Welcome to your first duel!
This is a key stepping stone into determining your placement in the Jinx Tournament so please take this seriously. A list of spells to use can be found HERE while the cost of physical actions can be found below.
Please note that these actions take away from the Fatigue Points section. Also note that these are only taken into account if you're attacking or avoiding a spell. If you're simply moving around the hall, these points don't need to be considered.

A referee (either Professor Airey or Professor Hirsch) will be present to oversee the duels and will only interfere if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.
Please remember to adhere to the Dueling Club rules, the DADA rules as well as the SS Site rules.

OOC: This duel must be completed by the 14th of June by 11:59pm GMT. You're required to make a minimum of 3 posts each in that time.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting me about them or posting them in the Dueling Club Rules thread. If you don't think you can post during that time or you don't think you can start/finish your duel, please let me know as soon as possible and we'll try and work something out.
Remember to keep a track of your points both in the title of your post (before any spells have been cast) and at the end of the post (after your charrie has cast a spell). Please refer to this post if you're confused as to how this works or, simply, come to me. Include as much information as you can about the spell in the spoiler section at the bottom of your post, including the directionality of the spell.
Also remember to be as realistic as possible with your charrie's age and ability.
First person mentioned in the thread title is the first person to start off the duel.

This term she was the only Toussaint taking part, Char was well aware. It didn't matter that her last name was Kettleburn, she was just as much Toussaint as anything else. And the previous term, all three Toussaints who had dueled -herself and her two cousins Bastien and Dmitriy- had all WON their respective dueling levels. And of course Char wanted to do that again herself, but mostly? Mostly she wanted to improve even more, and challenge herself and impress Hirsch and EVERYONE and and AND have FUN because dueling was SO fun, didn't everyone agree?
All kitted out in her dueling gear, hair tied neatly and securely back, Char practically skipped into the arena for her first duel. EXCITING! And a brand new opponent! Yup. Not that Char was unprepared, she was pretty good on the stats of all the duelers in her age bracket, she watched all the duels and was very interested and curious about different strategies.
"Hi! Kitty right?" They'd never properly met, but Char knew who she was since she was Chloe's dormmate and Char herself was friends with a whole TON of Ravenclaws in their year. "Good luck! Lets have fun!"
She did her salute and paces and then when the bell went, she began, starting on the offensive with a strong and speedy stinging hex towards her opponent, and then following it up with a featherlight charm on herself.
She bounced from foot to foot and smiled excitedly. WASN'T THIS THE BEST?

She walked into the arena feeling much more confident and happy than she had been last term - and also much more determined. Last year she had failed to win even one duel, and she was certain that everyone watching was expecting her to fail again this year; but she was determined to win at least once. Maybe this duel would be that time.
Her opponent was Char, one of Kitty's dorm mates. They had never properly introduced themselves to each other (which was a shame), but Kitty still knew some things about her and she was quite fond of her. "Yeah, I'm Kitty," replied Kitty with a small smile. "Yes, let's! Good luck Char." She saluted and resumed her position, wand at the ready.
And they were off! She sidestepped to avoid stinging hex, but even so it had been so fast that Kitty could have sworn she felt the air rush past her as the spell ALMOST hit her. Then she pointed her wand at Char and muttered the incantation to a quick cheering charm. | |

Char wasn't sure WHAT was being sent at her because she'd only heard a mumble and not been able to make it out, but she also wasn't about to stick around and find out if she could help it! And she could! She cast a Jelly-Fingers curse even as she darted out of the way, still bouncing eagerly from foot to foot, and then bringing her wand back around for a follow-up, a quick and determined one-two.
"Tarantallegra!"
With luck her opponent would be hit by both, and she was sure interested to see what Kitty would throw at her next. Speaking of which....
"What was that spell I dodged just now?" She asked with cheerful curiosity. Cheerful enough that some might be forgiven for wondering what exactly kind of effect a cheering charm could even have on someone like her.

"Oh no you don't!" Kitty sidestepped Char's first spell, but she hadn't been expecting a second one. A squeak went out from her as she got hit by it. Next thing she knew she had lost control of her own legs and they were dancing uncontrollably. "This is crazy!" She shouted as she performed a move she would not have been able to do on her own. Normally she wasn't very good at ANY type of physical activity, but here she was dancing like a pro! She may as well have been one of those dancers in that old Muggle movie, Grease. That ended quickly, however, and soon she was dancing to the beat of a slow romance song. While her legs slowly danced to the imaginary tune, Kitty fired a quick disarming spell in Char's direction. She didn't expect it to hit but it was done to keep her opponent busy. Soon the dancing spell had worn off completely.
"It was a cheering charm!" Kitty answered in a flustered voice, panting slightly from her dancing adventure. If she was not so embarrassed, she would have glanced at the audience to see what their reaction had been. "Not-not that you need it. Cantis!"
Her aim was quick and true.

Wow! A cheering charm! Charlotte was impressed. That was a tough one! So what if it hadn't hit her, it was still impressive that Kitty had that in her repertoire for dueling. Char applauded the dancing, still doing her own little foot-to-foot jig with the sheer energy trapped in her body.
"Nice moves, Kitty!" Really! The dancing AND the spellwork!Was Kitty ready for more? Because Char was! She shot another Stinging Hex at the Ravenclaw girl while Kitty danced.
And luckily Char didn't get a chance to get bored since Kitty was shooting another one her way. Char deflected it like a muggle table tennis player, sending the Expelliarmus spell back with a shout of "Protego!"
No chance to cast anything else defensive though, not with Kitty once again on the attack! Charlotte threw herself flat to the floor, her hair practically standing on end as the Cantis spell whooshed over her head. Whew! That was a close one!
Aaaaand back on her feet!

"Th-thanks," panted Kitty, still exhausted (and still embarrassed) from her forced dancing. Right around this time she wished that she knew the featherlight charm.
But before she knew it, Char had fired again - and this time it was a nasty spell. "Finite!" she shrieked, pointing her wand at the oncoming spell - blocking it completely. She was NOT about to be seen covered with red welts and inflammation, thank you very much.
Unfortunately she was too exhausted to duck or even raise her wand to try to stop her spell from bounding back on her. The Expelliarmus knocked her wand flying to the floor. She quickly bent down and snatched it back up before casting her next spell. "Steleus!" It was a spell she had only practiced twice before, both times on herself. If successful, Char would begin sneezing just about now.

"You're welcome!" Char answered cheerfully, but she wasn't about to let up. The newest spell in her repertoire, one that she learned thanks to her favourite fifth year (the cute one who was also a very good kisser), was Purple Firecrackers. She cast it now, shooting them out of her wand with a look of determination as Kitty lost her grip on her wand.
She was back up though and already shooting another spell at Char. In a split second decision, Char decided to fire back on the offensive rather than block the spell, and attempt to dodge it instead.
"Slugulus Erecto!" She cast. The problem was to make sure her aim was true and more likely to hit, she had to step right in the line of fire and didn't quite have enough time to side step it. Her own spell went right for Kitty, but not before Char started sneezing violently.
ACHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Hopefully Kitty would end up too busy coughing up slugs to take advantage of all the sneezing!

Compared to some of the other duels that the man had overseen, this one certainly wasn't as competitive. In fact, it was almost friendly, in a way. This wasn't something that Hirsch minded so much, even if he did like to see a bit of competitiveness within the duellers.
And it wasn't surprising to see Miss Kettleburn using the featherlight charm. Was this becoming her signature move?
He had no time to wonder about this because soon enough, the two duellers were off with their duel. Spells were being cast left and right and it looked like Miss Valentine was really putting Miss Kettleburn through her paces. Or, at least, trying not to let her win. There was a hint of exhaustion there, however. Natural. Completely natural.
When the time for the duel came to a close, the man struck up the barrier, saving Miss Valentine from spending the next few hours vomiting up slugs. "Well done, both of you. That was quite a duel, I have to say." And yes, Charlotte, you do look like you've had the Cheering Charm cast on you. "You've put up an excellent fight, Miss Valentine, but Miss Kettleburn has taken the title today. Congratulations!" And he was just going to get rid of any lasting effects from the spells cast now.
