SPOILER!!: Echo Colt was kind of interested in feeding the horses as long as they didn't bite off his fingers. He saw Echo feeding the horses and figured he would join in. He nudged her and said, "I think they want some interaction.." he said taking some treats in the palm of his hand and moved a little closer to see what the horse would do. He waited patiently to see what he would do. It was eyeing him warily that is for sure. |
Owen actually didn't know if they were going to be able to ride the horses but he was very hopeful. "Not sure, but I'm betting on it," He told Henry. If Hernandez looked for volunteers, he was sure that him and his buddy will be the first ones to raise their hands. For now the man was showing the class a painting of a Thestral. Owen couldn't really see Thestrals but he has already seen pictures like the one in the painting so he pretty much knew the image of what they were dealing with. The only problem was that he didn't know where to look for it. The badger didn't have much time to dwell on that thought though because their Professor was announcing that they were going to have a pet and feed session with the winged horses now BEFORE the main activity. Did the main activity include riding and flying? GAAAAH. Owen was so pumped to move on this so called main activity but first things first. "Whoaa...damn." So many winged horses were appearing before them! How cool was that? |
Ace Text Cut: professor Samantha Swynford may not have particularly liked animals, but she did live on a farm, and Emmaleigh Salander was her sister so she she wasn't and idiot, and she did know a thing or two. And one thing she knew was the professor was clearly not making any sense. She was not satisfied in the slightest when it came to his answer of her question. There was no way water was bad for those horses. That on top of the professor telling that girl that pegasus wasn't a real winged horse. Well he was clearly the idiot, and she would be writing to her sister. Honestly though, she though crossing her arms, that was like saying the centaurs and unicorns and dragons that appeared in mythological storys weren't real. She refused to speak to the professor anymore, but when they were allowed to pet the animals, she made her way to one of the Abraxians and motioned with her head for Ace to come join her, and if he didn't, well she would stalk him down after class. What utter nonsense. |
They were going to get to give the horses treats. Natalia was so excited that she almost jumped up and down. She stood still though and waited until they were allowed to go over. There were so many in the class today would she even get to pet one? Though Nat knew she got to see them daily when she was in the barn. If this professor could get any cooler he just did. MORE HORSES!!! Her eyes went wide as she looked around at all of them. Seeing Apollo she scooted towards her favorite as the Professor finished up what he was saying. Treat in hand she moved to him and pet his head, "Hey buddy. Didn't know you were going to be here today. Have you been having fun out?" Lowering her hand in front of him she let him take the treat from her. Good horse, so calm and gentle. Soon she was singing to him like she always did not caring if the class heard her or not. This was her favorite thing and she would do it for them. |
Aslan...and anyone else who wants to try and coax a threstal over :3 Paige couldn't help but hang on every question Aslan was asking (hard not to, she was a journalist at heart) while trying to balance her quill and parchment in one hand while reaching for some slices of raw meat to try and lure one of the threstals to her. Movements that actually brought her on by the Gryffindor. "There are some over that way," she nodded, eyes briefly glancing towards the back of the area. "I assume they are part of the herd that pull the carriages start of term." Just to explain why there were more than one present and why Hogwarts would have more than one in general. Or something. Something that had not entirely registered with her while she had been riding them this term, her thoughts distracted and far from Hogwarts at the time. Offering one last timid smile, Paige walked around her and over towards one of the other, nameless for now, threstals and shyly held out a piece of meat for it. Which certainly did catch the creature's attention, its white eyes with a hungry gleam about it, but did not make any advances towards her. Pursing her lips, and perhaps feeling just a tiny tinge of jealousy that others were so easily able to approach their selected winged horse with such ease, the seveth year lobbed the meat towards it and took a small step back just to ensure it that she was no threat. The movement started it at first, hooves pounding the ground and hopping a few steps back itself, but soon its leathery nose was sniffing at the ground and harsh beak of a mouth tearing at her offering. All the while Paige held out another piece of meat towards it, standing very still in place until the threstal was done with the first piece and showed interest in the one in her hand. |
Quote:
Paige then threw a piece of meat in the air. It did not vanish like expected, instead it laid on the ground for a moment before started getting dragged around and torn at. "*gasps*" Wow. Look, now the piece in her hand was moving! With a grin, the third year marched towards the Hufflepuff. "Uhm, hi. Can I also feed them with you? Do you think they know I can't see them?" Would they be offended if she missed and hit their heads? Could they move their heads? SO MANY QUESTIONS but Genny wanted to try first. |
OH, there was a painting! Edging her way around the crowd, Olivia converged on it, hoping to get a better look at what had to be so tragic that only death could open ones eyes to it's visage. And upon seeing it, the small blonde supposed she understood. It was mostly brittle bone and black, leathery flesh.... but then again, it wasn't really flesh, was it? It was more like a skin coat worn over a skeleton.... Hmm. She couldn't rightfully say why the sight of it kinda saddened her. ..... The ones she COULD see, the graceful creatures now crowding the pasture, well, Liv had pretty much DIED and gone straight up to heaven. It was like being five years old all over again, and her da lifting her up, sitting her atop her very first horse. Even though those had been muggle, without the glorious wings, it still inspired a wave of nostalgia. Completely fearless, she approached a gigantic white one, reaching out her hands to cup it's cheek. If horses could be said to have cheeks. It was large, but with her recent growth spurt, they weren't too out of reach. Where could she find a brush, Professor? IT WAS IMPORTANT. LIFE-DEFYING ...... :whaa: |
Paige and Genny! They got to go up close to the pretty winged creatures! That was so cool! Harriet wanted to do that. She was a little scared though. Could she do it on her own? What if she scared them? Though she was going to be good and respect them. She was sure they were probably more scared of her, though she wasn't going to scare them. She liked creatures, she didn't want to scare them. She kind of wanted to get closer to the Thestral. Even though she couldn't see them. She knew lots about the other creatures. It was the Thestral she was interested in. She was just standing around, watching when she noticed that Paige seemed to be feeding thin air! But she wasn't! She was feeding a Thestral! Carefully Harriet approached the older puff, and the other girl that she was with them. "Do they look scary Paige?" Because she figured something that represented death must look scary. |
Catching the look that Finn gave him after the Professor had told him to not read a book before class , something he still did not understand, Mason shrugged his shoulders in the hope that the young Ravenclaw wouldn't try to defend him. Because he knew he would have done it if it happened to someone else but luckily none of that happened and class continued as usual. After writing down his notes in his notebook, Mason stood up from him beanbag and followed everyone to meet the horses. The smallest horse, Maxine caught his attention because it looked so normal compared to the others and when the Professor told them to get to know them, he walked towards that one. It also happened to be the same horse Leesha had chosen and being a good older student that he was, ahem, he let her go first. However, when she jumped back when the horse made a movement, he could not stop the smirk on his face. He didn't say anything though, Leesha had a short temper and he was sure the girl would be kicked out if he provoked her. On the other hand, it was tempting...no Mason, no. |
SPOILER!!: Genny & Hattie ^^ Waiting for a reaction, and to her delight receiving one as the threstal actually took a step towards her, Paige tried her best not to gasp or make any other such noises in fear of frightening it back into retreat. Maybe...she should lob this peice half way between her and it? Not push her luck? "Hmm?" she murmered, her attention drawn to the younger Gryffindor who had appeared by her side. "Oh, sure. Here. I have a couple of extra slices still," she said, offering one as she did. "I...can't say for sure? If they are aware or not if people can see them." That seemed like something perhaps the professor could tell them though. "I've never read about them having a sixth sense for that sort of thing...but then again...it would also make sense for there to be some sort of magical connection between their milky eyes and those that have seen death. Perhaps a similiar sort of magical bond found between a wizard and their familiar..." So...basically little lion...the seventh year did not know...but she was pretty good at speculation. Smiling at Hattie as she made her way over, Paige shook her head. "Surprising is more like it," she corrected, at least to her. "But...it's easy to understand why they receive such a misconceived reputation. Especially when standing next to the other winged horse breeds. No feathers or flowing manes...but black skeletal forms with whiplike tails and wings like a bat's. But the eyes are still soft and eerily warm." The threstal had come much closer during the girls' conversation, its breath tickiling Paige's skin as it began to eat the meat she still clutched in her hand. "And he is right in front of us now," she whispered. The attention of others nearby had been drawn to the trio as well. After all, where there were more humans...there were more meat offerings. |
Harvey approached one of the horses, treat held rather nervously in his hand. They were so big! And so majestic! He'd never ridden a horse before, but he had often thought about it - it was such a popular Muggle sport he couldn't help but wonder what it was all about. Would they get to ride them? That would be amazing... Distracted with such thoughts, Harvey was standing right in front of a gleaming chestnut before he even realised it. Lifting up his hand gingerly, palm flat (that's what they always did in the movies, right?) he offered the treat. The treat was accepted. Harvey breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, moving his hand slowly to pet the creature. This was great! |
Text Cut: Hattie and Paige :3 Genny smiled at the Hufflepuff whom she met at the cosmetic shop during summer before she focused again on Paige and what she was saying. So, Thestrals did not look scary but surprising, with wings like bats? "Wooow." The magical properties thing made sense to her. She decided t believe they knew when people saw them or not, eye contact was a vital thing in the end. In fact, now she was thinking of ways to be able to see a real one, not see it via someone else. Maybe her dad would help her with that.... somehow... "Thanks!" She chirped, taking a slice of meat in her hand and not minding the bloody stench it gave. Wait, what?? Genny froze when the older girl whispered he was in front of them now. Brown eyes going wide, she felt her body tense at the thought of being seen but not see anything. It was so vulnerable and something she wasn't used to. Her vulnerabilities were... well, almost nonexistent so this was completely a new experience. "Can I feed him, too? Tell me if I'm close..." the eager Gryffindor rose her hand with the meat slice to her shoulder's height and fixed it there. How tall were they exactly? |
Carrots, grass, eww groooossssss raw meat, definitely staying away from the whiskey.. How about a nice handful of corn? Ew, sorta slimy and cold. Hopefully the horses would like that. Next up, find a horse. Well, there was that really tall one over there. A... um.. Aethonan, yeah. But Finnlay was really short, so that wasn't going to work. Ohhh there was a shorter one, probably younger. Just like me, he thought with a smile. Finn approached cautiously, catching the horse's eye and smiling nervously. He held out the handful of corn so it could focus on the treat to be had rather than rearing up and kicking him to a pulp. "Hi, I'm Finn," he said soothingly, not knowing what else to say. "You hungry?" Silly question, it was breakfast time! He finally made it close enough and offered the corn. "You're definitely hungry," he said with amusement as the horse instantly began to gobble it up. "I'll get you some more, be right back!" he said excitedly, heading to the supplies for some carrots. |
Quote:
It wasn't until a small voice at her side finally broke through her haze causing her to blink at the younger boy for a second. Huh? Oh, oh he wanted to join her. The seventh year put a smile on her face and nodded. "Hello, of course you can join me if you like." She took a small step to the side allowing there to be a little more space between them so that (Jace) could get closer. Even though he had just said he couldn't see Thestrals it was very clear that one was there. Firstly, she could see it. Second it was munching away on the meat in the boys bucket. A small laugh escaped her lips as Jace's eyes grow wide in amazement. "I think Sinatra likes the meat you brought over," she told him quietly. Being asked if she could see him she meerly nodded her head. "I can. I think he is, he certainly seemed to enjoy the meat." Hady reached out a hand once more but this time in offering to Jace. "Give me your hand and I can help you pet him...if you like." Since she could see it there wouldn't be a chance in harming it if she helped the smaller boy. Would it feel like he was petting it, well that she wasn't entirely sure but they would find out. |
So the professor sees threstal. Who was the one he witnessed? Sean suddenly became curious but then again it wasn't his place to pry. After the answers the professor is finally giving them a short chance to meet and greet with these lovely horses. Boy, Sean was excited to do that one. He looked at the special treats and walked towards it. He placed a couple of apples in his left robe pocket and a few carrots on his right. This is exciting. He got near to the smallest one. He slides his hand down to get the fruit and tossed it over to the winged horse. It was a delight to see it eat the fruit. Sean had a big smile on his face. He slowly got nearer but was still inches away. He didn't want to just surprise the horse immediately. He rolled another apple after the horse finished eating the first. Sean did the same thing until he was close enough to pet the horse's head. Are they allowed to do that? Sean didn't do it for long. He touch the hair but then he completely pulled away 5 seconds after. It's still fun though. BEST. ACTIVITY. EVER |
Paige, Genny and Hattie too! Quote:
Oh! And now they were LOTS of winged horses for them to go see. Sam hung back for a few moments, trying to decide which to go see first. She'd try and make her way round them all, eventually, but she was most easily drawn to the thestrals. She just wasn't sure if that would reveal something about herself that she didn't want her classmates to know. It wasn't exactly common to be able to see them by the age of 13, was it. Luckily, it was then she saw Genny headed towards an older Hufflepuff girl already feeding one. Her mind now made up, Sam fetched a small bucket of meat, and cautiously approached the group, her gaze steady on the creature. "Min' if I join yeh?" she asked quietly, mindful of scaring the winged horse. |
His hand was in the air immediately, finding he did have questions before he went about this making nice with the horses business. Thing is, Aslan had beat him to one of the more important questions. How did you treat them with respect and not have your jaw kicked out of socket. He didn't think they were inherently aggressive creatures--'least not the thestrals--in fact, he was sure they were nothing like their winged cousins the Hippogriffs but the fact the Professor felt he had to give such a warning meant there must have been something worth noting. Only problem was...he never said what that thing was and Blaise didn't fancy an injury out of ignorance. The Gryffindor looked about at his classmates, his quill taking down the more interesting things they did but he himself remained in his chair. It could be argued that he was learning everything he needed to from right here. He nudged his cousin. "I think the Professor's giving us permission to display red shirt syndrome in his class." Why NOT Gryffindor their way through the activity? You could Gryffindor with respect, depending on what the horses even considered respect. He was still waiting on that. "You up for it?" |
SPOILER!!: Sam, Genny and Paige Harriet really wished that she could see the Thestrals. Not in a she wanted to see someone die, but because she wanted to see them. She wanted to see what they looked. Sure she had Paige's description, and that drawing, but it just wasn't the same as seeing it for herself. She was an artist and she loved drawing things. So not being able to see the thestral kind of sucked. But in a good way. Because she hadn't seen someone die, which was always a positive. "I wish I could see them...." She murmured with a little pout. She really wanted to see them. "They sound pretty cool though... unlike other creatures" Which was good. Things being different were good. She liked different things. Though she still wished that she could see them. Wait. One was right by them? Hattie blinked, nearly taking a step back. "He won't bite us right?" She figured he must have come closer because they had food. Hattie would come closer for food, so she figured that the thestrals would too. "I wanna feed them too...." But she'd need some direction. She didn't wanna just be holding her hand out for the sake off it. She smiled as another student came over to them. "Hi! Can you see them?" |
Quote:
"Some of the horses here are already here since the previous professors and they already have names. There are several new horses that I haven't named yet. Feel free to give them one if you want to." He answered. And a certain way to be respectable to the horses, maybe she meant that if they needed to bow or something like that... "You don't need necessarily to bow like when you're facing the hippogriffs. Just simply stroking their mane to petting their head, especially when you're about to ride them. They need to recognize the person who will ride on their back would do no harm and trust them enough to give you a ride." Yeah, it might sound ridiculous but it was true. Some winged horses didn't like when a stranger rode on their back and something bad like kicked that person off could possibly happen. Quote:
................... Done with answering the questions, Jordan then announce what should they do next. "Students, now I will teach you how to ride the winged horses. For those who can ride a mundane one, this might be a little bit easier for you because the basics are pretty much similar." He said as he walked approaching Maxine. "For the beginners, I recommend you to ride using the saddle and bridle, although we can ride them without those two." But still, reins and saddle were the safer option. Don't worry, Jordan already put the saddles and bridle so they didn't need to do that. "Like I have said first, you need to show your respect to the horse. Simply just stroke their mane or gently pet their head, so they could recognize you as the rider. Then gently mount on the horse. I have provided the mounting blocks for you here." He said as he demonstrated the steps: Gently stroked on their mane, then mounted on the back of the horse using the blocks. "Once you've mounted, you need to find your balance and put your feet at the foothold. Then hold your bridle properly." He showed the students the next steps. He had balanced his seat, put his feet at the foothold, and helt the bridle properly. "And then you're ready to fly. Just gently squeeze your horse with both of your legs to signal your horse to fly. To make them land, just gently pull out bridle." He gently squeezed Maxine with both of his legs and then the horses started taking off from the backyard. Jordan flew with Maxine for about five minutes and then they landed safely by gently pull the bridle. "Each horses can carry up two two students. First until Third year students should ride the horse with an older students due to safety reason." He announced before dismounting off Maxine. "Now you guys can try to ride them on around here. If you guys have any questions and concerns, just raise your hand and call on me." OOC: It's the activity time! ^_^ just like what Jordan said, here's simply the steps of riding the horse: 1. Petting/Stroking 2. Mounting 3. Finding balance and positioning your legs 4. Holding the bridle/rein 5. Signaling them to take off by squeezing them with your legs 6. Pulling of the bridle/rein gently to land 7. Dismounting. Only the abraxans, granians and aethonans are available for the riding. Three posts minimum to gain a full point in this activity. 1st-3rd year students should ride the horse with the older students. And no serious injuries happen, please. Jordan had charmed the backyard area to keep them safe ^____^ any questions/concern? just nudge me on VM/PM/Twitter  and I give you guys 48 hours to do this activity. Have fuuuun!!!! :x3: P.S: If you guys want to continue the feeding/petting, you can still do that. |
Who want my first year!? NO! NO! NO! She didn't wanted to sit on one of those horses! Let along fly with one! Flying on a broom? No problem, but flying on the back of a horse? Absolutely NOT! With her face pale she swallowed, not liking it at all but, she refused to stay behind, she was no coward! Putting her hands in her pockets she breathed a few more times before stepping forward toward the smallest horse again but stopped. Who was going to ride the horse with her? She hoped that it wasn't going to be a stupid person because she already was nervous enough! |
*sticks to Hady* :3 Quote:
“Oh...he is?” Jace looked at the Head Girl again; a pleasant smile plastered on his face and looked back at where the Thestral’s head might be. “You’re welcome, Sinatra-san.” A happy thestral is a grateful thestral, right? Oh and...REALLY?! Jace’s face lit up and nodded at the Head Girl. “Please?” he asked offering his hand to Hady. “I’d like to pat its head...and brush the side of his face?” Was it too much to ask? “If I can feel his wings too that’ll be great...I-I hope it’s not too much to ask.” He said sheepishly to the older student. He’s talking to the Head Girl after all. SPOILER!!: Activity WAIT WHAT??? THEY GET TO RIDE ONE OF THE WINGED HORSES? Merlin, Christmas came early today! "Uhm...also...can I ride with you on your choice of winged horse?" Too bad they can't ride Sinatra-san. That would've been awesome...but then again, maybe Thestral's aren't for riding. |

He walked up to the horse she had started to and gently stroked the horses side and looked back at her, "It's like the professor said, so long as you're kind to them, they'll be kind to you." The fifth year smiled, "I'm Philipe, by the way." |
question to the professor heeeeeeeeeeere SPOILER!!: Genny, Hattie, & Sam! :D Threstals were such bittersweet creatures and hearing the likes of Hattie and Genny lamenting the fact that they could not yet see them was a somber reminder of that. On the one hand, there was nothing wrong with being able to see them and death was such a natural process in life there shouldn't be recoiling from it. Nor where there any bad omens to be had and the misplaced stigma on the creatures was just that, misplaced. But the other side of the threstal coin was how sad it was for young eyes to be able to see them. Something now her mind could not cease thinking about in light of her History of Magic paper on the Second Wizarding War. All those second years and up who had seen the horrors of battle and how the entire Hogwarts population back then, essentially, were able to see thestrals. It was...a little humbling to be in times where this was not the case, and Paige found herself spiraling into gratitute at the thought. No offense, thestrals. Shaking her head from her thoughts, Paige returned her focus on Hattie and Genny. "Not on purpose," she assure Hattie. Probably. "Why it is best you keep your hand flat when offering the meat so the thestral doesn't accidentally nip off your fingers." And Genny was...sort of facing the entirely wrong direction, so the seventh year stood behind her and gently coaxed her into proper position including getting her arm and thestral mouth level. "Now just keep still..." she instructed Genny. "He has noticed...and...Hattie...come stand next to Genny in the same position. He'll likely make his way down the line if he isn't full." Paige recognized Sam for Dora reasons and smiled warmly at the Ravenclaw. "Not at all," she chirped, noting that Sam had already grabbed a bucket of meat rather than go the curious approach as the other two had. And then the professor was speaking...and the seventh year felt her stomach drop. Of course. OF COURSE. She had seen this coming - and really, who hadn't? - but had been praying somewhere in the back of her mind that they would be learning grooming ettiquette or anything other than riding them. Because riding meant flight and flight meant paralyzing terror for the Hufflepuff. And here she was with two third years and a second. All of whom required a riding partner. "Professor...is there a signal to...um...just make them canter and trot? Sans flight?" She threw the three girls standing near her apologetic looks. Betting on the wrong older student, ladies. Apologies. |
oh man #catchup + Proffesah question :3 They could pet the horses!.....but afterwards? Tenacius wondered why the wait until the Professor showed off the feeders and the OTHER HORSES. ASDFASDFASDFA!! As soon as the Creatures man gave the go signal, the Curly Top bolted for the whiskey barrel and grabbed a bucketful, then headed towards one of the other Abraxans, the more golden colored one, which incidentally was next to the Abraxan Sammy was with. "Hey--" checks the nether regions "--girl, how are you? Do you have a name? My name's Ace." Pet pet gentle petting, he managed to even swipe a brush and gave the gorgeous horse some grooming. Did Sam wanna groom her horse too? He offers the brush just in case. "Here you go girl...." he offered the Abraxan the whiskey bucket, occasionally stroking her mane and her body. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Genny and a few other students surrounding.... something. As far as he could see there was nothing, other than the fact that the older Hufflepuff student Genny was talking to (Paige) had bits of meat in her hand that was just vanishing into thin air! "Whooahhhh...." the Curly Top murmured. That has got to be a Thestral. Clearly he couldnt see it, but he can see the effects of it. Can he check that out? But he really didnt want to leave the golden Abraxan that has taken to liking him. And while he was pondering this, the Magiczoologist gave the go signal that they could ride them. ASDFASDFASDFASDF this was what he was waiting for! Of course he paid attention to the Professor's instructions on how to mount the horses, and watched the man fly about. It was amazing and breathtaking and gorgeous and yeah. He knows how it feels to be up there. Thanks Mom! Which is why he was chomping at the bit to get the go signal that they can fly the horses. And there it is! Prof said they can start mounting.... ....whoah wait full stop. Did he hear that right? He had to ride the horse with an older student? But whyyyy? He looked around at the older students, who if he was being very honest, looked like they havent mounted any kind of horse outside of a merry-go-round. But he knew how. Granted the Equine flying was with his Mom, but he knew how to do it. He was tall(ish) enough now too for his feet to reach the stirrups. He can ride alone now. There was a creeping sense of panic and despair that he might not be allowed to ride this fantastic beast. He had to talk to the Prof, convince him that he can handle it like he's always had. "Professor Hernandez....may I have a word Sir?" the leonine lad started gently "Uhm.... my family supports a sanctuary with different Equine creatures, Abraxans being one of them...." he nudged his head at the winged horses surrounded by students "And my Mom well, she's been taking me to care for these creatures in Germany even before we had the sanctuary, like way back, since I was like.... 5." so his exuberance wasnt just innate interest in these horses, he was started really young. "I've ridden them before, both on the ground and flying, so I was wondering....... can I ride the Abraxan alone? IknowwhattodohonestIdo" he added earnestly. Pretty please? |
Any younger students want to pair with a sixth year? She listened, okay kid of listened to the professor as he started talking about how to ride them. Natalia winked at Apollo knowing that she knew how to ride them already. She felt like she knew lots about the horses already without class, but wasn't going to complain that they got to ride them and feed them in a lesson. This was the greatest lesson ever and any anxiety she had before was fully forgotten. Nat gave Apollo another treat and sang quietly to him as the professor continued with his instructions. When it was time to get started she did hear about the older kids working with the younger and her eyes moved around. Which younger student was going to be her partner. "If anyone wants to partner up with me Apollo wouldn't mind." She turned back to the horse and pet his head a bit. How exciting was this! Soon she'd be in the air! |
