WINGED HORSES???!!!

They're going to learn about WINGED HORSES???!! Yeessssss!!! The first year was trying so hard to contain her excitement and not to squee. This probably her luckiest day EVER! That or the Professor can read her mind. They didn't have that kind of magic right? Read people mind? Never mind. Back to the lesson. Oh. Questions. What they know about winged horses? Beside from the fact that they're horses and they have wings? Nope. Nothing. She didn't even know they're existed till like a few months ago!

Hadleigh smiled warmly at the Professor. He was in noway Draper but he was certainly a very nice man. "I have Professor and he seems to like his stable very much, I was hoping to stop by again later this afternoon for some play time with him and the other crups if that's alright?" Normally she didn't ask to stop by and see her own pet but since she was in a lesson and planning on not just taking her own crup but the other two out as well she might as well ask. That way if Jordon were to check in on them and not see them in the stalls he would know where they were and that they were with her, safe.

As the lesson began and it was announced that they were going to be learning/working with some winged horses Hady grinned. Shifting in her beanbag seat her eyes bright and ready she waited until those around her had given their answer. Raising her hand she replied lightly, "It is said that the Elder wand's core had possessed a Thestral hair and it was the only wand to ever have a core using one." Yes, she had been aiming towards something that hadn't already been said ten times over already by everyone else.

If he was waiting for cooler people to sit with him? LOL

Didn't this kid know he was basically a first year himself as a transfer student? The only people he had made friends with was Janelle and Paige and they were both sitting somewhere else.

"You're in Ravenclaw so you're automatically cool to me , Finn" He said. "And i'm Mason" he'd liked to say more but it was at that moment that the Professor talked to him. About his book...?

Huh? put down his book? But class hadn't even started yet? What did it matter if he read a book BEFORE class? Was it because it wasn't a book related to the Professor's lesson? Judging by his words it was and Mason couldn't help raise an eyebrow.

"Alright" he finally answered and marked the page he was at before putting his book away in his bag. Weeeiiird.

After he was done putting away his book in his bag , the Professor started the lesson and the Ravenclaw leaned back in his beanbag to get more comfortable. He listened and watched as the man magically made an picture of a winged horse appear and he sat more upright now.

Winged Horses? sounded cool.

Ok that WAS cool.

"All owners of winged horses should have a Disillusionment Charm over them to keep them out of sight from muggles. Except the Thestral which is already invisible except for the ones who've seen death" he said after raising his hand in the air.

Carl waved back at Henry as he waited for more people to arrive. Soon, it was 9 o'clock, Professor Hernandez had finished his coffee and the lesson began. He focused on the Professor and grinned as the man said that he was going to be talking about one of his favorite creatures. It must be awesome teaching something he loved so much. He watched as a picture was revealed on the board - ooh, it was a winged horse!

The Badger listened to everybody's answers. They all knew a lot of interesting facts about the creature, some of which he knew, some he did not. By the time he thought to make his own contribution, he had nothing new to say. Well. He sat silently in his beanbag seat and continued listening to the discussion.

Hmmm.... "Thank you for the suggestion, Mr. Bellaire." Although there's a slim chance that he would have a lesson after lunch. Morning is the best time to have an outdoor class with the fresh and breezy air.

And.... S N O R T.

Jordan couldn't help but shook his head. Clearly there two teenagers are way smarter than his 5-year old nephew. "That is such an obvious opinion." He spoke coolly to both of them. He needed to watch these two punks, especially Bellaire because he had heard many things about this student from other staffs. But well, at least they tried.

Okay, moving on to the other students. The CoMC professor listened to some students mentioning about Pegasus. "Let me get this straight, Pegasus is a creature from Greek mythology, the son of Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea and Medusa, the monster of Gorgon." He cleared his throat and continued speaking. "So basically Pegasus and magical winged horse are not similar. I am not an expert of Greek mythology so if you want to know about that, maybe you guys should ask Professor Newton, the lady one not the old man." Oops... "I mean, Rosalyn Newton, the History of Magic professor.. Not the potion master." He corrected himself.

Okay, back to the discussion. He listened to the other students giving their opinion and waved his wand to the chalkboard to copy their answers there.

"Excellent answers, guys." He appreciated the students. "I would like to add some facts about them: As one of your friends say that Abraxans drink single-malt whiskey, unfortunately they can't drink water because it's like an alcoholic drink to them and makes them sick." Which is pretty interesting, and not many wizards could own abraxans as their pet due to the cost of their care and diet: Single-malt whiskey is not that cheap, buddy! "And speaking of diet, Thestrals are the only breed that are carnivorous. The other can take fruits and vegetables as their diet."

Jordan took a pause for a while before continued speaking. "Ministry has classified them as XXXX, although both Granian and Aethonan can be classified as XX or XXX. But still, only skilled wizards can handle them. I have been working with them for years and based on my experience, winged horses needed to be respected, petted and taken care carefully or they could cause a harm." So he hope that there would be no smarties who insulted them.

"Okay guys, once you have finished writing I want you to stand up and follow me." He instructed as he walked to the other side of the backyard. Waving his wand, he pulled of the disillusionment charm and revealed four winged horses represent of each breeds. "I want you guys to meet my new buddies here, they will be the new members of our barn. This one..." The CoMC professor pointed to the small grey-colored winged horse. "is Maxine." And then, the walked and introduced the largest one beside Maxine, the white-colored one. "This one is Aurora." Moving on, he introduced the chestnut-colored one, it was not as large as Aurora. "This is Perseus." And the last one, not many student could see them maybe.. But he could. "And the last one is Sinatra. Yeah, some of you might not be able to see it because it's a Thestral."

Weren't they pretty? HEHEHE.

"So, based on their looks I think you guys know each difference of them, right? Which one is which?" He asked.

The sound of quill against parchment was heard as Jace quickly wrote down the notes on his parchment. Well, to be honest, he didn’t need those information anymore seeing that he’s read most of what’s written, and that he’s memorized most of it prior to the day’s lesson. Though of course, a summarized form of their lesson on his parchment won’t hurt. He’d have to bind those in the end anyway because in a few years time, it would be his OWLs year.

Once he was done, he eagerly followed the professor...and had his eyes as big as saucers when the Disillusionment Charm was lifted. Jace beamed at what he saw and raised his hand to answer. “Maxine is the Granian one, Aurora is the Abraxian, and Persus is the Aethonan.” No need to point out which one the Thestral is because the professor has said it already...plus...he was just looking at air.

And say what? They get to see them in the Barn all year round?! AWESOME!

Kimi finished writing down his notes and followed the professor and was wide eyed and this was the first time he had seen all the four horses in person and yes he could see the last horse the thestral because he had seen his aunt die, Kimi raised his hand said "Professor i know not many of my fellow students won't be able to see the Thestral because well they haven't experienced seeing a person die at first hand, I can see the Thestral because i witnessed my Aunt dieing a couple of years ago"

So many facts! Harriet bit her lip as she wrote everything down. She had taken to making lots of notes in her classes. She had her sisters old notes, but she wanted to make lots of notes so that when she was taking exams she'd have a lot to revise from. She tried to make her notes neat, so that when she was older she could still read them. That was pretty important.

But now they'd got to the exciting part. Now they could go and look at the pretty winged animals. Hattie was pretty excited actually, because she was going to get to see an Abraxan. She loved Abraxan's. But had never seen them in real life.

She smiled, getting a little distracted by the pretty abraxan. It was a lovely white colour, and that was how she could tell it was an abraxan. "That white one is an Abraxan. They are really pretty." She murmured with a beam. She loved Abraxans. They were really pretty.

She was a little worried though. She couldn't see the last creature. Was there even a creature there? She tilted her head to the side. She wasn't so sure about that actually.

She missed Draper. The man had been succinct, clever and yes, part of her displeasure might have stemmed from the lack of familiarity and comfort in her current academic life, but Aslan Evans was sure that even if everyone but Professor Draper had left she would still be feeling the same distrust and dislike for their current professor.

She didn't like the bean bags much ether.

It made it even harder to be awake when you had something so soft to lay back in. She should have done as that boy had with the coffee and brought along some tea, as she was feeling especially caffeine depraved.

The class began, and lo and behold they were graced with the presence of a creature Aslan had only ever read about and never seen. Winged Horses. Real and proper winged horses and they were beautiful. The Abraxan's with their shiny coats and thick limbs, and the Granian's were so sleek, so clearly built for speed with their lithe and elegant forms. She sat up straighter in her bean bag, her attention now fully and completely arrested.

She wrote a little, taking care to describe the look of each animal in turn aside from the clear case of the Thestral. It was... Disappointing that she couldn't see the creature, so much so that Aslan raised her hand.

"Professor." She said, her large dark eyes switching to him for the first real time this lesson. "Are there other ways you might be able to see a Thestral? Can they be photographed or filmed? Is there a painting you could show us?" Aslan asked, tilting her head as her mind raced. "Why is it that only people who have seen death may see a Thestral? I've read that they're considered unlucky because of this and that many wizards tend to avoid them at all costs."

She thought briefly of answering his question for she knew quite easily which horse was which, but it hardly seemed important, especially when the others would surely be chiming in with their answers anytime now.

Owen was determined to copy down e v e r y t h i n g and he was going to do just that. He was a great note-taker now anyway because the width of his fingers downsized with his weight. So even if it took a while and the Professor was already asking them to follow him, the badger's copying task was a success. Yup!

The man pulled off the disillusionment charm and in its place appeared actual winged horses. "Whoaaaa." Can he get a fist bump, Henry? So cool. They were in different colors and sizes and holy chocolates, this was so exciting! Owen of course made it a point to learn the names of the winged horses save for one he couldn't see. A thestral. He will just have to use his imagination and images from his textbook to visualize then.

Which one was which? Owen was pretty confident, "Aurora is the Abraxan, Maxine is Granian and Perseus is Aethonan." Oh, and Sinatra was the Thestral.

Honestly, you would thing growing up on a farm, would make someone like animals a whole lot, especually with Emmaleigh and Ace as family but Sam wasn't too in love with them. Though she had seen the abraxians at the sanctuary a time or two. Still she didn't really know much about them besides the obvious size of them, so she didn't add anything to the class discussion.

She did take notes though, and frowned when she saw something odd. She raised her hand and asked. "Professor, I'm confused. If Abraxians can only drink single malt whiskey.... how did they get something to drink in the wild? I mean, as far as I know, there aren't rivers of the stuff somewhere for wild ones to drink, so it can't be the only thing that they do drink. "

When the professor revealed the horses Samantha had to admit to herself that they were kinda sorta impressive. It it was interesting how diffrent they all were. Even the so called thestral, if there really was one. She'd been there when her mom had died, or atleast that's what her father had always said, blaming her for her death. But maybe she was to little at the time for that to count. But yes professor, it was pretty obvious which horse was which, seeing as they had the descriptions up on the board, and she could figure out colors. Instead of saying the answer out loud, since someone had already answered, she wrote down the horses name and breed together in her notes so she would remember their names later.

Granian > Maxie
Abraxian > Aurora
Aethonan > Perseus
Thestral > Sinatra

There. If he quizzed them on their names, she'd remember them.

So today they will be talking about winged horses which is absolutely the coolest creatures to talk about. Who is he kidding, all creatures in this class are the coolest. Sean is always happy looking at them. Winged horses looks so free and they look like they enjoy whatever the world has to offer them.

Sean looked at the teacher when he asked a question. He can name one or two but not all of them. He stared and carefully debated in his thoughts which one is which. "Professor the small grey-colored winged horse is a Granian and the white on is Abraxian" he nodded. Did he mix that one up?

And of course we can't forget the threstal which Sean can't see. He looked at the open space. Where can it be though? Is it moving? Who can see the Threstal? Sean has seen them in sketches and all but never the real thing. He sort of wanted to. Sean shoot up his hand to ask "Can you see the threstal professor?" he asked out of curiosity.

Did the Prof say new members of the barn?

ASDFASDFASDFASDFASDFA!!!

Oh and he spotted the Abraxan right away, not only because it was his favorite, but well it was the largest of the pack, and gorgeously light colored, easily the first one to get noticed "Hello Aurora." Can they stroke the horses? "Can we stroke them Professor?" Because the man cant show them off without letting some of them get petted.... unless the horses were new-ish to the place and were a little grumpy.

So can he tell them apart? Well given that Ace has been going to a German Equine sanctuary with his Mom since he was an ickle he knows the others like the back of his hand "Aurora is an Abraxan, Maxine over there is a Granian, Perseus is an Aethonan.... and although I can only see three awesome creatures, I'm guessing Sinatra is somewhere here and he's the Thestral."

His face contorted into one of confusion as he stared up at the chalkboard, quill posed to write but not actually writing anything down. There weren't invisible horses pulling the carriages that you could only see if you've seen death, were there? He'd always figured they were pulled by, well... magic.

Moving on though. He'd copy the notes off Marsha later.

Packing his blank parchment away, he hastily stood up, finding all that energy he didn't have before and then some after seeing three winged horses appear from nowhere. Praise the growth spurt so he could see over a few of the student's heads. Yet, he could see only empty space where the thestral was supposed to be, no matter how far on his tippy toes he strived to reach. Bummer. Or maybe not so much.

Could they ride them!?

Chloe looked at the three horses, the fourth was hidden from her sight, and took in each of their appearances. From what she had read about winged horses and knew from Clara's never ending ranting about magical creatures, Chloe could easily discern which horse was which.

But she was going to leave the discussion to others for this lesson. She did not want anyone under the impression that she wanted to actively participate in this lesson. There would be no horse petting, no horse riding, no horse NOTHING for Chloe Newman. That was the other twin.

Blaise Bellaire and Bentley Moore, pls. You two ...

Anyway.

Olivia didn't really have the answers, as this was the first time she was properly paying attention, but Aslan Evans just so happened to be asking some very interesting questions. One thing Liv did know about those particular creatures was that she'd have to have seen someone die to actually lay eyes on the threstal. And seeing she hadn't witnessed something as tragic and traumatizing as that.... Yea. So, the blonde focused her attention on the things she COULD see.

...And they were like something right out of one of her fairytale books.

Beautiful, majestic, powerful looking ... Gosh.

When she'd been much younger, her mum had kept horses. The muggle ones, though. Not any like this, but Liv knew what he'd said about petting and caring for them to be true. They really enjoyed being brushed and groomed. Were they going to get to brush them?!

Azura was jotting down notes as quick as she good, making sure to take good ones in case things like this came up on a test as they were so likely too.

She hurriedly finished her writing and then moved to follow the Professor to a different part of the backyard..

Her purple eyes went wide as the charm fell from the animals and there before her.. was four winged horses.. Well.. She assumed there was four, she couldn't actually see the Thestral, she hadn't seen death but she trusted the Professor enough to believe that it was there. After all she knew they were on the grounds! And besides, why would professors lie to them?

She was in slight awe of the magnificent beasts and she smiled as her class mates started to point out which was which.. Even though she knew which ones were which ones..

She didn't want to repeat everything..

So instead she got out her notes and started to write in them quickly.

There.. now she had them down perfectly.

They were talking about the horses now and she wanted them to follow. After writing down her notes, most she didn't need since she knew already. Standing up she placed her parchment down and headed over with the rest of the class. Feeling more comfortable since she was near the horses Nat made sure she was up front and closer to the professor then she'd usually go.

Looking at each horse as he named them she smiled at all of the and then smiled in the direction of the one she couldn't see. As much as she loved the horses she was always glad not to see them. Seeing them meant you saw death and accepted it and she just wasn't sure she wanted to see death at all. People could die away from her forever, she was good with that.

As she went to raise her hand to answer which one was which she noticed the class seemed to all know which was which, so Nat set her hand back down and let the others take this one. She didn't have to show what she knew to know it.

Philipe blinked at the four horses. Which were they? Oh... He actually could answer this one! His father's best subject at school had been this class after all, and he loved to teach Philipe and his younger siblings about the animals, "Professor, Maxine is a Granian horse, Aurora is a Abraxan, Perseus is an Aethonan, and Sinatra is a Thestral." He looked at Sinatra, still finding it odd that he could see that particular flying horse.

And weren't they quite a pair? Blaise grinned as his cousin offered up his oh so wise and sagely input on the discussion. Perfectly right he was; they were horses. Between the two of them, the Gryffindor was sure they'd covered all the basic knowledge of winged horses and the Professor was absolutely lucky to have two such well learned young men gracing his lesson. Yup.

For the most part, Blaise let his quill take the notes. He knew that by the end of it, the information would be somewhat skewed but he could always get the straight shooting version from his cousin later. Right now, he couldn't be bothered.

Know what else he couldn't be bothered with? Naming the horses when everyone else was already doing it. There was really no point to it. The boy would rather have the answers to the questions his housemate Aslan had asked.

Very thought provoking.

The redhead's interest was fully captured the moment the Professor had revealed to them the four amazingly stunning winged horses before them. Her eyes lit up not expecting to actually see them before her right now. Oh she could certainly tell you a number of things about these creatures because they were definitely a FAVOURITE of hers! The urge to approach them was very strong, could she ride them Professor? Better yet could she take them back to the Common Room with her & snuggle with them? Or better yet than that, she'll happily snuggle with them in the barn, she's slept in worse places than that & honestly a barn was NOT the worst thing.

Not even hesitating when the Professor had asked the class which horse was which, her finger pointed to each horse calling their names & breed already fully aware which was which. "Aurora, the stunningly beautiful Abraxan. Maxine the petite Granian. Perseus the majestic Aethonan. And of course Sinatra, the gentle Thestral."

Yes, she could see Perseus.

And no she was not worried or fearful that she could see the winged creature. Was it surprising to know that the fourth year has already seen death at some point in her life? Maybe. Probably. But in case many forgot, the girl has been exploring the world with her father for as long as she could remember & yes there were amazing things that she's seen on most of travels, but that doesn't mean that everything was amazing. Sadly yes, some of those travels did unfortunately involve Clara witnessing death, actually on more than one occasion, but not that any of it was intended or made her traumatized. Everyone was going to face death some day, so why fear it? And especially, why fear such a gentle creature as a Thestral, it's not like it was their fault that you could see them.

SO yes Professor there are your answers, could she please ride them now?

Humph. Skylar was kind of insulted with the Professors response to her answer. Yes she KNEW Hippogriffs were a different creature but she was merely trying to insinuate that they were half of a winged horse and really he'd asked for traits about them and she was being UNIQUE in her answer. But he just didn't get it, obviously. Not cool at all.

Sulking about his response as he introduced the four horses, Sky fought to not roll her eyes when he pointed them all out . He basically gave them all the answers which was lame ... And he frowned upon creativity which was also lame. Apparently she should just be a tape recorder and spew back like information.

"Perseus is an aethonon" Sky mumbled. Yes she was bitter and probably would remain so for the duration of the lesson.

Sam let out a little gasp as the horses were revealed. She'd been introduced to thestrals before, on her first ever journey to the castle, and she'd met Dora's mini abraxan too. But she'd never seen a full sized one, nor an aethonon or granian, and their size surprised her.

"They're beautiful!" she exclaimed quietly as she shuffled closer to the front, tending towards the side with the thestral since there seemed to be fewer there. Because they couldn't see Sinatra, she assumed. "Why are they 'ere in the barn, Professeh?" the Ravenclaw asked curiously, raising her hand. "Jus' for us teh study?" Because there must be a whole herd of thestrals somewhere on the grounds for pulling the carriages, right?

Kitty let out an excited squeak as the horses were introduced. "OMG, they're so beautiful," she whispered as she ogled them. If she had a winged horse she would name her (or him) Dazzle, but that was just her. These guys names were pretty awesome too.

Instead of personally writing down everything Professor Hernandez said about the winged horses, this time Kitty relied on her brand new quick quotes qill. This was only her second time using a self-writing quill (having ordered it recently through Owl Post), and occasionally she glanced at it to be sure it was writing down everything. So far so good, though its grammar could use improvement.

'Maxine is a Grabian, Aurora is an Abraxan, Pereseus is an Aethonan, and Sinatra (who I can't see) is a Thestral. Did you name them Professor? I think they're really fitting, especially Aurora for the Abraxan and Sinatra as a Thestral. Sinatra was a famous Muggle musician, but the name also seems kind of creepy in a cool way."

After Colt gave his piece of information to the class, he saw the board. He wished he could have a photographic mind and could easily just remember it. Alas he only had selective memory. He groaned and began to scribble some notes on his notebook. He hummed some tune he had in his head and then he saw the Professor moving the class. He shut his notebook and walked with the class. He saw the horses after he lifted the charm. He was pretty impressed with the different type of horses. He knew which one was which of course but he heard everyone else repeating the same answer he didn't care to exert his energy. He only cared about the Thestral which was cool to see.

"Sinatra is a Thestral.." he said and nodded to her. He moved a little closer to get a good view.
