Paul had set up the portable dome greenhouse outside of the Hogwarts Greenhouses. The students absolutely could NOT miss it, and on top of that, he had given them notice that they had a lesson in the dome today. It had been here for a few days, now, though. Curious, really.
Upon entering the greenhouse, students would find it be stifling hot. Paul, dressed in a t-shirt and jeans along with running shoes, waited for his students with sweat beading down the back of his neck. But really, the climate in here had to be hot. He had warned them to dress comfortably for this lesson! He hoped no one wore a robe...they'd be dying! Positively dying!
Inside the greenhouse, there is a walkway where he students can sit, and on either side of the wide walkway are two different types of flowers.
On one side, there are these flowers:
A sign is posted in the dirt with the words 'SPECIMEN A.' These black flowers that resemble roses grow in bushes, much like roses do. They do not have thorns, though, and the petals and the stems of the flowers are all black in color. They do not have a smell, and their petals, as the students can see, smolder, producing an orange color emitting from the petals. Ashes fall from the petals every so often as the petals smolder lightly. The flowers crackle like the end of a campfire. The soil surrounding the flowers has turned a blackened color, indecipherable from the ash falling from the petals. Odd little flowers, aren't they? As the an enormous cloud covers the sun, the blossom part of the flower close up slight, and the smoldering lessons.
On the other side are these flowers:
A sign is posted in the dirt with the words, 'SPECIMEN B.' These are regular rose colors: reds, pinks, and whites. They are very visibly on fire; however, only the blossom of the flower is burning. The stem of these flowers are the normal green and are covered in thorns. These flowers give off a light rose scent, and the flames create a light whipping sound, almost like wind. Very light, though, hardly above a whisper. The soil surrounding these bushes of flowers is brown, the normal color of soil. As a cloud covers the sun, these flowers remain enflamed. The heat emitting from the flowers is...stifling. Good luck, students.
As students entered the Greenhouse, Paul pointed at board. "Come in and take your time to peek around the two different types of flowers, please. Once you have...explored them--please don't burn yourself all right? There is REAL fire--I would like you write ONE thing on the board--either under the similarities column OR under one of the two specimens. JUST ONE THING PELASE on what you observe about the flowers. I have buckets of iced bottle water if anyone feels the heat is too much!" Paul coughed a little, eyeing the enflamed flowers a bit.
OOC: Hello everyone! Welcome to Herbology Lesson II! Come on in, have your character look around if they so want, and if they do write on the board, make sure it is only ONE thing or Paul will fuss xD I'm probably gonna be moving on in about 24 hours or more!

Hmmm, so they did get watered... sort of. Azura nodded as she finished up with her fire rose and dusted herself off. She stood up and the Professor instructed them too and moved over to face him as he spoke.
Ohh! They were going to make Floo powder? Or well the start of it anyways. That was pretty cool!
Grinding stuff in mortar and pestles was old hat for Azura due to potions, so she got right to the activity. The third year pulled her gloves back on and moved towards a Floo Flower plant.. she knelt down beside the smoldering roses and smiled gently down at them. She really loved this flower, it was so pretty.. The black color, the smoldering petals, the slight sound of fire.. it was all so pretty and soothing..
Azura carefully ran her small gloved fingers over a flower and carefully selected a petal from it. She gently tugged on it and smiled as it came off in her hand.. There. One down, four to go.
Woah! Bella watched as the rosebush quickly started to burn again. It was no longer safe to handle, so she pointed her wand at it again and casted the water charm for a second time to dowse the flames. That did the trick, but she wonders how long it'll take before it started to burn again. She didn’t want to waste anytime just in case it did.
Careful not to damage any part of the rosebush she dug it out of the dirt, while trying to pay attention just in case the flowers ignited again. She got it into the pot before the fire started to come back to life and she quickly poured more water on it. That was close. Bella thought as she continued to fill the rest of the pot with dirt. She carefully pressed it down making sure it was nice and secure before she moved on to anything else.

What in the world?!
Hady's attention was caught by something flashing brightly around. A flower. A flaming flower! Was that boys hair on fire?! It was as a strong spray of water effectively hit the kid in the face putting on the flames leaping from his hair that she got to see who it was. Matt. Mischievious young one that kid was. "Nice spell work Paige!" she sent a smile and nod of approval at her fellow seventh year. Quick action taken too.
What were they supposed to be doing now? Oh, yeah. That's right they were to leave their potted flaming flowers and move over to the floo flowers. Doing just that Hady listened to the very simple instructions that were given. Five petals from five flowers and then to grind it up into a powder. Bag it and label it. Got it.
First things first though. To get started she fixed her gloves making sure they were nice and secure about her fingers and wrists. Then it was time to gently pluck off five petals from the floo flowers from five flowers. With her flower petals in hand all she needed now was the mortar and pestle which she went to collect for herself from the front where they were being kept. Setting her five flower petals into the mortar Hady used the pestle to gently grind the petals into a dust.
It only took a little while to get this done and when she was finished she went to the small table by the board and got a plastic baggy. The petal dust was carefully poured into the small bag which was then sealed and labeled.

The fire didn't even have time to reach his SCALP when all of a sudden a jet of COLD water hit Matt in the face.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGGGHHH!!!" He dropped all the flowers he was holding as he fell backwards. More flailage happened as the water CONTINUED and MERLIN, THE FIRE WAS OUT ALREADY.
Somebody tell the crazy Hufflepuff.
When the jet finally stopped, the Gryffindor stayed on the floor for a bit longer for dramatics. And also because that jet had been crazy strong. Sheesh.
Matt heard professor Myers call the Hufflepuff an enthusiastic hero. Oh, she was enthusiastic, alright. Still lying down, the third year lifted his head to have a look what was going on. A girl was yelling because her flowers had caught back on fire. Matt looked at the flowers he had been working with and they seemed DEAD. He didn't know any better, though, so, stiilll lying down - he was going to milk it, okay - he picked his roses back up and stared at them. "Are they dead? They look dead. I feel dead too." And he dropped his head back down.
That was quite comfy, actually. And wet. Very wet.
...
OH, FLOO POWDER FLOWERS, Matt wanted to make his own Floo Powder, MAN. So he before anyone could approach him or anything, he LEAPED up and rushed to where those flowers were, not bothering to dry his hair, face or clothes. It was quite refreshing, actually, to be soaking wet in that hot place.
Awesome! Where to START? Matt looked around to see what his classmates were doing because he hadn't paid attention to what the professor had said after he mentioned Floo Powder.

Nat had noticed the fire students, but really didn't give them to much attention. Paige had already taken care of the one so no need to even move from her roses. Plus if she did they could start flaming again and she could get burned. It was best that she just focused on her own plant and let the seventh years and professor be the rescuers. Nat would never consider herself in that group as it was anyway.
Pulling out her parchment again she took down notes on what they were doing. This was why she needed to be a singer and not a potions master or herbologist. Picking petals off roses just seemed to be a waste to her, but she did like to floo so the petals woudl have to take one for the team. Once they were allowed to start she got up and placed her gloves back on.
Moving to the roses she picked the petals 1 from this one, 1 from that one. She walked over to the next set of roses 1 from you and 1 from you and now 1 from the last one. Moving back to her seat Nat put them in her mortar and began to crush them down.
Allllriight so we were making the basis for floo powder huh? Well Jonas already had his gloves on. So, the next step was to....gather petals from the flower. Thats what he did. When he got five of them, taking care to be gentle to the plant,he set the petals aside and then got a pesal and bowl. Why couldn't thry just call it a hammer and bowl? Seriously. It would be a lot simpler.

Harvey took notes quickly as more information was unloaded at them. Hot. Floo powder. Right.
Getting his gloves on, he picked a clump of roses and carefully picked five petals. Got it. Easy enough.
Then, mortar and pestle (with gloves? without? what if the dust got on his hands? would that burn? with gloves just to be on the safe side...) he ground the petals into a dust and managed not to spill it anywhere. Great.
Now, small bags... carefully, now, slowly... yes, it was all inside!
Happy with himself, Harvey hastily scribbled a label.

Crushing the petals was easy since she had to do it in potions as well. She let her eyes move around the room and watch the other students working. If anyone needed help she'd offer, but everyone seemed to be doing fine other then a few trying to burn their hair off. Looking back down she noticed that the petals seemed to be fully crushed so she set the mortar down and headed to the front of the room.
Once she had her bag she came back and placed the crushed petals into it. It would be kind of neat to get back floo from something she had helped make. Dumping the contents in she picked up her ink changing quill to write her name and label the bag correctly.
Now that he got the petals and pestle and stuff, he put the petals in the bowl and started to crush them into a fine dust. once they were crushed, he put them in a bag and used his quill to write the label. Did he get to keep his own floo powder? That would be cool.

As Aoife waited for her classmates to catch up, she inspected her nails very closely, letting out an inpatient SIGH every now and then. How hard was it to pot a plant? Her eyes did flicker up briefly as a student had managed to set his hair on fire, but before she could FREAK OUT and possibly cry, another student had extinguished it. A student. Not even the professor had noticed in time. Jeez, health and safety.
After that drama was over, the lesson was moving on to the Floo plant-things. This sounded interesting actually. Maybe Aoife DID like Herbology.
She put her gloves back on, because she had to remove them before for nail inspection, and studied the flowers in front of her. Her fingers wiggled above the first flower. It had to be quick as it was hot, but it also had to be gentle. Right. Aoife placed two fingers around a petal and plucked it from the flower. It came off pretty simply actually. "Oh." She moved on to four more flowers and did the same motion and viola - she had her five petals. Easy peasy. Aoife strutted to the front to fetch herself a mortar and pestle, and she flicked the professor a toothy smile as she did so.
Placing the gear back at her working area, Aoife carefully picked up the five petals and placed them very neatly into the mortar. Deciding to keep her gloves on, she smushed them to smithereens. It was quite therapeutic, actually. It didn't take long for the mixture to look how it was supposed to. Aoife smiled proudly after tipping her dust into her container. Look at all of that power in one little bottle. She could POOF right outta Herbology class right now.
Wait, that wasn't how Floo Powder worked, was it? She'd never travelled via it before so she wouldn't know.
Aoife labelled her container with a cute little heart underneath her name, placed it in front of her, and waited for the next instruction. She was suddenly daydreaming about possible Herbology extra curricular activities. Would that be cool?????

Well, it wasn't every lesson you got to plant things that were actually on fire, and Sam was taking it all in her stride. It didn't take her long to get her Rosa Igniferas replanted; her aguamenti charm had improved muchly over the last term, and afterwards she carefully dug around the roots and resituated it into her pot. Lovely job.
Pleased with herself, she sat and waited patiently for the rose to reignite. It would reignite, right? So pretty!
But then they moved on to Floo Flowers, and as she'd hoped from the name, they were a main ingredient in Floo powder. How exciting was that? ...and just as she thought the lesson could get more awesome, she learnt that they'd get a jar of floo powder made from their the petals they collected. Super cool!
Adjusting her gloves, Sam surveyed the flowers in front of her. It almost seemed a shame to pluck the petals, but she supposed that's why they had to take them from five separate flowers. She practised the picking motion a few times in mid air, before choosing her first flower. Gently does it...

Fire rose safely planted and watered, Brooklyn had honestly nearly forgotten about its existence as the lesson had continued. Apparently there really wasn’t anything else she had to do for it, and therefore she wasn’t about to worry about the rose any longer. As long as it didn’t light her hair on fire or anything, and she was keeping herself well away from it anyhow. There were going to be no hysterics from her, and she’d eyed the younger Gryffindor as he played dead while Professor Myers had continued the lesson. It was all just ridiculous, really. Nobody had gotten hurt.
Floo powder. It wasn’t her preferred method of transportation, not since she could Apparate now, and even when she hadn’t been legally able to she had still preferred side-along Apparation over Floo transportation. Too much ash to deal with, but at least their assignment was close enough to Potions that she didn’t have to be quite as ambivalent. Nor was she dripping wet as she had approached the Floo flowers, gloves still securely on her hands. As if she was going to have taken them off before the lesson was over. Gently plucking a petal from five different blossoms, she collected a mortar and pestle from the front, along with one of the little plastic bags, before applying herself to crushing the petals into a fine dust. Said dust went into the bag, carefully labeled with her name and pertinent information, and then she sat back to wait again.

Paul hummed to himself as he worked, eyeing the students around him to make sure no one was catching fire, or trying to sneak the roses out of the greenhouse...absolutely not, kiddos! It seemed that just when he thought he’d make it through the lesson without ANYONE catching fire at all, a Gryffindor happened.
Of course.
He didn’t even have a chance to continue his conversation with Paige Skeeter, no, because the badger had sent a, well, perhaps TOO well placed aguamenti on the boy. He covered his mouth to keep from laughing.
“Wow, Miss Skeeter...that was...enthusiastic! An enthusiastic hero, eh?” he smirked, but soon enough his eyes caught sight of ANOTHER FIRE EMERGENCY?! Paul was about to help her out when Kitty seemed to get it under control…’Be careful Miss Valentine..” THEY WERE DEALING WITH FIRE.
Abandoning his pot before finishing the potting process, he merely nodded at Paige. “Finish that up for me,” he whispered before moving to the front of the room to proceed with the lesson! ONWARD!
“Now, once everyone is finished up with their fire roses...leave your pots where they are and move your bodies AND your attention over to the black flowers--the FLOO FLOWERS--” he wiggled his fingers ominously, as if this were the REAL treat of the lesson [s]which, come on, it was![/I] “There are a few things I want to go over about them before we actually get started with what we’ll be doing with THEM.”
Ahem.
Meaning, take notes!
“Now, Floo Flowers have been around...for a good long time. A witch named Ignatia Wildsmith, however, is the reason we have floo powder! It’s rumored that she had been toying with the idea of both of these flowers--” he gestured at the floo flowers and then at the fire roses. “But for whatever reason, she picked floo flowers. And that is why we call it floo powder!” he explained. “Now, the flowers only begin to smoulder in the summer time...and as the season goes on...they slowly crumble into ash,” he sighed a bit. It was...a beautiful image. “If any of you ever get the chance to witness it, I highly recommend it. It’s...beautiful,” he said gently.
“They ARE hot to the touch! And we get floo powder from their petals...by grinding their petals up. NOT from the ash they produce. As you can see,” and Paul bent down DRAMATICALLY to SWEEEEEEP up the ashy soil from which the floo flowers seemed to spring out of, “The soil floo flowers rest in start to develop a very ashy quality from housing these guys. Floo flowers ARE also a cousin of the fire roses, as I explained before! "
He let the soil drop from his hand back onto the ground.
“Now, I thought it’d be...interesting if we procured from these floo flowers the petal dust needed to make floo powder...and I would simply send them away to the Ministry, to the Transportation department...where all the rigamarole involved with making floo powder can happen. But...then each of you gets a small jar of the finished product from the petal dust you yourself produced!” He smiled. “SOOO...since the flowers are hot to the touch, if you could put your gloves on…” he put his back on. “And...go right in, pluck the petals GENTLY from the flowers. Five petals...from five different flowers, please, if you can manage it. There should be enough flowers for all of you do that with!” He took a deep breath. “Once you have your five petals, grab one of the mortar and pestles from the front...and grind up your petals to a find dust. Once THAT is done…” Paul whipped a little plastic baggy from atop the table that was in front of the blackboard. “GRAB THIS and put the dust in here. Label it. Place it back on the table here…”
He grinned.
Once that was done...they could do the COOL THING he wanted to do.
OOC: SORRY I'm taking so long guys! Busy Uni week for me, unexpectedly O_o Anyways! I'm giving this about 24 hours, all right? Whee! Easy enough, <3

Awesome! Where to START? Matt looked around to see what his classmates were doing because he hadn't paid attention to what the professor had said after he mentioned Floo Powder.
Hearing Hadleigh 's praise - thank you, by the way - but still a bit to wide eyed and deaf from her heart pounding in her ears thanks the image of one of her classmates being on fire to properly react. Something she would feel bad about later, no doubt, not even uttering a soft 'thank you' in reply. The Hufflepuff's words may not have been heard over the roar of the Gryffindor anyway.
Squeaking when she saw the flames extinguish but water not ceasing - hello there Paige, you needed to do something about that - she gave her wand another flick to cast Finite and stop the steady jet of water from all but drowning her classmate. "OHMYGOSHAREYOUALRIGHT?!" she asked after rushing over to the younger student's side. Between the fire and the water and everything? She WAS in training for healing and...on thank Merlin it looked as though the flames had not yet licked his scalp. Just his hair...and...oh...um...well...there were potions to deal with hair growth...and really that bald spot wasn't all THAT noticeable...
...was it?
um.................
"NO!" she assured him with some rapid shaking of her head. "Aguamenti won't hurt them...and you are very much alive as well."
And then there was some profuse blushing happening thanks to Professor Myers calling her an enthusiastic hero...which was hardly synonymous with the words she would have chosen in that moment to describe herself. "I...um..." Cue the flustered big blue eyed Hufflepuff look. She was still registering a few thoughts and steadying her heart when her Head of House made a request of her. "Oh, sure thing, professor," she nodded, overJOYED at the distracting that finishing up the planting process provided - even if it meant she was somewhat missing the next set of instructions by the Herbology professor.
Bringing her own finished pot with her, Paige used her hands once again to scoop the plant out of the ground. Working much more quickly this time because Professor Myers had opted to use Aguamenti, although something she was comfortable with now that she had gone through the replanting process once with her own plant, the seventh year place the fire rose into Professor Myers' chosen pot and began scooping up soil with her bare hands and gently patting it down. She could feel the glow on her cheeks returning to the roses, the gentle heat warming her cheeks like smirk of a certain WADA student so often did, and Paige readied her wand as she quickly finished up. Just in time as well seeing as no sooner had her left hand left the pot the roses came ablaze once again. Calmed down enough to focus, Paige cast gentle Aguamenti's at the soil in both pots to water the roses and then set to casting a Flame-Freezing Charm on the one belonging officially to Professor Myers. "Here you go, professor," she smiled as she brought his pot back over to him and offered it back with a bit of an eager bounce as she really wanted to get her hands on the Floo Flowers next.
Although the instructions to wear gloves was a little...well...not being able to feel the texture of the petals with her fingers was a disappointing.

Man, it was hard to pay attention when kids were on fire and stuff like that. But Henry tried, he really did, because he did find these floo flowers and fire roses to be pretty interesting. It didn't mean he was taking notes though, but he did try his best to listen.
Once he had replanted one of the fire roses, he turned his attention to the floo flowers. So they'd get their own little jar of floo powder after it was made at the Ministry? That part was pretty cool too. He did wonder why just one petal each from five different petals, but he wasn't quite curious enough to voice that question aloud, so he simply pulled on his gloves to get to work.
One.. two.. three.. four.. five. Henry laid each of the petals out on the table in front of his in a neat order before heading up to the front to grab a mortar and pestle to start grinding them up into powder.

The fire accidents hadn’t seemed all surprising going on. You kinda were just asking for it with the plants they were handling. Cassie was just glad things weren’t happening to her at the moment as she tried her best not to set anything off as she worked on the task at hand. Thank goodness for gloves, that was for sure. Soon enough, the professor got their attention once more.
So they were moving onto the floo flowers.
Cassie listened intently to Professor Myers explained his intentions, her eyes widening slightly at the mention of the outcome that would be theirs to keep. How cool to know the floo powder in your home was created in part by your own hands?! Speaking of hands, she hadn’t taken her gloves off so they were still well and truly protected. 5 petals…didn’t seem so hard…even from different plants. So once everything had been explained, she set about the task at hand, approaching the first bunch with a specific flower already in mind.
It took some maneuvering, mostly to avoid getting caught on fire, but finally the Ravenclaw had her first petal. “Yes!” she remarked half-excitedly at her success. One down, four more to go. Moving onto another flower from a different angle, the third year had a little better luck in retrieving her second petal. Cassie repeated the process for three more petals, relaxing once she had them all. Now she could move onto the preparation and leave the burning plants be. She retrieved a mortar and pestle as directed, double checking its cleanliness out of habit with a “scourgify.” The third year then placed the petals inside and proceeded to crush them.
Once she was satisfied with the consistence of the ground dust, Cassie proceeded further, grabbing a baggy and putting her collection inside. It was then labeled with her name, year and house and returned where she had gotten the bag from.

Toddling back to get a bit more soil, the Gryffindor carefully collected and toted a scoopful towards her workstation... opting to 'top off' her pot before refocusing her efforts on this coal!black, more fascinating specimen. The one she'd personally gotten excited for. Again, just between us. She'd never dream of offending the Herbology Professor by suggesting any of his flowers were lame or pointless.
... And as for the classroom fires and dramatics, she hardly cared as it had nothing to personally do with her. If Liv wasn't the one causing the drama, the drama simply wasn't important. To her. Such is the way of dramatic Glittery!Lions.
Hmmm, but these Floor Flowers.... How neat and dramatic would it be, though, to toss one of these roses into a fire to activate transport? -- 'Donovan, I'm leaving you!' (fiery flower toss) 'I bid thee, adieu.' -- It'd be something to consider for a theatre project, maybe... which she'd be doing alone moving forward; given things. Things not to be thought of right in this moment.
Pausing in her work to jot these notes down, Olivia cursed herself once more for NOT remembering the Quick Quotes quill Blaise had purchased for her. The blonde could've saved herself leagues of trouble if she'd just allow something to do her writing for her. Alas, her terrible memory. TODAY... once she got back to the dorms, she'd remember to place the quill carefully into her bag. Merlin, help her remember...
Ahem, so... Ashy soil composite thanks to the slow erosion? of the black roses themselves. Hot to the touch, meaning she'd need to keep her gloves on... From the way Professor Myers explained the process, it didn't seem lengthy or complication, so Olivia felt confident diving right into the activity. Moving amongst the roses carefully, so not to knock any of her classmates into the burning plants, she went about carefully selecting her five petals. She was supposed to pull all five, individually, from different plants, and she wondered at that, pausing in her plucking to raise her voice. "Sir, why do you think it's best to collect the petals from different flowers?" Each different Floo Flower grouping was considered a different specimen, yea? That might've been incorrect... She'd just watched the muggle ID channel once and they'd mentioned that there could be notable differences in comparing like plants. Or something. Too much thinking. Eh, don't mind her brain.
Back to collecting her petals. One from five different Floo Flowers presented to them. As was mentioned, they were kinda already disintegrating right between her fingertips, but Liv did her best in keeping them whole, even having to recollect two of the petals when ones previously gathered totally fell apart. EH. Notes to learn about "gentle"... "Gentle" was tough for Gryffindors, didn't you know?
Now.... just pound them in the mortar? Like potions ingredients? A fine dust was mentioned, but she wasn't nearly as dubious about the task, as the petals were already pretty degradated. Collecting a pestle, as well, she set to work, rubbing the end in and around the bowl of the mortar. For a solid five minutes.... finally putting the pestle to the side to find that the petals were, indeed, dusted.
Labeling her baggy before filling it, Liv slowly dumped the dusty contents through the opening. After sealing it up, she trekked back to her workstation.... Er, was she supposed to clean the things after she'd used them?

Pluck!
Azura carefully selected her leaves from the Floo Flowers, her purple eyes studying the flowers closely as she peered down into the smoldering petals.. she wanted to make sure she took just the right petals.. you know.. for the flowers safety..
Her small gloves hand hovered over the next flower and she selected a petal from off the top. There now the flower looked even..
She smiled as she looked down at the three petals in her hand and then moved onto the next bloom in her flower bunch. She studied it closely before gently picking a petal off the side. Four down one to go.
The last petal came from the last blackened rose and she took one from the bottom this time. She wasn't sure if certain petals would help out the Floo Powder but it never hurt to have variety right?
Right!
Now that ahe collected all her petals, she rose and moved towards the front. She collected a mortar and pestle and set her petals down in the mortar..
Fine dust hmm?
Consider it done Professor. She had lost count of all the times she had ground up ingredients for potions and this was no different.
Grind Grind Grind..
In a few moments the Ravenclaw had a fine dust and she put it in the plastic baggies carefully and then labeled it.
Once Henry returned to his workstation with a mortar and pestle, he set about finishing his work. It was a little easier to pay attention now that he had a set task in mind, and especially now that some of the fires and other commotions had been tended to.
He didn't really give a thought to if there might be a best method of grinding, doing the petals one by one or just putting them all in, he simply scooped up all five petals with his gloved hand and dropped them into the mortar. Picking up the pestle, he began grinding the petals, noting how easily the broke down and began forming an ashy powder. He supposed that would make sense due to the nature of the plant.
Done with that part, Henry went to retrieve a plastic baggy and returned to his table yet again. He dumped the contents of his mortar into the little bag, using a gloved finger to scoop out the last bit of ash into the bag as well. Finished with that step, he pulled off his gloves and labeled the bag with his name, year, and house.

Miranda practically danced in her chair upon hearing that they'd be basically making their very own little bit of Floo powder... Like... Seriously?.. How cool was that?!
Mkay, So Five petals total... From five different roses... Seemed easy enough as she donned her gloves again and made her way to the smoldering flowers....
As she came nearer she couldn't help but be drawn to the way the glowing petals seemed to almost appear to be breathing. The way the ember of it grew and fell. She smiled to herself at their affect on her and set to chosing the petals she wanted. One at a time she plucked them carefully from their stems.. the first petal taken from the third rosebush into the row.. The second took a bit longer to find.. She was trying to find the largest petals.. Figuring she'd get more Floo powder once they were ground up..
Finally after about ten minutes she had the 5 petals in her gloved little hand and went and retrieved a mortar and pestal from the table and went back to her work space.. In went the five rosepetals into the pestal and she set to grinding them into a fine powder... After a few short minutes she had the powder consistancy that she was happy with and went to go and get the bag she was to submit it in.
Labeling the bag with her name, year and house; she then poured the bit of Floo powder she herself had made from one of the coolest magical plants she had ever seen.
"I'm fineeeeeee and you need to chill out!" Matt told the crazy Hufflepuff he didn't really know as he rolled in the puddle she had created. More like a lake, really. Lies. If it felt anything like a lake he would NOT be there. Still. SO MUCH WATER! And bald spot? He was oblivious to that.
He wasn't sure how to respond to her remark about him being alive - um... he knew? Lol, crazy AND literal! - so he gave her a confused look that turned into an amused smirk. "I am indeed, thanks to YOU!" He would leave out the fact she almost drowned him, 'cause, y'know, Matt knew she was just trying to help. Lol. Besides, he was just exaggerating anyways since he knew that was nothing like drowning for real. Oh, he KNEW, alright.
Aaaand she was off to continue to be a teacher's pet and as Matt hadn't really paid attention to the instructions, he followed along. She was too careful and sloooooooowwwwwwwwwww for his liking, so he started to rush the process.
One, two, three... ohwait, the petals shouldn't be from the same flower... wasn't that what professor Myers had said at some point? Matt could recall as if in a dream.
...
Oh well. Four and five petals from the SAME flower. No biggie. It wasn't like it was going to DIE, was it?
Now what? He just stood there with the five petals on the palm of his gloved hands. OH, RIGHT!
CRUSH 'EM! RAAHH!! Matt liked that part. He grabbed a mortar and pestle like his other classmates were doing, chucked the petals in the mortar and started the crush crush crushing process.

Ta-da! Kitty stood back and breathed a sigh of relief after she finished re-potting her fire roses. For a moment she had almost gotten burned but thankfully she hadn't been touching the petals when the flower caught on fire.
Now they were moving on to the Floo Flowers. Professor Myer's story about the history of Floo flowers was very impressive. Now she understood why he hadn't elaborated on her earlier question about their name - he was saving it for this part of the lesson. Kitty imagined how it would look late in the summer to see a Floo flower bush turn to ash, like a Phoenix. "That's really beautiful Professor," she said, raising her hand. "And then their seeds rise from the ashes next year, right?"
Activity time! This looked fun. Putting on a pair of gloves, Kitty moved over to one of the Floo flowers. "Don't catch on fir on me now," she said jokingly to it, though of course she knew it couldn't. Carefully she plucked five petals and grinded them with the mortar and pestle. It was quite enjoyable seeing them turn into ask as they were grinded. Once all the petals were ash she poured it into a bag and labelled it:
astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf
Leaving Professor Myers with his pot, Paige moved her attention from blazing Gryffindors to smoldering Floo Flowers and somewhat reluctantly pulled on her work gloves. It was...beyond tempting to administer a few charms to her hand and the flowers...but she had already danced her way around the instructions for the first task so she really ought to just go with the flow this time. Go with the flow for Floo Flowers!
Opting to grab her mortar and pestle first, Paige pocketed the latter and then approached the flowers and balanced the mortar in her left have while her eyes scanned the first flower for a petal that - once she plucked it - would keep the flower from looking too much like a piece of itself had been ceremoniously ripped from itself. Being as careful as possible, Paige took one from the outside and set it in her mortar before moving on to the next flower and repeating. Once she had all five of her petals, the seventh year plopped herself on the ground in front of the Floo Flowers and began methodically grinding the petals into a fine powder. Wand out, and with plenty of open space between the bags and herself with no real threat of anyone walking in the way of flying plastic, the brunette summoned herself a plastic bag and carefully poured her powder inside and sealed it up. Gloves off now, she then snatched her quill from her bag and scribbled her name, house, and year on the bag.

And then she couldn't help herself as she glanced over her shoulder at the Floo Flowers and eager fingers came dangerously close the petals. She could feel the heat radiating and wrapping around her fingers while still being far enough away without risk of her fingertips brushing against the black flora. The heat intensified as they moved closer and enough so that the Hufflepuff's curiosity was tamed and her borderline trance-like state broken. Right, she needed to bring her powder up to the front!
Which she was going to do. Right now.
Dusting off her skirt, Paige dropped off her bag on the table and....was going to go sit over by the fire roses so she didn't become tempted once again to touch the Floo Flowers with her ungloved fingers.

Bella was a little shocked at how many people were having trouble with the fire. It was obvious that they needed to be a lot more careful and pay attention to what they were doing. It was never good to play with fire.
She was ready to move onto the floo flowers and listened carefully as they were being explained. She even wrote down a few notes so she didn't forget anything important. When they were informed that they would get a jar of their own floo powder, she couldn't wait to get started.
Bella fixed her gloves as she moved closer to a section of the flowers, ready to start. “Careful.” She muttered as she reached out to pick her first petal. It wasn’t too easy because she was slightly worried about burning herself, but she eventually managed to pick one and soon four more followed.
With the hardest part done, Bella went to grab a mortar and pestle so she could ground up her petals. She examined them to make sure they were clean, before dropping in her collected petals and proceeded to crushing them. It took a few minutes before she had it perfectly grounded into dust and she could move onto the last step. She bagged up everything, sealed, and labeled her collections.
When Matt thought he had done enough crushing of the petals, he went to get a plastic bag for himself and then quickly poured the Floo Powder (?) into it. He tied it up and scribbled his name on it before dropping it in front of him.
Was that it? He looked around and it seemed like his classmates were pretty much doing the same, sooooo that meant Matt was done!? How quick and easy. Too quick and easy. Matt was bored.
He looked back at the fiery flowers he had left on the ground, which were back to being on fire - woops - and grabbed them by the stems. He was careful enough not to let his hair catch fire this time, even though he still didn't put the fire out. He waved the flowers a little for another while because seeing the fire go back and forth was pretty awesome.
When he was done entertaining himself with those, he put them in the pot he had started working with previously. After adding some more soil to it, he patted it down, still being careful enough not to let anything catch fire - which made EVERYTHING more fun and that was his reason for not using Aguamenti, realy. That part would've been a lot quicker and easier to do with the Aguamenti and he would've been booreeeddd really soon again if he hadn't left the roses on fire.
All done now! He didn't bother bringing the Floo Powder plastic bag close to the Fiery Roses pot. The Gryffindor was now keeping himself busy by using his index finger to push the rose stems back a little, only to leave go and watch them rock back and forth, flames waving about just as much as the roses themselves.

Okay, potting the fire roses. Sounded easy enough, so long as she kept putting out the fire. Aguamenti was a spell she was pretty okay with, so she wasn't too worried.
Rula pulled her gloves on then grabbed a pot to set near the fire rose bush she was going to work on. She scooped some soil into the pot, dusted her hands off, and then pulled out her wand to douse the rose with an "Aguamenti." The hiss of the extinguished fire brought a satisfied smile to her face. No getting fire in her hair today, rose buddy.
Getting this thing out of the ground with the roots in tact was the not fun part though. Sigh.
She dug her hands into the soil around it, doing her best to get the roots as well, and it was starting to feel really hot again suddenly, and what-
She squeaked, jerking away from the bush as the roses started to flare up again. Ohhh no you don't.
"Aguamenti!"
And they were out again. Phew.
Working quickly now, she finally got to pick up the bush and set it into the pot, scooping in some more soil as well. There. Thank Merlin that was done.
And thank Merlin she wasn't the kid whose hair caught on fire. Good thing he was okay though.
-
And now the floo flowers, which Rula found kind of interesting since floo powder was something she used quite a lot. Making your own floo powder seemed pretty cool, even if they wouldn't be able to use it until after the Ministry was through with it.
Her gloves were still on, but she quickly dusted the dirt off of them before making her way over to the flowers. Carefully, she picked a petal off one, then moved to another...and another...and another...and one more.
With the five petals in hand, she grabbed a mortar and pestle and dropped the petals in there. It didn't take much time after that to crush them up into a fine powder. So she grabbed a plastic bag and carefully poured the dust in there. Now for the label...
