Was it time for the final charms class before finals already? How was it that the term went so quickly? If you thought Professor Primeaux looked a bit off last class you will really think something is wrong this time. As you walk into the classroom the first thing you might notice is there are no desks, no teacher desk, and no chairs. A very large room with nothing in it.
What could Primeaux really be up to for this lesson? He is standing in the front of the room looking very much back to normal. His face seeming a bit more exhausted then usual, but all in all he looks exactly like the no funny business, be on time, be ready professor he has always been. As you do walk into the empty room there is a note on the board:
Quote:
Students please come into the room and find a seat on the floor. You will not need anything for your lesson today but your wand. Please put everything else in the front of the room so you can get it back when class is over.
OOC: It has come to my attention that nitpicking about the game has happened. The laughing gas is just that LAUGHING GAS. It will not harm your charrie at all. It will make them giggle like crazy. It is a magical castle so it wouldn't be real anesthesia, but magical to make you laugh. As JULIEN said there is nothing in this room that would harm any student. If you have any questions or concerns about MY lesson please feel free to PM me.

So Az wove her way through the other kids in the class towards the blonde and tapped her on the shoulder..
"Hey Juno. " She said with a warm smile. "Would you like to be partners? " She asked the other girl.
Juno was still practicing her protection shield, feeling the magical invisible shield rushing around her as she did so. She was so focused that when a hand tapped her shoulder it startled her, and she gasped.
"Oh, goodness!" She put her heart over her hand, and gave a small chuckle. "Sorry, very focused over here. Hey Azura! I would love to be your partner!" She hadn't hung out with Azura much this term, but the younger girl had just blossomed over the past few months.
"How would you like to do this?" She wanted Azura to take the lead. It was what her father would have done for her.

But then, she figured it had been inevitable that they’d have an easy lesson one of these days. Either way, now she was stuck practicing a charm she’d figured she had down ages ago. It was tempting to just remain sitting by the window, but there was still the charms challenge going on and she didn’t want this lesson to affect her standings with that.
Standing up, she let her wand slip into her hand and she readied her grip. She’d practice if she had to. “Protego,” she cast, moving her wand in the familiar movement and ending the spell as soon as the shield appeared. Somehow there had to be a way to make things more difficult, and her conversation with Hugo in the library ages ago came back to her. Nonverbals. That was a challenge. She got ready to cast again and tried to accomplish it nonverbally. A shield still appeared, but it was definitely fainter.
Shield charm? No problem! Olly had practiced that one loads of times with Noelle. He had it down and was not worried at all. He didn't think he had ever in his life felt so confident about his performance in a lesson. It was a nice feeling.
"Protego." He tried it out because that's what they had been told to do. Even though he was pretty confident with his ability to perform the spell it was always good to practice of course. Practice makes perfect and all that. But just doing the spell over and over by himself would be way too boring so he started to look for a partner if that was an option.
Olly watched an older Slytherin girl near him practice the spell as well. He thought about asking her to be partners but was also kind of too intimidated to approach her. But then he saw her do the spell except she hadn't said the incantation. And it looked so cool he wished he could do nonverbals. Olly inched closer to her.
"Did you just do that nonverbally?" He wanted to see her do it again.

Oh oh oh oh oh they get to do the charms he suggested. New found confidence welled inside of the Gryffindor Ace, he knew these spells pretty well given how often he's used them. Yes he's used the bubblehead charm often. Anybody who's stayed 5 minutes in the Gryffindors Boys' dorms would find it a necessary survival skill.
He practiced the Protego spell a few times, even trying out some of the stronger variations of it. Not quite as predictable as his regular Protego… but ey he can make them. Also he's learned quite a bit from going up against Senpai Auror at the Dueling Meeting, no matter how brief it was. There are people which much stronger spell casting than he can defend right now, and he needed to really step up the skill set.

Janelle copied down the list of spells from the blackboard. It was always nice to have options in a crazy situation. You never knew when your first choice may not be the best choice. Now she knew which spells they would be working on today. Janelle felt pretty comfortable with her ability to perform Protego, but she was never against a little extra practice. Practice made perfect. Besides, the more you practiced a spell, the more likely muscle memory might take over in a panicked situation. Not that she ever panicked mind you.
Taking out her wand, performed the movement that she knew by heart. "Protego", she said confidently. One area that she could always improve on was her concentration. You had to really focus with this spell or the shield would almost certainly fail you........and that would be very, very bad. Janelle continued to practice the spell, determined to keep going until it was time to move on to the next task.

There was nothing to copy. No notes to take down. Having been told upon entering the room earlier to leave her things against the wall that's what she had done. Which now meant she didn't have her parchment or quill. She could work on using accio to bring the items to her or at the very least her bag but she doubted that would go over well with so many others sitting around right now. Therefore at this point in time Hady choose to just sit and listen.
Listening went over well enough being as there wasn't anything new she would be learning today. Protego she knew. She had even used the strong versions of the spell a number of times. The bubble-head charm she knew also. Neither were very difficult. Her eyes roamed over the room to see what everyone else was doing. Spotting Brooklyn she watched her dorm mate a few moments a small grin forming on her face as she watched her cast what appeared to be a nonverbal. That was a good idea.
Deciding to follow suit Hady flicked her wrist slipping her wand from it's holster to the palm of her hand. Flexing her fingers around the smooth cool wood she rose to her feet. Nonverbals were something she had been working on quite a bit with Frankie over the last few weeks. Having a Mandrake leaf in ones month had been the little push the two of them had needed and together then had accomplished being able to cast a few different charms nonverbally. Raising her wand she preformed the movement she knew so well while focusing on the shield forming in her mind as she spoke the incantation in her head. A shield appeared but it wasn't strong enough to hold back much of anything. Allowing it to drop Hady prepared herself to try again.

Okay! So Harriet felt like she had practiced enough. Now it was time to get a partner. She looked up, having a think of who she wanted to partner up with. She didn't want to pick someone too much older than her because they would be better at charms than her, and probably get through her shield charm.
Ooh. She had found one. "Hi Tenacius!" The first year murmured as she came to stand by the second yeah. "Wanna be my partner?"

This was probably his leave favorite class of all. Actually divinations was but charms wasn't that far away. He wanted to understand charms and he wanted to be really good at charms but he wasn't and he didn't know what would really motivate him to be good. What were they talking about? Bradson was paying attention or at least he thought he was. He would have to go back and talk to Professor Baldy about charms when class was over. He needed to be better at this sort of thing.
The second year looked around at the class, he set his head down and continued to listen to what was being, even writing some little notes down so he would remember what they had learned today. He wanted to be good at this subject or decent. Without even realizing it his eyes began to close and he was starting to fall asleep. He was passed out and snoring loudly.

Scarlett was always interested in Charms class, even when there was a lot of talking and lecturing, because at SOME POINT they almost always got to do practical stuff. Like right now! Scarlett felt pretty confident in her abilities to make a shield - it couldn't be THAT hard, right? She was going to get this down right away, she was determined to - because knowing how these classes usually went, some fun (potentially dangerous) activity was probably in store once they all got through practicing!
She cleared her throat and took out her wand, performing the movement in front of her and shouting "Protego!" loudly and hoping that that did...something. It seemed like a little shield of something fizzled in front of her eyes for a few seconds and then, it disappeared. Ok, that was a start!
"Protego!" she exclaimed again. This time it went a little better, creating a very obvious shield for about...three seconds before it disappeared. This was EASY!

As Scarlett was getting more and more comfortable with this charm, she looked around to see who she might want to partner with - and noticed someone, a HUFFLEPUFF someone, SLEEPING. Not just sleeping, SNORING! Was he for REAL? She blinked a few times in surprise and then walked up to him, poking him in the arm with her wand.
"Oi! You're gonna lose us points!" she snapped at him - and in their current position, they really couldn't afford to lose ANY more. Or he might get detention! She didn't want that for anyone, because that could hardly be any fun. She was looking out for her housemates!

But then she realized she probably wouldn't have branched out as much as she had with meeting new people.... And being outside her comfort zone. Even if her father was still peeved about her being green she was pretty sure she hadn't even seen most of the wrath thanks to her mother.
Enough reminiscing though; Sky realized Esme had probably been standing there waiting for her longer than it should have taken her to respond. "Oh hey Esme! Yes of course ... But uh , can I do the shield charm cause I'm not sure about immobulous and it might be best to see you perform it first?" Just being honest here.
Esme smiled as she waited for Skylar to give the go head or not. Probably wondering if it was better or not to go against someone closer to her age range. Didn't matter too much though since there was no way that she would go hard against someone younger and especially not someone who was a part of the family.
There was absolutely no issue with using Immobulous first; in fact Esme had expected it since that was a harder spell to use than Protego. At least in her experience it was though of course she hadn't used it as often. There was that. "No problem!" she said as she moved what she considered to be a good distance away from her cousin so this could be done properly. This was going to be fun though her attention WAS distracted by a snoring Brady who was being told off by Scarlett. Really now. She was right about them losing points if he didn't wake up. Would probably lose them regardless because it would be surprising if Professor Primeaux failed to notice...
Jaemin stayed on the floor where he had placed himself, watching the spells appear on the board. Some of them he knew, some he didn't. The two the professor was going to be teaching today... were definitely in the former category, and Jaemin wrinkled his nose in distaste. Protego was a spell you did in Defence class... not here. Still, he lazily waved his wand and cast it once. Just once.
There. Practiced. Didn't need a partner to know his shield charm worked. He had been doing it since last year. Hopefully there would be... something. Anything. Of interest. Anything.

Still slightly frustrated that she hadn’t been just as successful at her attempt at the shield charm nonverbally, Brooklyn hadn’t been paying attention to any of the others. Of course, not until she’d happened to glance over at Hady to see her be much more successful at the same thing she had tried. That was irritating, but then she also knew her housemate and friend was possibly nearly at a Ravenclaw level with studying. That was the only thing that kept her from being entirely angry, although it didn’t change that she was disappointed in herself. It was a simple charm, which meant she shouldn’t be struggling with it even if she hadn’t exactly worked much with nonverbals before now.
However, in the not paying attention, she had also neglected to realize that someone had been watching her. Until they had suddenly inched closer, threatening to invade her personal space even. The thing that saved the boy was that she recognized him as a Slytherin, and also one of the few who had helped protect their castle in the lesson a few terms back. “I did,” she said simply. If he wasn’t going to comment on what she still continued to feel was a failure, she wasn’t going to either.

So they were doing the shield charm and the bubble head charm today? That sounded ambitious... and hard! From what Fiyero had heard, both of those spells were incredibly difficult, and he was just a first year. Hopefully it wouldn't take him the entire class to get it right!
He drew his wand and practiced the movement a few times. There, so far so good... Once he felt confident with the wandwork, he moved on to the pronunciation. "Protego," he muttered under his breath. "Protego. Protego." That was easier than he thought. Thank goodness that incantation wasn't a mouthful!
Okay, time to put the two together! "Protego!" he said, copying the wand movement he'd practiced. Was that it? Did he do it? It didn't look like anything happened. Somehow he doubted he got it right on the first try - that hardly ever happened to him! He decided to try again. "Protego!" He still wasn't sure if it worked. Maybe he needed to test it with a spell actually coming at him...
Fiyero's glanced around the room, but it looked like most everybody was already paired up with someone. "Does anybody need a partner?" he called out.

Janelle had practiced Protego over and over and now she deemed herself ready for the activity. First though, she had to find a partner. Looking around the classroom, she saw that most of the students had already partnered up. You would think by now that she would have learned the important lesson. Get your partner locked in first and then do whatever else you were required to do. Fortunately, she happened to see someone else who was busy practicing and seemed to be partnerless.
Janelle walked over to Hady and made her pitch. "Hey Hady, want to be partners?" Janelle had worked with the older Slytherin before and knew that she was a great person to work with. Hopefully they could team up once again. Besides, it was always good to work with an older student. So much to learn and that was a good thing.

Never mind though because it was best to not draw more attention to him than necessary, so Sky looked back over at Esme. "okay! I'm ready when you are!"
Focused and ready, the first year confidently cast "Protego!" and waited, hoping somehow it'd be strong enough tol protect her from Esme's charm, even if she doubted it would hold up... It might be a good enough deterrent ? Maybe ?

Patiently Esme waited for Skylar to be ready. She could still remember being a First Year and new to the whole magic thing. Of course there had been some 'accidents' when she was little but not too many and that was completely normal as far as she knew. At any rate it didn't take long for her partner to give the go ahead and put up a shield. Good to see that it appeared to be perfectly cast but they would know for sure in a moment or so.
Giving a nod, Esme performed the rather fancy wand movement - it always reminded her of mountains - while calling out, "Immobulus!" Watching the blue light, she waited to see if it would be successfully blocked or not.

He walked around the room and watched the students practice the shield charm. He noticed the ones that weren't doing what they were suppose to and eyed Jaemin a bit. "Are you more prepared with your shield the older students?" The older students were even practicing but a second year decided he had it perfect. This was a bit interesting. As he moved to the middle of the room he pulled his wand and using a spell they were taught in their first lesson he made a big yellow line down the center of the room.
That would be used for later......
"If you didn't put your belongings in the front of the room I would do so now. You will lose points if someone gets hurt because you didn't follow directions." Yes he was eyeing certain students that thought rules didn't apply to them. "If you are feeling ready with that, which I'm assuming most of you are. We will move on to the Bubble-head charm. Now with this charm you want to make sure you have a good seal against your neck. If you don't water or gasses can leak in. So with your wand you will want to make the circle around your head and then say Viseo Ebullio" He demonstrated to show them exactly what he was talking about.
"Alright just take ten or so minutes to practice this and then we are going to have some fun." He was actually excited for the activity and he hoped they would be too.
Was he... Jaemin looked up at the professor, clearly unenthused, and nodded. He was well versed in casting shield charms, thank you very much. It wasn't his job or responsibility to gauge the older students' abilities or confidence in their shield charms. They were all probably perfectly confident in it, realistically, but if they wanted to practice it more... well, that was up to them. He had no need to.
He also didn't really need to practice this one, considering how long he had spent learning and working on it from the previous term. Looking very pointedly at the man, he made the circle motion and flatly spoke the incantation. "Viseo Ebullio."
Aaaaaaaand bubble. Jaemin considered that enough practice and rested his wand in his lap again, humming softly to himself. Hopefully he had done enough that the professor wouldn't decide to set the room on fire.

Olly was watching, but the girl didn't do it again. She did eventually acknowledge him, but didn't say much. Was he bothering her? Did she not want to talk to him? Those thoughts briefly flitted through his mind but not for very long. Olly wasn't really one to think about those kinds of things. He just hoped he wasn't too annoying. "It was cool," he said, but left it at that.
Okay they were moving on now. Bubble head charm. That wasn't entirely unknown to him. He had looked at it and practiced it a few times but definitely wasn't as confident with it as he was with the shield charm. He'd just been practicing so he could swim under water for long periods of time. He wasn't confident enough to really test it out. This was one thing he was actually looking forward to practicing.
" Viseo Ebullio." He carefully made a circle around his head as she said the incantation. When he was done a bubble did appear around his head. He poked it gently with his wand. It rippled but did not pop. How would he know if it was good enough? He didn't want to find out too late that it was not quite secure.

Azura turned from Juno when the Professor spoke again, does this mean they didn't need partners anymore? She wanted to duel Juno. She turned a slightly sad face to her friend..
"If we partner up again, I'll be back all right?" She said with a warm smile as she stepped just a little bit away to give herself some room in order to practice the Bubblehead charm!
She was excited about this and she carefully started to practice the wand movement first, she made a circle around her head a few times, making sure that she didn't make the circle wonky or anything like that.
She wanted a good seal, lest it didn't protect her fully.. After she was sure she had the wand movement down.. She moved onto the incantation it's self..
"Viseo Ebullio, Viseo Ebullio, Viseo Ebullio." She carefully rolled around the words on her tongue a few times, getting a feel for the pronunciation and the emphasis on the different syllables..
Finally she combined the two to try out the spell for the first time, the young Ravenclaw moved her wand around her head and said "Viseo Ebullio!"

Ooh. She had found one. "Hi Tenacius!" The first year murmured as she came to stand by the second yeah. "Wanna be my partner?"
He had actually started to playfully cast the Bubble-head charm already, so second nature to him it was. He was just priming up his wand for when they would start to cover that spell.
But then he turned his head quickly at the sound of his very unique name. "Hey Hattie! Sure lets partner up." he said as he led the way where they could position themselves for the testing "I'm pretty confident with my Protego, so do you want me to go test your shield charm? I'll go easy I promise." Or go hard. Whichever Hattie can take he could likely dish out.

She hadn’t seen any reason to try to cast the shield charm again. Personally, Brooklyn didn’t like going over things she felt like she failed, although she knew that she wasn’t about to abandon the idea of learning how to cast nonverbals. She just wasn’t going to perform at one person’s request, being in a lesson notwithstanding. It was nothing against the Slytherin boy, she just was frustrated with herself and feeling like she didn’t want to try again. She’d given him a brief half-smile as he’d tried to compliment her failure, though. “Thank you.” She wasn’t completely rude, and he had complimented her…
But then the lesson had continued, and she had turned her attention to the professor as he’d drawn a line separating the two halves of the classroom and then gone on to discuss the bubblehead charm. All things she already knew, and she’d put her things at the front of the classroom. She hadn’t wanted to, but she did. He wasn’t going to lecture her on that, or anything at all apparently. Either way, she was still frustrated that they were learning spells she already knew, and she was fairly sure she’d proven that she knew the bubblehead charm already. Therefore, she decided to try to cast nonverbally again. She could always cast it normally before the activity started.
Moving her wand in a circle around her head, she tried to clear her mind of everything else and concentrated on thinking the incantation. Viseo Ebullio. Like with the shield charm, a bubble appeared around her head, but to her, it didn’t seem quite as strong as it could have been. IT was still there, though.

Watching Esme perform the other spell, well let's just say Sky was awe-struck. She'd seen her parents perform spells, albeit usually non-verbally and Logan and Grace and Hayley and Chloe among other adults. But this was different because Esme was only just a few years older than her and already so confident.
Had Sky been more focused on her protection charm instead of Esme's confidence, her shield charm probably would have been stronger but as such, her distracted mind let her guard down and that second well, Esme's immobilus charm collided with her shield charm effectively disarming it, but thankfully there to be hit instead of her. "Wow... Sorry! I got distracted but uh, how do you keep focus?" Her attention span wouldn't last long enough for a whole duel, clearly.
And they were moving on away from this partner exercise now and practicing the bubblehead charm!!

It wasn't so much that she needed the practice with either of these two spells but it was more like furthering her ability of being able to cast them differently. However it was looked at Hady had allowed the shield to drop before trying to cast it nonverbally once more. The result was the same as before, not as strong as it should be but very clearly there.
Having been focused on her nonverbal casting the sixth year heard the voice directed at her before she saw the person. Cancelling the shield she turned and smiled at Janelle. "Sure, it's been a little while since we've partnered up in class." She had worked with Janelle before and they got along well. Working together wouldn't be a problem.
Hardly moments after agreeing to be partners the professor began the next instructions. The bubble-head charm. Making a circle around her head with her wand she stated clearly, "Viseo Ebullio." The bubble was there and Hady just hoped it was the strength it needed to be for the activity they were going to do soon.

Harriet just beamed at the boy. she was glad that he wanted to be her partner. She really wanted to practice her shield charm. She was confident with it, but also knew that it didn't hurt to practice it. "Ooh. Yes. that sounds good!" Because it was actually really what she wanted to do. She wanted to make sure that she could do the charm well, otherwise she would need to practice.
Smiling she stood a few steps away, and pulled her wand out. She performed the wand movement whilst saying "Protego!" and she just hoped that her shield was strong enough.
