A sign encouraging you to knock before entering is attached to the wooden door of Professor Tiara Tanner's office. Once you have received permission to enter, you will notice a sparsely decorated office. A clean, organized desk will meet your view, with three rickety chairs for visitors. Besides the desk and chairs, a small bookshelf is the only other piece of furniture to be found in the room, and titles such as Flying with the Cannons, Quidditch Through the Ages, Numerology and Grammatica, or Sound Teaching Principles in an Unsound World are shelved next to a broomstick servicing kit. Leaning against the wall nearby is a Firebolt in pristine condition. The only decoration to speak of on the walls is a moving photograph of the professor herself with her husband, Jason, in front of the pyramids in Giza.
If you wish to speak with Professor Tanner, she would be more than happy to see you. Whether you have an academic, social, or flying problem, Tiara is known for her sound advice and calm demeanor.
With all the activity around her being out of uniform at the opening feast, Hadley never noticed the look of disapproval or the tut that Professor Tanner gave her for wearing the shirt. She was still as clueless that Tanner had been offended now as she was at the feast.
So, Hadley's purpose here was not to smooth things over, although she might if she knew there was anything to smooth over. Nope, there was only one thing on her mind right now. Charlie, the Hogwarts broom that Haddie met last year and bonded with greatly. She was hoping for permission to practice her broom skills with him.
She knocked on the door and stood back, waiting and hoping Professor Tanner was in.

As it so happened, Professor Tanner was not, in fact, in. But she did arrive at the end of the corridor shortly after she had seen Hadley turn the corner to go down it as well. "Miss Denaker!" she called, still walking. "Are you waiting for me?" She was standing in front of the office door, after all.
"If so, please do come in," she requested, reaching the door. With several different wand movements, her office unlocked itself and the door swung open. The woman stepped inside ahead of the girl and took a seat in the chair behind the desk.

Hadley followed Professor Tanner into her office an took a seat. "Hey, did you have a nice summer, Professor?" Manners and all. The office looked just like it did last year and was just as cozy. But Hadley was still on a mission.
"How's Charlie?" Poor broom probably hated being locked away in that broom shed all summer. Another thing she and the broom had in common. "Would it be okay if I took him out and practiced flying occasionally this year?" Or frequently. Probably frequently. Pleeeaaasssseeee, Professor!

Tiara settled in to her chair and the girl followed behind her. "Oh yes, it was quite relaxing! A bit of extra work involved with a project with Mister Kitridge, but it was good work." And now the trip was almost here!
Ah, here was the reason for her visit. Somehow she was not surprised - at all. "Charlie was just fine last I checked," which was more than she could say for the person who had been riding him. She'd ended up in the hospital wing. "Of course, it is more than alright! The practice pitch is open after lessons every day."
And if Tiara knew the girl at all, then she was expecting her to be a frequent flyer.

Being a Second Year was pretty cool. Not being one of the youngest at school was awesome, and he had Firsties he could watch out for. However, there was one thing that had been bugging him since last year. He had not learned how to fly and now, he did not have Flying classes anymore. If there was one thing Carl could not let go, it was his dream to soaaar through the air.
The Hufflepuff was not sure what he expected from Professor Tanner. Private lessons? No, that would be too much. Maybe just advice on how he could improve. Yeah, that would be nice. He knew that the Professor was wise and calm and that he trusted her.
After knocking on the door, Carl waited in the corridor patiently.
Hadley grinned, practically bouncing in her seat. "Thank you, Professor Tanner!" She was going to ride Charlie everyday after classes. Everyday! "That's all I really came in to ask, Professor. Thanks again." She stood up and was at the door when she paused. "Do you think they'll ever bring Quidditch back?" She'd get on a summer team hopefully. But that was only for a few months. She was hoping for more frequent chances to play than that.

Oh, that was it? Short visit, then! "Hmm.. why am I not surprised?" she said playfully. And she was about to tell her to come back whenever she wanted, but then apparently she was already doing just that. Ah, that. Tiara suppressed a sigh. "I am really not certain, dear. Sorry I cannot be more upbeat for you." She was about to say more, but then--

Just as she finished her response to Hadley, a knock was heard on the door. "Just a moment, please!" she called.

So he did so patiently.
Once her first visitor had left, she beckoned to the next one. "Alright, come on in!" she called. Who could it be? Another student, or perhaps a colleague this time?

Smiling at the visitor that left, Carl went into Professor Tanner's office as told. "Good morning, Professor Tanner! How are you?" He said, standing in front of the desk. The office was clean and organized, quite representing its inhabitant's character, he thought.
Despite his eagerness to start talking about flying, the Second Year decided to have a small chat with the Professor first. "Is that Egypt?" He asked, pointing at the moving photograph on the wall.

"Mister Leonard, do come in!" she said with a warm smile once she saw who it was. "It is a good morning, indeed! Beautiful weather outside, and good company inside." First Hadley, and now him.
She noticed his gaze land on her picture. "Quite correct. That was only a few years ago, in fact." Her own eyes went to the picture now. "That is my husband and I shortly after our marriage." They had gone so she could recover from the magical aging epidemic at Hogwarts, and the warm climate agreed with her. "Try to make it there someday if you can. It was magnificent to behold!"
