Seriously??? Points for just admiting that you didn't have a clue what arithmasy was? He only knew where it came from. He might have read a book once. So? Raising his hand he started to answer. "Isn't Arithmacy a form of divination from Greese?" He asked. Yeah. That's it! |
Cass had been listening, though Azura seemed to have the answer to the question covered. Well her and Charlotte once the lion girl joined in on the discussion. However, the professor expounded upon the matter of divination more than anything else, to its more ‘muggle-known’ title of astrology. Yes, Arithmancy was often considered as a way of trying to figure out the plans and expectations for one’s life. As well as a better understanding of what had already happened there. Which a fellow Ravenclaw third year remarked on. She really needed to get faster in giving answers, especially when class, or at least the professor, seemed to be moving quickly. Well anyway, she'd be taking down notes until she could jump in or they were doing the practical. |
Other subjects that Arithmancy showed up in? Divination and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Livvy had a point about Ancient Runes, he supposed. "I guess you can find Arithmancy in Charms too." What did the boy who never attended Charms class know about Charms? Surprisingly a lot. "Curses fall under the branch of 'Dark Charms" and sometimes you can use numbers and such to infuse curses into the objects that you'll end up using Arithmancy to remove later on." It was all a vicious cycle really. As for Arithmancy and Astrology....the boy took a moment's pause. Why were they talking about Astrology? How did Astrology have any clout outside of Divination class? Slowly, the boy raised his hand. "Both sometimes try to tell you about your future with the use of arbitrary information." THAT was what they had in common. Outside of that, Blaise wasn't entirely sure the too mixed well. |
How else is Arithmancy connected to at Hogwarts? Well Azura pretty much nailed it on the head… oh but what about "Sir, what about the movement patterns of the staircase?" Some aspects of magical maths has to be working on that eh? And Arithmancy is related to Astrology? Ohh Professor Vance turf and her tea shop class with them sandwiches and cakes and-- oh! "Sir…. They’re related through things like the Birth Chart? Since its divided into 12 segments and its got House numbers and planets and stuff?" |
Could she open her book and just do her own stuff for class? Nat was trying to pay attention, but her focus just wasn't having it. She was doodling on her parchment. Going from what is Arithmancy to what it's connected to. Azura was quick with the answer and she is was of course correct so doodling was going to happen again. The Sirens, TDK, and random names were going on her parchment, along with hearts, faces, and flowers. She might not be an artist, but doodling was something she found herself doing often. Hearing the professor again she lifted her eyes thinking they were going to start working. Her hand raised as for the first time all class, "Divination and Arthimancy can work very closely and with Astrology it sets in with different charts, such as the birth chart. The birth chart as was said has the 12 segments and is set with the moon and the sun, but they also take into consideration your birth number that goes with your astrology sign. These constellations and settings all work together to predict things about yourself and your past, present, and future." Now back to doodling. |
Okay why wasnt her brain working, everyone was giving such great answers. ughhh. Taking our her parchment she wrote down all the notes that everyone said. After Nat said her piece she smiled and nodded over to her, that made sense the brith date and the stars thing. Good thing if she needed help studying Echo could ask her for help later. |
Azura smiled and looked down at her notes, since she had said her piece last time, she was going to let everyone else talk this time. No one liked a know it all, yeah? However she titled her head as the Professor mentioned Astrology.. Hmm.. interesting.. Az was taking notes as she listened to the rest of the class carefully. |
OOC: Thanks for your patience everyone - this weekend has been a bit topsy turvy for me and i have finally been able to post - I should continue the lesson in about 12 hours (maybe more-so) |
Kitty raised her hand. "Professor, do you mind if I use my Quick Quotes Quill to write down all of this? It's just that I want to look at it again after class." Recently she had taken to asking professors permission before using it in classes just in case they thought it was rude. Then she bent down and began trying to determine her life path number. Once before she had done it but she had forgotten what it was. She was born in the year 2076, on October 1st... |
((What is the current year in this roleplay?)) ============== Jonas watches as he begins to write down notes...on two seperate pieces of paper. Just in case the professor said no, he could just hand over the second copy to Kitty. Either that or if the professor said yes, Jonas has another copy in case something happens. |
Catching up!! Noelle was in the class the whole time. Munching on her chocolate of course. She was delighted that the professor had given out chocolate. Mmmm delicious. Now, that the chocolate was savored, Noelle neatly wrote her name, house, and year down. Noelle Grace Summers Fourth year Lioness She didn't add anything more. She would prove what else she was. Pulling out her quill and parchment, she immediately began to take notes when the professor began speaking. ....... okay, so he was pretty and taking notes would help her focus more than staring at his pretty face. This was Arithmancy after all. One of her hardest subjects. She needed to focus to make the grades that gave her the upper leg. Noelle wrote the textbook answer of what arthimancy was. She knew it. She also knew it tied in with other things.... like DADA. Maybe Noelle could coax Henry into helping her study. Because this was a subject she definitely needed help with. |
Jonas looked up at the board. He understood the first part, add the year, your month and day. Of course but how did the other numbers arise?? |
SO...in the end.....trying to talk about their futures and their personalities based on arbitrary input. Blaise was one of those people who firmly believed that his birth date--no matter how finely you calculated it, couldn't tell you his temperament or the luck he was likely to have in the future. It was much the same way that the "star under which he was born" did basically nothing as well. He was still considering whether or not he needed all this information but he let his quill take it down anyway, much like he'd done every other time ever. The boy glanced briefly over at the Ravenclaw Prefect when she asked permission to use the quill. She was either unaware or overly polite. Blaise had been taking his quick quotes quills to classes since his first year and not a single Professor had had a problem with it. Rather than say anything, the boy simply pulled a piece of parchment from his bag to do the calculations. So as not to disturb anyone, the boy began mumbling everything he needed jotted down, giving keen instructions on when to add, what the sum came to, when to drop to the next line. Left to itself, the quill would only make a mess of things. Quote:
Stupid master numbers. Always had extra complications with them. |
Looking around, Jonas wondered if this was going to be okay... Quote:

Life path numbers. Okay, one of the numbers trying to predict your future. Cassie turned to chapter 6 of the textbook as directed so she could follow along as she herself worked on what she needed to. Her birthdate at least was well-known to her so it wasn’t a difficult bit of information to work with. She just had to follow through with the calculations like Professor Carraro demonstrated on the board so the number she ended up with was indeed the number she was supposed to end up with. Out came a clear sheet of parchment that was soon topped with her birthdate as the Ravenclaw moved to begin. SPOILER!!: Work So if her math was correct, her life path number was 3. And Mars in way of planetary objects. Scanning down through the number explanations, she found the ones that fit. Spontaneous and creative…jovial and versatile…she could be that. Into her notes, Cassie copied the passages for ready reference. SPOILER!!: Work Continued |
just clarifying things

Honestly, if the class had anything to do with curse-breaking, Jace wouldn’t be so bored. But given that a review wouldn’t be so bad the Ravenclaw took his quill, and started to jot down notes in Japanese and added his own thoughts and opinions about the connection of Astrology and Arithmancy. If he was to master the numbers, and be able to do things on a particular planetary arrangement then maybe, things will be in his favour. Following everyone, he got his book out of his bag and quickly did a read through on that particular page. He still couldn’t understand why some would find this subject hard. Everything is pretty much straightforward when it comes to numbers really. SPOILER!!: Parchment Reading both his Life Path Number and Vibration Number, Jace took a moment to internalize what he just read…and wondered if there was any truth in it? He read the spiritual meaning of five…and had to agree with it. He did appreciate the wonder of life, and even accepts the chaos that goes with it. Traveling though? Yes, he’s been traveling to and from Japan every year due to school, but apart from that…he really doesn’t see himself move around that much in the future. |
Jonas jumped a bit as he was startled. But he nodded none the less. "Thanks." he said. He felt a need to ignore the other question though. :/ He then turned his attention to the information on the board. He saw that it was a lot to take in. Well crud. Alright. |
Azura was alway so curious about things like this..Couid finding her life path really help out at all? Goodness in Divinarion her whole egg dropping thing had shown her a chain.. which meant an engagement.. so uhh.. not quite right huh? Anyways.. it was time to get to work.. SPOILER!!: Az's notes ........ Welll... great.. Azura looked at her results with a rather annoyed look in her purple eyes.. She doubled checked her math again. Yup.. 4. Great she was as dull as dish water.. loyal dependable, boring as all get out. Her career choices included being an accountant? Really? She hated numbers.. For Fwoopers sake! She wanted to be a classical pianist.. not.. that.. She pushed her parchment away from her with a bit of disgust.. she wasn't going to let some number tell her who she was.. She was emotional, kind, caring, a good friend, creative, artistic and passionate. That's who she was and nothing was going to tell her different. |
She still didn’t really see the point to Arithmancy. As far as Brooklyn was concerned, and ironically it seemed as if the discussion had touched upon the subject, it was maybe one step above divination in its usefulness, and sometimes much more complicated than even runes. In short, it required work, and the only positive note to the lesson was the fact Professor Carraro mentioned leaving copies of the class notes for them if they wanted to avail themselves of it. It meant she had an excuse not to take notes, and she’d merely sat and listened as the discussion had turned to life paths and vibrational numbers. Still entirely unconcerned with the general idea, she’d still taken a sheet of parchment out to scribble on. If anything she was curious if the analysis would actually resonate with her in any way, but that didn’t mean she was doing the math voluntarily. It was merely to pass the time until the lesson was over. SPOILER!!: math is ew :P Scanning over the descriptions, she raised an eyebrow. About the only part of that that explained her in any way was the reference to dancing, and she could assume that music was inferred by the etcetera part. Everything else just seemed irrelevant. |
Yo, yo, YO! Olivia was already dreading not skipping this class today. Like, yes, she loved the five points she'd earned, but numbers made the Gryffindor feel like she was going to have a meltdown. Stupid really, as they were just numbers, but... Well, they seemed rather unnecessary at the moment. SIGH. Pulling out some parchment she carefully wrote our her birthday. Quote:
UGH, Where was Ethan Dixon when she needed him? He would've been much better suited in helping her with this. Well, more so than her figuring it out on her own. Obviously, she'd siked her own self out about things. It was simple addition, but her brain couldn't seem to read that and understand that it was all really quite simple. Quote:
Er. "Can someone please tell me if this is right?" |
Life Path numbers, he's known about, but it being connected to the Vibration planet? Whoah now that is new stuff. He pulled out his parchment and scribbled down his date of birth. And then did some number crunching. Brows goes up when he realized that he and the Professor have the same life path number and therefore the same planetary influencer on their life vibes. SPOILER!!: Tenacius numbers |
Olivia at the end Finally. Henry had grown rather bored with the discussion and review, and he didn't care that much about how the subject correlated with other subjects. He just wanted to do some calculations, and if they were going to do curse breaking as was briefly mentioned at the beginning of class, even better. Life path numbers. Chapter six. Got it. Henry knew the basics of calculating a number from his name or birthdate, but he turned to the appropriate page anyway and got to work. In his earlier boredom, he had pretty much covered his parchment with doodled numbers of all shapes, sizes, and fonts, so he pulled out a blank page to start over. Quote:

Next was the Vibrational Number, and that was a new concept for the fourth year. And that was cool with him, because he was eager to learn something interesting today. Looking up at the information on the board, Henry searched for number two and wrote down that information down in his notes as well. Quote:
"Hey.. mind if I look?" He glanced at her parchment, looking over her calculations. "Okay.. you want to make sure you reduce all your numbers to a single digit, even at first." He pointed to her birth year. "See how you just used the two, the zero, and each seven in your year? You should do that with the twelve of your date, and just use one plus two instead of twelve." He could write it out for her if it would make more sense that way, but they were her notes and he didn't want to just assume that he could. Quickly, he added up the numbers in his head. "You still get five, so yeah! You have the right answer," he said with a cheerful smile. "But I don't know if it would always work that way if you didn't reduce all the numbers first. It's really important, especially for Master Numbers and Karmic Numbers." |
They were going to do numbers! THEY WERE DOING NUMBERS!! Nat was so excited she pulled her parchment out, though she rarely ever needed it. Numbers were so easy for her. Listening to the professor and to the class she wrote down her birthday and then smiled as the numbers and equations just jumped off the page. 11 was of course 2, 1 was easy, and her year of birth was 2073 This was so simple, but she knew she had to write something they always needed to see the work. Glancing around the room she wondered if she could get away with just writing the answer. SPOILER!!: parchment |
Right then...so two numbers to work with which sounded like a lot more work. Typically, the Gryffindor didn't mind more work but when it came to numbers and figuring things out, it only served to complicate things. Just take a look at right now; falling under two numbers and having to remember that both would supposedly have some effect on him. Admittedly, it wasn't a tremendous amount of work, just awful bothersome when you boiled down to it. "Right. Thanks, Professor." He said simply, his own eyes falling to his text. It didn't take much reading for him to decide that for the most part, none of this had anything to do with him--especially not the vibrational number and the moon. As in, what did that even MEAN???? Livvy's request pulled Blaise from the jumbles of words that met him on his page. Naturally he'd have gone to take a look for her but Henry was already on the case explaining things and such. If the boy figured Liv's work was right, he didn't suppose there was need for a second opinion. This was mostly just addition. |
