He tried to offer a small smile of comfort, "I get it, I was scared the first time my father took me for a ride as well, but they're actually kind, and so long as you treat them right the ride will be steady." He figured maybe she'd like to ride with someone who at least had a bit of experience.

He walked up to the horse she had started to and gently stroked the horses side and looked back at her, "It's like the professor said, so long as you're kind to them, they'll be kind to you." The fifth year smiled, "I'm Philipe, by the way."

Still standing hesitating before one of the winged horses she looked around her, were there more first years like herself still standing still? Hesitating? Or was she the only one? But before she could properly look around her to find anyone she heard somebody approach her. Turning around she saw a boy from Hufflepuff walking toward her and he looked really old, probably a fifth or sixth year she mused.

The boy greeted her and she smiled weakly in return as a greeting and listened when he started to talk but while she listened she tensed. Was it so obvious that she didn’t liked the winged horses? But she stayed silent and waited for him to finish talking because well, she had nothing better to do to be honest.

“I’m not scared” she said immediately when he was done talking and she even tried to stand a little taller but her lie wasn’t that convincing and she knew it. But she returned his friendly smile anyway. “I- I just was looking at those horses because I haven’t seen them before and I wanted to know if they were the same as the muggle horses I’ve seen” lied Leesha while crossing her fingers behind her back. She saw how the boy walked toward the flying horse and she held her breath, suddenly tens again and watched. Okay, the boy did seemed to know what he was doing, that was a good thing, at last!

“I’m Leesha” responded the first year while slowly stepping closer toward him and toward the flying horse but she eyed the animal warily, watching for the slightest sign that the flying horse wasn’t to be trusted but when the animal didn’t moved she placed her slightly shaking hand over the horses side, following Philipe’s lead.

This was what Chloe did not want to happen. Riding horses? Couldn't they just observe them without having to fly them? There was no sure fire way to make winged horses comply. They were wild creatures. And as much as her family loved them, and they really did, didn't mean that they were safe.

Like, honestly, why did they have to ride horses? Chloe gawked at the professor.

She wanted to sit this one out.

Instead, she mustered up whatever courage she could find and hesitantly approached the horse. Abraxan. She lifted her hand out and stroked the horse. It made a noise in her direction and she jumped back. No, no, no. No thank you. Ugh.

She felt like she knew lots about the horses already without class, but wasn't going to complain that they got to ride them and feed them in a lesson. This was the greatest lesson ever and any anxiety she had before was fully forgotten.

Nat gave Apollo another treat and sang quietly to him as the professor continued with his instructions. When it was time to get started she did hear about the older kids working with the younger and her eyes moved around. Which younger student was going to be her partner.

"If anyone wants to partner up with me Apollo wouldn't mind." She turned back to the horse and pet his head a bit. How exciting was this! Soon she'd be in the air!

Azura was still attempting to figure out if that blank space in front of her was a Thestral or not, she had inched closer and was holding her hand out with the meat, hoping to feel something take the meat from her.

Sadly, nothing happened and she sighed softly as the Professor spoke again and her purple eyes went wide.. Whoa.. wait now.. They had to what now? Ride the winged horses? She swallowed heavily as she looked up at all the horses. She had never ridden a horse before, muggle or winged and she swallowed hard.

They were so high up and she was so.. little.. What if she fell? That was a long way down.

The purple eyed girl was just about to raise her hand and ask some more question about you know.. How to not die, when the Professor spoke again. She had to ride with an older student!

Oh thank the Fwoopers.

Azura sagged in relief and then went over to the nearest older student she could find.

"Um, hey. I'm Azura, can I partner up with you and Apollo?" She asked, hoping the older student wouldn't let her die, yeah?

SarcasticStrawberry 09-14-2016 07:34 PM

We need a older student please?

YES!!!

This was exactly what Katerina was waiting on. Riding the winged horses. She'd been waiting on it all summer or at least since Henry and her had talked about it over the summer. Even with her accident over the summer she was back on hers in a days after, even with her mother being less than thrilled about it. Either way she was going to get ride one TODAY. The only bad thing was she was a third year and the professor wanted the younger students to partner up with a older student.

Katerina being a well experienced rider of mundane horses didn't exactly agree this, she had years of experience under her belt. She was taught to obey her professors even if she didn't agree. So with that she looked at around for an older student. Near by was a older Slytherin girl, wasn't she like the singer of that band from the concert last term?

She was heading ask her when Az got here first. The third year rolled her eyes. She didn't care much for the Ravenclaw classmate at all. Who would the way she treats Brady. She huffed, rather loudly and turned to find another older student.

Hey Ju 09-14-2016 09:16 PM

Any older student, pleease?

Matt didn't contribute to the guessing game because eeeverybody started to repeat each other and he didn't see the point in saying it again himself. Besides, it wasn't like he knew that much about winged horses anyways.

He DID now, however, that he was more than up for riding them!! KSDJFNSKFNSDK HOW EXCITING WAS THAT? THAT WOULD GIVE HIM BRAGING RIGHTS FOR A VERY LONG TIME. Not that he would be the only one doing it, since all of the other kids there got the chance to do it, but BACK HOME they weren't riding winged horses! Ollie would be so jealous, hahalekjgskjfdkljf HE COULDN'T WAIT TO TELL HIS BROTHER ABOUT IT.

But he needed an older student to help him or something. Meh. Matt felt like he could TOTALLY do it by himself, but he just wanted to ride the horses already and not start a discussing, soooooo... "QUICK! I NEED AN OLDER SOMEONE TO RIDE THE um... ABRAXAN WITH ME, PLEASE." He chose the type of horse he would ride just there and then based purely on the mightiness of the creature.

AWESOOOOMMEEEE!!!!

Catching up and moving on - Need an older student!

They would be allowed to pet and feed the horses. That would be cool! And it seemed as if they weren’t going to all have to try and share the three…well technically four…already present before them. For as the professor’s word clued them to more, more suddenly appeared and Cassie found herself chuckling. Of course they shouldn’t always depend on just what they can currently see. Thestrals and disillusioned flying horses were perfect examples of that after all.

Stashing her notes in her robe pocket, the Ravenclaw moved to mingle with the creatures as the class dispersed around the yard. She grabbed a couple of carrots before carefully approaching one of the medium sized chestnut-colored winged horses…an Aethonan she identified. “Hey there, sweetie,” Cassie greets, adopting a nickname often used by her mother as she offered a free hand for the horse to sniff. The creature in turn moving tentatively closer to her in answer causing the ticklish feeling to her skin as he breathed. “Want one of these?” she asked, offering a carrot, gently petting the Aethonan’s neck as he nibbled.

In time they were moving on, Cassie perking up to the idea of riding her new friend. However, she sighed at the mention of having to work with an older student. She looked around as if trying to find a suitable partner who would be willing. “Anybody want a buddy?”

TeafortheSoul 09-14-2016 10:25 PM

You know what was exciting? CHAR WAS AN OLDER STUDENT!!!! This was a new thing. Being fourth year was AWESOME. Also she was an old hand at this so she wasn't the least bit apprehensive. She was honestly more excited about being an older student than about riding the winged horses, just because one was newer to her than the other.

"Who wants to work with me?!" Yeah! The TINY ones could come to HER! This was the best! FOURTH YEAR. OLDER. GROWN. SO GROWN.

Thing is, Aslan had beat him to one of the more important questions. How did you treat them with respect and not have your jaw kicked out of socket. He didn't think they were inherently aggressive creatures--'least not the thestrals--in fact, he was sure they were nothing like their winged cousins the Hippogriffs but the fact the Professor felt he had to give such a warning meant there must have been something worth noting. Only problem was...he never said what that thing was and Blaise didn't fancy an injury out of ignorance.

The Gryffindor looked about at his classmates, his quill taking down the more interesting things they did but he himself remained in his chair. It could be argued that he was learning everything he needed to from right here.

He nudged his cousin. "I think the Professor's giving us permission to display red shirt syndrome in his class." Why NOT Gryffindor their way through the activity? You could Gryffindor with respect, depending on what the horses even considered respect. He was still waiting on that. "You up for it?"

Bentley was already quite.....out of it by now. There was a lot of talking and a lot of nothing going on. It wasn't like he wasn't au fait with magical creatures but there was no blood, no yelling..no screaming..just a whole lot of talking. It was a good thing these seats were so comfortable though, he could just take a nap right here while everyone pet and prodded the horses.

"Is he really?" Bentley asked while yawning. The fourth year did shrug however. "Whatever you want to do. Merlin knows I'm about to fall asleep."

Juno had a beautiful Grabian munching out of her hands when she noticed that a younger girl didn't have a partner to ride with yet. "Do you want to partner with me? I have this beautiful Grabian over here." She began to stroke and pet the sweet winged horse. She had taken care of non-maigcal horses so much that she knew exactly how to make the horses trust her.

"We could name it together too! It Doesn't have a name yet. I can also show you how to mount." She knew the girl needed a partner and just wanted to be helpful.

Ace

Okay, so apparently Ace didn't want to talk, now but he did come join her at a neighboring Abraxian. She grinned at him. She did have to admit this was kinda fun. "Hey mister" she said patting him as high up as she could reach. "Oh, hey thanks." She said she too the brush from her nephew and started grooming his coat. "You like this, don't you boy" okay, she was really liking this horse thing.

Wait, what? Did the dummy say they were gonna ride them? Awesome! She was gonna totally do this. And two people? Maybe her and Ace could go together? "Me and you?" She asked himas she switched to he his horse. After all, they both knew how to ride horses and all. Even if it wasn't her favorite thing, she did still like them. "An older student?" No way. Why did she have to do that, she wasn't a baby. She held the horses reins as Ace talked to the professor. Curious about what he would say.

Still huffing some what, Katerina moved on looking at the other winged horses and looking for a older student to partner up with. She petted a few of the horses on the way. The third year hear so someone ask her if she wanted to partner up with her, It was Juno her prefect. She smiled "Sure. I guess I do need one." Again she believed that with her experience with mundane horses she wouldn't have any problems.

That was one of the best parts about animal or pets naming them. Carefully moving her hand and petted the grabian. "What about Gemma, She's a Grabian. so something that starts with a "G"" Kat took a apple and fed it to the winged horse. Care for horse was natural to her, She chucked knowing the other girl didn't know about her horse background. "I've got horses at home. I can do it. She was just being a good respectful student and following this rules to have a partner. She just would not mention her horse accident to the prefect....

Let's do this.

A Gryffindor girl was offering the spot of working with her causing Cassie’s attention to turn to her. However, at first glance, she wasn’t sure if she was a younger student, like herself, and needing help or a not much older looking older student offering to help others like herself. It wasn’t like 4th and even 5th year was that much older than a 3rd year. Guess there was only one way to find out which was true with the other girl. She wouldn’t really know without asking, now would she?

“I might…” the Ravenclaw replied, “What year are you? I’m third.”

Char was nearly fifteen so she OBVIOUSLY was super old compared to a third year. She blinked a few times. Why didn't this girl know her year? Couldn't she tell how grown she, Charlotte, was? She was practically a fifth year, in fact!

"Fourth!" She said cheerfully. "And my family has a stable sooooo I know all about how to do all this!" Yup!

"Awesome! You are Katerina right? I'm Juno." She said with a smile. She really was trying to get at least all of her 'Puffs names down! Juno watched as the younger girl petted and fed the winged horse.

Oh, she liked that. "Gemma! That is a great name for this beauty!" She patted the horse on the neck. They liked that, at least all of her families horses loved it. They especially loved it when you rubbed their noses. So, the younger girl had experience with horses! That was fantastic! It would make things a lot easier for them. "Oh, well that's great! My family has a stable just outside of Paris. I have been around non-magical horses my whole life. So, hopefully we can apply our experience to these horses." Juno grabbed the mounting block, though she didn't really need it. Their horse was already outfitted with a saddle and bridle so they didn't have to worry about getting that on.

Juno stepped up onto the mounting block, placing her left foot in the foothold, then swung her other foot up and over the back of the horse, landing perfectly in the front of the saddle. She made sure to find her balance and positioned her legs properly before letting the younger girl know she could hop on. "I'm all set are you ready to get on?" She asked with a smile. She made sure that she had a good grip on the reins so that the horse didn't start moving before the younger girl got on.

But the eagle did perk up when her companion finally spoke up in answer, confirming she was in fact older and therefore able to work with her so her search for a partner COULD be over. “Great!” she answered enthusiastically, stroking the Aethonan still beside her when she realized she might have seemed too enthusiastic to the horse.

“Well I’m game if you are,” Cassie remarked, still allowing the other girl the choice to work with her or not. “I’m Cassie by the way.”

Echos eyes snapped over towards the younger boy who looked like he was in Gryffindor... being very loud and you know weird.

"Kid, calm down..." geeez hes going to scare the winged horses away.

"you need to stop yelling, your going to scare them" she told him while moving over towards him. "names Echo........ now what we need to do are some certain steps.. do you remember which one was first?" she knew that he didnt look that young but she was going to see if he was paying attention or just spazing out.

Lissy Longbottom 09-15-2016 01:56 AM

OOOOH Scarlett was going to go with...an Abraxan. They were her favorites, for no other reason than she liked the name and thought they were pretty. Of course, she couldn't see the Thestrals, but she'd seen pictures and they were definitely at the bottom of the pretty list.

"Hey horsie horsie!" she called to the nearby Abraxan. She knew that they preferred whiskey, so she grabbed a nearby bucket (which was SUPER heavy) and plopped it in front of the Abraxan, who immediately came by to sniff it before starting to gulp it up anxiously.

He couldn't ride a winged horse on HIS OWN?!?!

That was BARBARIC. His family owned a stable and he's been aboard a winged horse up UP in the sky and lived to tell the tale. Why couldn't he do that now? He wasn't ten years old anymore. He was a mighty thirteen.

Sulking a bit, the boy's shoulders hung. "Anyone OLDER want to partner up with me?" SULKING.

Mother. Of. Winged horses.

They were going to ride them!!

His heart burst with giddiness. Despite having no experience with riding mundane horses at all, or magical ones for that matter, he'd read a ton of stories about the heroes riding into battle with their trusty steed. That had to count for something... and that was going to be HIM today! "I'm an older student," he said, hand shoved into the air as he turned to whoever he just heard calling out.

Too much excitement. Completely missed the sulking.

Cornelius shot a pouty face at the professor. WHYYYYY couldn't he do this on his own???

U G H.

Someone had volunteered to be brave enough to be his partner! Cornelius swirled around, a little disappointed when he saw it was no pretty girl. The guy looked a little too excited, so Cornelius figured if something were too happen this guy would be the first to react. Why? Because he'd try to save the horse while Cornelius saved himself.

"How old?" Cornelius asked, shrugging his head at the winged horse he had been feeding. This one gained a bit of his trust and he wasn't budging. "Have you ever been on a winged horse?"

He smiled at her, knowing the lie too well, his younger sisters had said the same thing the first time they'd gone to ride, so he wouldn't call her out. "They really aren't too terribly different, just their diet and the fact that they had wings." He still stroked the horse's side gently and looked at her, "Have you ever ridden a horse before?" He would have no problem jumping on the shorter horse's back... but he was also over six feet tall, unlike the little first year.

"And just be gentle with him... That's all, if you act afraid, it'll make him nervous." He smiled, "Do you want to feed him? It might help you realize that there's nothing to worry about, and it'll make him like you a bit more too." The fifth year was trying to help her calm down because they shouldn't be mounting until she was calm.

"Fifth year," he proudly stated, rubbing his hands together as he eyed the winged horse. While partnering with Marsha would've been ideal, his partner was chosen as was the horse it seemed. Honestly didn't care which one at this point as long as they got into the air.

Though his gleeful hand rub stopped abruptly. Has he ever...? "No. Have you?"

“Well I’m game if you are,” Cassie remarked, still allowing the other girl the choice to work with her or not. “I’m Cassie by the way.”

"Sure! Hi Cassie!" Charlotte noted the girl's robes and her smile grew wider. "I was supposed to be Ravenclaw too you know. My parents both were, AND they met and fell and love here while looking after Abraxan foals!" So winged horses were part of her family LEGACY.

So anyways....

"You want to ride the Aethonan?" That perked her up a bit, she preferred Granians herself and had more experience with Abraxans and Granians but that made it more interesting, a different breed. She'd only ridden those a few times.

"Does this one have a name?" Charlotte rolled up her sleeves.

Post 1, if there isn't enough older we can gladly have another younger.

Natalia knew students were wondering around looking for older ones to help them and she figured they'd come over if they wanted help. "What do you think Apollo, will we get someone to work with or will you be stuck with just me today?" She knew she'd have someone come over to her soon. Walking over she grabbed a few more treats and turned to see a third year coming over.

"Hi, I'm Natalia or just Nat is fine." She didn't really care which people called her, though most called her Nat. "Have you ever ridden winged horses before?" Most she assumed had, but some probably hadn't. She wouldn't have if it wasn't for her old school at least. "So the first thing we need to do is get Apollo to trust us. So here are some treats for you to give him."

She turned and pet him and gave him a treat before petting him and cooing at him about how great he was.

It appeared that while the first instance might have been weird, her house at least got her bonus points in her companion’s eyes. “Interesting…” Cassie mused, “Ironically both my parents were in Gryffindor so I suppose our houses are really swapped.” Certainly amusing to think about the coincidence. And maybe the love story a little too. The Ravenclaw might not be the girliest girl but she appreciated the cute story. Well brief anecdote anyway.

“I was thinking of that,” she confirmed, looking to the winged horse. “He seems to think me agreeable, though I don’t know if he does.” Have a name that is. Was there something written or tagged somewhere that she had missed? "How about Icarus if not?" He did technically fly in mythology.
