| | The Bronze Knocker
If you've reached the seventh floor corridor, then you have almost reached the Ravenclaw Common Room... assuming you know where it is.
At the top of a spiral staircase is a door without a doorknob or keyhole but a bronze knocker in the shape of an eagle. In order to enter the Ravenclaw common room, a person must answer a riddle asked by the eagle knocker; if they answer incorrectly, they must wait for someone else who gets it right. This might lead overconfident non-Ravenclaws to believe that they could break into the common room at any time, but then they would have over-exerted themselves climbing all the way up there only to be made to feel stupid by a simple door knocker.
If you're waiting on a friend, you can have a seat on the staircase leading up to the knob-less door and feel grateful that you don't have to walk all this way every day just to go to bed.

| Roro! ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls Katherine had been completely disappointed by how some of the students acted last night (thankfully, very few Ravenclaws were involved), but this didn't mean the castle ITSELF wasn't awesome. Besides, she needed to learn it ASAP not to be late to any class (she'd probably cry and faint on the spot if she ever missed one). And what better spot to start learning other than the door of her very own common room, right? Right! After breakfast and before the first class, she took a notebook, a quill and got out to draw a map of the school. Except... how did the Hat speak yesterday, how did this knocker which was supposed to be INANIMATE came up with a different riddle every. single. time!?
Hopefully, no one would get out of the room in the next few minutes or else, they might hit this one first year who was kneeling (lady-like) to examine the bronze thing. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: TBD Gryffindor Hogwarts RPG Name: Zara H. Bunbury-Foster Slytherin Fifth Year | Professor Pink | Mrs. Bruce Wayne | I'm on a Goat | Glitterpuff | Dumbledore's Defense Squad | BHB Having a small break between classes, David thought he might pop into his dorm and get something nifty and then come back out and go outside, but he got a bit distracted from all those plaaaaaans because----
"What are you doing?" Davie paused beside the first year, suddenly suspicious of her intentions with the bronze knocker. It wasn't difficult to figure out its riddles, except that one time it asked him about turtles last year, but that was neither here nor there. THE IMPORTANT THING WAS.... "Do you need help?" To solve it? Because he remembered what being a first year was like, even though that had been AAAaAAAAaAages ago...

| ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls Katherine JUMPED as if she was caught red-handed while doing something wrong. Maybe the boy didn't mean it so, but it SOUNDED so and she was suddenly aware of her own ignorance. Maybe she wasn't ought to inspect an object, even though she'd memorised ALL the rules and nowhere did it suggest -
Oh. Did she need help? "I - no, I was just inspecting it because I was curious about the magic." She could go though if she was supposed to be doing something better. |

Oh. Did she need help? "I - no, I was just inspecting it because I was curious about the magic." She could go though if she was supposed to be doing something better. Hmm, she was just curious. David accepted that answer with a small shrugging of his shoulders. "It's just charmed to ask a riddle of anyone who tries to enter. Even if you get it wrong, at least you thought about it, and tried to learn something." See? Ravenclaws liked learning. She probably knew that part though, considering she was a housemate of his, and not one who had thrown food at the feast.
"Are you new to magic?" That was his polite way of asking if she were a Muggleborn. Ravenclaw seemed to have a lot of Muggleborns this term! It was kinda neat.

| ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls Well, see, Katherine was curious on the 'just' part - how could an OBJECT be just charmed to come up with a new riddle? It... HAD to have a brain part or something of a very bright Ravenclaw (Maybe Rowena Ravenclaw herself!) like the Hat to test the students who were supposed to be the brightest. But it sounded like the boy himself wasn't that much interested (maybe he'd already found out the answer?) so Katherine would go check the Library by herself later.
She stepped towards him a little not to look rude and to show that she was done with it. "My dad is a wizard," she said simply. Though, to the observant ear, it would also reveal that he wasn't a very good wizard, and that she clearly hadn't learnt much from him. "I'm Katherine Moss," she said, because she didn't want to talk about his dad's or her magical ability and knowledge right now. She held out her hand to shake and smiled at him. |

He shook her proffered hand politely. "Katharine, nice to meet you. I'm David Truebridge. Second year." And since she was new, he thought he would ask the obvious, usual question. "How are you finding Hogwarts so far?"

| ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls So, he clearly didn't know the name Moss. Katherine wasn't sure if this was better or worse. On one hand, being related to the infamous Dolohovs wasn't good in this era at all, but she also wanted the world to know that she belong to a great wizarding family (of the most terrible kind, yes, but still a great one). Well, she would make a name 'round these parts of the world soon, she was determined, so for now she decided that it was better to be unknown. "Are you related to the former Headmistress, Ms. Anastasia Truebridge?" she asked with an awe in her tone. If he was a son of an old headmistres... then she and he were going to be friends, just so he knew.
Her? "Aside from the chaos," she wrinkled her nose, she clearly wasn't a fan of that, "I quite like it. It's just as I'd imagined - everything's so magical." She giggled at her own pun. "It's also quite a big castle, so I decided to draw a map of key places not to get lost." She then showed him her little notebook and quill. "I'm sure you're bored by now, but would you like to come?" |

"I'm sure you're bored by now, but would you like to come?" Ah, crap-- or rather, carp, as Haddie would say. Holy carp! Here was a kid who either read the papers, read a lot in general, or actually WAS a pureblood first year who just didn't talk about her mum. Dangit. "Yeaaaaaaaaaaah," David replied slowly, and a bit awkwardly. He didn't pick up on the girl's tone because he wasn't that good at reading people yet. "She retired from teaching just before I started here." And GOOD THING, too? Right? Because wouldn't it be weird if your mum was ALSO the Head of the school? Ha... ha ha...
David smiled at the girl, secretly grateful he had gotten her talking about the school year so far. "That doesn't usually happen at dinnertime. It was the first food fight I've ever seen!" But he was only twelve, so that might not have been saying much. He nodded at her pun in appreciation and then took a long look at the handdrawn map.
"Sure." Should he inform her that the school already had made a map which they occasionally handed out? ...nah. "I'm not doing anything. Maybe I can be of help to you." So yes, he would come with. He didn't really need whatever was inside the dorm anyway.

| ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls Katherine had hoped the boy would tell her HOW he was related to Mrs. Truebrigde (his aunt? or mum?), but he didn't say it. She was going to assume... mum, for the way he put it. "Too bad for you," she said with a small smile, "but I bet you still get to be... more friendly with professors than the rest of us." Because, sure, the woman might be retired now, but she still must have an influence on people? If not for the fear of losing their spots here, they would at least be more amiable for the old days' sake. She wished her relatives were in the school too, or at higher points at least, but - no, it didn't matter. That would be cheating, and she wouldn't cheat.
Yeah, but maybe that's because he was... what, second? third? year. Still, she was going to believe him. "I hope it never happens again," she said in a distressed tone, and then smiled brightly when he agreed. She was going to have a company! "I don't know anywhere, so you can take me to the places you think are important." No, that was a lie. As someone who had read Hogwarts: A History two times plus writing down everything her dad could remember about the castle, she KNEW all that could be known from outside the castle, but such small lies hurt nobody. |

As someone who had read Hogwarts: A History two times plus writing down everything her dad could remember about the castle, she KNEW all that could be known from outside the castle, but such small lies hurt nobody. Ha, too bad for him. That got another small smile out of David. "Eh, sometimes. I know the ones she hired, but a lot of them left last term." He had been looking forward to bothering Culloden for AT LEAST six terms, as an example, but he supposed that guy was as old as his mum (you could tell from his hair). So he was allowed to retire. Dakest, though, he shouldn't have left. Grrrr.
Anywaaay. Miss Moss seemed nice enough and he approved that she disapproved of the food fight. He'd just been reading on or under the table the entire time anyway. It didn't SEEM like he'd missed much, besides the Gryffindors losing a ton of points.
"Well, that's a tricky task," David chuckled. Did she know how big this school REALLY was? "Important how? Places which you need to know to get to class on time or early?" She seemed like the early-to-class type, like him. "Or places you should know because they're important if you need to hide something or stay hidden yourself? Or places which are historically important because Hogwarts has been such a boon to wizarding history, particularly in the last century or so?"
He blinked from behind his specs and waited patiently for Katharine to decide which level of importance she wanted most.

| "Culloden" ;_; ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls Katherine said a small "Oh." Of course - she should have guessed from the long list of new professors during the feast. She nodded. Oh well. They were on the same page then, sort of. Hehe.
Ooooooooh, of course! Important how? Katherine LIKED David, quite a lot, because he seemed to be a thinker like she was. He needed to know what kind of important she meant. She giggled. "I've already read the Higwarts: A History," she said, "so we can cover history later." Granted he still wanted to be her friend, but they'd see about that later. "Places important for you. Like... for example, This spot on the grounds is the best place you can make a snowman on. Or best spot to have fun - good type of fun," she was sure he knew what he meant, so she didn't elaborate, "best place to cry, best place to view the lake or forest or castle... That sort of thing." Everyone could direct her to classes. She wanted HIS opinion and favourite places - unless they were too personal. |

Everyone could direct her to classes. She wanted HIS opinion and favourite places - unless they were too personal. "Finally!" David exclaimed, upon hearing that Katharine had read Hogwarts, a History. "I encounter far too many students around our age--- and older ones, in fact---- who haven't done the basic reading of Hogwarts, a History. One would think that before attending such an established wizarding institution, one would want a little bit of background, no?" He chuckled lightly as though that WEREN'T the dorkiest thing that had ever been said by a second year. "I can forgive the Muggleborns, but those of us with wizard parents..." he sighed and shook his head, clearly grateful Katherine had done the reading.
Now that that bit of admiration was out of the way, Davie took a second to think of some places, tapping his finger on his chin as he thought. He did like how Katherine had narrowed her definition of 'important,' and in fact, this was a more fun way to do things anyway. "Okay. The first place I can think of is just down this hallway a little bit. I like this location because number one, it's one of Hogwarts' worst-kept secrets. Number two, it's like the most 'living' part of Hogwarts, or so I think of it. And number three, even though I had a detention there last year --- and it WASN'T MY FAULT, about the detention, in case you were wondering --- I made a really good friend in the process. So if you spot an old tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy trying to teach trolls ballet, you'll know you're in the right place..."
Did she know what he was hinting at? Davie started down the corridor toward that very portrait, and beckoned Katherine to follow him there.

It wasn't every day you found a note in your pocket from Rooney Bronwyn saying he had done ALL YOUR HOMEWORK.
????
Charlotte was torn about this. First of all, YAY SHE WOULDN'T HAVE TO DO HOMEWORK. Second of all, did Rooney think she wasn't SMART ENOUGH to do homework? Third of all, was this some kind of TRAP? What if it wasn't Roo at all? Fourth of all, what was a friend discount? Did that mean she had to PAY for the homework that she didn't ask for?
Also, if she was being honest, she had SORT OF BEEN avoiding Roo for reasons. It was safer. Because if she didn't, then later when she talked to Suri, Suri would ASK HER if she did things, and Char wasn't sure how to tackle ALL THAT yet, and her conversation with Daxton hadn't helped at ALL and she hadn't practiced like Phillip had said and she was still short even if Henry said her legs were nice and GOSH HER LIFE WAS SO HARD!
So, was she supposed to be glad or mad about this homework thing? She chewed on her split lip as she made the short trek to the Ravenclaw common room and decided she would choose about being mad or glad depending on what Rooney actually said. That was a good plan.
.... also would he notice her make up?

.... also would he notice her make up? Tick, tock. Roo checked his pocket watch a few times and was furious that the minute hadn't changed each time. Was his watch broken? He gave the face a few taps and sighed with relief when the second hand passed the 12 and the minute hand moved. F I N A L L Y!! And ever better still, there was Miss Charlotte! A smile bred across his face and he lifted a hand to wave in greeting. "You came." Way to state the obvious, Bronwyn. Now...he couldn't just lean across and give her a hug, because that was weird. And he hadn't been around her much recently - whether that was him or her, he wasn't sure.
Instead he looked everywhere but her eyes, because that was when he got very distracted and said very silly things. Her cheeks first... "Have you been outside?" They had a little rosy hue, and he wanted to make sure she hadn't been out without a coat. He didn't want her to end up with the flu or a cold or just snot. That would make everything that little bit more impossible. His gaze drew to her lips next. Honest, he was just looking anywhere... And then he squinted. "I didn't see you and Miss Chloe brawling in your duel." Roo pointed towards the new thing going on with her mouth, and then stuffed his hands into his pockets because drawing attention to her mouth, given his recent mouth thoughts was...causing him to blush a bit.
Now he looked like he'd been outside in the cold. Maybe for an hour.

Ahhh it WAS Roo. So at least there was that. It wasn't a trick! "You asked me to come." Charlotte said, forgetting that she wasn't sure if she should be mad or not just because she was pleased to see him. She beamed at her friend but then her expression flickered into confusion. "Outside?" As in ever? Or just now? He knew she had been outside before!
And brawling? What? OH her lip. She touched it and shook her head. "Oh, no that happened after, it wasn't Chloe, it was a notebook." True. A notebook that Daxton had walloped her face with.
Was she... supposed to ask about the homework?

Was she... supposed to ask about the homework? Oh. Yes. That was right. Rooney nodded, glad for his own quick jumps through the conversation because that would have been much to embarrassing for the Ravenclaw. Most things were actually too embarrassing. Especially when his mother was involved and sent underwear -- which...he still had two pairs that were missing and he really needed to find them. HOW did underwear go missing? He was sure that he had left the Great Hall with all 25 pairs in the box. SURE of it. And none of his housemates had the same name as him so they couldn't possibly have thought they were theirs, right? "Your cheeks...pink...uh..." Was it just him that had noticed that?
He did remove one hand from his pocket and reached to touch one of her cheeks with the back of his fingers to check if they were cold, much like a parent would. "Not cold. I'm assuming no outside." Which meant face paint. Which meant her eyes were in the pre-black-blood stage and that only drew his eyes to them and then he was uh.....oh.....uh... hm? What had he been doing again??
Roo heard something about a notebook, reached around and patted his lower back, where his was stored religiously. "I uh... uh... mentioned snails... so it uh..." Could she possibly not make eye contact with him so he could finish a thought or a sentence or an hour without becoming a little more in-like with her? Avoiding conversation, something he was rather good at, Rooney offered the stack of parchment and smiled stiffly. His lips were moving nowhere. No speaky, no foot in mouth, no speaky.

Chloe has been helping me with make up! And my aunt Ellsworth sent me some free Ellsberry stuff since its her company." Nod. Wait.... did he like it? Did he NOT like it? It made her look OLDER right?? Wasn't that a good thing? BUT then he touched her face and maybe there WAS some actual blushing under the blush on her cheeks. But CHAR would still insist it was just the make up eep! Rooney had touched her FACE. ROONEY BRONWYN had touched HER face!
Ahem. Luckily he soon distracted her. It was the snail mention that did it.
Snails........? She looked down at the stack of parchment and then at him. "Roo....? How come you thought I needed my homework done for me?" Because she was reminded now and what if he DID think she was dumb? That would be the WORST!

Because she was reminded now and what if he DID think she was dumb? That would be the WORST! "My Aunt likes their stuff..." Not that he had looked at her collection over the Christmas holidays. No, not at all. Actually, he'd just wanted to ask if Elodie had something around for a reading headache and she had been "putting her face on" so she said. He didn't listen too much to all that she said, he really had just wanted something for his head. Not a lesson in GIRL. Although he needed lots of those lessons apparently, because he always seemed to be putting his foot in it every time he spoke to one that wasn't Miss Sophie Brown. "I like it. Your eyes look bigger... Or is that magic?" He knew that much: that magic could be used like that. He just didn't know how.
And didn't want to. But he knew that he wanted to tell her she looked pretty. "I also like...your uh..." General gesturing to her whole face. Yeah. That was what he liked. AND her heart. And her laugh. And E V E R Y T H I N G!!
Speaking of putting his foot in it... Bugger. Rooney fought to find the words that wouldn't sound super stupid and instead ruffled his hair, wishing that he had his glasses on him to use as a distraction. "I uh... Thought... Maybe..." Man oh man. "I thought maybe you wouldn't have enough time because I know you're busy with being super pretty and cool and I thought you might not have remembered. I tried to copy your handwriting from my birthday card, I'm sorry........."
Clearly the wrong thing to do to impress her.

Clearly the wrong thing to do to impress her. "Bigger? Good bigger or bad bigger? It's not magic..." Except that in some ways make up FELT like magic, which was cool, but still, were big eyes GOOD?
And he was pointing at her... gesturing.... Charlotte did blush then. Her what? HER WHAT? What did he like?
.....
..........
.... he did it for her because he thought she was super pretty and cool? Well those compliments were distracting enough. Charlotte smiled at him. "Um.... well okay, thanks. I guess. Ummmm you said I had to pay though...? That I get a friend discount?" What did THAT mean?
She poked at the split in her lip with her tongue and stared at him expectantly.

She poked at the split in her lip with her tongue and stared at him expectantly. "Good bigger." He confirmed with a nod, a smile and a quick distraction of looking down to his feet. His poor feet. They weren't even that interesting, they were just in shoes today. But it was better than looking at her face right now and finding something else to comment on and make her think he was saying something bad. Rooney wouldn't dare say something bad about Miss Charlotte's face. How could he? There wasn't anything bad about it. Except for that questionable lip thing, but he wasn't at all thinking about that specifically.
He WAS thinking about her lips though.
-- Oh. He forced a laugh and shrugged. "I was kidding. Thought maybe if the homework didn't attract you...that having to pay for it would upset you enough to come see me." And not disappear and somewhat avoid him. "If it's from a notebook..." he gestured to her lip once more. "It's not a paper cut. What happened?" You couldn't fall into a notebook.

Okay good bigger was... good. Not that she had make up on so that Rooney would think she looked nice, it was just because it was fun and Chloe was teaching her a ton about how to do it and they were experimenting with all the new products and... okay it was kind of a nice bonus that Roo thought she looked nice though.
She blinked at him and puzzled out the forced laugh and his words. Well, he'd done the homework now so... so she couldn't let it go to waste probably right? It wasn't as if she had asked him to do it so it wasn't reaally like cheating, it was just a friend being nice and --AND!-- it would give her more time to practice for her next duel! Charlotte perked up immediately at this thought (its possible) and decided that she maybe WOULD take it after all. Even if she... didn't have to pay for it, apparently.
Oh, her lip. Right. "It was from a notebook being bashed at my face, but its almost better, so its okay." She wasn't bothered by it, it didn't hurt anymore after all, and her and Daxton were still friends. "... are you SURE you don't want anything in return for doing all my homework?"
It was really awfully nice of him.

It was really awfully nice of him. Anger bubbled inside the Ravenclaw when Miss Charlotte talked about her face being bashed with a notebook, but the fact that she said it was okay made him HAVE to be okay with it too. "You'd tell me if it wasn't okay, right?" He couldn't have her walking around school all hurt and stuff. And he was sure that she wouldn't want him to write to her mother although he had originally thought about doing that when he wanted to ask her to be his girlfriend. Then his own mother had said that you couldn't ask someone to be your girlfriend if they were already someones girlfriend.
Shaking his head again, Rooney smiled. "No, it's fine. I wanted to help." And it just meant that he had time to make conversation and see her face, especially now that there was make up stuff going on on it. She looked nice. He didn't know if he liked her better with or without it. He just liked her. A whole lot. Did she know that? She knew that. He'd told her, in...not as many words. "You could do me a favour though?" Yes, yes. This was a good way to move this conversation towards what he wanted. "You know how I like you, yeah? Well..." He shrugged. Man, this was difficult. How did you ask these sorts of questions??

It WOULD have been nice if Daxton had said sorry though, even considering everything else. "And besides, what would you even do?" Really, Rooney, what?
Would it upset him though, if she said no about the homework? Charlotte didn't want to do that, even if she was being all torn about if it was good or bad. The good part was that she would be able to work on dueling things, the bad part was that she had this little niggling thing about if it was fair and right... but if she thought about taking it so that Rooney wouldn't be upset and all his hard work wouldn't be for nothing, that made it feel okay. Thus convinced, she held her hands out for the homework.
Huh? A favour?
EEP.
Charlotte nodded, trying for nonchalant. Yes. She... knew that, it was just that when he SAID it outright like that it made her ears feel hot and she didn't know what to do with her hands. "Um..... YES?" She prompted, a little too loudly, quite by accident. Where was he going with this?
