Welcome to your first duel!
This is a key stepping stone into determining your placement in the Hex Tournament so please take this seriously. A list of spells to use can be found HERE while the cost of physical actions can be found below.
Please note that these actions take away from the Fatigue Points section. Also note that these are only taken into account if you're attacking or avoiding a spell. If you're simply moving around the hall, these points don't need to be considered.

A referee (either Professor Airey or Professor Hirsch) will be present to oversee the duels and will only interfere if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.
Please remember to adhere to the Dueling Club rules, the DADA rules as well as the SS Site rules.

OOC: This duel must be completed by the 14th of June by 11:59pm GMT. You're required to make a minimum of 3 posts each in that time.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting me about them or posting them in the Dueling Club Rules thread. If you don't think you can post during that time or you don't think you can start/finish your duel, please let me know as soon as possible and we'll try and work something out.
Remember to keep a track of your points both in the title of your post (before any spells have been cast) and at the end of the post (after your charrie has cast a spell). Please refer to this post if you're confused as to how this works or, simply, come to me. Include as much information as you can about the spell in the spoiler section at the bottom of your post, including the directionality of the spell.
Also remember to be as realistic as possible with your charrie's age and ability.
First person mentioned in the thread title is the first person to start off the duel.

A rematch with Rooney! That was pretty exciting - though, granted, Rula was pretty excited for any duel. But this seemed like it'd be even better than last time since it was a rematch. So it'd be loads different since they'd both had even more time to practice and learn spells and find ways to improve. So that made it seem like it'd be even more fun than last time.
Hopefully she wouldn't have antlers during this one though at least.
Stepping up to the arena, she bowed as required and took a quick moment to think of the first spell she could. Expelliarmus was her first thought, but she'd done that a lot last term. So maybe something different this time.

Rooney was actually particularly excited for this duel when he found out who he would be against...again. Last time had been so close that it had been a triple kick to the gut when he had lost to Rula. But this was a new year, and they were both now in a different category and he was going to try his hardest again. Char had been helping him here and there with what textbooks may help and he'd been cramming and practicing. Roo was convinced that he was ready. He gave her a big smile when he bowed, even going as far as taking the first spell she cast with the same smile.
And as he stood there, wand at the ready, Rooney blew a kiss in the girl's direction to throw her off her game. He'd apologise after. She knew it was every man for himself in this club, right?
Although..he had only just learned that himself.
Straight after the blown kiss, he sent a Bewitched Snowballs in her direction, and a "Finite!" at his own feet.

Rula grinned when her spell hit - though she also felt a little uncertain about it because it seemed like he hadn't even tried to block? Maybe her casting was just too quick or-

Her thoughts were cut off when a snowball smacked her in the face. What in Merlin's name-
ACK! Another one!
Merlin's beard, how had she let herself get so distracted? Well played, Rooney Bronwyn.
She brought her free hand up to shield her face from the other snowballs hurling themselves at her and moved her wand up to cast a quick, "Finite!"
No more snowballs? She lowered her hand...and didn't see any. Thank Merlin. Though...she was awfully cold now. Even shivering a tiny bit. Merlin.
Trying to steady her hands, she cast another quick spell in his direction (though maybe a little bit off...). "Densaugeo!"

Rooney found her confusion about his blowing of a kiss hystERICAL and made sure to laugh his way through the snowballs catching her face. Success!! Maybe this duel was going to go his way after all?! He was eager for her to cast back, seeing as he'd distracted her. But he expected better, actually. His eager bouncing on his feet had him ready for a quick one-two, a tactic that Char was a fan of. First, he shouted "Protego!", glad that his teeth didn't start growing..which meant that his shield charm really was good at hold up still. And boom, barely a second later...he sent a simple Ears to Kumquats at the Slytherin.
And just in case she needed to remember that he was going to win this -- he was very determined -- Rooney sent another spell her way. To make sure that she wasn't going to get out of all of this unscathed. "EVERTE STATUM!"
Sorry, Rula.
Could he take his bow now?

Forcing herself to focus and refusing to get distracted again, Rula was prepared this time, watching him cast Protego - and deflecting her spell back. She instinctively ducked and cast a "Protego!" of her own, dodging both spells. A bit redundant, perhaps, but it got the job done.
Except for a few seconds later - as her concentration turned to the spell she was going to cast next, her Shield Charm faltered enough to allow by the sudden spell Rooney'd cast.
Rula was thrown back several feet, landing with an "Oof!" on her back.
Ugh. Merlin's beard.
Was that going to bruise later? Possibly.
Not all fun and games anymore, apparently. (Well, it was still fun, but it was also much more like dueling seriously to win now.)
Her wand, fortunately, had landed next to her as she'd hit the floor, so she quick grabbed it and scrambled to her feet. "Locomotor Mortis!" She immediately cast at Rooney, followed a couple seconds later by a Bat-Bogey Hex.

Roo was completely full of glee when his opponent took a backwards fall and didn't have the time to feel sorry for her because he was quickly victim to rolling out of the way of her wand casting. And then as soon as he had gotten to his feet and was ready to fire back...she had gotten him square in the whatever with his nose gross. He had thought that blowing his nose before this duel would eliminate this spell from working on him, but he had clearly forgotten his right nostril, because he was under attack from green flapping grossness! He was going to need to take a long soak in the tub later after this. AND ALSO AVOID MISS CHARLOTTE. She wouldn't want to sneak off for a catch up and a kiss if he had bogie face.

Completely grossed out, the fourth year flapped his own arms to try bat the winged assailants away. "Gross!" NO NO WHY WAS ONE TRYING TO GET INTO HIS MOUTH UGH. Wand brandished, Roo squealed out the one spell he really needed right now. "FiniiiIIIITE!" Still so disgusting. Still so absolute disgusting. He was now going to have to scrub away at his tongue because one of the flapping bogies had found their way into his mouth area. Rula was going to pay for that.
He wasn't sure where he was going to go next, but threw out a Conjunctivitis Curse as it was the first thing that came to his mind. Maybe it was just the element of gross he was thinking of, but anything to give him a chance to take Rula Botros out. Seconds later, he sent a "Bombarda!" in her general direction, wand aimed towards the floor hoping to take her down with it.
The eye thing had meant she hopefully wouldn't see it. And if his explosion wasn't close enough to her then maybe the pain in her eyes would mean she'd fall into a hole.
All speculative guessing, hm.

There were many ways of distracting someone during a duel and Rooney Bronwyn had chosen one of the most awkward ones.
Awkward for Hirsch, that is.
The man stood there, eyebrows raised and very thankful that the duel had moved on. Though, he had to commend the Ravenclaw for choosing this distraction method because, well, it worked! He just hoped that this wasn't going to be something others picked up on and used in their own duels. No, thank you.
He watched the duel closely, eyes flitting between the two duellers and their unique tactics. Rula was good at using her speed to her advantage and Rooney was good at being quite dramatic with his spell casting. But before he could come to more conclusions, the time was up and so was the duel. He struck up the shield, saving Miss Botros from being hit by two very painful spells.
"Well done, well done!" he said, approaching the two, "Some interesting tactics there, I have to say. Miss Botros, you've put up and exceptional fight, well done. But you, Rooney, have stolen the title today. Congratulations!" Don't blow kisses on your way out, okay?
