Its the first night of term and the common room has been decorated for a party. Not just any party though, its a "Welcome" party for all new and returning Slytherin students. The theme is Slytherin pride of course, so the decorations are green and silver. Plenty of balloons and snake-y streamers are hanging all around. A large banner hangs on the wall with the words 'Welcome to Slytherin' in large, ornate letters.
Music is playing loud enough to be festive but moderately enough that conversation can still be heard over it. There is plenty of food that is themed and/or shaped like snakes or colored Slytherin green. Is that silver frosting on that cake?
This first thing that catches your eye when you enter isn't the food though, it's the huge ball-pit across the room. You'll find no balls in this pit though as this is a pit filled with rubber snakes that have been charmed to look like the real thing. If you look close enough you might even see one moving. Oh wait, is that a real snake in there? Are you brave enough to go in and find out?
Whether you choose to play in the pit, or just socialize with your friends, be sure to have some food. No doubt most of you are hungry after that fiasco at the feast.
Most important, be sure to have some fun, and NO FOOD FIGHTS! Oh, and do make sure you're wearing your house colors! This is a Slytherin pride party after all. Whatever you do, don't make Healer Murdoch regret having this party for you.
OOC: All other common room threads are locked at this time. You can RP that your student went to their dorm room and got cleaned up and changed after the feast. You just won't be able to post them actually doing this. This thread will remain open for at least 3 or 4 days, possibly more depending on how much fun all of you are having. The other common room threads will be opened up for play wthin the week.

"You're the one who hid under the table, right? It's pretty nice down there, isn't it? I've hidden under that table myself."
Ariadne saw an older student step to the side and realized she must have been in everybody's way. Oops. And this girl was a prefect at that! So THIS was the girl prefect in her house. Ariadne had been wondering who she was! She was about to apologize for being right smack in the way, when the girl pretty much said the most embarrassing thing she could say right about now!
Ariadne gave a slight blush, remembering her venture underneath the house table in an effort to dodge the rain. "Yeah, that was me. What a way to be remembered on my first night here," she said with a laugh. Then she perked up. The prefect had been under the table, too?! Now Ariadne didn't feel so mortified. "You went under the table, too?! It is pretty cool down there. It keeps you out of the rain and all. What'd you go down there for?"
Hmm...well, finding their Head of House seemed like a no-go. Ariadne had scanned the small crowd of Slytherins and so far had only seen one adult--a man she had yet to meet. Ariadne figured the Healer was off helping someone. After all, a least one person had fainted at the feast and then there'd been the food fight.
So she'd just have to find somebody to talk to OR...there was always that ball pit. She still wasn't sure of it, though. Was anybody else even in it? Finding somebody to talk to seemed like the best option right now. Slytherins, though, were hard people to make friends with, Ariadne had gathered. Literally JUST when that thought let her mind, another girl who seemed Ariadne's age walked right up to her. Well, what do you know! Making friends suddenly seemed a lot easier!
"Hey! I'm Ariadne Greingoth," she said. "I'm a first year." She narrowed her eyes a little as she made a quick assessment of the girl before her. "Are you new here, too?" Ariadne wouldn't know since this was the first time she'd ever seen the girl. She DID know that she was getting really hungry by this point. Maybe she'd edge her way over to the food soon.
"Nice to meet you Ariadne! And yes, I'm a first year too." Jay replied with a huge smirk. She was actually doing that thing called socializing!? This was a huge shock!! But it was an extremely good one! Never know, maybe between her and her sister, she'd be the popular one at this school. If not that was totally fine. After all between the two, she was more or the athleteish type of person. Like her sister, Ryland, preferred to be at the mall shopping with friends, but Jay preferred to be outside playing football (or to the Americans, soccer), and american football, and rugby.
But, nevertheless, Jay wouldn't mind a change. Well, that's not true. She'd only want it to be a slight change. Just on her side though. The day her sister was actually outside playing a sport or some other kind of physical activity is the day when the entire world has earthquakes. Hurricanes and tornadoes strike through the land. Riots in every single well known city!
Basically, the day that Jay would catch Ryland outside, is the day the world would end.
But anyways...
Looking towards the pit, Jay told Ariadne "I'll jump in if you jump in!"
Whoaaa, this boy could read minds! Either that, or he'd followed her gaze and guessed exactly what she was thinking. Either way, he was good at that kind of thing! "I want to jump in so badly, but I don't know either!" she said, eyeing the ball pit. "Do you think you could me find out?" He was older, and even if she didn't know whether he was new to the school or not, just his age made him the perfect candidate. Maybe he'd dive on in and see for himself!
She smiled at his welcome. "Thanks! I'm Ariadne Greingoth," she said. And YES! There was plenty to eat and drink, and she was starving! But first, the ball pit! Err...snake pit?
"It's very nice to meet you" He says.
Edging over towards the pit, Alex began to look closer. Seeing what definitely looked like snakes moving, his heart gave a flutter. He gasped (in a way that wasn't visible or audible to others). Turning around to Ariadne, Alex forced a smile. He wasn't scared of snakes, in fact he loved them. He was however scared of embarrassment and/or looking silly and since he was constantly unable to foresee these moments in time he did indeed look silly he was in a permanent yet mild state of fear.
He opened his mouth. "I'm not so sure if it's..." The words had barely left his lips when Alex stumbled upon his left foot with the right. Falling backwards Alex attempted to regain control of the situation and prove himself so he spread his arms like a bird's wings, smiled and yelled "See you on the other side".
Of course the fall was a mere 3 feet and so all of the above happened at a tremendous speed. It had felt to Alex though as if in slow motion. Whether the snakes were real or no still remained to be determined however he was having fun and never one to fully investigate a snake (whatever that meant) but being knowledgeable enough to know they were harmless. He pulled himself back up. Walked over to Ariadne, said shakily "See nothing to it. Now go for it, nothing ventured nothing gained. Enjoy and we can speak more later if I see you around".
Alex was barely able to hold his quivering self together but managed to the best of his abilities to at least walk far enough away before collapsing.

The fifth year went down to the common room to see a ball-pit full of fake snakes. That was so cool! Or was this some kind of punishment for the food fight? He was sure he was immune because he was a prefect. Ehem. Hugo saw the groundskeeper, "Those are fake, right?"
There were two other people in the room. Dot and a boy. He still wondered what was her purpose behind his change of hair color. "We look like brother and sister" except for the freckles. And said hello to the boy, "What's up? Oliver, right?" he wasn't good with names. Sometimes.
After his nerve wracking encounter with the snake pit Alex slumped into a seat at the corner of the room. He noticed that there was another boy sitting slightly to the left of him. It felt weird to be surrounded by students so much older than her, though she felt she liked it. She'd never quite felt her age.
Before she could introduce herself, a boy had come up between them. He greeted the girl on his other side, and Altha noted that her name was Hady. Just as she'd stowed this in her memory, she learned the boys name was Oliver. Oliver welcomed Altha with a warm smile- something Altha felt she could never pull off. Oliver's demeanor was quite different than her own, at least based off their first few seconds of interaction.
"Altha, thanks," she nodded to him. His gaze had then fallen onto the ball pit, and Altha followed his lead. His mind seemed to be working out whether or not to jump in, or if the snakes were real, or something of the like, presumably. Seeing as Oliver seemed to come across as a lot more confident than any first year could possibly be, Altha decided to ask his thoughts. "D'you think they're re-"
And before she could finish the question, her arm was linked with Oliver's, and Altha felt her body sliding between various textures of the ball pit. Her free arm was to her mouth, surprising her urge to scream out of surprise. But she made no noise, and instead felt the third smile of the day creep across her face, uncharacteristicly. "I guess we'll find out ourselves now," she said with a smirk, turning towards Oliver's direction and looking around him for Hady.

Hady grinned just a little bit more at the older man. "I'm actually quite hungry yes but I think there's a need to check out this snake pit thing first," she gave a small laugh. It wasn't so much a need really but more of something she wanted to do. Balls pits were just loads of fun no matter what age you are and this was even better being it had snakes in it!
Hazel eyes were no doubt scanning the snake pit for another moving about. Those snakes looked incredibly real and if one or two of them were moving about she wouldn't want to smush them! Picking up two snakes she gently tossed it at Oliver with a small grin, the other snake she draped around her neck. It reminded her of her snake back home only much smaller and much more lightly. Now ere was their Head of House she wanted to ask her something...
Olly laughed as both girls toppled in after him. He heard the firstie wondering about whether or not they were real just before they found out for themselves. They felt weird, like not completely fake but he could tell they weren't real either. He snatched up the one Hady had thrown at him and draped it over his shoulders just like she had done. He was a snake whisperer now.
"I'm pretty good," he said in response to Hady's question. "And you? Have a good summer?" The typical back-to-school questions and all that. They were fine, but not exactly the most exciting. Olly dove into the sea of snakes for a moment before resurfacing closer to the first year.
"Nice to meet you Altha," he said with a grin. "How was your sorting? Were you nervous? Did you have any expectations?"

Oliver had now inched closer to Altha, posing more than one question about her sorting. The grin fell from her face slowly as she contemplated how to answer the questions. The Slytherins that she had met so far didn't seem like 'doubtful snakes'. It almost felt like all of them were so sure of their house, and yet here was Altha. A girl who'd been completely caught off guard by her sorting.
"Nervous?" she laughed. She could be totally honest with this question. "I can't say I was, no." Now the gears were turning, and she made the decision to continue her total honesty. "I didn't think I'd be sorted into Slytherin," her eyes fell to the ball pit, and she became immediately aware of it. Picking her eyes back up, she focused directly on Oliver's eyes. "I never thought about being sorted anywhere aside from Gryffindor, because my entire family comes from Gryffindor," she shrugged, trying her best to keep her usual calm manner.
With the desire to sway the topic from her sorting, Altha raised her voice a little to be sure Hady could hear her. "So you two clearly aren't first years. What years are you in?"

Why had her smile fallen away? It might have just been a coincidence that it happened around the same time Olly asked about her sorting. Was she upset about being in Slytherin? Not that Olly was judging at all, remembering the tears over his own sorting just a year earlier. He scooted even closer to Altha, making sure he would be able to hear what she said next over the noise of the party. He was interested in what she was going to say.
"I didn't think I'd be a Slytherin either," he declared. "Well, not at the time of my sorting. Before then I had no idea where I would go, and I would be excited to go anywhere. But my sister went first, we're triplets, and she got sorted into Gryffindor. So I knew that's where I would go because we go everywhere together. But I didn't." He frowned. It still wasn't something he was completely okay with. Sure, he loved Slytherin and all, but he missed Ellery. He liked being with her all the time, that's just how they were. But this was a party, and he should be having fun and not mope around, so he moved on from the story of his own sorting and refocused onto Altha's.
"Do you have a big family?" He asked. "Any siblings here at Hogwarts?" He could definitely understand wanting to be in the same house as her family, but he knew that she would soon love Slytherin. "I'm a second year."
Running a hand through her hair to fix it as she walked into the Common Room, Maggie grinned at all the decorations. Was this a party? Yes? It looked AWESOME! Should she go change out of her robes maybe? Put on something a little more festive? A little more Slytherin Pride-y? A green dress maybe? A tiara? Preferably both?
Hmm.
The Groundskeeper got a smile, as did the other people who had arrived before her, while she made her way over towards the dorms. Oliver....Dot....Hugo....wait? Maggie stopped as her eyes fell on the fellow FIFTH year and she gave him a surprised look. "What is UP with your hair?" All thoughts of changing forgotten (for now), she quickly walked over to Hugo, all the while eying his hair.
"Is this an actual fashion choice or...?" Had someone pranked him? Where was Dante?
People was joining the green party and everyone should be here 'cause there was food and ball pit which he was tempted to jump in. Maybe later.
"Don't you like it?" said Hugo and flipped his hair. So beautiful. "I was tired of my natural color so, I changed it" suuuure. He waited to see Maggie's reaction. "I'm kidding. Dot did it during the feast. To trick what the hag told her, something like that" he shrugged.

She laughed quietly, lightly stroking the smooth skin of the fake snake resting around her neck. Her eyes drifted between Olly and Altha for a second before returning to the boy as he spoke. "It was pretty good. Not to much happened this year but it was fun nonetheless." Her summers didn't need to be filled with daily entertainment for her to enjoy them.
As questions were sent towards their new fellow snake Hady couldn't help but glance the smaller girls way. The way the kids smile faltered wasn't the best sign. Maybe she hadn't wanted to be in Slytherin?
Listening quietly she let Altha finish speaking. So her whole family were lions so therefore that's where she had expected to find herself. Understandable. It happened to LOTS of them. "That happens Altha. The hat though knows deep down what house will suit you best. If not tomorrow in time you'll soon see that where you are now is where you belong." This being said she offered the girl a genuine Slytherin grin. "Let me tell you something though. I wasn't supposed to be a snake either. The hat wanted me in a different house but I refused...insisted this is where I had to be." No other house would do. Not then and not now.
"I'm a fifth year."

Maggie wrinkled her nose a little and reached up to give his hair a flick. "You're ginger!" Like, that was enough of a reason for her not to like it. Apparently Dot seemed to agree seeing as she changed Hugo's hair back to its original color.
Phew.
"Congrats on the badge by the way." Maggie poked his chest lightly, a smirk playing around her lips. She was extremely glad that one of the boys in her year had been made Prefect. Would be useful. And easy, according to Kaycee at least.

The quick drop in her eyes hadn't disguised what Altha had been feeling at the sorting. At first, she wasn't happy about this, but then, as Oliver and Hady talked to her, she felt okay with it.
The whole situation Oliver had with his sister was only somewhat similar to Altha's with her brother. "Triplets! So they both went to Gryffindor?" Altha was surprised by the size of Oliver's family already, and who knew if he had more siblings.
"Not a big family, no... I've got one brother here, he's a fifth year." she didn't bother looking to Hady to see if she knew him. Even though they were in the same year, Altha knew Graham hadn't a clue the name of even one Slytherin. Looking at Oliver, Altha was tempted to ask how long it had taken for him to accept and come to like Slytherin. But she didn't- she figured now wasn't the time to get too serious, especially just having met the boy. Instead, she did her best to change the topic from her own sorting.
Now she turned to Hady; her sorting was definitely different. "You mean you argued with the hat? Ha!" Altha smirked in a sort of impressed way. "What house did the hat want you in?" she was smiling out of curiosity now, and added,"And d'you have any siblings here?"

Obviously, thirteen was not too big and old for ball pits. Especially snake pits. Cal dove in and out of the pit, popping out to this older girl (Ilia). "HI!" Two seconds later, he disappeared back under the pit and out again to spook the house elf (Toodles). "HI!"
Toddles hears lots of parties. Toddles sees party has ball pit. Toddles likes ball pits. Toddles will steal balls. Yes Toddles wills. Toddles goes sneakily. Heheehe. Toddles runs and gets ball. Toddles jumps into ball pit yes Toddles does.

What was that pop???? She looked around, but briefly. Ilia had several students nearly land on her since her decision to climb into the then empty snake pit. To be one of the older, taller students in the ball pit seemed to make you an accidental target. As the other students entering seemed to grow in size and number, she contemplated getting out of the pit, but temporarily settled for sticking close to the edge. The boy that nearly collided with her the closest, was now popping in and out of the snakes as if perhaps he was part dolphin. His enthusiastic 'HI!' made her eyes widen in surprise a little, but the blonde smiled at the younger boy. "Hello."The sixteen year old returned the greeting with a giggle as she watched him go.
Interesting.....did they have a house elf guest? Ilia smiled and waved to the elf, watching as the boy then popped back out in front of it. Hopefully his enthusiasm didn't startle the elf too much. She really had a fondness for house elves.

POP!
Toddles hears lots of parties. Toddles sees party has ball pit. Toddles likes ball pits. Toddles will steal balls. Yes Toddles wills. Toddles goes sneakily. Heheehe. Toddles runs and gets ball. Toddles jumps into ball pit yes Toddles does.
Hady didn't comment on the triplets thing. She remembered quite well from last term the small conversation she had, had with Olly up in the Owlery about his siblings and how one of them wasn't here at Hogwarts. Anyhow it wasn't her family life to tell she she simply gave Olly a soft smile.
Oh now wait a second right there first year girly. She had a brother in fifth year? Hady's gaze swept over Altha for a moment and then once again trying to see if she could work out who her sibling just might be. She couldn't. "Erm who is your brother?" If she didn't know him by name maybe she at least knew him in passing or something.
"Yes, kind of," she replied with a light laugh. "Honestly I'm not even sure where he was going to place him. I think either Ravenclaw because of my love of knowledge or Hufflepuff because of how caring and such I tend to be. Really any house probably would've worked but I wanted to be in Slytherin." And here she was. Nothing at all wrong in requesting what you wanted. As for siblings no. No she didn't. The fifth year shook her head. "Technically no. I don't have any siblings of my own but I do have some incredibly close friends here who are like my siblings and I have a cousin who will be coming here when I graduate, he's only eight right now." So yeah Hogwarts be on the look out for him!
Looking between Altha and Oliver there was suddenly a very loud POP. Instantly looking around the common room she grinned the very second she noticed what it was or rather who it was. Toddles had come to join them and he was jumping into the ball/snake pit! Aaww wasn't he just the bestest? "Hi Toddles! Nice of you to join us!"

Sarah Oberlin walked into the Slytherin and looked around at all of the students who were already there, socializing. Setting her book bag on the floor at the end of the nearest couch, she made her way over to the--was that a snake pit? Her eyebrows shot up into her bangs; she'd never seen a snake pit quite like this one. Her stomach rumbled just then, putting an end to any ideas she might have had of joining her fellow Slytherins in the pit. She wasted no time in going over to the food table and grabbing a plate, quickly piling it up with food. As she didn't really know anyone, she chose a table that didn't have anyone else sitting at it and began eating, relieved to finally have something in her stomach. It had been a long time since that fiasco in the Great Hall, and she was famished. Suddenly remembering something in her book bag that she needed to read, she got up, collected the bag, then made her way back to the table. Looking up and noting that everyone else was preoccupied with their own conversations and other such activities, she pulled out a letter she'd gotten from her parents earlier that day reminding her to be sure to socialize with other students during her seven years at Hogwarts.
Why do they always tell me stuff like this? she thought, sighing. It's getting really old.
She slapped the letter onto the table and focused on eating, trying to think of what class was bound to give her homework first.

Olly just grinned at Hady as she answered his question about her summer. He felt the same. It wasn't like he had done some exciting, but he had enjoyed himself. He didn't say more, though, because the older girl had her own input to make first year Altha feel better about her sorting. He hadn't heard that story about Hady's story before and it interested him. He should have argued more with the hat when it had separated him from Ellery. But he had been too stunned at the time to really do much of anything. "What house did it want to put you in?" He asked curiously.
His attention was turned back to Altha when she spoke about him family. She made the assumption that most did, that Colin also attended Hogwarts. "Er, no. My brother Colin doesn't go to Hogwarts," he explained. "He's home schooled by our dads." His tone remained as friendly as ever, not defensive like Ellery's usually did when she talked about their family. But Olly could get just as defensive just as quickly if there was reason.

Oh no! The rubber snakes had scared him! Poor elfsie! "It's alright Toddles these are only fake toy snakes. You can come back in and play with us if you like?" Hady gave him a small smile and gestured for him to join them in the pit. Just then though she had an idea and pulled her wand from it's holster on her wrist, aimed it at one of the rubber snakes and with a wave and quietly but clearly spoke charm changed the rubber thing into a brightly colored green ball.
"Here Toddles you can have this," she called to him wadding through the snake pit and over to the side as she held the small rubber ball out for him to take.

Ohh, so this was another first year girl! Ariadne had been wondering where they all were. She'd only met two others so far, and this girl made the third. "So we're going to be dorm mates!" she exclaimed. "I think there's four of us in there, unless I haven't met any of the others." She was meeting the people she'd live with each year of her life for the next seven years. Hopefully none of them snored really, really loudly.
She'd jump in if Ariadne did? She meant the... "You mean the snake pit?" she asked. "I don't know..." She definitely hadn't wanted to go first, and so far, nobody else had dared to jump in. "They look so real, don't they?" she asked. Then before she knew what was going to happen, so she saw a house elf cannon ball itself into the snake pit. "WHOA! That house elf just jumped right on in!"

Ariadne turned to the older student she'd been talking to earlier. "It's nice to meet you, too!" she said. He had edged toward the snake pit, so Ariadne sort of followed behind him. She peered around him to get a better look. When he gasped, she jumped back a little and looked at him with a wide-eyed expression. "What did you see in there?! Are they REAL?!" she asked.
Apparently, he wasn't sure, but then he plummeted into the pit anyway. There were some major Gryffindor-like Slytherins in here tonight! She edged closer and tried to get a good look to see if he was dead or alive in there. He didn't stay for very long, which meant the snakes were either real, or the pit was just boring after all. Apparently, he thought Ariadne was going to have a go of it, too, but he didn't look so good. She'd have to think about this one a little more. "Right. Glad you had fun." Maybe? "I'll see you around."

Once the Slytherin table and surrounding area had finally been cleaned, Healer Murdoch made her way to the common room with the cleaning crew following.
Once they were all inside she looked around happy to see everyone having fun, and not throwing food around. "Dante, because you cleaned without giving me any sass, and because you didn't actually throw any food, I am allowing you to join the party. Just know I will be keeping an eye on you." As for Colt and Mason, "You two can have a seat over there," she said pointing to the corner with two uncomfortable looking chairs in it. 'If you're hungry you can grab some food on the way to your seat. Drop even one little crumb on the floor though and you'll think the cleaning you just did was child's play." Not that Mason did any cleaning.
Hearing that voice, Cece looked over at the snake pit. Why was that house elf in the pit playing around? "Toddles! Your job here is not to play around! I suggest you stay out of that pit and do the job you were sent here to do!" And that was to make sure the food table was full of food at all times. After that fiasco of a feast, she wanted to make sure the students didn't go to bed hungry.
Well thank merlin he did not have to clean this common room as well. Well he guessed he should thank Dot and Hugo for there not being a mess and oh man Hugo's hair was back to being blonde. Well that stunk. He was going to make fun of him some more. Oh well he hoped Maggie got in a few remarks before it got turned back.
"Yes, Ma'am. I will just stick by Hugo the rest of the night"
And oh look a house elf was here. Interesting but that was it. He did not care much about house elves unless he wanted food. Then they were his best friends. Oh look there was Eureka's cousin. Huh she is in slytherin.
But enough about time to get food. Since he was allowed and all.

Colt followed Murdoch to the common room. He cleaned up pretty well he thought. He was shocked Mason didn't do anything. He knew Murdoch wasn't gonna let that slide. He heard Murdoch let Dante join the party. Kudos to him. He shrugged and decided to take some food. He was kind of hungry. He went over to the buffet table and got some food. He filled his plate pretty fully and then got some pumpkin juice for a beverage. Once he was finished, he went over to the seat in the corner as Murdoch said and began to eat. Well least he had something to do to occupy his time.
He had to make sure he didn't drop a single crumb but how was the possible? He was gonna clean up his area anyways. He continued to eat like he should and watched everyone in the ball pit. He saw Toddles and he couldn't help but laugh. Now this was entertainment! Man he was having the time of his life right now. Plus this is what he would be doing anyways.

The door to the common room opened, and even though the sound of everybody talking and having fun pretty much echoed throughout the room, Ariadne still noticed the Healer come in. She smiled at the woman and simply said, "Hello, Healer Murdoch," but otherwise said nothing. Their Head of House looked pretty mad, and Ariadne kind of figured now wasn't really a good time to talk. Merlin! Both times she'd managed to see Healer Murdoch, it hadn't been a good time to say hello. Ariadne was super scared to interrupt people getting into trouble, so silence it would mostly be for now.

"Toddles bad elf...." BANG!
"Toddles bad...."
BANG!
The poor elf wasn't taking it much better either. Ariadne looked at him with widened eyes as he banged his head with a plate as punishment for whatever he thought he'd done. "Hey! Wait!" she said, grabbing a hold of the plate. "You're going to hurt yourself! Don't worry, you've been a good elf." She understood why Healer Murdoch was upset, too. Ariadne was raised in a family who used house elves for work around the house. She knew it was important for them to behave, too.
