Once you've made your entrance, you can choose which table to sit at from the wide central walk space running up to the staff dais. The floor has been polished over the summer to a sheen so shiny that you can see your own appearance in it. Awesome!

It was a wonder he had any appetite left but after skipping out on most (all...really all) of his breakfast even his stomach had stopped feeling bad for everything that was to come. He wanted food, proper food that would make him feel full 'cause he'd missed out on that the night of the feast.
Don't get him wrong, he wasn't regretting it, he was simply hungry and nothing more.
As he entered the Great Hall, the boy kept his gaze firmly fixed on the Gryffindor Table. It lessened his chances of running into one of those Prefects he definitely didn't want to see.
Oh look! They had grilled cheese!

Getting on his tip toes, he could get a better glance at the entire table--it was important to know where to sit to get all the good stuff without having to stretch and ask someone to pass him stuff. No way, they had the little cupcakes with all the chocolate on 'em!
Oh hey wasn't that Katherine?
He hadn't seen her much since the feast the night before at the feast. Had she been under the table too? It wouldn't have surprised him. She didn't seem nearly as fiery as that one Ravenclaw that stormed over to the Gryffindor table despite her Prefect's warning just to deck him with mash and gravy.
"Hey Katherine!" He said, managing a proper smile; one of his few since Airey blew up. "The cupcakes any good?" The boy plopped into a seat at his own table, close enough to be able to talk to her 'cause he remembered Julie taking to her so quick and offering to let him be her friend.

The troublemaker whom she had promised to help love the castle to, was not only talking to her, but he was also smiling!
"Hi," she managed and tried to smile back. She was conflicted. Her own mother had told her to stay away from exactly this type, and she would never disobey her mother. Mothers knew. On the other hand, she HAD made a PROMISE, and she didn't want to break that. But... maybe this was PRECISELY what he had mentioned at the station! Maybe he didn't want to be a troublemaker. Maybe he only didn't like the castle because he had got in a lot of trouble. She could certainly help with that! Okay, he must have hinted at that - but of course, he couldn't speak clearly while Julie and his parents were around. Fear not, Blaise! This girl knew what she was doin' when it came to rules and success.
Now she could smile properly.
"Yes," she said as she took a few steps towards him but stood on her feet - she didn't know if she was allowed to sit or if she wanted to sit in the first place, "omelette too. House elves are great cooks." She paused. "Are you okay?" As in, did he get a detention now? She had no idea how punishment worked here.

If there was any reservation on her part, it was completely missed by the boy who was now reaching for things to pile on his plate. She would come over, right? They could talk even though it seemed she'd already finished her meal.
Omelettes for lunch was never going to be a no for him so he began piling those on his plate too. The food acquiring only stopped at her question. That was when his shoulders visibly sank and at first he didn't know what to say. Was he okay? Was he really? "For now I am, I guess." Blaise reached for his goblet and took a long drink of his pumpkin juice, just trying to clear his head.
"In any case, we're not sorry and they got what they deserved and it's a long time before Christmas break so I don't have anything to worry about yet." But when that time came, he had no doubts he was gonna get the worst of it after that owl his Head of House had sent his parents.
"What about you? Never saw you during the fight. Were you under the table too?" Practically all of Ravenclaw was under the table; an unimpressive act to be sure. Merlin was he glad he'd never been sorted there. It was just a little food.

Katherine was a firm believer in justice and she usually despised people that caused chaos, but this one time she felt bad and sorry for him. He sounded so sure - sure that violence was the answer. She looked softly at him. She was conflicted: she shouldn't feel sympathy at all for such people, but he was... different. He was friend. He was the big brother of Julie. She sighed in the end as she shifted her weight to the other leg.
"Yes," she said, "why do you say they deserved it? Who are they and what did they do?" She was going to solve this, but she needed to know things.

Figures she'd have been under the table. Even the Hufflepuffs sat where they were but the Ravenclaws had beat a hasty retreat. No fighting back, no...anything. Did it make him feel bad for them? As if they were nothing but poor victims caught in the midst of things? No. It was just food. No one died, no one left with broken bones. No one choked on the mashed potato. All that happened was them nailing the soddy Prefects and others having fun if they allowed themselves to.
"They were really rude to my cousin--the ones in your house, the Prefects." Surely she knew by now who he was referring to. "They were right awful jerks to him and it upset him. I'd have done the same if someone picked on you or Julie." Because you didn't mess with his friends and family. It didn't work like that.
"Doesn't matter why I did it, I guess. My Head of House labelled us bullies anyway and decided the Prefects are always right no matter what." The faintest of smiles graced his face then, though it was anything but happy. "I guess that's why we didn't try telling a Professor in the first place. They'd just brush it off like Professor Airey did."
So again, no, he was NOT sorry--but he would have to pretend to be at Christmas. Ahem.

This was getting tiring, the standing, but he didn't invite her to SIT by him, so it really wasn't allowed for her to sit, right? And anyway, this was too important to ask silly questions. She had to help her friend.
Who was being cute by saying he'd have done the same for her or Julie.
Okay, she HAD to help him; not shun him just because he threw a little bit of food at the prefects. So she listened attentively, and when he put things like that... it did sound like he was the victim here. Sort of. She felt bad for him, and a sense of injustice towards Professor Flamsteed. Frowning deeply, she said "But still, don't you think talking would have been better? Now you just made it worse. Now, no one really will never believe you." She was genuinely concerned for him, y'know? "Maybe you should talk to Professor Flamsteed again to explain yourself." If he wanted, she would even go with him.
She... wisely kept it to herself that in her opinion, prefects and professors were almost always right. She really didn't think the prefects had been rude to him and his cousin, but for the sake of the argument, better to act like she believed him. Such innocent lies hurt nobody, said her mum.

It crossed his mind to ask why she was still standing but somewhere deep down he figured that if she'd wanted a seat she would have taken it. This was the Great Hall, sitting was usually allowed, permission was the last thing on his mind. Kinda like all the times he decided to eat with Davie at the Ravenclaw table instead of his own last year.
Blaise was almost done chewing his next bite when Katherine began to sound suspiciously like the Professor and Amur. What honestly made her think talking would make a difference?
"What would that have done?" He asked, genuinely curious to know her take on the matter. Maybe it was just a Gryffindor thing, but it physically pained him to think such an injustice would go on. It literally hurt to entertain the idea of going to the Professor just to have him tell them 'sometimes words hurt, don't do it again'. What was the point? It wouldn't make them feel better after. At best the Prefects would give a false apology just to leave then continue with their lives. This way, they'd remember for a long time and they'd remember the next time they thought to be rude.
"I'm done talking to the Professor. I don't want to hear any more of what he has to say if all he has to say is that we're bullies who should have used words instead." It was a lost cause. "That doesn't matter either though, my parents are coming at the end of the week, we're gonna have a meeting. If he didn't understand then, he won't now."
He paused, giving her a once over before continuing with all the interest in the world. "Why are you standing?"

Katherine sighed. It was obvious Blaise had lost all faith in -
Wait, standing?
She looked perplexed for a moment. "Why, can I sit down at your table?" The way he said it implied so, and come to think about it... she did remember seeing people from other houses during the Feast. She obviously wasn't fully comfortable, but she did sit down next to him, and internally prayed that no one would call her out.
"I still don't believe violence can ever be the solution," she said, "but it sounds like I can't change your mind on that, for now at least. So," she sighed, "I hope... your parents will see your point of view too." She paused. "Do you still hate the castle?" He remembered her promise to him, right?

Was it violence? Was it really? The boy didn't think he'd get very far arguing the case with her and so, as he'd done with Airey, he simply decided to drop the matter entirely. "People sit at other tables all the time. I think the only time they really mind is at feasts and special events and stuff." Perfectly free to sit as she'd just done.
The faintest smile appeared on his face at her question. The caslte. Wasn't that a question. "I've never hated it more." If he didn't have friends here, the boy would have been downright miserable--and to think he still had the rest of the year to go. "A part of me kinda wishes something would happen that'll force them to send us home but then I think...they'll just make us go to school somewhere else til it's fixed and that won't solve my problem." Nothing would, not at the rate this term has started and seemed to be going.
"But what about you? What'd you think of the place so far?"
He cut into his omelette, willing to keep the conversation simple.

Oh? Good to know. Also good to see that Blaise had dropped the topic too. Katherine had to solve this in another way - like maybe by going to Professor Airey. Actually... she would do that as soon as she was done with Blaise.
It was SO great to have a sound plan!
She looked genuinely concerned for him when he said he'd never hated it more. This was terrible, wasn't it? She sighed. She WAS going to make him love here.
"I didn't like the food fight," she said directly, it wasn't anything he didn't already know anyway, "and I hated the charms lesson." Her face was blank for a split second as she tried to control her fear. That had been... quite an experience. "And there's a girl that gets on my nerves in my dorm and another Gryffindor boy that's rather rude, but - the rest is fine, I suppose. Astronomy was alright, for example. I don't hate here."Yet. Would she ever hate the castle like he did? She hoped not.
"What are your plans now?" If he invited her, she would join.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
She was one of the few he'd heard saying that. Up to this morning, he was getting smiles and people telling him how fun it was. There was even this Firstie that shot him and Bentley two thumbs up when he saw them--didn't even KNOW the kid but he seemed to know them and approve. Blaise wouldn't hold it against her though. She hadn't done anything but probably left the hall with gravy in her hair anyway. One couldn't expect EVERYONE to be happy.
"I hated Charms too. I hated all of it and I'm never going back." His most defiant look crossed his face then, as he informed her of that bit of his term. "It should be fine. The Professor said 'there's the door, don't come back' and that's exactly what I plan to do." Not go back. It was fine. He'd done it all of last year too, attending all of two lessons for the entire year and managing in his other classes.
"A girl in your dorm? What makes her get on your nerves? Is she bothering you?" Not that he supposed it made a difference. Surely Katherine would ask him to tell a Professor and leave it at that.
And a rude Gryffindor. Merlin what had her luck been since she got off the train? "Do I know the Gryffindor?" His shoulders rose in a small shrug. "My plan is to avoid what makes me unhappy, so magic, and spend time doing what I like." Sure that also meant skipping Transfiguration but sacrifices had to be made. His education or his sanity.

She listened to him in confusion. Oh. Ooooooooooooooh, Blaise Blaise Blaise. He was in more trouble than she'd thought. But was he not worried for his future? Without charms, he had... about no chance to be a good wizard. Could he not see that? More importantly, could she make him be good at magic?
"What about the OWLs?" she asked. She had to come up with a creative way to convince him that magic was his friend, not his enemy.
She looked angry at the talk of the girl. "Haddie," she hissed, "She's Haddie Denaker. A first year, naturally." Since she was in her dorm. "She has NO respect for the rules, she is a complete troublemaker and she calls me Mossy. Mossy!" She might have screamt the last part in indignation. CLEARLY she was so SO angry at that. "And the boy's Torrance Spades." Her nostrils flared. She was trying her best to keep her anger in check. "He - he's probably worse than Denaker in disrespect. Though he calls me just Kate." For which she probably should be grateful of *insert a hysteric laughter here* "He speaks with a bad language and is just so careless." Blaise probably knew him. Ugh.
Anyway. These two were not worthy of her attention.

Food.
The need for food that wasn't currently sour candies or chocolate was what brought Hady up from the dungeons. She had currently reached her fill of chocolate frogs and well all other sweets for the time being. What she needed now was a decent lunch and a freshly made cup of coffee.
Pushing the strap of her bag up more firmly onto her shoulder and tucking a lock of hair behind her ear she stepped into the Great Hall. Her hazel eyes swept over the room and each table looking for Frankie so they could sit together for lunch.

They had a lunch date, Hady and him did. And thank Merlin for that! Classes, studying for OWLs, doing all of the prefect things, and so on were all starting to pile up, which caused Frankie to have less and less energy as the day progressed. Food, sleep, and the occasional Invigoration Draught were the only things that kept him going these days. Plus Hady. Hady always made his day better.
When he arrived to the Great Hall, the blond was not surprised to see that his girlfriend had arrived before him. To be fair, she had less distance to walk than he did. All those stairs from the seventh floor always managed to slow him down, especially when they decided to move on him. But he was finally there, and, instead of making a loud entrance, he quietly approached the female snake like a lion about to pounce.
Now standing directly behind her, he suddenly wrapped his arms around her and gave Hady a gentle squeeze. Surprise! "Hello, beautiful."

Once. Twice. Her eyes swept over each table in turn as she looked for the blonde in question who it appeared wasn't there just yet. No problem. She would just wait for him. Coming from the Gryffindor tower took longer then it did to come from where she had.
Hady gave a small gasp in surprise as rather suddenly there were arms around her. The surprise faded quickly turning into a bright smile realizing it could only be one person. "Hello," she greeted warmly leaning back against his chest lightly and tipping her head back just a bit to look up at him. "Get lost on your way down here?", she teased. He had arrived after her.

Yes, this was definitely much better then studying for OWLs or patrolling the halls. Hady and the presence of food was really all he needed in life. Simple, delightful, no high-stakes testing. The quicker fifth year was over, the better.
He smirked at her small gasp, more than pleased with himself. The blond's arms around Hady came closer together as she leaned against him, his smirk now in sight with her tipping her head back ever so slightly. Frankie planted a small, quick kiss on the top of her head while she greeted him, only to be followed by one of his trademark eye rolls when the brunette started teasing him about getting lost. "The stairs thought it'd be fun to move on me."
A loud, low rumble then came from the Gryffindor's stomach. A quiet chuckle escaped his mouth as he let go of Hady (no excessive PDA here, nope) and gestured toward to tables of food. "So which table are we going at eat at?" Gryffindor or Slytherin? Or dare they attempt sitting at the staff table? Heh.

The smirk on his face was plain cute and it earned him a smile from her when she saw it. His way of greeting hadn't at all been expected but she wasn't complaining about his arms being around her. That would have been stupid of her. "Ah, blaming the stairs hmm?" she joked laughing softly. The stairs really were a pain in the behind more often then not. She'd lost count of how many times she ended up somewhere other then her intended goal due to them moving around on her.
A low rumble was heard and being in the boyfriends arms she knew it was his stomach alerting them that food was needed. She grinned at his laughter sidestepping to the left when she was let go, her fingers brushing his lightly as normal when they were stood side by side. Swinging her gaze out over the tables before them a choice had to be made. A simple one he needed not ask but he had. "My table of course," she replied smoothly with her usual grin in place. She never sat anywhere else. Well maybe she would. For him.
Was he up for sitting with the snakes or did he want to join his house this time? Either way she would be at his side.
