An arena, much like the Dueling Arena in fact, has been set up for the practical portion of this lesson. As you enter the arena, you notice a number of things: for one, it's completely bare of, well, anything. There are no stands, no platforms, no seating area, in fact. The vast majority of the room is empty.
And yet, it's full enough to give you an inkling as to what might be about to happen.
Along the left hand side of the area stands four flags: red, yellow, blue and green, all distanced equally along the side of the room. These flags stand in front of a sectioned off portion of the room, otherwise known as the Safe Zone. Confused? You might be.
On the right hand side of the room stands four heavy-set, seven feet tall figures, one directly opposite each of the flags. Though the Golems are identical in height and build, they are each made up of a different material: ice, stone, glass and wood. For the time being, the Golems stand there unmoving from their positions, almost as if they were your everyday statues.
Want to have a closer look? Better do that now........
OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Hirsch's rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. Class has begun over here but you're more than welcome to jump in, even if you haven't been part of the theoretical portion. Just pretend as though your charrie has been there the entire time. Hope you have fun! ^^
Feel free to have your charrie exploring the Golems, if they want to. They won't do anything for now.....

HOLY DISTRACTIONS!
Way to go whoever sent those birds! Hady hadn't exactly seen whom it was but she was thrilled with their creativity right then. She had been much to focused on her heating charms cast upon the floor and only noticed Noelle's problem as well when large water droplets began to ran down on them both. They were doing it, the Ice Golem was melting! Yes!
The shouts of her little sibling calling out to her for help had her spinning on the spot and racing over towards her. Water or no water when she was needed she was there. "Whoa!" Slipping and sliding across a puddle she came to a near crash with the lioness only missing her by about an inch or so. "I'm here, we got this...um alright uh..." Think fast, think fast Hades. She chewed her bottom lip quickly going over different charms in her head that might come in hand. A shield on would help but that wasn't up to her...it was up to those in the safe zone. They needed a shield or something to cover them from the water...water...rain...
WAIT!
Hady grinned. This just might work and she used the charm a few times before. "Here lemme see one of those vests..." It took some real focus here but after a few moments of transfiguration because the shape was a bit awkward she go it. An umbrella! Smirking at Noelle she opened the umbrella and aimed her wand at it casting a levitation charm on it lifting up into the air. "Think you can try to keep the flaming vests underneath this, so we can land them up on it's head and get to that Shem?" It's what they needed and they were getting soooooo close.
If this wasn't so creative teamwork at it's best she didn't know what was.

"They seem to be doing very good now," said Kitty as she answered Tenacius's thumbs up with more clapping and watched as Jace and Azura took down their own Golem. "So I suppose there's no harm in me playing....but I'll pause if they need help," she said, sitting down next to Blaise and Echo.
"CONTEGO Jace! CONTEGO Azura!" She waved her wand at both of them, hoping that at least one would stick. Just in case her earlier spell had worn off....
"Okay then." The prefect smiled a little guiltily at Blaise and Echo.
Jace watched as Azura successfully conjured nice, thick ropes from her wand and set it on fire. The Ravenclaw crossed his arms, and nodded his head in approval. “It’s not so hard now, is it?” he said grinning at his best friend. No matter how much self doubt Azura may have, she is still a Ravenclaw. She’s determined enough to learn, so learning new spells won’t be that hard for the purple eyed one.
The Ravenclaw was about to conjure another set of ropes, but to his surprise, the wooden golem started to move and gave out a roar. Jace assumed his usual fighting stance, wand pointed at the golem ready to coil its mouth with another set of burning ropes when he saw the unexpected.
“Azura...it’s the shem! Look!” he said, quite in disbelief assuming that the golem would put up another fight. “We have to get it...and reverse whatever’s written on it to deactivate the golem.” He said, eyes still on the burning wood monster. “Or...you know...burn it too?” Will that work? It’s just a piece of parchment...right?
“Now...I’m not that good in charms, so I will be needing your help here.” He said, gesturing his head towards the golem. “Accio, shem!”
Well?

Eeekkk! It roared and Az took a bit of a step backwards, before she saw it opening its mouth and hey! It was the Shem!
Praise the Fwoopers! They had done it! Well mostly done it! "I see it! We did it Jace! " The purple eyed girl turned with a smile as she looked up at Jace for a moment before turning her attention back to the Golem..
Get the Shem right..
"No worrieds, Charms I can do. " She said with a nod as she pointed her wand at the Shem!
"Accio Shem! "
Oh dear Fwoopers, please let this work!

The wood golem continued roaring as it bunt. Its arms were trapped and it couldn't get out of the fiery ropes, no matter how hard it tried.
And the shem? It flew out and landed right by the two Ravenclaw's feet. The wood golem stopped moving and burnt silently.
Good job, students.

birds???
Noelle glanced around and grinned happily seeing all that Jace, Az, and Jonas were doing. That was brilliant. A distraction. "WAY TO GO JONAS!" At least, that's what Noelle thought his name was. Hopefully she was correct. Not to mention that the Ice Golem had been distracted enough that Hady's spell had worked!!
The only problem was...... Noelle was being covered in huge water droplets. Okay.... she needed to think this out. The vests were being extinguished from the water and that just wouldn't do. "Hady, I need you!" She yelled to her big sister. Firstly, they needed a shelter to keep the water from extinguishing her vests, and secondly.... Noelle needed a distraction.

The ice golem was still raining over everything and everyone in the battle arena. There was so much water in the vicinity that the fire near its feet had extinguished. The golem now stood at six feet, three inches tall with no feet and drips coming down from its arms.
The idea was a good one but they needed to hurry up if they wanted to get rid of the ice golem.

The Curly Top saw the young Toussaint's reaction "Don’t worry, we'll be here in case he takes a swipe at you." he encouraged his fellow third year. Besides, their efforts to entomb the golem with their aguamenti-glacius spell should distract it at the very least.
But oh! Its working? "Its working its working!" the Gryffindor Ace did a little dancey dance as the rock golem started to crack and wither away. And it looks like theres a sliver of the shem that’s starting to become visible "Look that thing in its mouth, I can see it!--" they needed to get that too didn’t they? He neared the crumbling golem and indeed hesitated for a split second-- should he try to grab it? What if in its death throes the golem decided to catch his hand? Yeaahhhh no. He is a Gryffindor, but he'd like to make it clear that that is not synonymous to stupid. Lets try it another way eh?
He whipped his wand out and cast "Accio!" Hopefully the shem would be loose enough to just come towards them?

Standing by slightly, the blonde watched with wide eyes, waiting to see if his summoning charm would work. If not, Liv would valiantly dart forward and attempt to snatch the paper out of it's mouth. Lolz, or maybe type another type of spell. Maybe Waddiwasi? Only if Ace's didn't work, though...
The stone golem's mouth was fully open and exposing the piece of parchment the students needed to see. The golem continued to self-destruct but it wasn't until the parchment flew out of its mouth and landed by the team's feet that it stopped moving, defeated.
Well done.

The glass golem? The glass golem was still reaching towards the Hufflepuff (Paige) to knock her off her feet. Then it would try and knock the Slytherin off her feet as well.
Let your light shine || Be the sun || You're important. Always.
How many times did Noelle need to thank Hady?? About twenty now.
The umbrella was a BRILLIANT idea. She was impressed. Noelle hadn't stopped duplicating vests so they were still there. They only thing that was changing was the size of the vests. The small balls of Fire were doing okay, but this was a big target. They needed a bigger weapon. "Great idea with the umbrella sis." Noelle said with a triumphant grin.
Then, out of the corner of her eye, Noelle saw the stone Golem defeated. She yelled out a YIIIIP! In congratulations for those that had defeated it. But her mind was working extra fast now. She was going to try a technique the other team had used. The rope.
"Okay Hads, I have an idea. Keep making the vests large and sending them at his.... her.... it's head! Keep them BIG." Emphasis on the big. Big target!!
Noelle pointed her wand and yelled, "Carpe Retratum!" Ropes!! Being only 5'3, the Ice Golem still towered over them. She yelled incarcerous to bind the golem and then, she levitated the ropes and began wrapping it around the ice golems throat. "Set it on fire Hads!" Please!! There was a please in there somewhere right??

Being patient is something that Jace is very good at, but to actually wait if his charm worked or not was too much for the zen child. Should he practice more on his charm work or...? Apparently, the boy and Azura didn’t have to wait that long because the moment the girl Ravenclaw summoned the shem, it immediately flew out of the golem’s mouth and it landed swiftly near their feet.
Game over.
Jace smiled at their success and gave Azura a nudge on the arm. “Well done, Miss Snow.” Brown eyes then fell on the shem on the floor, curious about its content. Should...they touch it? Is it safe to touch? Thoughts were dismissed for now as he shifted his gaze towards the burning golem. It was pretty much engulfed in fire now, and Jace felt a bit down as it burned away. As his usual during Kendo matches, Jace faced the Golem squarely, and gave it a bow, quietly thanking it for the opportunity it had given him to learn both in theory and practical magic.
“Well...I think that’s it, Azura. Should we—" Jace did a double take as he looked at the safe zone, and his eyes immediately fell on Paige. What...in Merlin’s baggy trousers was she doing?! “CONTEGO PAIGE!” Maybe she should start paying attention to the fallen glass golem, yes? It’s still alive and whatnot.
“You want to help Brooklyn?” Jace asked Azura, leaning towards her side. “We can use the Oppugno spell on the glass golem right there as the target...and use the rocks from the fallen stone golem to destroy it.” He said looking at the other team who also got hold of the shem. “Now it’s a bit tricky. Your target doesn’t have to be precise, but you must think hard on the intent. Point your wand at the glass golem, and think of the rocks attacking it, then say the incantation.” It might take a lot of will power for Azura this time, given that she’s not the destructive type, but the boy has faith in her. “If we want it destroyed, I will need your help again. More rocks, the better.” He said as he pointed his wand at the target, and willed the loose rocks on the floor to attack the glass golem. “Oppugno!” Most of the rocks that attacked were small with a small amount of medium sized ones mixed in. It should create a bigger crack now, yes?

Azura grinned as the Shem flew down to them as soon as she called out to it. They had done it!! She smiled happily at her best friend and grinned as he nudged her. "Equally as well done Mr. Reed " She said with a warm smile as she nudged him back..
She was kinda tired and out of breath when she turned around to look at everyone else! Eek! Was Paige okay? She took a step forward in order to protect
the Hufflepuff girl when Jace cast the protection spell on her. Way to go best friend!
She nodded as he asked if she wanted to help out. "Of course I want to help, " She said as she turned to face the glass golem and nodded as he spelled out his plan.. but she didn't know Oppugno! Oh.. wait he was explaining it to her.
The Ravenclaw girl nodded carefully as she heard him speak, taking in every word he said. Think hard on the intent.. got it. Despite her surroundings she closed her eyes and slowly tried to center herself.. thinking hard on helping her friends and on the spell. She pointed her wand at the Glass Golem and pictured the rocks hitting it. It was okay to hurt it.. so she didn't feel too bad using the spell.
She bit her lip a little as she concentrated.. her eyes still closed as she kept picturing the rocks hitting the glass Golem!
"Oppugno!" She said as she opened her eyes and smiled as she saw parts of the stone Golem hitting the glass one! Sure they were little but she had done it!

... And Ace's summoning spell had been on point, as the bit of parchment stuffed into their Golem's mouth had flown out, landing on on the floor before their feet. For a brief moment, Olivia couldn't quite believe they'd defeated it. That thing had been kinda terrifying, just saying... but..
YAS!
Letting out a whoop of joy, the Gryffindor took a moment to twirl and then hip bump her fellow Gryffindor...as well as nudging Katy's shoulder! "Congrats, guys!"
.... BUT... there was still more to do and Liv felt so good after this victory that she wanted to help the others with the remaining Golem. So, who was closest?? Hmmm...

Glass Golem, it was then.
Darting over, she shouted out, "Hey, what do you guys need me to--" Well, that question was a stupid one, as it was quite clear what exactly they were (and were going to be) doing. Or rather, what Jace was directing them to do. They were basically utilizing her own defeated Golem, which was super smart! Ravenclaws. Olivia truly adored them and their smartness. It was wonderful.
Right, so... she needed to focus on where she wanted the rocks to go, and how hard she wanted them to be propelled. And it made sense as the phrase 'Don't throw stones in glass houses...' was appropriately flashing across her mind.
"Oppugno!" ATTACK! ATTACK, MY PRETTIES!

EEEEEEEEEEEEP!
No sooner had Paige stepped out to join in battle had one of the golem's decided to fixate its attention on her with one of its massive glistening hands reaching out towards her. Paige just had enough of a reflex to leap to the side, and hopefully out of the way, when the Ravenclaw's spell hit her and provided her with a shield - which would come in handy should her athleticism have failed her...which was very likely.
"Thank you," she called over her shoulder to the boy, gripping her wand tightly in her hand, the seventh year's reflexes were telling her to cast something back at the golem. Which she of course knew was the foolish thing to do. But...glass...how to defeat glass...nothing with the elements would corrode it...unless the floor was heated beyond belief and it stood still long enough for its feet to melt down. But that was something to be used on ice...much more efficient. Break the legs, or a leg, and bring it down? That could be down if they...were to trip it?
Which meant conjuring rope...oh Merlin. Last time she had done that she had bound herself in rope rather than the target itself...
But then there were stones being hurtled at the golem by the pair of Ravenclaws and Gryffindor, giving the Hufflepuff an idea. One that involved charms which meant that she was more likely not to mess something up. Swallowing, Paige thrust her wand in the direction of the incoming stones and cast a few silent Growth Charms in their direction, doubling...tripling...and even in a few cases quadrupling the stones' sizes.
This was better...hopefully...still...she was ready to make a break for it should the golem retaliate in her direction.

Still somewhat feeling accomplished due to the fact she’d seen those cracks in the fallen glass golem, Brooklyn hadn’t noticed the creature reaching for Paige until after she’d heard someone yell out the shield spell in the Hufflepuff’s direction. As it was, she was still fully not intending on letting the golem’s arms get anywhere close to her, nor was she intending on hitting the ground. Once again, she was planning on utilizing her dance ability in that regard, and that had meant she was paying a lot more attention to the golem than she was anything else. Anyone else. Meaning she hadn’t acknowledged that the stone golem had been defeated and suddenly Jace and Azura and Olivia were pelting the glass golem with bits of the other golem.
Plus, she’d mentally instructed Paige to just get back behind the safe zone. The girl could still enlarge the stones from behind the line, and in some ways Brooklyn resented the assumption she needed help. The golem hadn’t really gotten that close to her, after all. Okay, there had been the shield spells from Echo and others involved, but she’d been the one to down the golem. Shield spells didn’t do that. Shield spells hadn’t created those cracks.
Flicking her wand around, she silently levitated the tin of green paint and directed it over the golem’s head. She didn’t know if covering the inscriptions in paint would work, nor if swallowing the paint would destroy the shem, but it would be amusing to watch. Moving the levitated paint tin was easy enough, given the practice from the charms challenge last term, even with the stones being tossed as well, and she’d let it tip over once it was in place before just letting her charm drop and watching the entire tin fall toward the golem’s head. If anything, they’d definitely know where it was by the time she was done.

Blaise wasn't about to force the Prefect, but at the same time he was glad she'd decided to play with him and Echo. It was arguably more fun that way.
The Gryffindor waited for Echo to be done silencing the cards while he watched Kitty help a few of the others out there in the battle. It was really heating up out there, the boy wasn't so sure he could keep up anymore. The spell he kept hearing? Oppugno. He supposed it must have been doing them a world of good if they kept using it like that.
"I'll go first, he offered." Giving the Kitty another chance to help out if she needed to.
Blaise flipped a card over, paused....then flipped another. As luck with have it..."A match!" Talk about a lucky break.
Either of them could have the next turn, he wasn't fussed.

With the ice golem now shorter in height, it started to move forward. This was difficult due to its stumps for feet but it made steady progress.

Just as the glass golem was reaching to the Hufflepuff (Paige), it felt its hand hit a shield, a barrier to its target. It let out a small roar and tried to grapple at the girl but no luck.
During this, the glass golem didn't pay attention to its surroundings. If only one stone was attacking it, it would've taken a long time for the glass golem to break. But as it were, the combined efforts of the Ravenclaws and Gryffindor caused it to shatter and break upon contact. Add in the Slytherin's levitating paint trick and the glass golem was unable to stay hidden. A sure target.
The Hufflepuff's effort made matters worse for the golem: bits of its face and body shattered completely and started raining down on the students. Better make sure you're covered.

While Hirsch was less than impressed with some students - looking at you, Blaise Bellaire - the man was watching in giddy excitement at the goings on at the arena. Not only had the students managed to grasp the point of the activity but they were using their smarts. They were using what they knew about the elements to defeat the golems while helping each other out.
Was there anything else a professor wanted to see?
He'd been opting to close the activity, and the lesson, for a while now but something made him stop. Whether it was the sight of seeing them doing well or the fact that this reminded him all too much of a group duel but he couldn't bring his heart to let them stop.
That was, until the glass golem started to shatter.
Raising his wand, the Defence Professor struck up a solid barrier between the students at the golems. No more rain, no more glass. It would save them from getting too injured by the raining elements, he hoped.
"Excellent! Really and truly excellent, class! I think it's safe to say that you all would give the golems a run for their money if you came across them at any point in the future." He hoped they wouldn't but his comment was also true. "We have run a lot overtime, my apologies, but that's the end of the class. I hope you enjoyed it and have learnt something useful about this Jewish folklore."
"Please put your hands together for my guest, Mr Angelo Toussaint. Thank you for coming in and helping me with this topic." A nod was given to the man before he turned to the rest of the class again. "If you want to learn to animate your own golems, come and see me. If not, you're free to go and enjoy your lunch." Lunch that, he hoped, included sausages.
.......... Oh. Wait. "Mr Bellaire? If you could meet me in my office, please." No, he hadn't forgotten.
OOC: PHEW! Thank you thank you thank you for coming and playing along with the Golems! I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did! Sorry for letting it go so overtime!
And a HUGE thank you to Tegan (Tegz) for helping me with this lesson and for coming up with the idea of it in the first place. <3

"See you professor," He said. "The lesson was awesome."

"I did it!"

The Ravenclaw gave Paige a quick bow of his head in acknowledgement, and gestured her to pay attention to the glass golem up front. Granted that she’s a senior student, she would know a better spell to defeat the glass golem. As for the third year, he could only manage to use the broken elements around them and utilize it to their advantage. Jace was impressed however, when Paige performed the Engorgement Charm on their rocks while it was in motion. Now that, is skill ladies and gentlemen.
Jace nodded in approval as he witnessed Azura learn and execute the Oppugno Jinx. She was a fast learner and the Ravenclaw was truly proud of her. “That’s it! Keep it going!” The Ravenclaw almost bounced on his feet in delight but stopped when Olivia came to the party. Jace opened his mouth to respond, but the Gryffindor was quick to pick up the idea. The Ravenclaw watched her, and was amused at her vigor. Letting out a chuckle, Jace pointed his wand at the glass golem once more and directed more rocks to smash it. “Oppugno!”
The Ravenclaw wanted to retrieve the shem so badly, but had to retract his wand arm when he saw the chunks of glass started to pelt towards their feet. That...can’t be good. Jace lifted his arm to raise the jinx, but as if reading his mind, Professor Hirsch stepped it to end the class. Barriers were put in place to encase the active golems and Jace heaved a sigh of relief.
The Ravenclaw unceremoniously flopped on the floor as the professor gave his closing remarks. Would he like to learn how to animate his golem?! Hirsch didn’t have to ask. In fact, he was going to skip lunch today to head towards the library to read more about them. He wouldn’t want to rely on the Defense professor fully. He would love to contribute something somehow. Pocketing the shem from their defeated golem, Jace stood up and joined everyone in thanking Mr. Toussaint.
As soon as the applause died down, Jace then turned to his fellow students and gave them all a bow. “Thanks for helping out. You all did well.” He said giving them all a sheepish grin. He’s used to working alone, but he thought getting help from his peers wasn’t so bad.
“Thanks for the fun activity, Professor Hirsch. Erm...I’ll stop by your office soon? I’d like to learn more about golems...and...yeah.” he said bowing to the man, his cheeks turning pink as he did so. He knew he’d be a bother, so it was best to just quickly let the man know he’ll be bugging him soon and followed everyone out the door.
Awkward turtle right there.

Her own reflexes kicked into high gear, Paige had cast her own shield charm around herself not moments before Professor Hirsh had done so himself - keeping what remained of the golems away from herself and her peers. Merlin...that had been...something else now hadn't it? Unsure about how to feel, or deal really, with the adrenaline pumping through her veins now...Paige sort of just melted to the floor on her knees and tried to catch her breath. She really was not cut out for this sort of thing...but somehow had survived and actually contributed. As small a contribution as it had been. Still enough of a boost to make her believe she wasn't totally worthless when it came to the subject.
But definitely not for her. She was better suited for tending to the aftermath of these sorts of things. Well, once she was a licensed healer that is. She would certainly not force her hand when there was a certified one right there in the hospital wing.
Class dismissed, Paige peeled herself up off the floor and made her way towards the professor and Angelo - mind a bit more clear and recalling something she had wanted to ask prior to the class moving.
"Professor Hirsch," she muttered, pocketing her wand and smoothing out her skirt in the process. "I was ... wondering...I shared similar thoughts to those of Blaise...about construction...is there any evidence in their use of the construction of this very castle?"
For curiosity's sake....and her own research.

"Good job guys!" Kitty called out to her fellow classmates clapping along with everyone else for Angelo also. She felt a spirit of comradeship after that rather epic battle, even if she was in the safe zone.
Unfortunately it looked like Blaise was going to be in trouble. Even though he wasn't of her house she still felt rather sorry for him, not liking to see anyone get in trouble unless they really deserved it (like Miffy and Peeves). "Good luck Blaise," she muttered quietly to him. Then she smiled at Echo and turned to leave.
"That was an awesome lesson, Professor Hirsch and Mr. Angelo," said Kitty as she stopped by the professor and the guest on the way out. She would have used his last name but she had forgotten it and hopefully he wouldn't mind. "Will you be coming back for more lessons?" Just curious.
