| | Greenhouses Image by: Pixie The Greenhouses are all kept neat and tidy by Professor Myers. Each one is evenly spaced out in their residing spot outside of the castle. There are five greenhouses, all of them done up to Professor Myer's idea of organization, which carefully follows past organization of the greenhouses with just a few changes. The air is a little crisper out here, students.
Greenhouses one through three are open to student aid and experimentation. If you're careful and confident, you can feel free to tend to the Venemous Tentaculas in Greenhouse Three or engage in a playful tug-of-war with the Devil's Snare in the Greenhouse Two. If you traipse through each greenhouse, you will identify almost every sort of magical plant that has ever been taught at Hogwarts. Bubotubers, puffapods, fanged geraniums, biting toadstools, flesh-eating shrubs, and so on..... and that's not even mentioning the assortment of Muggle flowers in Greenhouse One!
Each greenhouse has little shelves for cute or ordinary pots, as well as racks of tools and any other necessities you may need in the large corner cabinets. There's plenty of lab tables for setting up your own tinkering station, and sinks to clean up in too. Don't forget to add to the compost pile behind the greenhouses when you're done with your trimming! OOC: Here's a basic guide of what you might find in each greenhouse; please remember to play realistically based on your character's age and skill level! Current Listing of Plants Available to Student Care/Experimentation Greenhouse One: the basics- Any and all mundane flowers

| Greenhouse one! For Professor M elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿
Lilian was really the gardener in their family now, but Junia had always liked flowers and as she was looking for things to occupy her time, the twelve year old made her way down to greenhouse one in search of some.
There was something comforting about being here. She liked the way you could get lost among the plants and though dirt under fingernails wasn't a good look for a princess, she liked being able to plant something small and seemingly boring and watch it turn into something beautiful. Like that ugly duckling that turned into a swan! 'S how it happened for Rula, too, who was the prettiest person she'd ever seen-sister or not. She hoped she'd be a swan too someday. Surely it ran in the family.
Stopping by the color changing roses, the small Slytherin knelt down and whispered, "Hello there. I hope you don't mind me keeping you company for a little while." Junias were really the best company to keep.

Junias were really the best company to keep. Daily rounds of checking the greenhouses had come! Paul was a bit more cautious this term, too, ever since Mr. Prince had murdered half of his plant life last term totally not an exaggeration.
Humming to himself, he had a good ole' fashion watering can in hand. Something about watering the plants the muggle way was just too satisfying for Paul to use aguamenti. Not when he didn't have to rush. He could relax and water his plants peacefully.
Students often hung out in here, he had found. It was quiet, and he supposed this was attractive to certain students. Seeing Junia Botros in here was no surprise to him; she seemed the type to enjoy quiet. And perhaps...maybe she needed it since....recent tragic events. "Hello, Miss Junia," he said softly, his tone very kind, OVERLY kind. " How are you today? Giving my roses some company? They do enjoy our presence, I think." He smiled and touched one, and the rose quickly changed to a very white color. Heh. He'd never get tired of that.

Ever since things with her grandfather had happened, adults had been especially nice to Junia. Terribly, obviously, over-the-top nice and if there had been any other reason for it, she would've taken advantage. Found a way to use their sympathy for her own gain. Get special access to the creatures or floo home as she pleased. Somehow it didn't feel right, though. Nothing did and the kindness left her feeling uneasy and irritated more than anything else. Being at Hogwarts without him was hard enough, she didn't need people treating her like a porcelain doll. It just reminded her that she could break. "Mostly I'm wondering why adults think being sugary sweet makes anyone feel better after someone dies, Sir. Is that in the adult handbook somewhere? All adults seem to follow that logic." She glanced up at the herbology professor, gaze inquisitive and not unkind. She genuinely wanted to know. "...I do enjoy the roses, too. How they change color like that..." She shrugged a little, shifting her attention to the flowers. "I was actually here to ask about them-all the flowers-if you've got time to talk." But only if he would treat her normal and not like she was some small, pitiful creature.

Paul was a bit taken aback by her question, needless to say. He withdrew his hand from a rose and looked at her plainly. And then...he sat. On the ground. And patted the spot next to him for her to sit. "Please join me, Junia," he said softly, and he sighed. "I think us adults forget how strong you younger people can be. And I think it's us trying to...spare your emotions. But I assume you don't like it, then?" he asked, also genuinely curious. And wondering if, perhaps, it was insensitive to treat students dealing with loss in such a way. Or anyone dealing with loss in a such a way. "And of course I have time to talk about flowers," he rolled his eyes a little, playfully, and gestured around them. "Herbologist." As if to say DUH. "What do you want to know?"

Junia settled on the ground beside him, legs crossed. Her hands rested gently on top of her knees and she continued to observe the roses as she thought about how to reply. Maybe when she was little she wanted adults to keep her safe from feelings like this-the BIG ones-but she wasn't a baby anymore. She was twelve. She was smart and she was brave and she could handle it. Maybe. Mostly. "I think I'd like it if adults told kids the truth. How is it fair that kids are expected to do that, if they're not doing the same?" Just something she'd been thinking about as of late. Seemed like a two way street-telling the truth. "Well, I like it here in the greenhouses and I was thinking that if it wasn't any trouble, maybe I could spend more time here tending to the flowers. M'not sure what you'd need me to do, but I'd be open to suggestions."

I think adults coddling children isn't much a lie more a...cushioning of the truth. But I think your thoughts are fair, m'dear," he nodded and set the beetle on one of his rosebush's gently. It seemed much happier there already!
He glanced back at the roses, too, and nodded. "Of course you can. Any time you want, okay? You are welcome to tend to them as much as you like. I might put a list of things students can do for each plant...in each greenhouse. So you all know what you can do for then." And what they couldn't...because he did NOT need another Daxton Prince incident in his life. "I'm thinking of adding another Greenhouse," he said gently. He had heard at one point that Hogwarts had housed up to SEVEN greenhouses. "For you all to...experiment." Psh. How great an idea THAT was, was yet to be seen.

Maybe adults were predisposed to handle small things with care and the ones who didn't were the ones who were unusual...
His approval gained a small, genuine smile from the twelve year old which had been a rare occurrence lately. An excuse to get lost among the flowers was always appreciated and perhaps it could gain her some extra credit, too. "Thanks, Professor. Which of the flowers do you think need the most tending?" So she'd know where to start. "What kind of experimenting?" Sounded like something the Ravenclaws would enjoy but Junia was also quite curious.

"I'll keep that in mind from now on." He nodded. And then he was quiet for a good bit, reflecting on her words.
Finally, he said , "I enjoy teaching...for many reasons," he said softly. "But one of the best....reasons, really, is that I get to learn from you all....every day of my life," He pinched the stem of one of the roses and plucked it, making sure to pluck it at the right angle and all for the regrowing to be done properly, but he plucked it nonetheless and handed it to her. "If you put it in a glass with water and some nutrients, it should live awhile, m'dear." He smiled at her once more. "I'm not sure what kind of experiments yet...but I do know that all of my flowers need tending, but I could make up a list or some sort of organizational way to water them and take care of them and hang it up in each Greenhouse, perhaps. I think that'd be best, actually." He nodded. "Would you prefer to water magically or...the muggle way?"

Greenhouse one was not often where Aslan Evans could be found, but the Gryffindor had come recently to better appreciate it's more mundane, but quiet atmosphere. Today, however, she was here to inspect the color changing roses for their most obvious properties. Notebook and ink pen in hand, Aslan studied the blooming flowers as they shifted from a bright yellow to subtle pink to pale lavender and then a deep black as dark as the depths of their lake.
The changes were lovely, slow and.... Perhaps just what she had been looking for. She plucked a petal, watching carefully to see if it would continue changing after being pulled from it's host.
More likely than not, Aslan would be in here all day.

More likely than not, Aslan would be in here all day. Sam supposed that he appreciated plants as well as the next person, but he found himself in the greenhouse for a different reason. And no, surprisingly, it wasn't related to any of his studies either. It was, quite simply, a field trip for his lizard Taco to find some crickets on his own. Sam liked to believe that his green anole didn't mind being transported to and fro in his owner's pocket and that he enjoyed crawling around all over his dorm, but the Gryffindor also liked to indulge any wild lizard fantasies that Taco might have.
So, he set the small reptile upon the ground and let him do his thing. Slipping his hands into his pockets, Sam idly scanned over the nearby plants until his sight stopped at the fanged geraniums that looked like they could desperately use some water. Quite chompy, they were. Suddenly occupied with casting an aguamenti spell upon the flowers, the boy was completely unaware of the fact that Taco was finding interest in a nearby student examining some petals..

"So yeh aunt's due before the summer 'olidays?" Sam continued the conversation as she opened the door to Greenhouse Two. "Maybe they'll share me birthday...s'only, what, three and a half months away?" That sounded about right, at least. Three and a half months and she'd be 14. So much had happened in the last year, and she briefly wondered if it was too early to start planning her first ever birthday party.
She carefully shut the door behind them, and headed towards the bench that carried the herbs. She loved running her fingers lightly over the leaves of the sage and lavender, before smelling them. YUM. "So 'ow're your cousins takin' the news?"

"Yes, she is!" Dora exclaimed, smiled 100 miles wide she couldn't be happier for Addy and Spike, really. THEY deserved to be happy and if baby number 3 did that, the she was happy too! "Oooh. Well you know mine is sooner. First of April." IN case she had forgotten. EVEN if Dora knew full well that her bestie wouldn't forget her FIFTEENTH birthday. FIfteen. Practically GROWN. "We can both have parties over the holiday if you want," she offered, almost reading her friends mind. They were good like that. "But yeah, it would be totally cool if he or she shared your birthday!" That way she would never forget it.
Not that she would.
Following Sam in and then moving to the bench, Dora smiled. Closing her eyes she simply breathed in. Nothing in the world smelled like a greenhouse. Spike had taught her to love the smells one had to offer and not just from the pretty flowers of herbs. "Sephira might not be too happy, but Dominic seems okay. They'll grow into loving it, though, I bet! Having people around is fun."

Pfft, as if Sam could forget Dora's birthday. She might pretend to have done, given the date of it, but she would never actually do so. For a start, she'd already got one of her presents. "Realleh?" Her face lit up at the mention of parties. "I just was thinkin' about 'avin' one, but I don't know where to begin with planning it..." She had thought it about it vaguely last year until the news about her Dad, and you'd think that a year later she might even have a vague idea of theme. But nope, she just knew she wanted one, and it had to have a cake with candles. "Do you have 'n idea for yours?"
Spotting a mint plant, Sam looked furtively around before plucking a leaf and chewing on it. Not quite candy, but close enough for free. "I guess Sephira was pretty little when Dominc was born?" she asked, resting her elbows on the bench. "Wish I had a sibling. I mean...there was plenty of other kids around growing up, 'n' some I was close with...but not like that."

"I guess Sephira was pretty little when Dominc was born?" she asked, resting her elbows on the bench. "Wish I had a sibling. I mean...there was plenty of other kids around growing up, 'n' some I was close with...but not like that." Dora knew her friend would ever forget something like her birthday. Not in a million years. That was one of the things that Dora admired and loved about Sam. She never gave up on her best friend, not even when it seemed like Dora was never going to come around. It was a quality that the Gryffindor couldn't help but envy. Loyalty was very important to her, after all.
" Yeah really! Well I guess you start with what kind of party you want. I was just thinking of inviting a few people over and having some cake and food. Maybe some music. But you can do your own thing. I was just thinking that we should do it pretty quickly after school is out. That way we can go traveling," she said with a huge smile. " And speaking of traveling... I was thinking since you haven't been many places that we could start in Spain, then go to France, Italy, and Greece this summer. What do you think? I love Spain... it is so beautiful, Sam. You will absolutely fall in love with everywhere we go!" And Dora hadn't shown her bestie yet, but she totally had maps, books, guides, all kinds of things to help them decide what they wanted to see and where they wanted to go! She figured she could drag her Ravenclaw to the kitchens later and they could pour over everything with a cup of cocoa and a scone.
" I reckon I had it easier and never realized. Al and I are only three minutes apart, you know. So that made it... just natural when we were growing up. Not much that we didn't do together, you know." But she could totally understand the jealousy aspect of it. ANd Dominic was going to be the middle child now... that couldn't be easy, from what she had heard. " Siblings are totally overrated sometimes, Sam. Don't wish that on yourself." She said it with a sigh, but really she wouldn't trade Sirius Alexander for the world. Nope, nope, nope! " I know one thing for sure though, Sephira and Dominic will be fine. It just takes some getting used to."
Watching Sam chew the mint leaf she smiled and moved to pluck one off herself. Dora didn't chew it though, she merely rolled it between her fingers, releasing the oils and scent. After she was satisfied she had released as much as possible, the blonde lifted it to her nose and breathed in deeply. There was not much better in the world than the smell of fresh mint! " What kind of cake would you like, do you think?" Maybe she could bake it for her... with the help of someone else, of course.

Loyal was one way of putting it. Stubborn was another. Whichever, Sam definitely would not be forgetting her bestie's birthday.
"I dunno...I mean, just a gathering of friends, I guess. Nothing too big. I wanna birthday cake though, and those little bags which you give out at the end." Honestly, she didn't have clue what was in them, never having had one herself, but she wanted to do it all the same. "I always wanted a party at Florean's, but it'd be cool to decorate one of the rooms at yours. What d'ya reck'n?" It was Dora's house, after all. And strictly speaking her dad's money too, even if it came out of Sam's allowance.
That...was a lot of places, Dora! Sam grinned enthusiastically. "Sure. I ain't ever been to any of 'em, so I'm 'appeh to go wherever you fancy!" If Dora loved them, then she was sure to. Hopefully she'd have enough time to read up on them before they went! "I'd love to go to Paris whilst we're in France. We learnt about it in Muggle Studies last term...apparently the view from the Eiffel Tower is amazing." And then they would have to go find a local bakery for those flakey pastry things that were like croissants but a different shape and had chocolate going through them, and have a picnic underneath like in the picture in her textbook. Thinking of which... "Do they really wear stripey tops and have necklaces of garlic in France? Surely the risk of vampires isn't that high?" Plus not all vampires were scary; she happened to know a perfectly nice one who sometimes did business with her Pa.
Ahem. She was excited about it all, okay?
"You reckon?" Sam gave a little sigh, and curled another mint leaf between her fingers. "You and Al, you're so different...and yet I know you have this bond; you'd fight the world together if you had to." Being an only child was freeing, she supposed, but oftentimes lonely too. "Hope we'll have time to see them all before we go travelling...do yeh think we should get the baby a present?"
