Default Restricted Section

The restricted section of the library is as the name implies restricted. In this roped off and locked section you will find old fragile books and tomes. Some of the texts are dark and dangerous and therefore cannot be kept where just anyone can get a hold of them. Should you need to access to this area to retrieve a book, you need to seek out the librarian; Mr Kitridge with a signed permission slip from a professor. This will allow you to obtain the book you need.

Do not enter the restricted section without permission . It is not advisable and any students found in the restricted section without permission will be punished. Mr Kitridge is happy to help but some books are just dangerous and too dark.

The fact that she had been referring to his not dropping the subject - that is, of Occlumency and Legilimency - did not at all occur to him.

When he looked up again, Genny Tate's face was closer than it had been before. Daxton gave a minuscule jolt of surprise and leaned back to make up for it the sudden decreased space between them, however small, and squinted suspiciously at her. A moment passed, and then another, and Daxton only peered at the Gryffindor, considering her. Finally, he gave a simple nod of his head and showed her the other side of the note.

'We are going to see if we can get in first. If we can, we go in, if we cannot, we look from the entrance or find another way in.

If we get caught, I will do the explaining. Do not say anything.'

Sliding off the table and to his still bare feet, Daxton gathered his things and gestured at Genny Tate to come with him. First, though, he would need to get rid of the incriminating parchment. Just in case.
"I wish you told me before this, I would've dressed properly." She whispered, grinning from ear to ear and hurrying after him with her backpack sliding onto her small shoulders again. Sandwiched squished back into the plastic bag and inside her bag. They did not get caught for having food inside the library why on earth would they get caught for going by the Restricted Section? They were obviously good at this sneaking thing.

Naturally, Genny did not say anything to his orders. They sounded fine now, but she wasn't going to make any promises. If anyone caught them, she sure as hell was not going to wait for him to write something down as an explanation. She can explain just as much as him.

"Oooooh," her whisper must've reached his ears as fast as it went out of her mouth considering how close she was walking by his shoulder. "Do you think this rope is cursed?" Because securing something with a plain, normal rope was absurd.

Incriminating evidence all done and disposed of, Daxton led the way to the Restricted Section. What Genny Tate said made very little sense to him, which, while not unusual, was frustrating. He was much smarter than her, and so should understand whatever her little Gryffindor brain could come up with. The problem was that their brains seemed to work in such different ways that it was difficult to get on her level. But that was not an adequate excuse for Daxton. He wanted to understand everything, and it was stupid that something might be too simple. It did not make sense. In any case, he could not for the life of him work out what Genny Tate had meant by dressing 'properly'. She looked dressed enough to him, and there was no specific outfit that he knew of meant solely for trespassing into forbidden areas of school libraries.

Trying not to think too much about that, Daxton stepped up to the roped off section, Genny Tate by his side. It was the closest he had gotten to the Restricted Section, having thought it wise to steer clear of the place in the past. There were only so many times one could probably get caught around here without raising too much suspicion.

Genny Tate had a good point about the rope, and Daxton stopped to stare at it for a moment, as though he might spy traces of magic around it, which he knew would not be the case. It looked fairly ordinary to him, innocuous, but that meant nothing. Likelihood was that there was some sort of spell on it, a boundary at the very least. He cast a side glance to Genny Tate, considering giving her a shove forward (he could play it off as an accident, surely, as she was standing so close) to see if the rope was indeed under any magical effects. He decided against the shove in the end, purely because there was not exactly a surplus of other students willing to do as Daxton asked in his quest for knowledge. But he was not going to test the rope. The Gryffindor would still come in handy in that respect, just hopefully as the result of coercion.

Daxton crouched down, peering at the rope again, and then back up at the books in the Restricted Section. From where he stood, he could see some of the titles of the books on the shelves, tantalisingly just out of reach. They would need to know if they could get in, but first... Daxton straightened and moved down the rope little, squinting to see as many of the books as he could, trying to spot a title that may be of use to him. But it was no use; they needed a closer look, and even if they could see the right books, it would mean nothing if they could not get them. Glancing back at Genny Tate, Daxton gestured forward with a nod of his head, past the rope and towards the illicit books, hoping to convey the message 'let's go'.

And he might follow, too. Assuming there was no danger in crossing the boundary of the Restricted Section, proved by a Gryffindor guinea pig first year. But at the same time, he found it difficult to believe that even Genny Tate would be quite so willing to head straight inside.

Genny did not expect to get an answer from him, she knew him that much so far. So, she stared at the rope trying to figure out if it was in any way specially secured. It looked ordinary. This was a tough one. "Don't you know some spells that uncover magic? You read books." Which was why they were here in the first place. Pft. With a shake of her head, she added, "I knew we should've brought David along." Only the Ravenclaw was spineless-- kind and sweet but spineless.

And off Daxie went staring at the books from where they stood. Genny watched him (she was 0 interested in the books no matter how heavily chained they were) trying to figure out if the book he wanted was somewhere visible from here. His face expressions did not change, though, and so she went back to wandering up and down the rope trying to figure out a way in.

... huh? He wanted to go in? Really? Holding his gaze for a moment, Genny's brain produced what she considered the best idea to let them in. She dropped her backpack and fished out the plastic bag with the sandwiches in. "I'm not going near that rope before we test it." She told him urgently, her voice as low as before. Looking around them quickly, she gently tossed the bag in the direction of the section over the rope expecting it to erupt in a fireball.

She was close. The plastic bag made a sizzling sound as it flew back and hit her in the head. "Ow!" And eye.

Daxton had heard that, and he did not know what was so special about David Truebridge anyway. If his dormmate would have been any help, Daxton would have brought him along. As it was, he was regretting even bringing Genny Tate, if purely for the fact that she thought that David Truebridge would make their quest go any quicker. Even if he would, Daxton did not want to let him in on the secret. If anyone found out he was trying to learn Legilimency, they might try to learn Occlumency to block him out, and then what would be the point? Or the mind-readers out there might become aware that he was learning to defend his mind against them. He could not let that happen.

He ignored Genny Tate for the time being. She had apparently neglected to realise that with a lack of verbal ability, there also came a lack of aptitude for spells. It would be at least another year or two before Daxton perfected non-verbal casting, let alone for a spell that would lift any sort of magic placed around somewhere like this, specifically designed to keep students at bay.

Just as Daxton had suspected, Genny Tate was not quite so stupid as to go charging straight in, which was satisfying and disappointing at the same time. Being proved right was always favourable, but it made matters tricky and long-winded. He stood there, folded his arms over his chest, and watched what the Gryffindor did next, bright blue eyes tracking the bag of sandwiches as it soared through the air... and then back again.

The ghost of a smile passed over Daxton's features. That had been comical, even if it did prove they could not cross the rope, and the first year getting bopped on the head had been doubly amusing. He kept his eyes on Genny Tate, lips pressed tightly together to suppress any sort of grin, but found himself letting out a slight exhale of laughter as he replayed the moment in his mind.

The problem was, now he was even more tempted to try and nudge her into the rope, just to see what would happen. Simply imagining the outcome frankly would not suffice, but he might need her yet. Daxton needed to resist, despite how entertaining it would be, and work out where they should go from here. He looked back up at the books they could see from their vantage point, and chewed habitually at his lower lip.
