Art was standing behind his desk with Madame Curie perched on his left shoulder. He was organising all of the ingredients into an order which would allow his students to easily come to the desk when it was time and collect them. His white lab coat was on, and all of his personal equipment was set up ready to be used, to brew the potion today.
As it was nearing 10:30, he opened the door to allow the students to come in and get ready for class.
Ingredients
• 6 cups water
• 15 fresh Belladonna leaves
• 3 dried Fluxweed sprigs, roughly crushed in mortar and pestle (picked during a full moon, and dried over one week)
• 0.5mL Wormwood essence
• 2Tbsp Lacewing flies
• 1tsp honey
• 1tsp water
• 0.1mL Boomslang venom
• 1 crushed Unicorn Horn
• 1 measure of your animal
Method
1. Add 6 cups of water to you cauldron, and light a small flame. Simmer the water for 5 minutes to slowly heat to an appropriate temperature
2. Pluck the 15 leaves of Belladonna from the sprigs, will need approximately 2 sprigs, and add them to the cauldron once five minutes is up
3. Gather the 3 sprigs of dried Fluxweed, and roughly crush in mortar and pestle. Only enough to increase the surface area, then add to the cauldron
4. Simmer for a further 3 minutes
5. Stir with a wooden stirrer, three times, clockwise
6. Measure, with a 1ml syringe, your Wormwood essence, and add to the cauldron.
7. Measure 0.1mL Boomslang venom in a different syringe and place to the side for a moment
8. Clean the mortar and pestle, add one unicorn horn, and crush it to a fine powder, then add the Boomslang venom. Mix together (it will not make a paste) and set aside for three minutes, then add to the cauldron.
9. Simmer the cauldron for three minutes, then stir three times, clockwise

Her mortar and pestle were cleaned for a third time and Esme set about adding two tablespoons of Lacewing flies - making a face while she did so. Insects weren't exactly her favourite things but at least they didn't scare her the same way that birds did. They were just rather gross on the most part. Especially the creepy crawlies. Butterflies were pretty and liked flowers, so she was rather fond of them. Thank Merlin the flies were dead and couldn't fly about and get in her face because that would drive her nuts at the best of times.
A teaspoon of honey was added to the flies, followed by a teaspoon of water. Everything got crushed together until it formed a smooth paste. At least this was less work than grounding up the unicorn horn had been, but honey was sticky and it had been hard making sure that it had ended up where it had supposed to go as opposed to onto her skin and clothes.
Carefully she added the paste to her cauldron.

ANIMAL WHISPERER POTION
Ingredients 6 cups water
15 fresh Belladonna leaves
3 dried Fluxweed sprigs, roughly crushed in mortar and pestle (picked during a full moon, and dried over one week)
0.5mL Wormwood essence
2Tbsp Lacewing flies
1tsp honey
1tsp water
0.1mL Boomslang venom
1 crushed Unicorn Horn
1 cup of Armadillo Bile
15g Ginger, crushed
1 Shrivelfig, scooped out seeds
1 measure of your animal
Method 1. Add 6 cups of water to you cauldron, and light a small flame. Simmer the water for 5 minutes to slowly heat to an appropriate temperature
2. Pluck the 15 leaves of Belladonna from the sprigs, will need approximately 2 sprigs, and add them to the cauldron once five minutes is up
3. Gather the 3 sprigs of dried Fluxweed, and roughly crush in mortar and pestle. Only enough to increase the surface area, then add to the cauldron
4. Simmer for a further 3 minutes
5. Stir with a wooden stirrer, three times, clockwise
6. Measure, with a 1ml syringe, your Wormwood essence, and add to the cauldron.
7. Measure 0.1mL Boomslang venom in a different syringe and place to the side for a moment

12. Add one measure of your animal’s fur or, if a toad, a gentle scraping from head, down the body with your metal stirrer, then stir three times into the cauldron. Only two individual hairs needed for a rat or a cat, and for an owl, cut the tip of one feather, OR stroke your owl until a small feather separates from the owl (do NOT pluck the feather). Stir with wooden stirrer three times clockwise, and leave for six minutes to simmer.
13. Scoop out the liquid into your phials and discard the stewed ingredients.
14. Drink one 10ml phial of potion and let the potion set in until you start to sense your animal speaking to you.
After his three minutes were up, he stopped stirring, and set his timer for 10 minutes. Austin took a deep breath and turned to Athena. She was happily settled into his cage. The last thing he wanted was to hurt her, and he knew she wouldn't be happy if he just plucked a feather from her. Actually it might hurt if he did that. No, he had to get it some other way. Professor Newton suggested cutting some of the feather parts off, but he wasn't so sure about that either. Athena was proud of her feathers, and the last thing he wanted to do was upset her. Especially if this was one of his few shots to understand what she was thinking. No, what he needed to do was pet her until one of her feathers came out naturally. That was probably one of the safest ways.
Unlocking the cage, Austin reached into it and held his hand out in front of his pet. He knew this way, the option for petting was up to her. If she didn't want to be pet, she could just turn away. Thankfully, today was not that day. Today, Athena nuzzled her head into his hand. This was her way of saying petting was okay today. Stroking her head and back, she hooted happily. And after a minute or so, a feather popped out. "Thanks Athena." He gave one last scratch under her beak, closed the cage, and turned back to his cauldron.
Professor Newton said that they weren't going to need the "stem" part of the feather, so he did his best to trim the fuzzy parts. Once he was satisfied, he put them in his cauldron, and began stirring with a clean wooden stirrer. "One.. Two.. Three times clockwise. Now just set the timer for six minutes... and there we go!" All he had left to do was wait.

Right.. It was time to stir the potion slowly for three minutes..

Azura set her timer for three minutes and then started to stir.. Clockwise, slowly. She counted to 8 as she made one stir around the cauldron and then 8 again as she stirred again. That seemed to be a good pace, so she kept up her eight count as she stirred for the three minutes..
Once her timer dinged, she pulled out she stirrer and set it aside and set her timer for ten minutes as she started to clean things up a bit..
She took her left over ingredients back to the front and fully cleaned her workstation as she waited.
After his timer went off, the only thing left to do was fill his phial. He didn't have to worry about measuring out 10 mL, mainly because that's how much his glass phial held. Looking around at his laid out equipment, he found a ladle with a small spout on it. The teen scooped out the mixture and filled his phial with it. Once he was sure his phial was full, he drank from it.
Austin knew the potion wouldn't work right away, so in the mean time, he cleaned out his cauldron. He took out the ingredients by hand and dumped them into the trash. The professor said they weren't needed, so hopefully they weren't. He used a "Scourgify" on his cauldron, and all of his tools knowing they weren't needed anymore. Professor Newton said that they could keep the syringes if they didn't have any in their kit, and Austin was going to take him up on that offer. They were really handy, especially at getting the smaller measurements. Before he would just guess the measures, only because anything that small didn't effect the potion that much.

Look at that…another three minute timeline. Since she had managed to catch up, Olivia was trying to match up with the steps when Professor Newton did them himself. Grabbing the handle of her stirring rod still inside her cauldron she started to slowly stir the potion clockwise as instructed. She tried counting out seconds in her head at first, eventually just giving up and absently stirring at a slow pace around the cauldron. And then when the professor’s timer went off signaling the end of the three minutes, she stopped.
And now a wait.
A loooooong wait.
Olivia was definitely going to follow Newton’s advice and start cleaning up as she waited. Ten minutes was a bit to wait and do nothing. So she scourgified the containers she had borrowed, bringing them back up to the front to get them out of the way. Then she returned to her workstation and carefully wrapped up the syringes that were now hers. The Ravenclaw stashing them in her potions supplies.

Ariadne turned her gaze to the syring she'd just used. Should she keep it? Mehh. She had plenty of them in her own kit. She really didn't need or want any more. She decided then that she would deposit the syringe in the correct place by the end of class. Somebody else could use it.
Next!
She picked up the second syringe and cleaned it, too. She was really getting good at this cleaning thing! Either she was cleaning TOO much, or her potion was going to be so dust-free it would sparkle! Okay, maybe not SPARKLE, but it would AWESOME.
She measured 0.1 mL of the boomslang venom, and...well...placed it to the side. So...what was next? Step eight? Nine? ... Eight!

In her last few minutes of waiting, Janelle needed to get some hair from her puff. She followed the professor's suggestion and went over to the sink to wet her hand. Then she came back over to Coco's cage. Opening the door, she reached in and gave him a little pat pat. She checked her hand and found that it did, in fact, contain several pink pygmy puff hairs. Leave it to Jasmine to find the world's only male pink puff. Too bad she didn't give him a more manly name, just to make up for his pinkness.
It was finally time to move on and Janelle was oh so glad. She took two of the pink hairs and dropped them into her cauldron. Janelle picked up her wooden stirrer and dipped it into the potion. She stirred the liquid three times in a clockwise direction. Mercifully, she did not have to go slowly this time. After removing the stirrer and setting it down, Janelle set her watch alarm for six minutes. More waiting.
Janelle considered washing her stirrer, but she figured that at this point, she might as well wait until she was completely finished to wash everything. In the meantime, she stowed the rest of the equipment that she no longer needed. Six minutes was a long time, but when her watch buzzed, Janelle was anxious to wrap things up. She got her scooper thingy and filled her vials with her potion liquid. Then she capped the vials. Next, Janelle disposed of the stewed ingredients. Once that was done, she cleaned her cauldron and the last few pieces of equipment. Then she straightened her work area. Now all she had to do was test her potion.

Clean the mortar and pestle...
Well, yeah, at this rate, Ariadne had pretty much gotten into the routine of cleaning EVERYTHING right before she used it anyway. So this one was a given even if it was listed in the instructions and all. She quickly did a good cleaning of the mortar and pestle then turned her gaze back to the instructions.
The professor had shown them another set of directions on top of the two they already had, but at least it was the LAST set of directions. Ariadne added one unicorn horn into the mortar and then crushed it into a fine powder. Looking back at the directions, she noted where it was now time to use that extra syringe she'd filled with boomslang venom. She picked it up and also added in the venom. She began mixing it together, and when she was done, she set it aside and began the three-minute count.
Waiting...waiting...waiting...
When the three minutes was up, she added the mixture to the cauldron.

More stirring, and this time for three minutes.
Placing the wooden stirrer into her cauldron, Esme started stirring slooooowly in a clockwise direction. As she worked she looked at the clock. One stir every ten seconds seemed like a good method to her, and she silently kept a countdown in her head. 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6... 7... 8... 9... 10... Stir and repeat. If she was in a better mood, she would have looked up to see how her friends were doing, but as it was she kept her eyes glued on either her cauldron or the clock.
At least her hand shaking was getting better. Either that, or she was getting used to it. By this point she was practically ignoring it.
Once the three minutes were up, Esme set about cleaning her workstation up a little. Ignoring the bird eyes that she could feel boring into her soul, she cleaned all of her equipment and gave her desk a good Scourgifying even though it would probably get dirty again. Not only was this a nice waste of time but it also was rather therapeutic. A win win situation as far as she was concerned.
"Thank Merlin!" Esme said softly to herself as the ten minutes had passed.

Okay, everything was simmering nicely and clean ans Azura still had some time left so she gently stroked Snowy's head a few times. Listening to the white bird hoot a bit and soon a small feather came off in her hand..
She gave the bird a smile and another pat as the timer went off and in went the feather! She stirred it three times clockwise and smiled as she set the timer for six minutes this time..
She got out her vials and waited.. Occasionally talking softly to her owl, but Mostly just focused on her potion!
She loved this stuff.. This and charms..
Maybe it was because she liked baking so much? She wasn't sure..
She was still musing when the timer went off and she carefully scooped out the liquid into the vials..
Then she discarded the stewed ingredients, and cleaned her cauldron!

Err...exactly HOW much was a measure when it came to Pygmy Puffs?
Esme was slightly confused and then figured that maybe it was two individual hairs because that was the amount needed for rats and cats. She wasn't even going to begin being amused by that rhyme because she was too busy shuddering at the thought of cutting the tip off of an owl feather. Even if that owl was Barnaby. MOVING ON.
Feeling a litttle bad, she collected two hairs from Sparkle. "Sorry," she said apologetically to the little Pygmy Puff as she squeaked. A few pats followed along with a promise of treats later. It wasn't Sparkle's fault that she was terrified of birds and didn't own a cat. She was a great pet anyway and got a small smile as the hairs were added to the cauldron. Now to do some more stirring...
Another 1... 2... 3... times clockwise with the wooden stirrer and Esme let it simmer for six minutes. Finally she was almost done with the potion. To pass the time she gave Sparkle some attention but she couldn't wait to be out of here and back to the common room where she could finally stop feeling scared.

The moment of truth had arrived. Janelle opened one of her vials and after a brief pause, drank the potion. Now what? Now she waited.......again. While she was waiting for the potion to take effect, she went over to her pygmy puff's cage. She was pretty sure they weren't allowed to let their pets out in the classroom. That could result in total chaos. Instead, Janelle sat down next to the cage and waited to see what would happen.......if anything happened at all.
Staring at her puff, Janelle began to talk to him. "Well Coco, what's on your mind? Feeling ready to share yet?" So far, nothing. Janelle wished that she could take him out and hold him. Maybe if they were closer, they could communicate more easily. With a sigh, she tried to clear her mind and make it open to receive....... whatever.
Soooo, Janelle looked at Coco and Coco looked back at Janelle. This was fun.

Kitty let the potion brew for six minutes (about six minutes, she lost track so it could have been fine minutes and forty) and then started to drink from one of the vials. Any moment now she would start feeling what Olaf felt. Vaguely she wondered if this was what kissing a toad tasted like.

Ava looked at her notebook and read the next instruction. The boomslang venom, oooh.... So fancy. With another new syringe, the young lioness took 0,1 ml venom with it and.... Oh, they didn't add it to the cauldron yet. She needed to place it aside for the moment. After that, she cleaned her mortar and pestle again. Oh, so she needed to add the venom there, not to the cauldron? Got it. Glad that she re-read her potions notebook again or she's gonna make a fatal mistake.

How long had she been brewing anyway? It had probably only been close to an hour, but Ariadne felt like she'd been here for an entire afternoon. It was a good thing she wasn't brewing a Polyjuice Potion. That took a whole month, and at the rate she was going, she'd probably get the feeling that brewing would last a whole year!
Ariadne's owl ruffled its feathers again and gave a look of annoyance. Or maybe that was just Ariadne's worry taking over again. "Sorry, girl," she said. "This'll be over soon." The owl didn't respond, of course, but pretty soon, she'd hopefully be able to understand what its thoughts were.
By this time, the simmering process had lasted exactly three minutes, so Ariadne began stirring three times in a clockwise direction. *stir stir stir*

The only thing she had left to do was separate the liquid and throw out the rest. Then she would be able to communicate with Sparkle. Esme hadn't really given it much thought with everything else going around her, but she supposed that would be pretty cool. Just so long as she did it anywhere that didn't contain any birds...
Glancing at Professor Newton she contemplated asking him if she could drink the potion elsewhere and then decided against it. What if he wanted to see in person if it worked or not? Besides the little Pygmy Puff might help keep her mind off of other things. Scary things that made her want to hide.
That settled, Esme worked carefully to collect the liquid into phials before disposing of everything that was left in her cauldron. Setting the potion aside, she worked on first cleaning her cauldron and equipment and then putting everything away. The whole time she was doing this she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. It was only after the workstation was totally clean that she felt ready to try the potion out and see if it worked.
Bottoms up, she thought before downing the liquid in one of the phials in one go.

Once the mortar and pestle had been cleaned... Now it's time for the crushing!
Ava added one unicorn horn to the mortar and started crushing in with her pestle. Crush, crush, crush.... Wow, this was tougher than the dried fluxweed one. She crushed it until it made a fine powder. Once it done, she added the boomslang venom to the mortar and mixed it with the unicorn horn powder. And then.... She set aside for three minutes before added them to the cauldron.
Another three minutes waiting? Woah.

Okay, so they were cleaning the mortar and pestle AGAIN? Well, this mortar and pestle was just asking TOO MUCH now, wasn't it? Heh. Nevertheless, Ariadne set to work cleaning it for the third time this lesson. It was good to have clean materials, though. At least she knew she wasn't brewing this potion all for nothing. She'd heard what the tiniest dust particle could do.
Once it was clean, she scooped in the two tablespoons of lacewing flies. She followed that by adding in one tablespoon of water and then a tablespoon of honey. When everything was added in and all in its right amounts, Ariadne crushed the mixture until it was a smooth paste. Once the texture was just right, Ariadne tipped the mixture into her cauldron.

After she had waited for three minutes, now it's time to add the mixture of venom+unicorn horn powder to the cauldron. There, done... Wait, it's not really done since Ava still needed to do more gazillion steps until she was really done, finished brewing of course.
Reading the next step, the young lioness noticed that she needed to wait for three minutes again... Okay, no complaining here. She knew that it required some waiting steps for some potions. Her healer dad always reminded her that since she's not really a patient person. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait.......... Untiiiiiiiiiil.......... Threeeeeeeeeee.......... Minuteeeeeeees..........
Three minutes later, she read the instruction again and... Oh, stirring! Ava grabbed her cleaned wooden stirrer and stirred it clockwise, three times.

Cleaning her tools was essentially an involuntary reaction by now. Brooklyn had Scourgified her mortar and pestle nearly as soon as she’d added the belladonna into the potion, yet she did another quick cleaning after setting the boomslang venom side in the syringe. Just to be safe, and then she added the unicorn horn to the mortar. Time for more crushing, but at least this time wasn’t half as vague as the earlier time. She was grateful for that. Very grateful. Plus, the crushing got any leftover boredom from waiting out of her system, even as she realized that they were finally getting the final steps to the potion.
She’d just have to add that to her notes the next time she had to wait. Which, upon glancing at her notes, she realized was soon. First she had to add the venom to the crushed horn and mix it all together. The note that it shouldn’t make a paste hadn’t made sense, but when she really saw how little liquid it really was, she understood. There really wasn’t enough to make a paste, but then there was that waiting. Three more minutes of it, which she took up by slowly writing down the new steps in her notes. Even so, she still had time left once she set her quill down, but as soon as the three minutes were up, the mixture in her mortar was added to the potion, followed by another reflexive cleaning of her tools. She’d had to wait again, after all. She figured it made as much sense to do something as it did to just sit there.
Once the second three minutes was up, though, she wasted no time in using her stirrer to stir the potion three times clockwise.

Animal Whisperer Potion
a potion allowing the user to get a glimpse into an animal’s mind. More likely to work with a familiar rather than a common animal, but still useful either way.
6 cups water
15 fresh Belladonna leaves
3 dried Fluxweed sprigs, roughly crushed in mortar and pestle (picked during a full moon, and dried over one week)
0.5mL Wormwood essence
2Tbsp Lacewing flies
1tsp honey
1tsp water
0.1mL Boomslang venom
1 crushed Unicorn Horn
1 cup of Armadillo Bile
15g Ginger, crushed
1 Shrivelfig, scooped out seeds
1 measure of your animal
1. Add 6 cups of water to you cauldron, and light a small flame. Simmer the water for 5 minutes to slowly heat to an appropriate temperature
2. Pluck the 15 leaves of Belladonna from the sprigs, will need approximately 2 sprigs, and add them to the cauldron once five minutes is up
3. Gather the 3 sprigs of dried Fluxweed, and roughly crush in mortar and pestle. Only enough to increase the surface area, then add to the cauldron
4. Simmer for a further 3 minutes
5. Stir with a wooden stirrer, three times, clockwise
6. Measure, with a 1ml syringe, your Wormwood essence, and add to the cauldron.
7. Measure 0.1mL Boomslang venom in a different syringe and place to the side for a moment
8. Clean the mortar and pestle, add one unicorn horn, and crush it to a fine powder, then add the Boomslang venom. Mix together (it will not make a paste) and set aside for three minutes, then add to the cauldron.
9. Simmer the cauldron for three minutes, then stir three times, clockwise
10. Clean the mortar and pestle, and add two tablespoons of Lacewing flies, one teaspoon of honey, and one teaspoon of water, and crush until it makes a smooth paste. Carefully add the paste to the cauldron
11. Stir slowly for three minutes, clockwise, and then leave the potion to simmer for ten minutes.

So after she's waiting for three minutes and stirred the potion, she moved on to the next instruction: cleaning the mortar and the pestle. Again. Then, she added two teaspoon of lacewing flies, one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of the water. And crushing them into a paste.

A smooth paste had been formed, so now she only needed to add them to the cauldron.

Hady was more then ready to finish off this potion when her timer finally went off for the last time signaling the end of her six minute wait. Now all she had to do was fill one of her phials with the contents of it and drink it. Nothing to it...
Reaching for a clean phial the fifth year carefully filled it with her potion. Then using her wand discarded of what was left of it. Her eyes shifted to the potion in her hand and she stared at it for a long moment before finally downing it in one go. Kinda gross really but yeah to late to worry about that now.
While waiting to see if it would work our not Hady began cleaning up the items she had used and putting her things away. Might as well take care of this stuff if she had to wait.

With his potion nice and stirred, Jaemin squinted up at the board again. Next step! This wasn't so hard, really. Even with all the measuring and other stuff... as long as you followed the instructions, things went okay. He didn't know why people were so against this class sometimes.
It was now time for more measuring. Jaemin picked up the syringe and examined it, putting his finger on the plunger lightly. It felt so doctory, even though it was the wrong kind of syringe for doctoring. He leaned in close to measure out the tiny bit of wormswood essence, humming to himself as he lined it up with the correct tick mark on the side.
With it measured out, Tiny Doctor Jaemin wiggled a bit in his seat and reached his hand out to inject it into the cauldron. There! Potion fully immunized. Hehe.

Once she added the paste, Ava grabbed her wooden stirrer again and stirred the potion slowly, clockwise. And as the mad scientist Professor had said, she needed to do the stir exactly eight seconds per stir. Crazy, huh? Well, since she didn't have any stopwatch or anything else.... Hopefully she did the stirring right. Clockwise, for three minutes. Then she had to wait again.... for ten minutes.
So many waiting to brew this potions.
Ten minutes later, Ava followed the Professor's way how he took the animal's fur. She wet her hand and gave her precious Preston a pat. "Good boy...." Hehehe.... Then she took two individual hairs from her hand and added them to the cauldron. With the stirrer, she stirred the potion again three times clockwise. Now she only need to wait for six minutes to simmer.

The next step needed another syringe. Jaemin immediately scooped it up and looked at his potion again; poor potion, needing so many shots! He patted the table before reaching for the boomslang venom and sticking the syringe into it, sucking it up carefully. It was such a small amount... potions were so weird with how the very tiniest things could affect them so completely. Jaemin held the syringe carefully in his hand for a moment before looking back up at the directions and setting it aside.
