As you enter the divination tower this afternoon, you notice that Professor Yoon has transformed it into a tea room. Round tables are set up with the Professor's desk at very front with a jar of fortune cookies. On each table you will find crumpets, scones with butter and some varieties of jam, and of course the tea! If you don't want to drink tea, there is a table on the left side of the classroom where you can find coffee, milk orange juice and water. The Professor is leaning on her desk, waiting for the students and sipping her tea.
Don't forget to take a fortune cookie before you take a seat. Feel free to enjoy the food and the drink while waiting for your classmates!

It was always nice to have someone close to your age to talk to. "Hey yourself", Janelle replied. "I'm Janelle, by the way", she added, as she took the last bite of food. "Well that really hit the spot. Good stuff, huh?"
Then the professor continued to speak and Janelle turned her attention to the front of the class. Ahhhh, so they would be doing Tasseomancy today. As for what she knew about it......not much. She tried to call up what she knew about the subject and then raised her hand. "Tasseomancy involves reading tea leaves. You can't use tea bags, by the way. You pour out the liquid or drink it until and interpret the shapes that the leftover tea leaves form.". Annnnd that was about the extent of her knowledge.
Grinning she was happy the girl didnt send her away. "hey Janelle. the names Echo" she told Janelle. "its really good when the Professors bring us snacks that arent tainted." thats for sure she didnt want a repeat of what happened last yea.
ohh they were starting already oh okay.. hearing Janelle answer Echo had no clue that she was so dumb. Echo has never heard of this before but hey if it means that she has to drink tea then she was all for it. She would even offer to drink other peoples tea if they didnt want to.
"what Janelle said, and id drink all the tea for this to happen" she smiled as she winked at her new friend. and TEA!!! yay!! so excited for this, when she leaves this classroom she wants to be able to hear all the lovely tea move around in her tummy.

Divination wasn't his favourite of classes, but Rooney was always interested for at least ten minutes. And those ten minutes were ticking right now. Tick, tick, tick...
He raised his hand to answer her question, but put it down a second later. In hindsight, answering with 'it's called reading even though it's just interpreting a mess' wasn't the best of choices.
Silent listening was what was given from the Ravenclaw prefect.
He wasn't sure he was fond of these chairs. He liked squishy, but squishy was distracting in a class situation, and this was a class he couldn't afford to be distracted in. The boy leaned back and forth on his chair, holding onto the sides and staring at the cups and food on the table as the professor got the class started.
"It's not about tea, it's about the cup," he murmured, voice coming out rather quiet as he continued to stare at the cup in front of him. "Mom is a Muggle but she likes to try it with wine sometimes, cause one of her books says you can do it that way too. Dad says it's 'just adorable'."
He didn't know if that meant that they really could do it with wine, or if his dad was still enamoured with his mom's obsession with Divination stuff.
"Today, we're gonna discuss about tasseomancy, or tea-leaf reading." She spoke again. "What do you guys know about tasseomancy?"
"Fairy Princess!" Hadley greeted Azzy. She gave a wave to the first year (Bec) that waved to them. Hads could tell things hadn't been fine with Azura. She was discovering she was really good at that. But, she also got the impression that the last thing Azura needed was to tell more people, and constantly rehash the story. There were already rumors about it going around.
Things that Hadley knew she wouldn't really do much to help with, besides provide humor and distraction for her friend. Which she could do without making Azzy relive whatever it was. "Ready to see the future?"
And...wait, seriously? Tea? Ugh. In response, Hads made a face and got up to pour herself a glass of OJ, before making her way back to her seat. Why couldn't the read orange juice pulp instead? Okay...what did Hadley Denaker know about tea-leaf reading? Nothing. But she knew about tea. "It's really disgusting and makes you gag?" That was her helpful contribution to the discussion. In between sips of her orange juice, Hadley glared at the sinister tea cup in front of her, as if blaming it for all the terrible things in life.

Juno knew she had learned a little of this from her mother...or maybe even Esme before. She put her hand up in the air, and waited to be called on. Once she was called on she replied, "Doesn't it have to do with predicting what might happen in the future by interpreting the shapes the bits of tea leaves? You can also do it with coffee grounds and...I think the bits in wine." She was pretty sure that was the answer....she could be wrong though. It did happen...occasionally.

Melbourne looked around the classroom as she sat there staring down at her little fortune cookie. The cookie hadn’t been split open yet, her fortune was yet untold…but still she was craning her neck to look at the fortunes around her…some of these were pretty great.
Professor Yoon was asking them about Tasseomancy when she had finally managed to apply the right amount of pressure and crack the cookie open. Looking over to Tenacius and sneaking a peek at his fortune…oh that was kind of boring wasn’t it? Slipping her paper out she read hers and sighed.
Hers was even more boring. Demonstrate refinement in everything you do…basically telling her not to be her own unique little thing? Right. Raising her hand she spoke up, “I know my sister always said that its best with plain loose leaf tea and not tea that has milk or sugar added to it” Mel explained the one thing she knew about tea leaf reading as she looked at her paper.

The divination Professor listened to some students answering the questions while slightly nodding every time they finished speaking. Some of them just kept silent and listened to their classmates giving their opinion. She waved her wand to the board and wrote some of their answers.

"Just like what your friends had said, tasseomancy is a form of divination that interprets patterns in tea leaves, sometimes coffee ground or wine sediment that left at the bottom of your tea cup." She started speaking. "What Mr. Song had mentioned is right because the term of tasseomancy comes from the word tasseo means cup." She gave a smile to the Slytherin boy. "I know not all of the students here like tea, Miss Denaker." Sora said to the Ravenclaw rude girl. "But unfortunately, we are gonna use tea for today's activity,"
She continued to speak. "I would like to ask your opinion. Do you think there are factors that can affect the results of your reading?" For example. "Just like what Miss Johanson said, it's better to use a plain loose tea leaves, without adding any sugar or milk because it can affect the result... Although put some milk do affect the result, but adding some sugar won't affect too much. Anybody can give me other examples?" She asked to the class. Maybe the material or the cups or so? Come on, just give your opinion about it.
OOC: Feel free to give a creative or crazy answer, don't be afraid to speak up! class will be moved on in 24 hours (or more, I'm afraid) If you feel like the question isn't clear or anything else, feel free to drop me a VM/PM
also: feel free to catch up the first question, jbut don't forget to put the catch-up thingy under the spoiler tag. Sora might not respond it but I'm still gonna read it

Janelle continued to listen as her classmates gave their answers. When the professor began to give her explanation of Tasseomancy, Janelle took notes and copied the information that appeared on the board. Then it was time for another question. What factors could affect the results of a tea leaf reading?
Janelle supposed that a lot of things could affect one's reading. Wasn't that pretty much the case with all types of Divination? Now what exactly those things could be, she was not sure. She decided to take a guess and raised her hand. "Could the type of tea that you use have an effect on the outcome of the reading? I mean, for example, black tea versus chamomile". Maybe, sorta, kinda?

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Bec’s eyes followed Fiyero’s hands as he reached into his bag and took out the picture of the color changing rose. She smiled broadly and took it as he handed it to her. “Thank you! It’s so cool! You’re really a good photographer” she looked at the picture some more before the Professor spoke to her.
Startling a little, the Gryffindor quickly placed the picture in her bag and grabbed her cookie. She cracked it open and read her fortune. 'A loved one is of utmost importance at this time.' the first year pushed the message aside but was grinning as she did so. Her message was so romantic~ She looked around, wondering if her loved one was in the room but then was distracted by the Professor telling them all about Tasseomancy.
Having no clue what it meant though it did sounded familiar, like she had heard or seen the word before. She had probably read it in her Divination book when she was flipping through the pages but it never got stuck. She did however, take notes and wrote everything down that was on the blackboard.
“Well, first of all. If you don’t add sugar to your tea, then what’s the point right?” and who even puts milk in their tea? Weird people lived on this planet. She side eyed her table mates , wondering if THEY put milk in their tea or DIDN’T put sugar in. “And I think the cup should be really …clean? Not dusty. But then who would drink from a dusty cup?” Realizing that she has more questions than answers, Bec closed her mouth and opened her bag to look at the transforming rose photograph she had gotten.

SPOILER!!: catch-up! before class
Carl liked Divination, even though he did not know much about the subject. After all, he practically learned nothing the previous term. When he heard that they had a proper Professor this year, he could not help but look forward to the classes. And he was pleased. For one thing, Professor Yoon did not eat children!
Smiling, the Hufflepuff entered the classroom ... which had been transformed into a tea room. "Good afternoon, Professor!" He greeted and took a fortune cookie at the desk before he sat down at a table. Opening it quickly, he read, 'Someone is speaking well of you.' Aww, that was niceee.
He then turned his attention towards the food and drink around the room. Carl helped himself to milk and a crumpet. Yummy!
SPOILER!!: catch-up! first question
Tasseomancy? What? The next phrase - tea-leaf reading - explained a lot more. He remembered reading about it, but must have forgotten the actual name. All the Divination methods ended with '-mancy' or '-logy', making things really confusing.
"It's not very accurate, isn't it?" He had never tried it before, so he was not sure.
Carl took notes as his classmates' answers appeared on the board. This was really interesting ... except the fact that they were going to drink tea. He drained his mug of milk and set it aside.
He thought about the next question and raised his hand. "The temperature of the tea, maybe?" By now he was really just guessing.

Hadleigh set her plate aside for the time being in order to take down the little bit of notes that were now being listed on the board. Setting her quill down she picked up her glass taking a sip of her orange juice before setting it down once again.
"Could the length it takes someone to drink the tea make a difference?", she asked raising a hand into the air before letting it drop again. Not every one liked to drink their tea right away while it was still hot, others preferred to let the tea sit and cool before drinking it. What did she know really as she was more of a coffee drinker when she was able to do so.

Reading tea leaves, that made sense. Especially considering all the tea in front of them. Maybe Olly should have been able to guess that from the clues, but he was not the best at connecting things like that. There was a reason he wasn't a Ravenclaw. He did like that they had tea though, and took a sip from his as the Professor was asking the next question. This tea wasn't going to make them shrink, was it? He found that he didn't care. It would be fun to shrink again.
The next question he felt he could answer, since it asked for some theories and not straight up knowledge that he would have had to read the textbook to know. Olly raised his hand. "I think how fast you drink the tea would have an effect." It was similar to what Hady had just said but he had more reasoning in his head. "If someone drinks their tea really fast the tea leaves won't have had as long to settle at the bottom into proper shapes and stuff."

"Maybe the pattern of the cup? If the cup isn't white inside, it might be hard to accurately see and read the tea leaves. " If the cup was black or brown inside, how were they supposed to see anything?

It made Esme happy to know that they would be covering one of her favourite forms of Divination today. Picking out symbols and interpreting them was fascinating to her, and on top of that it was something anyone could easily do at home.
There was plenty that she could say on the topic but since other people mentioned a lot about it Esme decided to focus on the cups aspect. She raised her hand. "There are fortune teller cups that people can buy. The most common ones are Zodiac sign cups, playing card cups and symbol cups." She could get into it more but decided to leave it at that since it wasn't crucial that they were used.
Moving on to the next question, Esme contemplated her answer for a moment while her fellow classmates gave their responses. She had something to say as well, so she raised her hand again. "Using teas that have large leaves is not recommended because the leaves can cover the inside of the cup and make it so that you can't interpret the images."

what about honey? would honey change the outcome?
"Professor, would the amount of honey that you add to your tea change the outcome as well?"
because Echo loved herself some tea with honey in it! but she wouldnt drink it if it changed the outcome of her so called future. and plain tea just tasted ewwwww.
She needed to add something sweet just like her, he he he.

Hand up, Rooney wiggled his fingers at the Professor to garner her attention. Yes, yes. Choose me, please! Hehehe. "I'm sure I read that it depends on how empty or how full your bladder is, too." What if you weren't able to drink all of your tea before excusing yourself to the bathroom? What if THAT meant a change in your leaves and THEN it was a blurry message?

Fiyero smiled. He s glad Bec liked her photo. And she thought he was a good photographer? Wow, that was a surprise! He didn't think he'd been at it long enough to get good yet... "You're welcome, Bec," he replied. He didn't know what else to say, and besides, he didn't want to get in trouble for talking.
He watched as Professor Yoon wrote the answers to the last question on the board before asking another one. He listened to the answers his classmates gave. Some if them were pretty funny! He snickered out loud when Bec asked what the point of tea without sugar. He tended to agree; tea was way better with lots and lots of sugsr, which reminded him... He added a couple more packets of sugar to his tea.
Fiyero wasn't sure whether to laugh or gag when an older student mentioned a full bladder, though he didn't think Professor Yoon would be too pleased about him doing either. He definitely didn't remember reading anything about that! But he did vaguely remember reading something about the reader's state of mind. He raised his hand. "Maybe the reader's state if mind has something to do with it," he said, "like if somebody's in a really bad mood, they might be more likely to see bad symbols."

What could affect the... reading thingy? Jaemin sat back in his seat a bit, eyes going to the professor instead of focusing on the still empty cup. He wasn't sure what he would get out of this class, because... well. He still didn't want to eat or drink anything from her. Nothing personal, professor. But not even their shared country of origin could save her from his suspicion.
"The intent you have could change what you read?" he suggested after a short while, tilting his head thoughtfully. "If you intend to try and read about something specific, you might read different things than if you were just reading in general?"

Sora listened to some students that mentioned the tea factor could affect the reading. "Yes, the types of tea that you are gonna use for the reading can affect the result. Many experts suggest to use the tea that doesn't contain any other ingredients like herbs or orange peel, so we are not gonna use chai or chamomile." She turned to Janelle. "And just like what Miss Darcy had mentioned, we can't use the one who has large tea leaves." Pause. "I know that some people who like to add sweetener, like sugar or honey, you don't need to worry because it doesn't affect that much."
And how about the temperature of the tea and stuff? "The temperature doesn't really affect though, but it's best to drink the fresh-brewed tea. So it doesn't matter if you wait the tea to cool enough or drink it while it's still hot. Just watch your tongue." Because it's not good when your drink burns your tongue, right?

"For most fortune tellers, they prefer to work with a simple white cup because it makes them easier to read the pattern of the leaves," She nodded at Azura's answer. But others prefer to use the specific cup, just like Mr. Salander had mentioned. There are three most common types of cup: the zodiac cup, the symbol cup, and the playing cards cup. But for me, the types of the cup doesn't really matter since the price of those cups can be a little bit pricey."

Hmm... "That is an interesting point, Mr. Song." Sora nodded. "Sometimes when you try to read the cup in general, you do miss specific things, and vice versa."

Toilets were problematic.
And he knew that... He HAD been stuck in one before.
Well... That was a unique opinion. "I agree though, because full bladder sometimes makes someone nervous. That does affect the result." She nodded to the Ravenclaw prefect. It was a liiiiitle bit closer to what she wanted to hear.

"Maybe the reader's state if mind has something to do with it," he said, "like if somebody's in a really bad mood, they might be more likely to see bad symbols."
Finally, someone mentioned that. "Yes, your mind affects the results of the reading." She nodded. "That's why before you start doing the reading, you need to stay calm, focus, clear your mind from those all negative vibes or any things that can distract you." She said to the class.
Moving on? Moving on.
"Now, before we practice the reading, I'd like you to do a meditation." Like Sora had mentioned before, they needed to clear their mind in order to get a nice result on their reading. "You guys need to sit comfortably, close your eyes, take a deep breathe and exhale." She instructed. "Just clear your mind from all those negative things. If you have a problem with someone; maybe your boyfriend or girlfriend, parents, or with your study, just try to forget it for a while...." She looked at her watch. "I give you guys 10 minutes to do that, and it starts now."
OOC: This is a mini activity before we started the main one I just need one post for this and then we'll move on to the teacup reading activity in... Approximately 24 hours from now. For those who still want to join the class and catch up the questions, you still can do it now because once the main activity has started, you won't have time for that.
Any question? Just drop me a VM or PM

Azura was listening carefully to Professor Yoon, it was the mind the affects the reading. She could see that, if you were in a bad state of mind, you would just be looking for anything negative, regardless of what was in front of you.
She closed her eyes as the Professor told them to mediate for a few moments. She settled down in her chair more and leaned her head back against the seat. She took a deep breath inward and tried to clear all of the negative emotions from her mind. She kept taking deep breaths, in and out as she focused on the one thing that was bothering her.. Her mother of course.
She tried to let it go, let all the negative thoughts and worry leave her head. Slowly she started to relax a little as she let the ball of tension in her chest start to flow out of her. She focused on happier things, things that still made her smile. Noah, Rainy day, a good song, playing the piano. Talking with friends.. Riding her broom! Feeling the wind rushing through her hair.. The good memories were starting to flood in now, the more she tried.
Kitty closed her eyes and tried to do as the professor told her. She tried to forget about her annoyance at not being able to wear all the makeup she wanted to. On this she was successful. The fact that Yoon let her wear her eyeliner helped her to not only forget about her annoyance, but also to completely dismiss it forever. She could always wear the rest of her makeup other times.
The other thing that was bothering her was how her mom was making her take training from the media trainer, even though his missions were embarrassing and absurd. That one she was not able to dismiss forever, but after breathing peacefully for awhile she was able to temporarily forget about it.
She thought of all her friends and all happy things in her life which she was thankful for. When she was depressed it often seemed like if the terrible things in her life outweighed the good ones, but she knew that that was what everyone thought when they were going through trouble. When she came down to it, the happy and noble things in her life far, far outweighed the bad ones. Did knowing that truth gibe her peace? Yes.

It was nice to have a recap about tea readings because despite practicing them at home and reading up on them there was still a lot that Esme needed to learn. More than anything she was just happy to have a Professor who wasn't evil and who didn't try to eat students. She was rediscovering her love for Divination and it was amazing.
Once she had finished jotting down everything into her notes, Esme set about getting ready to meditate. This was no surprise for her because it was important to clear your mind and feel at ease. At the moment she was feeling at rest but that didn't mean that she wouldn't be taking part in the meditation; it was good for you.
Closing her eyes, she shifted in her seat until she was comfortable and began working on deep breathing. Part of pushing out negative thoughts was focusing on the positive ones, so she set about doing just that. Esme thought about her sister, the fact that Christmas was coming up soon, and all of her amazing friends who made her happy. There was nothing for her to feel bad about because her life was amazing and she was a lot better off than a lot of people. She knew just how lucky she was.
