Artemesia Timms Ms. Timms seemed to be a very sweet lady. Sweet, but easily distracted. Her answers weren't exactly full of information. Janelle was really going to have to work hard, to get enough information to write a paragraph about the lady. Nevertheless, she jotted down notes on what her subject was saying. Maybe she could read between the lines. Maybe. Thinking very hard, Janelle tried to come up with a better question before the attention started to wander again. "Ms. Timms.......Where did you grow up?" That was a pretty straightforward question. Janelle hoped that she would get a straight answer and that it might shed some light on her subject. |
Violetta Bulstrode & Professor SPOILER!!: Professor Ehhhh! Yaaaayyyyy! If she wasn't in class she probably would've made some type of excited noise at this. However that wasn't the case but the bright sparkle in her eyes just then was a sure fire sign to prove her happiness on her proposal to help her. "Of course, Professor. Thank you," Hady nodded her head firmly. She had to reel her thoughts in and focus first on the current lesson at hand. Was the class over yet? SPOILER!!: Violetta Ahh the piano and the harp. Two incredibly lovely instruments. Both which Hady didn't know how to play however. Sigh. Even though she didn't know much about what was being said she was smart enough to take down some detailed notes. Dante though, really? Hady gave him a small look and shook her head. Upsetting a portrait wasn't the best of ideas and the shrill screaming that came then from Violetta was enough to make even her cringe. Ouch her poor ears. Letting out a slow breath she ran a hand through her hair to get her focus back. "Madame Bullstrode, who painted this wonderful portrait of you and when did you have it painted?" Yes, yes very good question Hadleigh, commenting on the lovelyness of her portrait. Smart move there. |
question 2 for Augustus Flume! Returning the cheerful grin to the curly haired Gryffindor boy, Tia also gave a nod and smile towards Rachel and Kitty who were also in the Flume group, it seemed. She listened to the portrait as he spoke of his namesake in third person, finding it very intriguing actually how he spoke of the person but he wasn't actually that person. Portraits were very strange indeed and Tia had to wonder if the person was still alive, would they still talk in third person about themselves? Practical applications, but not fussed with his appearance. On second thought, perhaps Flume WAS a Ravenclaw. Famous potioneer. OH, oh! "I remember you..." Tia said suddenly, speaking up again. "I mean, I don't remember you, but I remember reading about you." Of course she read about him. "So, magical portraits could portray dead people, obviously, so that means in a sense once you die, your portrait is kind of like a ghost, where you live on in infamy, yes?" It wasn't really a question about Flume's life, but about portraits themselves. She was curious on how they worked. Besides, her fellow classmates were doing well in asking about his life. |
Elliot Kegworth - Question(s) #3 Aw no, Elliot didn't remember the name of the man who painted him? How sad. Was that like not being able to remember ones father? Or maybe it was nothing like that at all. The man in the painting didn't seem TOO saddened by it, and even though Garreth's father was sometimes difficult to deal with, he would be devastated if he couldn't remember him... Or maybe he wouldn't be? If you can't remember someone, can you miss them? Probably not. Ah, now the portrait mentioned not really being a person. What did that mean? Was he some kind of automaton? Like the dummies from DADA? A mindless, soulless object simply simulating a living, thinking human being? Or was it something more? Either way, it seemed the gentleman in the portrait was fully aware of his state. "I guess we're probably supposed to ask about your past and the effect you had on history, this being History Of Magic, but what do you mean you're not a real person? I know you're a portrait, but you look real to me." he boy was incredibly intrigued, and incredibly confused. "Do you have the memories of Elliot Kegworth? Do you feel like you are him and he is you? Were you painted from memory after his death, or were you just told one day that "you" had died?" So many questions! How was he supposed to narrow that down to a short conversation? It couldn't be done! COULDN'T BE DONE, I TELL YOU! |
Post 4 - Violetta Bulstrode - Question 3 It seemed the overall curiousity of Olivia and her remaining classmates around worked and soothing the portrait's feelings. And perhaps stoked her ego too. The Ravenclaw wrote down the provided information, both from her own question and those of the others. Like her birthday and the years she went to the academy. Good...good. It could all be useful to them, how much depending on the direction their reports went later on. The next round of questions was posed and Olivia was about to supply her own after thinking on it, when Violetta was clearly bothered one of the remarks. Really...the older boy HAD to insult her name. Get her all upset and yelling that made the Ravenclaw winch. Snarky snake that one. Hopefully the portrait might continue with her and the others still. She would start with her own question, beginning again. "What was the hardest thing about the performing arts?" |
Aretmesia Timms Janelle thought of another question and before she could lose the Seeker's attention, she fired it off. Sure, she hadn't yet gotten the answer to her previous question, but Janelle figured she'd strike while the iron was hot. Making sure to keep eye contact with the portrait, Janelle went for it. "Ms. Timms, another thing.........who actually taught you to play Quidditch? You know, who was responsible for creating the legend?" Janelle knew that she was taking a big chance, having two questions on the table at once. That may have been too much for Ms. Timms to handle, given her reaction to questioning so far. But......with her fingers crossed, Janelle waited for a response. |
Question 4 for Elliot! Quote:
"Did you ever consider teaching at Hogwarts? If so, what subject would you teach?" she asked. SHE would teach Divination like her dad of course. But she could see herself as a Charms teacher too... |
Quote:
"Right...no candy then--that's okay, mum says it rots your teeth if you have too many. Although...if you did ruin your teeth, couldn't they just paint you with really good looking ones?" A curious thought now that he happened upon it. "In fact, how do we know you really look like this and didn't ask them to paint you nicer? Did you like clothes like the one you're wearing now? I mean I could paint new ones on you if you held still." Awful generous, wasn't he? How many kids would offer to spend their afternoon making a Portrait feel prettier? Er...not prettier...he was a man...um...you got the idea though. He WAS interested in why he'd been painted--as Olly had asked. |
Violetta Bulstrode (Question 4) It was always nice to talk to someone who was musically gifted - even if they weren't exactly NICE. Esme smiled at Violetta. "I play mostly for myself, but my mom was in a band. As far as harps and pianos, both have petals and make sound when taut strings are pulled/struck." Even though the piano was her favourite instrument, she DID enjoy the harp. O_O Sweet Merlin. Violetta had a set of pipes on her. The boy had been silly in asking that question, and it had cost his House points. It was a mistake that she wouldn't make because she knew better than to disrespect something like a portrait or a ghost; those were unspoken Hogwarts rules. "What was your favourite piece of music to play on the piano?" she asked the portrait. Maybe they shared musical tastes. |
Artemesia Timms Artemesia Timms must be taking a whole lot of time to think, because she still hadn't answered Ariadne's last few questions. The Slytherin first year figured she'd take the opportunity to jot down some more notes for that paragraph before she forgot them. She left spaces in her notes under the questions she had recently asked and was still waiting on answers to. Artemesia Timms was one busy woman! When Ariadne was finished catching up on her notes, she looked back up at the portrait with a few more questions she had. "Did you ever play any sports other than Quidditch? Or...what were some of the favorite hobbies of people during that time period?" she asked. She had no idea when the woman lived, so she didn't know what other forms of flying games or...well, whatever...they had back then. "May I ask when you were born, too?" She decided to take the polite route, because she didn't want to risk making the portrait mad again. |
Elliot Kegworth Right. Elliot Kegworth was a very old wizard who had been part of the International Whosie Whatsit and had made the Secrecy thingy happen. Jaemin wrinkled his nose a bit, still stuck on the Secrecy thing; his father had explained to him long ago about how their magic was a secret and there were BIG LAWS about telling Muggles about it. He'd been a bit vague on the details, but something really bad had been happening... it made sense to keep their magic a secret then, when there were bad things happening, but now? Bad things didn't happen now. Jaemin's mom was a Muggle, and it had been safe for his dad to tell her, after all. He stored a bunch of questions up in his head for Train Teacher, to ask him later. The poor man would have no reprieve from the tiny Slytherin in the coming weeks, most likely. Oh right. He was supposed to be asking Elliot stuff. "What was your job at the Ministry, before the... thing?" The International Whosie Whatsit, that is. |
Sorreh about him "Uuuuuuurrrghhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh..." This class was taking aaaaageeeeeeeeeeeessssssss. No wonder. History of magic. It would take ages. Matt couldn't take it anymore. He faceplanted the table in front of him and spread his arms upwards, taking quite a lot of space. He was dooooonnnneeeeeeee. He didn't even pay attention to any of the questions or answers, he just wanted the lesson to end. The Gryffindor knew of looooads of things that were more exciting to do than to be in a History of Magic class. He didn't even like history. What was the point in learning about such OLD things?? Those were modern daayyssss, he didn't need to know stuff about ancient people and happenings. Aaagfjkkghdkjfghdjkfg....... |
SPOILER!!: Artemesia questions She was starting to get a bit emotional, so she took a deep breath (or a portrait’s equivalent) to calm herself down. Oh, her came a handsome young man to greet her as well. She smiled at him though that fade a bit at his question. “I AM still alive,” she huffed. Why did everyone think she was dead? “But I used to play Quidditch,” she added to answer his question.”Oh I grew up just outside Sheffield.” It was a delightful place to live… er, was it? She couldn’t quite remember now. Her mind seemed to wander off a bit, but then looked at the girls again as they asked a few more questions. “Oh, um.. well I suppose my father taught me the rules of the game, but I really learned when I came to Hogwarts and played…. No, just Quidditch,” she shook her head at the next question. She couldn’t be as good as she was if her focus was too divided. “My birthday is February 27th…. 2043.” SPOILER!!: Augustus questions Augustus shook his head at Kitty’s question. “Augustus Flume was a lifelong bachelor. Very dedicated to his work.” That didn’t mean he didn’t have any romantic pursuits, they were just few and far between and he just didn’t find the time to settle down. He looked next at the older girl posing a question about portraits in general. “Hmm, I suppose you could put it that way. Magical portraits live on for a long time, though they are more a shadow of a person rather than a replication.” Did that make sense? Augustus wasn’t completely sure it made sense to him as he did not study magical portraiture at any length. SPOILER!!: Violetta questions “Why yes, I am a pureblood,” she told the boy whose father was much too young to have attended school alongside her. “I was the only one in my family with such true and pure talent so of course I was allotted the best of educations.” It was fortunate for her though. She looked to the mannerly Charlotte next. “The one that I mentioned, Who Cast the Spell on Music? is of course my favorite. It was quite the accomplishment. I wrote the piece for all the instruments and charmed them all to play myself while I sang. As for other pieces I like to play.. “ Or at least what her human counterpart liked to play. She looked to one of the girls who asked that question. “I prefer the musical arrangements of the wizarding composer, Aldred Cantus.” The questions were starting to become tedious. When was this class over because she was tired of this and would rather do something else now. “Yes, the harp, not the harpsichord.” Of course she knew what it looked like, for Merlin’s sake! “Very good. And they are both unbowed stringed instruments.” Apparently the other young man came in to the group late as she had already answered this question much, much earlier. “I did not attend Hogwarts. As a matter of fact, I attended the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts.” A much better school in her opinion. “My artist’s name is Benjamin Coombs and I’ve hung in his studio several decades.” Time meant very little to portraits, or at least this one, and she couldn’t be bothered with the exact number of years. “I suppose the hardest thing is having a private life..” And answering incessant questions about her life. SPOILER!!: Lucian questions “Defense Against the Dark Arts was my favorite, something that came in handy when I was fighting in the Great Goblin Rebellion.” Did that answer several questions at once? He was always efficient. “And because of that battle, wand legislation had to be written and revised.” That was important whether or not these children saw it that way, which he doubted given the silly questions they’ve asked. SPOILER!!: Elliot questions He looked at the younger girl who asked about the regulations he created and knitted his eyebrows together. Hadn’t he already said? But he was kind and patient, and he simply smiled at her. “Just like your fellow classmate guessed, I helped to create the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. It was very necessary at the time.” And speaking of that certain classmate, Elliot had to think a moment about her question. “Perhaps I would teach History of Magic. I’ve always enjoyed trying to understand people throughout history and why they’ve made the decisions they did. Or maybe something with Charms..” My, oh my. The young Ravenclaw was so inquisitive, wasn’t he? Elliot could certainly appreciate that. “I’m.. not sure if I can answer all of your questions with accuracy. I’m not a portrait painter, and I don’t have a complete understanding of how it all works. But I’m like a faint version of Elliot Kegworth. I have some of his memories and many of his mannerisms, but I’m not truly him. I was created through magic.” He wasn’t sure that was a sufficient answer, but it was probably the best he could do. “I was painted before he died, but I am sure he’s long gone by now…” He was never personally told, and he never cared to ask. |

Goblin Rebellion? That sounded cool. Olly was sure he'd heard about that before, but he didn't remember too many details. Maybe a few, because something with such an exciting title was not something he could really forget. But he had to ask a few more question for the assignment. No, just one more yeah? "Did you go to Hogwarts?" Norah had asked earlier but Lucian had never actually answered that one, which Olly thought was kind of rude. |
Quote:
It went without saying that he could paint him anyway but Blaise was at that point where he really needed to avoid trouble in all forms so he would drop it. "You should care about your teeth though, on account of how many people base first impressions on appearances. Reckon every time someone was meant to remember you they'd go 'the guy with the bad teeth'--or what if the painter accidentally screwed your face up so that it was a blurred spiral?" An interesting idea in truth. "You don't seem very interested in our questions." And they hadn't exactly been told what to ask. "What do YOU want to talk about?" Notepad and quill poised and ready. He was all ears. |
Quote:
"Let's go, Hadley," he said firmly but with a smile. "Class is going to be over soon and I gave you an assignment to complete. I expect you to get working on it. You can choose a different portrait if you'd like." But sitting around while everyone else did the work was not tolerated in his class. Quote:
"Get up, Mr. Meriwether." Ansley glanced at his nametag to make sure of his name. And no, he was NOT calling him Mr. Solo. "This activity is not optional. You may not lay on your desk instead of participate in class." And he was already losing time as class would be coming to an end soon so he'd better get a move on. Still standing by Meriwether's desk, Ansley raised his voice a bit to get everyone's attention. "Listen up, real quick, everyone. Finish up with your questions please, I'm going to give you all a little bit of time to write your summaries. You can work with someone, or in a group, if you want to make sure you fill in any blanks about your portraits, then you can present your findings in your group." And he didn't care who presented or if they each did a portion, as long as they could tell the rest of the class about the person in the portrait. OOC - I'm going to end this class in about 24 hours. You can continue to ask the portraits questions if you want, hopefully they should answer... Then RP your character writing up a summary/short essay - IC it will be turned in, but it should be in one of your posts - and also talking about it to the class. Any questions, let me know! |
Question 5 for Elliot! Scarlett listened in earnest to what Elliot had to say. He was a very interesting guy, and what he said about portraits not really knowing EVERYTHING about the person they were representing - that made sense, and it was something she had never thought of before. The professor announced that they had to start wrapping up, which was perfect timing since she was on her last question here. "Ok, last question - what was your number one reason for wanting the Statute of Secrecy passed? What was the big reasoning behind your decision?" she asked. That was the PERFECT question. She was so good at this history thing! |
Violetta "Interesting..." He was getting down some good information, even if his hand writing was a little messy to tell. Quick notes were never his forte. Still, Violetta's response to his question was, puzzling... unusual. Did she only learn artsy stuff there? Or was it a proper education... like Hogwarts? Opting not to distress the portrait and lose more points, Zeke kept his mouth shut on that and instead added to his notes. Other peoples questions were good too. ... And then Mr SpoilSport happened. Again. HOW WERE THEY RUNNING OUT OF TIME?! ... Ugh. "Sorry, last two questions..." he mused, trying for a smile, "what would you say your biggest achievement was? and may I ask how you died?" Were portraits like ghosts? Death-proud??? He hoped so. |
Matt lifted his head when he heard his actual name being called, but didn't do much apart from that. He looked at the teacher, his arms still stretched out on the table, as the man spoke about the activity not being optional, buuuuut Matt just couldn't be bothered. "But I don't have any questions to ask, sir." He really didn't. Like, REALLY. "I'm not very curious." Matt added with a grin, hoping that would be convincing enough. "And it's Mr Solo." Just sayin'. |
Elliot Kegworth! Well. He had no idea what a Junior Undersecretary was. Jaemin frowned a bit as he watched Elliot answer other questions, and tried to think of another. Someone had asked something about his family. "Did you have brothers or sisters or anything?" He should know all that, right? All about the real Elliot's family? He knew none of them were on the Whosie Whatsit before him, so he had to know. |
Flume Quote:
Turning to face the portrait, so she could at least pretend to ask it questions, Haddie leaned into Rachel and whispered, "I blame you for this." At least class would be over soon and she could get away from Davie and his smug holier-than-thou attitude simply because he happened to have been born into a magical family and learned all this stuff growing up. This subject probably would have interested her if it wasn't now forever linked with Davie Truebridge exploding at her for not knowing who Harry Potter or Greg Weasley were. Her house everyone, where hating a person because they don't know something, legitimately happens... Maybe it wasn't too late to sneak out. She eyed Professor Finch as he did his rounds through the classroom, and then looked at the portrait of Augustus Flume. "Uh, hi. How are you?" |
Elliott question 5 (I think?) So he was such and important.person. Hmmm... That's why his portrait was here. "Okay then, Mr. Kegworth. What is the most important thing happened when you were in a Ministry?" Ava asked him again, and if she was right, this would be her last question then she's done in here." |
Quote:
"And as your name is Mr. Meriwether on my roster, that is what you will be called until I receive notice otherwise from a parent." He didn't buy into nicknames that made no sense to him, and he certainly did not need to be corrected when he was not wrong. |
Violetta Bullstrode Dot's eyes got big as Zeke asked the portrait how she died. Like... that was rough, wasn't it? What if it was sensitive? What if she felt bad about it? Dot watched the boy with big eyes before returning to the moment with a start. She was supposed to be asking questions. "You've had a very full life, full of fame and fortune, Madame Bullstrode. Did anyone ever write your biography? Maybe we have it in the library." She fidgeted in her seat, wondering if there was any way to take the sting out of Zeke's insensitive question. "When did you retire from your career on the stage? I bet there was a huge show." |
Artemesia Timms Text Cut: Artemesia Timms Ariadne was just about finished up with her questioning. There really wasn't much else she could think of to ask the portrait. Everything had headed in the direction of Quidditch, and she had about all she needed on that. She re-read her notes and tried to piece together what she was going to write about in her paragraph. Did they have to read it out loud to the class? ... Ariadne wasn't quite sure how she felt about that. She could speak to everybody in here...but that was SOCIALLY. Giving a speech, though? She didn't know... Ariadne laughed at the woman's comment to her question. "I'll try not to," she joked, following that comment with a wink. She went on talking about playing at Hogwarts, and it occurred to Ariadne that the woman hadn't told them what house she was in. That was important stuff right there! "Did you tell us what house you were in? I...uhh...didn't get that down." SORRRRRRY! She jotted down the woman's birthday, nodding as she did so. "Other than that question about your house, I think that's about all for now. Thank you, Miss Timms!" |
