2 22 57 4 9 Melbourne hadn’t really said much of anything during the entire lesson. She was more intrigued by the concept of cursed urns. Looking around she watched as others began revealing their chain of numbers and began to prepare to cast her spells as well. “Arithos Revelio scindo” she cast as she moved her wand from the starting place with her wand pointed at the urn she cast her wand upwards and moved it in tighter and tighter circles. It only took a moment but it had appeared. “I did it!” She squealed happily as she looked up at the numbers on the urn in front of her. Sitting down on the floor she began writing on her notepad as a means to figure out what the curse was….this was fun – maybe curse breaking could be a fun gig? She did like ancient things after all. Still she was hoping she would get this right and not be a complete joke about it. |
~23 34 27 9 4 Sky listened intently as Professor Tanner reiterated the parts of a curse and then expanded more upon the numbers meaning list. At least she knew this spell and felt confident in her ability to perform this one. Checking her notes to just make sure had the incantation and wand movement straight in her mind, the young snake twirled her wand as she stated clearly, "Arithmos Revelio Scindo". And a moment later, as had happened before, numbers appeared in the air. Carefully, Sky jotted down the numbers next to each part of the spell and then plopped a seat down on the floor with her notebook to work them out... SPOILER!!: Sky's notes That basically meant that like last time, as long as she didn't attempt magic, she could counter it. Which meant touch was allowed. Personally she didn't really need to know WHAT the actual spell was, except that it caused warts and didn't need to worry about it as long as she didn't try to cast magic. Testing it tentatively, Sky reached her hand into the vessel.... |
Tiara began walking around the room, peering over shoulders and listening to any side conversations that may occur. Most of them has successfully made their numerizations occur, which was definitely a plus. She hadn't thought they would still struggle with that at this point, but some took longer to catch on to certain spells than others did. Tiara noticed that Skylar looked like she had made up her mind about something, so the professor noted the golden numbers above her pot and watched. Quote:
"Keep up the good work, everyone!" she called to the room. |
2 22 57 4 9 Melbourne began examining the curse her brow was furrowed as she looked down at the notes she had taken. She watched closely as Sky reached into hers and didn’t get hurt – so that was good for her. She looked down at the range and figured that the curse caused magical effects but was most likely triggered by human touch. Still even if she was wrong she was ready to face the consequences and get hit but a curse. It probably wouldn’t be the first or last time. Pointing her wand into the urn she focused and quietly cast her spell “accio fudge” she whispered nervously and hope that that had worked. SPOILER!!: notes |
2 7 15 4 4 Harriet wasn't the best at arithmancy. She would be the first to admit that. But she tried. She really tried, even if she wasn't too good at it. Hattie really wanted to be good at everything she did, so she was determined to get better at the subject. Even if it really was hard. She made quiet notes, wanting to write everything down, so that she could use it in the future. She listened carefully to what they had to do. So that she would know what to do during the activity. She knew that would make it easier, even if she knew she was going to find it hard too. But she would try her best to do good. First she needed to do the spell. Waving her wand, she performed the wand movement, before saying the words Arithmos Revelio Scind and the numbers appeared in the air. Perfect! now she could get onto the hard bit and try and work out what this all meant SPOILER!!: Hattie's notes Harriet felt a little bit stuck here. She'd worked out the first two bits, but now onto the last 2. Concentrating, she worked on the second two elements of the curse. |

Arielle had pulled out numbers so Noelle figured she would just go with them. Sitting on the floor beside, she wrote the numbers as well SPOILER!!: Noelles Notes And........ Now what?? Because Noelle never understand this curse breaking business with their numbers. |
2 7 15 4 4 All right, now it was time to figure out what all of these things meant.. Azura sat down near her urn and got out some parchment and a pen and started to write down her numbers and figure out the meanings.. SPOILER!!: Azura's notes Azura stared at her paper for a moment.. Oh goodness.. It was activated by both Verbal Expression and touch! Azura bit her lip a bit as she looked up at her urn.. So uhh.. Non verbal spell.. Well that was great.. She couldn't non verbal.. She studied her paper again to make sure she got it right and wasn't over Ravenclawing again.. Nope, 15, which mean.. Verbal Expression and Physical touch.. Right.. |
62 65 15 9 9 Jotting the numbers down in her notebook, Esme stared at them for a moment before beginning her attempt to work out what exactly she was dealing with. First thing that needed to be done was identifying the different parts of the curse and fortunately she remembered what they had been taught about this aspect. She added onto her notes: SPOILER!!: Esme's Notes Okay, so now she needed to figure out what curse causes tingling and shaking and then she could try out the counter-curse... non-verbally. |
23 34 27 9 4 Okay, more curse-breaking. Fiyero really hoped he'd be successful this time around (he'd come so close last time but ran out of time!) That Honeydukes fudge sounded tasty! He thought back to the other lesson, trying to remember the spell to make the numbers appear. Now what was it again? Oh yeah! "Arithmos Revelio Scindo!" he said, making a tight spiral with his wand. A sequence of numbers appeared, but they were too faint to make out. Oops, let's try that again! "Arithmos Revelio Scindo!" There, now he could see the numbers: Fiyero opened his notebook and copied down the numbers. Now he just had to figure out what they meant... Text Cut: Fiyero's notes |
2 7 15 4 4 Okay. So Hattie felt like she was doing an okay job. She wasn't the best at Arithmancy, but she knew if she tried her hardest, and took her time, she knew she'd be okay. She looked over the notes she had made so far, making sure that she had got them correct. She wanted to good, and that meant making sure that everything was correct. SPOILER!!: Hattie's notes so far she was pretty happy with that now. She was positive that she had gotten it correct. She just needed to get the last 2 bits of the curse ready now. She picked up her quill, and looked in her text book, looking at what the different numbers meant. It was still a little confusing, but she was trying her best! Nodding, she made her notes. SPOILER!!: Hattie's notes So. She had all her notes now. So she should have been able to break down the curse. Though she was still confused, even after breaking down the curse. She was kind of scared of testing it out too, because she really didn't want to get all sicky. She really wasn't sure what to do next. Obviously she didn't want to touch her urn, or say anything that would class as verbal expression. But she was only a firstie, and couldn't no non-verbal magic, which she figured might work. So... she was feeling a little stuck. She sighed, tilting her head to the side. She really did not know what to do now. Help? please? |
2 7 15 4 4 Azure looked back down at her notes to see if she missed anything and she bit her lip a little as she tried to puzzle out her numbers again. She wasn't happy about a few things and so.. She went back to her notes in an attempt to figure out what the counter curse was.. SPOILER!!: Az's updated notes Well, that worked out better, she thought, though she didn't exactly know a counter curse for Nausea and vomiting. But Professor Hirsch had said in the previous lesson that not every curse had an exact counter-curse. So.. The purple eyed girl stood up and took out her wand.. She had never actually done non-verbal magic before and she didn't fully know what spell she was going to use. Though if she were going by the meaning to the number 7, she would hazard a guess that the spell was going to stop magic. So she would try counter-curses to both those two things.. non-verbally.. Right.. This was going to be interesting.. Azura aimed her wand at the urn and she closed her eyes and cleared her mind as she thought hard about the counter-curse to feeling sick to your stomach.. or.. one like it.. She pointed her wand at the urn.. did the appropriate motion and thought about the spell, really really hard.. Her faced was almost pinched in concentration as she thought about the spell.. After a few minutes of concentrating.. she put her wand down and was panting a little.. Ugh..She didn't think she had gotten close to getting a spell out.. |
23 34 27 9 4 So far so good! Fiyero had gotten the numbers to appear a lot faster than he'd expected, but somehow he didn't think decoding the meanings of the numbers would go quite as quickly. He focused on the basis first. 23... Okay, so that meant humans and... house elves? That was weird. Maybe he was reading it wrong. Maybe the 3 meant complex thought instead. Which one was it? Why did he have such a a hard time understanding this stuff?! He didn't want to spend too much time on just one part, though, and decided to come back to the basis later if necessary. So now for the kernel... He went back over the list of number meanings, paying extra attention to the ones highlighted in red. So this spell caused painful pustules. That did not sound fun at all! Well, that part wasn't as hard as he thought! Now all Fiyero had to figure out was the range and cline. The range was 27, so that meant the spell was activated by human magic? Was that right? He couldn't think of anything else it could possibly be, so he decided to move on. The cline part was easy. He knew right away that 9 4 meant a complicated spell that takes affect immediately but doesn't last long and quickly jotted down his findings. Text Cut: Fiyero's notes |
62 65 15 9 9 Errr, could someone please help Esme because she was really lost right now??? Glancing back at her notes, the only thing that she accomplished was realizing that she had missed adding a part that related to everything that the curse would do to the victim. Realizing her error, she quickly filled that bit in: SPOILER!!: Esme's Notes Okay, soooooo she had quite a few things to worked with and the curse seemed to effect mental capabilities. Basically it effected the brain and made it hard to maintain balance and control the body. Esme had absolutely no idea what curse would cause this and as a result she had no idea what counter-curse could be used. Maybe there wasn't one and she had to just... use a spell that would strengthen someone; make them more alert, focused, and in control of their body. Imbalance WAS a lack of control after all. Wracking her brain for a few moments, she tried out the first spell that came to mind and would negate those bad effects. Non-verbally of course since speaking would activate the curse. Hopefully it would have worked though she was hesitant when she reached out towards the urn. |
23 34 27 9 4 Fiyero looked back over his notes to make sure he hadn't missed anything. Okay, so he was working with a short-lived spell that causes painful pustules... but which spell was it? He'd heard of one spell in dueling club that caused boils. Maybe that was it... but he had no idea what the countercurse was! He glanced at his notes again. Hold on a second... how was he supposed to perform the countercurse (if he ever figured out wch one it was) if the curse was activated by magic?! He thought for a minute. Wait, the spell was activated by magic, but it didn't say anything about touch. So in theory, he could just reach into the urn and get the fudge. Hmm... he wasn't sure about this. He didn't like the idea of getting painful pustules if he was wrong, even if Professor Tanner had an antidote! Fiyero took a deep breath. Okay, here goes nothing! He quickly reached into the urn and pulled out a pack of Honeydukes fudge. He nervously looked at his hand, waiting for pustules to appear, but nothing happened. So far so good... surely if the pustules hadn't appeared by now, that meant he was going to be alright. "Whoa, I did it!" he said, triumphantly holding up his pack of fudge. |

2 7 15 4 4 Azura sighed softly as she looked at her wand and then at the urn.. She had been trying hard to do the non verbal counter-curse, but she just didn't think it was working. Even though she did pretty well with magic, at least verbal magic..This was a bit beyond her skill level. The Ravenclaw had done some pretty lofty magic before, even on the first or second try.. and she wasn't going to give up so easily! She took a deep breath and slowly started to center herself, emptying everything from her mind except for the name of the spell she was trying to perform! She started to concentrate as she thought about the spell, and did the appropriate wand motion.. But again,it seemed like nothing happened.. She sighed, but tried one more time! Holding up her wand and concentrating hard as she attempted to to non verbal magic.. |
Sorry I wasn't on yesterday, guys. My internet was SUPER finicky. :-( Text Cut: Melbourne Oh dear. That was not good. The second year had triggered the curse, and now blisters from burns were showing up on her hands and arms. That had to be painful. "Coming, Miss Johanson!" Tiara called, while grabbing a small vial of antidote. "Here you are, drink the lot straight away." She let the girl have a moment before addressing the incident. "The curse is triggered by magic.." Tiara peered at her notes. "You have the 7 noted, but you just did not pick up on the magic part, I suppose. No harm done, keep trying!" Text Cut: Hattie After Melbourne was sorted out, Tiara continued to circle the room. Next she came to Hattie. "How are things going, Miss Paton?" she queried. A quick glance at the girl's notes made the professor's head nod in approval. At least she had a good start. Text Cut: Esme Tiara was watching Esme. She could tell the girl was trying a nonverbal spell based upon the look on the girl's face. As she was only a fourth year, Tiara wasn't sure if she could pull it off. Indeed, she looked hesitant when she reached out for the jar. But as soon as she did, her hand appeared to shake slightly. "Miss Darcy, I think you are on the right track and your counterspell just needs to be stronger. I know nonverbals are hard, but you can do this!" It had already proven to be pretty effective, after all. "Give it another go!" Of course, that would be hard if your wand arm was shaking, but the antidote potion could wait for such a mild tremor. Text Cut: Fiyero "Excellent, Mister Jones!" she beamed down at the first year. "Enjoy your reward! But try not to eat it all in one go, alright?" she quipped, winking playfully. Text Cut: Azura Hmm. Azura looked about ready to perform nonverbal magic, if her stance was any indication. The girl was only in her second year, so Tiara wasn't exactly sure how great that would go. "How is it going, Miss Kennedy?" |

She was concentrating more when she heard the Professor come up by her and she put her wand down and smiled a little bit. "It's going all right Professor, I'm attempting a non verbal spell, to get the urn to open, but at the moment.. I don't think it's working. I'm going to keep trying though." She said with a nod as she took a deep breath before turning back up to the Professor.. "Any pointers for doing a non verbal spell?" She asked curiously. She had never done this.. so anything the Professor could tell her would be helpful. |
2 7 15 4 4 SPOILER!!: Professor! Harriet looked up as she heard a voice. Oh It was the Professor. "Uh... I think I've got the curse decoded okay Professor...." Hattie murmured, as she motioned to her work before looking back up at the Professor. "But... I think the curse is activated by touch, and verbal expression. Which I think indicates a non-verbal spell? But I can't do that cause I'm not that magically advanced yet" Which made he kind of think it could mean something else too. "So... maybe It's not just a non-verbal spell. But I'm not really sure..." And so she was feeling a little stuck. |
62 65 15 9 9 Honestly Esme wasn't in the least bit surprised when her hand began to shake slightly. The curse was taking effect but then she wasn't very experienced with nonverbals as a Fourth Year. At least she was doing better than poor Melbourne. That HAD to hurt. Fortunately she was being given an antidote. Esme's would come later but for now she was going to try again with Professor Tanner's encouragement. Giving the woman a smile, she nodded. Yes, she could do this though it was important to keep focus. It always was. Taking a deep breath, she put her game face on. She COULD do this. She WOULD do this. Full of confidence, Esme put all of her might into performing the spell nonverbally. Her hand reached towards the urn once more but she didn't hesitate as much this time; not like she hadn't already felt the effects of the curse. They were quite mild and she would live. |
Text Cut: Azura Aha. "Yes, in fact. Ask someone that has mastered the art to perform it for you!" Like herself, perhaps? "What were you going to do?" As in, what was she going to counter? Text Cut: Hattie Tiara nodded in agreement as she listened to the girl's explanation. "No, you are right on target. It is just a bit advanced for you yet, you are correct." And would be for several more years, in fact. "But if you describe what you would like to do, I can do it for you." Text Cut: Esme Tiara clapped her hands at the result of Esme's next try. "Good on you, Miss Darcy. Well done." It really was quite an achievement for a fourth year! OOC: The lesson will close later tonight (EST). |

She smiled up at Professor Tanner, "Could you help me out then Professor? I was trying to counter the nausea and vomiting.." She said with a nod. Countering the side effects would therefore negate them and then she could open it no problem.. Mostly at least.. |
This time as her hand reached into the urn, Esme's hand didn't start to shake more. Nope, instead she was greeted with some yummy maple fudge. Awesome! Not only had she won something but it wasn't chocolate. That was a double victory in her book. AND she had managed to do nonverbal magic on top of that. Wow. "Thank you, Professor!" You know... for the encouragement and the fudge. Now she just needed to get that antidote so stop the shaking as it was pretty annoying and she would be all set. Smiling, she took a bite out of her fudge. |
2 7 15 4 4 SPOILER!!: Professor! Aah. So she was right! That made her feel a little better. She was happy that she had gotten it right. Did that mean that she was getting a little bit better at Arithmancy. She really liked that because it meant she was actually learning something. But now she figured that she needed to work out what she wanted the Professor to actually do. "Well..." She murmured with a smile. "The curse causes Nausea and vomiting. Which she really did not want to cause to happen to the Professor. "So... I believe you'd need to use a non-verbal counter curse to stop the Nausea and Vomiting from happening" |

"Okay, that is all the time we have! The bell should ring any moment, so collect up your things!" That had been fun, and she had seen a lot of improvement over the initial lesson. OOC: So my internet was down again last night. *sigh* I'll close the thread in a bit once you all have said your goodbyes. |
