" She'd seen Azura here too but she was already sitting with a few others.

Jace was about to ask Azura if she'd seen Jasper when the wanted boy suddenly dropped himself on the seat next to him, looking extremely cold. Without a word, Jace got his scarf from his bag and hanged it around Jasper's neck. "Here's a trick I learned from my papa..." Jace nudged the other Ravenclaw to get his attention, and started to rub his hands together. "Rub your hands together like this, and place it over your ears. It should help retain body heat if you don't have earmuffs." Oh, and the scarf should help too. He got rid off the chattering just moments ago thanks to it.

Jace turned in his seat, and gave Kitty a small wave. "Hi." the younger Ravenclaw said and grinned at their prefect. "Have you heard from...Lady Helena recently?" He wasn't too sure if her issue with the other ghosts have been resolved. Jace was genuinely curious about it.

Extra warmth was felt, and Jace grinned at Azura for her thoughtfulness. "Thank you." he said as he wrapped a part of the cloak around his hands, wanting it to 'defrost' before any note taking happens.

And...what's up with not liking the cold. He thought she liked...snow?

Jace considered her statement quietly, given that things had been rough for Azura this time of the year last term. "Have you heard of the adage, 'This too, shall pass.'?" he said grinning at his best friend, giving her an assuring nudge as well.

It was chilly chilly out side, but Katy wasn't bothered a bit by it. Her fingerless gloves had a warming charm, her step had a skip to it, and she wasn't feeling the weather at all. No, but she was feeling bummed that she'd shown up too late for a really really good seat.

Katy tossed her hair (tossed hair, don't care) and grabbed two chocolate frogs from the basket on the professor's desk. She claimed a seat near the middle of the room, not too far from Kat and Char. "Good day, Professor. Thank you for the chocolate."

Not that she was going to eat them. Instead, Katy opened the boxes with a flourish, releasing both frogs at once into the air. It was a race, see?

Juliette was running down the corridor to make it in time for her History of Magic. It was unlike her to be running late for class, but she had been in the middle of writing a letter to her mother thank t she had lost track of time. When she came up to the classroom, she slid it, almost falling a little as she did so, and looked around to see where an empty seat was located at.

She caught her breath before greeting the Profession, "Hello, Professor!"

She made her way to a desk in the corner of the room and nudge Cassie as she walked by her. "Come sit with me!" She smiled at her friend then went and took a seat. She was hoping Cassie would join her!

We had a new professor this year and Bradson didn't really know how he felt about that but then again he wasn't really close to the last professor. The last professor was a good professor but he just never really got to know if all that well. No one is Professor Paul. Anyway The third year Hufflepuff made his way into the lesson.

Brady could feel the winter air finally settling into the castle. He always loved the winter months. It was nice to sweat to death. As the Scottish stepped into the class he looked around at all of the students. He didn't know where to sit so he took the closest seat to where he was standing.

He just looked around the classroom, not really knowing what to do.

Oh! Dora turned and smiled brightly at the younger girl. How the Gryffindor had missed the other person.... wasn't really a shock, tbh. She had been focused on getting her desk arranged (and also kind of busy wondering wby none of her so called friends had sat with her. R U D E). But that was neither here nor there.

"Hey. I'm Dora! You know... I never eat food from professors. They have a horrible habit or putting potions in them around here." That wasn't exactly true... just the once had it happened to her, but color her put out!

As Cassie stood patiently awaiting an answer, she got a closer look to the two girls. Her Gryffindor friend seemed okay but her housemate seemed off. Had she made a mistake? No turning back now without seeming weird or just letting them make the choice. However another option soon made an appearance into the social situation of finding a seat and group.

She felt a nudge and turned to spot her friend Juliette responsible for the gesture causing her to smile. “Um…sure!” Cassie agreed after glancing at the other two. “Nevermind then…Hello anyway,” the Ravenclaw added with a friendly smile, taking her leave from Olivia and Chloe to follow the older girl to the corner bunch of seats.

Juno entered the classroom happily greeting the professor, "Hello, Professor Newton! And thanks for the chocolate!" She grinned hugely grabbing a handful of chocolate frogs. Hey...she had a healthy appetite and could never say no to chocolate!

Juno quietly found a seat at a table that didn't have anyone else at it. Hopefully someone would sit with her...or maybe she could just do today's class alone. She wouldn't have minded sitting with Colt...but she decided to just stay here instead, hopeful that someone would sit with her...or you know...call her over if there was a spare seat.

It was hard not to notice that the boy seemed less than enthused about being here but fortunately for him this lesson was not going to be too heavy on the content. She was going to give their brains a bit of a rest since the holidays were fast approaching. Also neat quill.

She too declined on taking any Chocolate Frogs and that was alright as they were available throughout the lesson so long as the students didn't get up to grab them while she was in the middle of talking. They would know better than that by now anyway, especially the older ones.

It was obvious to see that Mr Quinn was feeling the cold despite the fact that there had been heating spells put in place. "Hello," she said as she watched the boy shiver away. "Would you like me to make the class even warmer?" Some people really disliked the cold and she didn't want any of her students to be freezing.

He was more than welcome to take as many as he wanted since she had charmed the bowl to keep refilling itself. Wasn't magic just one of the most amazing things ever? She didn't know what she would do without it.

It was a joy to see all of her students even though some of them definitely didn't seem to share her enthusiasm for history. Oh well.

Pulling at the packaging of his candy, he waited for class to begin. Was it him or did Owen look sorta grouchy?

"Hello, Mr Whittebrook," Rosalyn said as she smiled back at the boy. He was also being polite and thanking her for the chocolate. "You are very welcome." While a lot of Professors didn't seem to like students eating in their lessons, she found that it wasn't a problem so long as they made sure not to make a mess.

She didn't believe that seating plans were necessary and liked to allow people the choice to sit wherever they wanted to. So long as they didn't talk when she was in the middle of teaching.

The next student to enter made a beeline towards her friends without saying hello. That was something that Rosalyn was not a huge fan of though she wasn't going to give punishments for it. Just was common courtesy. Anyway she wanted to know where the Chocolate Frogs were. "Hello, Ms Kettleburn. You can get the chocolate from the bowl on my desk."

She thought it was incredible how even with all the magic that happened around Hogwarts the castle was always cold in the winter unless spells were used. "Hello, Ms Umbridge," she said in reply as she watched the girl find a seat.

Heading back towards the blackboard, she glanced around the room at all the students. "Before I start the lesson, I have something to say. I noticed that a few of you entered the classroom and made a beeline towards a place to sit without so much as acknowledging my presence. That is not something that I like seeing and expect not to in the future." Was that something that they all understood? All that she was asking for was some courtesy. If this happened again in the future she WOULD be a lot more severe about it.

Anyway with that addressed it was time for them to start the lesson.

"As the Christmas holidays are fast approaching I have decided that this lesson will not be too heavy historical content." They would be expected to pay attention, however, and take notes of anything that was important. Just because they were having a lighter lesson did not mean that there was going to be no work to complete. If that was the case, she might as well cancel lessons all together and there was no way that was about to happen.

Four images of enlarged Chocolate frog cards were added to the board. "Here are four famous historical figures. I would like to start off by having everyone list ONE fact about any of them even if it is something as small as the year that they were born in. No more than one figure per person please." It was just good to get some idea of how well they knew some of the great minds from Wizarding history. All four people had something in common and that was going to be the focus of today's lesson.


OOC: Class has officially started! Please note that anyone who posts entering the classroom after this point WILL receive IC consequences. To avoid that, it is best to pretend that you have been here all along. Lesson will continue in roughly 24 hours.

Wait...chocolate frogs? Jace really wasn't paying attention much, given that he was busy with keeping himself warm. If it had been something nice and warm like soup, then he'd be definitely drawn to it. Merlin, he'd really need to cast more powerful heating charms on his clothing, especially his socks. He can no longer feel the soles of his feet!

Now, onto the lesson.

Jace waited until all portraits were revealed, and realized right away that they all have something in common. This made the Ravenclaw sit up straighter, temporarily forgetting about the numbness he felt on his feet. Raising one pale hand in the cold air, Jace waited for his turn to answer. "That's Ignatia Wildsmith, professor. She invented the Floo Powder." As soon as he retracted his hand back, he already has his quill in his hand, listing down the other great minds in front of them, and jotting down what he knows about them.

Christmas holidays. Another reminder that the term was crawling by at a less than glacial pace. Paige had been told that after the break things speed up, but she was a little hesitant to believe that. Maybe once she received her early action letter from university it would..but until then...slow. So very slow.

Sigh.

Still, her attention went to the enlarged chocolate frog cards and knew some without needing to read the names written at the bottom. Particularly one that had come up quite often in her own healing studies, which was why her hand went up and she was able to speak with some confidence. "Glover Hipworth," she began, nodding her head towards the number 58 card of the gentleman about to sneeze. "Is the inventor of the Pepperup Potion, which we now use as a cure for the common cold."

Something that perhaps several of her classmates would seek of the Healer soon enough given how much the cold seemed to be effecting them.

Inventors though...clearly the theme of the day...which had Paige start to consider the nature of these inventions and what sort of link there may be between them all. One for transportation, one for confectionary consumption, one for health, and one for practicality...hmm...

Staring at the professor she tried hard to find a answer to the question but she just had NO idea! Really no idea at all. To her the persons in the pictures were just… unknown persons to her. Had they been important? Hmm… She already had thought that Muggle history had been difficult while learning about it at her old school but now she needed to learn two different histories, one muggle and one wizard and she really had no idea! The muggle history lessons were easier if she needed to chose because she had grown up with it.

Not having a idea at all she kept her mouth shut and just listened to what the others were saying and when a name was mentioned more and was correct then she made a quick note to not forget about that person, or… She tried not to forget about that person…

Genny perked up at the professor saying they weren't going to have an intense historical lesson today. The third year sat up straight and gazed at the four enlarged pictures of those famous people. She's seen them all because hey, she was an avid chocolate frog eater but she did not know anything about them that would be said in a classroom.

... except for the Bott guy maybe. That was because her dad knew a few Botts. And her brother. Genny raised her arm, "Bertie Bott came up with the candy by accident. The Bott family remains wealthy and famous till this day, too." That was definitely an important fact.

Harriet loved history. She just found it really interesting, and so she really loved her history of magic lessons. Okay, sometimes they could be boring, when they were just reading and learning historical dates. But she hoped that it would be interesting today! She had her fingers crossed for that anyway. She tilted her head to the side as she looked at the pictures. She knew a few of them. She had collected the chocolate frog cards when she was little, so she knew a few people from them. Ooh. She knew some facts, because she had looked at the back of her cards.

Putting her hand up, she smiled then spoke. "That one is Bertie Bott. He created the candy "Bertie Bott's beans by accident. He was actually trying to create tasty treats, but created these beans by accident. I love them, though some of the beans aren't so tasty"

Smiling at the other girl she stuck out her hand, "Hi, I'm Leesha Griffel" she told the other girl still smiling and chewing on the chocolate but when she heard what Dora said she lost her taste immediately and swallowed the chocolate candy quick, hoping that she had not accidently gotten herself cursed! Looking down at herself she quickly checked if she still felt the same, hmm... Yes, nothing seemed wrong, for now...

Those bright blue-green eyes shifted from Paige to Blaise to Bentley and back again. So that’s what Quick Quotes Quills are. Sure he's heard of it, never really associated it with something that can actually help him in school, he thought it was a journalist thing. Very interesting indeed.

But oh Blaise got a customized quill apparently. One that over-embellishes. The Gryffindor Ace had to laugh at that "I bet it’s a most entertaining quill…." oh Bentley knows how to hook him up with one? "Well, I am more partial to custom-made stuff…" he nodded smirking. So yeah game on Bentley.

Oh lesson was starting. The boy leaned back into his seat as he looked up at the collectible cards Professor Newton has on display. Oh interesting. Bertie Bott he knew very well for several reasons, but the others were more obscure. Reading his text book he noticed something "Professor, all four of them are creative thinkers, because they all invented something, some out of need, some out of accident, but it seems theyre the kind of people who thinks outside the box."

It was one of the rare times that Owen wanted to be alone. Alas, his buddy Henry, was now plopping on the seat next to him. No alone time for him then. He forced a grin as he merely shrugged and mumbled, "Ehhh." Quick Quotes Quill? Well, Owen supposed they should get one but....ehhh.

More internal ehhhhing as Olly joined them too. But still he sent a nod to the Slytherin. He made not be in the mood but he was still polite...sort of.

And DAMMIT MERLIN another one. Who -- oh, t'was Charlotte. Owen stared at the Gryffindor for a few beats before looking at Henry. Let him do all the welcoming and talking. As for Noelle, she got a nod and small smile from him.

FINALLY FINALLY they were starting.

None of the too heavy historical content? Boo. Owen was ready to drown in boring history right about now. He was even planning to take a nap but noooo...Professor Newton was questioning the class about those four people on chocolate frog wrappers. Owen only knew one but from what he could glean from his classmates' answers, they all invented something that sounded significant.

Yep, every flavoured beans were significant.
