Default History of Magic Lesson One

As you walk into the History of Magic classroom, you might first notice the five rectangular objects covered with sheets and propped up along the front wall. They are covered more for the benefit of the objects underneath, from which quiet murmurs can be heard occasionally, rather than for any kind of surprise or secrecy.

Professor Finch is found leaning casually against his desk at the front of the room, waiting for students to arrive as he greets each one. "Good morning.. please take your seat at the table marked with your name." He gestures to the multiple tables with four chairs each that fill the room instead of traditional desks. There are four nametags at each table, already filled out with names of the students enrolled in this class, in a random order. Hopefully this will help him retain the names that he still has trouble remembering at times, though he will know if you are sitting at the incorrect name.

Also located at the center of each table is a small caddy with several colors of markers, paint pens, glitter glue, and a handful of stickers. "Feel free to embellish your nametags if you'd like while we wait for everyone to arrive." Or not, it didn't matter to him. But he knew that people needed to express themselves in their own individual way at times, and it was often good to occupy young people while there downtime.

OOC- Come on in and take a seat! The names are in random order so it is up to you at which table your character's name is located, but it's likely that they aren't sitting next to their best friend. But as Professor Finch would say - think of this as broadening your horizons and giving you the opportunity of getting to know someone new! =)

Default Professor & Violetta - Question 2/3
Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium

SPOILER!!: Professor Finch
Was Hadleigh discouraged with his answer? Ansley gave her a reassuring smile and shook his head. "I certainly didn't say you wouldn't be able to, but it does take some training and a lot of practice. Are you up for the challenge? Maybe you'd like to learn." And he would actually be happy to have a little apprentice if she were interested.

Wait.

What?

Did Professor Finch just offer to take her on as his apprentice? It did sound that way. Hady's frown was gone and she was once more grinning. "I am Sir and I would. I'd certainly put forth all my effort into learning." She assured him with a firm nod of her head. Taking on another task probably wasn't the best idea but she would sooooo love to do this on her own. Please say yes, please!

SPOILER!!: Portrait Violetta
"I certainly did not," she replied rather snootily when asked if she attended Hogwarts. As if she would enroll in such a drafty castle. "As a matter of fact, I attended the prestigious Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts. Not for the dramatics, though," she added as an afterthought. But given her famous career, one might have already guessed. Oh did they want to know what it was like there? Anyone would... an education there was enviable. "I studied under the most talented and experienced of teachers who helped me develop my own innate talents."

Oops.

Apparently the snakette had started off with the wrong question. Oh well. No taking it back now. At least she had an answer. Wizarding school of Dramatic Arts huh? Well then.

"Could you tell me more about some of your talents? Or maybe about a few of the things you learned while in school there?," Hady asked Violetta quietly. Even if the portrait was snippy she seemed to enjoy talking about herself. Hopefully these questions would get her talking more.

I like it…what do you like being called though?” She asked because really if she liked being called Ilia she’d call her that.

“I mean if you like being called Ilia I’ll call you that…even if Freya’s awesome being a Norse goddess and everything” she grinned because really runes and runic lore were something she had always been interested in.

When Professor Finch began explaining their activity Mel just grinned. This sounded awesome – really talking to portraits. So great. Hopefully no one was boooooooooring. Zeke’s suggestion really did sound great though.

“Yeah that sounds good to me…do you guys want to do even less work and tackle the guy that’s not in his portrait?” She asked looking at the surprisingly empty portrait.

Well at least Mel was up for it... the group thing. Making faster work of things was totally something he was up for. Sharing was caring, and whatever... mmhmm.

As for tackling the guy not in his portrait, "somehow I don't think we'd get away with interviewing an empty portrait..." one could hope though.

SPOILER!!: Dante

Well Dante liked the name Violetta Bulstrode best. He wanted to ask if her parents hated her when they named her.

"How about we all ask one portrait questions. So that would be four questions plus just one more from any of us. I like the name Violetta Bulstrode the best so that is my vote."

Dante said shrugging. That was his say. If they decided on something different. He would go along.

He did not care.

It was a plan. Officially. Minimal effort and maximum outcome... "I'm cool with Bullstrode," he confirmed with a slight shoulder shrug. He didn't think it really mattered either way.

SPOILER!!: Finch

Was Hadleigh discouraged with his answer? Ansley gave her a reassuring smile and shook his head. "I certainly didn't say you wouldn't be able to, but it does take some training and a lot of practice. Are you up for the challenge? Maybe you'd like to learn." And he would actually be happy to have a little apprentice if she were interested.

He slowly wandered about the room, observing how the students interacted with the portraits. Whoops. Violetta was set off already. He was half-tempted not to bring her today, but being on loan from one of his painting friends, he felt she could be a good addition. "Violetta is a tough nut to crack," he told Hadley with a sympathetic smile, though he was always amused with her attitude. "She just needs her ego catered to." The Ravenclaw could try that or she could talk to a different portrait, didn't matter to him.

He happened to hear a couple of students (Mel and Dante) at the same table commenting on how to do even less work. Yeah, no. "Everyone does the same amount of work, in a group or not. The activity is five questions per person, not per group." Laziness certainly wasn't the way to get on this professor's good side and all it really did was keep them in his mind to keep an eye on them. But that reminded him that it was probably a good time to let them know what their actual assignment was so that they all chose their questions wisely.

"Listen up real quick, class," he called out, wanting all of their attention for a moment. "Keep up with the interviewing of the portraits, you're all doing a great job.." At least those that have started anyway. "Remember to ask at least five question for the portrait of your choice. Once you feel like you know a little bit about that person's life and contribution to history, I want you to write a paragraph or two for me to grade, but you will also present this to the class." He did not expect them to interview each of the portraits, so this would be one way for the rest of the students to learn about the others. And it would help assess how well they participated along with what they learned from one portrait or another.

"If you are working in a group, only one of you need to present, but you all will need to hand in your own work, in your own words." None of that all handing in the exact same essay. "And even if you are not currently working in a group, you might want to at least compare notes when finished to help fill in any blanks." But that was up to them.

OOC - Keep working everyone, you are all doing great! I'm not trying to rush anyone, you still have plenty of time to ask the portraits questions! I just wanted to let you know what you will be doing once questions have been asked just in case that guided how your character asked them. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask via VM/PM/Twitter/Skype.

.... and Finch was being a party pooper again. The dude really wasn't inspiring, was he?

Not only was this bogus, but they EACH had to ask 5 questions? In a group that was harder. There were four of them, which meant they needed 20 questions - and naturally that was more difficult to think of than 5. Would they get extra credit? He doubted it somehow. Lame.

SPOILER!!: Ilia

Poor Dante, seriously.....Merlin that was awful. Point being though, it wasn't the amount of points lost that added sunshine to her disposition. No, it was really just a person she didn't much like right now getting reprimanded for his behavior. A sense of smugness at what she felt to be due justice really.

She wasn't surprised that he ignored her comment, but she was certain that he'd heard her. That was enough.

As for his suggestion though. "I'm certain that is the first intelligent sentence that I have heard out of your mouth lion boy. I'm for it as well, it only makes sense really." She didn't like him one little bit right now, but, his 'help' should make this whole thing easier.

She seemed to like the idea of an incendiary moniker. "Burn it is then. Until you tire of it at least." She laughed a little when she said it. Honestly it was almost....sort of...cute? She seemed like she would be a bubbly little spit fire so why not? That sort of personality appealed to the blonde in general.

Hmm, she liked her first name AND knew what it was. Interesting. She probably liked ancient runes or something along those lines. Whatever she liked, and yet, the girl seemed predisposed to her first name. It was either way really, they were both her name. "Well, they are both my name, just different parts. My first name Freyja is indeed for the goddess, Ilia is my middle name. Either that you prefer is fine really, even some of my family uses them interchangeably." She smiled warmly at the younger girl to confirm that she really meant her words.

She was for it too, good. That was three people. The portrait that was out for a waltz? "I would think if he were out, it would make it harder for us, not simpler." They were going to have to ask questions regardless. 5....well....there it was.

Dante seemed to have an idea, but then the professor clarified. Well, it was a nice try sir. She couldn't blame him for the thought. "Well, with greater insight into our assignment, twenty questions will be easier to derive a good essay than five. I am still for a group discussion and I am fine with speaking to Lady Bulstrode. She is in her portrait so, that may at least make it easier. But, whatever the greatest amount of votes. Any of them will work honestly." She didn't care who, lets just get this done guys. "Who do we chose, and who shall start?" Did they have an idea and accord? She would help the process however she could.

Wow. A compliment. Zeke would have been flattered if he had cared, but as it so happened his caring factor was on '0' where crazy girl was concerned. If she stayed out of his way, he'd offer her the same courtesy. Somehow, so far, they'd managed to be seated at the same table without much difficulty. "How kind of you to say," he'd drawled in reply. Super.

And what was that rubbish about it being greater insight? Easier to write an essay? That was.... so dumb. He could write a perfectly sound essay with 3 questions, really. Ugh.

"Well no point sitting around, let's get this started," he mused, taking a spare parchment and his quill with him. Note taking, it was a thing.

Approaching the Bullstrode portrait, Zeke got the party rolling with what he figured whas the most basic of questions. "Ms Bullstrode? May I ask about your early life? When and where were you born?"

Yes. That. First question, the very beginning... it was only logical.

OOOOOH he'd been a Ravenclaw? That was pretty cool! He looked like a Ravenclaw. If they had a look - which Scarlett thought they totally did. Hmm, what would her next question to the portrait be? She tapped her chin in thought as she pondered it...

"When did you attend school? Like what year?" she asked. She wondered if by some miracle it had been when her father had been at school, or even teaching - but that was a stretch. He was probably MUCH older than that.

Saying that, she linked her arm through the other girl's so that they were bounded by the elbows.

Hoping that Haddie would stay, she smiled at Kitty and the other boy (Tenacius) who had joined them. The Eagle giggled. They all seemed to be rather taken with Augustus's hair. But it was bittersweet that the portrait's human counterpart died of old age. "What did he do for a living? You human counterpart, I mean.''
Haddie simply nodded to at Professor Finch, but didn't say anything back. Great, just what a class should teach, how to stroke the ego of a splattering of oil paint on a canvas. All the while Rach was being Rach, linking her arm in Haddie's and trying to smooth things over for the Californian girl.

Haddie wasn't in the mood though, honestly. Not for chatting with any other portraits, or writing the paragraph, and definitely not for presenting. She also wasn't in the mood to argue with Rachel... would Rachel be able to sense that? Still, she was going to try at least once. "Counter offer, you help me sneak out unnoticed, and I give you my cupcake at dinner tonight." She grinned, hopeful.

Rachel sighed. She knew Haddie would remain stubborn about this class. Cupcakes? She cast the girl a sharp look. "That's low of you, Hadleigh Holland Denaker,'' she whispered so as to not disturb the others. "You know cupcakes are my absolute favourite sweet treats so you're using it against me.'' The dark haired Eagle was in a dilemma though. An extra cupcake sounded heavenly but she didn't want Haddie to skive the class.

She weighed the pros and cons of this in her head, using all her logic to arrive at the better solution. Finally, she shook her head. "I am not going to let you leave. Questions pertaining to the portraits may be a part of the final exams. I don't want you failing this subject.'' If Haddie had been sick, it would have been a different mater but no amount of cupcakes was going to let Rachel make Haddie leave. "I'm sorry, Haddie.'' She linked their arms tighter together.

Her attention was back on Flume.

Yes. That. First question, the very beginning... it was only logical.

Professor Finch had burst her little idea of making this an easy project….well, and the portrait showing up. “I didn’t mean less work…I meant the portrait was empty at first” Mel said tipping her head at the portrait she was indicating to. “But I like your idea Dante…we could each ask one question per person five times and make the portrait answer one after another in a circle?” She offered because that could be fun…and easy.

“Alright. I’ll use them both maybe?” She offered with a grin…really, it wasn’t that she liked ancient runes she just like historical things and mythology in general…heck, growing up with a bunch of boooooooring history buffs kind of did that to you.

“oooh yes. Let’s do that then!” Mel agreed with Ilia almost instantly because making the assignment easier was better than being silly about things. “Bullstrode it is then” Mel nodded when she heard Zeke’s approval. Sorry Dante, it was a majority vote. Mel liked the question that Zeke came up with it was smart, easy, and really a great start for the essay but really…they needed loads of details.

“Hello Ms Violetta Bulstrode,” Mel started. “First off – might I ask what you would like to be called? And secondly,” she added trying to build off of Zeke’s questions, “with your early life did you have a large family?”

The dark haired Eagle was in a dilemma though.

Haddie glared at her best friend a moment. So typical of Rachel. She could be so insufferable sometimes. Infuriatingly so. "Fine!" she hissed back. "But you are asking the questions, AND doing the presentation, AND I get your cupcake tonight!" How'd ya like dem apples? Huh? Take that!

She sat down on a table next to the portrait Rachel was talking to, swinging her legs as waited for Rachel to finish up with the questions. And started to drum her fingers on the desk.

Janelle's portrait of choice was now surrounded by several students, all firing questions at the woman. As Ms. Timms began to respond, Janelle had to listen carefully for the answer to her question. Ahhhh. She was a seeker. That meant that Ms. Timms was a professional Quidditch player. Clearly she thought that the students knew who she was. Maybe they did, but Janelle was pretty much clueless about her subject.

Hoping to change all of that, Janelle geared up for question number two. "Ms. Timms, what are some of your other interests............besides Quidditch, that is?" She would imagine that Quidditch wasn't the only thing that the seeker was interested in.

Quill and notebook in hand, Janelle took down the important details. She had some paragraphs to write. Apparently she was also going to have to make a presentation to the class. Was it too late to rethink the -I'll just go solo and forgo the group-idea?

Default Augustus Flume second question - mention of Rachel, Tenacius, and Haddie
Mischievous Niffler

Kitty smiled back at Rachel, and she giggled (but not in a rude way) at Tenacius's question about the portraits hair. She found it funny to imagine any students hair falling out before they graduated Hogwarts.

Soon they were joined by Haddie, who began whispering with Rachel. Out of pure curiosity Kitty tried to hear what they were saying, but the only thing she heard was when Haddie hissed "Fine!" and went to sit down. She was angry about something, but curious as Kitty was she knew it would be rude if she asked what she was angry at - because then they would know that she had been eavesdropping.

Then asking her second question to Flume, Kitty crossed her arms and asked, "Were you ever interested in fashion? Your hair is so cool that I wonder if you did. I think it's great when guys are into make up and fashion."

Children already throwing questions at his empty frame before he was even in it. Impatience at its best. Sighing, he slipped back into view and assessed the three students peering into his frame and he jabbed a finger at the younger boy. “You are too close,” he barked. “Back up.” How would he like to have someone in his personal space like that? “Well then?” Let’s get on with the questions then, hmm?

OW. Norah accidentally stepped on his foot! Henric could only grimace back a response, trying his best not to look like he was in pain. "Its fine, Norah...just ask the portrait more questions please..."he mumbled under his breath, shuffling back his feet away from being stepped on again. Soon the man in the frame came into view and started telling the boy at the front to back away a few steps. Frowning slightly, he wondered if this Warrington guy wanted to be here in the first place. Oh well...

"Hi...." Henric muttered a greeting. Warrington wanted more questions directed towards him. So impatient....sheesh. "What made you famous, Mr.Warrington?" he asked while raising his hand. Was he knighted? Should he call him a "Sir" too?

Huh. That was an interesting tale, to say the least. Not that the interesting story actually came from any of the portraits, but from David’s experience with… something. It seemed that the boy was leaving out an important piece of information. “And why exactly did you blindfold those three portraits?” he asked giving him an amused, yet suspicious look. Ansley got the general idea, though he would love details. “Mhm,” he murmured in agreement, getting slightly off-topic. “Your mum was my Herbology teacher back in the day.” Long, long ago.. but he’d likely agree with the intense part. It was probably for the best that she never caught him taking samples of certain plants from the greenhouse, or knew what he did with them.

Well, to be honest, that was sort of disappointing for Ansley. Most students did not seem to realize the value that the portraits of Hogwarts had. But maybe a few of them would realize that fact just a little more after today’s lesson, especially as they now had to talk to the portraits to find out a little bit about them. Of course, it could be more about the soft spot he had for them as he painted portraits himself.

“Alright, class, as you heard from some of your classmates, and from me, portraits can not only have some interesting stories to tell, but they can also be quite useful. Some can hide secret passageways, many others are helpful with directions.. but it sounds like many of you haven’t had all that much interaction with the magical portraits here at Hogwarts. And I have to say, you’re missing out. They can really be an invaluable resource.”

“Today we are going to try a little exercise,”
he said, waving his wand at the sheet-covered portraits at the front of the room to remove their sheets. “I want each of you to choose one of the portraits and ask them a few questions to get to know about the life of the person they were painted from and their contribution to history. You can do this as a group with your table if you’d like, or not. But for now, gather some information.” He’d give further instructions later.

He gently levitated each of the five portraits to different areas of the room. “This is Artemesia Timms,” he pointed to the first portrait of a woman in her thirties. Augustus Flume..” he gestured to the eccentric looking elderly man with wild white hair. Violetta Bulstrode,” he gestured to the middle-aged woman, ignoring the class in favor of carefully examining her frame. “Lucian.. uh, Lucian Warrington.” This painting was currently empty except for an indistinct background. “I’m sure he’ll be back soon enough… And Elliot Kegworth.” He pointed to the last portrait, that of a man in his twenties.
WHAT?! Davie's mum had been Professor Finch's TEACHER? of HERBOLOGY? Whoaaaaaaaa. "That must have been... the first time she taught here..." he mused aloud, already calculating how old Finch must be if Davie's ANCIENT mom had taught him. Ha ha ha ha. In all seriousness, the second-year was carefully ignoring the professor's question about why he had blindfolded portraits, but really, that wasn't important now, was it? They had to move on! They had to talk to... to the stuff.

As soon as Haddie got up to go talk to a portrait, Davie did too, only heading in the opposite direction. She hadn't liked his note, had she? HAH. At least she wasn't a tattle tale and was turning him in to the professor... so who was she talking to? Violetta Bulstrode? Huh. David wasn't, like, spying on his archenemy or anything though he totally was, he just could't help overhearing how the girl insulted the portrait and stormed off. Well well. How typical of her... and that wasn't half as interesting as how Miss Violetta had gone to WADA! Davie sneaked closer so he could ask the portrait a question.

Wow, that guy was old. Well...no? The real person was long dead. This guy was just a portrait. So though he had been painted a long time ago he was not technically old because portraits didn't age. But thinking about that for too long made Olly's brain hurt. He was distracted anyway because the guy didn't know what chocolate frogs were. What kind of a live could he have lived with without knowing what chocolate frogs were??

But Olly had another question. "How long did it take to paint this portait of you? Did you have to sit for a long time? Who painted it?" Artists were important too.

A gold star, hmm? That was kind of nice, although Dot wasn't sure if it was just for show or actually meant something in the long run. She shined it up a bit with her sleeve before looking toward the portraits that the professor had set out for them to chat with. None of them were people that Dot already knew, and all of them were getting rather popular.

Nothing to do but shove on through and find a spot for herself. Dot opted for the woman in the closest frame, the one with the very pretty name.

The Slytherin prefect seated herself in front of the portrait and arranged her robes around herself carefully. Y'know what turned out to be nice about her bright hair? People always noticed her eventually, for better or for worse. "Good morning, Madame Bulstrode. My name is Charlotte Wojack-Gusey, and it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Violetta is a very pretty name. Is it a family name?"

Of course you could be any age, but... usually it was old important people who had stuff like this done. Elliot didn't really look the type to be painted, you know? Jaemin tilted his head and looked at the man in the frame, edging a little bit closer. He was less unnerving than other portraits had been.

"Why did you get painted?" People usually had a reason for stuff like this. Right? They didn't just make magical portraits all willy-nilly. It took a long time to make them look right and everything, and then to make them into the right people... spells and stuff, and probably more than that.

He'd have to look up how that all worked, somehow.

But they were still on the subject of Quidditch! And of course they were! They were her fans!

"Your sister isn't that dreadful Cherrine McFancie, is she? She's something of a rival." Artemesia gave Ariadne a knowing look. It was almost as if the beater had put a target on her. It was awful. What were they talking about again? Oh right, her most important event. "Why that would be the day that the Caerphilly Catapults recruited me as their starting seeker." She beamed at all her little fans. Where they her to interview her for a magazine?

But then she let out a little gasp. "I'm not dead!" Her in-person counterpart was quite a bit older, not that that thought was even in her head at the moment. Sometimes she forgot she was a portrait and not a person. Until questions like the next one. "Oh, I've never been in another portrait.. I hadn't had the opportunity until Ansley brought me here." And she had felt a little shy about it.

Ah, more students to chat with, how delightful! And they all had lovely compliments about his hair. They probably already heard his joke about growing it, so no need to repeat himself. "Oh thank you, thank you," he chuckled. "You'll make an old man blush with you flattery." But they had questions for him which he was happy to answer. It was for their education, after all!

"Augustus Flume died of old age, I'm afraid," he said sadly. It was the circle of life, but sad all the same. "And he was much older than I appear now." He smiled broadly at the curly-haired lad. "Ah, the secret is potions! Potions are good for many, many things!" Was the boy adept at potions? Augustus sized him up before looking at the next young lady. Hmm.. Gothic? Did that mean her people came from East Germany? He was unfamiliar with the more current term. "I'm afraid, young miss, that I do not.. I've never spent much time on the Fourth Floor that I remember.." Dark forces sounded like nothing good, but it probably wouldn't affect him much. He was just a painting after all.

Hmph! Violetta turned up her nose at the insolent child as she walked away. Of course she had quite the remark to say in return, but the girl had gone now and she didn't want to exert herself. Did any of these children know what was going on in the world around that time?

"What on earth is a chocolate frog?" That sounded like nonsense and gibberish.

Did everyone see this right now? He was the most popular portrait in the room! Elliot was not exactly used to being the most popular anything, but he would take it right now! Plus he got to educate some students. How great was that? Questions... bring them on!

Young..? They thought he was young? Well, that was something as a surprise as he wasn't feeling all that young, and didn't think that many children regarded 28 as young either, but that was okay! He could take that as a compliment, unless they meant it in an inexperienced way which he certainly was not! "Well, you can be any age to have your portrait painted. I suppose that depends on a wide variety of things..." He wasn't sure what they all were, but e knew there were portraits of all ages at Hogwarts. "I.. well.. being a portrait has it's ups and downs, I suppose. It certainly isn't as mind-stimulating as things were for myself as a person." Or at least he thought. He wasn't that person exactly. "But it's always nice to have someone to talk to if they will listen."

Oh and questions about when he was a student! Boy, that was a long time ago. "I was a Ravenclaw when I was a student here. And I suppose my favorite subject was History of Magic. Or Charms... yes, I always liked Charms too. Can't say that I was a student leader in that way, but I studied very hard when I was in school and learned so much. You all should study hard and do your very best." It was his advice on being successful.

So no Hogwarts…which also meant no Slytherin.

Not that the answer of the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts didn’t clue into the haughty nature of the woman in the frame. Artists could be just as bad…though not her aunt Allie…at least most of the time. When her own question was answered, it was done rather simply. Studied under the best on the field and developed under their tutelage. Olivia wasn’t sure that was much to go on, especially as Professor Finch spoke up to the class once more explaining the purpose of their gathered information.

Great…especially with a painting who liked to shoot looks at people.

At least it hadn’t deterred Esme as much as it bothered Haddie, the Hufflepuff asking Violetta another question. Maybe that would get more information, though Olivia wondered if stage was the right topic. The portrait had mentioned not the dramatics…right? “Forgive our ignorance, Ms. Bulstrode…” she mused, trying a different approach, hoping the woman wouldn’t hold it against them and decide to simply share to help them become fans of hers.

“What year did you graduate?” she asked as well, “in case I want to find out about your work.” The time period of her life might be good to know for whatever report they were to give.

Moving on to the next question. "So you're not a student leader or any kind of hero.... Why your portraits was left in this castle?" Again she asked. "I mean... Did you just left it here without any particular reason? Maybe not... There must be something you have done so in honor to remember you, there's your portrait here in this castle." Come on, Elliot. Professor Finch didn't seem all too impressed with her story of her interaction with a portrait, but to be honest, she didn't blame him. If she was him, she wouldn't have been impressed either because it was rather lame and had she had longer to consider, she probably could have created a more elaborate story with more frills.

No matter though, because it seemed they were getting the opportunity to actually talk with one of five different portrait people, for real.

Considering her options, the seventh year went over to join the Augustus Flume group in time to hear the man telling her third year housemate about how he never spent much time on the fourth floor. "Hello, Mister Flume," Tia greeted in polite fashion. "How come you never spent much time on the fourth floor? Did you not like the library?" Mister Augustus must not have been a Ravenclaw.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

He wasn't sure if it was an actual group per say, but there was Ollie and Norah so he saw no point in NOT talking to the snooty portrait that clearly took his own frame too seriously. Blaise headed over, catching the tail end of the picture not knowing what chocolate frogs were.

"They're only the most amazing things in the world next to jelly slugs and cauldron cakes and ice-mice and cookie dough ice-cream." He said rather helpfully as he settled in next to the two.

"But I have a question for you. If you don't know what chocolate frogs are, are you old enough to have never had candy or did they have different stuff back then?"

Blaise propped his notepad against his knee, ready to take down the answer when it was given.

Tenacius looked at the other kids surrounding Augustus. Yeah they picked out the coolest portrait on the block yeah? Well at least he thought so.

There was something going on with that other Ravenclaw (Hadie), and the curly top looked at her all concerned and confused. Is it just him or are Hogwarts girls kinda moody, or rather mood-swings-y? Does it spread like nargles? Because he could swear Mel was coming down with it.

Oh wait, theres Ms Head Girl. The curly top gave her a cheerful grin and a small wave. Aint they glad they are here together, having survived that smelly ol tent for a bright future of talking to dead people?... In paintings?

But oh, Augustus has responded to his question "Potions?" Was it really that simple? "Do you mean its something to drink or something to put on my hair like shampoo?"

Artemesia was starting to become distracted again – how nice of the artist to have placed her by a window. She liked looking at the birds, and there just happened to be one perched on the windowsill. A question directed to her snapped her out of her daydream. “Hmm? Oh! Hello again!” Artemesia smiled brightly at the lovely girl. “Did you want an autograph?” Unfortunately she would not have been able to provide one being made of paint. “Well Quidditch is just my favorite.. though.. I guess it’s beena while since I’ve played..” Had it? Artemesia couldn’t remember, her mind was getting muddled again. “I also like to watch what’s going on.. Do you know my artist? He put me in a new home.” She smiled brightly at this piece of knowledge. She’d love to get to know some of the other portraits there, but she had been a little shy so far.

What did he do? “Why he was a great potioneer!” Augustus beamed brightly. Such satisfying work it was, brewing potions. And he was proud for others to know about his work. Fashion? He looked at one of the girls and shook his head. “No, can’t say I was ever too fussed about my appearance. More important things at hand…” He smiled politely at the next young lady to arrive. “Hello there! Oh the library is all well and good, but I prefer more practical applications than theoretical ones. I like to get my hands dirty.” He wiggled his fingers at her. He glanced again at the curly-haired boy. "Oh you apply it topically, but I am sure there are ones you can drink too." There were potions for everything, and if there weren't, someone could invent them. "Don't you currently use any?"

Well, this was more like it. Her throngs of fans have arrived and they gave her the proper respect she deserved. And that Charlotte girl – obviously well-bred. Just listen to her manners! She graced the girl with the faintest of smiles. What would she like to be called? “Madame Bullstrode will do nicely, or even Ms. Bullstrode.” They were not acquainted with her well enough to be on a first name basis. Though she appreciated the compliment about her name because she quite agreed. “I don’t know of any other Violetta’s in my family. It’s a special name, all my own. And I am the youngest of four.” The baby of the family, spoiled too, though she wouldn’t have called it that exactly.

So many, many questions… she could hardly keep them all straight. What lengths she would go to for her fans. “I was born in the year 2000 in a village called Haslemere,” she began, trying to summarize several questions into one answer. “I attended the academy from 2011 to 2018. Though of course I began school with much talent, by the time I left, I was able to play 15 musical instruments, leading me to compose and solely perform the well-known operetta, Who Cast the Spell on Music?Certainly they knew about it? But perhaps they weren’t as cultured as she. Or maybe she was only a star in her own mind. She looked squarely at the boy whose father was a possible classmate. “What is your father’s name? Is he also a brilliant musician?” And then another boy asking about her talents. “I sing, I pl- …do I what?! I most certainly do not! I’m not a trained pony.” THE VERY IDEA!

What made him famous? Sounded like the boy was trying to take a shortcut to the assignment the professor had given him, if someone asked Lucian. “Fame is a fleeting, trivial thing and nothing I am interested. My accomplishments are what mattered and I helped to write a very important piece of legislature that is still enforced. That was after fighting in a significant battle to warrant such a law.” And back to trivialities. Lucian shook his head. “That was the dullest four hours of my life.” Second only to tedious questions if this went on much longer without getting to anything substantial. “That was a lifetime and more ago, I don’t remember. Garrick or Garrett somebody.” Or Garth? Who knew. Jelly slugs? Ice mice? More gibberish. Lucian gave the boy a disdainful expression before softening a little. "Why I was very fond of boiled sugar plums back in the day." How long had it been since he had one of those? Shame he couldn't eat one now.

Elliot would have to admit he loved this attention. And he was delighted to answer all the questions to help educate these young minds. “Hello, Jeslyn,” he smiled at the newcomer. “I can’t say I ever snuck out to go to Hogsmeade. We were allowed to go out at assigned times, so there was no need to sneak out. That’s against the rules, you know.” He chuckled. These good students didn’t break the rules, did they?

“Oh, I went to Hogwarts a very long time ago.”
His painted eyes looked up to the top of his frame as he tried to remember the exact dates. “Sixteeeeen.. seventy-four? I think it was, when I was eleven and first came to school. There was much unrest at that time and when I was a little older, I went to work at the Ministry, and was even appointed a seat on the International Confederation of Wizards – one of the youngest wizards ever there!” That was a basic answer to some of the similar questions, he supposed. But he didn’t know why his portrait was placed here. To educate people, maybe? That wasn’t exactly his decision. “I did help decide on something very important though.” How well did they know their history?

Four hours? Imagine if you had to wait four hours to get your picture taken. There would be no pictures of Olly, that was for sure. He could barely sit still for twenty minutes let along four hours. Wow. How awful. Maybe that's how this guy had died. Of boredom. Which reminded him of another question. "How did you die?"

Wait, back to his original line of questioning. He had been going somewhere with that. "Why did you have a portrait painted? Was it because you did something interesting?" You never know. It was possible that he had just happened to have a portrait painted and only became famous after the fact. It seemed unlikely that someone would willingly sit for four hours without a good reason, but still possible.

Default Augustus Flume question 3
Mischievous Niffler

So far the answer to both of Kitty's questions had been "no", Augustus didn't know the backstory to the Tapestry and he didn't care about fashion. She had only asked because personally she liked fashion and wondered if Augustus liked it too. It was a question she asked most people when she first met them, but she didn't mind if the answer was no. One of the other students had asked why he didn't spend much time in the fourth floor, as a follow up to Kitty's own question. Kitty wrote the anser down in her notebook.

"Hey Augustus...are you friends with the other three portraits in this room? Do you talk to them a lot?"It might have been a gossip question, but Kitty was honestly curious.
