As you enter the classroom you notice that this looks exactly like a normal everyday classroom. Desks lined up in rows and Professor Sokolov up at a his desk in the front lounging in his chair. The only difference is what is written on the board behind Professor Sokolov would not be be found in any normal school. Runic Alphabet. That is what the students would be learning today.
Also each desk has a rune engraved in it. But that is for later.
Right Underneath Runic Alphabet. He wrote
No Assigned Seats sit where you please
Come in and lets continue Professor Sokolov trying to remember your name.
OOC: Hey Everyone! I will be moving in about 24 hours. Also while this is the OUR first lesson together it is not YOUR charrie's first lesson

Still she couldn't find it. She was now fully certain her marking on her desk was not a rune. Not that her looking kept overlooking the rune. She shut her book quite hard and just looked around the room frustrated. Why would he give a desk a fake rune? This just didn't make any sense to her so she looked over at Paige, "psssst Paige... Do you think the professor might have accidentally or even on purpose gave some fake runes?" She felt super dumb even asking.
EARTHQUAKE WHAT?
Her brown eyes snapped to the front of the room where she heard someone say about shaking desks? They were shaking? "Maybe your eyes played tricks on you."
So within the first few minutes of this class Miranda sat there mouth gaping not having a flippin' clue as to what was going in the class or what any of the Runes meant... It was hopeless... she'd never be able to figure this stuff out and by the looks of the rest of the class most had a similar take on their shared predicament.even some of the older students looked completey confused....

Come to think of it, the boy might have been more willing if she'd offered something that DIDN'T require the use of his wand, but nope, Char was very insistent on those two subjects whenever she had an itch to work together.
At no point did he think his statement would backfire of him, making him naturally very happy that Char had gone along with it. Much solemn nodding ensued at his cousin's words. "Yours and mine both. We can get her snacks from the kitchen or something, I'm sure she won't mind at all." Afterall, it was what friends were for.
When prompted, the boy looked to his rune again. The thing is, he knew what it was....and he was aware of Perthro's uses but...."Something you wanna tell me Professor?" The boy asked, raising his hand even as he had his quick quotes quill scribble the uses of Perthro that fell into fertility, easing childbirth, help with divination and magic and enhancing psychic abilities.
Fertility? Childbirth? Clearly this guy wanted his Mum killing him. Clearly.

Oeh oeh, maybe this class wasn’t so bad, learning about a strange alphabet wasn’t such a big thing, it even could be handy because you never knew when you could use a language nobody else really understood, especially at home, Muggles didn’t knew runes, until today she herself even hadn’t heard about it!
Uruz? Had she been right and was that a U letter!? Cool! Maybe she was going to get good at it, she hoped it because she started to like this class, what was strange because she had thought about it as boring at first, boring AND difficult! Quick she made a few more notes to make sure that she wasn’t forgetting anything before really looking at the rune before her on her own desk. Hmm, this one looked interesting, but she absolutely had no idea how it was called and what meaning it had.
So, she flipped her textbook open and searched for the rune she saw. “Jera” she muttered softly to herself and she saw really a lot information in her textbook! good harvest, orbits, cycles, progress, biorhythms, right effort… She quick noted all those things down, just to make sure that she had a few answers and because they all seemed to important to the first year Slytherin, although she wasn’t sure about the meaning of all those things, but… That was something she needed to find out another time!
While being done with writhing she suddenly raised her hand, deciding that she really wanted to know the answer to her silent question. “Professor, I’m wondering… Is this Rune alphabet also uses by Muggles or is it only known in the wizarding world?”
Well he was hoping they would just go right into his mini activity. But well not like he would just ignore questions. Poor Professor he would be."Muggles know about Eldar Furthak. It just they dont know about the magical properties associated and well actually using them magically. That answer your question?" If she had anymore he would be more than welcome to answer them.

Well if word around the staffroom was right and well Viktor did not know. Mr. Bellaire did need some aid in his magic since he apparently did not like using it at all.
"You can always use more aid in your magic. Mr. Bellaire. That goes for me and everyone as well Though nothing really to say on the other meanings of the rune."
Really it was just at random. He had no idea the kid would sit in that seat. Seemed like everyone understood what he wanted them to do besides whatever was going on with the earthquake or whatever was going on. "Alright seems like most of you are done with this little exercise. Excellent work everyone. Now though it might not be obvious since each of you got one rune individually. But some runes share some similarities with another. There is multiple runes that can heal like Ms. Skeeter said. But one might be better considering the circumstance. Now we will be covering today which is not in your textbook surprisingly is Galdrs. Which are basically incantations for runes. Each rune has its own Galdr. For Example Ehwaz which looks like this"
"Its galdr would be"
Viktor flick again and erased everything on the boarn. Now he wrote something new.

I will be giving you a list of all the remaining galdrs next class. Now what is a good practical use for a gadr besides blowing things up and the one i just mentioned. If you dont know. This should help them in the future blow things up in the future and much more. Which he will probably let them do. Once he worked out safety and everything.

Yep that had to be it... No earthquakes here.
Still a flustered blushing mess over her own rune, Paige nearly missed Nat's whisper and really only caught the tail end of it - the fake rune part*
"Hmmmmm?" she murmured, leaning over a bit to see what exactly the Slytherin was talking about. "Your rune you mean?" She even pointed for clarification, peering a little bit closer at it and smiling. "I can't remember which one that is...but I DO know that isn't fake..." she nodded, flipping through her textbook a bit and glancing up at the board to try and see which aett to work with.

The desk shaking did not go unnoticed, particularly when people were calling it an earthquake. Could...nonplottable structures be impacted by those? Something she wanted to ask...but since the professor seemed completely unfazed by that happening she dropped it and her gaze instead went up to the board and the professor as he spoke.
"Psst, Nat," she whispered, giving the girl a nudge. "See?" There it was, the exact same rune as the one on her desk. Not fake.
As for practical uses...well...Paige had covered what all she knew earlier, the professor himself even referring to her and causing her cheeks to flush slightly, with regards to healing runes and using galdr to accomplish this...so her hand remained down and eyes cast on her textbook.

Daxton had not initially been aware that he had actually stepped into an Ancient Runes class focused solely on the basics. At least, that was what it seemed to be so far. Identifying the runes and their meanings was quite a juvenile exercise, and the resulting information was really not even worth the paper that would be wasted in writing down any conclusions.
Because of this, Daxton remained resolutely silent, resolving to not retrieve his notebook unless they moved onto a more interesting, or at least a more useful, topic. Surely there was something that could be taught that could not be learned from the textbook.
Sat quietly at his desk, Daxton continued to trace his finger over the Hagalaz rune that was engraved there, ruminating on the rune itself. Removing unwanted influences, breaking destructive patterns, that was what the rune was for in terms of its magical uses. It was strange, really, and highly suspicious, that Daxton should sit at the desk that housed this rune. Was he himself not often considered an unwanted influence? and was he himself not one walking destructive pattern? Perhaps this Sokolov guy already knew too much about Daxton, perhaps this had been planned.
Not to mention the fact that, according to the divinatory meanings, this rune in particular also referred to change, and loss... destruction.
For a split second, Daxton's eyes flicked up and he looked, very briefly, in the direction of Aslan Evans.
And then away again, because there seemed to be some sort of ordeal (another divinatory meaning of Hagalaz) occurring with some of the other students. Or, at least, there was something occurring that was making them think there was some sort of ordeal. An earthquake, apparently. Daxton continued to watch them until the professor - who himself seemed quite unconcerned - spoke up again.
To talk about galdrs. Which were in the textbook, and which Daxton knew because he had read through the thing on more than one occasion. But, regardless of whether or not they were in there, they were boring and also meant very little to Daxton, who was, of course, not much of a talker or a galdr chanter.
Daxton gave a very deliberate and very obvious sigh. Ancient Runes could be so interesting, and he himself had quite an invested interest, but this was just too much. Or, rather, it simply was not enough. With his brain thoroughly under-stimulated, Daxton simply reverted back to leaning on his desk, head propped in hand, and stared directly at the professor through intense blue eyes, wearing an expression so impassive that it was impossible for the average onlooker to discern what he might have been thinking.

He'd heard that before, many times and didn't make a fuss. Why? The Professor was new and didn't know any better.
"I don't need help with my magic Professor. I don't plan to be using it much." His expression was nothing if not serious but it was also very matter of fact and nonchalant. In time this one would learn too, then there would be no more rubbish talk about 'trying' and 'only needing some practice' and 'a little help goes a long way'. No thank you. He'd heard it all and wasn't interested.
"Considering these tend to be used to enhance magic and I don't intend to use that, I don't think I can find any applicability for these." Which was a shame. He didn't like learning things that would prove to be of little use to him in the long run.
Proper shame that was.

Okay, first and foremost.....
Liv raised her hand. "I'm not hoping to blow anything up, Professor." That was worth noting, right? Just in case he was curious. Yep, she was a Gryffindor and very much a daredevil, but even she had limits! Healing, though. That was something she could get behind...
With a beaming smile, the blonde went back to flipping through her textbook, mainly to be doing something with her hands. After a few moments of doing this, however, she switched to doodling in the margins of her notes. The thing about Olivia, it was a requirement really, was that she had to stay stimulated and properly engaged or she completely lost interest. It was the ADHD. There was a very specific method of learning new material for her.
Answering questions wouldn't be enough.
Oh! A STRAY THOUGHT ... "Can they help with achy muscles?" He'd mentions healing, after all ...

Cornelius was a fast learner, you see. So when he noticed the rune carved on his desk, the boy learned that carving things on desks was an okay thing to do. So if he happened to do it, and happened to upset a professor, he'd simply refer them back to the Ancient Runes Prof.
Easy peasy.
Now. For the rune carved in his desk. It looked like an 'F' with the two little sticks turned upwards. Fehu. He knew this one. It was one of his mum's favorite runes.
"
SPOILER!!: Rune Notes
FEHU
- good health
- wealth (spiritual and financial riches)
- good fortune
Cornelius shrugged. It probably meant something. The Fates giving him a sign or something, but his curly head was pretty thick that he wouldn't notice it even if it slapped him in the face.
He WOULD probably notice if his desk shook, though. Which it didn't. He studied Noelle's and Azura's desks. No shaking. How about Kat's? Nope. Then he didn't care.
They were moving on to Galdr. The boy rubbed the back of his neck. This wasn't his favorite part. His onion-smelling tutor used to reprimand him because he wouldn't mention it right or he'd forget a piece of the enchantment.
"Galdr," he said, raising his hand, "can make little fire into big fire when using Kenaz's galdr." He preferred big fire.

And.... it happened. Charlotte's attention, it wandered.
Boom.
Gone.
She knew all the galdrar ok? What was FAR more exciting than that was invoking the runes. WAAAY more fun. Speaking of, why not invoke the one of the galdrar on her desk right now? THAT would be fun! Yeah! While people were answering and the professor was talking and all that, Char got her wand out and used it to prick her finger, then watched her fingertip as the tiniest bit of blood began to well up. Yup.
Under her breath she murmured the galdr for kenaz, as she ran her fingertip along its carved length, letting the blood fill the groove.

And.... the desk burst into flames. Charlotte scooted back in a hurry but soon realised the flames weren't burning anything, but STILL. FLAAAAAMES. FIRE.
WAY more exciting than the textbook, professor!!!!

Wait! There was FIRE! Char had made fire happen, but it seemed to be safe? flames. It wasn't out of control or anything. It was settled strictly on the desk ...
.... but she needed to get a better look, INSTANTLY reengaged and curious.
"How did you do that?" She asked, dancing over to her friend's desk.

RIGHT? Charlotte looked over at that Cornelius boy, eyes shining. YUP. It WAS fire. Though she had no plans to make it bigger.... or... you know, burny. Not that she'd actually thought too much about that when she'd done it, it had just worked out that way.

Char much preferred spellwork classes for this reason, and the hands on things like herbology and creatures. But RUNES COULD BE HANDS ON.

She'd.....stuck BLOOD on it?!
As if to check the validity of this statement, the blonde moved her face closer to the flames, trying to discern if there was actually blood powering up the rune.
"I have Othola." The mispronunciation was an accident as Liv had never heard the rune's name spoken aloud, but her mind was already racing with glorious possibility! Would something similar work with the one carved into her own desk?! Though, she did remember the professor saying that different runes did different things.
What would HERS do?!?!
....and since Char had muttered that bit about being bored, Liv forced her own voice to drop in tone. "Show me how?" That would help her not be bored, surely!

"I don't know if we could do anything very fun with that one." She said apologetically. "But I can show you later if we don't get to do stuff in class for sure!"
And then it suddenly occurred to her that there was in fact a professor in this class and MAYBE he would get mad because, yo, her desk, it was on fire.
She peeked over the non-burning flames at the professor.

What are the use of... galdrs?
Uh... absolutely no idea, to be honest. The second year just staaaared and looked at everyone around. How did THEY know about those stuff? Blinking at the fire that had just appeared, Vivian opened her mouth... and then immediately closed it. She stared at the Professor. Whaaaa?
But, y'know, her mum always encouraged her to try. So Vivian raised her hand. "Everything," she said, and pretending to make star!sparkle!dazzle!glitter actions with her hands. Just for the aesthetic effect, of course.
Hopefully that made up for her joke of an answer. LOL.

At first Tak wasn't even sure if he had a rune on his desk. It looked relatively blank other than a slightly jagged vertical line. It took a few flips through his textbook before he realized that the line in question was a rune.
Isa.
The rune of ice.
Taking out his special self writing quill Tak quickly mumbled under his breath and the quill sprains to life.
SPOILER!!: Tak's notes
Personal Rune - Isa
-run of inactivity, withdrawal, patience,
-used to stop a progress or represent original form
He was just about to write more when the Professor started speaking again. Everything he was saying was making sense- until he flicked he wand and something new appeared on the board.
His lip twitched just slightly before quickly settling into a frown.
He didn't want to do this anymore.
Sinking into his seat he began doodling on the corner of his notebook as people answered the question until-
Fire????
Tak glances back at the desk that was engulfed in flames and his attention www quickly drawn to blonde girl and Liv?? And another curly haired boy.
It seemed like this was normal?? Or something. And Tak was about to turn away from the burning desk which someone ELSE could put out under the blonde did something that rubbed him the wrong way.
The girl was correcting Liv on how to pronounce the rune. Quietly he stood up and turned to the girl.
"Why are you worrying about correcting her when you just set a desk on fire? Just put it out and don't act like you know everything. "

Genny's face turned red, not from embarrassment but from the burst of feelings bubbling inside her; people called it anger. She bit her tongue because she didn't want to say anything and regret it.
Unable to hold it in any longer, Genny started stomping towards the door. "This is a useless lesson anyway." She was going to leave and she was going to SLAM the door on her way out.

Owen was a fairly good student during classes. He listened attentively, and took notes every now and then just like what he was doing now. They were talking about Galdrs now. The Ehwaz one in particular. Apparently it was used for blowing things up. Owen didn't really know any other uses for it so she he began to search for the Ehwaz entry on his book when he noticed that his seatmate was chanting...things...and saw in his peripheral vision that her desk had burst into flames.
WHOA...!
What the heck... Um, Professor...
Was he supposed to say or do something? All Owen could really do now was move away and blink at Charlotte, her burning desk, and at another blonde girl who sounded like she wanted to burn some things too. Chocolates, these blondes were bad news.
Awww *snuggles Genny* also, notice of firestarter!Char and galdrs

Although now she was stuck in this class and there was no way of running out without alerting the professor and probably getting scolded- and while she didn't mind some scolding, she didn't want it to happen this early in the year. Wait, why was Brooklyn's desk in front of her shaking? She frowned... but also ceased the opportunity, "Brooklyn's desk is shaking! We must alert someone!" She jumped from her seat and posed bravely next to the older girl. This way she could 1) play the hero with the pretty girl 2) escape this lesson 3) have a fun story to tell Sam.
Once she’d written down the basic magical uses for the rune on her desk, Brooklyn had gone back to reading. Obviously they weren’t continuing the lesson as of yet, and Professor Sokolov could hardly expect her to just sit there staring off into space while she waited for everyone else to finish identifying the runes on their desks. Besides, she wasn’t bothering anyone just sitting there reading, and if he felt like arguing she’d just come up with some way that runes were connected to Westeros. There had to be something…
Instead, it appeared like someone had felt the need to hex her desk, or at least it had started shaking. She just shifted her chair back slightly and ignored it, even as she’d noticed Hady’s suddenly start acting the same way. It wasn’t bothering her, or she wasn’t going to deal with it. Not until she’d suddenly heard her name being called out and found the Gryffindor girl from the train standing next to her like she thought she’d be able to help. It was just a shaking desk, and it was Hogwarts, but then obviously the girl expected people to react differently.
She’d glanced over as the girl started storming out. The desk had stopped shaking anyhow, and the lesson had finally continued. Galdrs. Meh. The one the professor recited sounded like a chant in gibberish and nothing had even happened to give a reason for said chant. She’d nearly gone back to reading, until a fire suddenly took her notice. A fire that used to be Charlotte Kettleburn’s desk, which at least proved something. Runes weren’t only theory. She still wasn’t about to put in work that wasn’t necessary, but she was interested in how the professor would react to said fire.

Attention back to the professor, Jace took down more notes on his parchment and processed everything the man had said. Multi-tasking, yes? So...how else can they use the galdrs aside from what Sokolov mentioned? Jace’s hand was about to be raised when fire happened. The hand was retracted back and instinctively inched away from his desk. The flame didn’t seem to spread, but...it could still burn, yes? What did the Gryffindor get anyway? Was it Kennaz or Sowilo? Hopefully it wasn’t the latter because he’d be ready to head for the exit.
Speaking of exiting, Jace’s attention went to another girl who stomped her way towards the door. What is even going on? Was...walking out on a professor allowed? Jace blinked, and the next moment...another kid whom he wanted to be friends with because of his Japanese name (Tak), stood and started to...make a scene.
Jace lowered himself in his seat, wanting to disappear right then and there. He wanted to learn from this class and not witness a fight. Quietly, he scribbled down his answer on his parchment, and pretended to be busy.
Can he just go back to Mahou next term?

This was the reason that Trixie had chosen the seat behind Charlotte. She knew that something eventful would happen. Of course she hadn't been expecting a desk to go up in flames but hey she wasn't going to complain because it was rather exciting.
And it also meant that she could stop attempting the Galdr on her Jera Rune because really she wasn't going to produce anything half as exciting as what the fourth year in front of her just did.
SPOILER!!: Tak

Trixe was just about to cheer on Char when she heard a voice from behind her and she turned in her seat and frowned at the Slytherin boy. "Yo. Dude, why don't you just chill out, yeah?" Nobody was being hurt by what had happened.

What was happening? Carl looked up as he heard some desks shaking. Why would somebody do that... oh, they were not doing it on purpose. It was probably invisible Peeves pulling a prank or something.
SPOILER!!: Miranda!

Just as he was about to turn his attention back to the lesson, the Hufflepuff saw Miranda beside him, looking a bit confused. He could not blame her, this class was difficult for him too and he was a big Third Year. "Miranda? You okay? If you are stuck, I can try to help!" He said.
As Professor Sokolov spoke, Carl looked up at the board again. Galdrs. He had no idea what those are, probably because as the man said, they were not in the textbooks. The Galdr for Ehwaz really did look funny! So Galdrs were incantations for runes. He thought he understood.
He thought hard about a possible use, until... a Gryffindor's desk burst into flames. He jumped, then stared at the burning desk. Runes were indeed cool! Pretending not to see the small drama happening about putting the fire out, he raised his hand. "Does it bring success?" He said. After all, the rune carved into his desk, Fehu, was about prosperity and the like.

Harriet was feeling more confident about this class now. She kind of knew what was going on. Or at least she did when she was reading the text book. So that was helping her a little. She just needed to concentrate. It was kind of bad really, because she did sometimes feel a little distracted. But she was trying her hardest to listen. She was thinking about an answer for question, when something did distract her.
Like a desk on fire.
That girl's desk was on fire.
The second year blinked as she looked around. The desk was on fire. There was a fire in the room. Didn't people think that was a bad thing. Hattie just blinked, very distracted from any answers that were in her head.
Well then. Things had just got a bit interesting.
