Violetta and Rachel Quote:
Quote:
Yeah, I'm out. "Your skin is oily," she told the portrait dryly before walking away. Well, it was true. It was an oil painting, after all. She spotted Rachel chatting with another portrait and made her way over to her BFF, in a huff. With her back turned to the portrait, Haddie leaned into her best friend and whispered, "I hate this class." |
Violetta Bulstrode: First question SPOILER!!: Professor! See this she knew already. The portraits enjoyed talking to anyone that was willing to stop and listen. They probably got very lonely too. However his reply to her question had the fifth year sighing inwardly the small smile that had been on her face fading instantly. Extensive training under advanced magic. There went her hopes of creating one herself anytime soon. "So if I wanted to make one myself I wouldn't be able to...at least not anytime soon?" That was what he was saying right? Was there even just a tiny chance? Activity time was happening though. Pick a portrait and speak with it. This she could do. Pulling out a clean sheet of parchment and her quill Hady rose to her feet and instantly made her way towards the portrait of Violetta Bulstrode. No need in wasting anytime where there were things that needed to be done. "Hello, I'm Hady Lynch," she told the women quietly introducing herself. "Did you come to Hogwarts when you were younger?" As in school aged. Easy question for the win! |
Elliot Kegworth She had helped him find his way, yes. Jaemin nodded at the professor, scratching his cheek a bit. "She told me I was up too high for Charms and to go back down. She stared at me for a while though... her eyes were really big and weird." He had remembered to say thank you though, which was good right? She wouldn't know he'd thought she was creepy, because he'd said thank you! ...oh they had to talk to the pictures. He should have known this was coming. The small boy wrinkled his nose and looked from Trixie to... he tilted his head to look at the other nametag. Elliot Choi. This was the boy from Astronomy class, the tall one who had helped him steal! Yes, good. Now he knew a name. Still scratching at his cheek, a bit anxious really, the small boy departed his table to go up to the portraits stationed at the front. They all reminded him of the ones that frightened him when he was little. Except the younger one on the end. So he approached that one. The professor had said its name was Elliot, right? Jaemin made quite sure that there was enough distance between him and the portrait, and cleared his throat. "Um... why are you a portrait if you're so young?" he asked, tentative yet curious. Portraits were usually old people or very dressed up young people. Or creepy doll girls. |
catch up to Prof|| Dot + Kat || Portrait: Augustus Flume Tenacius nodded his head at the Professor's response. Awww maaaan, he was really hoping he could climb into the portraits, it yeah sure it would be a great shortcut to places but more so it would be like exploring another world. But he did get a kick out of looking for secret passages-- he's found a few already, much to his delight. But now they get to talk to GUESTS. Guest portraits of the lesson. He looked at Prefect Dot and Fangirl Kat and pointed at the elderly figure "I wanna talk to that guy!" he beamed. He skidded towards the portrait, stopping just in time before he knocked it off its stand. "Hi!" he greeted the elderly man cheerfully "Dude you have awesome hair! How did you get to keep that all the way to your age? I'm kinda worried that all my curls will fall off even before I graduate Hogwarts."Its not vanity, its a legit serious issue of the male species. |
Artemesia Timms She knew it. They were going to get to talk to the portraits. Janelle listened as the professor outlined what they would be doing and introduced the portrait occupants. She would have to choose one of the subjects to interview. After giving it some thought, Janelle decided on Artemesia Timms. Why? She wasn't exactly sure, but Ms. Timms just seemed like the right one to pick. Janelle decided that she would work by herself on this one. As she walked over to the portrait, she thought about what she wanted her first question to be. What Janelle really wanted to ask was, "What's your claim to fame?" "Why do you have a portrait at Hogwarts?" She knew that that was absolutely not the best way to start. Being rude was not a good ice breaker. When Janelle stood in front of the portrait, she introduced herself. "Hello Ms. Timms. My name is Janelle. I'm a fourth year here at Hogwarts. I'd like to ask you a few questions. I hope you don't mind." "Be polite", she thought to herself. "I am so happy to be able to talk to you. I have so much to learn about the History of Magic. What would you say is the thing that you are most known for?" Did that sound like a better way to ask what she wanted to know? |
Elliot Kegworth Quote:
So he was a Hogwarts alumna, well that's obvious. If not, why on earth he has his portrait here. "Were you that famous when you were in school, sir?" The young lioness asked curiously. "Like uh.... Were you a prefect or top student or anything else?" Because Ava was curious why on earth his portrait was left in this school. That means that he was someone when he came here. "Oh, maybe you were a school hero? Or...." She tried to guess. |
Still Group Chat? Still this group was interesting. We had a first year that sounded like her name was Burn. Well that is what Dante heard. Then Ilia and Zeke. Which was interesting. Dante listened and was not surprised that most of the answers where about the Fat Lady. Considering how many Gryffindors were here. Dante listened. So they had to interview a potrait. Well Dante liked the name Violetta Bulstrode best. He wanted to ask if her parents hated her when they named her. "How about we all ask one portrait questions. So that would be four questions plus just one more from any of us. I like the name Violetta Bulstrode the best so that is my vote." Dante said shrugging. That was his say. If they decided on something different. He would go along. He did not care. |
Victoria Timms Some of the stories proved to be VERY interesting, and Katherine took a mental note to speak to more of the portraits. She hadn't had any chance to previously; they had no portraits at home and they were the only magical family in town. She just had to find an interesting portrait. Anyway, time to talk. She eyed the portraits for a moment. No way she was going to talk to that vain woman, she wouldn't compliment an unworthy person and she had to ask a few questions to her... one of the man wasn't even there... the other man looked too eccentiric... Artemesia Timms, it was. She approached the little crowd that was already there, and listened to their questions first. When it was her turn, she said "Hello Ms Timms, I'm Katherine Moss, first year Ravenclaw." A small smile. "What is the most important event in your life, if it's not too personal?" |
Lucian, Norah (and Henric) Quote:
"Oops, sorry." Olly backed up a reasonably amount. He was glad that the subjects could not leave their portraits or Olly surely would have gotten jabbed in the nose. But now that the man was here, they could ask him questions. Norah's was a good one, Olly wanted the answer to that too. But he needed to ask some of his own as well. "How long ago were you born?" |
Elliot Kegworth The slytherin was pleased the Professor knew which portrait he was talking about. He heard the little tidbits Professor Finch was saying. Oh right he remembered telling him he was the headmaster. That was pretty legit. Now moving onto the next set of the lesson. So apparently the whole class was going to be asking the portraits questions? Sounds easy enough. He began to observe from his chair and heard the other questions students asked. He heard the basic ones. He had one no one asked yet... He went up to the portrait of Elliot Kegworth because he seemed younger and he could relate more to the students. He cleared his throat and began to ask his question, "Hello Elliot, I am Colt Winchester. I am in the Slytherin house in Hogwarts and I am wondering what was your favorite subject here to learn while in Hogwarts?" Seemed like a valid question right? Let's see what he had to say. |
Elliot Kegworth Well, they had already lost Rachel, she was up and moving towards a portrait that quite frankly didn't seem all the interesting to Azura, so she turned to smile at Austin and "Hello, I'm Azura Kennedy, I hope you don't mind if I ask you a few questions?" She asked the man a bit shyly as her purple eyes looked up at his picture.. "So, how come you are so young, and yet.. in a portrait?" She asked him curiously. |
Post 1 - Partner? Sure enough, when Professor Finch moved them on, the portraits were revealed with the removal of the sheets. The action soon showing two women, a man and...an empty frame that were moved to different parts of the room. The three currently present as well as the missing man were introduced and Olivia added them to her notes along with everything else she had deemed important. And more information would be following as they went along with the activity. "Do you want to work together?" the young Ravenclaw asked Esme her tablemate. She was okay with working by herself if the older girl didn't want to, but she figured she would ask first just in case. And then they or she herself could pick just which portrait they would be asking some questions to. What would she want to know? |
Augustus Flume Kitty looked at all four portraits and very quickly picked the cool old man with the hair. She hoped her partner Rula didn't mind. "Hey Augustus! I love your hair." Kitty smiled at the eccentric old lady. "My name is Kitty Valentine , I'm a third year Ravenclaw student. I'm Gothic." She showed the portrait her black nails to emphasize the point. "Do you know the backstory of the Tapestry in the fourth floor corridor?" Kitty really wanted to know the full backstory, and this seemed like a perfect chance to find out just that. "A few days ago a few newspaper sheets fell out of a book I was reading, and they were talking about dark forces coming from a corridor behind the Tapestry. They didn't say who was behind it though. I was just curious but I'm shy to ask the professor's." She didn't feel shy at all talking to portraits. |
Violetta Bulstrode Quote:
Esme smiled, pleased and took note of what he told her. Of course her sister knew the name of the knight. Juno was smarter and more observant - or at least that was how she felt sometimes. She made a note of the name and wondered what sort of quests they would get up to if they took him up on the offer. That would have to wait for another day, however, as Professor Handsome had an activity for them! "Sure thing," she told Olivia with a smile when she asked if she wanted to work together. That sounded good to Esme because she was trying to learn how to work as a team and not be so independent. Hopefully this would go well; they would see in a moment or so... Getting up from her seat, she contemplated which portrait to talk to. Some seemed to be more popular than others and it was better to visit one that wasn't crowded around. "How about Violetta Bulstrode?" she suggested before making her way over to the portrait. "Hello," she said politely. "What's it like to be a portrait?" Esme was rather curious and had wanted to ask that question for a while. |
Post 2 - Violetta Bulstrode - Question 1 SPOILER!!: Esme Great...one part done. She had a partner to work with, a partner who was getting up from her seat, Olivia following suit out of her own. "Sure," the eagle said with a nod as one of the portraits was suggested to her. The woman's portrait in question seemed to be freer than some of the others so they were playing fair. And wasn't the name Bulstrode one present in a bit of famous history if she remembered correctly? Maybe there was something quite interesting to learn. Olivia waited with her partner for their turn. "Hello..." she greeted the portrait, echoing Esme feeling it was polite. Even if the middle aged painted woman didn't seem all polite. She listened to the question being raised as she thought of her own to give. There was so many directions that it could go. The Ravenclaw had heard Hady's earlier question...if it was true, she'd guess Slytherin for the woman. "Could you tell us about your years at school?" |
Elliot Kegworth - Question #1 Woah! The day had started well, and Garreth was already loving History of Magic, but this went beyond his expectations! They weren't going to just be reading textbooks and writing papers, were they? Not only did the school provide ample opportunity to converse with all manner of portraits, but this time, it was actually the assignment! Oh joy! Goodness, and not only that, but they could choose between several different ones? Could this class get any better? The boy scanned the different choices available to him, and while the elderly gentleman looked like he'd have many interesting stories to tell, he felt drawn to the younger man's portrait. He tentatively made his way towards the painted man and waited for a quiet moment to ask a question. "Hi, Elliot. What's it like being a portrait?" it was simply the first question that come to mind, even if it could be considered insensitive. |
Ansley listened to the few students who had elaborated more on their portrait stories after he had asked further about them. It was interesting how they all had different experiences, but not too surprising. Just like people, they all had different personalities and it was probably something they'd find out today if they hadn't known already. Perhaps he should have warned about some of the specific personalities, but it was more fun watching his students figure that out for themselves. Was Hadleigh discouraged with his answer? Ansley gave her a reassuring smile and shook his head. "I certainly didn't say you wouldn't be able to, but it does take some training and a lot of practice. Are you up for the challenge? Maybe you'd like to learn." And he would actually be happy to have a little apprentice if she were interested. He slowly wandered about the room, observing how the students interacted with the portraits. Whoops. Violetta was set off already. He was half-tempted not to bring her today, but being on loan from one of his painting friends, he felt she could be a good addition. "Violetta is a tough nut to crack," he told Hadley with a sympathetic smile, though he was always amused with her attitude. "She just needs her ego catered to." The Ravenclaw could try that or she could talk to a different portrait, didn't matter to him. He happened to hear a couple of students (Mel and Dante) at the same table commenting on how to do even less work. Yeah, no. "Everyone does the same amount of work, in a group or not. The activity is five questions per person, not per group." Laziness certainly wasn't the way to get on this professor's good side and all it really did was keep them in his mind to keep an eye on them. But that reminded him that it was probably a good time to let them know what their actual assignment was so that they all chose their questions wisely. "Listen up real quick, class," he called out, wanting all of their attention for a moment. "Keep up with the interviewing of the portraits, you're all doing a great job.." At least those that have started anyway. "Remember to ask at least five question for the portrait of your choice. Once you feel like you know a little bit about that person's life and contribution to history, I want you to write a paragraph or two for me to grade, but you will also present this to the class." He did not expect them to interview each of the portraits, so this would be one way for the rest of the students to learn about the others. And it would help assess how well they participated along with what they learned from one portrait or another. "If you are working in a group, only one of you need to present, but you all will need to hand in your own work, in your own words." None of that all handing in the exact same essay. "And even if you are not currently working in a group, you might want to at least compare notes when finished to help fill in any blanks." But that was up to them. OOC - Keep working everyone, you are all doing great! I'm not trying to rush anyone, you still have plenty of time to ask the portraits questions! I just wanted to let you know what you will be doing once questions have been asked just in case that guided how your character asked them. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask via VM/PM/Twitter/Skype. |
Artemesia Timms Quote:
"YOU DO!?" Ariadne asked, bouncing in place out of pure excitement. "I'm a huge fan! My sister plays professional Quidditch for the Harpies." While Ariadne was BURSTING with excitement at this reply, it still didn't give her enough information. She overheard the professor telling them they had to write a whole paragraph about what they learned, and Ariadne didn't have a whole paragraph's worth of stuff right now. "Miss Timms, I need to write a whole paragraph about the time you were born and around the time you lived. Can you tell me anything about Quidditch during that time?" she asked. She felt just like one of those reporters from The Daily Prophet! She was secretly pretending that she had on eyeglasses and was accompanied with a floating notepad and a quill that would write down what everybody was saying. "Also, what did you and your friends do for fun when you were bored?" |
Post 1 - Elliot Kegworth So they had to interview portraits? That was kind of cool! Scarlett held back a few moments as her classmates spread out before deciding which one she wanted to interview. She decided to go with the last one the professor had mentioned - he was younger and probably more relatable because of that. She waited until it was her turn to start the interview and approached him with a smile. "Hey there! So...I'm Scarlett. Um...what house are you in?" she asked. WOW. Lame much, Reynolds?! |
Text Cut: Brooklyn + catch up They were supposed to ask questions to the portraits and that didn't excite Matt at all. He had been right, History of Magic was going to be sloow and boring. Matt didn't relate to any of the portraits and the girl sitting with him didn't help either. He gave her a bored look and partially turned his attention back to the portraits as his classmates asked them questions. Partially, because his mind was starting to go elsewhere. Like the outside. Hogwarts grounds! Merlin, how he wished he could be outside right now. Didn't matter what he'd be doing; all that mattered was that he'd be outside and doing something that wasn't studying history. Or studying anything at all. Yeah, that would be the BEST! What time was it now? Were they done yet? |
Group chat :) SPOILER!!: Zeke :D Ilia was such a snakette, a dragon with the appearance of a porcelain doll. Yes, she heard the professor take points from lion breath. It was no large amount, nothing that would influence her house winning the cup or anything....heck she had lost that many trying to help with the snake table at the feast. Poor Dante, seriously.....Merlin that was awful. Point being though, it wasn't the amount of points lost that added sunshine to her disposition. No, it was really just a person she didn't much like right now getting reprimanded for his behavior. A sense of smugness at what she felt to be due justice really. She wasn't surprised that he ignored her comment, but she was certain that he'd heard her. That was enough. As for his suggestion though. "I'm certain that is the first intelligent sentence that I have heard out of your mouth lion boy. I'm for it as well, it only makes sense really." She didn't like him one little bit right now, but, his 'help' should make this whole thing easier. SPOILER!!: Pyro girl xD She seemed to like the idea of an incendiary moniker. "Burn it is then. Until you tire of it at least." She laughed a little when she said it. Honestly it was almost....sort of...cute? She seemed like she would be a bubbly little spit fire so why not? That sort of personality appealed to the blonde in general. Hmm, she liked her first name AND knew what it was. Interesting. She probably liked ancient runes or something along those lines. Whatever she liked, and yet, the girl seemed predisposed to her first name. It was either way really, they were both her name. "Well, they are both my name, just different parts. My first name Freyja is indeed for the goddess, Ilia is my middle name. Either that you prefer is fine really, even some of my family uses them interchangeably." She smiled warmly at the younger girl to confirm that she really meant her words. She was for it too, good. That was three people. The portrait that was out for a waltz? "I would think if he were out, it would make it harder for us, not simpler." They were going to have to ask questions regardless. 5....well....there it was. SPOILER!!: Dante :) Dante seemed to have an idea, but then the professor clarified. Well, it was a nice try sir. She couldn't blame him for the thought. "Well, with greater insight into our assignment, twenty questions will be easier to derive a good essay than five. I am still for a group discussion and I am fine with speaking to Lady Bulstrode. She is in her portrait so, that may at least make it easier. But, whatever the greatest amount of votes. Any of them will work honestly." She didn't care who, lets just get this done guys. "Who do we chose, and who shall start?" Did they have an idea and accord? She would help the process however she could. |
Lucian Warrington As soon as the voice rang out from the portrait, Norah took a stumbling step backwards, landing on Henric's foot. "Sorry sorry sorry!" She considered stooping down to give his foot a little apologetic pat, but then she'd be missing valuable time with this portrait guy who really didn't seem to be in a very nice mood. And that sounded counterproductive, yeah? Henric's foot would just have to BELIEVE that she felt bad, 'cause she did. Poor thing. It was time's like this that she was thankful for being so small, and that barely ever happened. She listened and nodded in response to Olly's question, then added another one of her own. Y'know. One just wasn't enough. "Did they have chocolate frogs when you were alive?" It was important, okay? |
Artemesia Timms - Question 2 Quote:
The 21st century was LONG. It was the 80s now. "What are limitations you have as a portrait? Like, can you go into any portrait you want to if it's in close proximity?" |

"Your sister isn't that dreadful Cherrine McFancie, is she? She's something of a rival." Artemesia gave Ariadne a knowing look. It was almost as if the beater had put a target on her. It was awful. What were they talking about again? Oh right, her most important event. "Why that would be the day that the Caerphilly Catapults recruited me as their starting seeker." She beamed at all her little fans. Where they her to interview her for a magazine? But then she let out a little gasp. "I'm not dead!" Her in-person counterpart was quite a bit older, not that that thought was even in her head at the moment. Sometimes she forgot she was a portrait and not a person. Until questions like the next one. "Oh, I've never been in another portrait.. I hadn't had the opportunity until Ansley brought me here." And she had felt a little shy about it. Quote:

"Augustus Flume died of old age, I'm afraid," he said sadly. It was the circle of life, but sad all the same. "And he was much older than I appear now." He smiled broadly at the curly-haired lad. "Ah, the secret is potions! Potions are good for many, many things!" Was the boy adept at potions? Augustus sized him up before looking at the next young lady. Hmm.. Gothic? Did that mean her people came from East Germany? He was unfamiliar with the more current term. "I'm afraid, young miss, that I do not.. I've never spent much time on the Fourth Floor that I remember.." Dark forces sounded like nothing good, but it probably wouldn't affect him much. He was just a painting after all. Quote:

"I certainly did not," she replied rather snootily when asked if she attended Hogwarts. As if she would enroll in such a drafty castle. "As a matter of fact, I attended the prestigious Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts. Not for the dramatics, though," she added as an afterthought. But given her What was it like being a portrait? Violetta gave the girl a look. "It certainly does not compare with being on the stage in front of adoring fans." Somehow even being gawked at as a portrait was just not the same. Quote:

Young..? They thought he was young? Well, that was something as a surprise as he wasn't feeling all that young, and didn't think that many children regarded 28 as young either, but that was okay! He could take that as a compliment, unless they meant it in an inexperienced way which he certainly was not! "Well, you can be any age to have your portrait painted. I suppose that depends on a wide variety of things..." He wasn't sure what they all were, but e knew there were portraits of all ages at Hogwarts. "I.. well.. being a portrait has it's ups and downs, I suppose. It certainly isn't as mind-stimulating as things were for myself as a person." Or at least he thought. He wasn't that person exactly. "But it's always nice to have someone to talk to if they will listen." Oh and questions about when he was a student! Boy, that was a long time ago. "I was a Ravenclaw when I was a student here. And I suppose my favorite subject was History of Magic. Or Charms... yes, I always liked Charms too. Can't say that I was a student leader in that way, but I studied very hard when I was in school and learned so much. You all should study hard and do your very best." It was his advice on being successful. |
Question 3- Augustus Flume and the gang! Rachel had only just asked her second question when she heard Haddie whispering to her. She turned to look at her friend, disappointment written on her face. "Why, Haddie? I think it's a fun class.'' She found it sad that Haddie found it this way especially when it was taught by Professor Handsome. "You can stay with me and talk with Augustus.'' Saying that, she linked her arm through the other girl's so that they were bounded by the elbows. Hoping that Haddie would stay, she smiled at Kitty and the other boy (Tenacius) who had joined them. The Eagle giggled. They all seemed to be rather taken with Augustus's hair. But it was bittersweet that the portrait's human counterpart died of old age. "What did he do for a living? You human counterpart, I mean.'' |
