Post 1 :: Drinking the elixir of +1 poison mimicking

But oh hellz naaaw, Proffy man actually meant poison of the Mrs Skower's All-Purpose Magical Mess Remover vintage. Or at least something that would fake its effects. Hobbling Hinkypunks this is hardcore! Looove it.
But before he could display that iconic Gryffindor chivalry, Haddie went ahead and volunteered to take the poison. Whut? Is she serious? But off she goes.
He scampers after her and mutters "For an Eaglette, youre pretty daring Denaker." Daring Denaker. He is just WINNING the alter ego name game today isnt he? "Keep at it you could be an honorary Lion Cub." Just as he's probably an honorary Eaglette hehe.
And off he goes collecting their ingredients. Like a chef in a glorious farmers market, Tenacius picked up each ingredient and examined it with careful eye, feeling it, smelling it (or so it seemed as some of these really are poisonous when inhaled), being very selective about it. He is a world class chef and his creations deserve only the FINEST ingredients.
Even as she rolled her eyes, Haddie was beaming. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and shrugged like that was common sense. "I already am a lioness," she said, proudly. "I was just sorted into the wrong house."
And with that, Haddie held the little cup of faux-poison up. "Cheers." She downed it in one go, all the while making a face that only seemed to intensify once she finished. Haddie shuddered. "Eck! Tastes like week old cotton candy soaked in cough syrup." She made the face again as if to further the point, and waited.
And waited.
"Nothing," she shrugged. "I feel fine." Tension seemed to ease out of her and she relaxed noticeably. "Maybe, I got a bad batch or..." The light in the room seemed to intensify, and was pulled taut and thin, stretched out at the edges of her vision. It was hard to focus and was making her head throb. "...or," Haddie tried to continue. Her right hand was pressing against her temple, trying to still the throbby feeling. It wasn't working. The world around her lurched, as if she was on a boat sailing through a storm. Then it began to spin as well. Clearly, there was a whirlpool in the stormy sea. "Nevermind. I'm just going to..." She sat down and put her head on the desk. "You do your thing," she mumbled with a wave of the hand.

He waited until Penelope agreed to their set up before heading to grab the ingredients per the professors instructions. Dima returned to his seat with them and then made sure he had the right amounts of each, not wanting to screw this one up. Usually, the brewing just had his grade banking on it... but today, he's skills had a friend's health at stake, so he'd actually need to do a good job.
After copying the notes onto his sheet of parchment, with a few extra steps he'd added himself for cleaning reminders, Dmitriy got to work. He nudged his mortar and pestle in front of him, casting a quick, "Scourgify," on both as to make sure there would be no cross-contamination occurring.
The sixth year dropped a bezoar into the mortar next, grabbing the pestle and getting to work with his crushing. He was leaner than most men in his family, but Dima definitely had enough strength in his arms to make light of this step. Following the professor's directions to a T, he put his elbow into it and made sure all the clumps were gone. Dima stopped after a few minutes, peeking into his mortar and getting a few lumps he'd missed. Good?

Poor Rachel. Not only did she have to deal with drawings on her face - which Esme was sure that the Charms Professor could fix - but she was starting to feel the effects of the potion she had drank. Apparently it was a case of speaking too soon because it happened right after she said that she couldn't feel anything so far. At least she was starting off with coughing and not something more uncomfortable?
"Don't worry! I'll have you fixed in no time." Was fixed a good word to use? Not like Rachel was broken... "Erm, I meant HEALED." She felt bad for that little slip up because she WAS concerned for her friend and wanted her to feel better. Thinking about stuff wasn't going to brew the potion, however, so it was a good idea for her to get to work on it like she said she would. First things first she would write down the recipe. This made it easier for her to mark off which steps she had completed and would also keep her from having to repeatedly check the board. Two birds, one stone.
To be extra thorough Esme gave the cauldron another Scourgifying - rat man would be proud.
A bezoar was added to her mortar and she began to thoroughly cruuuuuuuush it using the pestle. Crush. Crush. Crush. By the time she had a very fine powder, her arm had gotten quite the workout.

It seemed like his crushing duties were over, so Dima moved onto the next step. First, of course, he cleaned his cauldron. "Scourgify." Since he'd be working with his measuring tools to get the right amount of crushed bezoar for the antidote, he went ahead and cast on those as well.
Between spells, he peeked over at Penelope. Was she doing all right? Even though they'd have to wait for the professor's word for her to take the potion, Dmitriy still wanted to get his brewing done quickly. Hurry wasn't advisable in this setting, but there was something riding on it.
He separated four measures of crushed bezoar with his now spotless tools and added the right amount to his cauldron. Slow work, this was.

Soooooo it was only when Esme had finished crushing up the bezoar that she realized that she wasn't wearing her gloves.
Oops?
Quickly she pulled them out of her bag and gave them a cleaning. Hopefully rat man hadn't seen, or if he had she wouldn't be in trouble for this. At least she had realized her mistake before getting too far into the brewing process because she had no idea what might have happened otherwise. Crisis averted, she was ready to move on to the next steps.
1... 2... 3... 4... measures of the crushed bezoar were added to her cauldron, Esme making sure to work slowly and not make a mess of anything. Look at her being a good student. Beam. Once that was done she cleaned her measuring tool (because why not) and proceeded to add 1... 2... measures of Standard Ingredient.
She was on fire!

The standard ingredient was next. Funky mixture of herbs, that was, and Dima could never guess exactly which they included or care enough to read up on it. He already had two measures of the stuff ready to go, so he added that to his cauldron following the crushed bezoar.
Next, he poured in the two cups of water with which the professor had supplied them with. Heh. It was kinda funny to see all that standard ingredient and bezoar powder floating around in the stuff now. Made it feel a bit more potion-y and less dry looking, didn't it?
His cauldron was over the burner, so he turned the heat to medium for five seconds like Newton had instructed.
And glanced at Penelope again.
Hopefully, he was doing this right. Didn't want to break a Prefect.

Slightly eyeing her partner, Ava was still busy crushing the bezoar with her pestle. Crush, crush, crush! She really needed to crush it into a very fiiiiiine powder. And not to mention that a bezoar was such a little tough guy in here.
There, done.
After she had finished crushing someone's heart the bezoar into a fine powder, she looked at the next step. Okay, she needed to add four measures of bezoar powder into the cauldron. With the cleaned measuring spoon (Yes, she had cleaned it before. Don't worry.), she added four spoons of the powder to her cauldron. And next, with a different cleaned spoon she took two measures of standard ingredients kit to the cauldron.

It had been five seconds, so Dmitriy turned the burner off and set his eyes on the clock. Five minutes. 300 seconds. 299. 298. 297...
There was really nothing to do but drum his fingers against his leg and be antsy and shoot impatient looks at his cauldron. And watch Penelope some more, although that was a really dumb thing to do, because it just made him that much surer he was going to end up poisoning her further.
Finally, five minutes on the dot had passed, and Dima got right back into it. His gloves had already been on, so it was no sweat adding the pinch of unicorn horn. He went ahead and cleaned his stirrer with a, "Scourgify," too, in preparation for the next step.

She'd probably eaten worse in the past.
"Good to meet you Sam," he said with a smile. Making new friends was always nice. He didn't know as many first years this year as he would like. He needed to know more people outside of his own year. And he still had not yet met Ellery's friend. Olly noticed his mind wandering and tried to focus. Right. He was brewing first. He nodded and headed up to the front to get ingredients.
First was the bezoar. Olly had cleaned all his things when he'd first arrived and began to set up. So he did not see a need to do it again. He began crushing the bezoar. What was the professor saying? It had to be made into a very fine powder. Normally, he would have called it good if there were still a few chunks, but this time it mattered because Sam was depending on it. So he made sure it was very fine before adding four measures to his cauldron. So far so good.

Carefully lowering his cleaned stirrer into the cauldron, Dima gave it two turns in a clockwise direction. He was keeping a close eye out for odd color changes, weird fumes, unexpected noises and pops... anything that would signify something had gone awry.
But nothing of the sort was happening. Maybe... just maybe, this was going to work?
He dropped in the two mistletoe berries, then gave his potion two more stirs. This time, the sixth year moved in the counterclockwise direction. He'd completed all the instructions now, save for waiting, and that seemed to be a pretty quick finish in comparison to the others. Some of his classmates were still working, anyway.
Still, Dmitriy waited two minutes per his notes before whispering to Penelope, "It's done."
Just so she could rest easy and know she had an antidote waiting for when the professor gave the word, assuming he hadn't messed it up.

She already had the bezoar powder and the basic ingredients kit to her cauldron, now it's time to add the water. Ava then took a cup and cleaned it with the scouring charm. Good, and then she cast a water conjuring spell to the cup. "Aguamenti." Then poured one cup to the cauldron. Again, she cast the water conjuring spell and poured the water to her cauldron.
And then what's next? Fire, right.
"Incendio!" The young lioness lightened the fire and set the fire into medium temperature. Now she needed to wait for five seconds.

Oh, cool! A partner! One who looked pretty fun to be around, too! "AWESOME!" she exclaimed. The boy, whatever his name was, looked to be around Ariadne's age, too. She'd introduce herself when he got back from getting the materials from the professor. They hadn't even discussed who was going to do what, and...OH, NO! What if he wanted to brew, too?! ... Ariadne beamed and breathed a sigh of relief when it looked like he was getting the elixir.
...so she was the brewer!
In the meantime, she collected their ingredients...one bezoar, two measures of Standard Ingredients, a pinch of a unicorn horn, and two mistletoe berries. UNICORN HORNS! Cool! Ariadne felt like she was carrying pixie dust or something! She carefully walked back to the work station with the ingredients and placed them out before her.
She glanced up at her partner, waiting for him to return so she could tell him her name was ARIADNE!
Matt gave the professor a beamy grin and took some of the POISON with him back to their workstation. "I'm BACK!" He announced to the Slytherin girl as he held the vial up above his head in triumph. VICTORYYYYY! Only he was about to drink some POISON, so what victory he was referring to... he didn't know, but hehehehe, how FUN!
"I'm Matt Solo, by the way." He told her, hitting the vial on the desk a couple of times to stir it or something. There was no reason for him to do it, really, he just felt like it. "I'mma drink the POISON NOW." He eeyyeeeeddd all of the ingredients she had to work with. He didn't quite care about that part of the lesson.
POISON TIME! "Bottoms up! RAAAHHH!!!" The Gryffindor drank the liquid in one gulp and looked back at the girl to see if there was any IMMEDIATE effects.
Hm???
HM???
ANYTHING?? NO??

Olly was very easily distracted, but he was really trying to keep his focus. Because he wasn't just responsible for brewing a potion for his own grade or benefit. He couldn't get distracted by looking at the others who had taken the potion because if he messed up that wouldn't be good for Sam. What would happen if he messed up drastically? Hopefully nothing bad. He assumed the professor would not have them make a potion in this situation if messing it up would result in dire consequences for the drinker. He seemed nicer than that.
He peered up at the board to follow the next step. Add two measures of standard ingredient. That wasn't hard. Olly did so quickly and looked back up at the board for the next step. 2 cups of water. He pulled out his wand. "Aguamenti." He filled up his measuring cup and added that to his cauldron, then did it again so he had added two cups in total to the potion.

Rachel coughed and nodded as best as she could to Esme. She trusted the Hufflepuff. Surely Esme wasn't as silly as her when it came to potion making. Her hand was not clamped over her mouth permanently (or as long as was required for the duration of this) and she focused on Esme, her eyes occasionally darting to Haddie and David. She was concerned for them both to be experiencing the symptoms.
Oh no! Her mouth suddenly felt dry. Water! She needed water but she was yet again wracking with coughs. As if that weren't enough, her head started to throb ever so lightly. Unable to take the symptoms coupled with the fact that she was still humiliated by the drawings on her face, Rachel folded her arms on a corner of the workstation so as to not disturb Esme and rested her head on her arms.
Before Tia had a chance to really respond to Kitty's question about what they were studying, it seemed the Professor was beginning the lesson with why partners was needed. Wait, what?!? Half the class was being poisoned? Perhaps that old hag WAS right with her predictions of gloom this year. And it seemed that their Potions Master was going to have a hand in bringing in the doom to most of the school. If the school could hire a hag for a professor, Tia had no doubts they could hire an evil wizard to teach potions.
Still thinking on the evil professor, it wasn't until Kitty spoke again that broke the head girl from her reverie. Oh, Kitty was volunteering to take the potion first. "Huh? Oh .... I think we'll have to swap, but yes that's fine, I can brew the antidote. Don't worry, you won't die." Unless the antidote was incorrect because, evil professor here.
With that, the seventh year went up to the front to collect her ingredients; 1 bezoar, 2 measure of standard ingredient, 1 pinch of unicorn horn, 2 mistletoe berries. And carried them back to her workstation to wait for further instructions. She had her textbook in case she needed it.
"I'm not worried," Kitty responded truthfully. She couldn't say the same for herself, and that was why she would rather drink than brew. Hopefully the worst of it would be feeling dizzy.
"Okay here I go!" She raised her cup and drank it all in one sip. "GAA!!!" Her face wrinkled in disgust at the flavor. At first nothing happened. Seconds ticked by and still nothing.
Then out of the blue she realized how thirsty she was. When was the last time she had drank water anyway? It had been before coming to the lesson, but it felt like ages. Kitty clutched at her throat and groaned. "Hey Tia, can you please do that spell that summons water? I can't."
"GAA!"Her throat was beginning to hurt due to lack of water.
Colt saw the lesson was starting and he held the poison. Well the mild poison. He shrugged and said, "Bottoms up.." and he tilted the vial into his mouth. Errrghhh not the best taste. He shuddered and swallowed it down. He waited till the effects came on. He would think soon? He believed in this little first year gryffindor. He chuckled and said, "I'll try not to die Ava. I still want to kick your butt too.." He commented and then he felt like he was going to throw up like instantly. He massaged his stomach. "Errgghh.." he mumbled. His head felt dizzy too. Okay so this was not fun. He tried to walk around but he stumbled on his own feet. That made his nauseous worse. "I need a bucket.." he muttered and held in his throw up.
He grabbed the bucket that was nearest to him and turned away from Ava. He threw it all up. Well that look attractive to say the least.

Just kidding, David didn't mind. Er, he didn't mind drinking common poison, because that certainly made the task of brewing the antidote more challenging and fun. He glanced at Olivia, whose hand he had had just shaken and whom he had of course escorted over to his lab station, to try to gauge her thoughts on poison. David had to stop studying her so that he could jot down the list of ingredients, but then he turned back, stiffly, toward his partner. He did offer her a small, very small smile as he asked politely:
"Would you rather drink or brew?"
Poison.
Okay poison and the antidote but one of them would still have to drink poison. No matter how common and the fact that hopefully the professor didn’t want any of them dead. Oh wait…it only mimicked the symptoms…okay. Whatever the case, there had to be a choice from one or both of them. So did she take it and have David brew the antidote? Or would David take it and hope Olivia herself could manage to brew what they needed right.
Settling her belongings down and writing up the list that appeared on the board, Olivia tried to make her choice. A choice David turned to her and asked about. Apparently he didn’t seem all that picky about positions himself. “Um…perhaps drink,” she finally offered, “seeing as you have more experience brewing.” He was a year older…right? And she could be brave about it. She wasn’t in any real danger after all.
With that decision made, and the fact the professor wanted to move on to the actual brewing, Olivia moved up to the front to get her dose of the elixir leaving David to get the rest of the supplies. Returning to their workstation, she waiting until she copied down the rest of the potion notes onto her parchment for future reference before she reached for the cup once more, eying its contents. “Bottom’s up…” she mused before drinking it down and waiting to see what happened while her partner started.
Elliot looked at the instructions and watched carefully as the professor showed them the effort needed to crush the beazor properly. He gave a quick glance over at Jay before he went to work. He was going to do this right!
Placing the beazor into the mortar Elliot took the pestle and pressed down, putting his back and elbow into it as the professor had instructed. This was certainly more difficult that it had appeared. He furrowed his brow pressing harder grinning in victory when the beazor broke. Victory! Now he just had to crush it up good. He didn't want Jay swallowing a lumpy potion.
How fine, did Professor Art wanted it to be? Jace’s hand and shoulder started to ache as he continued to disintegrate the bezoar manually and carefully. The man said not to leave chunks in there because it will mess up the antidote, so he was very determined to get every bit of the stone in powder form. Merlin, can’t they just get a powdered form in the apothecary?! Why must they do all this labour??? “Hmm?” Jace kept his eyes on his mortar and pestle, crushing away the bezoar while he listened to Elsa. “Oh, is it? My papa wanted me to attend school here, so I could get the best of both worlds. I’ve seen how things worked in Mahoutokoro as a day student. I like it there, but my papa insisted that Hogwarts will be better for me.” Jace shrugged as he paused to massage his shoulder, and after a while, continued to crush the bezoar diligently.
Jace chuckled and shook his head in amusement. “You have to help me get my set of horns first before we could do the research.” So in effect, it’s a back to back research activity. Jace watched Elsa drink her poison from the corner of his eyes. Well, he didn’t like the idea of being puked at.
Jace however had to double check when Elsa announced that the drink was...okay. Well, that’s how poisons should be, right? It has to look, taste, and smell harmless, enough to fool the victim. It didn’t take long for the poison to kick in however. “You don’t look so good.” Jace said flatly, and quickly got a spare cauldron from his workstation and pushed it towards her. “Hey pirate? There’s your cauldron. Feel free to throw up in there.” Merlin, his effort must be in vain. Jace wasn’t sure if Elsa could even comprehend what he just said right now. “Hang in there!”
Mustering all the focus he could get, Jace made sure that his bezoar was powder like, and proceeded with the next step. He got his cauldron, “Scourgify!” And added four measures of the crushed bezoar in it, as well as two measures of the standard ingredients.
With that done, Jace paused to check on his partner by waving his hand in front of her face. “Are you still with me, Elsa-san?” Merlin, talk about pressure!
Right, onto the next steps...
The crushing sound lulled Elsa as she stood against the table, her head in her hands, observing Jace work. Merlin, wasn’t he determined? Look at him crushing that bezoar into oblivion! That though alone made her chuckle again.
She tried to keep a nice talk flowing between her and her Ravenclaw friend “My mum wanted me to go to the same house as she went. She wouldn’t shut it about Slytherin! Slytherin this, Slytherin that”” she mimicked her mother’s voice” “I secretly believe that she does not trust another place to be as capable as Hogwarts.” she shrugged and a shiver made her whimper a little.
As he pushed his spare cauldron to her, she eyed it suspiciously “I’m not supposed to be cooking anything!” she said confused, and put her head in it “Heey it echoes in here!” and another fit of giggles erupted from her throat, vibrating in the cauldron for a minute before she actually emptied the contents of her stomach in a gut-wrenching sound.
She carefully pulled her head from the cauldron, looking up at Jace apologetically, wiping her mouth with a paper tissue she took from her pocket. “I’m sorry Jace, I’m actually not feeling that good.” and she groaned again in discomfort.
As time went by, and Jace kept preparing the potion, the barely there symptoms she thought she had evolved into something more consistent. Her vision was blurry around the edges, she kept sweating like she had just walked through the rain, she was pale and groggy. This poison did not suit her at all. Mild my Dragon’s tail! But then again, if it was actual poison she would probably be on the floor by now, soaked in her own fluids.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed the hair out of her face and pulled it up in to a tight bun, trying to get a firmer grip in reality and her surroundings, fanning her face with her free hand while the other one kept a cautious hold on the spare cauldron. Better safe than sound. She didn’t think her reputation, if she had any, could handle it. “How is it going? Is it hard?” she eyed the content of Jace’s cauldron.

Wait... Haddie should really be paying attention to how Tenacius makes the potion, if she was going to have any remote hope of making it herself. It wasn't going to be easy though... not with the nauseating swaying sensation, and the nauseating spinning sensation and the... Can someone just sail out of this stupid storm already!?
She lifted her head, or rather rolled it up off the desk--When did her head get so heavy, anyhow?--and glanced lethargically around the room. The candles that lit the room flared more than a J.J. Abrams movie, and made her head throb with more vigor. It was nothing compared to the overwhelming nauseating smell of coffee beans. She wasn't sure if the smell was entirely in her head or not... Haddie hated that smell more than anything in the world.
When she was finally sure she wasn't going to vomit--thank Merlin!--Haddie rolled her head Tenacius' direction, watching him grind up the bezoar through squinted eyes. Everything, Tenacius, the workstation, the mortar he was crushing the bezoar in, kept swaying making it harder to watch than it already was.
"Wait," Haddie moaned. "I need to watch...hold still." She reached out with both hands, shaky and uncertain and after a few attempts finally found mortar and held the sides of it down as firmly as she could. "That's better."

As Rachel continued to cough, Esme cast a quick glance towards her. Apparently the effects were getting worse but there was nothing that she could do besides get the potion completed. Soon enough she would be going through the same thing herself. Oh joy.
Using her wand, she filled her measuring cup with enough water to go into the cauldron and then dumped it inside. It was interesting to see the bezoar and Standard Ingredient floating around inside. Now she apparently needed to heat the potion on medium for five seconds. That meant turning her burner on to medium and leaving it there for five seconds, right???
ESME WAS CONFUSED.
Well, here goes nothing... If something messed up, she would just ask rat man for help.
1... 2... 3... 4... 5... seconds on medium and she was ready to move on.

As Oliver started to grind up the bezoar, Sam slipped off her chair and headed up to the front to pick up the 'poison' she was meant to be drinking. The small cup obtained, she returned to their workstation and quickly made a note on her parchment to say she was taking the poison first. She'd write out the full instructions when she was actually brewing them, as it'd help her remember them better.
"Good luc'," she said to her partner with a crooked grin, raising the cup towards him. "See yeh on teh ovver side." And with that, she gulped the potion down, wrinkling her nose at the taste as she did so. If she was going to be poisoned in class, the professor could have least made it taste good!
They were starting the activity now... and the professor had announced that they were to drink the elixir. Jaemin picked up his little cup of not-poison and looked at it for a good long minute. Surely with this many bezoars in the room, he didn't really have to worry about it if it turned out to be real poison. And the professor wouldn't really poison them, because he would totally get fired for that, right? Professors couldn't really harm a student for the sake of demonstration! There were probably laws.
With another glance at Elliot, the small boy swallowed down the spoonful of poison. It didn't taste... awful... it was subtle, at least to his now slightly tingly tongue. He wrinkled his nose and set the little cup on top of the work station again.
"I don't... feel anything..." he murmured, looking around at everyone else. Wasn't poison supposed to make you feel SUPER GROSS? Maybe it would make him turn purple, like tentacula venom... he looked at his hands. "It isn't doing anything."
Elliot blinked over at Jay watching him take the potion. Ok. It was go time! He finished crushing up the beazor as finely as his little 12 year old arms would allow and checked his notes. "Ok 4 measures." Tongue sticking out in concentration Elliot put 4 measures of the beazor into his cauldron and then 2 measures of the standard ingredient. He fumbled a second before grabbing the cup with the water pouring two of them into the cauldron as well.
"Ok ok...five seconds on medium right?" Yes Elliot was talking to himself but he wanted to get this right ok! He took another peak at his notes before turning the burner on medium. "1. 2. 3. 4. 5!" He was ready to get this show on the road.

Olly gave Sam an encouraging smile as she downed the potion. "What does it taste like?" He asked. Hopefully not too bad, but he was sure it couldn't be good. He kept one eye on her. He was pretty sure she wouldn't die or anything but was prepared for anything.
As for the antidote he was brewing, the water had just been added. The next step was just to heat it. Olly heated it to medium. It had been going well so far, and it looked good. He had to wait five minutes before continuing. Olly kept a careful eye on the clock so he would not wait too long.
