The castle houses numerous suits of armour, scattered all about, but one of the most impressive collections can be found on the second floor, as if guarding the way to the Headmistress' chambers. Why, even their spacing down this corridor could be a deliberate attack pattern.
Careful what you try with these dusty, dirty, squeaky knights. They can be rather... animated.
After what seemed like ages the first year was finally able to make his around the castle. He was so excited about being able to explore the castle. He actually couldn't believe it. He was here! At Hogwarts. Finally. It took his whole eleven years of life to finally get here and he was so excited that he didn't know what to do.
Brady felt as if he had already walked down this corridor about a million times, he was lost but LOOK THEY WERE SUITS OF ARMOR! Real knights! Bradson still had the dream that he was going to be a knight in shining armor one day and not a rockstar but honestly he would much rather be a rockstar! Rockstars were cool even though wearing a metal suit seemed pretty awesome too.
The badger sat down and leaned against the wall. He adjusted his guitar to his liking and he started to play in smoothly, the boy didn't know what he wanted to play so he just strummed a few chords, something would put into his brain. It was hard when he didn't have a song stuck in his head for once.

Note to self.
Never have a food fight in front of Professor Flamsteed ever again. That meeting went on for AGES. Didn't the man realise that there was a whole castle to explore?
Of course she had a whole term to explore it, but she wanted to get started right away.
Trixie had set off down the great staircase with no particular destination in mind, she just wandered along corridors looking for something interesting. She walked along the second floor and was only mildly interested by the suits of armour. Who would want to wear such a heavy outfit?
She was just about to turn the corner and head off somewhere else when she heard the strumming of a guitar. Curious, she stopped and walked towards the sound. "What you playing?" She asked the boy with interest. "I don't think I've heard that one before."

Reason: We're on the second floor Mel, not the third

Brady was still thinking of what would be a good song to play. Hmmm. Nope, he still didn't know what to play. Maybe an Adele song? No. Maybe a Beatles song? Not in the mood for their music right now. The first year sighed and kept strumming whatever chords were popping into his head int hat very moment.
Bradson had heard some footsteps but he continued to play. He strummed some more until he had heard a voice asking his a question. He stopped playing and let the music fade out. "I don't know." The Scottish boy said. "I don't think it's really a song, I just couldn't figure out what to play so I just strummed some chords and play whatever came to my mind." He did know that it was a song at all. He didn't want to get into song writing though.

Well that would be why she had not heard of it before because he wasn't actually playing a song which was a good thing. It would have been awfully embarrassing if she did not recognise the song was he was trying to play. "Oh. Well that's cool." She said brightly as she plopped down beside him.
"Have you been playing guitar long? My mum can play the piano. She's not half bad either." She wasn't exactly brilliant but at least she could play some tunes.

Marking essays was not in the list of the Top Ten Fun Activities for Tiara. Actually, you could add a few zeros on to that ten and it would still be true. So naturally, when the musical strains of of a guitar floated down the corridor and into her office, she just had to go explore.
Rounding a corner, the professor spotted two students that looked vaguely familiar but she couldn't drum up a name for. This fact alone told her that they were likely first years. "Is that music I hear?" she asked with a friendly smile. No reason to make them think that they were in trouble. Hogwarts could use a little more music, if you asked her.

"My name's Trixie by the way. What's yours?"
Brady smiled to the girl as she sat down next to him. "I like coming up with some random sounds, you know?" he smiled, Bradson loved to talk about music. He didn't know much of the technical terms because he taught himself how to play guitar but he did know how to play and he was very talented for an eleven year old.
"My name's Brady Somerhalder. Nice to meet you Trixie."

While Bradson was talking to the Trixie girl he had heard a voice. Maybe an older woman. He didn't know. She had the voice of a teacher...or a coach maybe? The first year peaked around Trixie and saw a woman. That was one of their professors of a hard class! "Yes it is, ma'am." The Scottish boy said with a proud smile. "Are you into music ma'am?" He asked her. He always had to ask, he wasn't going to allow himself to be friends with anyone if they didn't like music. What kind of person didn't like music or any other form of art? A life without art is a very boring life.

"Ooh I love random things." Nothing worse than a routine on her opinion. Trixie was all for spontaneity and surprises. She got that from her father. "So have you ever came up with your own songs? Do you sing or do you just play guitar?" Nothing like bombarding a person you just met with a thousand questions but Trixie was a curious child and simply had to know things.
"Are you a first year as well Brady?"
Trixie was just getting comfortable sprawled out onto the floor when there was suddenly a voice. An adult voice. The Gryffindor inmediately sprang to her feet and did a little curtsy in front of the Professor. "Hello." She said brightly. "I don't play an instrument but I can whistle." Just in case the Professor wanted to know that.

Fortunately, neither of them seemed startled at her appearance. Sometimes first years scared easily and, well, she simply did not enjoy being scary. "As you were, as you were," she said with a wave of her hand. "No need to get up for me, especially not adding in a curtsy!" Tiara smiled warmly, hoping to put them at ease.
She addressed the young boy next. "Ah, I thought so. I love music! And clearly you do, too," Or he wouldn't be spending his free time during his first days at school playing. "I'm Professor Tanner; I teach Arithmancy. And who would you two be?"
"I think playing some random chords is really helpful in finding what kind of sound that you want to do in the future...if music is what you want to do in the future." Once Brady got talking about music it never stopped. Easy questions, so easy. Brady smiled at Trixie. "I haven't written my own songs yet. I do sing a little bit. I also play the drums, bass guitar, banjo, harmonica and piano." He felt like he was leaving something out.
"I am, I was sorted into Hufflepuff like my dad."
Brady was proud of being in the same house as his father but too bad he didn't get to tell his father what house he was sorted into. Brady laughed. "Whistling is good too." That was somewhat musical.
Bradson looked over at the professor. The first year nodded and smiled at the woman as she introduced her name. "It's nice to meet you Professor Tanner." The Scottish boy was actually really happy meeting the professors, he didn't know why but it felt fun. "Do you have any favorite kind of music ma'am?" Brady asked her. YES MUSIC TALK! This was the best day ever for the first year so far.

"Oh wow! You're like multi-talented." Trixie was IMPRESSED. Her whistling seemed kinda lame compared to all the stuff Brady could do. "Did you have lessons for all those instruments? If I were to play an instrument, I would love to play drums." Nothing like making as much noise as possible.
"That's so cool. My grandmother was a Hufflepuff." Nod. Nod. "Your common room is in the best place in the castle." Oh she loved the Gryffindor common room but how cool would it be to be right beside the kitchens?
Trixie felt her face grow warm and she knew that she was surely blushing. She was going to kill her uncle Oliver when she next saw him. He had told her that all students had to bow or curtsy to the Professor's when they first met them.
"Sorry about that Professor Tanner." She smiled back at the woman. "My name is Trixie and I'm a first year Gryffindor." At least the Professor seemed nice. "I hear Arithmancy is hard. Is that true?"
Thanks for being patient through this time of my family's loss, guys. <3

So the boy still wasn't going to share his name? She would have to weasel it out of him somehow, or perhaps out of the girl. "Favorite music? That's like trying to pick my favorite student or my favorite food!" In other words, impossible. "But I tend to favor classical Muggle composers whilst working; it is quite difficult to concentrate with lyrics in the background." And that was mostly when she did listen to music, hardly ever for pure recreation.
Trixie. "No apology necessary," she said with a genial wave of her hand. "Better to show more courtesy than necessary as opposed to less than is required," she said wisely. "I am pleased to make your acquaintance, Trixie. Gryffindor has earned a very polite student this year." Tiara smiled as she heard a common question about her subject. "I would not say it is hard, more that it requires a different sort of effort than many other forms of magic. It is not for the lazy."
Bradson shrugged and smiled at Trixie. "I suppose I am. I don't think anyone has called me multi-talented before." The first year tried to think about the last time someone had called him that and he was still sure that no one has called him multi-talented before.
"The drums are really fun to play and it's even better to play when you're mad."
Brady smiled brightly. "My gran was a Slytherin and my grandpa was a Gryffindor." He nodded. He really didn't see his grandfather too much but that was how it was for his whole life.
He forgot his manners didn't he? That was very rude of him. "I'm Bradson Somerhalder but I liked to be called Brady." Just Brady. His favorite kind of music. "Classical music is pretty nice." He didn't have an interest in playing it but it was nice to listen to. The first year understood that all too well. "It's impossible to choose a favorite music genre." That was the worse thing to try to choose in the whole universe.
The Scottish boy shrugged. "I don't think I would ver that great at Arithmancy." He just knew that it was a class that he wouldn't be good at. Just like he wasn't that great at Divinations.

Lucy had rushed from one class to another today. Each time they were dismissed, she just shoved all her things into her bag to leave the classroom as fast as possible, that way she had more time to get to her next class in case she got lost, as she still managed to do.
This was not one of those incidents. Actually, she knew this hallway well. And as creepy as she first found the armor, they became a comforting sight. A sign she was going the right way. She was still skeptical someone wasn't hiding in at least one of them at any given time, though.
But it was here she decided to stop and sort out her bag now that she'd come out of her last lesson for the day and had the time. She pulled over to the side of the hallway, between two suits, knelt down, and began by just pulling everything out of her bag and sorting it into piles.

Scarlett was EXHAUSTED and sooooooo ready to just take a nice, long nap and then do her nails again. She was already bored of the hot pink glitter she'd done - she wanted something more Christmas-y now that the holiday was coming up!
Lost in her thoughts about how she was going to get teeny tiny Christmas trees on her nails, she realized that there were....things on the floor. Including a wand. Which was rolling down the hall right towards her. Picking it up and realizing that there was a girl nearby - who Scarlett actually recognized as one of her dormmates whose name she didn't know - she saw WHY things were everywhere. She was apparently going through her bag - or just throwing everything all over for some reason. Did she realize her wand was here?? Probably not.
"Here, I think you need this," she said with a smile, tapping her on the shoulder and handing her her runaway wand.

Lucy turned at the tap on her shoulder to see her dormmate....holding a wand out to her. To Lucy, they all looked the same: thin, wooden sticks, so she shuffled through her papers and bag really quickly to make sure it was hers that was missing.
It was.
"Thank you," she smiled back. That would've been awful if she lost it, really. How would she survive a magic school the rest of the year without her magic wand? "I was just trying to...organize..," she stammered as an excuse. Although losing things was sort of counterproductive of organizing, wasn't it? Maybe this wasn't the best place for it. Lucy piled everything somewhat more neatly than before and stuffed it back into her bag. She'll finish this in the Common Room.
And hey, "Are you going back to the common room?"

"Ah, Bradson who goes by Brady. Well, Mister Somerhalder, I will strive to commit your identity to memory, but no promises." There were hundreds of students in this place, after all. "I usually have to forget your name to your face at least three times before it sticks," she explained. It was not her strong suit.
Pretty nice? It was unusual to find a youngster that appreciated older music like that. "Excellent!" And fortunately he was letting her off the hook on picking a favorite. "Well thank you, kind sir." She liked the young man.
"And unfortunately, no one has yet invented the self-marking essay. So I will have to bid you a fond farewell now." Nodding towards the guitar, she said, "So feel free to carry on as you were!" Then she turned to make the walk back towards her office and the exciting prospect of grading.
