Art's lessons usually begin with students walking into the lab, retrieving their white lab coats from hooks along the side of the wall (which you all wrote your name on during the first lesson of the term), and setting up their work space for the lesson. You can chat amongst yourselves, but nothing too full on.

Raising his hand, he called out, "Does anyone need a partner?" He didn't mind if he were the drinker or the potion maker. Both seemed fun.
Oh good, someone ELSE needed a partner! Scarlett always waited too long to get a partner and all her friends always got taken - but she guessed that meant she had popular friends! So it was really a positive thing yeah?
"I need a partner!" she said, hurrying up to the side of the Ravenclaw who was also partner-less. "I'm Scarlett," she added, introducing herself with a smile to the boy.

Austin was surprised when a small girl came up to greet him. If it were this easy to make friends, he would have done it ages ago. "I'm Austin." He smiled at her, hoping not to scare her off. Not that his smile was scary or anything, just that he wasn't always a social butterfly.
"Well," He began clearing his throat. "Would you like to try making the antidote? Or would you rather drink the diluted, uh, poison stuff?" If his job was to not scare away the young girl, then he probably wasn't doing a great job. At least he was trying to make a friend. Which, actually, was saying a lot.

Mason grinned at Azura, "Don't worry! I don't usually kill people I like," she said and stick her tongue out, "Not to brag, but I'm pretty decent at Potion-brewing." Of course she wasn't bragging. . . a lot.
"Ooo, a kiss?" she waggled her eyebrows suggestively and blew Azy a kiss, "You better tell me who you've had thoughts about kissing, or else they'll never get the change." Cause I'll kill you if you don't. Kidding of course.
She set her cauldron over the burner-thing and turned said thingy on, wanting to heat up her cauldron a little before brewing. "Okay, so I'll go get us some ingredients." she told Azy and started walking toward where the ingredients were held, "Be right back!"
Mason came back seconds later clutching the ingredients. She gave Azura a frown and held up the little Bezoar. "Don't you think that making a potion is a waste of time if you can just stick a Bezoar down someone's throat?" she asked her, "I mean come on, a Bezoar can cure a lot of severe cases of poising. Do you think this is some kind of trick to see who actually knows this stuff?"
If it was, then it was really pretty clever. Since most kids didn't even know that much about Potions and cures.
Haddie's eyes went wide. Finally got the chance to talk and hang with the boy she's mildly interested in, and she's gonna end up killing him. Sure, the potion only mimicked poison, but there was n guarantee that her attempt to cure it wasn't actually gonna be poison in and of itself.
"I'll drink the poison first..." she told Tenacius. This way she could watch him brew the antidote first and maybe just maybe pull it off. A quick look at her partially melted cauldron didn't exactly give her much hope of that. Haddie flashed Tenacius a sympathetic look before turning and making her way to the front.
She stared at the little cups of poison for a long moment, before retrieving one and taking it back to her workstation. Drinking it herself didn't worry her, it was having to cure it next that did. Still, she wasn't in any rush to down it just yet.

“Hello Elsa, I’m Jace.” He said giving her a small wave and a grin. The Ravenclaw isn’t used to partnering up with somebody to be honest, so the tiny kid felt awkward. Elsa’s friendliness helped though, because Jace started to feel warm again and loosened up a bit.
He did blush again however, when she mentioned the older boy finding another partner in class. Jace was amazed at how quick Elsa was in terms of body language. The Ravenclaw nodded, and did a slight bow of his head toward the older Slytherin, apologizing. He didn’t want to mess up with anyone, let alone an older student.
Jace nodded, and gestured Elsa to follow him to the professor’s table to get the mild poison, and the ingredients for the antidote. “I’m good enough.” He said with an air of confidence, smiling at his partner. “I think I got it from my mama. She’s a graduate of Mahoutokoro, and they’re very good at brewing Potions.” He added. The Ravenclaw got his ingredients, and waited for Elsa to get her poison. “I think the antidote we’ll be brewing is a bit of an overkill, don’t you think? The bezoar is enough to counter most poisons...let alone a mild one.” He said eyeing the ingredients. See, he’s really good at this stuff.
Saying she was impressed was an understatement, she was really impressed. She considered herself fairly good in Potions, in fact she even considered herself to be quite good, but she could feel Jace excelled her. This was his domain, he started of a little awkward, shy, but once he was in his territory - Potions - he relaxed and Elsa could se he knew what he was talking about.
"That's amazing!" she commented when he told her his mother was a graduate from Mahoutokoro "That's the Japanese School for magic right?" she searched for confirmation, connecting the dots that what the he talked first to her, he probably did it in Japanese too. And looking at him closer, he did look oriental, but not completely. "I'm Portuguese, I've lived in Portugal all my life until coming to Hogwarts. Are you Japanese?" curiosity beat the best of her and even though she knew they weren't supposed to chit-chat in classroom, she did her best to keep her tone hushed and barely louder than a whisper.
She had followed him until the teacher's table and watched as he gathered the ingredients confidently. She also nodded at his remark about bezoar, agreeing "Yes, bezoar would do the trick on most cases. I guess he could have us solemnly making the antidote, but some students would be lacking the... proper motivation to do it right" she shrugged and searched the table for the mild-poison, finding a tea-spoon portion in a little cup, by the teacher. She picked her little cup, eyeing it's content warily and facing Jace again.
"You don't have to worry, I like to consider myself fairly good in Potions as well, I promise I'll try" emphasis on the try "not to let you grow horns or something" she added with a chuckle, signaling him to return to their table with her chin.

Kitty paled in apprehension at the professor's words. It brought back bad memories of a very similar class in Romania she had taken. Back then she had been too scared to drink the potion (which made you vomit), and so she had volunteered to make the anti-dote. Unfortunately she had been very bad at it, and the teacher had to intercede to heal her partner for her.
"I can take the potion if you want," Kitty said to Tia, eager to avoid a repeat performance. "I bet you have a lot of experience and would probably do a better job than I would."Being poisoned might have sounded like worse deal, but all it required of her was that she drink it and wait to be cured. Probably the worst that would happen would be that she felt dizzy. She brought the cup back to their work area and waited apprehensively.

Very clever indeed. . .
Azura grinned at Mason as she spoke and she giggled a little bit. 'Well, I hope you like me." She teased her back slightly, her purple eyes sparkling. She liked Mason! "Good! So am I actually, Charms and potions are sort of my thing." Mason had already seen her charms at work during the duel.. and now.. her potions would be put to the test!
As Mason spoke, Azura flushed a little and started to stammer.."Oh.. well.. you.. uh.. know..people.." Guhhh.. the words were failing her once again!! She bit her lip and then gave the other girl a bit of a half smile.. "So.. yeah." She finished lamely as she walked up to the front and got some of her elixir and looked at it doubtfully as she walked back to Mason..
She shrugged as the other girl spoke. "I don't know actually, maybe he is trying to test our knowledge of other antidotes?" She asked as she looked down at the ingredient..
"All right.. well.. here goes." Azura took a deep breath and then swallowed the elixir..

She gave a few sniffs of her nose as she looked up at him, before returning her interest to the students. Interpreting that as a yes, he started to remove the ingredients from the tray and organise them on his desk.
"N-" he started to say, but his gaze paused at Miss. Watson. There was some uh... stuff on her face. He hoped her friends had said something? If not, he would try and say something discreetly to her later. He knew how the young women were about their faces, and having attention on them. "Now, I hope you uhh, I hope you all had a good holiday?" he asked, looking around.
"Today I'd like you all to break into pairs. Whoever you want to work with is fine with me." He gave them a few minutes to break into their pairs and re-shuffle between their desks if need be.
...and there was the professor!
Ariadne fidgeted in her seat just watching him walk in with all those ingredients! This is what she had watched her whole life, and now she was getting a chance to do some of it herself! She watched him interact with is pet, who of course hadn't responded to Ariadne's greeting she'd given.
At the mention of the word 'pairs', Ariadne instantly began to scan the room for someone she wanted to work with. "Does anybody still need a partner?" she asked.

Wasn’t this going to be fun?
“The elixir is one I made. It is not harmful in any way. Well… not actually harmful. It was designed to mimic the effect of a common poison. BUT it is a very diluted mixture. So, you won’t… you won’t uhh… die.” He cleared his throat again. He didn’t mean to say that. “One of you will ingest a few drops of this, and the other will brew an antidote to common poisons!” He had thought it was a good way to ease the students back into the rhythm of classes. A nice simple potion.
“You don’t need to worry about ingredients, I’ve got them all here.” He had a selection of Bezoars, standard ingredient, unicorn horns, and mistletoe berries. “When you’re ready, decide amongst yourselves which of you will be going first at brewing the potion, then when each of you have done that, we will swap!” He went to the blackboard behind him and wrote, with chalk;
He looked around and, just in case other students hadn't managed to find a pair, he added "If you're still looking for a partner, just uhhh.. r-raise your hand and I can pair you up." Though history reminded him that people didn't like it when the Professor paired people up.
OOC: Okay, so again, this isn’t a poison. It will just give you some mild side effects such as dizziness (please no fainting), drowsiness, slight headache, stomach ache, nausea/vomiting, coughing, sore joints, thirstiness, blurred vision, slight behavioural changes (crankiness, restlessness, irritability, or even euphoria and giggles… + any other mild behavioural changes you would like to RP), and any other MILD general side effects you would like to RP. You can have as few or as little side effects as you want to RP – I just hope you have fun with it! But nothing serious! No fainting, no dying etc.
Drinkers – RP your charactes coming up and getting a sample of the elixir from Professor Newton. It will only be a teaspoon in size, and he will give it to you in a little cup. Please don’t drink it until I post again.
Brewers – RP your characters coming up and getting the ingredients.
My next post will be the first few steps, where we will all get started. I’ll be posting again in 24ish hours. In the mean time, you can chat amongst yourselves, deciding who will go first, expressing your concerns, or excitement etc.
Only ONE person got to brew? SHE WANTED TO BREW! She just needed to find a partner who didn't mind that. It was also a POISON, so of COURSE she didn't want to be the one to do the sampling, even IF the professor had said it was diluted and was all okay. Ahem.
Well, there really wasn't anything else she could do unless she had a partner, so... "I still need a partner!" she said again, hoping there was SOMEBODY out there who still did, too. She raised her hand just like the professor asked her to. Maybe HE could be her partner! She was, after all, used to brewing with adults.
Elliot smiled, eyes honing in on the Korean writing. He was always excited to meet another Korean person, especially someone from his own house. "Nice to officially meet you." He idly brushed some stray lint from his own wand before flipping through his potions book. "You're a first year too right? I think I remember seeing you at the sorting."
Elliot remembered him from aaaaaaall the way back then? Jaemin was a bit surprised, mostly because he could only remember staring at necks and the backs of robes that day. Then again... Elliot didn't seem to have the same problem. He was waaaay tall. It was almost offensive to the pocket-sized Slytherin.
"I am," he responded, nodding happily. "I like it here much more than my old school."
Because math was easy but absolutely boring when you knew classes like Potions were in your future. Who wanted to learn algebra when they could learn hexes? Who was interested in the history of the royal family when there was magical history to learn?! Not Song Jaemin, that was for sure.
He listened intently to the professor, and for a moment the slightest bit of doubt prickled at his skin. Poison that wasn't poison, but mimicked its effects? One of the effects of poison was DYING though... he looked at Elliot, a bit nervous.
"Do... do you wanna brew first?" More like 'can you do it properly so I don't die?'. The professor said it wouldn't happen, but... things went wrong sometimes, y'know?!
LOL, the DRAMATICS! Matt knew a lot about that. He grinned and gave the girl TWO THUMBS UP.
The professor was whispering to the rat and that, maaan, would never get old. Matt laughed out loud because that was just FUNNY. Who even spoke to a RAT, come on? HAHA! ...He did speak to his owl, so maybe it was the same? Yeah, it was the same. Still, that was funnyyyyyyyyyyyyy because that was a RAT.
And WINTER BREAK! He listened as Chewie Tenacius talked about his holidays and Matt BEAMED. "Yeah, I was there TOO!" He pointed at his housemate when he was done speaking. "ALSO, I got TWO new cousins! TWO at ONCE. Talk about saving time!" Y'know, having twins was probably the best way to start off a massive family, wasn't it??? "I bet by next Christmas I'll have about five more!" LOL!

Oh, cool! A partner! One who looked pretty fun to be around, too! "AWESOME!" she exclaimed. The boy, whatever his name was, looked to be around Ariadne's age, too. She'd introduce herself when he got back from getting the materials from the professor. They hadn't even discussed who was going to do what, and...OH, NO! What if he wanted to brew, too?! ... Ariadne beamed and breathed a sigh of relief when it looked like he was getting the elixir.
...so she was the brewer!
In the meantime, she collected their ingredients...one bezoar, two measures of Standard Ingredients, a pinch of a unicorn horn, and two mistletoe berries. UNICORN HORNS! Cool! Ariadne felt like she was carrying pixie dust or something! She carefully walked back to the work station with the ingredients and placed them out before her.
She glanced up at her partner, waiting for him to return so she could tell him her name was ARIADNE!

Olly did not like the sound of the lesson. He did not want to be poisoned. Yes, he realized that wasn't exactly what was going to happen, but that was the gist of it. It made him hold back a moment. He didn't necessarily want to participate, so he was in no hurry to find a partner. But he supposed he needed one, and he was a little worried he'd waited too long. Did that mean he wouldn't have to participate? Probably not.
"Does anybody still need a partner?" He asked the class in general. Where was Ellery? What was even the point in having a sister if she wasn't there to be his partner?
Hmm, which one did she want to do? Scarlett wasn't too sure of her potion making abilities - but this guy was older. So hopefully he was BETTER at potion making than she was - and she was going to put her fate in his hands. Hopefully that didn't freak him out...
"I can drink it!" she told him with a smile. "I mean, I'm only a first year, I'm not sure how good I'd be at something this difficult right now," she chuckled with a small blush. For real - if she made Austin really sick she'd feel SOOOOO bad.
It would have been interesting to see what taking the potion felt like, but in the end, Austin felt relieved that he didn't have to take it. As he had told he professor, in their conversation, he felt more comfortable behind a cauldron than anything else.
So, while Scarlett went to get the potion to drink, Austin went to get the ingredients for the potion. He made sure to get the right amounts, double checking with the board in the front of the room.
As he headed back, a knot grew in Austin's chest. What if the potion wasn't diluted? Or what if he didn't get the antidote finished in time? He didn't know what would happen if someone actually got sick on his account. The professor said no one would die, and he trusted the man. But this year was so crazy, and so much had already happened, that anything was possible. Someone could have switched the potion for a real one, or the professor accidentally gave them the non-diluted solution.
Taking a deep breath, and setting the ingredients down on the counter, Austin waited for Scarlett to get back. And hopefully with a diluted potion.

Sam was little confused by the poison that wasn't poison that needed a antidote brewing for it. Especially since that antidote had a bezoar listed in the ingredients, which was an antidote on its own as far she was aware. What was all the other stuff for?
She had a more immediate problem though...she didn't have partner to brew for. Or to have brew it for her.
Luckily, it seemed someone else was in the same predicament, and she turned to wave in the general direction of the voice she heard. "I need a partneh!"
Elliot remembered him from aaaaaaall the way back then? Jaemin was a bit surprised, mostly because he could only remember staring at necks and the backs of robes that day. Then again... Elliot smiled a little at the smaller Slytherin. He didn't think he'd ever met anyone so small but it was rather endearing. His attention was quickly pulled away when the teacher mentioned ingesting poison. Well...rather something that acted much like poison. He was actually excited now. This class was going to be interesting.
He glanced back to Jay as he spoke. There was that apprehension again. But really, who could blame him? "I can if you want me to. But if you'd be more comfortable, I'd be happy to drink." He shrugged, that mischievous crooked grin on his face. "Might be fun."

Jay was a very hands-on learner. He picked things up rather easily after they'd been demonstrated for him. Mimicry was a craft in itself and Song Jaemin was a master at it when it came to stuff like this. So while he didn't doubt that he could brew the antidote on his own... Elliot stood to benefit if Jaemin brewed second.
"I don't mind drinking first." He nodded, expression going from nervousness to determination. He was still nervous though. Shhhh. "You can brew it first, and I'll go second."
The small boy popped up out of his seat. If he didn't go now, he might not go at all... with a look at Elliot, he bounded off to get some poison... er, poison-lite.

Before Tia had a chance to really respond to Kitty's question about what they were studying, it seemed the Professor was beginning the lesson with why partners was needed. Wait, what?!? Half the class was being poisoned? Perhaps that old hag WAS right with her predictions of gloom this year. And it seemed that their Potions Master was going to have a hand in bringing in the doom to most of the school. If the school could hire a hag for a professor, Tia had no doubts they could hire an evil wizard to teach potions.
Still thinking on the evil professor, it wasn't until Kitty spoke again that broke the head girl from her reverie. Oh, Kitty was volunteering to take the potion first. "Huh? Oh .... I think we'll have to swap, but yes that's fine, I can brew the antidote. Don't worry, you won't die." Unless the antidote was incorrect because, evil professor here.
With that, the seventh year went up to the front to collect her ingredients; 1 bezoar, 2 measure of standard ingredient, 1 pinch of unicorn horn, 2 mistletoe berries. And carried them back to her workstation to wait for further instructions. She had her textbook in case she needed it.

He was fairly confident in this. His father had actually been quite an accomplished potion-maker in his time and now more than ever, he was thankful he'd paid attention to his old man. Either way, this was going to be one heck of an experience.
Melbourne Johanson was determined to make this potion and well, make it completely awesome and well…brew it and then see what it did afterwards? Probably a safe bet.
Standing at her desk she just looked around and frowned a bit. “Partners anyone?” She asked and looked around at all the students with their partners and there was standing like a foolish partner less fool.

Luckily, it seemed someone else was in the same predicament, and she turned to wave in the general direction of the voice she heard. "I need a partneh!"
Olly was looking around the room, searching for someone who was partnerless as well. He spotted the firstie right as she called out to him. He smiled and made his way over to her, taking his stuff with him. He could set up his station over there. "I'm Oliver," he introduced himself.
Now, on to the task at hand. Olly was not necessarily eager to get started but it make everything harder if they fell behind. "Would you like to brew first or drink first?" He didn't have much of a preference. Either way, he would get poisoned at some point.

That was probably the best promise Elliot could make, considering the situation. Jay retrieved the small little cup of not-poison and very carefully carried it back to the table; it wasn't like there was a lot of it in there and he likely wouldn't have spilled it even if he did bounce like he usually did when he walked, but he didn't want to chance it. Fake!poison elixir on his hands couldn't be a good thing.
Once back at the table, he sat down in his seat again and set the little cup on the table in front of him. He scrunched down in his seat until he was eye-level with it, nose touching the tabletop and half of his face hidden under its edge, and stared at it. The cup looked as normal as a little cup could look; he watched it for a minute before sitting back up, reaching for it, and sniffing it.
No real discernible scent, either. THIS WAS SO SUSPICIOUS. Jaemin gave it another sniff and looked up at the professor, watching him closely. He wasn't drinking this stuff until he had to.

Sadly that wouldn't be the case when she was joined by someone. Lifting her head at her name was enough to allow the feeling of momentary dread to ebb away some. It was Brooklyn. Thank the heavens!
"Brooklyn," she greeted with a small nod of her head. Partners. The fellow snake was one of the few people she would accept right now. The girl knew how to brew a potion, never blew anything up and the two of them communicated just fine. Situation calmed.
Listening to what they would be doing somewhat took Hady by surprised but she didn't show it. A poison? Really? With a slight look of indifference she turned her gaze onto the girl beside her. "Who should take it first?" It was fine by her either way since they would both be getting a turn with this.
There was a reason why she worked well with Hady. There was almost an unspoken communication thing going on, since they rarely had to say much to each other to know what was happening. Brooklyn knew the relief that went through Hady, even though her housemate hadn’t really let anything on as to her feelings. Just the simple return exchange of her name, and then both had chosen to pay attention to the explanation of what was happening in the lesson.
At that point, Brooklyn had flashbacks of the fear potion. How helpless she’d felt, how defensive. Hoe paranoid afterward due to the attack that had happened while she, Cutty and Ethan had been under the influence. Plus, she hardly trusted Professor Newton enough to believe that nothing would happen. She knew better than to telegraph that, and her expression had nearly been identical to Hady’s as she’d turned back to her. At least she knew she’d be able to brew the antidote, but there was still that question. Who should go first?
“I will,” she finally said. Considering they’d both have to take it, she might as well get it over with. Not that she really believed it was diluted enough not to hurt them. She just trusted that Hady would save her. Neither of them would leave cat orphans today. As such, she got up and approached the professor to retrieve her portion of the poison. Hopefully they’d have time before they had to drink it.

Mel looked over to the other girl when she asked if she wanted to be partners and grinned. “I’d love to honestly,” she admitted with a grin. “I’m Melbourne, its nice to meet you Madge” she grinned over to her.
“So do you want to brew the potion first or have me do that?” She asked carefully because she’d do it either way honestly.
