Art was stooped over his walking stick. It was all that was holding him up. He'd thought this would have been fun, a good idea, something to get a laugh, but he was regretting it now. The walking stick was shaking under his tremour. Even dear Madame Curie was looking at him, her little nose sniffing about in concern. He slowly, slowly pulled out his chair, walked around it, and sat down. It took him about two minutes to be able to lift up high enough to place his backside on the chair, but there it was. And hopefully he wouldn't have to move it this lesson. It would take a few hours for the potion to wear off.
The door was already open, and the ingredients were lined up under a charmed piece of cloth. Mostly so that he could be sure nobody had tampered with them, but also to keep the ingredients a secret. At least for now. He was starting to think about how he would manage to reach across the desk to lift the cloths... how would he manage that? Well, a class of students, he was sure he could ask one of them to lift it up for him.
Prepare all ingredients as listed in the ingredients list, weighing and measuring each carefully.
Slowly heat the red wine and prune juice and begin stirring clockwise until you can just see bubbles starting to form. (The mixture will be dark purple/brown)
Immediately add the Hairy Fungus and continue to stir clockwise for ten minutes. (The mixture will slowly fade to a lighter purple/brown)
Continuing to stir clockwise, add the tortoise shell. (The mixture will be a creamy color)
After eight minutes, remove the cauldron from the heat and add the caterpillar and bat tongue, making sure to continue to stir the solution in a clockwise motion for five minutes, until it changes to a creamy green colour.
As the potion cools, it will turn emerald green. Once it is completely cooled (about fifteen to twenty minutes), you may cease dispense the potion into appropriate vials for storage.

And see? Once things were uncovered it wasn't NEARLY as exciting. Char deflated noticeably and dramatically flopped into a seat and copied the instructions down from the bored.

She perked RIGHT up as it HIT her: AGING POTION? DOSAGE BASED? But what was AGING exactly? Was it ALSO MATURING? Because REASONS.
She had to KNOW.
Charlotte shot out of her seat and zoomed up to the professor. She had a question, but she needed to WHISPER IT IN HIS EAR.
For reasons.

Not quite? So... it wasn't exactly a beard-growing potion. Aww, it would've been interesting. "Too bad, Professor, it would've been such a funny thing to see. Possibly beard-whipping could've happened," Vivi said, then flashed a small smile at Professor Oldiepants. "But that's okay! Maybe we could do that in another lesson." She was going to stay hopeful about that. Besides, who wouldn't want BEARDS? They could stroke it and braid it all day! She giggled at the thought of it.
Ooooohhhh, an aging potion!!! Well, her answer was close enough! Vivian wiggled on her seat. There was a small small chance she would grow a beard in this lesson! It was exciting... EXCITING! The blonde immediately took out her handy dandy notebook, glittery quill, and her puhrettayyy PURPLE ink. So much YES in this entire thing! If she were to take down notes, then she would do it in style. Did she need a partner in this? Oh, definitely not. She'd survive on her own! Gotta trust her own skills. She was totally looking forward to an awesomesauce lesson!
Once she took down everything written on the board, she looked back at the Professor. Right, so... measuring cups and little bowls. Got it. The tiny girl scurried to get those too, and the ingredients as well. With that done, she carried all of them, though her tiny arms were struggling a bit, but she managed to reach her seat before they could fall. Would've been a waste. PHEW!
Look it! Her first spell to learn. The cleaning spell her mum would use at home whenever they made a mess, thought mummy Vanya never really said the incantation out loud. Healers were so... quiet. Non-verbal magic, perhaps? Interesting, really. Vivi paid much attention to it. Sc... scourgify. She had to remember that. She practiced the hand movement as well. It was just a simple S, so no big deal there. Vivi pointed her wand at her cauldron. "Scourgify!" she said with the S hand movement. "Hey, it worked!" Shiny and clean cauldron! Yay! She knew her Auntie Elise would be so proud of her! Vivi wiggled on her seat.
Moving on... to preparing the ingredients! Woohoo!

Hadleigh didn't mind the sniffs of Madame Curie one bit. It was how most animals got to know whether or not something was a threat and a threat she was not. "If you're sure Professor," she whispered with a nod of her head. She was seated up front like usual if the man happened to decide that needed some assistance or anything at all.
When Professor Newton went on explain the reasoning for his slow movements and why he appeared rather ill it made sense. Or course he had taken a potion to cause the situation upon himself. Not just any potion however...An Aging Potion. Which they were about to brew today. Enough said already. "If anyone would like someone to work with I wouldn't mind at all." As stated this was an advanced potion and this lesson did appear to have quite the large amount of younguns. She was here if anyone wanted to work with her.
Pulling out a fresh sheet of parchment and her quill the first thing she got started on was her notes. Which meant she copied everything word for word from the board.

Setting her quill and parchment aside Hady rose to her feet and made her way to the front of the room in order to collect the ingredients she needed that she didn't have. It wasn't much as her ingredients stock was rather well supplied. Returning to her table she laid everything out in the order in which she would be using it.
First things first with a flick of her wrist her wand was in her hand. Closing her fingers around the smooth wood she pointed it at her cauldron and preformed the 'S' shape clearly stating, "Scourgify." Instantly she had known it had worked as there sat her cauldron sparkling clean.

Abby took a note of the ingredients and instructions off of the blackboard and got herself ready to make her potion and she just knew that if she took her time and still managed in finish in the allotted time scale then things should be okay that is what Abby was hoping for anyway and she didn't really want to help any of the younger students out her potion making at the moment wasn't great and she needed to concentrate on herself to make sure things went fine and first thing that Abby did was made sure she cleaned out her cauldron and said "Scourgify" Abby was glad that her cauldron was now clean and she got herself ready to do her next step in the potion

Mason kept her mouth shut as the rest answered. It wasn't as if she didn't have an idea of what it was, she knew those ingredients VERY well. They were the same ones that she had begged the Professor for the previous year (he had said no, obviously). She had convinced her dad to send her some of them, and Kitty had gotten the rest from the House Elves in the Kitchen.
She had a few vague memories left from when she and Valentine had brewed the thing in the bathroom, one of them being the gross smell and the tedious stirring. All in all, it had been a pretty successful potion, too bad that they had wasted it. . .
Shaking the thought from her head, Mason continued scribbling down the notes, even though she already knew all of these things. . . #notbragging.
SPOILER!!: Notes
Mason smiled with satisfaction down at her notes, neat and perfect. When she was sure that the ink was dry, she closed the notebook and put it aside, making way for all of the potioning that she was about to do.
Mason heaved her heavy bag onto the table and began rummaging through it, pulling out everything from vial to pewter and spreading them out on the space that was still available on the table. She threw the bag back onto the floor when everything important had been taken from it.
Ah, yes little peasant, thank you for the ingredients.
Oh, annddddddd, can't go to work with an icky cauldron. Mason reached into her robe-pocket and rummaged around, feeling for her wand. . . AH! She pulled the Yew from the pocket and removed a little piece of lint from it, her pockets were weeeiirrrddddd. Clearing her throat and pointing her wand at the awaiting cauldron, she cast, "Scourgify!" and since she had super powerful SECOND-YEAR powers, it made her precious all clean and squeaky. Insert satisfied-smirk here. And the wand will be staying OUT of the weird pocket until she had no further need for it.
Okay, so first things first after the cleaning: She was going to have to measure said ingredients PERFECTLY, cause her potion had to be perfect. Unlike last year *cough* poison *cough*. She need the wine and the prune juice first, so before she'd measure those, she was gonna start by pre-heating her cauldron by setting the flame to a little ickle size. Yes, things were going well so far, even if she hadn't even started yet. . .

With all of the equipment placed in front of her, Vivian was ready for some potion brewing action! Vivi looked up at Professor Newton, her eyes following his every movement. She also listened carefully to every word he said. So, they were to mash the hairy fungus first. The Slytherin looked down at the said ingredient. Meh... it was kinda gross. Her nose wrinkled at the sight of it. But... she had no choice, if she wanted to finish things up. She measured all of the ingredients as exact as possible. 100ml of red wine, done. 10ml of that prune juice, done too. 2 grams of hairy fungus, done three. As well as the 2 grams of tortoise shell, and 5 grams of caterpillar. They were all done. The bat tongue... they only needed one. YAY for progress!
Rolling her sleeves up, Vivian pulled the hairy fungus closer to her and gave it one more cringe. She placed the hairy stuff on her mortar and then started pounding it. POUND POUND MASH MASH MASH MASH. Small struggle there, but she will survive! A small portion of the tip of her tongue was sticking out as she mashed the hairy stuff until what Professor said was a "somewhat uniform consistency". She tilted her head a bit. Did this look good enough? She looked at Professor Newton for approval. "Is the consistency alright, Professor? Or... does it need more mashing?" Just to be sure. She didn't want to end this class with half burnt robes or an exploded cauldron, really.
She stared at the tortoise shell. Bahhhh, she'll deal with that one LAST.
Vivian moved on to the caterpillar. She didn't actually find it gross because she'd seen some in her garden at home. She and Francine loved to poke them and take them away from their mum's flowers. She carefully sliced the caterpillar, following what the Professor had said, and then took a moment to judge her handiwork. Ah, it looked good! She would've patted herself on the shoulder for a job well done but... yeah, she had her hands full at the moment.
It was time for the bat tongue now. EEWWWW GROSS! Vivi cringed more and even had to look sideways because.... Merlin, it was disgusting. They were going to dice a poor bat's TONGUE? Horrid, and so.... ugh. Vivi took deep breaths - she was being so dramatic, considering she was raised by a Fairfield father - before finding all the courage to get a grip and cut the said ingredient. First lengthwise, and then diced it from there. Just like how her mummy would dice their cooking ingredients at home! Except not like now, where everything was kinda gross. Ewwuhhh.
Once that was done, she eyed her tortoise shell. Setting aside her now mashed hairy fungus, Vivian cleaned up her mortar and pestle with another "Scourgify." She started pulverising the shell, though she really had a freakin' hard time because it was so SOLID and HARD.
"Uhhh... Professor, I think I'll be needing help with the tortoise shell thing." And a sheepish grin for him. Sorry, her tiny hands couldn't handle it all.

Abby looked at her notes and started to make sure that she weighed all of her ingredients out properly before adding them to her cauldron and starting to make the potion but she looked at everything and thought to herself that she could do this so she decided to take each step one bit at a time and if she needed help then she could just ask for it
Philipe slid down slightly into his seat, feeling embarrassed... and an aging potion, of course... The one that no one in his family practiced... He sighed slightly but looked up as the professor continued to tell them about what to do. Oh great... This was going to go badly very, very quickly for him. He never had success on his first try on potions, so... all Philipe could hope for was that he didn't mix it so poorly that it could cause death or anything like that.
The fourth year sighed slightly and looked at his cauldron, cleaning it out first. That much he did know considering his aunt lectured him the last time he'd forgotten... He shook his head, now wasn't the time to think about when Chelle's hair had grown nearly 50 feet long... He looked at the ingredients and paused, this was going to be difficult for him, he wasn't very good with grinding things up. as simple of a task it may seem, it was never something Philipe was good at.
Never the less he grabbed some of the hairy fungus and started to grind it as fine as he could... Hopefully that was right... He sighed slightly and looked down at it and paused, wait... Was it supposed to be a super fine thing? Or just enough that it was smooth? He sighed slightly. He was over thinking this... He decided to go with it just being smooth and looked at the turtle shell. Now how was he supposed to do this? Turtle shells were pretty difficult to break actually... He sighed, trying to think of how to do it quickly and hopefully easily without damaging the shell too much.

An.. Aging potion? Azura's purple eyes went slightly wide as she considered that. Obviously she wouldn't injest the whole potion, but.. Perhaps a drop would make her just the slightest bit older. Her birthdays was in a few months.. Hmm..
The tiny Ravenclaw girl snapped her eyes to the professor, and kept them glued on him as he explained what they needed to do. She wasn't even writing in her notebook because she was taking in every detail.. Every movement of what he was doing.. She wanted this potion to be perfect!
After he was done talking, she quickly hurried to the front to grab her bowls and measuring spoons.. She carefully took the correct measure of each ingredient, putting it into the bowls and checking them carefully, making sure they were the correct amount, just like the professor said!
When she was satisfied with how much she had gotten, she carefully took the ingredients and headed back to her station. After arranging the bowls in a neat and orderly fashion..(so she could easily use them and see where they were.) She set to work. Older Azura.. Here she came!

An Ageing Potion made sense, Dalton thought to himself, tapping his foot against the table leg and probably annoying whoever was sat next to him in the process. Of course, Professor Newton was kind of old, but he hadn't been ancient, and right now that was exactly how he looked. Thumbing through his textbook until he found the right page, the fifth year then ran a finger down the method, stopping occasionally to look up at the demonstration of the point he was reading, or to jot some notes down.
Standing up - for it was always easier to brew potions when stood, rather than sat, Dalton thought - he stretched slightly before leaning down and pulling his potion kit and scales from his bag. He had everything, he found, apart from the red wine and the bat tongue, and so he began to measure the rest out, tongue poking out slightly from in between his teeth. When that was done, he returned the rest to his bag and made his way to the front of the room, in order to grab the last of the ingredients.
"Professor?" A pause, before Dalton made his way back to his desk, as a thought occurred to him. "How long is the potion supposed to last?"

Okay so it was STILL exciting to Dora, because advanced Potion brewing and YASSS! It was like Dora had been preparing for this her ENTIRE LIFE! Okay, that was pushing it, but she was still stoked for this. YES SHE WAS. And she could have taken up with a partner, but truth be told, she wanted to work alone on this.
Pulling her wand from its holster, Dora cast Scourgify on her cauldron and began to clean it up nicely before she went to collect her ingredients. She had SOME of them, but she was not in the habit of toting around prune juice, wine, and fungus... so yeah. Heh. When she was done cleaning the cauldron to her liking she pulled her kit out and went to gather the ingredients, eyes only for her work at the moment! NO DISTRACTIONS PLEASE!
The minute Jessica heard the fact that it was an aging potion, she smiled slightly. Secretly she had guessed so the minute she saw it but it was nice to know she was correct. He took an aging potion, it explained the way the professor looked and acted right now.
Thankfully they had the option to work alone, she wanted to make sure her first potion was done correctly and she didn't mess up. This way, by working alone, she had control of it.
As she hummed slightly at the 90 minutes she nodded her head, sighing as she tried to look through all the ingredients already in her possession. she found that she was only missing the liquids, good. She quickly stood up from her place and walked to the front, carefully measuring the Red Wine and Prince Juice before shuffling back to her place, too scared to even stumble and fall.
A sigh of relaxation fell over her as she carefully sat down before biting her lip. Maybe taking notes was a good idea.

After taking the entirety of the notes, she relaxed a bit, realising that it didn't seem that difficult. After she heard him explaining to light the flame underneath the cauldron she suddenly realised that she forget to do something. ...
He made mental notes about the ingredients as they were being passed around, but wasn't motivated to say anything. See, he didn't need to speak his wisdom to be a know-it-all. As it was, his faith in Newton was still.... well, questionable, but if this lesson went well he could maybe right his dad that the man had improved over the summer. His current condition was hardly desirable though. The man was practically fit for a coffin, which left him wondering what it was they were actually brewing. Did he need them to brew an antidote? Maybe.
Zeke remained quiet, opting to take some preliminary notes on his parchment. What he did do though, was turn to Janelle and offer her a wink. "I can help you work through this one if you like." He was a total expert, or something like it.
Janelle gave Zeke and elbow bump in return and smiled to herself as the class was called to order. Wow, the professor really did not look well today. She had been so focused on her doings, that she hadn't paid much attention before. He really seemed to be struggling and Janelle wondered whether this could have something to do with today's lesson.
When the first question was on the table, Janelle thought about it for a moment. If the professor's condition was related to the lesson.........what type of potion could have this type of effect? If the two weren't related, well who knew? Janelle wasn't sure, but raised her hand anyway. "Is it a potion that slows down your movements?", she guessed. Everything about the professor seemed to be in slow motion, even his speech.
Hearing Zeke whisper to her, Janelle responded softly. "Thanks. I will definitely give you a nudge if I get stuck." She appreciated the offer of assistance. It was nice to know that you had someone more experienced to turn to if you needed help.
Turning her attention back to the professor, Janelle listened carefully. And then the mystery was solved. They would be brewing an aging potion. Thank Merlin, they wouldn't have to drink this one. Janelle had no desire to feel ten times her age today. No thanks.
Now that Janelle knew what she would be doing, her first order of business was to copy the ingredients from the board. As she wrote, a little giggle escaped from her lips. Red wine and prune juice. Now that was a combination. She imagined that prune juice alone could make a person feel one hundred years old. Janelle added the instructions to her notes, making sure that she had copied them correctly. Then she went up front to grab some measuring cups and bowls. Returning to her work station, she cleaned the bowls, measuring cups and the last of her equipment that had not already been cleaned. Having her sister drill the importance of potion cleanliness into her head repeatedly, Janelle cleaned her cauldron again........just to be safe. Jasmine was just a tad obsessive about clean equipment and Janelle had pretty much been programmed to be the same way. Finally, she returned to get the ingredients that she did not already have in her potions kit. She measured them carefully and returned to her work station. Donning her gloves, Janelle felt ready to begin.

Echo knew that she needed to work with a younger student to help them out, which kind of went against her nature but hey if it showed the professor that she could help then meh, she was going to do it. Looking around she spotted a younger girl who was having a little trouble with her cleaning spell.
Making her way over she coughed. "hey mind if I help and brew my potion as well?" she asked the kid. Hopefully she takes it because Echo was already setting up shop. all of her tools and cauldron were set up and all she needed to to was to make sure she cleaned them, because she couldnt remember if she did it last time she had finished a potion and better to be safe than sorry right. Taking out her wand she said "Scourgify" an everything was instantly clean.
Instead of doing everything for this girl, Echo thought it would be best to help by asking her what to do, so she learned. "so what are you supposed to do next?" she flipped open her own notes to see if the girl was going to give her the correct answer. "Names Echo by the way" she smirked at the girl. Hope she knows shes with the sassy snake over here.
Kitty glanced sideways at Mason when the Professor confirmed that he had taken an aging potion. It just so happened that Kitty and Mason had personal experience on this subject. Why, last year they had brewed some in an unused bathroom. It was Mason's idea on how to break into the Forbidden Section of the library so they could learn about the tapestry that Kitty was so obsessed over. Kitty had gotten some of the ingredients from the kitchen (with Lullan's help, but she hadn't known what they were doing) while Mason had wrote to her dad for the rest. Then they had met in the unused bathroom on the fifth floor and Kitty had read the instructions while Mason brewed the potion. It worked, but unfortunately the library was locked - and so their plan had failed. Even though it had technically been a failure, Kitty looked back at that experience with fondness, and now she and Mason had experience.
She snickered to herself not as silently as she would have hoped as she went to gather the familiar ingredients. Red whine, prune juice, harry fungus, tortoise shell, caterpillar,(how interesting) and last but not least - a bat tongue. Check. Once she had all these ingredients gathered together she pointed her wand at her cauldron and muttered, "Scourgify!" Next she had to heat the red whine and the prune juice.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
When her name was called, Bec saluted the Professor and stood up from her chair. As she moved towards the front of the classroom, she waved back at Mason before she grabbed hold of a cloth and lifted it up to reveal. ...Liquid. Another cloth was lifted up to reveal another bottle of ...liquid. Okay, what?
When her task was over, she walked back to her seat and sat down while listening to the instructions of the Professor. So they were going to make an aging potion? Had the Professor drank some to test his own potion? Or was he always this old?
90 minutes...she could do this! The Gryffindor grabbed her phoenix feather wand and pointed it at her cauldron. She listened carefully to how the Professor was pronouncing the cleaning incantation and shouted "Scourgify!" had...it...worked? The girl looked inside of her cauldron which had already been clean so she had thought this spell was pointless in the first place. Ah , it was clean enough for her!
As Jessica was about to start with the next step herself, she heard a girl caught and as she quickly looked up after the question that followed she saw a girl standing next to her.
Considering she was already setting her stuff up, it felt rude to ask the girl to pack and go somewhere else so instead she nodded. "Of course, it's fine with me." Jessica's voice was gentle. Though it was gentle it was easily heard. She smiled slightly up before looking over her notes one more time.
The girl performed her cleaning spell easily and got it right the first time. Even though she shouldn't mind considering she looked a considerable amount older, she couldn't help but feel a bit defeated, making a mental note to herself to practice her spells a lot more.
"Oh, uhm, right.." Jessica was shaken out of her thought the moment the girl asked her the question and she quickly grabbed her notebook to read it over. "Nice to meet you, Echo, my name is Jessica." She smiled back slightly, humming quietly as she read over her notes.
"Okay, since we did the cleaning of our cauldron and stuff, I supposed we need to gather the ingredients and get those ready already. We need 2 grams of mashed hairy fungus so if you could do that for the both of us, I'll try and attack the tortoise shell and get that to powder for us. After that we need 5 grams of sliced caterpillar each, if you would do that as well? Then I'll do the 2 diced bat tongues." She smiled slightly after her explanation, a bit anxious if she said everything right or not.
"Oh, you'll also need 100 ml of red wine and 10 ml of prune juice as there's no water or other liquids involved. I'll get that for you." She smiled softly before making her moves to get it the liquids sorted for Echo.

It took her a few second but then she remembered she saw him clean the cauldron with the spell and she quickly grabbed her wand, remembering what he did exactly.
As she pointed to the cauldron. "Scourgify."
Fantastic, were things already going wrong at a simple task like this? After two more tries, she luckily got it and quickly cleaned the tools as well. The professor was doing his thing, explaining and already making the potion. She just hoped her notes were enough to help her through.

ohh a take charge kind of girl!!
Echo had a feeling she's going to like this little Hufflepuff, which is weird because she hasn't had to many good interactions with the Hufflepuffs that she had interacted with. "okay so I'm grabbing the hairy fungus and I'll cut the caterpillars " sweet she's getting to do less work to because this little puff seems to want to do things for her, maybe she will just keep Jessica around. "thanks Jessica"
First grabbing them enough hairy fungus to mash for them to equal out to 2 grams each so in total 4 grams, she put them in her bowl and started to mash away, with these it was pretty easy, the fungus just seemed to want to be squished, it was quite soft. smiling she finished her task in no time at all. Echo grabbed a scale and weighed both of their mash and it was 2 grams right on the dot. "okay so the hairy fungus is finished."
Watching Jessica run around and grabbing things she continued on her second task by grabbing a lot of caterpillars and started to slice them nicely, making sure that each slice was the same as the last. Echo cut into one and juice spurted out all over her lab coat. "ewww, thank goodness I'm wearing this thing" if this landed on her robes she might have vomited right then and there. grabbing a cloth she quickly wiped it away with out looking, she didn't want to get sick. "Jess did I get it?" hoping Jessica dint have a soft stomach, she finished quickly the cutting of the bugs!
weighing them again she made sure that each Jessica and herself had 5 grams of sliced caterpillars. "okay so those are done, how are your tasks coming?" she asked her new young acquaintance
Heading up Dora pulled on her gloves and carefully measured and weighed the ingredients quietly. YEP. She was CONCENTRATING! In fact she was so focused that she had poked her tongue out between her teeth ever so slightly as she worked. Once she was done with her gathering the blonde carefully made her way back to the workstation, ingredients in hand.
Once she had laid each and every one out in a neat little row, from which ingredient she used first to what she used last, she was READY TO GO! Lab coat, CHECK! Goggles, CHECK! Wand to light the flame? CHEEEECK! This. THis was her favorite part of Potions class EVERRRR! FIRE! Her wand was PERFECT for starting fires, you see. So she was always invigorated when she got the opportunity to start the flame with magic. Besides, the kid was a bit of a pyro anyway. HEHE.
"OKay." Content with having a reasonable answer, Hadley didn't think anymore on the fact that Professor Newton was sitting. Looking at the ingredients however did nothing for Hads. She had to open her book and flip through the pages while skimming for any ingredients like the ones up at the front.
And she had about as much chance of stumbling upon the right answer as she did in successfully brewing whatever it was. How the others even had guesses were beyond her. After a minute, Haddie gave Newton a shrug and closed her book.
An Aging potion? Yeah...she would have never guessed that. But so cool! Haddie was already thirteen. By the end of this lesson she could be, like, twenty or something. Then she wouldn't have to listen to the Professors, for however long it lasted. Or she'd be in the Healer's ward.
Probably, definitely, the Healer's ward. But either way, the chance to be twenty was too tempting. And Hadley Denaker decided right then, she was gonna to risk it. I mean she already survived being poisoned in this class, so...
First step. As always. The first spell Hads ever learned. "Scourgify!" Her brand new, un-partially-melted, cauldron was already clean but dust and stuff. It was better to be safe than sorry. The pestle and mortar were the same she had last year so, "Scourgify! Scourgify!" They both got cleaned. Now for the ingredients.
Echo had a feeling she's going to like this little Hufflepuff, which is weird because she hasn't had to many good interactions with the Hufflepuffs that she had interacted with. She hummed slightly, listening as Echo repeated it. "Hmm, you're welcome, it's no problem."
She came back with the red wine and prune juice, pouring Echo's in her cauldron before doing the same for herself with her own liquids before grabbing the tortoise shell. How she was going to get it to powder she had no idea, but well, she'd make it work. She took a deep breath just to give herself some confidence before she started to get her and Echo some powdered tortoise shell.
She glanced up slightly once Echo finished the hairy fungus, a slight smile appearing on her face. "Fantastic, one more thing to go." With a slight chuckled she continued to get it powdered down, being just over half way done.
As she could hear Echo's voice full of disgust, she giggled slightly. "That's absolutely disgusting, oh dear. I'm glad it's just on your lab coat though." Once she was finished with the shell, she sat back, her forehead covered in sweat while she used the back of her hand to push the hair out of her face, looking over to her partner. "I am so glad you made each slice the same honestly, it would have given me anxiety otherwise." She laughingly said, taking a deep breath before sitting up again and grabbing the bat tongue.
"Only these tongues to cut up and then we're done with the ingredients, thankfully." She quickly cut up the tongues, handing Echo her bits of her bat tongue in a bowl before smiling as she put the knife down.
"Ingredients done, which means... potion time." As she glanced at her notebook she quickly read the second point. "Slowly heat the red wine and prune juice. Stir clockwise until bubbles form and the colour should be dark purple brownish at that point. After that we have to add the hairy fungus and stir for 10 minutes, still clockwise"
She looked over at Echo while organising her own things in order that they would need it and then started to carefully light her burner, placing her cauldron on it while she grabbed her stirrer, starting to stir it clockwise.

Aww! L o o k i t! A FELLOW HAPPY PERSON among this sea of glum and sadness. Olivia practically beamed at Matt as he took his seat next to her, scooting a bit closer to give him a one-armed snuggle. Nope, she wasn't particularly close with her Gryffindor housemate. Nor had she ever really spoken to him, but none of that matter, obviously. LIV WAS A HUGGER. So, he'd earned himself a hug.
Hi.
...and she'd probably gotten some of her glitter on him. Oops.
Occupational hazard: theater kids will sparkle on you!
....AND THE PROFESSOR WAS SMILING AT HER! Yup! That was absolutely what smol blonde loved to see: her antics bringing about cheer in others! After she'd finished her "performance" and snugged her seating buddy, she wiggled her fingers at the older man. See?! Smiling wasn't so hard. Could everyone just follow his example now?! Merlin, Liv really didn't want her mellow to be harshed.
What "mellow", though?? Who was she kidding. Olivia Phillips had zero chill 100% of the time!
...and it wasn't that she wasn't paying attention and taking note of everything....(okay, there were no notes, but come on! baby steps, people), but Liv pretty much already knew that she'd need an older student's help. Her mum had been fabulous at potions, apparently, but Liv often found herself bored. Easily distracted, this one was.....meaning a lot of cauldrons had been harmed in the making of her life story.
THIS WAS NOT TO SUGGEST THAT SHE WASN'T DOWN TO TRY, THOUGH. So, hand shooting straight up into the air (as she wiggled around in her seat), Liv warned the Potions Professor, "I'll definitely need help if it's something advanced. I don't have great potions skills." First step in fixing a problem was admitting that there was one. Mhm. AND SHE WANTED TO LEARN....in theory.
So her mum didn't send her to a reform school.
Also, Dante Barrington.....we SEE you! We'll get you into a tiara and feather boa yet!
Matt grinned at the professor when he greeted him AND ALSO decided to not correct the old man. ....Nah. "Solo." He said, widening his grin. Mr SOLO, yas.
And huh wut. His housemate was sidehugging him and beaming and spreading glitter all over Matt. She also got a GRIN from him because she was cool. Gryffindors were always cool and she was happy and loud and MATT WAS ALSO HAPPY AND LOUD, SO YEAH, COOL. Friends already even though they never talked much.
Matt didn't guess what the Potion they'd be brewing might be because he honestly had NO CLUE and he didn't feel like guessing. Too much work, y'know. But mostly everyone seemed to be thinking that was an Aging Potion and they were aaaall correct. Look at them brainy people over theeereeee.
The boy blinked as the professor went ooon about how he had taking the potion himself that morning. Yep, they could tell. Haha.
Matt pretended to be OUTRAAAAGED by the fact his Gryffindor buddy said she needed a partner when he was sitting RIHGT NEXT TO HER. "OI! I'm older than you, y'know. I can TOTALLY help." Not. But lol, that would be SO FUN. He shot his hand UP IN THE AIR. "But professor Newt, can we drink the Potion if we want to?" Because MATT WANTED TO. Yas. FUN!!
Seeee, all they needed was to follow the instructions on the board. Matt needed NO HELP. And he would DRINK HIS POTION TOO. #livingontheedge
First things first! That bit Matt didn't eve need to be told, alright.
"Scougify!" Tadah!

Colt was hearing the professor babble on and on and he frankly tuned him out. He just copied down the steps into his notebook. Hmm so they were making a Aging Potion? He could do with this. Maybe now he could use the I'm older than you excuse to his cousins.
SPOILER!!: Notebook
Colt Winchester
Fifth Year Snake
Aging Potion
Ingredients
100ml Red Wine
10ml Prune Juice
2g Hairy fungus, mashed
2g Tortoise Shell, powdered
5g Caterpillar, sliced
1 Bat Tongue, diced
Instructions
Once he copied it all down and cracked his wrist he went back to work. He went up to the front to get the ingredients. He got his red wine and wondered if he could drink it? Well it is not like the Professor would notice. It seemed like he was in his own little world. Now to find the prune juice. Eeegghh. This was so gross. Why did they need it? This is what grandparents drank. Hence why it was the aging potion. Now to collect the hairy fungus. He carefully picked it up and tried not to touch it. This was so gross. He brought the three ingredients back to his desk. Only a few things grossed him out and hairy fungus was one of them. Now he needed to mash them? Not looking forward to it. He got his tortoise shell, bat tongue and caterpillar. He brought them back and got to work.
He first started measuring his prune and wine juice. He got his cups and measured the 100ml. He saw the prune juice and scrunched his nose up. This was gross. Now to get his cauldron ready. He cleaned it out and muttered "Scourgify!" and it was so clean. Now time to heat it. He put it on his burner and said, "Incendio!" and he saw the fire roar. He added his prune and red wine and waited for the bubbles to appear.
Hadley already knew what to expect from this class. Utter failure...which would somehow get her put on the top potioneering list. She was still piecing that one together. But, hopefully, by the end of this year she wouldn't be a complete hob at potioneering. Hopefully.
And Professor Newton was in a chair. He was never sitting when they came into class. "Hey, Professor Newton...why are you in a chair?" It was a valid question, even if it didn't sound like one. She grabbed her lab coat and made her way up to the front. To Mossy, actually. Not Rachel which was her norm. Well, being in the front did have the benefit of being able to get Professor Newton's help with whatever potion they were doing today.
Sitting down next to her best frenemy, Hadley smiled. "I've made up my mind, Moss. I'm not giving up on our friendship, so sorry, not gonna do it." 'It' in this case was Hads staying away from Mossy forever. "Besides, you need me. You just don't realize it. But," she added, quickly, before the Mosster could leave, or shove Hadley out of her chair. "Me sitting here means you get to see what a total disaster I am at potions, thus proving you're better than me to everyone, including Newton!" Come on, Mossy, you know you can't pass that up. Huh?
Katherine was organising her working area: she first took out her potions notebook and found the right page, then she set out the quill and the scales, gloves, googles, spoons, stirrers... After she was done with putting everything in their exact place - she had come up with this plan after literally spending one full night thinking about where the material should be for the FULLEST efficiency - she took out her wand to begin cleaning every utensil - except, she happened.
Katherine's lips returned the smile back, because the professor was watching and she would never show her true face disrespect around them; but her eyes were as hostile as ever.
Friendship? F R I E N D S H I P ?
Katherine couldn't help but snort. Since when had they been friends, exactly? Because clearly, Katherine had missed a BIG point of her life.
But - no. She wasn't going to react, she wasn't going to retort, she wasn't going to care; because clearly that was what Haddie wanted. A reaction. However, if Katherine didn't give her that, she might just get bored and leave her alone. So, after what felt like an eternity (which was only a second or so in reality), Katherine's face relaxed and she shrugged.
"Whatever floats your boat, friend," she said, and fought with her inner pride to tell Haddie that she would NEVER ever need a loser. No. Besides, she did like the idea of shining in comparison with Haddie. It was too good to reject. It did have the risk of being contaminated with something deadly should Haddie mess up her potion, but it was a risk worth taking. Actually, come to think about it... this was better - she could look after Haddie's cauldron TOO, and the professor WOULD notice how perfect Haddie's potion turned out to be, and logically make the connection.
She did need Haddie, after all.
Before she could say something to Haddie, however, she caught Blaise's nod and although she no longer wanted to talk to him, she waved back; mainly because she didn't really need to be his enemy... now. And then the professor began, and she took her notebook in her hands to catch (literally) everything the professor said.
... ... ... yeah, obviously it was an ageing potion ... ... ... she copied the ingredients and steps as the professor explained they had 90 minutes, and once she was done, she looked around to see which older students had showed up... none that she liked, to be honest. She didn't know most of them, and the people she did know weren't really older. The only person she could ask was Penelope, and she was... not TiaMarie. Besides, a voice whispered in her mind, why not do it alone? You know you can do it, you brewed potions over your skills last year... you can do it, and the professor will notice you. This is your chance. Do it alone, and shine.
She grabbed her wand like Haddie did, and begun cleaning the utensils and her cauldron.
"I assume you're going to work alone too," she said to Haddie as she turned to look at the girl with a different expression (which was the expression of when people realised they could profit from something), "and let's not kid ourselves, you're going to make a mistake. So my offer is: do you want to work together so that I check what you do as well and you'll turn in a correct potion?" Hmmmmmmm, Hadley Denaker?
Not to look too excited (but oh she WAS!), she began readying the ingredients she was going to use in the order they would be used.

Abby made sure that she had 100ml red wine and 100ml of prune juice and she checked her notes again to see how much of the rest of the ingredients she needed and she had to double check that her mortar and pestle were clean and said "Scourgify" "Scourgify" twice to make sure everything was clean she was so worried that she was going to mess up her potion cause of her concentration problems
