The Hogwarts staff are already seated when you enter the feast. Their traditional place is at a long table on a raised dais at the back of the Great Hall, with the usual Hogwarts crest hanging behind them and looking particularly nice tonight.
Feel free to come up and give your greetings to the School staff after the Headmaster has given his traditional speech. Remember your manners, children. Your professors like to have a quiet dinner too.
Nana Ichihara was not the kind to show anxiety, or nerves. Cool, calm, collected, these were things she strived to be at all times no matter what situation she might find herself in. Nonetheless, she was nervous as hell as she made her way to the staff table and her assigned seat.
Hogwarts: Prestigious, beautiful and dangerous. The next great adventure. These were the walls that had seen greatness. Rowena Ravenclaw, Merlin, Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Harry Potter, Abraham Botros... Her Predecessor Preston Kingsley...
And now here she was to shape Europe's best and brightest. To teach in these hallowed classrooms. It was an honor she did not take lately. Taking her seat, Nana surveyed the sea of students as they came filing in, her dark eyes wide with wonder. "Amaterasu... " Nana muttered softly to herself. She had never beheld so many students.
Paul sauntered into the Great Hall, comfortably dressed, banjo over his shoulder, the rounded part hitting the back of his knees as he walked up to the staff table. The hall was still remotely empty. And not many of his coworkers had arrived yet.
There was a new face! A woman! Paul approached her with a smile and a small wave. "Hello, good evening, m'dear! You must be new! And..." he eyed her seat. "Transfiguration? Wonderful! It's such an interesting subject!" He bobbed around a lot, his eyes shiny with anticipation and shuffling his feet in an antsy way. He had dressed down this feast, sure, but he felt comfortable and he could eat more now. The stretchy waistband of joggers...would be nice once he had had his fill of food!
"My name is Paul Myers, and I teach Herbology..." he bowed his head and extended his hand for her to shake.

Comfortable chair, this was, and thinking of all the bums of brilliant brains who'd graced it was making Moxley incredibly proud and absolutely terrified that she'd mess this up. Fist closed around the lucky coin her husband had gifted her, the brunette glanced around the great hall. No, she had this. The Moxinator was going to channel her inner Gryffindor and go all lion-tastic on this school. She was. Letting out a muffled baby roar into her other hand, she decided she was good.
"You look well, Nana. Paul, that outfit-" No Moxley, control the word vomit. "It reflects your relaxed soul and comforting presence." Nailed it.

Ah, another year! This was equally the most exciting and most anxious time of year. Great expectations could go both ways, after all. But she loved seeing all the new faces, plus greeting all those that were returning.
"Paul! Do you plan to serenade us tonight?" she asked, eyeing his instrument. She wouldn't mind that, but she also didn't know if that was a good idea. After all, Moxley might be a bit uptight tonight. Then, spotting a new face, she turned quickly and smiled. "Hello, Nana! I hope you enjoy your first feast! Save room for pudding!" she said, imparting her veteran wisdom.
But both of those people were on the opposite side of the table from her. So, on her way, she nodded to Meredith. "Good evening, Mer-- er, Headmistress." Tiara always wished to address her superiors appropriately.
Then she made her way all the way down to the end. No one was near her yet, but that wasn't the reason she was feeling empty and lonely inside. No, that was more to do with the personal loss she felt now that she was no longer working with Ravenclaw house. But she still harbored a special place in her heart for them.
Nana glanced up as... one of her colleagues, a lanky man with white hair and.. A banjo ever so casually slung over his shoulder. He dressed like one of her old Professor's a university, but at least this man's clothes had no holes, and didn't reek. Small Blessings. "Good Evening," Nana replied, owing her head softly to man and offering him a small smile. She was struck by his energy. "Yes, it is. Transfiguration is my one true love." That wasn't quite a joke.
"Oh, how lovely, Herbology is lovely. It is a pleasure, Professor Myers" She reached out, shaking his hand. "Nana Ichihara." Silently, she hoped he wouldn't butcher her last name as most Westerners did.
"Thank you. You look very elegant, Headmistress." Nana said, turning slightly in her seat to glance at the auburn haired woman, whom she had only briefly met, but already had a warm regard for. She held back an amused smile at Moxley's comments. Relaxed was certainly the word.
"Hello, thank you." Had she met this woman before? Perhaps when she'd stepped in for her interview, in which she'd forgotten both the woman and her name, and that wasn't only unprofessional, it was awfully embarrassing. "I'll make sure to save room for... Pudding.. " Pudding? she wasn't a fan, unless it was banana with vanilla wafers and whipped cream. She found it a bit strange to be so excited for pudding. there was that culture divide she tried well to avoid.
"Yes, are you going to be serenading us, Professor Myers?" she said, echoing the other woman's question.

Being late wasn't in Roderik's intended plans for this evening, and neither was death by his boss's glare for being a slacker. So, the man had turned up fairly early with his shoulders thrown back and his blazer draped over his shoulders to add an air of casualness. Was this in an attempt to mask the nervousness? Why yes, yes of course. Was he going to let it show? Not in his wildest nightmares.
There was a lot to be nervous about: teaching hormonal teenagers who had access to magic - merlin only knew how well that would go - teaching somewhere new and the intimidating look the castle gave. Durmstrang only had four floors but this? These stairs were an exercise course on its own.
Enough of that, there were other people here. Colleagues, in fact. Roderik let himself smile at the boss herself before saying, "Headmistress. Good to see you again." He then looked towards the others seated there. Three others, in fact: a woman who was sitting on her own over there (Tiara), a man wearing.... something (Paul) -both of whom got smiles and a 'Hello' - as well as.....
Oh ho ho.
The man half-smirked. "I'm glad you haven't gotten yourself into any," He paused for dramatic effect. "ah, murky waters lately." Whether she (Nana) understood what he meant or not, Roderik moved to sit down in his designated seat.

This woman seemed to be genuinely confused on several levels. First, she didn't seem to recognize who was speaking to her. Perhaps she hadn't been told who her colleagues were? "I'm Tiara, Tiara Tanner. Arithmancy Professor. It's great to have you here."
Second, she didn't seem to be excited about pudding. Now that was just incomprehensible. "Not a fan of sweets, then? The elves usually have a great variety of tarts, pies, actual pudding, you name it. Just you see, there will be something there that tickles your fancy."
Now it was time to get to know her coworkers a bit better. "You're coming to us from Salem, correct?" Hogwarts had gotten many excellent staff members from there recently.

Oh, and there was another of their new additions! She gave the man a broad smile and returned his greeting. "Hello, Roderik! Welcome to Hogwarts. I'm Tiara Tanner, Arithmancy Professor. It's wonderful to have you here with us." And it would be equally wonderful if she could keep herself from calling this man Plumpton - that was the Quidditch background kicking in.

Julien made his way to the table. He was eager to get there before the student had come in. With having three nephews starting this term he wanted to see the sorting quiz. Of course they would all be in Ravenclaw like himself. Though his brother had become a lion. So that he guessed was a possibility.
Straightening his suit and having his usual serious look, he made his way around the table. The faces were familiar since he did attend the staff meetings before term started and ran into some as he got his classroom and office ready.
"Good Evening everyone." Greeting the staff that had already been sitting.
Having ridden the train with the students to get to Hogwarts, Ansley also arrived with them and was a bit later to the feast than his colleagues. Not a big deal though, at least not to him, as he had taken care of many of his matters beforehand. And, feeling a little too tall for the carriages, the thirty year old opted to walk from the train station to the castle. The air had been a little crisp with the sun going down so he was rather thankful for his fashionable choice of wearing a scarf today.
As he approached the staff table, he gave a collective smile and nod to the group already seated. "Greetings and salutations, everyone." Now.. which seat was his again? He didn't want to appear too scatterbrained, not on his official first day, so he stood in front of the dais a moment, mentally counting in his head. Fourth.. no, fifth from the right end? Ah, hot dog, there was an empty one there, must be the right one. Making his way around that end, he took a seat then put on his glasses as he leaned back a bit. Let's get this party started.

There was Moxley! She looked so nice sitting in her big chair! Paul smiled and waved over at her. "Hello, Meredith! You're looking quite dapper tonight...and professional!" He was a little sad Botros had to leave them...but Moxley was fair, at least. He trusted her enough. "And yes! You think so?" he looked down at his converses and chuckled. "I just wanted to be comfy!"
Ah, and Tiara was yelling over at him! He smiled and waved at her. "PERHAPS!" he cupped his hands over his mouth so she could better hear him. He mostly wanted to serenade the puffers, his NEW little clan of puffers. For bonding and...friendship!
Back to the new face! "Nana...Itchichewbacca...." he butchered it completely. Merlin. He felt his cheeks flush because that was a HARD surname..."Uhhh--" he was also fairly certain he had inadvertently referenced a Star Trek War character or something. Airey would be so proud! THAT REMINDED HIM! He HAD to show Airey the VULCAN SALUTE he made Milton help him learn over the summer! YES YES YES! "I'm sorry--I'll get your name right eventually, m'dear--" he nodded his head and turned to THREE MORE NEW GUYS!
They were all quite good looking lads, too. Hmph. "Hello! Hello! Hello!" Three hello's for the three fellows! [Roderik, Julien, Ansley] and went to shake their heads respectively. "Nice to meet you all! My name is Paul Myers--Herbology fellow here--" he smiled. It looked like one of them was his new table neighbor! In between Cece and a handsome fellow--what a joyous joy this was! He enjoyed it all!
He really needed to TAKE his seat. Yes. So he went to his spot and plopped in his chair, hanging the banjo on the back of it. Were his Hufflepuffs doing okay? He leaned up to check on the table...there was Henric...oh good. Talking to first years! Good good!
Term was off to a GOOD start!
....was that a hag? *blinks*

Not late but arriving precisely when he meant to, Airey ascended the steps of the dais with his arms full and his heart heavy. Never had he imagined that he would return to Hogwarts upon graduating let alone instruct here for a decade, and yet here he was. About to begin that decade and feeling like the man. Of course, such confidence was primarily projected on the outside. It was hard NOT to feel confident when one was wearing a freshly pressed suit fresh from the magical world that was the muggle dry cleaners. Because on the inside, well, the man was basically a giant pile of francium. External forces, meaning those outside of these castle walls, being what they were. There was A LOT on the astronomer's mind this evening.
Still, this WAS the start of term feast and it was a time of celebration. Therefore...
"Live long and prosper," he announced, balancing all of his goodies in one arm so that he could give his colleague a proper Vulcan salute. Those who were returning ought to be familiar enough with this not to give him weird looks again, but the new folks...well...welcome to a crash course in Flamsteed.
And before he made his way down to his seat, he had a few matters to take care of. The first being, perhaps, the most difficult and yet not difficult at all.
"Meri-berry!" he greeted as he moved Pebbles aside so he could present his colleague with yet another poorly wrapped gift. This time the bow looked a little more presentable...it you squinted and looked at it sideways.
A sideways glance brought his attention to Paul.
What in the name of Orion...
"House elves not finish your laundry on time?" he asked with genuine concern. THIS was precisely why Airey did NOT let them touch his suits. Clearing his throat, Airey side stepped his way towards the man and offered the Herbology professor his own poorly wrapped gift of yellow tissue paper. For congratulatory purposes, like Meri-berry.
Glancing down the table further brought his attention towards one of the new hires aaaaaaaaaall the way down there. Airey offered the woman, Nana, a quick salute as his attention turned to the fellow who had just sat down beside Paul. "Live long and prosper," he offered the man, since he had missed his general one towards the rest of the staff table. One of the fellows who had been assigned train duties today, yes? Hopefully so or else the Gryffindor Head of House's next question would be a rather foolish one. "Trust the journey here was a pleasant one?" As in...did his new set of prefects behave themselves? No worries for him on having badges stripped with this pairing? Speaking of Gryffindor, his blue eyes did look out over at the table as an, er, precaution. So far so good...which meant he needed to go over the words he had prepared for the evening.
Novelty mugs delivered - some for new staff forgotten in his office during a brief moment of panic upon receiving an owl regarding the whereabouts of Miss Summers - Airey sauntered over towards his own seat and offered some more Vulcan salutes to Professor Not Sabel and Charms professor. "Excuse me for just a moment," he said, pulling from his enchanted breast pocket a gift for the new Care of Magical Creatures Professor topped with a red bow. He had actually purchased it last year, but seeing as the spot had been filled by a centaur, well, it had not seemed the appropriate sort of gift. "Now that that is settled," he grinned, looking mighty pleased with himself for placing a lint roller right smack in the middle of the plate, he turned towards the new gentleman. "Airey Flamsteed, Professor of Astronomy," he re-introduced himself. Or introduced. He had been a bit, er, scatter brained today to recall if he had delivered a proper greeting to the two or not.
He also offered Tiara a small salute after glancing over his shoulder...and had his ear flush just a little as he addressed her. "Good evening, Tiara, I was wondering if...well...since...you know...Pebbles has become quite accustomed to having her own seat at the feast..."
Catch his drift?

Just as expected, Justin made his fashionable way in from the back after the ride but before the first years could make their entrance. Never late, but right on schedule as he slithered in. There were new staff arrivals indeed as he could spot right away the unrecognisable ones. "Evening everyone." He greeted, then checking one of his pockets to make sure his mirror was still in there. Yep, good as new. As vain as it appeared as he smiled genuinely after.
Let's see, starting from the first he noticed, "Tiara. Airey. Pleasant summers?" His hands resting on each of their shoulders to pat briefly. Hm? Whose this newer seated fellow? Would (Julien) mind a head pat? Nah. Even his lifelong friend Geffrey had issues with his hair being touched. Plus, a certain former Professor wore a similar expression and-oh this would be too good of an opportunity to welcome the McLeod way on another day of course. "Charms, eh? Groundskeeper Justin. Welcome to this side of the Hall." He could offer him a hand if he'll take it.
And... for Transfiguration. Justin's eyes looked over (Nana) before smiling softly at her. "Evening," As he greeted, "Justin, Groundskeeper. How are you today?" Nothing like making one feel welcome.
The next new fellow.... had Justin blinking a moment. Of all spots to fill Sabby's... "Mr. Roderick H-" Smiling a little before correcting, "or rather Professor Hirsch." Did this former young man recognise his former Professor as he did with a former student? Come on. Who would forget this face?
Moxley..Moxley.. was it bad to still be extra-friendly with your friend-now-turned-boss? No way. As Justin gave his usual finger waggling wave towards her. "A congrats is in order I'd say Headmistress." To be able to sit on that wonderful throne.. was it only accepting of former Hufflepuff Heads? Or perhaps her winning the duel last term sealed it. The pattern seem to fit in this secret. "How'd the rest of your summer go?"
Of course who was next, "Paaul..." That grin that only close friends could share within sight of each other. What was this about serenading? "You're writing us a song? How thoughtful." Appearing quite nice to be on the receiving end of it. "How've you been?"
Another fellow. History of Magic then, interesting. Perhaps (Ansley) would share a lot in common with him and Leo. "Evening. Is this your second or first time here?" In case he was a former student here. That'd be some history for Justin to dig up on before offering a hand, "Justin. Groundskeeper."

He wasn’t late. This was planned. James was never late unless it was on his own terms and this was completely intentional. He had absolutely planned to be the… tenth person to arrive. And oh would you look at that? He was. Excellent. If anyone tried to accuse him of anything else, he’d put them in their place. Though… He was sure that wasn’t necessary. They were all professionals here.
James carefully assessed the hall, his gaze focused but not-revealing. Whatever nostalgia he felt seeing the Great Hall after so many years, clearly hidden from his expression. It was a bit surreal, but he remained cool and collected, as always. After adjusting his collar he made his way towards the far end of the dais, deciding it’d be best to be courteous. Say hello. These were his new colleagues after all and first impressions were everything. So impress him, basically.
But what he saw right away had him stop dead in his tracks. No. No no no no no. NO. It lasted thirty seconds. Thirty seconds of complete and utter panic. Thirty seconds of looking frazzled. But that’s all he allowed himself. Thirty seconds and then he resumed to his collected self again. ”…Nana,” his tone cornered on disbelief. ”I didn’t think I’d run into you so soon,” or maybe his tone was cornering on accusatory? She never said. And now she was going to want some sort of follow up from him, he was sure and no, no, no. He owed her nothing. He gave her a smug sort of look as he continued to walk forward. Ridiculous. Impossible. She couldn’t know that she took him by complete surprise. It would compromise everything he was going for here.
Which is why he quickly moved on to greet… Was he wearing a poncho? James tried to suppress it, he really did, but a look of judgement most definitely graced his face. A poncho? This was a well-respected institute for learning, not a place of mockery. James quickly moved on, not even bothering to acknowledge the loon for any longer, er apologies to the poor bloke sat beside him. Nothing personal.
If there was a specific seating arrangement, James had no idea of it. Honestly, he was just trying to escape the corner where Nana and the Ridiculous-Poncho-Man sat. Luckily the rest of them didn’t look like complete nuts. Honestly, James thought the regret would hit once he taught his first lesson. Didn’t think it’d settle in so soon. ”Meredith,” he didn’t even linger on the fact that he probably should’ve addressed her by her formal title. Formal titles meant ranks and though ‘Headmistress’ did technically rank above ‘Professor’, James wasn’t going to be the one to point it out. ”You look divine.” Though that was also in comparison to Poncho-Man over there, so maybe don’t take the compliment too seriously, yeah?
There was an empty seat beside Meredith, but James wasn’t interested. Didn’t need the Headmistress breathing down his neck the entire feast, no thank you. He had spent enough time getting to know the hard hammers of Hogwarts back in his own school days. So he skirted past that seat. So he settled for the one in between Shiny-Head and Santa Claus, coincidentally picking the seat that had been chosen for him. Pulling out his chair, he gave them a nod. ”Good evening—“ he started before his eyes finally fell upon the…. item sat in the middle of his plate. He picked it up curiously. ”Is this how they welcome all the new Professors?” he asked the man in the outrageous red. Something about him struck familiar, however, he couldn’t quite place it.

He was not late, right? He couldn't be? Leo did though gulp uneasily at the sight of all his old and colleagues up on the staff dais already. The only one he did see with a quick glance was Cece. He had valued excuses though and he was only a few minutes late. Adjusting his very pink and stand out tie aside from his favourite navy coloured dress robes Leo ascended the staff dais on the left side where two of his oldest colleagues sat. "Good evening Airey and Tiara! I hope you both had wonderful summer vacations?" Airey was fashionable in a newly pressed suit as always and Tiara was equally elegant.

Moving away from Airey and Tiara he came upon the first of his new colleagues that was taking over after Thereos. Smiling he extended a hand towards the man for a shake "James right? Art walked through the doors of The Great Hall, hearing the dull echo of his footsteps on the stone floor. Of course, the hall was far from empty, but his eyes were ahead. On his seat. Yes, he knew where the Potionsmaster sat. He had remembered from his time at Hogwarts, even though that was aeons ago.
His eyes briefly scanned the Staff Table, Madame Curie squeaking in his ear. "Yes, two. I see two people that I know," he whispered back to her, reaching up to his shoulder to give his previous rat-baby a little scratch on her head. There was the Headmistress, who he had met with of course, and Ansley. The others... he didn't recognise. Though... the other golden oldie, perhaps they would have to put their heads together. Yes... yes. Did their time at Hogwarts as students cross over at all?
Art paused in front of the Headmistresses spot, in the very middle of the table. "Headmistress, how-how nice it is to-to see you. Again. Err..." He nodded, awkwardly.
"Ansley, good to... good to see you again," he said to the History of Magic Professor. Art remembered that he liked teaching art history, then gave a wave and a big friendly grin to everyone.
Off to the second chair from the left, for the Potionsmaster. He sat down with a slight grunt, having had a bit of a fall the other day. He hadn't realised there were more steps on the staircase. He reached for the goblet in front, pleased to see it full of water. He took a culp of it, letting out a satisfied 'ahh', then turned to his neighbour. He blinked a few times, whilst thinking about what to say. There was a little squeak in his ear, and he said "Ahh, yes. Thank you. Hello," with a nod.

Tiara chuckled. She hadn't known Paul to be a banjo player, but then again, she really didn't know much about him at all. She had not been good about getting to know her new colleagues last year, but she was determined to not make the same mistake twice. Thinking it was best not to continue yelling across the room, however, she decided to pick up their conversation later on.

"Airey! Good evening! Good holiday?" she asked. Really she had no clue what the man chose to do with his summers. But as far as his ridiculous rock was concerned, she wasn't going to make it easy for him. No, he had to explicitly state his request. "Spit it out, Professor. What is it that you want?"

Plus, a certain former Professor wore a similar expression and-oh this would be too good of an opportunity to welcome the McLeod way on another day of course. "Charms, eh? Groundskeeper Justin. Welcome to this side of the Hall." He could offer him a hand if he'll take it.
Tiara jumped, startled, as a hand was laid on her shoulder. "Oh, hello there, Justin. Yes, excellent summer. I did absolutely nothing and quite enjoyed it!" she exclaimed, much unlike herself. Jason was good about forcing his wife to relax, and Tiara knew that she needed it.

But seeing Leo caused all her pain to return in an instant. How long would it be that way? "Good evening, Leobald. Summer was pleasant, yes.." Her voice trailed off as she suppressed all that she both wanted and didn't want to say to him regarding Ravenclaw House. Her mood tended to alternate between quiet resignation, indignance, and sadness. But she didn't want to let that ruin her feast, so her eyes were carefully avoiding a certain long table.

Was that cackling she'd just heard? Moxley glanced around the hall in search of the source, her eyes lingering briefly on the Slytherin table. Seemed like the most likely culprits, to be honest. No cackler in sight, though. Strange, very strange indeed.
Green eyes landing on Paul once again, the Moxinator was quick to grin at his words. "That's what I was going for! The colors felt very Botros to me. Been thinking about him a lot recently." For obvious reasons. She was going to do her best to make him proud. "You certainly look comfortable. I'm about to slip out of these heels in a minute. My dogs are barking." If he was catching what she was throwing out there. Wink, wink.
"Dress to impress, Nana. That's what I always say." Not really but she wanted to give the air of someone who had a mantra. In reality her mantra would be something like Never try to haggle with a muggle who has a 'Beware of Dog' sign on the outside of his antique shop. She'd share that little gem if she heard of any colleagues who were into that sort of thing.
"Tiara, hey!" The headmistress gave a kind smile to the Arithmancy Professor and then added, "Meredith is more than okay. I prefer it, really."
Now Meredith would never hire anyone just because of their looks but it didn't hurt that some of the new staff looked like they were movie stars. Talk about dream-y. "Welcome, Roderik! So glad to have you here. Hope you're settling in okay." He seemed to be. "That goes for the two of you, as well!" She added as she smiled at Julien and Ansley, who were finding their seats.
So many new first years this year. Moxley had turned her attention to the sorting hat ceremony and couldn't help but notice that they were being overrun by the little ones. As adorable as they were, the brunette knew they'd need looking after as this school had a habit of chaos. Lucky she trusted the prefects so much. Kids better be on their game, that was for sure.
"Rocketman, you shouldn't have!" And yet she wasted no time at all opening the gift Airey had given after taking a moment to raise her eyebrows at the wrapping job. You'd think Medea would've taught him how to do that by now, Mer-lin. "Oh," She squeaked as she removed the mug and set it down in front of her, all smiles and enthusiasm. "Airey, it's perfect! Thank you!" Like he shouldn't have but she was glad he did.
And her new feast buddy was here. Moxley returned the fingerwiggle greeting and grinned at Justin. "It was brilliant! The husband took us on a trip to Salem and we did all kinds of sightseeing and shopping-a little more than he wanted but y'know. Heh.-and I got a bunch of things to add to my collection." A collection that had inspired the newest room she'd set up for the students. "What about yours, hm?"
Divine. She looked divine. Moxley let out a little giggle!snort and turned a bit pink as she smiled at James and waved a hand-her left hand because she was married, James, please. "Thank you and welcome."
There he was, her former feast buddy. "Leo, thank you!" Her smile mirrored his as it was quite contagious. "Lovely summer. Seems like they go by quicker every year, doesn't it?" Product of getting old, they said. Moxley wouldn't know because SHE was still the picture of youth. Ahem. "How was yours?"
Bit strange, this one was. Meredith smiled warmly at Art in hopes of relaxing him. Poor man looked like he needed to sit down. "Pleasure to see you, too! Welcome to the team." Again, that is. And officially now that the term was underway.
...Who was that entering the great hall? Moxley had caught sight of a rather frightening woman and immediately decided she was the cackler in question from earlier. Looked like a Disney villain, Merlin.
"Did I miss something....." She must have missed something.
Paul waved over at Airey...and laughed! Oh Airey! SO funny! "I dressed myself today, Airey! Milton said the poncho was a bit much--he made me iron my joggers too...man hates wrinkles!" He thought it was so funny, ironing joggers. "OH! I wanted to show you what I learned over the summer!" and he raised his right hand and did the Vulcan salute! "I learned it! I practiced all summer!" His face was flushed in excitement. "It took awhile to get my fingers to want to DO this! But I did it--" and he quickly unwrapped the little gift.....
And his eyes stung with tears.
Oh no.
Would he make any feast without crying? It appeared not.
"Thank you so much, Airey...it is the best gift I have received...in awhile!" He would drink out of this mug every day! Forever. Until he kicked the bucket.
Oh, look! It was his good friend Justin! Paul smiled and waved. "Hello there, groundskeeper! You're looking handsome and rustic tonight!" Yep. He had that beard going on. Paul could never quite grow a nice looking beard. "And ahhh..I more brought it to bond with my Hufflepuffs. I think they'd enjoy being serenaded! I could serenade you all, too!" If they wanted. He didn't want to bother anyone.
Another new face! [James] But it looked like the man didn't want to talk to him. Hmph. Paul looked down at his poncho. He supposed the new guy was feeling shy. Awww. Paul wondered if he needed a hug! OR some banjo playing! Maybe he'd play the man a song. Make him feel welcome!
Haha, speaking of welcome, it was Leo! His favorite librarian! Paul waved at him eagerly and patted the strap of his banjo. "I do play...I'm in a blue grass band...honestly, none of you KNEW this? We've got quite a few albums under our belt." They were no Agromentula...or Wiggen something or other, or who was the young ones were listening to now? Was is...The Dead Centaurs? Kneazles? Crup? Something along those lines. "Next time we have a gig, you and Cassie and the little one should come." He beamed. "How is Cassie? She doing okay? I'm sending her more presents soon!" Hehe.
...An old person. It was an old person. [Arthur] Paul was thinking about how OLD he was...when he realized....IT WAS SOMEONE HE WENT TO SCHOOL WITH. WHAT IN MERLIN'S NAME? Paul leapt out of his chair, crossing over to talk to the man...did this make PAUL OLD?
Hmph.
"...Arthur Newman? Arthur Newman. You were...a Gryffindor..." Paul had exceedingly good memory. See? Not elderly. "I was...four years younger--so you probably don't remember me--" Paul ran a hand through his hair, smirking a bit. "But I was a Ravenclaw...you know, cleverest kid in my class--" Bragging casually, here. Ahem. "But you know." His eyes rolled upward, to Arthur's hair. "Us white-haired fellows must stick together, eh?"
As he made his way back to his seat, he smiled and nodded at Meredith. "Of course! Take your shoes off! Enjoy life! This is your school, after all. We can now have...casual Fridays! Or pink Wednesdays! Mini skirt Thursdays!" he teased, winking as he slipped back into his seat.
And yes, he was keeping an eye on that hag. WHO was she? Should they be concerned? Meredith didn't seem concerned...so he felt slightly less panicked.

Leaving the charming young girl she had met in the entrance hall she swiftly made her way through the Great Hall and up on to the staff dais where she sniffed the air and cackled out to nobody in particular crazy eyes darting around. "This place needs more perfume to fend off the heavy and very pungent smell of children. You all really should update your cologne selection." With that Ursula pulled out her perfume bottle and started to spray her heavy scented perfume in every possible direction. Some made contact with one of the men's ghastly red suit (Airey) leaving a large wet dot right down his chest. The woman next to him (Tiara) got perfume all over her pretty dark hair.

Cackling crazily Ursula walked down a few meters to stop and stare down the youngest man on the dais. Reaching down into her huge bag she pulled out a card depicting a scarecrow which she placed on the man's plate and wheezed out. He sat and listened to the staff his eyes glancing at his goblet. Was there a forgetful potion in the water? He wouldn't be drinking it that was for sure. Everyone was introducing themselves as if they had never met. Did he dream the staff meeting? It was interesting to say the least. He nodded to a few (Ansley, Airey, James, Moxely, Taria) that just gave a small greeting. He was never one to really be social. His eyes were out with the children. Seeing His Nephews Benton and Kaleb head to the sorting hat. His already none smile was even more apparent when they both went to two different houses. Shame, brothers should be together and how did a Primeaux end up in Hufflepuff? The next was Torrance, another Gryffindor. This was very interesting to him.
Bringing his focus back to the staff he nodded as more staff were introducing and shaking his hand. First was one that had an interesting outfit for a feast. Though he wasn't going to judge, "Hello Paul, nice to see you again." His attention went now to the Groundskeeper and he kept the eyes on the goblet of water as if it would jump into something. "Evening Justin, yes I do charms. Very well I might add. If you need any help on the grounds at all." He figured he'd offer as he took his hand as well.
Another was over towards him now. "Leo nice to see you again. I was a Ravenclaw as a student. Most of my family has been in Ravenclaw, but tonight it seems three of my nephews have went other places." He glanced at the Gryffindor table and the Hufflepuff table. It was interesting.
...and what was this? He watched as some Hag showed up at the table. Did his school go that far down that they let Hags in? He chuckled a bit from the perfume. "My cologne is just fine thank you." He mumbled as the woman went towards the headmistress. He still wasn't going to touch that water.

The first greeting came from the lonesome woman sitting on his half of the table. Being the kind of person who was more into the physical-based lessons rather than the written ones, he wasn't one to find Arithmancy even the least bit interesting. Pretending was out of the question as well. He wasn't about to mention that to his colleague, though, who taught the subject. Why she would put herself through that torture, he didn't know. But he smiled at her and replied, "It's nice to meet you, Tiara. Hogwarts is certainly new... and extravagant from my experience." But she didn't need to know that. "I take it that you're doing well?"
Another fellow (Julien) walked in, followed by another (Ansley). Though, the second one had walked in with some of the students, for Merlin knows what reason. He knew he could be here beforehand, yes? "Good evening. The name's Roderik Hirsch. Defence Against the Dark Arts." Yes, hello.
More would have been said if it wasn't for the arrival of someone else (Paul) who had managed to get his attention entirely. Oh Merlin. What was he wearing?! Was he aware of how ridiculous he looked? Of how homeless he looked? The questions kept popping up in Roderik's head as he studied the other professor. "And you, Paul. The name's Roderik, Defence Against the Dark Arts." Would he care to explain the outfit? Because Roderik was baffled right now.
If he thought that Paul's outfit was weird enough to kick off this feast, he was about to be put into a sense of shock. Because, out of almost nowhere, a man (Airey) appeared in the brightest suit known to mankind. And live long and prosper? And the salute? The Defence professor was confused. Maybe this was an initiation service of some sort. Weirdness had to be in abundance to confuse the newcomers to see who would make it through the feast. Survival of the fittest did exist in the magical world, after all. "Hello, and nice to meet you, Airey." Fitting name for a professor of Astronomy. "The name's Hirsch, Roderik Hirsch. Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts." Mouthful, that was.
And then his eyes fell on someone else (Justin) and... Hirsch paused. Merlin. Oh Merlin. Oh, this was familiar. It was like seeing Nana all over again: shock, confusion and surprise were all merging together, but, finally, he smiled. A genuine big smile. "Merlin, Mr Mc- ... Justin, you didn't tell me you worked here." His former Professor was now his colleague, there was everything weird and wonderful about that.
His eyes found two new arrivals (James, Art), both of whom had sauntered off without a word. Rude. One was sitting one seat was away from him, so it was easy to give him a smile and small 'Hello' in greeting but the other? The other was sitting right on the other side of the table, right next to Miss Fountain herself. He got a smile and a small wave in greeting. Hello, whoever you happen to be.
This next colleague (Leobald) seemed happy. That was the first impression Roderik got from him as he went on to, er, word vomit all over him. Maybe that wasn't surprising considering he was the Librarian. He nodded at the enquiry about his name, before piping up, "Yeah, there's no rain so I have no complaints. Nice to meet you, Leobald." Did he read a lot of books? This was not a question he got asked a lot. Usually it was 'do you know karate?' and 'do you have a black belt?' but did he read a lot of books? Well. "I have a small collection of Defence books." That was as far as it got, really.
The Headmistress was talking to him on a first name basis? New. That was new. Smiling, he replied, "So glad to be here." The castle was amazing and the grounds, especially, had caught his fancy. Morning jogs were going to be easier out there. "Absolutely. I'm looking forward to getting started."
And then came a foul smell and a... oh Merlin. Was that a hag?! Eyes flew over to Moxley to see if this was someone who was meant to be here. While he trusted her judgement somewhat, he was starting to feel worried now. Why would she hire someone like that?! Merlin, if a face could haunt your nightmares...
And then she came up to him. Roderik froze at the sight of her so close to him, that scent clogging up his sense of smell and making him want to throw up whatever it was he had for lunch. To make it worse, there was now a card on his plate. Picking it up, he shot it a confused look, almost expecting it to spell out whatever garbage the hag was spewing out but alas, that wasn't the case. Instead, he shot her... the thing a confused look. Dark aura? Deception? Poison?! "Are you crazy?"
Or, wait. "I, er, I'll take your word for it, then." Not. "I hope you're not the one planning on poisoning me." He'd find out. He would.
elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿
"Mini skirt Thursdays?" Moxley chuckled, couldn't help it. Paul's sense of humor was right in line with her own and she appreciated it. She was about to joke about Poncho Tuesdays but realized the man would probably take her seriously and honestly, his was ghastly. Best to hope he didn't own too many of those. "I do like the idea of a pajama day..." Because who didn't like wearing pajamas? She'd keep all of this in mind.
The brunette was about to ask Roderik a bit more about his plans for this term when the woman-a most frightening woman-was up on the dais and spraying perfume that made her eyes water and her nose itch. "ACHOO!" Oh dear Merlin, no. "ACHOO!" Who was this woman giving predi-oh.
Oh please Botros, no.
It had to be, didn't it? This....person was here and interacting with staff and students as if she was meant to be here which could only mean one thing, yes? The only logical explanation is that this...person had taken advantage of Botros's delicate state and gotten herself hired! That had to be it. It was the only thing that made sense and she-
"Holy Hippogriffs!" Lost in thought, the headmistress hadn't noticed the...person walking over and she certainly hadn't expected that bony, terrifying finger so close to her body. Her own finger under her nose to stop another sneeze, face scrunched up towards the ceiling, Moxley took a moment. Once she was sure she had it under control, she tried her best not to look disgusted and spoke to the err..the um...person.
"The only thing that is making me ill at the moment is your perfume, I'm afraid. Such strong smells tend to get to me." Though something told Moxley that without the perfume, she'd be dealing with a much more unpleasant odor and the thought made her shrink back slightly. "You're here for Divination, then?"
...Which meant Moxley had to sit next to the woman for the remainder of the feast. BRILLIANT. Could she speak to the board of governors about this, or?

Tiara understood this reaction. "Extravagant at first, but soon you will just learn to think of it as home." And it likely would not take Plumpton.. er... Roderik that long. She really needed to watch it or her new colleague would think she was calling him fat. Can't let that slip out. "I am doing just fine, thank you," she said after his inquiries. Um.
Well.
That was... unexpected.
After getting over the shock of being practically doused in perfume, Tiara, always practical, whipped out her wand and began to siphon it out of her hair. "You're in rough shape, Flamsteed," she announced, stating the obvious. She directed her wand to him next, knowing how the man could get about his clothing. Tiara didn't want to spend the next ten minutes avoiding the man's meltdown.
The next thing she knew, the creature was pointing a threatening finger at their new Headmistress. Tiara half rose from her seat, but then she saw Meredith was actually welcoming the hag to staff. A new development she had not been made aware of! Tiara was a bit surprised, but she didn't let it show on her face. It wouldn't do for the students to see the staff like that.
Ansley hadn't been seated long when he heard several hello's, at least one of them he was sure was directed to him. "Ah, hello," he nodded at the man, reaching his hand to shake it. Yes, Paul Myers.. he was fairly certain he had met him at the pre-term staff meeting he had attended, though he was thankful for the reminder in name. Meeting so many people at once, it was at times difficult to match names with faces, though matching the position was a little easier.
"Ansley Finch," he returned in kind, just in case he needed the reminder as well. He noted the man was quite distinguished looking, though maybe not his choice in attire for the evening. It certainly wasn't Ansley's taste in fashion, but he could always appreciate other people's self-expression. "Are you a music man, Paul?" He nodded towards the banjo the man had brought with him to the table.

Oh, that was a Star Trek greeting, wasn't it? Ansley preferred Star Wars himself, though he did find it rather amusing that such words would come from the Astronomy professor. He was able to recognize the man as such, though the name he couldn't quite reach from the tip of his tongue. He had a tough time keeping names straight when he had so many of them to remember at the same time. "Fairly uneventful," he confirmed with a nod. "About what you'd expect from a train full of young people." Nothing he couldn't handle, though he couldn't help but to let his eyes drift to the entrance.
"Although there was a.. well, I'm pretty sure she was a hag, on the train." Of course, he knew what they were, but he hesitated to call her that just in the off chance she was just an eccentric old woman with poor hygiene. In that case, labeling her in that was would just be rude. "Is she employed here?" He wasn't sure why else she would be on the train, unless it was some sort of accident, but he also passed her in the entrance hall.

"Evening," Ansley nodded in greeting to the man before thinking over his question. He had been here many more times than once or twice, but he understood the meaning. "I suppose this is my second go around." Quite a different experience as a teacher than a student he would expect. He took the offered hand and shook it. Right. Ansley was a little better acquainted with this man, having met him before accepting the job here at Hogwarts, and his name came a little easier. "Evening, Leo," he returned the greeting with a smile. "I am.. I have my office and some of the rooms set up, though I do have a little more work to do." His name had been easier to remember and Ansley wasn't sure if it was because he had met him earlier in the summer outside of any staff meetings or putting together his classroom, or if because his name was Art. He chuckled lightly to himself at his own little joke, then remembered that he also had train chaperone duty. "How did the train ride find you?"
SPOILER!!: Roderik
Quote:
Another fellow (Julien) walked in, followed by another (Ansley). Though, the second one had walked in with some of the students, for Merlin knows what reason. He knew he could be here beforehand, yes? "Good evening. The name's Roderik Hirsch. Defence Against the Dark Arts." Yes, hello.
"Evening," Ansley nodded to the man friendly enough to greet him, though he squinted slightly in confusion. Had he not met him before at the staff meeting? Ansley supposed he couldn't be completely sure as there were many people new to him as well as much information to digest, but he figured he wouldn't have remembered his name anyway with as many as he needed to keep straight. It took him a little time to commit them to memory, and he was doing his best to do that now. "Ansley Finch.. History of Magic," he added, figuring the other man either didn't remember or didn't know already.
SPOILER!!: Meredith and Ursula
Quote:
Now Meredith would never hire anyone just because of their looks but it didn't hurt that some of the new staff looked like they were movie stars. Talk about dream-y. "Welcome, Roderik! So glad to have you here. Hope you're settling in okay." He seemed to be. "That goes for the two of you, as well!" She added as she smiled at Julien and Ansley, who were finding their seats.
Ansley returned the smile offered by the Headmistress. "Thank you, ma'am.. er, Meredith." That was okay to call her by her first name, wasn't it? He didn't know her all that well and wasn't sure, but he did call the principal at his old school by his first name. So it was likely alright? "Classroom is all ready to go," he confirmed with a nod. Of course there were a few minor details he needed to take care of, but lessons could still take place in spite of them.
And speaking of the hag he had seen on the train and asked the Astronomy professor about, his eyes followed her as she made her way to the staff table. "Someone's something of a pessimist," he chuckled to himself, hearing all her predictions of doom and gloom. But his eyes soon snapped to the Headmistress again. Divination? So she did work here?
