As you crest the staircase coming up from the sixth floor, you'll notice a statue to your right. Lachlan the Lanky is a great, if not extremely old, landmark for a meeting place, because he has just enough space behind him for a firstie to squeeze in and hide.
Never underestimate the element of surprise when greeting your friends, and even more so when sneaking up on your enemies. This statue of a wizard innocently reading is anything but innocent.

It was always more fun when you came up with the task yourself. "It'll be an adventure." Janelle liked adventures and she liked Rachel, so it was a win-win.
Janelle joined Rachel in laughter, when the younger girl said that she might scare her friends sometime. It was all in good fun, right? And then Rachel decided to practice her hiding skills. "Yes, I think you definitely should try. You never know when you might need a good hiding place........for whatever reason." At Hogwarts, it was always best to be prepared........for whatever. "Don't worry. I've got your back, but you won't need my help. You won't get stuck." Rachel was small enough to get in and out easily. There was no reason why she should get stuck. "Go ahead, give it a go." Janelle stood back to watch the fun.
Rachel was ecstatic that Janelle was game for her ideas. "I'm sure we'll find something.'' She knew they could ask a Professor, perhaps Professor Finch, but it would be better and even more fun to research using books. "It will be an adventure through time.'' That meant that they would have to go through books on history. She giggled. It was too bad they couldn't actually travel back in time.
"For Haddie,'' the first year spoke up. "It would be fun to scare her sometime.'' She had no doubt that her once best friend would appreciate the little prank even though the two were not speaking. Possibly scaring Haddie would change that situation. At Janelle's encouragement, Rachel nodded. "Here I go.'' With another giggle, she slipped behind the statue and soon found herself well hidden without a hitch. "Find me if you can, Janelle!'' she called, feeling as though she were playing hide and seek with her friends again.

Janelle was already enjoying their proposed adventure. "An adventure through time. Yes. It'll be like we're virtual time travelers. We'll have a lot of fun." They could have fun and learn something at the same time. Janelle always liked learning new things. She kind of fancied herself a trivia queen. She had a head full of random information.
Janelle laughed when Rachel named her intended target. She was really getting into this scaring your friend thing. Hopefully Haddie would be a good sport and not get upset about the prank. Before she knew it, Rachel was squeezing her way behind the statue. Smiling at the younger girl, Janelle said, "I can't see you at all.""You're just the right size to fit back there. Are you comfy or are you squished?" Janelle could just picture Rachel jumping out and surprising her friends.
"I tell you what. Let's practice. I'll pretend to be Haddie walking by and you give me your best scare." Janelle walked down the hall a ways and turned around. "Here I am. I'm Haddy, just walking along without a clue. Give it your best shot." Oh this was going to be funny.

Since both the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw tower entrances were on the 7th floor, it just made sense that Mel and Haddie would exchange Christmas gifts somewhere along the 7th floor corridor. Haddie had chosen the creepy statue that sits by the stairs as you come up or go down to classes. Because, well, why wouldn't she? It was creepy.
Melon wasn't there yet, partially because Haddie was a bit early. She stood awkwardly next to the statue for a moment, looking up and down the corridor, then checking down the stairs. No one in sight. Perfect. Squeezing behind the statue, the perfect hiding place, Haddie waited for the lioness to show, quiet and still as a mouse.
Mel was excited to do this, and sorry that she hadn’t been able to meet up to exchange sooner. Honestly she had to make sure that Haddie’s gift was absolutely perfect right? Walking over to the statue she just grinned as she saw the statue and began to look around.
Where was Haddie? She wondered for a moment before leaning against the statue. Perfect vantage point.

The small unholy hand of a pre-teen California girl, twisted and contorted into talons, reached out of the shadows behind the statue. In a flash it seized the lioness' shoulder with a haunting roar, that was, quite frankly, rather pitiful. The eagle popped out from behind the statue a moment later, laughing her little head off. "I got you," she claimed. Whether or not she actually did get Melon didn't matter in the least.
Still grinning and chuckling to herself, Haddie dug Mel's gifts out of her bag and handed them over. They were wrapped with paper that featured a cartoonish, sort of crazed looking Rudolph on them. Naturally, that was the wrapping paper Haddie picked. They were two books. Lame, she knew but, they were the best she could think of. One of the book was a 1001 magical pranks. It had a small disclaimer not to try them at your place of school or work, so naturally, that was where they had to do try them. The second one was one of those survival scenario books for kids and teens. How to survive any magical catastrophe. Which, honestly, was better for ideas of how to get them into trouble rather than get them out of trouble.
So, yeah. Books, lame and all that, in terms of gifts at least. But these books would provide her Gryffindor bestie and fellow adventurer lots of non-booky fun. "Did you have a good Christmas?"

Rachel could not stop herself from giggling once more. Janelle was the ideal friend to have around if you wanted to have an adventure that somehow involved books. "This sounds fun and exciting right now, Janelle.''
Now that she was well concealed behind the statue, Rachel realised she had been silly to think that she would get stuck. She was quite comfortable. "I'm quite fine, actually. You were right. I won''t get stuck in here.'' All she needed now was someone to jump out at. Someone else whom would be fun to scare: Ava. Her Gryffindor friend liked pranks too.
Goodness! What had Janelle just suggested? Rachel honestly didn't think she could be scary but perhaps just jumping out from the statue would be enough to get the job done. "Alright. Here I go.'' She paused for about two seconds, readying herself, before jumping out of the statue exclaiming, "BOOOO!''

Janelle smiled as Rachel seemed to be enjoying her new hiding place. She was such a sweet girl and Janelle was amused by her new found desire to prank. Now it was time for a little role playing. Janelle didn't really know Haddie, but given her food fighting history and ability to........speak her mind, she knew she was no shrinking violet.
Walking confidently down the hall, Janelle jumped and appeared to be extremely startled when Rachel yelled boo. "Merlin Rachel. You scared me!", Janelle said in her best attempt at a Haddie voice. Then she dissolved into laughter. "That was perfect Rachel. Just scary enough to make me jump, but not scary enough to give me a heart attack." One wanted to scare one's friends, not kill them. "I think you and Lachlan will be having a lot of good times together." Watching Rachel made Janelle a little nostalgic for her first year self. Too bad she couldn't still fit behind old Lachlan.

Would she be scary enough? Rachel was not sure. She doubted ever so much that she could be, however. Could someone who constantly wore clothing in various shades of pink and had her hair tied in two plaits and giggled a lot be scary?
Giggling was what Rachel Watson was doing now because Janelle's Haddie impression was quite good. "Your impression of Haddie was excellent, Janelle. If she could hear it, she would be proud.'' But at the moment, Rachel could not tell Haddie of this since their friendship had not been repaired. "That's good because I don't want anyone to have that.'' A heart attack would be terrible! "We will. Thank you for encouraging me to try hiding.'' She would make the most of it while she could fit there.

"Are you heading back to the Common Room?''
Rachel was laughing and that made Janelle laugh too. When the younger girl complimented her performance, Janelle made a dramatic bow. "Why thank you. I tried." Somehow though, she didn't thank that Haddie would be quite as happy with her imitation. But, it was definitely fun to do. The whole impression thing made Janelle think of Zeke's imitation of Professor Flamsteed and that made her laugh all over again.
Turning her attention back to Rachel, Janelle said, "You are very welcome.. "It was my pleasure." Then thinking for a moment, Janelle added her words of wisdom. "Be sure to use your new power for good and not evil", she said with mock seriousness. Janelle was sure that Rachel would not do anything crazy, now that she had her prime hiding place.
And then, it was time to go. "Yes, I'm going back to the Common Room. You too?""Come on. We can walk together." Janelle had enjoyed her little "break from the madness" with Rachel. Little unexpected things could brighten up your day.

"You should definitely consider a career in performing arts,'' Rachel advised and at the same time, getting the feeling that she was developing into a career adviser to Ravenclaws. She had given a tad to Rooney and even more so to Austin. She looked up questioningly at Janelle as the girl burst out laughing again and smiled. Perhaps she thought their little adventure here was superbly funny.
Rachel giggled then gave a little curtsy. "I will only use it for the greater good,'' she replied, now serious but then gave a tiny giggle again. The younger Eagle gave Lachlan a pat on the back before scurrying closer to Janelle so that they could head back to the common room. "We'll reason out the question at the Knocker together.''
It was not such an uncommon thing for Daxton to be bored these days, but that did not make it any less of a risky situation. He had always subscribed to the idea that only boring people could be bored, but in recent months he had discovered this to be untrue; Daxton knew with absolute certainty that he was for from boring, and yet here he was, bored. No matter what he did - reading, tormenting younger students (and sometimes older ones), researching as much as he could about Legilimency, working on inventing new spells - none of it left him satisfied, and now he was quite simply bored of being bored. It was almost enough to tempt him into attending more of his classes. Almost.
Huffing to himself, Daxton frowned as he moved quietly down the corridor, glaring out of windows and at the occupants of portraits as he passed them, before finding himself at the statue of Lachlan the Lanky. Just another boring old statue.
Still with the same impassive expression as ever, Daxton tilted his head at the statue, all the while reaching into his pocket and pulling out a black marker pen. Without so much as a look to check that the coast was clear, he climbed up onto the statue's plinth, grabbing onto Lachlan's shoulder to keep himself from falling straight back off, and used the marker to give it a thick black, artistically twirling moustache, spectacles, and angry eyebrows. Jumping nimbly back down from the plinth, Daxton recapped the marker, shoved it back into his pocket, and stepped back to view his handiwork.

Daxton had been fully aware of the presence of someone walking right by him; it would have been quite impossible for him not to be, as the sneezing could be heard long before the culprit had appeared in the corridor. And yet he had not stopped, nor attempted to hide what he was doing, nor run away before he could be collared. Instead the young Ravenclaw had simply carried on about his business, figuring that this at least might liven up the day a little.
He looked at her now, the person who had caught him - though 'caught' was not exactly the correct term when he had been so very blatant in his actions. A professor. Jackpot. Something was wrong with her, though. A cold, most likely, though it was allergy season. Daxton knew all about allergies, and had worked tirelessly to find an allergy potion that he could brew without having to cast a spell, and had managed to learn and finally perfect one recently. One he had to take each day in order for it to work, but nevertheless, it was efficient. And because he had triumphed in that particular area, Daxton thought it reasonable to believe that a professor might as well. So, believing the woman had a cold rather than allergies, he took a step to the side, away from any germs that might try to go for him next.
At the comment about his handiwork, Daxton raised his own eyebrows an infinitesimal amount, and looked up at the statue again. That had seemed to be an criticism of his artistic ability, and a rather feeble one at that; the eyebrows were fine. He shrugged one shoulder, nonchalance seeming to radiate off him in waves - a side effect of chronic ennui - before wincing ever so slightly at the sound of throat-clearing, a grating noise only made worse by the threat of an imminent germ attack. A shadow of a grimace passed over Daxton's face, and he took another very obvious side-step away.

Daxton Prince. The shrug and the silence had jogged her memory. He wasn't just quiet. He was eternally quiet, never speaking out in her class... Always with that same calmly unamused look on his young face. Nana had taken special note of him many times, but had never outright reached out to him, believing he would come along on his own time.
This was not in the manner she had hoped.
Despite her brevity and momentary admiration for the young boy, Nana found herself unamused. He was s nonchalant, so unrepentantly calm and unmoved. It was impossibly evident as the Ravenclaw boy stared up at her that he in no way felt even a bit of shame for defacing school property. It was ruffling her feathers. "Are you intending to remove that?" Nana calmly asked, arms crossed over her chest. She glanced from the Ravenclaw to the statue and back, her meaning quite obvious. She was giving him a chance, Nana sincerely hoped he would be clever enough to take it.

He had stepped away, clearing the immediate danger zone of potential germs, but Daxton still felt that every second he stood in this professor's presence raised the odds of his getting sick. And, being that he kept a great distance between himself and the Healer at all times, if he were to get sick, there would be no choice but to suffer through it. Then he would be even more bored.
There was not much time to ruminate on this, however, because she was still speaking to him. That was good, Daxton supposed. Though social interaction was astoundingly low on his list of priorities, it sometimes helped to break up the monotony of the day, particularly when the potential for ticking someone off was high. He thought he might have managed it now, and that almost made him feel the first stirrings of satisfaction.
Daxton simply looked at the professor for a moment, briefly recalling the classes of hers he had attended, though never really participated in aside from attempting the spell non-verbally and then resolving to try on his own later. There was only so much he could do when speaking was out of the question.
Having looked the professor up and down, Daxton gave a simple shake of the head. An honest answer, this time free of attitude, though it could be difficult to tell with his often emotionless affect and phenomenally unconcerned expression. But no, he had not been, and still was not, intending to remove it.
It was art.

Don't sneeze, Ichihara. You can't be intimidating when you're sneezing. The brunette closed her eyes, attempting through sheer will to keep her mucus to herself as the frustrating feeling of a fast approaching sneeze tickled her nose. Somehow, miracle beyond miracles, she managed to keep it together. Although she could not help but sniffle in a very undignified manner. Of course it was when she had been reduced to a sniveling, red-eyed mess of a woman that she found herself reprimanding a student.
if it got to that point. Nana was quietly hoping the young boy would remove his handiwork and scurry off to entertain himself in less... destructive manners. It would not be a joy, no, she would take no pleasure in punishing the Ravenclaw for his transgression. Not when the boy seemed.... Not quite right. It was strange, but Nana didn't consider the act malicious. It felt decidedly casual, not angry and she simply could not imagine mister Prince was doing it for attention or as an act of rebellion.
And yet, it remained that he had done it. regardless if he had done it casually, with or without anger or any known motives for rebellion, he had purposely ruined a piece of Hogwarts and willfully refused to amend it. "Mister Prince. Traditionally I would ask again, but I don't believe-" ahem, ahem. Damn allergies. "I do not believe you will answer in a more affirming manner." She paused, dark eyes set on his young features, searching for any indication that he might feel regret. "and so I will avoid asking and simply get to business."
"I believe a detention is in order." She had no time to beat around the bush or play games. She was not Myers who would waste breath on giving the boy chances, nor was she Draper who would likely treat him harshly, she preferred to get straight to the point of things. "I will speak to your head of house and we will work out a fitting punishment as well as a time for it." Nana took out her wand and with a simple flourish she removed the marker from the statue's face, leaving it as dignified as ever.
"I suggest you go back to your common room now, Mister Prince." She calmly added, tucking her wand back into her sleeve.

Maybe she was not sick, Daxton thought in a moment of dawning realisation. Maybe she had been crying. That usually made people bleary-eyed and sniffly, and it was far more favourable than that she was diseased and breathing said disease all over his air. But just because it was favourable did not mean it was true, and so Daxton kept his distance even while ruminating on what might have made the Transfiguration professor cry.
She was still talking at him though, so Daxton was still listening. He kept watching, waiting to hear what she had to say in the face of what he supposed was considered a transgression.
Detention, then. And she would be speaking to Kitridge. Neither of those outcomes filled Daxton with much regret, fear, or shame. On the contrary, he was torn between feeling a complete lack of concern and slight satisfaction about livening his day up a little.
Remaining silent, Daxton's eyes followed the path of the professor's wand, removing his art and eliciting the slightest of frowns from his own features. He had been hoping to see how long the additions to the statue might last, and here was that plan scuppered. Still, it did not matter so much.
Looking back at the professor, Daxton nodded his head hit the once. Before he moved along, however, he stood staring at her for just a moment longer, tilting his head ever so slightly. And then the moment passed, and Daxton nodded once more and went on his way, shoving his hands into his pockets as he did so.
