The house elves have been hard at work, leaving the Great Hall spotless, the tables set with pristine silverware, and delicious smells floating up from the kitchen. Your stomach might be growling, but it isn't quite time to eat yet.
Hopefully, the new Headmaster will make an appearance before you chew your way through your House table. Has anyone seen him yet?

Azura slowly moved into the great hall and she looked around for a moment.. She was back.. And yet so much has changed since she had last seen these tables.. Last term she was worried about Cyprian and Jace.. Now..
She sighed as she sunk into a seat at the table and she sighed softly as she looked around.. She really didn't feel like eating at all.. The mere thought was making her rather nauseous.. The purple eyed girl was turning slightly green as she bit her lip..
And this year was already starting off to a great start. Couldn't you just tell? Her Mom and sister forgot to put her school clothes and robes they bought her into her trunk, which meant not only was Hadley out of uniform, she was still wearing the shirt she wore on the train.
On what was essentially House pride night.
There she was, at the Ravenclaw House table, wearing red and gold...and that nice legible phrase...
This was gonna go over well with Kitridge and the Prefects. She'd already gotten that stern look and Oh, Haddie, what am I going to do with you? from Freckles, so at least that was out of the way.
Also, could they start eating already? Real food. Not candy or junk, real food. Did they really have to wait for the speech?
Brady was bored over at his house table mostly because at that moment there was no one there. The second year was pretty sure that between the time he walked from the Hufflepuff table all the way over here to the Ravenclaw table that there would be more people at his house table by time he gets back.
The brunette walked over to the Ravenclaw table in hopes of seeing Azura. He was still worried about after their little talk on the train ride here. He just wanted to make sure that she really was okay. The few friends that he had he really did care about. Brady looked around the table and spotted two girls there. He saw Azura first. He walked over to here with a big smile on his face. "Hey!" The Scottish boy said to her. He took a seat next to here and noticed a girl he didn't know (Haddie). "Hey." He turned towards the girl and greeted her.

Azura looked up as she heard a familiar voice and a slight smile moved over her face as she saw Brady! She felt a slight sigh of relief as she saw him and he sat down next to her. "Hey Brady!" She said softly.
She was really glad he was here for only he and Jace knew her secret..
She turned as well as he said hello to Haddie and she waved at her dormate and she grinned at her shirt.. She liked it! "Hiya Haddie.. I like your shirt. " She said in a sincere voice as she looked over at the other girl.
Finally, after what seemed like years, the long train ride was over and Clara found herself in the Great Hall. She quickly walked over to the Ravenclaw table and found a few other students already chatting and having conversations and the rest of them looking rather pre-occupied.
Not wanting to join either group, she opted for the lone seat at the very end of the table. It wasn't the liveliest of places at the moment, but surely more students would come eventually. Surely, there were more on their way. And in the end, everyone got a feast, right? So it didn't matter too much after all.
Quietly settling in, Clara began to look around at the other House Tables, which seemed to be equally filled. It really took her back to her Sorting during her 1st year. Her father and mother were both Hufflepuffs in their time at Hogwarts, and were slightly shocked, but pleased nonetheless, when Clara turned out to be a Ravenclaw. Smiling slightly as she recalled the past, she began tracing circles on the table with her right hand to pass the time.

Absently rolled her lip up and pinning Kira, her black silver and gold wand, under her nose, it took Hadley Denaker too long to realize people were talking to her. She let the wand fall into her hand, and then slipped into her pocket. "Oh, uh, hey..." A Hufflepuff boy she recognized from last year, but didn't know. Nor could she remember his name. Honestly, his presence was a bit of surprise. She hadn't expected kids from the other tables to come over yet. "I'm Hadley," she said, offering her hand, not to shake but to high five. Because that's how kids should greet each other, not the shaking hands frumpy adult way.
Another voice drew her attention. Ah, she knew this kid well. She just never really noticed how short Azzy was last year. Odd. "Hey Az!" That was it. No how was your summer, because only prompt the midget to ask Hads the same question. And She didn't talk about it. Hadley glanced down at her shirt and smirked. "Thanks. I made it myself." Another girl sat down, one that Hadley recognized, given they were in the same house, but honestly didn't know all that well. What was her name? Claire...? Clara! "Hey Clara!" She returned her attention to Azzy and the boy. "I hope Moxxy keeps the speech short so we can get the food faster."
The Scottish boy gave Azura a big grin. "How are you feeling?" He asked. He was still very concerned about her. "Are you feeling better?" If not he could totally hug her again. He can give her all the hugs she wanted not matter what.
Brady looked from Azura to the other Ravenclaw girl. High fiving? He could do that! Bradson high fived her back. "Nice to meet you Haddie." Brady smiled at her. "I'm Brady Somerhalder." a.k.a the boy that almost got eaten by the hag last term.

Hadley Denaker probably did not realize how grateful Azura was that she did not ask about her summer. For the first time that night, Azura didn't have to lie and say that it was okay.. or that she had some weird family stuff going on..
Thank you Haddie." She gave the girl the smallest of smiles.. for really it was all the broken hearted child could muster.."Happy to be back?" She asked her, that was a safe question before she nodded as she mentioned her shirt.. "Well, it's super cool!" Why would Azura care that it was from a different house? Sure.. Az loved her house, but she knew not all people felt that way.
She turned grateful eyes to Brady as he smiled at her.. and she almost wanted to hug him right then and there for all of his concern.. Really.. It was almost too much to ask for.. "I'm feeling a bit better?" She said softly, as she looked up at him with a small shrug.. "I.. just kind of want to go to bed.. The idea of food.." She bit her lip and shook her head..

Abby entered the great hall and made her way over to her house table and took a seat she knew she shouldnt be here because of what happened during the summer but it was her last year she wasnt going to spend it locked away at st.mungos so she was determined to go out with a bang and heck she was happy to be back

Sabbath had lost sight of both Hope and Nells in the crush after alighting from the train and, not able to find them, had found himself in deep conversation with a Ravenclaw girl he’d never met before. Chatting with her was easy and he’d arrived at the castle in what seemed next to no time. He promised to catch up with his new friend later, stowed his belongings quickly and headed to the great hall in preparation for the feast.
Entering the hall, he wandered along the Ravenclaw table, smiling at some familiar faces, before spotting a pretty girl (Clara) who he did not recall seeing before around Ravenclaw Tower. She stood out in her quiet reverie at the far end of the table with the hub-bub of voices percolating around her. Intrigued, Sabbath approached her, leaning into her line of vision and breaking a dimpled smile. "Hola, I saw you sitting here alone. Do you mind if I join you?" he said to her in his accented English, gesturing to the seat beside her.
Kitty shivered with excitement and a little nervousness as she followed the others into the Great Hall and towards the Ravenclaw table. She was super excited to be back at Hogwarts at last - back with all her friends, but at the same time nervous about what might happen at the feast. Last year a food fight had broken out and Professor Flamsteed had doused everyone in water, abruptly ending the feast and forcing everyone to go back to their dormitories soaking wet. And at the end of term feast last year they had all been splattered with glue and feathers by Miffy and Peeves. Both times Kitty's makeup had been completely ruined.
Maybe that was why Kitty kept looking up nervously, looking for signs of Miffy and Peeves. She was wearing as much makeup as last time (which consisted of pale dye, dark eyeliner, and black lipstick) and her nails were twice as long as they had been last year - and she wasn't letting nay dumb ghost ruin it this time!
She waved at her friends Sabbath and Haddie before going to sit down next to Azura. "Hey Azura, I've missed you. How was your summer?"

Food just did not sound good at ALL!
The boy's name sounded vaguely familiar. Wait, wasn't he the one that...Oh. Yeah, yeah he was.
All of that played out across Haddie's face, but she didn't say it outloud. He had earned a lot of points with her for high fiving her back, so she wasn't about to point out the thing he probably wanted to forget. "Nice to meet you too, Braids. How's Hufflepuff treating you?" She would be happy being in Hufflepuff too, especially with Professor Myers as Head of House. The man was practically her idol.
A lot of emotions washed over Hadley's face at Azura's question. Most noticeable of which was relief. Relief to be back and that summer was not a topic. "More than you know." Just being out of her house right now really was enough. But she was also thrilled to be back when just a few months ago, she was sure she'd be in muggle school right now. "How about you? Happy to be back?"
Haddie returned Kitty's wave. Was it just her or did Kitty look pretty skittish at the moment?

Katherine had had a VERY calm train ride for a change, thank you very much. How hadn't she thought of a locking spell before? Once she had locked HER compartment door, no one tried to come in and she had the whole place to herself. She even got to lie down. Brilliant idea, it was.
And now, she had to go through a meaningless feast...
She entered the Great Hall and briefly surveyed the area in case someone decided to start another food fight or tried to be funny in general. Everything seemed to be in order though, so she proceeded to her table without making eye contact and sat down at the end of it. In case of emergency, she would be able to leave. She didn't even glance at who was there (and therefore completely missed Haddie), but turned her head towards the Sorting.
Not that she cared, but she did hope that this year's lot was good.

Returning to the Ravenclaw table after her misadventure up at the staff dais, Hadley didn't sit down in the spot she had been sitting before. Someone had shown up that she wanted to say hi too. Good ol' Mossy.
Maybe it was that she actually sort of missed Mossy with the others. Or maybe she was just out to get some cathartic fun after everything that just happened, she wasn't entirely sure. But, Hads made her way down the length of the Ravenclaw table and sat down directly next to her dorm mate.
"So..." she said, partially to get the girl's attention. "Mossy, tell me. On a scale of one to ten, how disappointed are you that I'm back?"

Rooney had wanted to be first into the carriages, first into the castle...but Pomegranate had had other ideas and his cat had taken a run through the train after another cat. And Rooney had needed to GIVE the cat his vitamins. So he'd had to run after him and then catch the very last carriage over to the castle. He may not have messed up at the beginning of his journey to school, but he definitely had messed up mega big time now. Speed walking into the Great Hall, Roo checked out the Gryffindor table for his..well for his Char and his Liv..neither being his girlfriend and neither being anything else. And was greeted with...his baby sister being sorted there. Oh, Brinlee..
Was he worried about Char and Liv taking her under their wings? Yes. Did he think Brin could handle it? That was a bigger yes. He gave the newly sorted a wave, and winked in Miss Charlotte's direction. That was cool. He was sO COOL AND HE HAD ALMOST GOT THE GIRL.
He came to his own table, setting himself down at a seat without doing many introductions, because...well wasn't it rude to talk over the sorting happening? It was rude to him. Besides, people would find out who he was later. If they didn't know already. He could bet someone would see his badge and call attention to it, but he was hoping that Miss Penelope would get here by then. His seat meant that he was able to catch conversations and witness SOMEONE go up to the staff table. Did people not know the definition of rude? Did people not understand that? "Miss Denaker.." Roo's voice was soft, almost like he was too scared to say what he wanted to. But he raised it again when he addressed the other Ravenclaw from a standing point. "Miss Haddie, put my robes on. Please?" He was already removing his Prefect badge and attaching it to his jumper.
"I'm sure we can find you a way to feel Gryffindor later." He'd ask Liv and Char for Gryffindor things, maybe. Score Haddie an in to their common room if he could. Something that would get her to ACTUALLY wear the uniform she needed to. OR the colours of her house.
No way was this girl a Ravenclaw at heart.
She was a prime example of biting off your nose to spite your face.

So, indeed, so Haddie hadn't actually left the school. So, she was wearing a stupid shirt. So, she came here to talk to Katherine.
The more Ravenclaw one of these two girls focused the icy blue eyes on the other and looked at her with the same cold and cool look she had taken since the end of the last term.
Oooooooh, Haddie thought that she cared? The girl snorted a little. No, she was done caring about collective house effort. Now, there was only one thing she wanted: her and only her own success. In fact, she wanted the others to fail so that she could shine... and Haddie was one of the sure-failures. Only after proving herself to every single professor did Katherine want a house cup glory - and only if she was the biggest contributor.
So, to answer to the question, she lazily said "An A." Meaning, she didn't care, and not caring wasn't on the scale Haddie provided, so Katherine offered a whole different one. The question was, would Haddie be able to understand this?
But anyway, she didn't have to think much, because Loo-ney came to ...give his robes to Haddie. Well, of course. He must have felt embarrassed for the girl by himself - if Katherine was a little bit better person, she would pity her too. Though... was that a badge? She frowned only a little until she made sure it indeed was. She wondered what happened to Thornton, but then it'd be rude to ask that, so she said "Congratulations, Bronwyn." She even smiled. So, from now on, she couldn't call him Looney, even in her mind, in case it did escape her mouth.

What put him forward to get the badge..?
That signature Denaker defiance set in instantly. Her jaw set, ready to steadfastly deny all attempts to be put into anyone's robes but her own. Why should she hide the fact she wasn't truly a Ravenclaw? She knew it. Mossy knew it. Rooney knew it. So why did she need to play games and hide it? No, she was not going to put on Mr. Prefect's robes. Congrats on that, by the way.
But then, as quickly as the defiance set in, it melted away again, like water in sieve. The girl, in some part and some way, broke over the summer. Funny thing; the moment you realize you're broken. Not an easy moment either, but she did a decent job at hiding the glistening in her eyes. Mostly by closing them. Hadley nodded and stood up as she took the offered robes and slipped them on. They weren't the best fit as Roo was 3 inches taller than her, at least, and a different body type altogether, but they weren't falling off either.
"Congrats," she said, nodding to the badge as she sat back down. What happened to Thornton though?
And back to Mossy. An A? Hadley gave the other girl a slightly quizzical look, and while she didn't quite grasp the meaning of the answer, the look had more to do with Mossy herself than it did the answer. Mossy wasn't Mossy anymore. It was almost like the girl was an empty shell of herself or something. Bland and lifeless. A robot programmed to be Mossy, but not. Where was that spark she'd seen in the girl last year?
This wouldn't do. "Don't worry, Moss." Hadley patted the girl's shoulder reassuringly. "Lots of people misplace their personality. I'll help you find it though. You can count on me." A big reassuring grin helped drive home the point.
Abby sighed she was wanting to go to her dorm and hide her head was killing her and she just wanted to hide because she was not up for conversations with anyone without snapping at them
At the sound of a sigh, Kitty turned and noticed Abby sitting by herself nearby. She looked very unhappy. This was her final year at Hogwarts, wasn't it? Kitty felt a pang of sadness as she remembered when Abby told her about how many of her friends had graduated from Hogwarts."Hello Abby," said Kitty, leaning across the table to talk tothe older student. "How was your summer?"
The second year badger looked over at Haddie. What was this Braids thing? "Braids?" He was confused? Was this some sort of new nickname? He really didn't mind but no one had ever called his braids before."Hufflepuff is pretty good and tons of fun." He smiled with a nod. Professor Paul was his favorite ever! "How's Ravenclaw treading you?" He was curious because he never really asked Azura what being in Ravenclaw was really like. The brunette turned his head back towards Azura.
Bradson gave Azura a warm smile. "I'm always here if you need to talk or if you need a hug." He really felt the need to point that out to her. He just wanted her to know that he was here no matter what. Hew as worried about her because he knew what she was going through. The Scottish boy shook his head. "You really should eat once they bring the food out." He knew that she would need food at some point. "You don't even have to eat a lot just a little bit of food is all." The second year put his hand on top on hers.

Clara was losing herself in all the chatter, for the Great Hall seemed to be getting louder by the second. She was trying hard not to focus on a single conversation, not only because she didn't really care what anyone was talking about, but because it seemed rude to eavesdrop. A voice knocked her out of this little mind bubble, but she was sure it meant nothing.
The voice called out again, and Clara swore that someone was saying her name. She turned to face the crowds at the Ravenclaw table and indeed, someone was trying to get her attention. So she wasn't just imagining things. Hadley (hopefully this was Hadley, or else this would be incredibly awkward) was a 2nd year that Clara hadn't really noticed all that much. Sure, she had been in the same House for a year, so they were on a name basis with each other, but, well...that was about it.
She noticed that Hadley was immersed in a conversation with some of her friends, but Clara was happy about the acknowledgement nonetheless. She waved back at Hadley, shouting, "Hey, Hadley! Hope you enjoyed your vacation!"

After the quick interaction with Hadley, Clara felt proud of herself for not becoming (completely) clueless when it came to social cues. It had been one of her biggest weaknesses as a child, not being able to even talk to others without having a mental breakdown. It was such a relief when she starting working on that. Sighing about what just happened, Clara began to mentally prepare herself for the coming year, thinking of the classes, the professors...but mostly the upcoming feast, which was making her stomach grumble noisily.
Suddenly, interrupting the hunger rumblings, Clara noticed a boy walking slowly towards her. She did not recognize him as easily as she recognized Hadley. Somehow his face looked slightly familiar, as if she had spotted him in the halls one time. Or it could have been someone else, perhaps. The boy was getting closer and Clara looked around for another face he might have been aiming for, but all the other students were engrossed in conversation. So yes, the boy was indeed walking up to her.
The boy asked if he could sit with her. He sounded like a nice person, judging by the tone of his speech. Clara let about a millisecond go by, trying not to overthink things before she nodded politely. "Yes, you can sit here! I'm Clara and um, I don't think we've met, but you're in Ravenclaw, so...what's your name?" Clara said, awaiting his response.

Janelle had finally made it to the Great Hall, fashionably late for once. As she headed toward the Ravenclaw table, she glanced around at the other house tables she passed. Let the fifth year begin. Trying to think positive thoughts, she hoped that this school year would start off better than the last one. It had to.
Reaching her destination, Janelle couldn't help but notice the overwhelming presence of youth at the table. She suddenly felt rather old. Old at fifteen, that was funny. Pushing the thought aside, Janelle found an empty spot and sat down. It was good to be back. Now what was she going to do first? Was it almost time to eat yet?

Louise Fellen had never been in a room with floating candles before. Next to the talking hat (that, at least, she had been prepared for through reading), the candles above were the most mesmerising. Her robe trailed behind her as her tie magically switched from the unassuming black to a brilliant blue and bronze. She didn't even notice the change and shyly skirted the applause of her new housemates. Maybe one would come talk to her later but for now the table was much more interesting.
And the plates! So clean! She vaguely wondered if they used a muggle dishwasher for it all, but upon closer examination of the cutlery, she saw that there wasn't even a water stain. No dishwasher then? Then she had a horrifying thought.
What if they made the younger students clean the dishes? Wasn't that a thing that people made new kids do? Louise stared at her plate with a terrified expression. She didn't notice just how odd she looked doing it.

Azura looked over at Kitty as she sat down by her and she managed a bit of a smile as she looked over at the other girl. "Hiya Kitty.. I missed you too." She said with a nod before the pale girl paled ever more.. How was her summer.. It was the dreaded question, one that Azura didn't fully know how to answer, and she looked over at Brady for a moment.. trying to gather some courage to answer it..
"My summer.. was.. interesting.." It wasn't a lie, but she couldn't tell the truth either.. "How was yours?" She was quick to change the subject as she looked over at Haddie.. she was about to respond to the girl when she noticed that she had left and moved up to the Head Table..
Azura bit her lip as she looked at the Professors'.. She thought about the letters from her Aunt that she had in her bag.. she needed to give them to them.. Part of her didn't want to.. But she knew they were probably charmed to send themselves if Azura didn't.. So.. Tomorrow she would begin her round of taking the letters to the Professors..
And the Headmaster.. a task she wasn't looking forward to.. Where was Moxley? She really liked her!!
Azura turned to Brady and she gave him probably the only genuine smile she had managed since she had gotten the news about her mother.. And she felt tears come to her eyes as he spoke to her.. "Thank you Brady, I might be taking you up on that." Seriously.. the boy felt like he was her safe haven at the moment..
She nodded as he spoke.. "I'll try to eat a little something." She said softly as she looked up at him, she would try for him.. He was being so amazing about this whole thing.. As he put his hand on hers, Azura was almost tempted to turn her hand around and lace her fingers through his.. But she didn't.. She just briefly leaned her head on his shoulder for a moment..
