Before we know it, the train will be pulling into Kings Cross Station ready to take all you eager students back to Hogwarts, your home for the next nine months. With a new term comes a new chat so let's wave goodbye to the Term 41 school chat and say hello to the shiny new Term 42 school chat.
With the quiet, drama and death free term we just had I'm sure everyone is ready to head back to school. It's a proven fact now that we can have a whole school term pass by with nothing bad happening. This leads to the question. Can we have another quiet term where there are no threats of students dying or danger lurking around every corner? Will Headmaster Botros return or has the old guy gone and lost his mind after just one term leading the school (during one of the quieter terms)? With the departure of professors Dakest, Culloden and Morgan, will we find someone new sitting in their seats or will they be empty like the Care of Magical Creatures seat was at the beginning of last term?
There are just so many things to discuss here while you wait for the new term to start, so what are you waiting for? Go. Chat. Speculate. But most important, have FUN!

That leads me to believe you can't technically be in the negatives, as you have to have points to lose them.

Nah I don't think the black crystals makes sense with what Anna's canon quotes are saying. I think it's more like, the hour glass will sit empty for a long time, until Gryffindor has won more points than they've lost. Say they earn 200 points in the next two weeks. Over the course of that two weeks, I think no rubies would fall into their lower hourglass until they've recouped the -105 and then earned at least one point more. You know? Just my two cents.
As for how the students can tell how many points they have... well, they don't exactly know just by looking. The hourglasses are just charmed to know.

If we went solely by HP Canon though, according to those quotes, we wouldn't be in the negative at all, like ever. At least if we go by OOTP HP Canon & not HBP Canon, because they go against each other in and of themselves.
And SS Canon isn't necessarily 100% HP Canon either, which is why I asked. | |

I think SS is only "in the negatives" because those are little automatic boxes that just represent the hourglasses as we're playing all online and we all know it xD I mean, I'm sure Harry couldn't see exactly how many points Hermione earned, as compared to how many Neville earned, but we can see who the top points earners are in each house....
